Everyone at Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice would like to invite people across the county to come and see for themselves what a wonderful place it is and learn about the specialist care we provide for children and young people with life-limiting and lifethreatening illnesses. On Friday 4 and Saturday 5 October 2013, we will be throwing open our doors and everybody is welcome. There will be tours of the House, taking in the youngsters’ favourites like the hydrotherapy pool and multi-sensory room, plus a chance to meet the nurses and care workers who do such a wonderful job looking after the children and families. This year, the Open Days are extra special because we are celebrating our 10th birthday. When we first opened in November 2003, we were caring for just 30 children. Now, we expect to be caring for around 300 children in our 10th birthday year. During our first decade, we have seen a tremendous increase in demand for our care and have introduced our Oncology and Neonatal services. We have also expanded our Community Team and now have nurses providing care in the families’ own homes across East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire. However, for every child currently being cared for, there is another child somewhere in our locality that we are not yet reaching due to lack of funding. Families are never charged for their care but this specialist service costs almost £3 million each year and the hospice receives hardly any government funding. Without the support of the people of Sussex, Chestnut Tree House would not be able to keep its doors open so the Open Days are a fantastic opportunity for us to show you what your generosity has achieved and to say thank you. There’s no need to book and parking and refreshments are available on both days. Just come along between 10am and 4pm, see for yourself what a special place Chestnut Tree House is and find out how you can help your local children’s hospice. Walking for Health -

Frank’s Travels

Your local weekly walk diary

My flight from Cook Island to Auckland was quite uneventful, and processing through Customs, and Immigration was really painless. The friendliness of the officials was impressive, and kind of got me in the right frame of mind for things to come. It was when I got to the arrivals hall that I made my first mistake: I rented a car when in fact I should have rented a camper van. What I didn't know at this stage was that throughout New Zealand there is an abundance of motels, and parking areas for camper vans. The Kiwi's seem to be geared for an almost transient tourist industry, and visitors are encouraged to see as much of the country as possible during their stay. I had already planned to travel south to Lake Taupo where I intended to establish a base camp, so after collecting my car I hit the highway, and off I went. One of the first things that becomes apparent to a visitor to New Zealand is the lack of traffic. Driving was an absolute pleasure, and of course they are civilized enough to drive on the left. The abundance of space is probably due to the fact that the country has a land mass similar to the UK, but only has a population of just over 4 million. They aren't joking when they say there are more sheep than people!! A few hours later I rolled into Taupo, and headed for the Tourist Information Centre where the helpful staff recommended a nearby motel that fitted my budget. As I intended stopping a few days here I quickly unpacked my backpack, and took myself off to walk to the lake: OMG what an amazing place. What I never knew was Lake Taupo is about the size of Singapore which, if my memory ( ?? ) serves me right, is about 450 square miles. The scenery was wonderful, and the view from where I was standing by the lake side was stunning. The lake is a major attraction for Kiwi's as well as tourists, and it is a very popular watersports centre so I found myself wandering for quite a distance along the road which ran parallel with the lake fascinated by the number of enthusiastic watersports addicts who were so obviously enjoying themselves. It was only after I noticed that dusk was fast approaching that I looked back to where I had started and thought "Oh blimey". Yes I had walked much further than I intended, and now I had a long walk back. Ever wonder how many times you have done that?? Anyway, back near my motel I spotted a remedial font which was advertising an evening BBQ. That will do for me I thought, and promptly entered and found myself in a bar with a lovely atmosphere, and live music. The BBQ set up was brilliant: What you had to do was go to the bar, order a pint, and buy a plate.....yes that's right buy a plate. The plate cost $6 and you then simply took your plate outside to the BBQ area where you could help yourself to meat and salad......Brilliant!! So ended my first day in this lovely country. Got lots more to write about so until the next time watch how you go, stay healthy, and enjoy living... Frank

We needed you then, so why is it that you sometimes feel as a Veteran that you are redundant or not needed now. Do you sometimes feel angry, sad, resentful, unable to think clearly? Is it difficult to talk to people about your service and what happened? PTSD or post traumatic stress is something that many servicemen and women suffer from. It used to be called shell shock but now we know that it is a recognisable dis-ease. As a therapist working with PTSD daily, I have found a special interest in using EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique with my clients with outstanding results. Originally trained in psychology and psychotherapy I realised that we can indeed talk about our problems until the cows come home, which most definitely helps but it doesn't clear the trauma that is held within the body, in fact within the cells. Our cells have a memory. What I mean by that is when we have a shock or trauma it is held within the cells as a memory. The neural pathways in our brain then respond by triggering back to flight or fight response from our early brain development. They take us back to the first time we had a feeling of fear. What EFT does is clears the trauma and clears the pathways in the brain creating new ones. We no longer feel the way we did about the memory. The memory remains after EFT but the intensity reduces. In other words the trigger, the fear and the response. So what is EFT, you ask? Emotional Freedom Technique is a bit like psychological acupuncture but without the needles. By tapping on certain points on the face and body and using phrases to reframe the experience, the mind and body now feel safe. It seems very simple but i have found it to be the fastest and most effective way to release trauma. As I said, you can talk till the cows come home but releasing the trauma, is the key. John, a veteran serving on HMS Sheffield came to me with high

levels of PTSD recorded symptoms from an assessment at Combat Stress. He had suffered for over 30 yrs. As we started our session, he tried to tell me what had happened that day when the Sheffield was hit. As he told me, his heart beat faster and faster when he approached what he told me was the most terrifying moment. The door was shut, his mates were behind it, he knew that they were in trouble, he could hear their screams. Under the floor his feet were burning from the heat. As he recounted this part of his story, I tapped on him, gently talking to him, reframing the experience and releasing the trauma. After 90 minutes of releasing, reframing and recounting his story, he was able to do so without emotion, without fear and without his voice shaking. He was indeed truly emotionally free. John requested another session for a telephone appointment as he lived in Wales but a few minutes into the session we realised that he really didn't need it. He had cleared his PTSD in one session. John tells me that he does use the technique if he needs it but it’s rarely. He is thankful that he does not have to suffer anymore. My work has led me to research the causal reasons for PTSD and I am very excited to be presenting this at the Veterans Conference in Portsmouth this September. It is my intention to make sure that every veteran gets the help they need, that there is no need to suffer and that life can be fulfilling again. EFT can be used on any emotional or physical problems not just PTSD. I work on the South Coast and in London. I also offer telephone and Skype sessions. Celebrating older people’s day – 1 October 2013 Stephen Wischhusen, resident at Celevedown sheltered housing in Lewes, East Sussex shares his story in aid of Older People’s Day. “Older people have a lot to contribute to society and not all of us should be put on the rubbish heap! I live in sheltered housing in Lewes, East Sussex which is run by a not for profit provider of housing for older people called Sussex Housing & Care. I lead an independent life here and I challenge those who think you can’t do this in sheltered housing as it’s all about supporting people to maintain their independence. When I retired in October 2011 it was easy to think I could sit back and not do much. I decided this was not how I wanted to spend my days so I now thrive on having a busy diary and being involved in the local community of Lewes. I became an Independent Councillor on the Town Council so I could have an influence on local amenities and people’s quality of life. I give as much time as I can to this and most months I attend two formal meetings as well as dealing with local issues. I’ve learnt to allow at least an hour and a half to walk through the town as so many people stop and chat to me in the street. I don’t think my distinctive stripy blazers make me inconspicuous! I also take pleasure in looking after a number of flower beds in the town, planting and watering them which keeps me active and is something I very much enjoy.

14

In fact, my activities with the local community has meant that I am doing more walking than ever before and as I’m a diabetic, this has helped me tremendously and meant I have reduced my medication. I was very surprised to be elected as a chair of Sussex Housing & Care’s residents’ council which is a gathering of resident representatives from across their sites and gives us older people the opportunity to feedback and improve on the service we receive. I enjoy being able to meet new people at this forum. I am a keen user of my mobile phone as I am seldom at home, and having both a facebook account and my email address helps me to keep in touch with everyone. I check my emails at least once a day and have recently found that I’m using the internet to keep abreast of the daily news more than listening to the news on the radio which I’ve always done! People don’t just hibernate and give up when they move to sheltered housing, we are leaders of our own destiny and have the choice to keep both mentally and physically active and I, along with many others have chosen to make the most of my retirement. Older people’s day is a great opportunity to celebrate older people’s successes and contributions and most importantly, helps younger people to appreciate and learn from the older generation.

Sussex charity seeks special volunteer

Live well and forget your worries with Abbeyfield South Downs

Enjoy independence, with support and companionship when needed, in our houses in Eastbourne, Heathfield, Hove and St Leonards-on-Sea. Your own room, shared lounge and dining room, heating, lighting and home-cooked meals - all for around £1,000 a month. *The only extra cost would be a personal telephone.

Call Linda Francis to learn more: 01323 733280 or email us: abbeyeast@supanet.com visit: www.abbeyfield.com/south-downs Registered office: Abbeyfield South Downs Ltd, Beamsley House, 47 Silverdale Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN20 7AT. Registered charity no: 216799, company: 736150, HCA: HO375.

The charity Abbeyfield South Downs, which provides sheltered accommodation in four Sussex towns and is planning major developments to take account of the changing needs of older people, is seeking a company secretary. The present company secretary Jimmy Blake-Dyke, a retired solicitor from Eastbourne, is stepping down from the voluntary role on the advice of his doctor following a bout of illness. Abbeyfield South Downs chairman Michael Staff, from Alfriston, who has been heavily involved with the charity since retiring 20 years ago, said the organisation makes a huge difference to the lives of lonely, frail and vulnerable older people. His own financial expertise, gained through a banking career, has been invaluable to the society and he has filled many voluntary roles over the years, including that of national chairman. Now he hopes a volunteer with legal expertise will join the friendly board of trustees of Abbeyfield South Downs at a time when major decisions are being made about developments to cater for the changing needs of older people. Abbeyfield South Downs has 28 paid staff and 27 volunteers working in eight sheltered houses in Eastbourne, Heathfield, Hove and St Leonards. New volunteers are always welcome. Mr Staff said the role of company secretary is a vital and rewarding one and the person taking over from Mr BlakeDyke would play a full part in transforming the lives of lonely older people who benefit from living in the charity’s comfortable sheltered accommodation where home-cooked meals are provided and where support and companionship are available when needed. If you would like to know more about joining Abbeyfield South Downs as company secretary please contact Michael Staff on 01323 870610 or by email at staff2@supanet.com. Acupuncture is an ancient natural medicine system from the East. It is currently becoming more popular in the UK. This is because it works! Acupuncture works with the body as an integrated whole, and helps most types of disease. As well as being a powerful pain relief, it is also effective in improving most other functions of the body such as digestion, breathing, hormonal balance and also the mind and emotions. Once people try it they often use this powerful medicine as an energy-boost, "MOT" every so often to keep them in good health. Julia has thirteen years of experience working with acupuncture, and brings a caring and gentle approach to her work. She also offers Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture treatment. Julia is a member of the British Acupuncture Council.

SICK AND TIRED OF FEELING SICK AND TIRED?

3 TOP TIPS TO GET THE SPRING BACK IN YOUR STEP

1 Take a look inside your fridge – have you left the art of cooking behind you? Relying on ready meals? Cutting corners with sauces? Lazy dinners? Nothing beats a Roast Chicken, or a slow cooked Beef Stew – go on – COOK REAL AGAIN. Less Fat, Less Salt, Less Sugar in your diet and you’ll feel dandy in no time. Remember VEGETABLES? They aren’t a garnish! Eat LOADS. 2 Can you sit on the floor like you used to? Do you heave yourself off the sofa? Lean on the coffee table to plug the hoover in? Sounds like your body has got a bit RUSTY and whilst oil works nicely on a shed door - Pilates is a better option for us to get mobile again. Slow, controlled, supervised and almost always lying down on a mat – it’s a relaxing way for all ages and conditions to improve mobility. 3 Stressed, unhappy, anxious, snacking, processed food or bad sleeping habits all create hormone peaks in your body such as over production of insulin, adrenalin or cortisol – all quite toxic, and contributes to ‘bellyfat’. Take some TIME OUT for YOU, bed by 10.30, and ask for help if you are struggling with ANYTHING causing you anxiety.

If you are a regular reader of this article (I live in hope!) you'll know I'm always banging on about the benefit of having a well-defined style. But how do you go about making changes to become more stylish? Here are my 6 top tips: 1. Commit to change. Once you are sure you want to enhance your personal style, make a commitment. (It's just like making a commitment to lose weight or go to the gym - but much more fun.) Tell yourself you are fed up with that person in the mirror and you are going to change. Then tell other people. Ask for their help. Ignore people who maintain they "love you as you are". They'll still love the more stylish you! 2. Understand your motivation. Ask yourself why you want to change. Is it to impress others or to feel better about yourself. You are much more likely to succeed if it's the latter. 3. Be specific. You need to know what you are aiming for. Perhaps you want to wear more colour. Which colours specifically? Maybe it's all about quality and fit. You could find a tailor who can make your department-store clothes look made-to-measure. 4. Eliminate Barriers and make it easy for yourself. Sort your wardrobe and drawers. Make a list of things you need in your wardrobe and, again, be specific. If you need a pair of "shiny brown ankle boots with a 2 inch heel", write that on your list. If a "light blue long silk scarf" will change your life, then make sure that is what you get. 5. Act confident. Changing your appearance takes confidence so prepare yourself by wearing your new look around the

More people cycling, more often, more safely.

Got a bike gathering dust? Learnt as a child and have now lost confidence? Never learnt to ride at all? Well it’s never too late to enjoy the fun, freedom and fitness cycling can bring. Denise Lomas, experienced cyclist and former Cycle Proficiency Instructor for Kent County Council, set up CycleSafe 7 years ago with her mission to get “more people cycling, more often and more safely”. Her cycle training business has been going from strength to strength and since the Olympics she’s had more over 50s than ever wanting to learn or regain their confidence. Denise delivers the new modern national standard Bikeability training scheme which was developed by a group of experts and organistions including RoSPA, British Cycling and Department of Transport. The Syllabus consists of 3 levels of training which progress a cyclist from basic bike control skills (beginner) to complex on-road manoeuvres (advanced). Denise offers private lessons for up to 2 people or can organise training for groups and organisations. She hires out school playgrounds for beginners at Bikability level 1 and uses quiet residential areas for level 2 when trainees are ready for the road. Cyclists who are already making simple journeys but want help in managing more complicated traffic situations, can look at taking level 3 training. Cycling is a low impact exercise - kinder on your joints than running and other high impact aerobic activities. Studies have also shown that regular cyclists enjoy the general health of someone approximately 10 years younger! So what are you waiting for? Visit www.cycletrainingsoutheast.co.uk for more information.

A WELL-DEFINED STYLE

house for a while. Go to new places with new people who don't know the "old" you. They won't notice changes like your friends will. When your friends comment, thank them for noticing but change the subject. You don't need them dissecting your look when you are just getting used to it. 6. Just Get Started. If you're not sure where to start, focus on getting one outfit which fits perfectly and which makes you feel fabulous. Then hold off on the rest of the wardrobe. Once you realise you are wearing the same outfit again and again, you'll find it easy to overhaul your entire wardrobe.

Wedding Wisdom

p Once, Twice, Three Times a Bride... …..and you’re dreading telling everyone that you’re going to walk down the aisle again, and even more so if you are over 50! But just because you are in your golden years, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all the joy and happiness a wedding can bring, as well as the fear of upsetting your children. Grown up children especially can be very judgemental and feel very threatened that you have a new partner in your life. Now a huge decision needs to be made…..what do you wear this time around? You’ve had the big swishy dress at wedding number 1 and then a long slinky one at wedding number 2, so what on earth are you going to wear for wedding number 3? Firstly, don’t be swayed by others opinions. There are no major rules about what 2nd or 3rd time brides should wear, but it’s unusual to have a veil or train. Don’t be bullied into having a “sensible” outfit, purely based on your age. If you don’t wear what you really really want, then your partner may feel that it’s not that important to you and you’ll regret it every time you look at the photographs. It may be your second or third time wedding, but your partner may be a wedding virgin, so don’t reuse any element of previous weddings – this is the ideal opportunity to make a truly fresh start and enjoy the day all over again.

YOUR WEDDING PA Providing Administration Support to the Wedding Industray and Brides to Be Whether you are a bride to be, or a wedding related business, we are there for you. For brides, we can help with advice, assistance or inspiration for ideas on design, where to shop for outfits & ensuring that you get the day of your dreams within your budget. For the business, we will be involved in the administration tasks which are threatening to take over and thereby reduce the time you have to concentrate on what you do best - creating tasty cakes, planning unique floral arrangements, designing spectacular wedding dresses and helping to build your business. So bride or business - simply email the team to see how we can help you at: info@yourweddingpa.co.uk or check out our facebook page: www.facebook.com/yourweddingpersonalassistant

Mother of the Bride - The role of a lifetime Congratulations are in order as your daughter has announced she is getting married and you are going to help her with the biggest day of her life…. but you’ve got absolutely no idea what to wear. Just remember there’s only one rule – don’t upstage the bride! As one of the main people in the wedding party – it will be important to work with the bride, bridesmaids and the Mother of the Groom to ensure that a co-ordinated look will work well for the photographs, plus the overall colour scheme and theme of the whole wedding – don’t strike out on your own! Let them know what you plan to wear as this will avoid clashing of colours or heaven forbid – you turn up in the same outfit as the MotG!!

20

Another thing to remember is to avoid cream or white, unless of course, the bride requests it. Also as the Mother of the Bride, it would be very tasteless to wear an outfit that is too slinky or revealing too much cleavage. You will probably be rushing around through the day so think about comfort as well as looking good. Even as the MotB, you have a big fashion decision to make and you can have lots of fun making them. You don’t need to stick to beige and a big hat – there are lots of stylish suits and dresses to choose from – the fashion world is your oyster! Ask Eve

www.evepeacock-visions.co.uk

Eve Peacock is an internationally renowned Clairvoyant Tarot Reader and Palmist and has appeared many times on TV inc. ITV's "This Morning" She lives in Eastbourne, and is available for telephone readings. You can contact Eve on: 01323 643220 If you have a problem for Eve please email info@ evepeacock-visions.co.uk with a photo and your d.o.b. Your full name and photo will not appear in the column. Please make your question short and concise. Problems can only be answered on this page. Dear Eve What is the difference between Clairvoyance and Mediumship? Sarah, Hastings Hi Sarah This is my own personal viewpoint. But for me clairvoyance (clearseeing) Is when I am doing a consultation and link in with Spirit. The messages I receive then are in forms of symbols, colours etc. I sometimes become aware of my own guides and then interpret the messages they give me and also the clients guides but it tends not to be very specific who it is. I also can become clairaudient (clearhearing) and clairsentient (clear-sensing) So I get a general overview to advise the client in the best way possible. With Mediumship, for me this tends to be a specific connection with someone the client has lost eg a grandmother who has passed. Sometimes I am given an item of theirs to hold which strengthens the connection. Linking in with a loved one who has passed, can be very comforting for the client and also very rewarding for me. Dear Eve I'm at my wits end. My daughter has 3 children, my grandchildren, two of which are twin boys both Pisces, who I look after in the holidays. They turned 13 this year. Harry is the sweetest boy but Josh has become a little monster. Without

boring you with all the details suffice to say I cannot control him and nor can my daughter. He has become violent and destructive. Help! Janet, St Leonards on Sea Hi Janet I'm so sorry to hear of your problems with Josh who is a sweet boy also but is expressing himself in an aggressive way. I can see when you say destructive that he is damaging property. I feel that the other siblings, I sense a girl as well as Harry, are actualy getting scared of him which is awful for them. You must take Josh to the doctor and insist that you are taken seriously or arrange a meeting with the school who will have access to child services that are there to help you not criticise. I am not a medical professional but I feel the onset of adolescence has aggravated a problem that was already there. This is not a child just being naughty. Please tell your daughter to use all the help that is available to her. Dear Eve I am a 62 year old gentleman and have always been fascinated by psychic phenomena. This may sound a bit mad but I keep seeing the number 4 everywhere. Sometimes 44 or even 444. Is someone or something trying to give me a message or a sign? Bryan, St leonards Hi Bryan This doesn't sound mad at all and if you take a look at the internet you will see there are whole forums and web-sites on this phenomena specificaly the incidence of noticing 444. People talk about suddenly waking up and seeing 4.44am on their alarm clock for instance. Spiritual and Metaphysical teachers tell us to take note of any messages or signs we see repetitively and to notice anything you see or hear three or more times. For instance if people recommend the same book, movie or class to you, that's a sign! As to 444 this is generally seen as an Angelic message similar to seeing a white feather.

Beer barrels roll back onto site of former brewery in Hailsham Beer barrels were rolled back into the former Lynn brewery building in Hailsham for a celebration of Sussex ales organised by a care home which now occupies the redeveloped site. Care UK’s Bowes House, in Battle Road, chose to mark National Care Homes Open Day by holding the special celebration. The ale was supplied by Turners brewery a t R i n g m e r wh o are hoping soon to recreate the beer that used to be brewed by Lynns. Head brewer Rob Thomas said he had discovered a recipe and was now trying to source the right ingredients to produce an ale closely resembling that which used to be brewed on the site. Bowes House manager Alison Barner said they were delighted Turners were showing an interest in the former brewery which was commemorated in pictures in the refurbished building and also in the naming of a coffee bar within it. She looked forward to the day a

celebration of Sussex ales could include the Lynn brew. In the meantime visitors and residents had enjoyed sampling Turners Best and Golden ales, along with soft drinks and party fare. Bowes House, which has 90 beds for older people seeking personalised nursing, residential and respite care opened at the beginning of June, and there has been great interest in it from Hailsham townspeople who watched building progress. Residents are moving in and a friends’ association has been set up. Members are welcome to enjoy facilities on offer at Bowes House, including a cinema, hairdressing salon and the coffee shop, and to join in Bowes House social events. Chairperson Mary Laxton, whose mother Alma Gunston was one of the first residents to move in, said she was enjoying her role. It was particularly enjoyable for friends to meet and chat with Bowes House staff.

"The tale of two trifles" by Teresa Allen

Rosalind was not a vindictive person, but if the opportunity arose... She was at her school reunion, the class of '68, never been before, but on impulse had decided to attend. When she saw the stout woman leaning over the bowl of trifle at the buffet, then saw her name tag - Sarah Curtis - well, it was like divine retribution... Sarah Curtis had been the class bully, always teasing the other girls, particularly Rosalind who was rather dumpy and had black frizzy hair, her teens not being her finest time where looks were concerned. Fortunately her appearance had improved over the years. The final humiliation had taken place at the leaving party in 1968 when the boys from the local senior school had been invited. For once, Rosalind felt quite confident in her long dress and hair looking reasonable after spending all night in curlers (no straighteners then!) That was until she felt a slight push in the small of her back as she helped herself to trifle at the buffet and suddenly she was head first in the trifle bowl! As she peered through the pink and white goo smeared on her glasses she saw Sarah Curtis hurriedly change her smirk to a look of concern as everyone gathered round Rosalind, but not before she heard the laughter echo around the room. No one suspected Sarah with her innocent blue eyes, but Rosalind knew. Rosalind had left school the day after so had no time to pay Sarah back - until today, 45 years later! How

30

fortunate trifle was just as popular in 2013 as it was in 1968! In one movement she had slipped up behind Sarah Curtis, applied a gentle nudge to her back and hey presto she knew what the inside of a trifle bowl looked like too! The poor woman hadn't known what hit her. Rosalind crept away during the confusion that followed and drove home positively elated. Yes it had been a long time coming, but what was the saying; "Revenge is a dish best served cold" Later at home, sifting through old school photos she found one of the whole class just before they all left school. Underneath was a list of names, as she peered closer, she suddenly realised it was Susan Curtis who had made her life a misery, not Sarah Curtis who had been plain and timid she had always mixed their names up - so similar. Oh well, never mind, she still felt pleased that she had exacted some kind of revenge for the way everyone had laughed at her after all those years. Anyway, there was probably another reunion sometime, maybe Susan Curtis would be there then. As for poor old Sarah Curtis, well perhaps she had done her a favour. Maybe the trifle had improved her complexion, she's always had terrible skin...

“Love is an ice cream sundae, with all the marvellous coverings. Sex is the cherry on top”, James Dean Does your life have the cherry on the top? A recent sex survey by Saga Magazine carried out on 9,000 people over the age of 50, found that around 71% said they had a healthy sex life. Many stated that although they have sex less frequently these days they find that it is much more enjoyable than when they were younger. What constitutes a healthy sex life? There seems to be a mistaken belief that real sex has to result in full penetration when in fact many couples enjoy physical intimacy without this being the most important outcome. You may well be happy with just enjoying the sundae! We are continually bombarded by the media implying that if we are not having sex on a regular basis then there is something wrong with us and/or the relationship. This is definitely not the case, whether you and your partner have regular sex or none at all so long as you are both happy and contented with your relationship then all is well. However, when there is discord and a disparity in sexual desire, problems are likely to occur. Quite often a lack of sexual desire stems from a basic dissatisfaction within a couple's relationship. You may have problems such as money worries, illness, stress, or perhaps the discovery of an affair. The relationship may have suffered from years of neglect; a sense of drifting apart. Once you get in the pattern of rarely having sex it can be difficult to get back to a regular and satisfying love life. Relationships can go through phases where one or both partners have gone off sex, but this is not necessarily a sign that the desire has gone forever. You can choose to

For instance, your partner may suggest trying something new, even if you are hesitant about the idea you could try it on the understanding that you can stop if you are not enjoying it. Try to keep an open mind though and come up with new ideas between you. Lovemaking can easily become routine and of low priority but maybe by adding in some new techniques it could bring back the excitement. There are numerous books and dvd’s available to help give you inspiration. If your problems seem too overwhelming to confront alone then maybe counselling would be a helpful option for you to pursue. If you would like to find out more about the counselling Julia offers then please take a look at her website www. juliameanwellcounselling.co.uk she can be contacted by email Julia.meanwell@gmail.com or give her a call on 07714 280083.
