It’s been very busy in Main School Reception this week with the Book Fair and the arrival of the Christmas hampers. As ever, the Friends have received so many generous donations for the hampers so don’t forget to bid on your favourite - or favourites! I will be announcing the winners at the Christmas Fair next Saturday (29th November). This is a tremendous, festive occasion so I hope many of you are able to make it.
The cross country runners are off to Chartridge School tomorrow and I wish them the best of luck. The weather looks a little dubious but I hope the rain will hold off for them. Have a great weekend. DG

Nursery children turned their water tray into an aquarium. They enjoyed their under the sea themed cooking by baking octopus shaped cheese straws. Beginners have learnt about Christmas traditions around the world. Has your child told you about how different the celebrations are in other countries? In Science this week Kindergarten B-P have been discussing pet care and the role of the RSPCA. They enjoyed designing a medal for a brave pet. KgG have continued their literacy topic of Repeating Patters by looking at the poem “The Star”. Transition thoroughly enjoyed investigating the household equipment from different decades on their trip to Milestones Museum yesterday. The children investigated the mock streets and shops, and had great fun dressing up in clothing from the past.

Girls complete sponsored swim On Friday night 12 girls took part in a sponsored swim to raise money for Living Books. The girls had to swim 215 lengths in relay teams, although Alice Moffat swam the entire amount on her own. Alice finished the swim in 58 minutes and the relay teams finished soon afterwards. The teams worked brilliantly together and everyone encouraged each other as they were swimming.

Holiday Tennis Camps
As most of you will have seen, Reception became a bookshop this week for our annual Book Fair. The Travelling Book Company provided us with a wonderful selection of quality titles which have delighted the girls during their library lessons. They have enjoyed the chance to do some independent shopping, with support from me and their English teachers. It has been really good to see books and reading generating such excitement in every class.
Not Just Tennis will be holding indoor ‘Racket Extravaganzas’ at Wycombe Abbey School during the Christmas holidays. They will take place on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th December, and Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd December. They will be held from 10am to 3pm. There will be badminton, squash, mini and table tennis in the morning, followed by team games and swimming in the afternoon. Online booking is available at thecoachacademy.org, under ‘Not Just Tennis’ or email thecoachacademy01@gmail.com for information.
We have sold a total of 675 books, which will give us commission of more than £2000 to buy books for school. These will appear in the Library, classrooms, boarding houses and departments next term. So thank you to everyone who bought something, and special thanks also to my team of helpers: Mrs Rogers, Mrs Patterson, Mrs Singh, Mrs Adams and Mrs Wai. All outstanding orders will be with us early next week. Happy reading!
Musical achievement for Jasmine We do enjoy to hear about girls showcasing their abilities outside of school, whether it be in sport, music or academically. Following on from Isabella Baillieu who we included in the newsletter a couple of weeks ago, we thought you may like to hear about Jasmine Adams. On Sunday evening Jasmine, in LIIIH, played in a concert at the main hall at the Royal College of Music in London, where she was playing first violin in the National Children’s Orchestra. The concert followed a day of rehearsals at the Royal College of Music and all the children had attended regular Sunday rehearsals over the last year in preparation for Sunday’s concert. The concert, for 9-14 year olds. was directed by Roger Hodge and the evening’s programme included Elgar Chanson de Matin, MacCunn Land of the Forest and the Flood and Curtis Striding Edge as well as other challenging repertoire. If your child has achieved something extraordinary outside of school then please do let us know. and we will do our best to feature it in the newsletter if space allows. Please email gmay@godstowe.org.
Beacon Maths Challenge On Tuesday four girls from the Middle Thirds took part in the Beacon Maths Challenge. They worked as a team answering a variety of questions from tangrams to word problems to Countdown style number questions. The girls worked together very well and managed to solve a large number of the puzzles. Congratulations to Megan Harris, Hannah Gibbons, Amy Curry and Sasha Korovkina for their efforts.
Poems of the week His Death Frightens Me by Abbie Leaver
Being Old Is.... by Kate Larard
We strolled as usual, Oblivious, unaware, Of what was to happen, And how much we’d care. Then he raced ahead, And I was to go too, Through to the house With the black gates a strew.
Being old is Freedom When I am old, I shall be exciting I will not listen to anyone or anything I shall whirl around in the heaving rain Then come back home with dreadful drips, just to be a pain And lie on the sofa to soak that too!
He bolted inside, Running at full speed, To the next gate Then my nightmare would proceed. The dogs standing behind Barked louder than a roar, Then all the rush slowed, Away at my boy so fearful and limp.
When I am old, I will run the house I will not listen to anyone or anything I shall stay up late and go to fun parties Then eat sweets and buy cute puppies And never ration my sugar, just to have more freedom!
The teeth tore and tore I wanted to wake up, shake off this bad dream, But as much as I shouted screamed and accused, He still lay there panting, no longer supreme.
When I am old, I shall not care I will not listen to anyone of anything I shall wear the first awful outfit That comes out of my drawers, even if it does not fit Then I can get dressed in a minute, to enjoy my freedom all the more!
We rushed to the vets, Afraid and confused, Of the result of the drama And the bringing of bad news. His eyes stared at me, Pleading for help, When all I could give Was a faint yelp.
When I am old, I can spoil my children I will not listen to anyone or anything I shall slip sugary doughnuts under the table To my young little friends Just because I am able And enjoy seeing them happy and full of sugar too!
I unmistakably remember, His eyes going dry, Life and love all sucked out, I started to cry. I often think what if, why and how but, There’s one thing I know, please can’t you see? My dog, my friend, His death frightens me.
