EL MEJOR CIRCUITO AMATEUR Andalucía Golf/España Golf ha puesto en marcha ya, y es el cuarto año consecutivo, su circuito de verano, el ANDALUCIA GOLF CHALLENGE (Exclusive Golf Tour) que, como siempre, se jugará en algunos de los mejores campos de la Costa del Sol. Este año serán seis las sedes de esta competición: Rio Real (12/07/2014),

Finca Cortesín (26/07/2014), San Roque Club Old Course (02/08/2014), La Reserva (15/08/2014) Flamingos (23/08/2014) y Aloha Golf (07/09/2014). Todos ellos son recorridos de altísimo nivel, tanto por su diseño como por su esmeradísimo mantenimiento y servicios, que han acogido pruebas del Tour Europeo o competiciones muy relevantes. Podría decirse, a pesar de los pocos años de existencia, que este circuito se está convirtiendo en un clásico. Y no solo el nivel de los premios, los mejores que un circuito amateur puede ofrecer, atrae a los aficionados que en esos meses residen o visitan la Costa. También es importante la atmósfera de competición que se respira en cada una de las pruebas, a las que se puede acceder de una en una, sin tener que inscribirse en todas; la camaradería golfista que se genera; los contactos y amistades que se establecen... De todas formas, no hay que desdeñar la amplia y variada oferta de premios a los que se puede optar : viajes a Turquía para los ganadores, tanto en primera como en segunda categoría, de cada uno de los torneos, miles de euros en material de golf, vinos de alta gama, regalos seguros para todos los participantes, etc. En este sentido, en esta edición del circuito daremos un salto cualitativo que, estamos seguros, los aficionados sabrán valorar y apreciar. Para nuestra publicación será un honor contar con el apoyo y la presencia de centenares de golfistas deseosos de medir sus fuerzas con algunos de los mejores campos de golf de Andalucía. THE PREMIER AMATEUR CIRCUIT Andalucía Golf/España Golf is once again offering readers the opportunity of taking part in its popular summer circuit, now the fourth consecutive year of the ANDALUCÍA GOLF CHALLENGE (Exclusive Golf Tour). As always, the event will be held at some of the Costa del Sol’s finest courses. This year the competition has six top venues: Rio Real (12/07/2014), Finca Cortesín (26/07/2014), San Roque Club Old Course (02/08/2014), La Reserva (15/08/2014) Flamingos (23/08/2014) and Aloha Golf (07/09/2014). All are courses of the highest order, for both their design and their meticulous maintenance and services, and have hosted European Tour or other major events. It can justifiably be said that, in spite of still being a relatively new competition, the circuit has already become a classic on the annual golfing calendar. And not just taking into account the prizes, the best an amateur circuit can offer, attracting keen interest among golfers living on or visiting the Coast during these months. Also important is the competition atmosphere that prevails at each of the events, which can be played individually without having to sign up for the whole circuit: the golfing camaraderie created; the contacts and friendships made… Having said that, it is especially worth highlighting the wide and varied array of prizes on offer: trips to Turkey for the winners, both first and second category, in each competition; golf products valued at thousands of euros; fine wines, guaranteed gifts for all participants, etc. In that respect, this edition of the circuit will make even greater strides in quality, which we are certain golfers will appreciate and value highly. It will be an honour for our publication to count on the support and presence of hundreds of golfers keen to test their skills on some of the top golf courses in Andalucía. Nada menos que así lo definió la prensa norteamericana durante el pasado Masters de Augusta, donde a punto estuvo de dar la gran campanada y lograr, a sus 50 años, la victoria. Han pasado más de tres décadas desde que Miguel Ángel Jiménez tuviese la feliz idea de ejercer de caddie los fines de semana para echar una mano en casa, un hogar con escasos ingresos y muchas bocas que alimentar (son siente hermanos). 8

“The most interesting golfer in the world”… nothing less than this grand title was how the US press described him during the 2014 US Masters at Augusta, where he went so close to the stunning achievement of winning, at 50 years of age, his first Grand Slam title. It has now been three decades since Miguel Ángel Jiménez had the ultimately propitious idea of working as a caddie on weekends to help supplement the family budget, a home with limited resources and many mouths to feed (seven brothers in all). on 15 primaveras dejó el colegio, se dedicó de lleno al golf como caddie y empezó a hacer sus pinitos en el campo de prácticas. En 1982 se hizo profesional y, tras cumplir el servicio militar, en 1985, con 21 años, comenzó a dedicarse en serio a la competición. Amante de los coches veloces, los puros y el buen vino, el jugador malagueño, a sus 50 años, está dando más guerra que nunca. Ya desde los 40 empezó a hacerlo, como lo demuestra el hecho de que catorce de sus veintiuna victorias en el Circuito Europeo las haya cosechado desde que entró en su cuarta década vital. En su exitosa participación en el pasado Masters, donde acabó finalmente cuarto, a dos golpes del campeón, igualó el record de mejor vuelta (66) realizada en la historia del torneo por un jugador mayor de 50 años. Anteriormente lo hicieron Fred Couples (en 2010, con 50 años) y Ben Hogan (en 1967, con 54). También igualaba el malagueño su mejor resultado en sus quince apariciones cuando en 2010 firmó 66 en la ronda final. Sólo una semana después de su deslumbrante actuación en el Augusta National, Jiménez volvía a sorprender al mundo con su victorioso debut en el Champions Tour, el circuito senior de Estados Unidos. En su primera incursión en el Tour de los mayores de 50, en el Greater Gwinnett Championship, el jugador de Churriana se impuso con dos golpes de ventaja sobre el alemán Bernhard Langer, el golfista que ha cosechado 19 triunfos en siete años en esta división. Otro ‘histórico’, Fred Couples, quedaba cuarto. Jiménez se convertía así en el decimoctavo jugador de la historia que ganaba un torneo del circuito senior en su debut. El malagueño es el segundo jugador español de la historia que gana en el

commitment to returning to the sport everything that golf has given him over the years. He arrives slightly late, because he has been tied up with the arrangements for his second marriage, to Austrian economist Susanne Styblo, to be held a few days later, and checking on his mother, who had suﬀered a minor medical problem. This gentleman of the game doesn’t stop for one moment: he is a real 50-year-old live wire. Lately he has become a media favourite around the world of golf. The day before, a Canadian journalist had visited to interview him; this same morning, a Swede. And so on every day,

e left school at 15, dedicated all his time to golf as a caddie and began hitting shots on the practice range. In 1982 he turned professional and three years later, after completing military conscription, now 21 years old, he focused seriously on competitive golf. A lover of fast cars, cigars and fine wine, today the 50-year-old Málaga-born golfer is in better form than ever. This is highlighted by the fact that, since turning 40, he has won 14 of his 21 European Tour career titles. During his successful appearance in the most recent US Masters, he eventually finished fourth, two shots behind the winner, and equalled the best round (66) by a player aged 50 or over. Fred Couples had achieved the feat in 2010 (also at 50) and Ben Hogan in 1967 (54 years). Jiménez also equalled his best result in 15 appearances at August, having carded a 66 in the final round in 2010. Just one week after his stunning performance in the Masters, Jiménez once again dazzled the world with his winning debut on the US Champions Tour. Making his first appearance in a seniors Tour event, he won by two shots from Bernhard Langer, who had won 19 times in seven years on the US seniors tour; while another “historic” star, Couples, was fourth. Jiménez thus became the 18th player in history to win on his US seniors tour debut, and only the second Spanish champion, after José María Cañizares, who triumphed in the 2001 Toshiba Senior Classic. And for the finishing touch, just as we were going to press, “Pisha” (as he is fondly known locally) did it again: winning a play-off for the Open de España title, played in May at the PGA Catalunya Resort. co. No para un minuto este caballero: es un polvorilla de 50 tacos. En los últimos tiempos se ha convertido en el hombre de moda del golf. El día antes había venido a entrevistarle un periodista canadiense, esa misma mañana un sueco, así todos los días, y él aguantando estoico en el poco tiempo que le queda entre viaje y viaje, entre entrenamiento y entrenamiento "porque el trabajo duro es la base de todo. Hay que picar piedra todos los días". Si no está con un palo en la mano a Miguel es como si le faltara algo, tiene la sensación de estar perdiendo el tiempo. –Recientemente se le ha concedido la Medalla de Oro de Málaga, y en Andalucía en general goza de un amplio reconocimiento. ¿Se siente profeta en su tierra? –Hombre, todos los reconocimientos sientan bien ¿no?. Llevo veintiséis años dándole la vuelta al mundo y a todos les gusta que se le reconozcan las cosas cuando se está vivo, no cuando la has espichao, que es lo que suele pasar. Nadie es profeta en su tierra, aunque he ganado un par de veces en Andalucía, y que te den algunos homenajes te hace sentirte bien, por supuesto. Es el fruto que uno recoge por el trabajo de toda una vida. –Desde hace unos meses se ha convertido en el hombre de moda del golf en todo el mundo, especialmente después de su actuación en el Masters... –Los últimos quince años llevo jugando muy bien al golf. Han sido los mejores de mi carrera. Y últimamente, alrededor de los cincuenta, la verdad es que me va muy bien: gané en Hong Kong a ﬁnales del año pasado, gané el primer torneo senior en el que he participado, cuarto en el Master, en ﬁn... sigo mareando la perdiz; treinta y pico en el ranking mundial, la verdad es que estoy en un momento muy bonito de mi vida. –La prensa de todo el mundo le persigue... –Sí, porque, la verdad, es que es atípico, no es normal que con la edad que tengo esté jugando como si tuviese diez años menos. –Mejora con el tiempo, como los buenos vinos. –Los buenos vinos con el tiempo se ponen mejores, hasta que, como todas las cosas, llega un momento en el que ya no pueden mejorar y comienzan a avinagrarse. Yo espero no haber llegado todavía a ese punto. Aun sigo buscando la perfección y continuar aprendiendo. –Los cincuenta son para la mayoría de los golfistas un cambio drástico de ciclo, sin embargo parece que no es así para usted.

with Jiménez handling it in stoic fashion during the brief periods he has between trips away, and between practice sessions – “because hard work is the foundation of everything. You’ve got to break stones every day.” If he doesn’t have a club in his hands, for Miguel Ángel it’s like he’s missing something; he feels like he’s wasting time. - Recently you’ve been honoured with the provincial Málaga Gold Medal, and you enjoy widespread recognition throughout Andalucía. Do you feel like a prophet in your own land? - Well, all recognition makes you feel good, no? I’ve been travelling around the world for 26 years, and everyone likes it when they are recognised for things while they are still alive, not when they’ve kicked the bucket – which is what normally happens. No-one is a prophet in their own land, although I’ve won a couple of times in Andalucía, and if they pay you a few tributes you feel good, of course. It’s the fruits you reap for the work of a lifetime. - Over the past few months you’ve become the cool guy throughout the golf world, especially after your performance in the Masters… - I’ve been playing very good golf the past 15 years. They’ve been the best of my career. And lately, around the age of 50, it’s true that things have gone very well: I won in Hong Kong towards the end of last year, I won on my senior tour debut, I was fourth in the Masters… In short, I’m still resisting the passage of time: 30-something in the world rankings, it’s true that I’m enjoying one of the most wonderful moments of my life. - The whole international press is chasing you… - Yes, because the truth is it’s atypical: it’s not normal, at my age, to be playing like I’m 10 years younger. - Improving with time, like a good wine… - Good wines improve with time until, like everything, they reach a point when they can’t improve any more and start to turn sour. I hope I haven’t reached that point yet. I’m still seeking perfection and still learning. - For most golfers, turning 50 is a drastic change of cycle, but it doesn’t seem to be for you… - Normally, when golfers turn 50 they are no longer competitive on the main tour, and for the last three or four years before reaching that age they are only thinking about getting there so they can start again at their peak on the senior tour, where they arrive as the youngsters. I’ve arrived from the main tour in good form, in a good position and, for the moment, 100 per cent eﬀective: I’ve played one tournament and I’ve won. What more can you ask for? - Did you feel you could have won the Masters? - I did have that feeling, bearing in mind how well I was playing all week, at least that I would be there battling for the title. I was hitting the ball very well, playing well, with a very good dynamic and the mind well focused. Everything in its right place, which is what you need in the Masters… - It would have been the culmination of an impressive career… - It would have been amazing – although I’m still hopeful of winning a major.

–Normalmente los jugadores cuando llegan a los cincuenta ya no son productivos en el circuito regular, y los últimos tres o cuatro años antes de llegar a esa edad están solo pensando en cumplirlos para empezar otra vez en pleno apogeo en el circuito senior, donde llegan como jóvenes. Yo vengo del circuito regular en buena forma, en buena situación y, de momento, con un cien por cien de efectividad: he jugado un torneo y lo he ganado ¿que más se puede pedir? –¿Tuvo la sensación de que pudo ganar el Master? –Tuve la sensación, dado como estaba jugando toda la semana, de que, al menos, iba a estar ahí, luchando por el triunfo. Le estaba pegando muy bien a la bola, jugando bien, con una dinámica muy buena y la cabeza centrada. Todo en su sitio, que es lo que necesitas para estar en el Mastert... –Hubiese sido el culmen de una carrera impresionante. –Hubiese sido la leche. Aunque yo sigo teniendo esperanzas de ganar un major. De echo estoy clasiﬁcado para todos los que quedan. Acabo de jugar uno en el que estuve cerca y todavía quedan más para seguir dando la lata.

–Además de la alegria de ganar ¿que sensación le dio jugar por primera vez en el circuito senior? –Hace catorce o quince años que tengo la tarjeta del Tour Americano, donde jugué un par de temporadas, y ahora he vuelto como catorce años atrás. Veo las mismas caras que entonces, la misma gente que en aquella época eran mayores que yo, y ahora me los vuelvo a encontrar, es como regresar en el tiempo. La sensación ha sido muy buena, todos estaban muy contentos de que estuviese jugando allí, porque un poco de aire fresco es bueno para el Tour, para los sponsors, para la televisión... Me han recibido muy bien y estoy muy satisfecho. –Lo del Open de Hong Kong, con cuatro victorias, es único, deberían ponerle su nombre al torneo. –Hong Kong es un campo que me gusta mucho, me identiﬁco muy bien con él; hay que jugar mucho con la bola, moverla bien, y se adapta perfectamente a mi juego. –Uno de sus objetivos este año es jugar la Ryder Cup ¿Después que otras metas se propone? –Jugar la Ryder Cup es mi principal prioridad,

por eso no voy a jugar más en el circuito senior hasta el Open Británico Senior, que se celebra justo después del Open. Mi meta es estar dentro del equipo europeo de la Ryder Cup y para eso tengo que jugar en el circuito regular, luego vamos a ver como terminamos el año y como estamos en el ranking mundial. Veré también como comienzo el año que viene y entonces tomaré una decisión, porque en 2016 están los juegos olímpicos, y si sigo estando bien posicionado a los mejor hay que hacer otro sacriﬁcio y jugar las olimpiadas -dice irónico. La verdad es que me encantaría ser olímpico. Voy a dejar que el tiempo vaya tomando las decisiones por mi. –La imagen que usted proyecta puede parecer un poco atípica comparada con la de los jóvenes golfistas, muy de gimnasio, muy atletas; usted no renuncia a sus puros, al buen vino... parecería que le va más la "buena vida" que el entrenamiento exigente ¿pero imagino que sus éxitos no se los regalan, que detrás de ellos hay un trabajo duro y constante? . I’ve just played in one where I was close, and there are still more for me to continue causing trouble. - In addition to the delight of winning, what other feelings did you have competing for the first time on the Senior Tour? - I’ve had a US Tour card for 14 or 15 years, and I played there for a couple of seasons, and now I’ve returned as if it was 14 years ago again. I see the same faces as then, the same people who at that time were older than me, and now that I find them again it’s like going back through time. It’s been a very good feeling. Everyone was very happy that I was playing there, because a bit of fresh air is good for the tour, for the sponsors, for television… I was received very well and I’m very satisfied. - The Hong Kong situation, with four victories, is unique. They should add your name to the tournament title… - I really like the Hong Kong course; I identify well with it. You have to play a lot with the ball, move it well, and that is perfect for my game. - One of your main objectives this year is to play in the Ryder Cup. What other goals do you have? - Playing in the Ryder Cup is my main priority, so I’m not going to compete any more on the senior tour until the British Senior Open, which is played straight after the (British) Open Championship. My aim is to be part of the Ryder Cup team, and to that end I have to play on the main tour. Later, we’ll see how we finish the year and how we are in the world rankings. I’ll also see how I begin the new season, and then make a decision, because in 2016 it’s the Olympic Games and if I remain in a good position maybe I’ll make another sacrifice and play in the Olympics (he says this in an ironic tone). Yo me levanto y voy al gimnasio, pero no voy a estar ahí 24 horas. Tengo que hacer un trabajo de mantenimiento, seguir estirándome, un poco de pesa, pero no mucho porque no quiero cambiar mi estructura ni lesionarme si exagero. Y después dar bolas y más bolas. La garantía del éxito está en el trabajo duro, hay que picar piedra todos los días. Cuando yo empecé en el Tour hace 26 años la gente no se preparaba como ahora, todo era mucho más técnico. Ahora hay más poderío, más potencia: es el golf moderno al que todos tenemos que adaptarnos de alguna forma. –¿Que le parece el apodo que le han puesto en Estados Unidos : "El más interesante hombre del golf" ( The most Interesting man in golf) ? –Siempre hay gente ávida de buscar apelativos a las cosas, y bueno, pues muy bien, no me disgusta, me agrada. –Aunque sigue mandando en le ranking mundial, la distancia con sus perseguidores se ha reducido bastante, apenas les saca unas décimas a Scott y Stenson. ¿Cree que el reinado de Woods está próximo a acabarse o todavía hay Tigre para rato? –¿Como voy yo a decir que se está acabando la época de Tiger W. si tiene treinta y tantos años y yo cincuenta?. No se puede matar a nadie antes de tiempo. Es un jugador impresionante, y hoy el único sobre la tierra que puede batir el récord de Nicklaus en cuanto a majors se reﬁere. Hay que tenerle respeto. Nadie puede pensar que un jugador de esa clase se va a perder de la noche a la mañana. –¿Le cuesta viajar casi todas las semanas? –A mí lo que me gusta es lo que hago: competir; y eso me obliga a viajar. 16

At 50 I’m not going to change my physique, or anything like that, and neither am I going to stop enjoying the things I like, but smoking, drinking and eating don’t lead you anywhere. Afterwards, you have to do some serious and constant work. I get up and go to the gym, but I’m not going to be there for 24 hours. I have to do some maintenance work, to continue stretching, a bit of weight-lifting, but not too much because I don’t want to change my body form or injure myself by overdoing it. Then hit balls, and more balls. Achieving success is down to hard work. You’ve got to break stones every day. When I began on the tour 26 years ago, players didn’t train like they do now – it was all more about technique. Now there’s more strength, more power: it’s modern golf, and we all have to adapt to that to some extent. - What do you think about the nickname they’ve given you in the United States: “the most interesting main in golf”? - There are always people keen to give names to things, and fair enough: it doesn’t bother me – I like it. - Even though he is still number one in the world rankings (at the time of going to press), the margin to his closest challengers, Scott and Stenson, is narrow, barely a few tenths of a point. Do you believe that Tiger Woods’ reign is about to come to an end, or will we see him around for some time yet? - How could I say that Tiger’s era is coming to an end when he’s only thirty-something and I’m 50? Aunque es verdad que se hace un poco duro porque son muchos años dándole la vuelta al mundo, pero esto es lo que se hacer, es lo que me divierte, y es de lo que vivo. –¿Se le han quitado las ganas de seguir organizando torneos? –¿Seguir organizando torneos? ¿para lo agradecidos que son? Que les den... Si quieren que organice torneos yo estoy encantado pero que vengan con la manteca por delante, porque he perdido mucho dinero y la gente tiene mucha cara -no quiere especiﬁcar quienes, pero se entiende. En el último Open de Andalucía se me cayó un sponsor institucional días antes del torneo, cuando ya estaba todo comprometido, y luego decían que no. Ya lo teníamos todo montado y Miguel Ángel Jiménez solo tiene una palabra, y por eso se hizo el torneo, pero ahí se acabó. Yo estoy dispuesto a hacer todo por mi tierra, a hacer cosas aquí, pero estos señores que están al cargo de las políticas turísticas y económicas no se dan cuenta de que gracias al golf todavía vivimos en la Costa del Sol/Costa del Golf. Si no somos capaces de tener un torneo permanente para utilizarlo en la promoción y montar ferias, traer turoperadores y hacer mil cosas es que son ciegos. Que se dediquen a otra cosa. 18

Bearing in mind how appreciative they are? They can stick it… If they want to organise tournaments I’m happy to do so, but they can come along with the bread and butter up front, because I’ve lost a lot of money and people have a real cheek (he doesn’t want to specify who, but it’s understood). At the last Open de Andalucía an institutional sponsor fell through days before the tournament, when everything was agreed, and later they said no. Everything was already set up and Miguel Ángel Jiménez only has one word, his word, and that’s why we went ahead with the tournament, but not again. I’m willing to do everything for my home land, to do things here, but those people who are in charge of tourist and economic policies don’t realise that, thanks to golf, we still live on the Costa del Sol/Costa del Golf. If we aren’t able to have a permanent tournament, to use it for promotional purposes, and organise fairs, invite tour operators and do a thousand other things, then they’re just blind. They should do some other job.

El hombre de moda erá cosa del cambio climático?, ¿a los insectos no les gusta el golf?, ¿cuándo saldremos de esta maldita crisis? Preguntas sin respuesta. Aunque a Pablo Larrazábal le gustaría saber por qué diablos se convirtió en diana de un enjambre de gigantescas avispas asiáticas durante el Open de Malasia. El jugador español se vio obligado a arrojarse a un lago en el campo de golf para evitar seguir siendo picado por los alados insectos, que le asaetearon durante un buen rato. Otro picotazo menos molesto, todo lo contrario, es el que le dieron a Miguel Ángel Jiménez hace un par de años. Se lo asestó, en forma de flechazo, Cupido, ya saben, el diablillo del amor. El Pisha está viviendo, con medio siglo a sus espaldas, una segunda primavera vital. Si en el plano afectivo parece que le van bien las cosas, en el profesional no le podían ir mejor. El churrianero de pro lleva una racha insuperable desde que, en abril, asombrara al personal golfístico, que suma millones de almas, la mayoría en vilo, con su vibrante actuación en el Masters. Igualó, con sus 66 golpes, la mejor vuelta en ese grande realizada por un jugador mayor de 50 años, y terminó cuarto en el famoso torneo del no menos famoso Augusta National. Tal fue el impacto que está causando al otro lado del charco Atlántico que los sobrinos del Tío Sam –los estadounidenses, vamos– le han puesto el apelativo de “El golfista más interesante del mundo”. ¡Casi ná! Luego haría otra de las suyas, imponiéndose como quien no quiere la cosa en su primera cita con el Champions Tour, ese circuito de los campeones que congrega en Estados Unidos a los mejores cincuentones del mundo, con nombres míticos como Greg Norman o Fred Couples, por ejemplo, a los que el golfista malagueño dejó –atrás– con un palmo de narices. Y para remate, días después de su boda con la austriaca Susanne Styblo, oficiada sobre el césped de su escuela de golf en Torremolinos, Jiménez triunfaba, una vez más, en el Circuito Europeo, esta vez en un torneo que hasta entonces se le mostraba remiso: el Open de España. Está claro que por Miguel Ángel no pasan los años, al menos en su nivel de juego y en su actitud positiva ante la competición y la vida. Es muy raro verlo enfadado o preocupado, aunque, como todos los mortales, su vida no esté exenta de las malas

experiencias inherentes a toda existencia. (¡Qué de exes!). Los merecidos homenajes no cesan y, tras el otorgamiento de la Medalla de Oro de la Provincia por parte de la Diputación de Málaga, la Real Federación Andaluza de Golf va a proponer que una calle de la capital de la Costa del Sol lleve el nombre de este auténtico artista del golf.

Jiménez se lo merece por sus méritos deportivos y por todo lo que ha hecho y sigue haciendo para promocionar turísticamente su amada tierra, que, como él no se cansa de pregonar a los cuatro vientos, le ha dato todo. Aunque exagera un poco (algo, mucho, lo ha dado él mismo), es cierto que en Málaga y Andalucía se le admira y se le quiere de corazón.

“Los presupuestos para maquinaria siguen siendo muy restrictivos” Julián Lara, fundador y presidente de Riversa, empresa líder en España en maquinaria y sistemas de riego para campos de golf, con casi cuarenta años de actividad en el sector, habla del presente, pasado y futuro de este segmento económico... entre otras cosas.

–¿Cómo describiría la situación actual del sector de maquinaria para campos de golf en España? –Más bien la definiría como aletargada. Durante los años de crisis, que también afectó a la industria del golf y mucho, se restringieron los presupuestos y eso afectó a personal y por supuesto a maquinaria y, aunque la situación en los campos está mejorando, los presupuestos siguen siendo muy restrictivos. –Con la crisis, ¿han invertido o invierten los campos en maquinaria realmente lo que necesitan para un mantenimiento óptimo? –Entiendo que durante la crisis no invirtieron en nada, teniendo en cuenta que la mayoría de los campos estaban dando pérdidas, pero ahora, en los últimos dos años , la situación está cambiando y siguen sin invertir. Creo que es un gran error, ya que el activo más importante de un club de golf es el campo y, si se quiere tener un buen producto, hay que invertir en él para mantener una oferta de calidad. –¿Qué han supuesto las innovaciones tecnológicas para las instalaciones de riego en los campos de golf?

–Los sistemas de riego para campos de golf han evolucionado muchísimo en los últimos años y toda la innovación ha ido dirigida al control del uso de agua. Hoy no se habla de gasto de agua sino de ahorro de agua. Tenemos sistemas como el Linx de Toro que permite controlar cada litro de agua que consumimos, segundo por segundo. 4 –¿Se han hecho en el presente siglo mejores campos que cuando usted empezó, hace 38 años? –Los campos clásicos tradicionales han sido muy difíciles de mejorar, entre otras cosas porque no se les ha dado el suelo que requiere un buen campo. Salvo excepciones como el Nuevo Prat en Barcelona o Soto de Manzanaque en Madrid, el resto no ha superado a los clásicos del siglo XX. 5 –¿Ha habido en estas cuatro últimas décadas alguna innovación revolucionaria en maquinaria de mantenimiento? –La innovación y mejora en la maquinaria de mantenimiento ha ido en el camino de la calidad de corte y la productividad, así como en una mejor ergonomía, y en ese sentido ha habido grandes avances. Hoy se pueden ver calles cortadas con una calidad parecida a los greenes de hace 20 años. También se han preocupado por el medio ambiente tanto en los niveles de ruido como en el de emisiones. De hecho, las máquinas producidas este año cumplen con la normativa Internacional TIER IV. –¿Cuáles son las claves, en su opinión para hacer un 6 buen campo de golf? –Yo diría que son tres más una. Esto quiere decir que son tres las claves para hacer un buen campo y una más, que es su posterior mantenimiento. Por lo tanto, para hacer un buen campo es necesario un buen suelo –mínimo 70 hectáreas–, un buen diseño y una buena construcción. –Parece que la economía española empieza a recu7 perar fuelle, aunque sea lentamente. ¿Está notando usted esa recuperación en el sector del golf? –Los campos de golf, especialmente los destinos turísticos como Costa del Sol, Canarias y Baleares, en los últimos dos años han mejorado mucho su ocupación, y en algunos casos incluso están batiendo records en el número de jugadores. Aunque eso todavía no se refleja en los ingresos debido a la reducción de precios y a la subida del IVA, que representó un golpe muy fuerte el año pasado. El resto de los campos siguen pasándolo mal, y espe-

cialmente los clubs de socios por la caída de socios y pérdida de ingresos por cuota. –¿Cree que las autoridades políticas son conscientes de la importancia turística y generadora de empleo de los campos de golf? –Los políticos y los partidos tienen una consigna clara con respecto al golf: son antigolf. Algunos sí son conscientes de la riqueza que puede generar el golf, especialmente en destinos turísticos. Pero no lo reconocen públicamente porque no estaría bien visto que un político hablara bien del golf. Ésta es una asignatura pendiente que tenemos desde hace muchos años en España y no encontramos la forma de convencer a los políticos. En otros países de nuestro entorno, como Portugal, Francia, Alemania y no digamos Inglaterra, el apoyo político a los proyectos viables es incondicional. –El elevado consumo de agua para riego de campos de golf es una cuestión a menudo criticada por los grupos ecologistas. ¿Qué argumentos tiene para rebatir esas críticas? –Los ecologistas son otro colectivo que se enfrenta al golf por principio. Y el consumo del agua es uno de sus argumentos más empleado. En primer lugar, los consumos no son ni mucho menos los que ellos dicen. Hablan de 400.0000 metros cúbicos al año por campo de 18 hoyos, y no es cierto. El consumo depende de la superficie a regar, del tipo de suelo, del clima, del tipo de césped, etc. Pero, en cualquier caso, hoy existen sistemas de riego que controlan cada litro de agua que se usa y en ningún caso se llega a esas cifras. En segundo lugar, en muchas comunidades de España está estipulado por ley que el agua que se utilice para el riego de campos de golf tiene que ser reciclada, con lo cual es agua que se reutiliza en lugar de tirarla.

Julián Lara – founder and president of Riversa, Spain’s leading company for golf course equipment, machinery and irrigation systems, involved for nearly 40 years in the industry – talks about the past, present and future of this economic segment... among other subjects.

– How would you describe the current situation in the golf course equipment and machinery industry in Spain? - I would best describe it as sluggish. During the years of crisis – which also affected the golf industry, and quite a lot – budgets were restricted and this affected staff and, of course, equipment. Even though the situation at golf courses is improving, budgets remain very restrictive. – With the crisis, have golf courses invested in, or are they investing in, equipment that they do really need for optimal maintenance? - I understand that during the crisis they didn’t invest in anything, taking into account the fact that most courses were suffering losses, but now – in recent years – the situation has been changing and they are still not investing. I believe this is a serious mistake, because the most important asset that a golf course has is its course and – if you want to offer a good product – you must invest in it to maintain quality amenities. – What have technological innovations in irrigation systems meant for golf courses? - Irrigation systems for golf courses have evolved tremendously in recent years, and all the innovation has been focused on controlling water usage. These days you don’t talk about water usage but rather saving water. We have systems such as Toro’s Lynx that enable us to control each litre of water consumed, second by second. – Have better golf courses been built this century than when you began operations, 38 years ago? - It’s been difficult to improve on the classic traditional courses, among other reasons, because they haven’t provided the amount of land that a good course requires. Apart from such exceptions as Nuevo Prat in Barcelona or Soto de Manzanaque in Madrid, the others haven’t surpassed the classic courses of the 20th century. – Over the past four decades has there been any revolutionary innovation in maintenance equipment? - Innovation and improvements in maintenance equipment have come in the area of quality cutting and productivity, as well as in better ergonomics, and in this sense there have been great advances. These days you can see fairways cut with the same quality as greens 20 years ago. Attention has also been paid to the environment, both in noise levels and emissions. – What are the keys, in your opinion, to building a good golf course?

- I would say there are three plus one. That is to say, there are there keys to building a good course and one more, its maintenance afterwards. So for a good course it’s necessary to have good land, at least 70 hectares, a good design and good construction. 7 – It seems as though the Spanish economy has begun to regain its breath, albeit slowly. Have you noticed this recovery in the golf industry? - Golf courses, especially those in tourist destinations such as the Costa del Sol, Canary Isles and Balearics, have been improving their activity over the past two years, and in some cases even setting new records in number of players. Although this is still not reflected in revenue due to a reduction in prices and the increase in IVA (VAT), which was a serious blow last year. The other courses are still having a bad time, especially members’ clubs due to a decrease in the number of members and the resulting loss of membership fees 8 – Do you believe the political authorities are aware of the importance of golf courses for tourism and job creation? - Politicians and parties have a clear slogan when it comes to golf: they are anti-golf. Some, yes, are aware of the wealth that golf can generate, especially in tourist destinations, but they don’t recognise this publicly because it’s not considered good for a politician to talk well about golf. This is an issue that we have had pending for several years in Spain, and we can’t find a way to convince the politicians. In other countries – Portugal, France, Germany and not to say England – political support for viable projects is unconditional. – 9 The high water consumption for golf course irrigation is one issue frequently criticised by ecological groups. What arguments can you offer to reject this criticism? - Ecologists are another group who oppose golf on a matter of principle. And water consumption is one of their most common arguments. In the first place, water usage levels are nowhere near what they claim them to be. They speak of 400,000 cubic metres a year for an 18-hole golf course, and that’s not true. Consumption depends on the surface that has to be irrigated, the kind of ground, the climate, the grass type, etc. However, in any event, today there are irrigation systems that control each litre of water consumed and in no case are these totals reached. In the second place, in many regions of Spain it is stipulated by law that water used to irrigate golf courses has to be recycled, in which case it is water that is re-used rather than wasted. lujo para el regreso del Circuito Europeo a Andalucía en un gran torneo ganado por el italiano Marco Crespi El embrujo del Circuito Europeo volvió a hechizar a Andalucía, y lo hizo en un campo fuera de serie: La Reserva de Sotogrande, que acogió el NH Collection Open. El italiano Marco Crespi se hizo con la victoria en este toneo de nueva creación. El NH Collection Open se despidió de La Reserva de Sotogrande con una brillante última jornada en la que destacó de forma especial el joven gerundense Jordi García Pinto. Con solo 24 años y tarjeta del Challenge Tour, el catalán peleó de tú a tú con el experimentado grupo de jugadores que luchaban por el trofeo. Una tarjeta de 66 golpes, dos birdies por un bogey en la primera vuelta y cinco birdies sin errores en la segunda, le llevaron a la segunda plaza de la clasificación, empatado con Richie Ramsay a dos golpes del ganador, que se impuso con una última vuelta de 69 golpes para un total de 278 (-10). Felipe Aguilar y Matthew Nixon compartieron la cuarta posición, con 280 golpes. García Pinto comenzó a jugar al golf a los 4 años gracias a su abuelo. Se hizo profesional en 2008 y en 2012 se unió al Challenge Tour donde logró 8 Top- 25. El año pasado ganó el Open de Kenia y quedó 8 veces entre los treinta mejores, pero no logró la tarjeta para el Circuito Europeo, su gran objetivo, que después de esta semana tiene más cerca al colocarse segundo en el ranking del Challenge. Adrián Otaegui completó también un sensacional torneo y con los 70 golpes del domingo (282 en total) finalizó sexto empatado con Marc Warren, Kristoffer Broberg y Oliver Fisher. Pero la victoria final fue para la perseverancia de Crespi, que a sus 35 años jugaba su primera temporada en el Circuito Europeo después de once años como profesional. Era, de hecho, el debutante ganador más veterano de la historia del Tour. Su mejor resultado hasta la fecha era un cuarto puesto en Sudáfrica.

El italiano, que empezó a jugar a los 13 años porque su padre era caddie de un club milanés, dominó a la perfección los movidos greenes de La Reserva de Sotogrande y eso le dio la victoria. El domingo salía, además, decidido a aprovechar esta oportunidad con la que llevaba soñando mucho tiempo y, muy emocionado, dedicó el triunfo a su mujer e hija. Felipe Aguilar fue su máximo rival, pero el fuelle le duró hasta el hoyo 13. Tres bogeys consecutivos del chileno en el 13, 14 y 15, y uno más en el 17 le dejaron fuera de la pelea. Crespi, exultante con su victoria, sintetizaba así su última vuelta en La Reserva: “Empecé muy bien, hice birdie en el uno y eso me dio confianza para seguir, solo tuve que manejar bien la presión en los nueve segundos. Marco Crespi insisted a good start was key as he won his first European Tour title at the NH Collection Open. The 35 year old, who came through Qualifying School at the 11th attempt in November to earn a first season on The European Tour, completed victory on only his 25th career start. A three under par 69 gave the Italian a ten under total at La Reserva de Sotogrande Club de Golf and a two shot win over Spain’s Jordi Garcia Pinto and Scotland’s Richie Ramsay. Crespi turned in a four under par 32 to race

into a three shot lead, but bogeys at the 12th and 13th jeopardised his chances. The two-time Challenge Tour winner had only finished in the top ten of a European Tour event once before, finishing fourth at the South African Open earlier this season, but held his nerve and birdied the 14th before paring his way in for victory. “I started very well today,” said Crespi. “I birdied the first and that gave me the confidence to go low. “I just had to manage my pressure on the

back nine. I lost a couple of shots on 12 and 13. On 12 I hit a very bad eight iron to the green, my only bad shot of the day. On 13 I had a very long iron, a three iron, and it wasn’t a really bad shot. “But then I birdied the next; I really like the 14th because I birdied it every day. “I played very good and I am very happy.” Earlier Ramsay had birdied his first four holes to move into a share of the lead, with Crespi, who had birdied the first, and overnight leader Matthew Nixon. Much has already been said about internationally renowned Valderrama – also venue for the World Golf Championships and Volvo Masters – and even more will be spoken in the future, all good. However, Cádiz is much more than this magnificent course. Cádiz is the most southerly of Andalucía’s eight provinces and its capital is the oldest city in the western world. For a time during Spain’s Golden Age following the discovery of America Cádiz was Spain’s prime entry port for ships sailing to and from the New World. LA TACITA DE PLATA La capital de la provincia, conocida popularmente como La Tacita de Plata, es el punto más austral del continente. La ciudad de Cádiz, bañada por el Atlántico, refleja en el urbanismo del casco antiguo las reminiscencias de su acrisolado pasado pluricultural. La mitología atribuye a Hércules la fundación de la ciudad, pero en realidad los responsables de su creación fueron los fenicios, que la fundaron, bajo el nombre de Gadir, en el año 1100 antes de Cristo, lo que la convierte en la ciudad más antigua del mundo occidental. Close to Doñana National Park is the newly opened Sanlúcar Club de Campo. Just near the city of Cádiz is Puerto de Santa María, where Columbus’s ship the Santa María was fitted out before her Voyage of Discovery to the New World. Puerto de Santa María also offers a casino, waterpark and nine-hole golf course at Vistahermosa. To the south on the coast, at Vejer-Barbate, is the Dehesa Montenmedio golf complex Another coastal municipality in the province is Tarifa, the most southerly town in continental Europe and a favourite among windsurfers because of its strong winds. There are old walls around the town and a Moorish castle, though most visitors are drawn to the wide sandy beaches. A pocos kilómetros hacia el interior, se encuentra el municipio de Jerez, famoso entre otras cosas por sus bodegas, sus caballos y su circuito de velocidad, prácticamente colindante con el único campo de golf diseñado por el legendario Jack Nicklaus en Andalucía: Montecastillo. Este trazado ha sido escenario de diversos torneos del Circuito Eu ropeo, como el Volvo Masters y el Turespaña Masters Open de Andalucía. En la costa atlántica, en el municipio de Rota, famoso entre otras cosas por albergar una base militar norteamericana, se encuentra el macroproyecto turístico-deportivo Costa Ballena, con un campo de 27 hoyos más otro de 9 pares 3. Sus instalaciones fueron sede de la Escuela de Clasificación del Circuito Europeo entre 2005 y 2010. El dos veces campeón del Masters de Augusta José María Olazábal es el diseñador del campo.

Inland lies Jerez de la Frontera, famous for its sherry and Andalucían horses. It is also home to the Montecastillo golf resort and Sherry Golf Jerez. Many other towns in the area also carry the name “de la Frontera”, recalling the time when they stood on the border between the Moors and the Christians. Between Jerez and the Costa del Sol is an area called “Ruta del Toro”. This is bull farming country but halfway along, there is also golf at Benalup. For golfers the area around San Roque near Gibraltar is particularly interesting. The list of courses here includes Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, San Roque Club Old and New, Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Valleys, La Cañada, Almenara and La Reserva de Sotogrande.

Puede que el golf sea uno de los deportes más bonitos que existe, pero en ocasiones también puede ser frustrante, ya que por mucho que se entrene, cuando salimos al campo, las cosas no siempre salen uno quiere o al nivel de nuestras posibilidades. Si siente que no compite al nivel que entrena, probablemente el problema esté más en su mente que en su técnica. Cualquiera que juegue al golf sabe que la parte psicológica es importante y no sólo a nivel profesional; no hace falta jugar el master de Augusta para sentir la presión a la hora de meter un pat de metro y medio. Y es que si lo analizamos tiene mucho sentido; el swing de golf puede durar 5-6 seg, que si lo multiplicamos por el numero de golpes dentro de las 4 horas que dura un partido, la parte puramente física no serían mas de 15 minutos; en cambio, el resto del tiempo, la cabeza sigue funcionando ¡en ocasiones sin control! Hablamos entonces de que alrededor de un 5% del tiempo del juego es físico, dejando el 95% restante a una mente que no para de trabajar. Sin embargo, la mayor parte de los jugadores, especialmente amateurs, dedican prácticamente el 100% de su tiempo a entrenar la parte física y nada o casi nada la mental. Es indudable que sin una buena técnica y físico adecuado, la psicología no tiene sentido; Además, trabajar la parte mental tampoco asegura el éxito, pero si aumenta la probabilidad de conseguirlo ¡todo depende de donde elija centrar su atención! Ahora bien ¿Cuántas veces ha salido a jugar y le ha traicionado la falta de confianza? La seguridad en uno mismo depende de varios factores, entre otros el tiempo que haya dedicado a entrenar así como del talento que considere que tiene para el golf; pero también se genera con datos contrastados de lo que hacemos bien y los resultados obtenidos; Para ello es importante que se conozca a sí mismo y sepa los recursos de los que dispone y que le hacen especialmente bueno para este deporte. Hay que pensar que el cerebro está constantemente generando pensamientos e imágenes , y nuestras acciones van a depender e ir en consonancia con ellos. Si al acabar un partido piensa sólo en el error, enfocará su atención en el fracaso, en lo que hace mal y es probable que lo repita. Con esto quiero decir que no es malo pensar en el fallo, siempre y cuando lo cierre con la visualización de lo que quiere hacer y sentir la próxima vez que juegue. Además, para potenciar la confianza, es importante recordar competiciones y golpes de los que se haya sentido especialmente orgulloso. Un ejercicio muy útil, es elaborar una lista de aquellos factores a los que atribuye el éxito y que éstos estén dentro de lo que los psicólogos llamamos “Locus de Control Interno”. Veamos un ejemplo; imagine un golfista que sale de un torneo diciendo “gané porque tuve suerte, además el tiempo fue favorable y no había competidores fuertes”. Pensar así no da mucha opción a sentir que puede volver a ganar el próximo torneo, ya que parece que no depende de uno, sino de otros factores como la suerte, el tiempo o el nivel de los competidores. Diferente sería decir “Gané el torneo porque fui concentrado, enfocando mi atención en mi rutina, golpe a golpe, buscando siempre sensaciones y recuerdos de buenos golpes y manteniendo buena actitud toda la partida pese a los fallos, utilizando respiraciones para relajarme en todo momento”. En esta segunda definición el golfista deja claro que la proeza depende en gran parte de el, da más cabida a la posibilidad de repetirlo y sobre todo crea un sensación de control que generará mayor seguridad y confianza en su juego y en sus posibilidades. Fundado en 1964, el origen de este club está íntimamente ligado a la creación de la urbanización de Sotogrande a comienzos de los años 60. perdurara a lo largo del tiempo, por lo que cimentó su proyecto en unos parámetros de calidad completamente inéditos en la España de esos momentos. No es de extrañar que llamara entonces al más prestigioso diseñador de la época, Robert Trent Jones, para trazar el recorrido del RCG Sotogrande. Por deseo expreso de McMicking, Trent Jones eligió personalmente los terrenos en los que se ubicó el campo de golf dentro de la

enorme finca en la que se había proyectado la urbanización. Sotogrande fue el primer trabajo del diseñador en Europa y marcó un hito en la construcción de campos a este lado del Atlántico, no solo por el soberbio diseño que realizó el maestro Trent Jones, sino por las innovaciones que rodearon el proyecto: fue el primer campo de Europa sembrado con Bermuda 419 y el primero en instalar un sistema de riego totalmente automatizado. En 1965 se inauguró la casa club, obra del arquitecto Luis Gutiérrez Soto, y en 1966 el RCG Sotogrande vivió su primera gran cita con los mejores jugadores de Europa en el Open de España que ganó Roberto de Vicenzo con

Its founder, Joseph McMicking, chose this enclave in the south of Spain to develop the best residential area of the time and as the nucleus and backbone of this ambitious project. 279 golpes. Solo un año después y con 44 años, el argentino se convirtió en el jugador más longevo en ganar el Open Británico, tras un apasionante duelo con Jack Nicklaus y Gary Player. El magnífico diseño de Robert Trent Jones fue rápidamente apreciado tanto por los jugadores amateurs como los profesionales, lo que convirtió a Sotogrande en una prestigiosa sede de competiciones. En 1970 nació la Copa Jerez, origen del actual Campeonato Europeo de las Naciones Copa RCG Sotogrande, que recibe cada año a los mejores amateurs de una veintena de países europeos y que cuenta en su palmarés con ganadores de la talla de Padraig Harrington, Sergio García, o Rory McIlroy. En el año 1973 se celebró en Sotogrande el VII Campeonato de Europa Amateur Femenino en el que se proclamó vencedor el equipo de Inglaterra seguido de Francia, Suecia y España. El Club formó parte de la Urbanización Sotogrande hasta 1979, año en el que los socios adquirieron el campo, dando origen al que es considerado hoy en día como uno de los mejores clubes de socios de toda Europa. Sotogrande fue el escenario del Campeonato de España Amateur de 1983, en el que se impuso un jovencísimo José María Olazábal, ganador del Masters de Augusta 1994 y 1999. Cinco años después, el Club presenció la victoria del genial Severiano Ballesteros en el Campeonato de España de Profesionales de 1987. Ballesteros era entonces número dos del ranking mundial y contaba con cuatro Grandes: Open Británico de 1979 y 1982 y Masters de Augusta de 1980 y 1983, lo que no impidió que librara un reñido duelo con Pepín Rivero para ganar el Campeonato. Seve dejó buenas muestras de su inigualable talento como el golpe que dio en el hoyo 16 el último día, embocando desde el bunker para prácticamente sentenciar la victoria. Entre 1996 y 2001, el recorrido de Trent Jones acogió junto a San Roque la final de la Escuela de Clasificación para el Circuito Europeo. En este campo obtuvieron la tarjeta jugadores como Ian Poulter, Geoff Ogilvy, Justin Rose, Niclas Fasth o Nicolas Colsaerts. En 1994, el Rey Juan Carlos I concedió a Sotogrande el título de Real. Desde su origen, el Club ha contado con seis presidentes, Alfredo Melián, (1964 a 1979), Emma Villacieros de García-Ogara (1979 -1989), Walter Rodríguez Figueroa (1989 – 1997), José Antonio Polanco (1997 – 2005), Antonio Martín Urquijo (2005-2010) y el presidente actual, Felipe Oriol Díaz de Bustamante.

Jones realised, but also in the innovations that surrounded the project: it was the first course in Europe to be seeded with Bermuda 419 and the first to install a totally automatic system of irrigation. In 1965 the clubhouse was inaugurated, having been built by the architect Luis Gutiérrez Soto. In 1965, the RSGC held its first major tournament, with the best players in Europe competing in the Spanish Open Championship, eventually won by Roberto de Vicenzo with a total of 279. One year later, at the age of 44, the Argentinean became the oldest player to win the British Open, after an exciting duel with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. The magnificent design by Robert Trent Jones quickly became highly appreciated by both amateurs and professionals, thus turning Sotogrande into a prestigious venue for competitions. In 1970 the Sherry Cup was born, the original version of the present-day European Championship of Nations Cup at RSGC, which is presented every year to the best amateur from 20 European countries and provides a huge boost to his CV, alongside former winners of the stature of Padraig Harrington, Sergio García and Rory McIlroy. In 1973 the VII Ladies European Championship was contested in Sotogrande. The winners were England followed by France, Sweden and Spain. The club remained part of the Sotogrande urbanisation until 1979, when the members acquired the course. Today it is considered to be one of the best members´ clubs in Europe. Sotogrande was the venue for the Spanish Amateur Championship of 1983. The winner was a very youthful José María Olazábal, who later won the US Masters at Augusta in 1994 and 1999. Nearly five years later, the club presided over the victory of the legendary Severiano Ballesteros in the Spanish Professional Championship of 1987. Ballesteros was number two in the world ranking at the time and had won four majors: the British Open in 1979 and 1982, and the US Masters in 1980 and 1983. This did not prevent him from having to fight a heroic battle with Pepín Rivero to win the championship. Seve left wonderful examples of his matchless talent, including the shot he holed on the last day from a greenside bunker on the 16th which virtually sealed his victory. Between 1996 and 2001 the Trent Jones course, together with San Roque Club, hosted the European Tour Qualifying School. On these two courses European Tour cards were obtained by players of the calibre of Ian Poulter, Geoff Ogilvy, Justin Rose, Niclas Fasth and Nicholas Colsaerts. In 1994, King Juan Carlos I granted Sotogrande the title of Real (Royal). “Nos espera un arduo trabajo” El reelegido presidente de la RFGA tiene importantes retos en su mandato, entre ellos reducir la alta morosidad que sufre la entidad

Tras un turbulento proceso electoral que ha tardado en dirimirse dos años y en el que no han faltado acciones judiciales por parte de las candidaturas en liza, por fin la Real Federación Andaluza de Golf (RFGA) tiene presidente: Ángel de la Riva. El que fuera máximo mandatario de la Federación Andaluza Oriental de Golf (constituida en 1968 con sólo cuatro campos), germen de la FGA, nacida en 1979 y que presidió en numerosas ocasiones, ha hecho una profunda renovación en su junta directiva y retoma sus responsabilidades al frente de la entidad con muchas ganas de trabajar. La verdad es que le harán falta para recuperar la buena imagen de la institución que preside y para intentar aliviar la situación económica de la RFGA, muy delicada por culpa de la morosidad de unos cuantos campos y clubes de golf. Ésta será la última vez que De la Riva, de 74 años y al que le gusta que le califiquen como El Quijote del Golf, esté al frente de la RFGA, ya que –asegura– no volverá a concurrir a la próxima cita electoral por la presidencia. –¿Cuántos años durará el presente mandato: dos o cuatro? –Sobre el papel, dos, puesto que la norma de la Junta de Andalucía dice que las elecciones son cada cuatro años coincidiendo con las Juegos Olímpicos de verano, pero yo supongo que el que hace la ley piensa que las elecciones van a ser normales y que vas a estar sin presidencia desde el primero de abril hasta pri-

meros de agosto de ese año olímpico. Ahora, cuando se está desde el primer de abril hasta dos años después, creo que hay pie para solicitar a la Secretaría de Deporte que la presidencia dure cuatro años porque tenemos un plan de actuaciones para ese tiempo. A mí me gustaría que la Secretaría considerase esta situación, pero tengo mis dudas. Por si acaso, si no lo prorrogan, tengo un proyecto para intentar completarlo en dos años.

–¿Qué es lo que más le duele de estos dos largos años de bronco proceso electoral? –Lo que más me duele es que se le ha hecho daño a la Federación. Yo creo que la buena imagen de la institución se va a recuperar. Desde luego, si se aprueban los nuevos estatutos, se recupera. Lo que ha pasado es que la comisión gestora ha estado atada de pies y manos, y ha habido gente que ha querido hacer daño a la Federación. Por mi parte, tengo tranquilidad de conciencia porque he actuado en todo momento con rectitud y buena fe. Hay mucha gente que quiere mucho a esta Federación, pero no acepto que haya alguien que la quiera más que yo, porque me hicieron primer presidente el siglo pasado de una Federación que nacía con cuatro campos y que ahora

mismo tiene 99 campos federados. –¿Cuál es la situación económica actual de la RFGA? –Es mala, sobre todo por la elevada morosidad. Además han bajado los ingresos al haber menos federados y también porque las subvenciones de la Junta de Andalucía han caído a cero, y nos daban 25.000 euros. La deuda de los clubes con la Federación ha subido de 100.000 euros, cuando se celebraron las elecciones, hace dos años, a 600.000 euros. El número de licencias ha disminuido de 51.000 a 43.000, y sólo en lo que va de este año se han reducido en 3.000. Así pues, nos espera un arduo trabajo para intentar sanear las cuentas y evitar tan alta morosidad. Éste va a ser uno de nuestros objetivos principales para el presente mandato. Para ello, haremos planes de viabilidad personalizados con el objetivo de que los campos y clubes puedan ir saldando sus deudas. Lo que está claro es que la filosofía cambia totalmente: hay que conseguir un ahorro impresionante porque la situación obliga. Hay que intentar conseguir lo que llaman ingresos atípicos, por ejemplo a través de un club de patrocinadores, hay que vender la antigua sede y tenemos que esforzarnos también en captar más campos y hacerles ver las ventajas que supone pertenecer a la Federación. –¿Cuáles son esas ventajas? –Son muchos los beneficios para los campos de golf que se federan. Por ejemplo, pueden procesar cualquier tipo de competición a efectos de subida y bajada de hándicap (los no federados no pueden hacerlo), pueden utilizar el programa de gestión de competiciones que gratuitamente le ofrece la RFGA; benefificarse de la póliza de seguros que cubre los accidentes de la licencia temporal; utilziar el sistema slope por ser propiedad de la USGA con utilizaAndalucía Golf / España Golf

NUEVA JUNTA DIRECTIVA Las principales funciones de la Junta Directiva son, entre otras, la confección del calendario deportivo, elaboración de los presupuestos y la propuesta para la aprobación y modificación de los reglamentos internos de la RFGA. Entre las novedades para el presente mandato destaca el nombramiento de Miguel Navarro Álvarez como Secretario General y Gerente del organismo. Javier Ibáñez de Aldecoa Silvela, Antonio Vergara Pérez y Ángel Gutiérrez López ocuparán los cargos Miguel Navarro de Vicepresidente Primero, Segundo y Tercero, respectivamente. El área económica también ha experimentado cambios, con la incorporación de Carlos Ramón de Fata González como Tesorero. En lo concierne a los Comités Técnicos, Antonio Fuentes García (Comité de Pitch & Putt), Diego Molina Peso (Comité de Reglas) y Eugenio Alises Ripoll (Comité de Campos y Hándicap) repiten respecto a la anterior legislatura. Asimismo, se incorporan como Presidentes María Salvador Escribano (Comité Infantil y Juvenil), Luis Mansilla García (Comité Masculino), Luis Navarro Álvarez (Comité Comercial de Campos y Promoción), Luis Martínez Galán (Comité de Golf Adaptado) y Pablo Mansilla García (Comité de Profesionales y Director Deportivo). Candelaria Flores Montilla, que en los últimos años ha dirigido el Comité de Golf Adaptado, encabezará el Comité Femenino. Se crea el Comité de Relaciones Institucionales, Prensa y Protocolo, que estará coordinado por Salvador F. Pérez Mérida. Por su parte, Francisco Cervilla Rodríguez presidirá por primera vez el Comité de Seniors junto con la Vocalía de Extranjeros. El resto de Vocales que formarán parte de esta Junta Directiva son Fernando Pacheco Lavado (Medio Ambiente), Manuel Martín Lara (Clubs Sin Campo), María José Fernández Márquez y Emilio Lustau Ortiz Latierro. Al igual que años anteriores, José Agustín Gómez-Raggio Carrera repite como Asesor Jurídico. Delegados Provinciales Por último, otra de las grandes novedades para esta nueva etapa es la creación de los delegados provinciales, siendo nombrados María José Fernández Márquez (Almería), Humberto Ybarra Coello de Portugal (Cádiz), Milagros Luque Escribano (Córdoba), Daniel Cabello Sánchez (Granada), Joaquín Rodríguez Rovira (Huelva), Antonio Sánchez-Roselly Rodríguez (Jaén), Candelaria Flores Montilla (Sevilla) e Ignacio Javier Iturbe Escolano (Malaga), que también ejercerá de Adjunto a la Presidencia.

cia Tributaria, etc.), ha conseguido importantes beneficios para los campos, como aplicación de impuestos especiales, carburante agrícola para el uso en campos de golf, etc. –¿Qué posibilidades hay de que se produzca una bajada del IVA para los campos de golf? –Hemos tenido ya reuniones al respecto con la Secretaría de Estado de Hacienda y nos han dado esperanzas, aunque hay que ser cauteloso y realista porque somos conscientes de que no lo bajarán si antes no bajan el de otros sectores. En el Ministerio en-

tienden nuestra petición, pero políticamente es problemático porque, si bajan el IVA del golf, los señores de cine, de la cultura, etc., van a decir que por qué a ellos no. –¿Por qué en esta legislatura se nombran delegados provinciales? –Para poder tener elecciones en cada provincia en la próxima convocatoria electoral. Antes las teníamos en todas las provincias y cuando pedimos permiso a la Junta de Andalucía se nos dijo que lo podíamos hacer, siempre y cuando no hubiese alguien que lo impugnase, por aquello de que era obligatorio tener delegados provinciales. –¿Qué opina de las gestas que está protagonizando últimante el malagueño Miguel Ángel Jiménez? –Ahora va a recibir muy merecidamente la Medalla de Oro de la Provincia y creo que todo lo que se le dé es poco porque, aparte de que es un gran amigo mío, es un deportista ejemplar. Es un orgullo para Málaga, Andalucía y España tener a Miguel Ángel. Vamos a solicitar, a ver si se puede en vida, porque los españoles damos los homenajes al muerto, darle una calle a Miguel Ángel. Se le ha dado a Antonio Banderas, a poetas, a personas de la cultura, y me parece que estaría bien hacerlo con una gran figura del deporte. Por otra parte, voy a proponerle, como presidente de la RFGA, que forme parte del comité de asesores de la Federación, que se reunirá una vez al año o en cualquier ocasión que lo requiera una cuestión de importancia.

This is the last time that 74-year-old De la Riva – who likes to be known as the “Quixote of Golf” – will be presiding over the RFGA, as he insists he will not stand for president at the next election. - What is the economic situation with the RFGA? - It’s bad, especially due to the high bad debt. In addition, revenue has decreased because there are fewer registered members and also because Junta de Andalucía (regional government) subsidies have fallen to zero, and they gave us €25,000. The club’s debt with the federation has increased from €100,000, when the elections were called two years ago, to €600,000. The number of registrations has dropped from 51,000 to 43,000, and this year alone it has been reduced by 3,000. So some hard work awaits us to try to sort out the accounts and avoid such high debt. That will be one of our main objectives during the current term. To that end, we will carry out personalised viability plans with the aim of enabling courses and clubs to pay off their debits. What is clear is that the philosophy has completely changed: we have to achieve impressive savings because the situation calls for it. We have to secure what is known as atypical 52

revenue, for example, through a sponsors club; the old headquarters has to be sold; and we have to make a bigger effort to attract more courses and make them see the advantages of belonging to the federation. - What are these advantages? - There are many benefits for golf courses joining the federation. For example, they can process all competitions when it comes to increases and reductions in handicap (non-federation members can’t do this); use the competition management programme that the RFGA provides for free; benefit from the insurance policy that covers accidents related to temporary licence-holders; use the slope system, as it’s owned by the USGA, with exclusive use by courses that are federation members with a licence granted by the EGA; hold official competitions under the auspices of the RFGA and Royal Spanish Golf Federation (REFEG); include their courses in the RFEG and RFGA’s official calendars; guides, websites and attendance at specialised fairs… However, in addition to these and other advantages, the RFGA – through contacts by its commercial golf courses com-

mittee with official organisations (regional government, tax office, etc.) – has been able to secure major benefits for courses, such as the application of special taxes, agricultural fuel for use on courses, etc. - What is your opinion about the latest achievements of Málaga’s Miguel Ángel Jiménez? - He is going to receive a very well deserved Provincial Gold Medal and I believe that everything they grant him is too little because, apart from being a great friend of mine, he is an exemplary sportsman. It’s a matter of great pride for Málaga, Andalucía and Spain to have someone like Miguel Ángel. We are going to seek – if it’s possible during someone’s life, because we Spaniards usually only pay such tribute on death – that a street be named in his honour. They’ve given one to Antonio Banderas, poets, people from the cultural scene, and I believe it would be a good idea to do the same for a great sports figure. Also, I’m going to propose, as president of the RFGA, that he joins the federation’s advisory committee, which meets once a year or on other occasions that require consideration of an important issue.

Escenario de torneos del Circuito Europeo y de importantes competiciones amateurs, Aloha es un campo en constante evolución y renovación, y en los últimos cuatro años se ha realizado una actualización muy importante de las instalaciones del club para mejorar su nivel. “Recientemente hemos renovado la Casa Club, el Chiringuito del Hoyo 9, y ampliado el aparcamiento con una nueva planta más. A ﬁnales del año pasado inauguramos nuestro nuevo Health Club, ampliando nuestra oferta de servicios para nuestros Socios (Restaurante, Piscina, Fisioterapia, Escuela de Golf) y haciendo de Aloha uno de los Clubes más completos de la Costa”, señala el director del club, Rafael García Buitrago. “Siempre hemos cuidado el campo”, añade, “pero ahora, si cabe, lo hacemos aún con más ahínco para que esté perfecto. Creo que hemos hecho muy bien los deberes, y además con el valor añadido de que Aloha ha hecho este gran esfuerzo en una época de crisis. Con esta apuesta por la calidad, seguiremos siendo un club de referencia en la Costa del Sol”. Destaca su director que Aloha es un club muy activo en lo tocante a competiciones, tanto abiertas como para socios. “Nuestra temporada menos activa es el verano”, explica, “porque nuestros socios son mayoritariamente del norte de Europa y muchos vuelven a su tierra en esa época, por lo que podemos aprovechar para organizar eventos patrocinados abiertos”. Otro evento importante de Aloha es el Pro Am Memorial Andrés Jiménez, que organiza el club en diciembre desde hace muchos años y que cuenta con la participación estelar de Miguel Ángel Jiménez. “Se celebra durante un fin

Our aim is that people can enjoy the club as if it’s theirs.” Another major event at Aloha is the Andrés Jiménez Memorial pro-Am, held in December for many years now and highlighted by the star participation of Miguel Ángel Jiménez. “It’s held over a weekend, brings together numerous professionals, and there is a spectacular atmosphere,” says the club manager. Also held at Aloha is a tournament in aid of children suﬀering from “butterﬂy skin syndrome” (epidermolysis bullosa), a key annual event on the Costa del Sol that attracts nearly 200 players, as well as the “Golf Valley” event held in conjunction with Las Brisas, and many other competitions.

Unfortunately, it is no longer commonplace to build courses like this: i.e. no houses, expansive and in the best possible area. The venue for European Tour events and major amateur competitions, Aloha is a course that undergoes constant evolution and renovation, and over the past four years there has been a major revamp of the club in order to improve the already high level of its amenities. “Recently we have renovated the clubhouse and chiringuito (hut) on the ninth hole, and expanded the parking area with a new storey. At the end of last year we inaugurated our new health club, thus boosting the range of services for our members (restaurant, pool, physiotherapy, golf school) and converting Aloha into one of the most comprehensively diverse clubs on the Coast,” says Rafael García Buitrago. “We have always taken good care of the course, but now we doing so even more diligently – if that’s possible! – to ensure it is perfect. We believe we have done our homework very well, with the added value that Aloha has made such a great eﬀort during a period of crisis. One of the highlights is the Aloha Cup, an initiative by club president Rafael Fontán, scheduled for mid-August. “We want people to come along and enjoy our club,” says Rafael García Buitrago, “and the best time is summer, when it’s quieter and members’ play isn’t aﬀected so much. Испанию? Каковой являлась цель Вашего приезда в Испанию, на Коста дель Соль? С 1 по 15 апреля в Испании мы провели тренировочный подготовительный сбор, который проходил по линии АГР. Для многих это был первый выход после ноября прошлого года на траву, на газоны. На сборе присутствовало 10 спортсменов, 9 из которых являются учениками «Московской школы гольфа». Состав команды был следующим: 1) Пономарёв Н. (взрослый, основной состав) 2) Протасова Е. (взрослый, основной состав) 3) Ерёмина К. (взрослый, основной состав) 4) Анохина С. (ШВСМ «Крылатское», взрослый, основной состав) Целью для приезда на тренировку, в первую очередь была подготовка юниорского состава сборной команды России к международному командному турниру в

Венгрии «Олимпийские Надежды» который прошел с 15 по 21 апреля 2014, и проверка спортивной формы кандидатов сборной России по гольфу на 2014 год. Одним из самых важных моментов этой встречи, являлось определение и по возможности устранение слабых сторон техники с помощью новейших технологий (K – Vest, Trackman, V - 1), снять, что называется, технические параметры ребят – в России нет таких возможностей. Нет ни оборудования, ни специалистов, которые могут дать обоснованное заключение над чем гольфисту надо работать. Как проходили Ваши дни? Вы все время проводили тренировки? Каждый день с ребятами занимался специалист по ОФП и СФП: проверялась физическая работоспособность игроков, направленная на развитие специальных качеств гольфистов. После выявления слабых сторон в технике в физической форме каждому спортсмену были даны индивидуальные упражнения, которые были показаны и отработаны во время сбора. Ребята получили хорошую и правильную нагрузку на все группы мышц, ко-

торые используются в гольфе. Сразу сделали акцент на физическую подготовку – без нее в большом спорте уже не добиться результатов. Были проведены сессии с разбором и с устранением ошибок по свингу, короткой игре и паттингу. В течение сбора проводились контрольные матчи между спортсменами в формате матчплей, для подготовки юниорского состава к предстоящему соревнованию. Трое членов сборной участвовали в двухдневном международном турнире, организованном Jason Floyd Golf Academy. В конце сбора было проведено двухдневное контрольное соревнование в формате строукплей. Какие параметры Вас интересовали ? К примеру, вращение мяча после удара. Для этого используются видеокамера и специальные датчики. Этот параметр очень важен для спортсменов высокой квалификации, у кого гандикапы сингл и даже плюсовые… Второй параметр – угол вращения частей тела, и правильное взаимодействие бедер, плеч. Словом, техника свинга. Кроме этого, параметры полёта мяча. На основании всех данных можно давать рекомендации и исправлять конкретные ошибки. Andalucía Golf / España Golf

"En dos años tendremos 50 campos de golf en Marruecos" Marruecos comienza a ser un destino de golf a tener muy en cuenta. La variedad y calidad de sus campos, la atractiva oferta complementaria, donde se mezcla el lujo de sus hoteles con el exotismo cultural, están convirtiendo a este país en objeto de deseo para los aficionados europeos. Moulay Rachid Alaoui, Consejero del Presidente de la Real Federación de Golf de Marruecos, asegura que en apenas dos años su país contará con más de cincuenta campos de golf, una cifra que comienza a ser importante y a ser considerada. “Ahora”, dice, “hay unos treinta campos localizados sobre todo en la zona de Marrakech,

donde hay once, Agadir, Casablanca, Rabat, y el norte del país. En la actualidad contamos con unos diez mil federados". –Cifra que va creciendo, ¿no? –Sí, creciendo y mucho. El golf oficialmente comenzó en Marruecos hace exactamente cien años, en 1914, con la construcción del primer campo de golf en Tánger, aunque se sabe que ya en 1897 se jugaba al golf en esta ciudad, que era la capital diplomática del reino. Como no podía ser de otra forma fueron los ingleses quienes introdujeron este deporte. –¿También en Marruecos conciben el golf como una atracción turística, imagino? .–Por supuesto. Aunque en los campos de Rabat, Casablanca y Tánger hay muchísimos socios locales, el golf es una baza importante para nuestro desarrollo turístico. Y en esto queremos seguir el ejemplo de España, que ha triunfado en este tema y es un espejo en el que mirarnos. Nuestros visitantes ahora son sobre todo franceses; el mercado inglés y el escandinavo todavía no tienen mucha presencia, pero estamos tratando de posicionarnos también

en esos países, y en España, por supuesto. –Los nuevos campos en proyecto y construcción, veinte en total, ¿en qué zonas se están haciendo? –Por todo Marruecos, aunque sobre todo en Marrakech y el norte. En Tánger, por ejemplo, se está haciendo otro campo diseñado por Vijay Singh. "Tenemos la ventaja", añade Moulay Rachid, "de tener muy buenos campos construidos antes del boom inmobiliario y, tras este, tenemos mucha precaución para que no se hagan campos solo para vender casas. As to be expected, it was the British who introduced the sport. - Morocco presumably also conceived golf as a tourist attraction? - Certainly. Even though in Rabat, Casablanca and Tangier there are many local members, golf is a key tool in the development of our tourism industry. We want to follow the example of Spain, which has triumphed in this respect and is a mirror into which we look at ourselves. Our visitors at the moment are mainly French; the British and Scandinavian markets don’t have a great presence yet, but we are working on positioning ourselves in those countries, and in Spain of course.

- There are 20 new courses in total planned or under construction. In what areas are they being built? - Throughout Morocco, although mainly in Marrakech and the north. In Tangier, for example, there is another course designed by Vijay Singh. “We have the advantage,” adds Moulay Rachid, “of having very good courses built before the real estate boom and, following that, we have been very cautious not to build courses just to sell homes. COCINA CON RECUERDO Un ajo blanco con sashimi de gamba y fruta de la pasión o un salmorejo de fresas con anchoas. Estas son algunas de las propuestas con las que nos tienta la nueva carta de primavera del Restaurante del Casino Marbella. Y es que los ingredientes de temporada son la base de una cocina en la que prima la calidad y los sabores más auténticos de la Gastronomía Mediterránea. Al frente de los fogones, su chef, Agustín Román, realiza personalmente una cuidadosa selección de la materia prima. Después, “a la cazuela”, siempre con el recuerdo de la cocina de su abuela y de su tía cuyos olores y sabores perduran en la mente del chef e inspiran sus creaciones. Porque la simpleza en la cocina soporta los envites de la modernidad y convierte un “huevo trufado con espárragos y jamón” en algo delicioso. Este plato es otra de las apuestas ganadoras de una carta que, sin duda pasaría el corte de los paladares más exquisitos. Y si no, la merluza al cava, que inicialmente era a la sidra,

será otra gran oportunidad para que este restaurante esté entre los grandes. Pero sin duda, el hoyo en uno de esta carta es la Tierna paletilla de Cordero con salsa de sobrasada y miel….insuperable. Con más de 24 horas de cocción la carne se deshace en boca provocando una explosión de sabores difícil de superar. Pero ahí no acaba la cena porque aquí siempre será imprescindible dejar un espacio libre para el postre. El huertecito de fresas sería capaz de quitarnos de la cabeza aquella horrible salida de bunker que nos ha hecho pasar tan mal rato. Y si esa no es la solución, siempre nos queda su extensa bodega de vinos y cavas. Un equipo de profesionales liderados por su maitre, Gerard Vall-Llaura, nos aconseja la mejor combinación

entre platos y vinos. El gran equilibrio existente entre la cocina y servicio convierten al Restaurante del Casino en un espacio único para el deleite de los paladares más exquisitos. Además ofrece un menú degustación, menús especiales para celebraciones y menús para grupos. El espacio, elegante y selecto tiene permanentemente una exposición de pintura o fotografía. Con este fin han constituido el club de producto Sea & Joy, uno de los cinco creados y promovidos por el Consorcio Qualifica y la Confederación de Empresarios de Málaga (CEM). Los otros son el Club de Ocio (Fun&Sun), El Club de Salud, Belleza y Bienestar (Med&Beauty), el Club Mice Costa del Sol (centrado en el turismo de reuniones y eventos), y el Club de Golf (Costa del Sol Golf Club). Sea & Joy aglutina toda clase de actividades náuticas, aventuras marítimas, experiencias marineras, embarcaciones de recreo, puertos deportivos, deportes náuticos, y un sinfín de opciones para disfrutar del mar en la Costa del Sol, donde es posible vivir el mar todos los días del año. Fueron dos días cargados de actividades en los que se alternó salidas en barco: clásico y catamarán de lujo; turismo marinero, con visita a la cofradía de pescadores de Estepona, que ha elaborado un programa para mostrar a los turístas muy de cerca como se hacen las faenas de pesca; muestras gastronómicas, con catas de vino

de la región; y, para acabar el último día, un recorrido en kayak por el río Guadiaro. Si lo que pretendían los organizadores de las jornadas era mostrar las múltiples posibilidades de hacer turismo náutico que hay en la zona, seguro que lo consiguieron.

A club that aims to boost the Costa del Sol’s nautical and marine industry A group of Costa del Sol companies and tourist amenities specialising in the development of activities related to the sea have combined their efforts to highlight the great potential that the western part of the Coast has in this tourist sector. This is the main objective of the marine product club Sea & Joy, one of five created and promoted by the Consorcio Qualifica consortium and Confederación de Empresarios de Málaga business confederation (CEM). The others are Fun & Sun (leisure), Med & Beauty (health, beauty and wellbeing), Mice Costa del Sol (meeting and events tourism) and Costa del Sol Golf Club. Sea & Joy brings together all nautical activities, water adventure, sea experiences, recreational boats, marinas, water sports and an endless number of other options for enjoying the sea on the Costa del Sol – a possibility that exists every day of the year. From water skiing, sailing classes, sports fishing, diving and jet-skis to dolphin spotting, parasailing, windsurfing, padel surf, sailing trips and kayaking… a wide range of activities is

Coinciding with the presentation, the promoters of the initiative, the Consorcio Qualifica consortium and CEM, organised a familiarisation trip for the press, including representatives

of media specialising in nautical activities, other sports and general lifestyle. Over two days they were shown the nautical-sport-gastronomic-tourist-boating potential of the western Costa del Sol. The two days were full of activities, highlighted by boat trips, traditional luxury and catamaran; sea-based tourism, including a visit to the fishermen’s guild, which has created a programme to give tourists a close-up view of fishing practices; gastronomic exhibitions, with tastings of wines from the region; and, to end the final day, a kayak trip on the Guadiaro river. If the aim of the organisers was to showcase the numerous options for nautical tourism in the area, they certainly achieved that.

NOTICIAS DE LA REAL FEDERACIÓN José de la Torre, Pedro Vilchez y Pilar Nuin, ganadores del quinto torneo del Circuito Seniors de Andalucía El recorrido jienense del Parque Deportivo La Garza (Linares) ha albergado el quinto torneo del Circuito Seniors de Andalucía 2014. Cabe recordar que esta prueba, organizada conjuntamente por el Comité de Seniors de la Real Federación Andaluza de Golf y el Club de Golf La Garza se juega en tres categorías (dos de caballeros y una de damas) a 18 hoyos bajo la modalidad Stableford Hándicap. En lo que concierne a los vencedores, en primera categoría de caballeros, José de la Torre Cantón (Club de Golf La Garza) se benefició de la diferencia de hándicap para deshacer el empate a 35 puntos con José Lázaro López Carrillo (Club de Golf Jaén). El tercer puesto, a un solo punto de la cabeza de la tabla, fue para Salvador Gandía Egea (Club de Golf Ciudad de Linares). Respecto a la segunda categoría de caballeros, Pedro Vilchez Jiménez (Parque Deportivo La Garza) se alzó con un triunfo incostestable después de acumular 44 puntos. Lorenzo Torres Magriña (Club de Golf La Garza) concluyó segundo a siete golpes del ganador. Por su parte, Juan Antonio León Morente (Club de Campo y Deporte Golf Scratch) igualado a 34 puntos con Antonio Fernández Gonzalez (Club de Golf Hato Verde) ocupó la tercera plaza. Y en cuanto a la categoría de Damas, Pilar Nuin Armendariz, también con licencia federativa por el Club de Golf La Garza, superó por hándicap de juego a su compañera de club Lucrecia Cubero Mazariegos tras concluir ambas con un idéntico resultado de 38 puntos. María del Carmen González Martín (Club de Golf Los Moriscos), autora de una cartulina de 36 puntos, finalizó en tercera posición. Tras concluir la competición, dio comienzo el acto de entrega de premios en el que estuvieron presentes Francisco Cervilla, Presidente del Comité de Seniors de la Real Federación Andaluza de Golf; Antonio Sánchez-Roselly, Delegado Provincial en Jaén de la RFGA; Manuel Bonilla, Presidente del Comité de Competición del Club de Golf La Garza; Manuel Amat, Secretario del club linarense; y Francisco Martínez, Tesorero del Club de Golf La Garza.

Recital de Felipe Barrena en el Campeonato de Andalucía Sub 16 de Pitch & Putt en Guadalmina Felipe Barrena Rodríguez fue el gran protagonista del Campeonato de Andalucía Sub 16 de Pitch & Putt 2014, disputado en el Real Club de Golf Guadalmina (San Pedro de Alcántara, Marbella). Esta edición será recordada por la exhibición de juego del golfista local, que se ha adjudicado el título con un soberbio registro de 99 golpes (-9). El malagueño se situó líder al término de la primera jornada gracias a una excelente vuelta de 51 golpes (-3). El segundo y definitivo día, Barrena se ha mostrado intratable tras entregar en casa club una estratosférica tarjeta de 48 golpes (-6) con un eagle (hoyo en uno), cinco birdies y un solo bogey, en el 18. En cuanto al resto de vencedores scratch, otros dos golfistas locales, Ángel Hidalgo Portillo y Lukas Pany, que finalizó empatado con Alex Field, se han impuesto en categoría Cadete e Infantil, respectivamente. puesto del pasado año, pero esta vez en categoría Alevín. En benjamines, Ángel Ayora Fanegas salió victorioso con una ronda de 31 golpes. En las clasificaciones hándicap, Gonzalo Noguerol Fajardo logró el triunfo en categoría Cadete, mientras que Javier Quero Ruiz hizo lo propio entre los infantiles. En categoría Alevín, José García Chacón superó por la mínima a Mario Valverde Palomino. Finalmente, el benjamín Pablo Hidalgo Portillo, que también venció en 2013, sumó la cuarta victoria para el club anfitrión.

Pruebas del Circuito Internacional Femenino en el RCG Guadalmina y Santa Clara Golf Granada María José Granados Galán, María del Mar Vallejo Álvarez, María Luisa Correa Vázquez y Mónica Navarro-Rubio Troisfontaines ganaron la segunda prueba de la Zona B del Circuito Internacional Femenino, celebrada en el trazado nazarí de Santa Clara Golf Granada. El conjunto de Los Moriscos Golf terminó con un total de 100 puntos, dos más que Juana Asencio Sepúlveda, Hugrun Audur Jomsdottir, Karin Ockerse y María Fernández Fernández. La tercera plaza, también con 98 puntos, ha sido para Toñi García Alcalá, Rosario Fernández Torres, Concepción Sánchez Manrique y María Pilar Bravo Casas. Marcus Svensson se impone en La Cala en el Campeonato de España Sub-16 REALE 2014 Marcus Svensson se adjudicÓ la victoria en el Campeonato de España Sub-16 REALE 2014, que se disputó a lo largo de tres jornadas en las magníficas instalaciones de La Cala Resort (Mijas Costa, Málaga). El jugador del Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, que alcanzó el liderato al término del segundo día después de rubricar una vuelta de 71 golpes (-1), entregó la mejor tarjeta en la tercera y última jornada (70 golpes), para acabar con un total de 214 golpes y una ventaja de tres sobre el balear Joan Tous, que con sus 71 golpes fue segundo en la clasificación ge-

neral (campeón de España Sub-16). A continuación, cabe resaltar la brillante actuación del infantil Gonzalo Leal. El jugador del Centro Especializado de Tecnificación Deportiva (CETD) de La Cañada, finalizó en la tercera plaza (subcampeón de España Sub-16) gracias a una última manga de 74 golpes. El golfista federado por el Real Club de Golf de Sevilla acumuló 219 golpes (73+72+74), cinco más que Marcus Svensson. En el Top 10 también acabó el cordobés Antonio José Bejarano (Club de Golf Pozoblanco), octavo con 224 golpes.

Toscano y Mateo ganan el Campeonato de Huelva José Mateo Mateo y María Teresa Toscano Borrero resultaron brillantes vencedores de la trigésimo tercera edición del Campeonato de Huelva, prueba puntuable para los Rankings Masculino, Femenino y Junior de Andalucía, que se disputó en el Club Bellavista (Aljaraque). En categoría masculina, José Mateo fue el gran protagonista de la primera jornada tras rubricar una sensacional vuelta de 66 golpes (-4) que le permitió situarse en lo más alto de la tabla.Ya en la ronda final, el golfista gaditano entregó una tarjeta de 71 golpes (+1) para certificar, con enorme autoridad, su segundo triunfo consecutivo en el torneo. La segunda plaza, a seis golpes del campeón, fue para Enrique Marín Santander, mientras que el jugador local José Carlos Álvarez Parralo ocupó el tercer puesto con 144 golpes.

En cuanto a la prueba femenina, la navarra Elena Hualde, que comenzó los 18 hoyos finales a cuatro golpes de Alejandra Pasarín, consiguió superar a la asturiana con una vuelta de 70 golpes para llevarse una trabajada y merecida victoria por un solo golpe de diferencia sobre la valenciana Marta Pérez, que con 68 golpes, el mejor resultado del día, escaló hasta la segunda posición. La malagueña Ana Peláez (Golf Río Real), octava, fue la mejor andaluza con un global de 220 golpes (70+75+75). Entre las diez primeras clasificadas en este Campeonato de España también terminó la malagueña Sara García (El Paraíso Golf Club) con tres rondas de 75,72 y 74 golpes.

Mario Galiano suma un nuevo triunfo en el Campeonato de Barcelona Mario Galiano suma y sigue. Si hace un mes lograba una brillante victoria en el Campeonato de Madrid, en mayo levantaba su segundo título individual de la temporada en el Campeonato de Barcelona, prueba puntuable para los Rankings Mundial, Nacional y Andaluz, que se jugó durante cuatro jornadas en el Real Club de Golf de El Prat. El gaditano conquistó este nuevo éxito para su espectacular palmarés con un extraordinario eagle en el sexto hoyo del desempate que le enfrentaba a Jordi Panés. Galiano y el golfista catalán tuvieron que salir a play off tras presentar dos magníficas vueltas de 67 y 65 golpes para 284 (-4) al total. El barcelonés tuvo sus opciones de victoria, especialmente en el tercer y cuarto hoyo, pero una vez más el jugador andaluz volvió a hacer gala de su carácter ganador para proclamarse campeón en un torneo que ha liderado desde la primera jornada. Respecto al resto de representantes de Andalucía, resaltar la actuación del sevillano Pablo Rodríguez-Taberneo, sexto con 300 golpes. Muere de un infarto un caddie en pleno torneo Sergio García ya es séptimo del mundo Sergio García subió en mayo dos posiciones y se colocó en la séptima plaza del ranking mundial gracias a su buena actuación en el TPC Sawgrass de Ponte Vedra, torneo del Circuito Americano en el que finalizó en tercera posición, a dos golpes del campeón, el alemán Martin Kaymer, y uno de Jim Furyk. Las tres primeras plazas de la clasificación mundial no sufren variación alguna, con Tiger Woods primero, Adam Scott segundo y Henrik Stenson tercero. El norirlandés Rory Mcllroy vuelve de nuevo al Top 10 al situarse en décima posición en detrimento de Phil Mickelson, que baja tres puestos. Entre los cien primeros del ranking mundial figuraban en mayo otros tres españoles: Miguel Ángel Jiménez, 34º, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, 50º, y Pablo Larrazábal, en el puesto 63º.

El caddie del escocés Alastair Forsyth, Ian McGregor, murió por un infarto durante la última ronda del Open de Madeira, torneo del Circuito Europeo. "Con gran tristeza tenemos que informar de la inesperada muerte del caddie Ian McGregor durante el último día de torneo", señaló el European Tour . Después de una reunión entre jugadores y caddies se decidió que se completara la jornada. Antes se guardó un minuto de silencio en el club. El inglés Daniel Brooks se impuso por delante del escocés Scott Henry.

Caddie dies on course at Madeira Islands Open Caddie Ian MacGregor died after suffering an apparent heart attack during the final round of the Madeira Islands Open. The 52year-old MacGregor was caddying for Alastair Forsyth of Scotland when he collapsed on the ninth fairway -- Forsyth's final hole. The European Tour said in a statement that "it is with great sadness and deep regret that we report the untimely passing of caddie Ian MacGregor during play on the final day of the Madeira Islands Open." The tournament, which had already been cut to 36 holes because of fog delays, was suspended but resumed following consultations with players and caddies. Daniel Brooks won the tournament in a playoff.

Larrazábal salta al agua por ataque de avispas en el Malaysian Open Pablo Larrazábal se encontraba disputando el Hoyo 5 del Malaysian Open cuando tuvo que frenar su participación por culpa de un ataque de avispas. Lo que al principio se convirtió en el caso aislado de un insecto acabó con medio enjambre asaltando al español, que tuvo que saltar al agua cercana para escapar de las avispas. Con la ayuda de los árbitros y con tratamiento médico Larrazábal consiguió terminar la jornada, e incluso realizó un birdie, pese a tener la cabeza con cerca de 25 picaduras. "Eran como tres veces del tamaño normal, eran enormes y 30 o 40. No sabía qué hacer, mi caddie me dijo que corriera y eso hice. Corrí como un loco pero las avispas me perseguían, entonces otros jugadores me dijeron que saltase al lago", explicaba Larrazábal. El golfista español quiso agradecer la ayuda del torneo después del incidente: "Corrí al lago y salté, aunque después las avispas volvieron. Los árbitros y el médico me dieron un par de inyecciones y me dijeron que estuviese tranquilo. Después me sentí mejor, sin su ayuda no hubiera podido acabar la jornada porque no estaba en un estado apto para jugar", concluye. El torneo continúa y el español que marcha en la posición 23 teme por volver al lugar de los incidentes: "Fue el momento más espantoso de mi carrera, mi peor momento en un campo de Golf. Parece que jugaré el fin de semana otra vez, estoy muy asustado de volver a ese hoyo. No sé que haré, pero seguramente lo jugaré lo más rápido posible", finalizaba Larrazábal.

El asturiano Alfredo García Heredia, campeón de España Profesional Alfredo García Heredia reprodujo con fidelidad ese carácter que se asocia de siempre a los asturianos –gente robusta, firme en sus propósitos y amigos del trabajo– para sumar su segundo título de campeón de España Profesional, una muesca más que añadir a una hoja de servicios crecientemente interesante que ya se engalanó con esta misma victoria en 2011 en El Valle. Muy sobrio en todo momento, en muchas ocasiones brillante, controlando en cada instante los sucesivos ataques de sus rivales más aguerridos, García Heredia hizo de la paciencia virtud para, primero, en la segunda jornada, superar una discreta tarjeta de 74 golpes que parecía alejarle del título, y luego para, en los momentos más críticos de la última ronda, todos ya con el cuchillo entre los dientes, defender con habilidad su atalaya de campeón ante los sucesivos ataques del malagueño Pablo Martín y del madrileño Carlos Balmaseda. Lejos de respirar tranquilo gracias a una primera vuelta al par producto de un bogey –hoyo 6– compensado por un birdie –hoyo 9–, García Heredia comenzó a sentir en el pescuezo el aliento guerrero de Martín y Balmaseda, quienes, desde lejos, sometieron al asturiano a un acoso crecientemente intenso. Sin embargo, García Heredia plasmó sobre calles y greenes de Talayuela esa robustez y esa firmeza que tanto caracteriza a los asturianos y que, en esta ocasión, le reportó el título de campeón de España Profesional, el segundo de su carrera.

DE AQUÍ Y DE ALLÁ HERE & THERE Promising young Russian golfers train on the Costa del sol They underwent an intensive week of coaching and played at several courses A group of young Russian golfers with aspirations to turn professional visited the Costa del Sol in April, to take part in a programme of intensive coaching and play at several courses in the area. Twelve promising youngsters from the world of Russian golf, accompanied by their personal coaches and the national team coach, were on the Coast for seven days, based at Jason Floyd’s International Junior Golf Academy at Valle Romano Golf Club. The visit and training programme were organised by the Russian Golf Association (the country’s official federation). Three of the participating golfers are members of the national golf team. This first experience was extremely positive for all concerned, and they plan to repeat it on a regular basis in the future, as they consider the Costa del Sol to be the perfect destination in this respect, both for the climate and for the quality and abundant quantity of golf courses. The Costa del Sol is actually becoming a favourite destination for Russian golfers. Golf remains a minority sport in Russia but it is attracting an increasing number of players. The Coast has been the venue for several competitions for Russian golfers, highlighted by – for example – the Golf Style Cup Russia-Spain, with the most recent edition held at San Roque Club’s New Course, although the participants also played on other days at the Los Naranjos, La Quinta and Doña Julia courses.

Doce jóvenes promesas del golf ruso, acompañados de sus entrenadores personales y el entrenador del equipo nacional de ese país, han realizado una concentración de siete días tomando como base la International Junior Golf Academy de Jason Floyd en el club de golf Valle Romano. La estancia y el programa de entrenamiento fueron organizados por la Asociación Rusa de Golf (la Federación de ese país). Tres de los componentes de la expedición pertenecen ya al equipo absoluto de Rusia. Esta primera experiencia ha sido sumamente positiva para todos ellos y piensan repetirla periódicamente en el futuro porque consideran a la Costa del Sol el destino perfecto para hacerlo, por el clima y

por la calidad y abundancia de sus instalaciones y campos de golf. No en vano, la Costa del Sol está convirtiéndose en un destino preferencial para los golfistas rusos, un deporte aún minoritario en Rusia pero que va ganando cada vez más adeptos. Este destino turístico ha sido escenario de varias competiciones destinadas a golfistas rusos, entre las que destacan por ejemplo la Golf Style Cup RussiaSpain, cuya última edición se disputó en el New Course de San Roque Club, si bien los participantes jugaron también otros días en los campos de Los Naranjos, La Quinta y Doña Julia. El golf ruso, aunque todavía en estado incipiente en número de practicantes, está creciendo en adeptos, especialmente entre la clase alta y media-alta.

El Lions European Golf Championship se disputó en cinco campos costasoleños La primera edición del Lions European Golf Championship & Golf Nation Cup se disputó del 25 al 29 de marzo en cinco renombrados campos costasoleños: Alcaidesa Links, Atalaya Old, Marbella Club Resort, San Roque New y Finca Cortesín, este último sede de tres ediciones del Volvo World Match Play Championship. El Club de Leones es la mayor organización de voluntarios del mundo, con 1,3 millones de afiliados. El objetivo de este torneo era recaudar fondos para la campaña que la asociación está llevando a cabo internacionalmente para erradicar el sarampión en países en vías de desarrollo. Torneo de Golf Adaptado CEPSA en La Cañada Saber jugar al golf es un esfuerzo, pero disfrutarlo al máximo es todo un acontecimiento, y los alumnos de la Escuela de Golf Adaptada saben disfrutar del golf como nadie. Durante el ya tradicional Torneo de Golf Adaptado de CEPSA se volvieron a escuchar risas y carcajadas y se pudieron ver saltos de alegría por haber conseguido alguna que otra victoria personal, . Durante todo el año los alumnos de la Escuela de Golf Adaptada del Club de Golf La Cañada se esfuerzan para superarse y poder aprender este deporte. Y una de sus recompensas es jugar el Torneo CEPSA. La competición, en la que participaron 75 jugadores con discapacidades físicas y psíquicas, se celebró en la calle de prácticas del Club, en la que se recreó un pequeño campo de golf de cinco hoyos. La Escuela de Golf Adaptado La Cañada fue una de las primeras en España creada específicamente para la integración social y deportiva de este colectivo, y llena de orgullo a los socios y directivos del Club. Los participantes, todos alumnos de la escuela Municipal de Golf Adaptado y pertenecientes a asociaciones del campo de Gibraltar como ASANSULL, FEGADI y el Centro Ocupacional Punto Europa, demostraron lo aprendido durante el curso 2013/2014 volviendo a dejar patente que no existen los limites para ellos sino la fuerza de superación y el amor al golf. Tras el torneo, se degustó una paella campera.

Inaugural Lions European Golf Championship held at five Costa courses The first edition of the Lions European Golf Championship and Golf Nation Cup was held from 25 to 29 March at five renowned Costa del Sol courses: Alcaidesa Links, Atalaya Old, Marbella Club Resort, San Roque New and Finca Cortesín, the latter a three-time host of the Volvo World Match Play Championship. The Lions Club is the world’s largest organisation of volunteers, with 1.3 million members. The aim of the tournament was to raise funds for a campaign the association has undertaken at an international level to eradicate measles in developing countries. A total of $25,000 was raised. Thanks to the success of the tournament, and participants’ satisfaction with this tourist destination, the organisation is also planning to celebrate the Lions Club World Championship on the Costa del Sol in March 2015. Golfers from 13 countries – throughout Europe, the United States and India – and their companions were delighted to visit the Coast, with the welcome ceremony and various leisure programmes complementing the tournament to perfection. The winner of the first Lions European Golf Championship was Pam Morgan, from Ireland, while Lithuania representatives Aurelijus Rusteika and Dainius Sutavicius were victorious in the Golf Nation Cup (featuring two-player teams from each country).

DE AQUÍ Y DE ALLÁ HERE & THERE San Roque Club gana la 50ª Copa Giralda El torneo Copa Giralda de Golf, que se celebró en el Real Club Pineda de Sevilla los pasados días 2 y 3 de mayo, cumplió su 50 edición. Este emblemático torneo, fundado en el año 1965 por Juan de Borbón y Battenberg, Conde de Barcelona, contó con la participación de 35 equipos, un total de 140 jugadores, procedentes de clubes de toda España. Los clubes participantes fueron Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, Club de Golf Bellavista, Real Club Pineda, Vista Hermosa, Real Club de Campo de Málaga, The San Roque Club, Casares Costa Golf, Golf Valdeluz, Guadalhorce Club de Golf, Club Golf del Guadiana, Club Zaudín, Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro, Club el Candado, Real Club de Golf de Guadalmina, The San Roque Club ganó con 427 golpes. El equipo estaba compuesto por: John Groszck, Simon Ingram, Guillermo Navarro Álvarez y Gonzalo Goy Gallardo. El 2º equipo clasificado fue el Real Club Pineda de Sevilla con 428 golpes siendo los participantes Santiago Camacho Rodríguez, Luis Barón Barbadillo, Felipe Fernández Mensaque e Iván Fernández Mensaque. Entre los actos previstos que se celebraron en esta especial edición, tuvo lugar un torneo conmemo-

Club acercando a nuestro campo a la élite del golf amateur español de la época. Esta primera edición contó con un total de 9 equipos, siendo ganada por el Club de Campo de Málaga. Pineda se la adjudicó en su II edición, siendo el Club que más victorias ha conseguido hasta la fecha, un total de veintiocho, seguida de Puerta de Hierro con siete. Desde esa primera vez, este torneo se ha venido celebrando año tras año ininterrumpidamente, destacando la presencia en el Club en varias ocasiones de S.S A.A R.R los Condes de Barcelona.

With this top-eight finish, the Sun Devils advance to their 23rd-consecutive National Championship appearance, an NCAA record. The battle for first place on the team leader board went down to the wire between top-ranked Southern California and No. 11 Washington. The Women of Troy held on for the win, edging out the Huskies by one stroke. On the individual leader board, Washington’s SooBin Kim and USC’s Annie Park were nipping at Jiménez’ heels on the back nine, but they were unable to overcome her two stroke lead. Jiménez nabbed the NCAA West Regional individual title with a 3-under 213 (67-74-72). This was Jiménez' first title of the season and third of her career. “It feels really good,” said Jimenez of her win and the Sun Devils’ third place finish. “We made it a goal to make it to Nationals, and it feels really good to advance to the championship this year. Today was a tough day overall, so the scores weren’t as low. But it was a good finish anyway.” On the season Jimenez has finished in the top 10 of her 11 tournaments including recording sixstraight top-five finishes. The last Sun Devil to win a regional title was fellow Spaniard Carlota Ciganda at the 2009 West Regional, before helping the Sun Devils to their seventh national title.

Campeonato de España Universitario, en Antequera Golf Ángel Acha, de la Universidad Francisco de Vitoria y Luna Sobrón, de la Universidad Camilo José Cela, lograron cumplir las expectativas de la primera jornada y se alzaron con el título final absoluto en el Campeonato de España Universitario de Golf, que se disputó en el campo de Antequera Golf. En la clasificación por equipos el triunfo fue para la Universidad San Pablo CEU. En estos campeonatos se otorgan también galardones a los participantes que encabezan la clasificación tras la compensación de los hándicaps de los participantes. En esta categoría, los triunfadores fueron Manuel Maldonado, de Almería, en categoría masculina y Lucía Cortezo, de Las Palmas, en categoría femenina.

Si bien el campo no cuenta con una gran Casa Club, esto se convierte en una ventaja ya que tanto el parking como la tienda, el bar y el tee 1 quedan muy a mano. El personal simpre resulta atento, amable y eficiente. En cuanto a precios, se puede jugar desde 25 euros en twilight hasta 45 euros por todo el día, tantas rondas como se quiera. También puede uno abonarse al campo. Si piensa jugar más de cinco veces al mes, se ahorrará dinero.

El Higueral Golf, razones para gustar Desde que el Higueral Golf fuera inaugurado en noviembre de 2007 se ha convertido sin duda en uno de los campos con más afluencia de jugadores y más agradables de jugar en la zona de Marbella-Estepona-Benahavís. No es que haya un motivo concreto sino que se juntan una serie de características que lo convierten en un campo muy apetecible. El Higueral Golf es un campo que actualmente cuenta con 9 hoyos, par 36. Se puede jugar caminando pero, si prefiere jugar en buggy, lo puede hacer conduciendo por las calles. El diseño resulta muy divertido y bonito. Ni muy difícil ni muy fácil. El nivel de mantenimiento es excelente y constante a lo largo del año. El campo tiene varias calles realmente llamativas, destacando el hoyo 3 por ser un par 3 con green en península. El hoyo 4, un par 5 precioso con un espectacular golpe a green, o el hoyo 6, par 5 que discurre en paralelo al río Guadalmina. 122

Since opening back in November 2007, El Higueral Golf has consistently become one of the most popular and nicest courses to play in the Marbella-Estepona-Benahavis area. There is no one single reason for that, but a combination of many. El Higueral Golf is a 9 hole par 36 course at the moment. There are plans to build it up to a par 72 course. You can easily play this course walking but you are also allowed to drive buggies on the fairways. The course design is really beautiful, not too difficult or too easy but very entertaining. The course is always maintaned to a very high and consistent standard all year round. There are some very nice and unique fairways at Higueral Golf. Hole number 3 is a challenging par 3 hole with a peninsula green. Hole numer 4 is a par 5, dog leg right with a beautiful and amazing shot to the green. Hole number 6 is a par 5 which goes along the Guadalmina river. The club house facilities are pretty basic.. Whithin easy reach you have the parking area, pro-shop, bar and tee number 1. Easy and simple. The staff working at Higueral are simply great. Great service, great welcome and great attitude.
