Frank’s Travels After a short stay in the area around Napier I decided that after 3 weeks of driving I was now beginning to get fed up with my own company. Not having someone to share the driving meant that I was missing out on seeing a lot of the magnificent scenery that this lovely country has to offer so I made myself a promise that next time I visited NZ I would definitely hire a camper van, and have a travelling companion to share the driving. As the weather was starting to get quite a bit cooler as autumn approached ( autumn in NZ being spring in the UK) I decided to start heading in the direction of Auckland, and get myself booked on to a flight back to England. As I studied my map, courtesy of the NZ tourist board, I decided to detour off to the west and go north via Hamilton. This route would take me near the Waitomo caves which lie south-west of Hamilton, and I had been told by some locals that the caves were really worth a visit. With my route now firmly fixed in my head I set off: It was a beautiful crisp autumn morning as I drove north-west up past the western extreme of Lake Taupo, and again I was reminded of the need for a co-driver at times like this as the scenery in this area is absolutely stunning. It was early afternoon when I finally arrived at Waitomo, and the caves, like every other tourist attraction in

NZ, were very clearly signposted. After parking my car I was pleased to note that as it was mid-week there was only a very short queue at the entrance so it was just a short wait until my group was led off by a very knowledgeable young woman who was to be our guide. Our guide was an absolute mine of information, and on top of keeping the people in the group totally riveted with her way of describing the history and formation of the caves, she also had a wicked sense of humour. I don't know about you guys but I always had a problem at school remembering the difference between Stalagmites, and Stalactites: My quandary of many years was so easily resolved by our guide, and it was a lesson I haven't forgotten. She asked if I had heard the saying,"Ants in your pants"? I certainly had as my mother had accused me of that when I was forever fidgeting, and with a smile she said,"Just remember Mites Up, Tights (tites) Down"!!! How simple is that?? The tour of Waitomo caves finished off yet another brilliant day so now it was off towards Hamilton to find a place to eat, and a motel to spend the night before the final leg of my journey to Auckland. That's all for now so until the next time watch how you go, stay healthy, and enjoy living........ Frank

I have always loved quotes and find that I use them often because they get straight to the point and convey a powerful message: “We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak”, Epictetus, Greek sage and philosopher. For some clients coming to counselling and being actively listened to can be quite overwhelming and something that they haven’t had much experience of in their lifetime. To be truly listened to in a non-judgemental and empathic way can be a really meaningful experience. Is it any wonder that many times clients say “I’ve never told anyone this before” quite possibly because they didn’t feel they would genuinely be heard or understood without judgement. Communication is fundamental in maintaining a good healthy relationship and marital conflict could be readily resolved with some active listening by both parties. Active listening can be quite a challenge and is not actually as easy as you may suppose; many people will consider that they are good listeners but listening isn’t an innate ability for many of us. Effective listening is a skill that we can develop and for this reason there are countless workshops and books on the subject of developing useful listening skills. When couples are experiencing difficulties with communication quite often therapists will recommend a task whereby each partner takes 10 minutes to talk about any issues that either partner considers are interfering with the wellbeing of the relationship. Alternatively, you may wish to talk about a less emotive subject for this first listening exercise. Partner 1 talks for 10 minutes and partner 2 listens silently for 10 minutes without interrupting or trying to interpret (unless to clarify) or allowing yourself to be distracted by thinking about your

Local counsellor Julia Meanwell, has been in practice for over 20 years, she has a wealth of experience, empathy and understanding to offer clients. Julia began her counselling career as a relationship counsellor with Relate which incorporated working in television and radio. response to what is being said. Then partner 2 talks for 10 minutes without interruption. Once you have both had your time for talking you take 5 minutes each to reflect back (without adding your own opinions or reactions) of what has been said, but rather to summarise what has been understood from what has been communicated. Become a better listener for your partner and be mindful of your body language; if you are not listening with an open mind and heart this will soon be picked up. Effective listening takes practice, patience and deep concentration; when you and your partner feel genuinely listened to you will notice you are more likely to empathise with each other and not let any future conflicts reach crisis level. If you would like to find out more about the counselling Julia offers then please take a look at her website www. juliameanwellcounselling.co.uk she can be contacted by email Julia.meanwell@gmail.com or give her a call on: 07714 280083.

Ask Eve

www.evepeacock-visions.co.uk

Eve Peacock is an internationally renowned Clairvoyant Tarot Reader and Palmist and has appeared many times on TV inc. ITV's "This Morning" She lives in Eastbourne, and is available for telephone readings. You can contact Eve on: 01323 643220 If you have a problem for Eve please email info@ evepeacock-visions.co.uk with a photo and your d.o.b. Your full name and photo will not appear in the column. Please make your question short and concise. Problems can only be answered on this page. Dear Eve My mother died when I was 4 years old and I have only vague memories of her. My dad re-married again and my childhood wasn't happy. I have a lovely fiancĂŠe and am about to get married for the second time and my life is good now, but I still feel angry sometimes and feel I missed out on a lot even though it was such a long time ago. Can you tell me a bit about my mum? David, Hastings age 52 Hi David Your mother is your Spirit Guide and I also get a grandmother coming through for you though I think she is on your father's side of the family. Your mum is lovely, she has a slight Irish accent and had a pretty tough childhood herself. There is a feeling of real poverty as she was growing up but I think there was a lot of love. Manners were very important to her and also she was very particular about things. Everything had to be in its place and she was very house proud. She is so sad to have left you when you were so young but she has taken care of you from the Spirit World. She likes your fiancĂŠe and is pleased about the decision to marry. Your mum does want you to let

go of your anger and stop feeling victimised by your childhood because it has made you the strong, caring man you are now. Dear Eve, My daughter Cheryl and her family are desperate to emigrate to Australia. They have filled out the relevant applications and are waiting to hear. She is a nurse and her husband is a part-qualified accountant. They have two children, my grandchildren, Ben 7 and Emily 9. Can you see any problems? Also they want to sell their house before they go. Is that a good idea? We will miss them desperately but feel it will be a better quality of life for them and the children as they have really struggled here in the last few years. My twin sister, her aunt has been living there for 17 years. Cheryl is Scorpio and I am Gemini with Scorpio rising. Lorna, Battle Dear Lorna It's fascinating to me that you know enough about Astrology to know your rising sign/ ascendant. I'm also sun sign Scorpio and it makes you very determined. I have been asked about emigration numerous times especially in the last 3 years presumably to do with the recession though of course the recession is global. Yes, actually I can see them being allowed to go which is unusual for most of those readings I have done concerning this issue. I see this has been a two year process for them and it has been approached with a lot of research and preparation. What I would say is do they have to sell their house? My Tarot is saying that it would be better to keep the property and let it out. They would then have an income and an investment in the future. It will give a feeling of security also for those first few months when everything will feel disorientating in Australia. With or without the property in the equation I can see a positive response very soon and an opportunity to go in July next year. Best of Luck to them !

Delight the senses with a visit to Arlington Bluebell Walk Breathe in the scents and sights of spring at Arlington Bluebell Woods near Hailsham from 17 April to 18 May which is open every day. Walkers of all ages will have plenty of room to stretch their legs over the 23 acre woodland site, one of the most spectacular carpets of native bluebells in the UK. The Arlington Bluebell Walk, which takes in three working farms, has been delighting countryside lovers and raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for Sussex charities since it first opened in 1972. There are seven different walks to try, including the graveled Blue Walk, which gives access to mobility scooters, wheelchairs and push chairs. Mobility scooters are also available to borrow free of charge. Seventeen charities will take part in the 2014 event, fund raising for their different causes by providing food and drink to walkers. To date, the Arlington Bluebell Walk has raised more than £500,000 ( today's value) for 60 local causes since the attraction opened to the public 42 years ago. John McCutchan, who farms the land there and created the Bluebell Walk, said: “Bluebells signify that spring has well and truly arrived and warmer weather is on its way. A woodland walk among a carpet of bluebells is an experience to delight all the senses – from the scent of the native bluebell to the crunch underfoot of old autumn leaves and birdsong up above. The Arlington Bluebell Walk has walks and activities which allow people of all ages and physical abilities to experience this stunning natural phenomenon.” The fleeting beauty of the spring bluebells has inspired writers, such as the Bronte sisters, and artists for generations. Photographers are encouraged to capture the sea of blue in the annual Arlington Bluebell Walk Photographic Competition. The winning entry will be featured on the front of the 2015 attraction

leaflet and entries from 2013 will be on display. Artists can take part in the Paint Me a Bluebell competition and there is also a children’s quiz with prizes awarded by the National Farmers Union. The quizzes are based on the different colour coded walks. Visitors can also learn more about dairy farming and get up close to farm animals with pens of pigs, angora goats, sheep and baby chicks. At neighbouring Parkwood Farm, the milking of the large herd can be seen from a special viewing gallery every afternoon between 3pm and 5pm. The Bluebell Farm Shop which is normally open Fridays and Saturdays from 9.30pm to 5pm will be open every day the Bluebell Walk is open from 11.00am and is the main outlet for locally produced beef, lamb, chicken and turkey reared by John McCutchan’s son in law Michael Vine. ( Formally of Ersham Farm in Hailsham) The Farm Shop is a foodies’ paradise, stocked with a tastebud-tantalising selection of ingredients for a spectacular dish prepared with the minimum of food miles. Farmer’s wife Philippa Vine is a professional cook and food writer and has a passion for locally sourced quality ingredients. The shop will stock a mouth watering range of homemade sausages, pies, tarts and delicious cakes. Quality essentials such as olive and flavoured oils, vinegars, spices, herbs, coffee, rice, pasta, pulses, flour and local free range eggs will also be available. For those wanting the ultimate takeaway after their walk, Philippa offers a pre-order service, where countryside lovers can pick up tarts, cakes, casseroles, and pies after their visit. Philippa also offers cookery tuition in her farmhouse kitchen on a one to one basis, or with a friend. You can telephone 07896742454 or email orders@bluebellfarmshop.co.uk

Craniosacral Therapy - Golden Times Review by Debby Having suffered from back pain for many years, & having tried a variety of therapies, I was intrigued by the prospect of visiting Emma Ross to try Craniosacral Therapy. The treatment, which took place in a beautiful, warm room, is non-invasive and doesn't require you to remove your clothing. The therapy itself was gentle and involved Emma placing her hands on my body and sensing the tensions while helping to release them in a relaxing and comfortable way. The session of therapy enabled Emma to identify a number of different issues with my back which needed to be resolved. I found the whole experience very calming and left quite relaxed and a little emotional. I found the experience very beneficial, I will certainly be seeing Emma again.

FOLLOWING MY OWN ADVICE

There are certain times in each of our lives when we have to take stock and make some tough decisions. We realise that things have to change. I found myself in this position recently when I moved from a large 5-bedroomed house to a small "bijou" flat. With the children gone and our work commitments more flexible, my husband and I decided to downsize in a BIG way. Now, I'm a woman with a lot of shoes. And a lot of handbags. And luggage. And scarves. And jewellery. And hats.... get the picture? Unfortunately our gorgeous little apartment came with lovely high ceilings and beautiful cornices, but absolutely no storage, so there were some tough decisions to be made. Luckily, anyone who follows this column knows that I'm an expert in decluttering. Except that I'm not. I'm just good at talking about it. But now I had to pay heed to my own advice. So the wardrobes were emptied and the piles were sorted Sell, Give Away, Toss Out. My "sell" pile was pretty big. During my corporate career I spent a LOT of money on clothes so surely they were worth something. I put 3 things on ebay which were unworn and only a year or so old. I waited for the money to roll in. It was hell. It took heaps of time and I made around £10. My heart just wasn't in it. I decided that I would give it all away.

All my suits from my corporate days went. My gorgeous cocktail dresses and tuxedo jackets. The shawls, scarves and wraps which are just perfect for an evening at the opera (!!) were added to the pile. The outdated boots and shoes overflowed from boxes. I called everyone I knew who was a size 8 or a size 4 shoe and begged them to take stuff. And then I packed it all up and made several trips to the St Michael's Hospice Donation Centre. It thought it would be difficult to let everything go and there were times I felt sad but mostly I felt liberated and lighter. It also made me realise that fashion is not an investment. Fashion is transient and moves very fast. What is expensive today is worthless tomorrow. But that doesn't mean one shouldn't value it. What we wear says so much about us. What I've learnt from this experience is that I need to be more relaxed about moving on and leaving the past behind. With little opportunity for hoarding, I'll be living a much more "streamlined" life. Michèle Want to find out more? Could you make a difference to someone’s life? Pictured are Terri and Dale from Hailsham, with Fiona, Services Coordinator for Wealden, Eastbourne and Lewes In October 2013 local charity the Association of Carers received 3 years of funding from East Sussex County Council to expand their Respite & Befriending Service into Wealden, Eastbourne and Lewes. By the end of 2014 we aim to be helping 100 unpaid Carers in the area. We need your help to make this happen. Here is the story of a Carer that we met recently, who is now benefitting from support provided by our volunteers: Following a tragic fall in 2007, Terri became a fulltime unpaid Carer for her husband Dale. Terri said: “Dale fell six feet while working in a quarry, sending shock waves through his spine and leaving him with Neuropraxia. He used to be extremely physically active; a personal trainer, swimming teacher, life-saving coach and loved cycling, now he is only able to walk 40 yards and suffers constant pain”. Dale says he couldn’t cope without the loving care of his wife, who he describes as ‘amazing’ for how she has looked after him and the family. Terri said: “It’s been a massive change, I used to work and was very independent, going out to see friends a lot, now if I go out for 5 minutes I rush back because I am worrying about him having an accident”.

Like many unpaid carers, Terri suffers from depression and the Association of Carers Respite and Befriending Service gives her the opportunity to enjoy a worry-free, three hour break each week, while a carefully chosen volunteer spends time chatting with Dale. Terri said: “I can plan to see a friend and look forward to doing something for myself, which helps my mood”. Terri is also receiving the Association’s telephone support service, which provides carers with a regular phone call and the opportunity to discuss their caring role in confidence. Dale is so impressed by the Association of Carers that he is becoming a volunteer for the charity himself, offering telephone support to Carers. There are 60,000 unpaid Carers in East Sussex and 3 in 5 people will become a Carer at some point in their lives. Carers save the economy £119 billion per year; the entire cost of running the NHS. The Association of Carers needs to recruit 70 volunteers by August this year. Our volunteering roles include: Befriender, Telephone Support, Computer Help at Home, Driver and Fundraiser. If you are interested in finding out more about these roles, please give our Volunteer Coordinator, Nadia a call on 0300 330 9498. If you are a Carer and would like to find out more about our services, please call us on 0300 330 9498.

Tricia’s Column

lowers erupting into bloom, blossom on the trees, baby lambs frolicking in the fields, birds singing in the trees, shops full of egg-shaped chocolate and Mothers Day around the corner, It's good to see Spring back again after a particularly grotty winter (though I did manage to avoid a couple of weeks of it by getting on a plane to Egypt...) and it's good to be back in the pages of Golden Times again after being cut from the January issue! I am sure you were all distraught to find me missing from the last issue. With the flora bursting into life again and the fauna producing remarkably cute, miniature versions of themselves it's a fantastic time of year to drag the grandchildren out into the fresh air. Wellies, anoraks and spare clothes are essential of course but fresh air is definitely on the menu. With everything from rockpools to woodlands to explore in Sussex we're certainly not short of options. As usual our sister publication The Family Buzz (Pictured here) is at hand to provide child-friendly ideas for any of you who may be looking after their offspring at the weekends or in the Easter Break. Make sure you keep an eye out for a copy.

Later Life Planning - A Case Study In the January edition IFA and Long Term Care Consultant, Natalie Ringwood, wrote as to how Later Life Planning has changed over the past decades and why it is so important to carefully plan in order to meet changing objectives and concerns. In this edition Natalie talks through a recent case study which highlights challenging planning issues and how she was able to overcome them. David and Jane were a happy couple until 4 years ago when David was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Initially David was classed as being in the early stages but over the next few years he has become increasingly agitated and frustrated with his loss of memory. He now finds it increasingly difficult in dressing and performing personal hygiene and this has resulted in increasing loss of confidence and isolation. A year after David was first diagnosed, Jane was injured in a car crash which resulted in her becoming wheelchair bound requiring their son and daughter to arrange for live in care within the family home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A meeting last spring with Jane and her daughter Susan resulted in the realisation that Jane no longer felt safe in her home and she felt vulnerable and lonely. I then arranged a long ‘heart to heart’ meeting with Susan who held Power of Attorney. It became clear that Susan was very emotional as to her parents’ difficulties. Having provided a tearful Susan with some all important emotional support, we discussed as to whether a care home would offer the best possible care solution given that there would be 24 hour care; facilities to assist their differing medical needs; daily companionship and interaction; plus nearby rooms as they had at home. I suggested that I make arrangements for Susan and I to visit some local care homes which I knew would offer a quality ‘lifestyle’ environment plus specialist facilities to deal with their respective medical conditions. Having visited three quality local care homes, Susan admitted that emotionally she had felt extremely guilty in even thinking of moving them out of their own home. I gently reminded Susan that she had to focus on their true needs to which she responded that she did understand this in practical terms and she now knew in her heart that this was the way forward.

One particular home stood out. It had very specific facilities relating to residents with dementia and paraplegia. They had a good spread of residents and the facilities were impressive including a restaurant & bar plus a small home cinema. The home was close to their home town and had a very nice quiet local pub just 50 yards away. Susan felt that all their physical and emotional needs would be fully addressed. I arranged meetings with the ‘Customer Relations Manager’ who suggested that David, Jane & Susan would come into the home to enjoy a film and lunch and then a weekend stay. This was a real success for Jane and Susan and it was agreed that the move to the care home would best meet most needs and concerns. Their only remaining concern was in trying to convey to David that they would be moving home but this would be managed as best as possible. So six months later how have things progressed? Jane feels secure for herself and senses that David is less anxious and connects better with memories of his past. Susan wanted to ensure that her parents would be able to remain in the home for the rest of their lifetimes regardless to cost. I advised her on all of her options and she subsequently asked me to purchase two Long Term Care Plans for a capital sum specifically designed to meet the monthly shortfall in the cost of their ongoing care. After the sale of their home and the purchase of the two plans, part of their remaining capital would potentially be subject to 40% Inheritance Tax and I am presently advising Susan as to how she can mitigate the future IHT whilst enjoying full access to the capital for her parents, if they so require. I hope that you can see how we are able to help with all manner of Later Life Planning concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any advice or if you would like a copy of our Care Fees Planning Handbook.

SPRING CLEAN YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN

WIN A DAY’S INTERIOR DESIGN ADVICE in your own home worth £200 Many of us find our spring clean gives us just the encouragement we need to take a fresh look at our home. Does a particular room need a revamp? Does the space really work for our changing lifestyle? Do we feel we never get the finishing touches quite right? It needn’t be expensive to get some expert advice to help make these decisions. Designer For A Day is a cost effective service offered by East Sussex based interior designer, Wendy Newman. Wendy tells us, “Lots of people want a helping hand when it comes to interior design, but they’re worried it’s going to be expensive or that an interior designer wouldn’t listen to what they want and just impose unrealistic ‘designery’ ideas.” Designer For A Day costs just £200 for six hours of advice in your own home. Wendy adds, “I really listen to what clients want and come up with ways to help them get there. That may be selecting colour schemes, rethinking furniture layout, window treatments, maximising storage or help choosing paint, wallpaper and fabrics. Often it’s helping clients choose how to spend a limited budget wisely.” Check out the website to see lots of testimonials from happy clients, photos of her work or contact Wendy on 07792301202. One lucky reader can win a Designer For A Day by answering the following: Which classic movie poster appears on Wendy’s website: www.wendynewmaninteriordesign.co.uk: A Gone With The Wind B Titanic C The Italian Job Simply pop your answer on a postcard, along with your contact details to: "Interior Design Competition" GoldenTimes, 78 Elphinstone Rd, Hastings, E Sussex TN34 2BS or via email to: win@goldentimes.co.uk. Kent & East Sussex Railway’s 40th Anniversary Gala Weekend As part of the celebrations to celebrate the 40th anniversary of reopening of the Kent & East Sussex Railway, the railway will be holding a three day gala over the late spring bank holiday weekend; 24/25/26th May 2014. As well as featuring six members of the “home” steam fleet, representing classes of engine that have run on the line since 1974, there will also be a welcome return appearance by Sentinal 0-4-0 vertical boilered tank locomotive “Gervase” – the only chance to see this unique loco in the South of England this year. ‘Gervase’ previously worked on the internal railway system at a sand pit near Redhill in Surrey and was rescued for preservation on the Kent & East Sussex Railway in the early 1960’s. The engine saw very limited use on engineering trains in the very early days of the preservation project (although was never used on passenger trains), and was subsequently sold to a private individual and comprehensively rebuilt before reentering service in 2013. It was rededicated and was a popular attraction at the K&ESR Steam Up event in May of last year Other highlights include regular shuttle services between Bodiam & Junction Road, locomotive changes at Bodiam, the first gala appearance by ex GWR 0-6-2 tank locomotive number 6619 since its arrival in late 2012, 0-6-0 Pannier Tank locomotive number 1638 in BR Black livery, heavy goods trains including “double headers” and shunting demonstrations at Tenterden

28

Passenger trains will run along the 10½ miles of restored line from Tenterden Town Station to Northiam and Bodiam throughout the event with a regular service from 10.45am until 4.00pm on all three days. In addition to a regular shuttle service over the half mile extension from Bodiam to Junction Road – the first part of the long term scheme to extend the railway to Robertsbridge and not usually used by passenger trains - there will be a through service from Tenterden to Junction Road at 10.00am on each day for which advance booking will be advisable. The Carriage & Wagon shed at Tenterden will be open allowing visitors to take a fascinating look behind the scenes and see the painstaking work that goes to restore and maintain the line’s fleet of historic coaches. From the train windows visitors will also be able to view progress on the construction of the new Carriage Storage shed South of Rolvenden. Gala prices – adult £18, Senior £15, Child £13, family £50, member £11. Two day tickets: adults £35, senior £28, child £25, member £21. Three day tickets: adult £45, senior £35, child £30, member £25. As a special offer a 3 day ticket can be purchased for the price of a 2 day ticket if booked in advance before 1st April 2014. "A Tale of Two Houses" by Rosemary Shelfer

Helen looked down as she reached her gate and saw a red diary on the pavement. Once indoors, she phoned the owner who was very pleased. He asked which address it had and she said that there were two. Keith picked the one where he lived and asked her to send it there. Keith was the son of the real diary owner and was suspicious that his father, Ralph, was having an affair. Now he could check through the private diary and see the truth of it. Marvellous. Ralph’s wife, Janet, had a phobia about birds. But the downtrodden Ralph loved birds and was a member of the local RSPB club where he regularly attended meetings and he also joined their bird-watching outings. He had to keep this secret from his wife at all costs otherwise she would feel ‘betrayed’ as Ralph had never told her he loved birds. In fact, he had pretended to dislike his feathered friends…for a peaceful life. Keith waited impatiently for the diary to arrive and avidly read through it all. He didn’t see any mention of RSPB but did see the occasional letter R which he assumed was the name of a woman. The same day as he received the diary, Keith posted it first class to his father enclosing a note pretending to be from the finder of the diary. He just about remembered to add Helen’s address in case his father wanted to write a thank you reply. Ralph was so pleased to get his diary back and within the

Eastbourne author Dorit Oliver-Wolff has brought out a booklet entitled ‘Behind The Smile - from Yellow Star to Pop Star’ containing extracts from her public speaking. The full version of her book by the same title will be published soon. Dorit, a member of Anderida Writers, is a Holocaust survivor who went on to become an international recording singer. Her booklet and speeches focus on her experiences of the Holocaust, seen through the eyes of a five-year-old Jewish girl who survived against all the odds, and her life beyond that. Dorit Oliver-Wolff Dorit, who appeared on television on BBC South East on Monday January 27th to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, gave a talk the same evening in aid of St. Wilfrid’s Hospice at The Kings Centre, Eastbourne, on Monday January 27th.

More details are available on her website www.doritoliverwolff.wordpress.com

hour had posted a thank you letter to Helen. A couple of days later Ralph received a surprising letter from Helen which said that she recognised his Second address (where she sent it) as she is the Membership Secretary in charge of the RSPB. She also mentioned casually that his voice had sounded much younger on the phone from what she remembered at the RSPB meetings. Ralph was confused. “It sounds to me like you spoke to my son at HIS address,” said Ralph. It was Helen’s turn to be confused but she said nothing. Ralph was fuming as he knew Keith would have read the diary. And worse, had posted it on to Ralph pretending to be Helen! Three years later. Because Keith finally told his mother about the diary and the letter R, and his suspicions about a mistress, his mother, Janet, confronted her husband. When she said she wanted a divorce because of the R woman, he just laughed and decided to go along with it. He wasted no time in moving into his son’s house which Ralph owned anyway. Keith had never paid any rent. Ralph had great pleasure in telling his son that he intended to sell that house. So he advised Keith, with a smile on his face, that he had better go and live with his Mummy.

Last years selection of ales were superb and this year looks set to be just as good, with beers from Franklins (The main supporter of the festival), Brighton Bier Co, Burning Sky, Okells, Harveys, Two Cocks, London Fields, Hackney, Elb, Clarence & Fredericks, Late Night, By The Horns, Cronx, Brodie’s, Shamble Moose, Head In A Hat, Marbles, Red Willow, and Tiny Rebel. There will also be a cider bar with a range of farm ciders to sample too! To keep you entertained while choosing which beer to sample next, live music is also on offer, with "The

Exiles" on the Friday evening from 7pm, "No Exit" on Saturday from 11.30am to 3pm, and "Howlin Blues" on Saturday evening from 7pm. Entry to the event is £7.50 on Friday night, £6.50 for the Saturday afternoon and £8 for the Saturday evening session. As well as having a great time, attendees will also be benefiting charities as ALL profits from the Festival will go to St. Michael’s Hospice, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, and other Rotary charities. Tickets can be booked on the De La Warr Pavilion website www.dlwp.com or you can call the booking line 01424 229111. For all the information on the Festival, log on to www.bexhillbeerfestival.com. Bexhill Rotarian Colin Stutely who is the event organiser said, “The Festival is going to be bigger and better this year and we’re looking forward to welcoming lots of people who want to enjoy the wide range of beers and ciders on offer as well as enjoying the live music from three very good bands.” You can reach Colin to find out more about what he has planned on 01424 846444 or email either aleandartybex@gmail.com or info@bexhillbeerfestival.com. I chose Callenders Restaurant when my Nephew took me out for my birthday, because “some occasions deserve better than a pub lunch”, White Bait I laughed. He agreed, Callenders is just so relaxed and spacious and the polite friendly staff never rush you. The menu of all British food has many of our favourites. Including steaks and fresh fish. And when did you last see rabbit pie on a menu? It was fantastic. We were so impressed, we decided this would be the perfect venue for the anniversary do. Warm, friendly, quality and Liver and Bacon value for money. Everyone will love it. No wonder Diner’s choice magazine said : “ Discover A True Gem of a Restaurant.” …..and now you can, with this exclusive readers offer, enjoy £10 off any table of 4 or more booked in March or April. Or enjoy 2 courses for £6.50 Mon-Fri Lunch time. Banoffee Pie
