Today 420 Walt Disney characters appeared at school and I am very impressed by the amount of effort taken to enjoy the day with a multitude of fine costumes. Many of the staff went the extra mile too. My thanks to parents and housemistresses for all of their help digging out whatever was necessary.

Nursery children have this week been looking at dragons. They made fire breathing dragon cups and unicorn horns in their cookery session. Beginners will be bringing home some number story sheets today. Please keep these at home and practise them in order to help your children learn number stories to 10. Kindergarten have enjoyed learning about Sir Ernest Shackleton and his voyage to Antarctica. In Art, they used their knowledge to paint a dramatic scene. Transition have started to tackle division this week by learning to share objects equally. Transition H experimented with watercolour pencils to paint birds in their Art lesson. Today’s Mufti Day theme was Disney and the children were dressed in some fantastic costumes, pictured here. Nursery and Beginners parents – if you were unable to attend the phonics workshop held on Thursday, the presentation is available in the Parents’ Area on the school website, or by clicking here.

Girls represent Godstowe at schools show jumping competition Last Saturday, four girls from Godstowe took part in an NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) show jumping competition at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire. Bea Barker and her pony Rosie were up first in the 40cm. Having produced a spectacular round, Bea went on to win her class. Natasha Turner, Francesca Macleod Matthews and Megan Li teamed up for the 70cm and 80cm. Although they didn’t gain a team placing, Francesca finished sixth in the 70cm (out of 70 riders) and Megan Li, competing against more than 100 other riders, finished fourth individually in the 80cm. These were fantastic results, particularly as it was their first outing. Godstowe recently joined the NSEA to allow the equestrian enthusiasts at school to take part in schools competitions, which run throughout the year. Girls can enter as a team or as an individual, with jumping classes starting at 40cm at most competitions. Whilst show jumping is very popular, dressage and cross country competitions are also on offer.

Poems of the week Tiny Poems by LIII By Isabella Scanlon-Rubio Everywhere everything is huge Where shall I go next? As I am so Tiny Danger written all over the walls Nearly getting trampled every second Now that I am so Tiny Everything opposite of hush Noise coming from every direction Now that I am so Tiny
By Emelia Yap The sun was setting Darkness fell The miniscule creature started exploring It found a miniature cave of hairy spikes Bubbling wet dampness Out of the blue there was an immense tornado explosion But wait, what was it? The miniscule creature hung on for dear life “HAAAA CHOOO!!” The tiny creature diminished never to be seen again
I feel as miniscule as a flea As Runty as a horsefly As petite as a grain of sugar Now that I am so Tiny
