n recent years, Seoul has emerged as one of Asia’s capitals of fashion and high-end retail. This is perhaps most evident inside the city’s glittering multi-brand boutiques. These stock only the most sought-after products and, unlike traditional department stores, carry a specifc concept and philosophy across every foor. This ensures a luxurious and distinctive experience within its walls. For visitors to Seoul’s leading concept stores, shopping really is a pleasure. A leading light is 10 Corso Como Seoul, an ofshoot of the original 10 Corso Como store in Milan. Founded by Carla Sozzani, the sister of Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, 10 Corso Como is built around the idea of ‘slow 44

After – or even during – their shopping experience, they can pause at the popular café for a glass of fne wine or a plate of fresh egg pasta with green peas and black trufe. ‘Through a distinctive visual signature which blends to [create] a unique experience, 10 Corso Como Seoul aims to transform the shopping experience into a “promenade”, a stroll between desires and cultures,’ says menswear buyer Hosung Nam. The vast selection of brands requires careful editing, with the store’s buyers categorising them to help customers fnd the right fashions for them. For instance, Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann fall under ‘high-end Gothic’; Junya Watanabe, Raf Simons and Greg Lauren come under ‘avantgarde’; and Markus Lupfer, Carven and Acne Studios ft into ‘contemporary’. Another leading concept store is Boon the Shop, which ofers on-trend items across fashion, beauty and living. The interior of the fourstorey building is designed by Peter Marino, the architect behind Bulgari’s Rome fagship store and Dior’s dazzling shop in Los Angeles. glorious space, which features an atrium and hanging art installations, is a ftting home for Boon the Shop’s carefully edited selection of the most stylish and cutting-edge pieces available. Stunning items are presented in appropriately stunning ways. Dior’s Diorama bags in metallic perforated calfskin shine in all their glory on metallic shelves, illuminated by a skylight. Sought-after Moynat Réjane bags in blue, purple and turquoise are arranged on wooden platforms beneath an indoor veranda. Elsewhere, the store’s ‘shoe tunnel’ – illuminated in an electric green colour – features the most in-demand sneakers and shoes. Heels, pumps and boots from the likes of Roland Mouret, Robert Clergerie and Roger Vivier have their own mini boutiques. The list of labels doesn’t end there: with names such as Pierre-Louis Mascia, Rocio, Emilio Pucci, MSGM and Proenza Schouler, it’s a who’s who of fashion. Space Mue is perhaps more concerned with high fashion than any other shop in the city. It takes its name from the Chinese characters for ‘nothing’ and ‘two’ – in other words, ‘there is no other’.
