Nursery have been talking about caterpillars. They made fruit caterpillars in their cookery lesson from strawberries, grapes, apples, pear and plums. You may have noticed that the Beginners WOW board has a new design this term. Your child will be bringing home new WOW cards today in the shape of fish and bubbles. We look forward to seeing the board filling up with the children’s achievements.

Kindergarten have thoroughly enjoyed designing and painting their rainforest t-shirts using acrylic paints.
Transition carried out a science investigation and created a time line involving the development of humans. In their art lesson next week Transition will require an empty box to create a Tudor street to tie in with their topic of the Fire of London. If you have any empty boxes no larger than cereal boxes, please can you send them in for Tuesday. Please may we remind you that all children need their full PE kit in school each day. Please check that they have their trainers and plimsolls at all times.

But there are still some key areas that we would dearly love to get some support for. The areas can be sponsored individually, as a group donation or as a business. If you are able to help, or know of any businesses who would be interested, please do get in touch via email friends@godstowe.org Even the smallest donation will fund some aspect of the day.

Girls encouraged to read more classical literature The English department have launched an initiative that is aimed to encourage the girls to read more classical literature. The Upper Thirds will begin with “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, which they will start reading once the summer exams have finished. Miss Balsdon and Mrs van Hoegaerden will use their shared sessions to hold a series of discussions and debates around the novel. McVitie’s Classic Collection biscuits will even be served during the debates! Aside from reading the book, the Uppers will also see the production at the Wycombe Swan in November. Therefore, all girls must have read the novel by 15th September!
The USA Lacrosse Tour
2
by Emilia Lloyd and Sophie Evett In the Easter holidays, 18 girls from the Upper Thirds and Fourths set off on what was to be an amazing lacrosse tour of the USA. The squad was accompanied by Mrs Reynolds, Miss Hearnshaw and Mr Gainer. The tour covered five east coast cities: Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston and included five matches, some sightseeing and cultural visits (as well as a bit of shopping). The first stop was Washington DC where we visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol and the Smithsonian Institute. We also had our first match against St Stephen’s and St Agnes School and then stayed with the opposing team’s families for two nights, enjoying their American hospitality. We travelled to Baltimore by coach, driven by our friendly driver Moses, who was with us

throughout the tour. We visited the National Aquarium and the National Lacrosse Museum in Baltimore and played our next match against Cobra Lacrosse Club and again stayed with the players and their families. Our next stop was Pennsylvania and it was nice to see some countryside. We attended some lessons at the school and spent two further nights with the host families. Then on to New York for some sightseeing, including the Empire State Building (102 floors high), the Statue of Liberty, a picnic in Central Park and a ride in a limo. Mrs Reynolds even arranged for Godstowe’s name to appear in the lights in Times Square! We also managed to squeeze in some shopping.

finished the tour in Boston, visiting Harvard University and enjoying a duck tour.
The lacrosse tour was an amazing experience. The different year groups bonded well and we had some really enjoyable lacrosse matches against excellent opponents - we won two, lost three. We were treated so well by our welcoming and hospitable US host families and really got a taste of what it’s like being an American teenager. We also had the opportunity of seeing some iconic sights and discovering some of the history and culture of the east coast cities we visited.
