Since the Kopps founded Cada in Munich in 1986, they have always anticipated and embraced trends. In the 1980s and 1990s their oversized rings and bracelets refected the spirit of the era, while its popular Love collection mirrors the zeitgeist of today. This becomes even more impressive when you consider the fact that the Kopps have always followed their own path. ‘We aren’t looking so much at the industry,’ they explain. ‘We do our own thing and follow our creative intuition, staying true to our style.’ Their collection spans everything from

nnette and Herbert Kopp have been Munich’s leading jewellery power couple for almost 30 years. They have become known for their uncanny ability to rejuvenate and refne classic shapes to suit a modern audience, an approach that has attracted a loyal yet diverse clientele of creative types, fashion industry professionals and celebrities such as Princess Caroline of Monaco and Patti Smith. Cada, the name of their label, is an acronym that stands for creativity, arts, design and anarchy – characteristics that refect both the couple and their standout designs.

Today, he takes care of the creative aspects of the company, while Annette is the businesswoman. It’s a partnership that, with its clearly defned roles, has stood the test of time. ‘It’s great,’ Annette says of working together. ‘We can talk about jewellery whenever we want, and we like that. Each piece is created by hand in the company’s own workshop, and inspiration comes from an array of diferent sources: ‘on the street, in fashion, at the cinema, in art’, they explain. Munich is also an endless source of ideas. ‘We love to walk around. The city is beautiful and always very stimulating,’ they enthuse. ‘We get a lot of inspiration on the street; there are many stylish people from whom we can learn.

Herbert’s initial interest in art has proven to be a life-long passion and his artistic fair can be seen throughout Cada’s collections, from the delicately balanced spots of colour seen in the amethyst Capri ring to the intricate mosaic-style design of the Magic Colour pendants. The Kopps’ extensive art collection is internationally renowned, numbering more than 600 pieces. Understandably, the collection also infuences their work, keeping them in ‘permanent trouble’, according to the couple. It is this deeply held passion for art and creativity that lies at the heart of Cada, and helps to set the label apart from other fne jewellery brands. Although the collection ofers a number of quirky, whimsical designs, shaped after seahorses and famingos, every piece is crafted in gold, in a range of colours, and accented with high-quality diamonds and coloured gemstones. Quality is clearly extremely important, and every design is painstakingly developed.

The couple’s deeply held passion for art and creativity lies at the heart of Cada, and helps set it apart ‘First we do a lot of drawing and sketching to bring the idea to life, followed by models made of wax or metal, and then we decide if it fts into our collection,’ Herbert explains. The Kopps design primarily for themselves, but they also enjoy a close relationship with their clients and are happy to reward them for their loyalty. ‘[Our clients] are open minded, modern and very stylish,’ they enthuse. In fact, it is their clients, and seeing their work being worn by others, that has helped to maintain their enthusiasm for the business for the past 29 years. ‘Seeing our jewellery being worn and loved is always a very fulflling and proud moment.’
Their passion and commitment has certainly paid of; the brand now enjoys international success and is stocked in some of the world’s fnest boutiques, including Jades in Düsseldorf, Colette in Paris and London’s Dover Street Market. With its array of striking sights and tempting shops, Schwabing is one of Munich’s most fascinating areas. Katie Muxworthy goes exploring
SPIRIT
Schwabing is Munich’s avant-garde district and a magnet for locals and visitors alike thanks to its diverse range of drinking establishments, gourmet eateries and intriguing boutiques. The
neighbourhood came to fame in the late 19th century when it was home to an impressive group of poets, painters and writers, including Rainer Maria Rilke and Heinrich Mann.
Having gained a reputation as Munich’s artistic quarter, Schwabing remains an important creative and social hub today. Located in the northern part of the city, Schwabing is a lively shopping destination by day and is packed full of boutiques, jewellery stores and art galleries. At night the area is transformed into an energetic entertainment venue and is home to many contemporary bars and restaurants. Bordered by the Olympic park to the west and the stunning Englischer Garten – one of the world’s largest public parks – to the east, and with two of the city’s universities nearby, it is constantly buzzing with vitality. Take in the sense of energy with a stroll down Leopoldstrasse. This long boulevard is lined with fashionable stores, restaurants and bars and runs all the way from spectacular, triple-arched Siegestor, or Victory Gate, through Münchner Freiheit square to handsome Odeonsplatz. Around the corner on Bahnhofplatz you will fnd Karstadt, one of Germany’s most popular department stores, which carries an array of womenswear from

Once known as Munich’s artistic quarter, Schwabing remains a creative and social hub today brands including Vera Mont and Adidas Originals, menswear from Levi’s and Daniel Hechter, and a selection of seasonal homeware. On the way, visit the stores of well-known labels such as Benetton, Esprit and Zara. Make time, too, to explore the side streets of Leopoldstrasse, which contain some of the city’s most memorable small shops. Wandering along Kaiserstrasse, Hohenzollernstrasse and Franz-Joseph-Strasse, you’ll fnd that striking art nouveau buildings have been transformed into clothing boutiques, jewellery shops, bookshops and antiques stores. Stop by independent concept store Falkenberg, on the same street, and you’ll be entranced by the clever curation of interesting home accessories, fragrances, cofee-table books, artisanal tea and chocolates. This is the perfect place to pick up an unusual souvenir from your trip. If you are hungry, you will fnd yourself spoilt for choice in Schwabing. Stop for a snack at the tempting daily food market on Elisabethplatz. With its array of locally sourced fresh breads, meats and cheeses, it ofers an epicurean favour of the borough. But if you’re more in the market for a sit-down meal head to Alter Simpl pub on Türkenstrasse, which is much applauded for its Bavarian menu. Once a famous meeting place for writers and artists, it is today hung with their pictures. That means you can soak up some of Schwabing’s bohemian atmosphere while tucking into classic dishes.

on Feilitzschstrasse, which specialises in tapasstyle smaller plates. End your tour of Schwabing in the Englischer Garten. Encompassing lakes, woods, gently rolling terrain and fower-dusted meadows, the park is gloriously green and generously big: it spans 350 hectares and so is larger than London’s Hyde Park. It was created in the 18th century ostensibly in the style of an English country park, hence the name. Eye-catching additions over the ensuing years include a Japanese teahouse, a Greek temple, and a pagoda. In winter, the Englischer Garten is just as much of a must-visit as in summer. Its pagoda, or Chinese Tower, is the site of a Christmas market ofering craft items and festive delicacies which are ideal as gifts for friends and family. For an additional touch of Christmas magic, carriage rides through the park are also available. The painters, artists and poets who once lived in Schwabing may be long gone, but the creative and dynamic atmosphere of their time lives on. With its ample shopping opportunities, traditional pubs, fne dining restaurants and charming cafés, it is still the beating heart of creative Munich

RAISING THE BAR Munich may be best known for its beer, but the city also has a thriving cocktail scene, as Alice Howd explains
Munich has long been known for its locally brewed beer. Several of the city’s celebrated breweries can trace their history back as far as the 14th century, and their products are an integral part of the famous Oktoberfest. Visitors to the Bavarian capital should certainly try a foaming pint of Helles golden lager, the most popular local brew, which is pale in colour and has a pleasingly malty, mild taste. However, the city also entertains a thriving cocktail-bar scene, serving up exotic favours and expertly made classics to appreciative patrons. With everything from rooftop hotspots with breathtaking views to hidden garden spaces and speakeasy-infuenced haunts, travellers in Munich will have some difcult decisions to make at cocktail hour. These contemporary bars come complete with in-house mixologists who are committed to using only the fnest ingredients in their quest to create fresh, interesting new combinations and twists on the well-known classics. A hit with Munich’s locals and visitors alike, the city’s hippest bars are blended, shaken and stirred to perfection. globalblue.com

GOLDENE BAR Goldene Bar was named Bar of the Year at the Mixology Bar Awards in 2013, thanks to its imaginative list of cocktails with creative names such as Gintelligence, Bee’s Knees and Smooth Criminal. The retro-with-a-twist interior is equally seductive, with the whole thing bathed in an appropriately golden light courtesy of a vast 1920s chandelier. On the walls, original 1930s murals painted on gold-leaf show everything from scenes of the grape harvest overseen by Bacchus to old-fashioned maps of Europe and the Caribbean, illustrating the origins of many of the wines and spirits on display. Schumann’s Bar, with its minimalist brushedsteel-and-wood interior, is a refreshing alternative to Munich’s more classic venues. The drinks list concentrates on exquisite favour combinations and classics with a twist, all selected by Schumann himself, who can often be found behind the bar discussing the city’s cocktail culture with his customers. RENÉ LEZARD When Thomas Schaefer founded the René Lezard label in 1978, he did so with the idea of creating a modern, design-led premium brand for men and women that used only the highest quality materials. This philosophy remains at the core of the latest autumn/ winter collection. In muted colours and with a relaxed silhouette, the pieces are elegant without being trend-driven. Warm fabrics such as cashmere and wool are used throughout the collection, giving the clothes an invitingly tactile look. Those seeking dressier items won’t be disappointed, as there are plenty of silk blouses, along with statement coats in foral jacquard. STRENESSE Inspired by the spirit of Paris, the latest womenswear collection from Strenesse adds a German touch to classic French style. Androgynous silhouettes are given a feminine edge with soft textures, bold colours and prints, as seen in the supercosy coats which are available in a wide range of colours and prints, from classic black and navy to glamorous leopard print. Boxy suits have been given a modern makeover with wide fared trousers which can be paired with masculine loafers. Simple yet standout accessories complete the collection so, with everything you need to get you through the colder months, Strenesse could be your one-stop shop for a capsule winter wardrobe. The brand was founded by the Strehle family in Nördlingen in 1949, and is now a globally recognised label producing desirable menswear as well as womenswear. ACAPULCO DESIGN Munich-based Acapulco Design is known for its eye-catching Acapulco chairs. The design is based on that of the classic 1950s Mexican chair, which was named after the famous Pacifc-coast resort, then a favourite with Hollywood stars. The updated version maintains the same painstaking handwork and quality, but with a few tweaks, including using materials such as leather and copper, for a fresh appeal. Acapulco Design’s version of the chair is also bigger than the original, and consequently even more comfortable. 64: High Tech, High Style

Многочисленные возможности для шоппинга, традиционные пабы, изысканные рестораны и очаровательные кафе, – все здесь говорит о том, что квартал попрежнему остается самым прогрессивным центром Мюнхена. karstadt.de, emanuelberg-muenchen.de, falkenberg-muenchen.com, eggerlokale.de, tantris.de, occamdeli.com 110: When You Shop The World, Shop Tax Free

“首先我们会画许多草稿,将灵感落于 globalblue.com
cada-schmuck.de
