I hope everybody enjoyed half term and the concert last Friday.Well done and many thanks to all of you.Things are moving at a rapid pace as usual. I have recently had a meeting with the Form Reps for Headmaster’s Question Time and you may be interested to know that minutes of that meeting are now available on the website (in the Parents’ Area, under FAQs).Thank you for your comments and support.

photographic memories of the occasion. Tonight the girls in the Fourths are marching down to High Wycombe to see a performance of To Kill a Mockingbird at the Swan. There is a lot of sport this weekend (netball and lacrosse at St Mary’s Calne, and a netball tournament at Queen Anne’s). Once again I am charged bilocating, but I think St Mary’s gets the vote on this occasion. Tomorrow evening we take all of the boarders to Parkside School in Cobham for a fireworks display. This is an occasion when the girls get to meet another Mr Gainer (my son who works there) in case one wasn’t enough!

We are looking forward to a very special Remembrance Day Service on Tuesday. This, by the way, is a closed, private occasion for pupils and staff. We will be assembling outside the front of school encircling the ceramic poppies and the girls will be dressed in their cloaks ready for some

Sunday, at present, looks a little quieter?! Have a good weekend. DG

investigations at home would be fun – please get the ice cubes out this weekend.

Beginners art work this week has focussed on Bonfire Night and the children have been making poppies ready for Remembrance Day.

Please make sure that your children bring their black coat to school with them every day as they go out to play even if it is cold. On Tuesday we will be standing outside for two minutes silence. so they will definitely need it for then.

Kindergarten’s new History topic is the Romans. They enjoyed making clay pots in their DT lessons. Transition have a 5 times table test looming, so please help your child to know them inside out and back to front! In Science this week they have been investigating the effects of melting and freezing chocolate, bread and water. Further

I hope you all had a great half term. FOG are now finalising the plans for the Christmas Fair on Saturday 29th November from 1-5pm. If you haven’t done so already, do put this date in your diary as we have lots of exciting new offerings for both children and adults this year. We would however please ask for your help with the following items:

Soft Toys We need donations of soft toys for one of our most popular Christmas Fair stands. Please do take a look around your home and consider whether you can give any soft toys that your children may have outgrown. The toys need to be in a good condition and it would be fantastic if they could be cleaned/washed before bringing into school. There is a drop-off box in Main School Reception and Lodge for anybody who can help.

to buy a little something instead. Please put any donations in the Mystery Shop Box in Main School Reception. Jam Jars We have already had a flurry of jam jar donations, both filled and empty, this is fabulous, thank you. Please keep them coming! With hardly a moment to draw breath, we find that next Friday is “Children in Need” day. Our children are invited to wear Mufti to school and to donate £1 (or more!) to this worthy cause. Just this morning I read that over 90,000 children will be homeless in the UK this Christmas. I do hope you will be happy to support our Mufti Day and spread a little happiness.

Remembrance Day

Pantomime tickets

We are very much looking forward to our Remembrance Day service on Tuesday, which will be held around our poppy display. The Art Department has been working very hard to get all the ceramic poppies ready and most have now been planted. We hope you have been able to admire them.

There are seven spare tickets for the Lodge trip to see the Dick Whittington pantomime at the Wycombe Swan on Sunday 14th December at 1.30pm. Parents and children from Godstowe are attending.

Please note that the service is a closed event for pupils and staff only.

Please ensure girls in Main School have their cloaks in school on Monday and Tuesday. Our service will be covered by the local press so we would like everyone to look smart and in the correct uniform. As stated in the recent parentmail, girls should have their cloaks in school at all times during the winter term. Please may we ask you to check the name tags in your daughters’ cloaks as we have had a couple of incidences of cloaks going missing.

Isabella Baillieu qualifies Research and Reading for World Championships Congratulations to Isabella Baillieu who has qualified for the USAIGC (US Association of Independent Gymnastics Club) World Championships in California next June. Joined by other members from her club Booker Gymnastics, she took part in the National Championships in Milton Keynes in October, winning two silver medals (in floor and vault) and achieving her qualification for the World Championships where she will represent England. This year they had to qualify across four disciplines – floor, vault, bars and beam. They had to achieve a high enough mark in all four in order to qualify, which Isabella succeeded in doing so.

This week the Fourths have been researching to Kill a Mockingbird on the Google Chrome Books during Mrs van Hoegaerden’s English class. The year group are very excited about their trip to see the production at the theatre this evening. Meanwhile some girls have been making the most of the beanbags in Room 3 during reading time.

In June this year Isabella finished 16th out of more than 70 in the USAIGC World Championships in Orlando, USA.

Successful inaugural Netball Tour to Jersey What a fun-filled and busy trip we had in Jersey! The girls were taught some new netball drills and tactics and were able to put their newly learnt skills into practice in the competitive matches they played against the Jersey elite and performance teams - they won five out of six matches!. They have brought these skills and drills home and are sharing them with their peers. The teams now have a renewed passion for the game and cannot wait to play their next matches.

- They watched a live match between Jersey Jets and Kent County - Bowling - Outdoor adventure morning with High Ropes, Archery, King Swing, Zip Wire, Power Fan drop - Visit to St. Helier - Trip to St. Catherine’s breakwater and tour around some of the Island. - Stroll along the beach - Picnic by the sea - Swimming - Our very own ‘Jersey’s got Talent’ Show

Here is what they squeezed into five days: - Five Training sessions - Two matches

The Jersey Netball Tour Song Sung to the tune of “A few of my favourite things” Footwork and passing And beating team Jersey Dorm points and breakfast And bowling and winning Vending machines that don’t work one bit These are a few of my favourite things When the plane leaves Or we spend all of our money We simply remember the netball tour and then we don’t feel so sad!

Poem of the week Shall I Compare Thee To a Pesky Fly? A parody of Shall I compare Thee to a Summer’s Day

Shall I compare thee to a pesky fly? Thou art more irritating and galling Occasions come when we have a ceasefire, When we agree to stop the name calling When threats from parents manage to stop us And evidence of fights cease to exist Or silly jokes melt the ice of ruckus Or chocolate is involved and is at risk But then straight back to quarrel we will go Back to an unnecessary dispute The melted ice of ruckus will regrow Because of reasons ever so minute But as long as Christians say God is King You’ll always be the best ever sibling! by Afua Adomakoh, Scarlett Irons and Eleanore Debs (Fourth Form)
