Happy New Year! By Lara Mullins (IVA) Happy New Year to you all. Once again I’m amazed at the number of children I hear about who flew half way round the world over the Christmas holidays. Just as well they did because all I can remember is dark, grey, rainy, horrible, dismal misery of the most outstanding example of British weather at its worst. But now the term has started the sun shines again as it invariably does at Godstowe. It’s good to see everyone looking so

This week’s sport U11 Netball: The U11 netball team played in the Queen Anne’s tournament on Saturday 11th January. They finished third in their group matches and went on to play in a further group where they finished second. Overall they were placed tenth. A good effort by all the players.
Beginners have enjoyed the variety of weather this week, especially some of the downpours as they have been learning about Noah’s Ark!

Happy New Year to all of our Lodge families. The children are all settling back into their school routine and we hope they are enjoying their choice of after school clubs this term. May we remind you that all the children should have uniform red gloves, hats and scarves in school for playtimes and uniform black pimple gloves for games lessons. Please ensure that they are all clearly named. A reminder that the gravel area by Nursery is out of bounds after school as access is required to and from the garage at all times. Has anyone lost their lilac ballet cardigan size 00? Mrs Armstrong has it in her office – it has no name in it. A letter for Lodge parents about the nature table in our conservatory this term is attached. We will be focusing on the characteristics of plants and trees.

well and healthy and we look forward to another busy, hardworking and, with any luck, thoroughly enjoyable Spring Term.
meaning of a New Year’s Resolution and writing their own on a leaf to go on our ‘New Year’s Resolution Tree’. Transition children are starting a long term investigation of the weather. This will be ongoing for a few weeks and the children are responsible for taking their recordings three times a day (pictured above).
Charitynews The Autumn Term is always very busy in terms of Godstowe’s fundraising for charity. We had Macmillan Coffee morning (and cakes for the children), Harvest, Children in Need, poppies for Remembrance Day and Christmas shoeboxes. In addition to this there was a Mufti Day in aid of Jeans for Genes and an impromptu collection for the survivors of the Philippines Hurricane, all of which resulted in a total giving of more than £3,000. Thank you so much for your generosity. This term we have just two events on the Charities calendar. Our Mufti Day at the end of February will support the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust. Before that, however, we have a major fundraiser for the NSPCC and we hope
Mrs Buckland that as many children as possible will want to get involved with finding sponsors as they try to improve their fitness in PE lessons. Although all children will participate in these lessons, finding sponsors is, of course, optional. On 31st January Mr Ian Stevens, fundraising coordinator for NSPCC, will be speaking to the children, after which children will be given leaflets to take home. Obviously, we emphasise that children must not ask strangers, or knock on doors to ask for sponsors, so any help you can give in contacting relatives or perhaps taking your child’s sponsorship form in to work, would be greatly appreciated.
