love this time of the year in Arizona, when the days are warm and the evenings cool. The monsoon season is also officially over!
Mark and I were quite busy last month attending many AZPCA social events. Don’t worry there are still more events to participate in. Just make sure to sign up! We have a new returning sponsor in Going Places. McIlvain Motors, who has been serving Arizona since 1919. The owner is also AZPCA’s Technical Chair, Scott McIlvain. Welcome back. Look what I received in the mail from PCA National, our award for winning 3rd place in Class V, in the 2021 National Newsletter Contest! I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to write stories/articles and take pictures at our AZPCA events for Going Places, because without your participation there would be no monthly newsletter/magazine. I am looking for an Assistant Editor for Going Places. If you are interested send me an email at: gpeditor@az.pca.org This month the winner for the Writer’s Monthly Award for Going Places is Kenneth Mitchell for contributing “Autocross Season Is Back.” He will receive a $30. credit on MotorsportReg, which is good for one year to use on any AZPCA activity. Looking forward to seeing you in person at one of our upcoming events. I will be attending this month’s member meeting at the Brat Haus. Come on out to celebrate Oktoberfest!

REGION ANNOUNCEMENTS AZPCA “Hot Air Tour” to New Mexico Friday - Monday, October 1 - 4, 2021 Join us for the third “Hot Air Tour” to New Mexico. We will be leaving Phoenix for Socorro, NM on Friday, October 1, taking a scenic route through eastern Arizona and Western New Mexico to Socorro. On the way there will visit the Very Large Array of radio telescopes for a tour (http://www.vla.nrao.edu/), if their restrictions allow. We will be staying at the Socorro Best Western Hotel. Friday evening, we will have dinner at a restaurant near the hotel followed by a presentation on the Atomic Bomb and the effects of radiation presented by Steve Sapareto (our first “hot air” event). Saturday morning, we will drive into White Sands Missile Range to the Trinity Bomb site and museum where the first atomic bomb was detonated. It is only open to the public two days per year (don’t worry, radiation levels are very low). We will leave the site about noon time for lunch and a scenic drive to Albuquerque arriving in time to visit the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History (https://www.nuclearmuseum.org/) for a guided tour before checking into our hotel at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North. Dinner will be on your own at one of the nearby restaurants. Getting up very early Sunday we will watch the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Mass Ascension, one of the largest balloon launches in the world from a good vantage point (possibly the Albuquerque Porsche dealership). More than 700 balloons from all over the world launch from a 78-acre launch field (54 football fields) at the 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park. Those interested can also join us to meet the Lambda Car Club for the Fiesta of Wheels, a car display right on the balloon launch grounds, displaying our cars along with over 200 others. This will provide free admission to the balloon grounds. The rest of the day will be available for sightseeing followed by an evening dinner and viewing of the Balloon Glow and Fireworks at the International Balloon Museum Foundation (https://balloonmuseum. com/ ). We will return home on Monday as a group or individually. Those interested in arranging balloon rides should contact Rainbow Ryders the official Fiesta Balloon ride concession. Find contact information at www.balloonfiesta.com under guest information. Other special event offerings are also listed. The registration fee (expected to be about $130.) will cover the VLA tour, Friday night dinner and presentation, the National Museum of Nuclear Science tour, and International Balloon Museum banquet and tour. All other meals and lodging will be at your expense. Check our AZPCA website to sign-up. We only have a limited number of rooms available at each location so please make your reservations as soon as possible to get our group rate and to ensure a room as hotel lodging during the Balloon Fiesta will be extremely difficult to find. Make Reservations for Friday night, October 1st at the Socorro Hotel & Suites, 1100 N. California, Socorro, NM 87801, Phone: (575) 838-0556 ($119.99/night). Mention the Porsche Club to get our rate. REGION ANNOUNCEMENTS Weekday Drive to Bagdad Wednesday, October 20, 2021 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
An idea we have not tried before… a weekday driving tour. AZPCA’s first! October schedule is packed with events: track days, a multi-day tour to New Mexico, a special breakfast, Concours prep and judging school… not to mention national and zone events. But if you’re looking for something different, getting your Porsche out on a weekday could be an option. Bring your Porsche out for a drive on some of the best stretches of scenic and fun roads in the state — Yarnell Hill, Peeples Valley, Kirkland Junction toward Bagdad, then up-and-back on the twisty roller-coaster AZ-97. A driver’s drive for sure! At the end of the fun drive we’ll gather at the Copper Country Bar & Grill for lunch.
Menu choices at the Copper Country will include a Grilled Chicken Ranch sandwich with bacon and pepper jack cheese; Arizona Burger with grilled onions and green chilies; or Southwest Chicken Salad with cheddar cheese, salsa, black beans, corn, and tortilla strips. Cost of $20 per person includes tax, tip, non-alcoholic drinks, payable when you register on MotorsportReg. So take a day off from the office, skip school, whatever; this will be a fun day! Check the event page on AZPCA events calendar at https://az.pca.org/ event/weekday-drive-to-bagdad/ for more details. | 16 |

2022 Board of Directors Candidates
SECRETARY Jack Arnold I am seeking re-election as the AZPCA Secretary for two more years. The position over the last two years has taught me a great deal and I want to continue to contribute to the club. In addition to serving as the Secretary for the last two years, I also took on the duties as the club’s Webmaster. I’ve been a Porsche guy my entire life, from the moment I was brought home from the hospital in my father’s 356B. I’ve had the privilege of many fond memories with a Porsche, my family and friends, who I’ve met through the club. My wife and I relocated 6 years ago from where we grew up in Western Nebraska and I was a member of the Rocky Mountain Region. Three years ago, my wife rewarded me with a 2008 997 C4S Cabriolet after a yearlong journey to lose 100 pounds. You can find us loading up with our two kids squeezed into the backseat. We are excited to share our passion of Porsches with our kids and look for ways to incorporate younger generations. In my free time you will be able to find me in the garage teaching my kids how to work on our recently acquired 1973 914 just as my father did with me or spending time with our close friends, family or two dogs.
TREASURER Andrew Grossman My wife, our 3 dogs and I moved to the Valley from Chicago in 2005 and we absolutely love it here. After graduating from Indiana University with an MBA in finance I spent almost 15 years as a co-manager and trader for a small London-based fixed income hedge fund. After a 20+ year Wall Street career, I recently left to start a dog accessory business with my wife, I couldn’t be happier with life now. I have been interested in cars for as long as I can remember, I used to love to visit the Chicago auto show each year and dream about which car I’d someday buy. My love of Porsches started when I first laid eyes on a 959 my local dealer had on display and it was the coolest car I had ever seen. Many years later I purchased my first Porsche, a 2006 atlas grey 911 Carrera S. In my free time I enjoy hiking, traveling, playing tennis and watching college football. I currently serve as club treasurer and hope to have the opportunity to do so for another term | 18 |
Directors at Large Candidates Andy Jorgensen
I bought my first Porsche – a 2011 987.2 Cayman in Basalt Black Metallic – in December of 2020 after a several yearlong search to find exactly what I wanted. Like most of you, I’ve had a love for Porsche as far back as I can remember and I’m excited to be a part of a club full of people that share that love. I haven’t been in the club too long but have enjoyed attending as many events as possible. My wife and I have both loved the drives we’ve been on, volunteering at HPDE, and some of the most fun has been meeting so many of you at the monthly membership meetings that we are excited to now be in person for. I’m looking forward to seeing some of you at the driving tours to Mormon Lake and Flagstaff, Mount Lemmon, the various membership meetings, volunteering at Flight 43, and probably just about any other event that is posted.
Rook Younger
Throughout my admittedly short life to this point I’ve always loved being a part of a community and volunteering to make the experience even better for those also involved. I believe I have some great things to offer the PCA: my career provides me with a great deal of flexibility, I’m quite tech savvy, and love a bit of hard work. I appreciate your consideration and with your vote I can promise you that I’ll do everything in my ability to fulfill my duties as a Director at Large. I am pleased to submit my name for consideration as a candidate for Director on the AZPCA Board of Directors. I am currently completing a two-year term as a director on the board. I served previously as AZPCA President for two years (2015-2016), and am very proud of our Region’s being awarded National PCA Region of the Year for 2016. I served as Vice President prior to being elected president, and in addition to serving on the Board of Directors I currently hold the position of AZPCA Driving Tour Chair.
In addition to service on the board of directors and planning and leading Driving Tours as Chair, I have been involved in numerous other areas in support of the club: providing editing assistance for Going Places, assisting with the club website content, creating and providing administrative support for event registration functions on the club’s registration site (MotorsportReg.com), volunteering to help with events such as Flight and the annual Holiday Party, mentoring and assisting others in event planning and execution, and participating in the many social activities, performance driving events, and other happenings we all enjoy as Porsche enthusiasts. My vision for the Arizona Region is to provide an environment where membership in the club is central to peoples’ enjoyment of their cars with others of like interest. As a director I will strive to make the club the best it can be for every member of the AZPCA. My working career was spent almost entirely with Salt River Project, including over 33 years in engineering and information technology. I spent six years managing a technical team which supported the e-mail system on which over 4,000 users depended on to do their jobs. During much of my career my responsibilities centered on assisting others: technical training and support, mentoring, consulting, and planning, developing, and facilitating the implementation of technical solutions. After retiring from SRP I spent ten years as an employee of the Arizona Diamondbacks as a Tour Guide at Chase Field. I look forward to the opportunity to serve as your representative on the Board of Directors. With the capable leadership of the members on the board, and the contributions of those who generously offer their time and efforts as volunteers, the AZPCA will continue to enhance your experience as a member of the Porsche Club of America. Directors at Large Candidates Andy Cole I wish to be considered for the Director at Large position as the club board transition into 2022. I have been a PCA member since 2017 with the Redwood Region PCA club in Sonoma/ Marin counties in Northern California and recently transferred my PCA membership when my wife, Christine and I relocated to AZ from CA in February 2021. I held the position of news editor for almost 18 months and had just taken the role of VP Redwood Region when we left for AZ. I did ask and was granted the open role of Concours Head Judge and will happily carry out those duties. I feel with my previous PCA club experience I have much to offer the AZPCA and would very much welcome the opportunity to serve in the Director at Large position also. A brief history on myself - Originally from Leeds in the North of England and grew up following and still do, the Formula 1 motor racing and the Le Mans annual races. It was the Le Mans races back in the 70s and 80s that inspired me to focus on Porsches and although it has taken me many years to achieve my motoring dream, I am now fortunate to be a very happy Porsche owner for the past 4+ years. I started with a 987 Boxster and was encouraged to enter many concours events culminating in a 2nd place at the 2019 Werks Reunion in Monterey. Late in 2019 I replaced my Boxster with my lifelong dream of a 911 Carrera convertible and have spent the last 2 years making this car my own with Martini livery, Porsche Sports Exhaust, and some carbon fiber interior upgrades. As with many other PCA members, one of the biggest benefits of being involved with a club is the great like-minded people you meet and the life long friends that you make. Moved to the USA in 2004. I have spent my career in IT, and for the past 11 years worked at Dell Technologies where I run the Customer Service organization for the West and Texas. I love new technology especially when it moves into the auto industry and I am very interested in the electric/hybrid vehicles we see popping up from all auto manufacturers. That said, there is nothing that beats a screaming flat 6 or 8 cylinder Porsche and I believe these will be here for some time to come. I would very much appreciate your consideration and vote for the open role of AZPCA Director at Large.

AUTOCROSS SEASON IS BACK! STORY BY KENNETH MITCHELL PHOTOS BY JAN NYQUIST
| 22 |
T
he 2021/2022 AZPCA Region Autocross season is under way. The autocross schedule is published every month in Going Places and also can be found on the Motorsportsreg websites. Events are held on Saturdays at Arizona Motorsports Park (AMP) in Litchfield Park. You will need to register via your MotorsportReg account just like you do with any AZPCA Driving Event or Dinner Meeting. You should register quickly because these events tend to fill up quickly. Do not forget to complete the Speedwaiver, this is important and required for you to participate. If you do not complete this portion of your registration, your registration will be incomplete and not permitted to remain at the site. Just prior to the event, the autocross co-chairs will send you an email with a couple of .pdf files attached. One of the attached files is a Release and Waiver of Liability Form for you to print out and complete, prior to arriving on site so, do not forget to print, sign, and bring it with you. This release and waiver of liability is required for the AMP Facility and this form is in addition to the PCA release and waiver form you signed, via the Speedwaiver process. You will also receive a copy of the Course Map, your work and driving/run groups, and the grid position assignments, for the event. The email will also explain the procedures regarding when to place your car in your grid position. Please print a copy of the course map for yourself and bring it with you. As sometimes emails from Motorsportreg may be mis-identified as spam or junk, please check those. The key is that the email will be sent and if you don’t get them as outlined contact Kim or Rick. AMP is located on Camelback Road approximately 1 ½ mile east of Arizona Loop 303. The entrance to AMP will be on your left. You will likely see a lot of road and site construction in progress in front of the entrance to the autocross site. Please use caution when entering the site. As you turn into the entrance to AMP, stay to the left entrance and drive straight through the double gate, and turn left at your first opportunity, and then drive straight ahead. The site will open at 7AM. You should arrive early. Find a place to park your car and unload all loose items and place them in a safe place near your parking space. After, you unload your car, take your completed AMP Release and Waiver form to the Timing Table, there will be a wire basket for you to put your form in.
After you place your AMP form in the basket, feel free to walk the course to get familiar with the design of the course. If you would like to have some help with the course walk, feel free to ask Kim K. or Rick A. for help and they will have someone walk with you and explain the course to you. If this is your first autocross event, please contact Kim or Rick and let them know this is your first time. You will need to have your car sound tested by the AMP Officials. If there is an event scheduled for the Road Course Track, Kim and/or Rick may inspect your car and issue a Provisional Sound Check to allow you to participate for this event. If your car is essentially stock, you should not have a problem. You may need to have your car sound tested at the next event until you receive an AMP Sound Certification Sticker. Just prior to the start of the event, approximately 8:15 AM or 8:30AM, Kim and Rick will conduct a driver’s safety meeting. This is a mandatory meeting for everyone on-site. Safety is the upmost important factor. In addition to the safety factors of the event, they will also explain the event’s format, Tech Inspection, and anything else related to the event operation. Any 2010, 2015, and 2020 Snell Certified “M” rated or “SA” rated helmet can be used for all AZPCA Autocross events during 2021. If you don’t have a helmet or have an outdated one, the club does have a limited number of rental helmets that can be reserved when you register on line. The AZPCA Region Website is a great source of information for you to prepare for your first event. The link to the website is: az.pca.org/autocross Please review this information prior to your first event. The National PCA website is also a wealth of information on various elements of autocrossing. You can view the details at www.pca.org/autocross-defined If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the AZPCA Autocross Co-Chairs, Kim or Rick, via email at autocross@ az.pca.org. Consider joining us for a day of fun and sharpening your driving skills. We hope to see you at the event.

MY TWO DAYS WITH PORSCHE DRIVE! STORY AND PHOTOS BY RICH ANDRADE
I
’ve had some fun … in May I won a two day drive in any of the “Porsche Drive” rentals as a door prize at the Porsche Club America 2021 Treffen Scottsdale volunteer appreciation event.
To rent, it is all done on your smartphone … download the App and get going. We picked the new Porsche 911 at Porsche North Scottsdale.
I literally drove the “free for two days” Porsche 911 off the showroom floor. | 32 |
Here I am ready to go … this 911 was painted in Arrest Me Red, or is it Guards Red?
This was the odometer as I made my first stop … it was BRAND NEW.

Our post Treffen route was one that we had experienced on earlier AZPCA drives; start in Scottsdale, drive north to Cottonwood, Jerome, Prescott (overnight) and return to Phoenix via the twisty road through Yarnell to Wickenburg. The drive was in late June, so we were in the middle of the hot Arizona summer. We didn’t drop the top until Cottonwood, where it was a bit cooler then Phoenix.
Betsy was having fun too!
What looks like a mushroom cloud is the Rafael wild fire burning in northern Arizona as viewed from Jerome. | 34 |
The Rafael Wild Fire was raging in the distance.
The 8-speed Porsche Double Clutch transmission (Doppelkupplungsgetriebe PDK) has 8 forward gears. At 70 mph the Porsche 911 engine is spinning at 1,500 RPM. The Maximum RPM is 7,300 RPM, so using the top gear ratio I calculate that “if there was no wind resistance, this Porsche has a theoretical top speed of 340.6 mph” …. WOW. We achieved 27 mpg on the return drive from Prescott. This is the performance and economy for which Porsche is famous.

The instrument cluster is all display screen except for the analog tach in the center. It is multifunction. Here is the Navi screen selection with the selectable map display next to the tachometer.
Navigation instructions are also provided inside the speedometer.
| 36 |
Our Return Odometer. With the rental, I was allowed 400 miles / 644 km over two days. Upon our return we had a little “reserve” as the odometer was at around 12 miles when I picked it up. The base 3-liter boxer-six engine sports two turbochargers and produces 379 HP/ 379kKW and 331 lb-ft of/449 Nm torque. The 8 speed PDK transmission is just amazing. It matches the engine power to demand with surgical precision and it with a stab of the throttle finds a gear to blast out the power. It accelerates 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds. Porsche has done an amazing job with their 2021 911. There is more to read here: https://www.excellence-mag.com/

SCHUMACHER,THE MOVIE STORY BY DANIELLE BADLER
I
always start a video on things motive with the hope it will rise up and join the pantheon of cinematic greats. And, most times, they don’t. Oh, don’t get me wrong. Some are very good, very entertaining, especially if you have gasoline in your veins. But are they going to stand the true test? Of time? Are you going to watch them, again and again, for the pure enjoyment? It’s doubtful. And that’s what I think of “Schumacher,” which was just released on Netflix. It’s good. It’s entertaining. You learn a great deal about the quiet and polite, the aggressive and purpose-led, the complex German. But does the documentary join “Grand Prix?” “Le Mans?” Does it match up with “Senna,” which is probably the video that’s most similar? Let me answer my own question my own way. Exactly 30 years have passed since Michael burst on the F1 scene. And it’s been eight years since his tragic skiing accident. Let’s face it, that’s many Grand Prix seasons ago. The brain fades, the details go blurry. What the film does is bring it all back in technicolor. And it adds a lot of details at the edge, a lot of texture and context. And that’s where we find the heart of the story – remembering and re-experiencing, and learning, pieces of the story that add to a better appreciation of his accomplishments … and tragic latest chapter. For example … I had no idea that Schumacher came from relatively modest means. How many pilots on the grid today can say that? Lewis, for sure. But most are the sons of gazillionaires. It makes a difference. Michael’s father, Rolf, got him and his brother started in go-karts at a very early age. And Michael showed his promise very early on. Using cast-off equipment that he, and his father, literally made competitive. Yet he might have faded away into the paddock, if it weren’t for Willi Weber, Michael’s agent, who spotted the talent and literally bankrolled him in competitive carting. Which led to a rapid rise in Formula tiers. And Eddie Jordan, who had Michael “sit in,” midway through the ’91 season. “I always liked to give youth a chance,” he says. It was Spa, and Schumacher qualified seventh. Which made him an instant star. And led him to a seat with Benetton, after one race. “One race, and I was with the fourth best team in F1,” Michael says. “Formula 1 made me an offer.” He won his first Grand Prix a year later, at 23. Corinna, Michael’s wife, is quoted on-camera throughout. At one point, she says they married before the glory. “No one could sense what would happen.” Willi Weber describes sitting down with him in a town square for a snack … and that it was the last time Michael could be incognito in public. In the opening sequence to the film, you see Michael and, I would presume, Corinna scuba diving. Then it’s one lap of Monaco. He says, “The feeling to not go over the top or under.
| 40 |
Do it and it’s satisfying … to reach 100% … that’s my target.” Flash to Imola in 1994. I remember watching Senna’s crash, live. But I completely forgot that, when it happened, he was fighting tooth and nail with Schumacher. And that the information on Senna’s condition, immediately following the accident, was scant at best. Apparently, the drivers had no idea about Senna’s condition until after the race. Michael says in an interview that, at the next race, at Silverstone, he took a rental car around the track and, at one corner, said to himself, “this is a point on the track where I could be dead.” And he reached another corner and said the same thing. The night before the race, he says, “I wasn’t sure I could be in a race car. It was something very strange.” He woke up in the middle of the night, slept maybe three hours. “He blocked out everything else,” says Corinna, by way of explanation. But, therein lies a controversy that probably will never be resolved. Because it doesn’t explain his, shall we politely say, possible errors in on-track judgment, several times, over the years. Regarding Adelaide in ’94, Damon Hill says “Put me in his car, in his situation, what would I do? I don’t know.” What Michael did do is punt his competitor out of the race. How he got to Ferrari in ‘96. Ross Brawn says Niki Lauda, who was connected to the Scuderia at the time, said to Willi Weber that Michael should become a world champion at Ferrari, “and you’ll be able to throw away your passport.” The only catch was that the Ferrari was a disaster on the track. Says Brawn, what motivated Michael, then already a two-time world champion, is that he wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before … by Senna, by Prost. And so he did. Logging five consecutive world championships for the Scuderia. On retirement; “I retired because I didn’t have the passion and motivation anymore.” On coming out of retirement with Mercedes; “It was personal, I needed to drive, to compete.” Flash to Meribel, France, 29 December 2013. Apparently, the retired race car driver offered to Corinna that they could go, instead, to Dubai and go skydiving. “Michael wouldn’t just go for one jump, he’d do 24 jumps, all day long.” But they didn’t. “I always felt he had a few guardian angels,” she says. “It never occurred to me that anything could happen to Michael. “I never blamed God for what happened,” she says. “Of course, I miss him every day. But … it’s different, but he’s here and that gives us strength. Michael always protected us, and now we’re protecting Michael.” “Fate is unpredictable,” Corinna says. But watching the documentary “Schumacher,” and learning and enjoying and growing are not. It’s worth your time.
BOOK REVIEWS FOR PORSCHEPHILES by Bruce Herrington, Orange Coast Region
PORSCHE 944 1983 thru 1989 All SOHC engine models
PORSCHE 944 1983 thru 1989 All SOHC engine models, by Larry Warren, Chaun Muir and John H. Haynes, published 1990 by Haynes North America, Newbury Park, CA.
N
ot mentioned, even in the subtitle, is the fact this manual is fully applicable to the 924S cars.
There are lots of different reasons why people engage in do-it-yourself auto mechanics. One reason is to save money. Porsche service is particularly expensive. Porsche service is particularly inconvenient because of the Corporate policy of centralized warehousing and delivery of parts, with a minimum of parts on hand at the dealerships. But for those inclined to service their own Porsche’s to save money, it seems counter-productive to spend a small fortune on Porsche Shop Manuals. There are a number of aftermarket shop manuals for Porsches. The Bentley manuals are much less expensive than the factory manuals, but still not really cheap. They are treasure-troves of data – option codes, fault codes, color codes, etc., but not so much of a guide to hands on work. Wayne Dempsey’s books have established a new standard of excellence for shop manual type publications, but only apply to 911/Boxsters, and what are becoming ‘early’ ones at that. Clymer and Haynes have published manuals for a wide variety of vehicles, including a range of Porsche models. In the past couple decades, Porsches have become so complex that most repair or tuning work is not appropriate for do-ityourselfers. Early Porsches, most notably the 356s, have become so expensive that they tend to be professionally maintained as show cars, or are garage queens which require little maintenance or repair. At the very bottom of the Porsche price ladder are the 4-cylinder water pumpers, the 924s and 944s. These are the Porsches cars that attract the automotive hobbyists of the Porsche fold.
PORSCHE 944 contains 12 chapters and an extensive section of semi-pictorial wiring diagrams, easier to read than Porsche’s common ground/buss diagrams where components tend to be arranged more by function than by location in the vehicle. There is an extensive index, but it is somewhat awkward to use since there is no specific entry for “Belts” or “Timing.” Information on ‘timing belts’ is found under “Camshaft” and under “Balance.” The Haynes book is printed on matte paper, degrading the sharpness of the black & white images, most of which are sufficiently close-up that one can usually understand what is being done. Tricks of the trade are included, using home-shop level tools. Diagnostic tricks are presented to avoid doing trial and error replacement. There are also useful sketches to illustrate specific bits of information and the book starts out with three ‘overhead’ orientation photos of the engine compartment, suspension and driveline, with individual components labeled. . This manual does a good job of showing how to do things, not just what to do. Forty pages of text are devoted to engine repair which few hobbyists are likely to perform. The engine section does present a detailed description of an unusually cautious approach for replacing timing belts without getting into trouble. On these ‘interference engines’, timing belt replacement is a critical item of maintenance. PORSCHE 944 I contains 219, 8-1/2 x 11 inch matte pages, with a great number of photographs and diagrams. No 944 (or 924S) owner should be without one. It is probably not available at your local auto parts store, but Amazon Books offers it for approximately $25.
