Since the time of Napoleon the brand has created outstanding pieces of jewellery for the upper echelons of Parisian society, the revolutionary leader’s wife Joséphine included. However, the brand has never rested on its laurels and for 2018 has brought out four new colours in its ever-popular Hortensia collection. FASHION ON FILM

IN BRIEF You can now discover Diptyque’s scented candles on rue Saint-Honoré, where the brand recently opened a new store. Diptyque is also known for its perfumes and deliciously fragranced beauty products

Taking inspiration from cinema, Opening Ceremony co-founders and Kenzo creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon focus on film’s strongest male and female leads for Kenzo’s autumn/winter 2018/19 collection. For menswear, the duo merges the old and the new by bringing together heritage fabrics and playful streetwear silhouettes. Waxed cotton trenches and traditional duffel coats are worn in Kenzo’s characteristic fashion-forward style, while sportswear elements are introduced with the use of technical nylon fabrics. In the accessories range, expect to find crossbody pouches and an array of mini flasks, among other practical additions. Contemporary, full of character and bursting with colour, this collection is not for the faint-hearted. rre Kenzo, 27 boulevard de la Madeleine, 75008 Paris, +33 (0)1 4261 0414, kenzo.com

STAND TALL For autumn/winter 2018/19, Giuseppe Zanotti takes his shoe designs to new heights with the G-Heel capsule collection. Already popular among celebrities such as Rita Ora, Jennifer Lopez and Heidi Klum, the G-Heel draws on the brand’s signature logo, with a focus on the G that appears as a flash of lightning. PERFECT TIMING Bulgari introduced a sandblasted titanium version of the Octo Finissimo automatic in 2017; this year it has gone a step further with the addition of two new sandblasted versions in rose gold (pictured, price on request) or rhodium-plated steel. Thanks to this surface treatment, the sandblasted Octo Finissimo Automatic has a matte finish that catches the light in a unique way: the result is a strikingly contemporary look. Equipped with a supple metal bracelet, the thinnest mechanical self-winding movement in the world and a 60-hour power reserve, these two new additions to Bulgari’s impressive timepiece portfolio are testimony to the brand’s expertise in haute horlogerie, its innovative approach and its mastery of materials. grc Bulgari, 25 place Vendôme, 75001 Paris, +33 (0)1 5535 0050, bulgari.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 45

DELVAUX DIVA To mark the 60 years since Delvaux’s classic Brilliant bag was first introduced, the brand has unveiled the Diva. Originally designed for the 1958 World’s Fair, the Brilliant is defined by a sleek look that has inspired special editions each decade since. For its 60th anniversary, it is reincarnated as the Diva Brilliant, which evokes the glamour and style of the golden age of Hollywood. Crafted at the maison’s ateliers in Brussels, the Diva is made from a new, shining leather in red or black, colours synonymous with sophistication, as well as a limited-edition black alligator version finished with a hand-embossed crown emblem, Delvaux’s signature. grc Delvaux, Palais Royal, 151-154 Galerie de Valois, 75001 Paris, +33 (0)9 6719 9328, delvaux.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 42

A NEW LEAF French jewellery designer Aurélie Bidermann has always taken inspiration from her travels. The distinctive leaves of the ginkgo tree, a plant native to China, serve as the starting point for some of this season’s eye-catching designs. Bidermann’s Gold Ginkgo earrings are made from real gingko leaves that are dipped in gold, meaning each one is unique. The earrings are available in a delicate gold option or lacquered in more vibrant shades such as the pictured design, where the genuine ginkgo leaves are dipped in 18-carat yellow gold and lacquered indigo (€900 for a pair). Lace, feathers and flowers are some of the other motifs seen across rings, necklaces and earrings this season. grc Aurélie Bidermann, 14 rue Royale, 75008 Paris, +33 (0)1 4260 5401, aureliebidermann.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 44

Boucheron celebrates its 160th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, the brand has released special anniversary collections. The Serpent Bohème collection of rings, bracelets, pendants and more has been updated with new colours that now include pieces set with malachite and rhodolite garnets. The brand has also unveiled celebratory editions of the Reflet watch, which was famously inspired by the Vendôme column: the new limited-edition timepieces are available in eight colours. Keep an eye out for the reopening of Boucheron’s stunning flagship on place Vendôme, which has been undergoing major restoration work that should be completed by the end of 2018. rre Boucheron, 32 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 75008 Paris, +33 (0)1 4451 9520, boucheron.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 42

These instantly desirable high-concept, high-fashion pieces are wearable and effortless intertwine with the inspirations of his highly contemporary eye. The coming together of motifs and references from different eras is a common theme in Ghesquière’s work. This season he brings together elements of traditional ladylike dressing – skirt suits, nipped-in waists and even formal gloves – with elements inspired by outer space – or at least Hollywood’s concept of it. Wool pencil skirts featuring gorgeous metallic embellishments or gold chain belts were paired with structured, strongshouldered blouses that look out of place in Above (both): Louis Vuitton autumn/winter 2018/19

rench women are known for their classic, elegant chic, and the genius of the nation’s designers lies in their ability to balance this concept with highly modern and creative concepts. For autumn/ winter 2018/19, the leading collections at Paris Fashion Week experimented with textures and layering, proportion and silhouettes, as well as references to past, present and future, all while maintaining a sense of effortless wearability. This season, French superbrand Louis Vuitton staged its catwalk presentation in the Cour Lefuel of the world-famous Louvre museum. The courtyard, originally created for Napoleon III in the 1850s, became the stage for one of the brand’s most forwardthinking collections to date. In many ways, this juxtaposition of old and new is the very essence of Louis Vuitton. Under creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, the rich heritage and design signatures of this 164-year-old maison are preserved, made modern as they

a sci-fi film. Handbags were embellished with prints of circuit boards, and models clutched them with hands wearing above-the-elbow gloves in supple black leather. The other hand, glove-free, created a striking contrast. Skirt suits featured chains and beading in gold and silver at the edges, encapsulating a deliberately undone effect – a difficult balance that French women are known for perfecting. Relaxed tailoring was finished with wide, corseted belts. Strappy dresses were worn over metallic knits. Fluid dresses featured structured sections across the shoulders that invoked the uniforms of spaceships – some emblazoned with LV logos that made the reference undeniable. This is a collection that mixes and layers concepts seamlessly, bringing past and present together to create something that seems simply and effortlessly current. Chloé is another label whose autumn/ winter collection draws on the past. In her second collection for the brand, Natacha Above (both): Chloé autumn/winter 2018/19

Ramsay-Levi looks to the 1970s, and references to the fashions of that decade can be found throughout – in the warm autumnal colour palette, the vivid prints, the wide collars and high-waisted flares. But Chloé is not about the past, it’s about the present: the label has long been associated with chic and modern clothes that women really want to wear, and this collection is no different. Dresses are a particular highlight this season, from long funnel-necked knitted dresses with cut-outs at the hip to silky pleated numbers updated with lace inserts or contrasting panels to define the waist. On the catwalk, these were styled with chunky gold jewellery and laced ankle boots that added an edge to their femininity. Plunging necklines and cut-outs feature heavily in the collection, but while this might seem daring, Ramsay-Levi mixed up her styling to show the versatility of her pieces. Some bared skin, yes, but elsewhere they were layered to create

interest – a deep v-neck over a polo neck is chic as well as practical. Look out also for trousers at Chloé this season. High-waisted flared trousers were seen in a number of looks on the catwalk, in colours from navy to cherry red to stone. The other standout style was a beige jodhpur – the item Ramsay-Levi chose to wear when she took her final bow. Both styles are hero pieces to add to your wardrobe: they do all the work for you. At Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller took inspiration from Berlin in the late 1970s and 80s, specifically from the city’s club scene at the time. As with Ghesquière and RamsayLevi, Waight Keller wove these influences seamlessly into pieces that are perfect for the modern woman. Take, for example, the three opening looks of her catwalk show: huge, ankle-length faux fur coats belted sharply at the waist were statement pieces that manage to capture ideas of old-world glamour, the aesthetic of Berlin club kids, and the current Above (both): Givenchy autumn/winter 2018/19

mood of the fashion world (in particular the move away from real fur) all at once. Leather features heavily in the collection, but this club kid mainstay takes on an altogether ladylike manner: look out for below-the-knee pencil skirts, tailored trench coats and even a bottle green skirt suit. On the catwalk, the codes of formal dressing were all but thrown aside. The classic white-shirt-black-trouser combination was transformed; it became a floor-length white sleeveless blouse, half-belted at the waist, offering a glimpse of the pants beneath. A shimmering, beaded gown was paired with slouchy leather ankle boots that would certainly challenge traditional dress codes. Pervading this season’s offerings from all three brands is an effortlessness and a wearability that makes these high-concept, high-fashion collections instantly desirable. If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe this season, there could be no better place than Paris in which to do so

TABLE TALK Combining breakfast with lunch has become chic in Paris – Fani Mari suggests four enticing brunch venues

Brunch has been a favourite in the United States for a century or so, and Paris is now among the many cities across the world that have also embraced this delicious, substantial combination of breakfast and lunch. Menus are eclectic and cover everything from eggs and pancakes to burgers, with coffee so good that you won’t think twice about queueing. Brunch is the perfect way to ease into a relaxed weekend or to fuel a day of exploring the boutiques of the French capital. And Paris, of course, offers something a little more refined than the American diner, adding a dash of French flair and flavour to the classic brunch favourites. globalblue.com

JUDY Judy serves food that is not only delicious but very good for you. The ‘qualitarian’ menu, overseen by naturopath Dominique Gassin, focuses on essential, healthy nutrients and fresh ingredients. Choose from tasty avocado toast with poached eggs, nutritious açaí bowls and cakes free from refined sugar. The simple, fresh dishes on offer are made from seasonal recipes and are free from gluten, lactose and additives. Cold-pressed juices are prepared on site, as is the almond milk for your coffee. Judy is open all day for a different but delicious brunch with vegetarian and vegan options. Judy, 18 rue de Fleurus, 75006 Paris, +33 (0)1 4325 5414, judy-paris.com

HARDWARE SOCIÉTÉ This Australian-style café in Montmartre is open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The founders, Di and Will Keser, are from Melbourne, and after visiting Paris many times they came up with the idea of importing their signature dishes and aesthetic to the French capital. They still import their coffee from Melbourne, and use European guest roasters for their single-origin coffee. The menu is also inspired by Will’s Spanish heritage so be

prepared for something different, in the best possible way. Dishes might include shirred eggs with chorizo, lobster eggs benedict on squid-ink buns, and mushrooms topped with poached eggs. Fried brioche, a moreish version of French toast, is a must. Toppings change frequently, but might include cardamom-roast peaches, saffron panna cotta, rose water and pistachio or raspberry curd, chantilly cream and fresh berries. Hardware Société, 10 rue Lamarck, 75018 Paris, +33 (0)1 4251 6903

ELLSWORTH Ellsworth is a short walk from the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens, so you can easily combine a day of food and sightseeing. Enjoy the short and sweet brunch menu every Sunday between 11.30am and 3pm. A bloody Mary or mimosa is a must as you choose from classic-with-a-twist dishes on offer. Sweet tooth? Try the ricotta doughnuts with caramel and vanilla, or the pancakes with apple compote and maple syrup. Prefer something savoury? The fried buttermilk chicken with slaw is a must, as is the pork belly with carrot and orange. The expertly combined flavours will make you want to come back and taste everything else on the menu, guaranteed. HOLYBELLY Holybelly is open all day and the perfect place for brunch if you like trying new things. It was opened in October 2013 by Sarah Mouchot and Nico Alary, who wanted to create a Melbourne-style cafĂŠ and serve good food and coffee in a friendly environment. The specials on the menu change often, focusing on seasonal and local produce, so you will be pleasantly surprised each time you visit. The

menu also features all the classics: pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, granola, cake and eggs prepared all ways, served alongside excellent coffee. Holybelly has two locations on rue Lucien Sampaix and the original branch at number 19 has just reopened. They don’t take reservations so you may have to wait a little while for a table at these popular venues. Holybelly, 5 rue Lucien Sampaix, 75010 Paris, holybellycafe.com

In 1968 celebrated French jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels launched the Alhambra collection, a selection of necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets inspired by the symbolically lucky four-leaf clover. To mark its golden anniversary, Van Cleef has created nine new pieces that will join the permanent collection, each inspired by an archival design. LES GRAND VERRES Located in Palais de Tokyo, one of the city’s top art galleries, Les Grand Verres has become known for fashionable brasserie-style dining. The kitchen, run by American chef Preston Miller, offers up a contemporary vision of Mediterranean classics, crafted from the freshest of seasonal ingredients, with sustainability at the heart of the menu. The cocktail list is not to be overlooked – its concoctions were created specifically for the restaurant by celebrated Parisian barman Hyacinthe Lescoët. 26: THE ESSENCE OF CHIC

globalblue.cn
