Ampliando horizontes “En tiempos de tribulación no hacer mudanzas", aconsejaba Ignacio de Loyola a los miembros de la Compañía de Jesús. Y seguro que la recomendación es aplicable a cualquier tiempo difícil como este; virgencita, virgencita que me quede Antonio Sánchez como estoy... Sin embargo en esto, al menos, hemos decidido no hacer mucho caso al Santo e iniciar una nueva etapa en Andalucía Golf/España Golf: a partir de este número publicaremos una sección en ruso en todas las ediciones de nuestra revista. Somos conscientes que aun no son muchos los rusos que juegan al golf, que ese es un mercado incipiente, etc. etc... Pero una cosa tenemos clara, que el potencial es enorme, y que cada vez son más los que juegan o se inician en el golf procedentes de ese país. Y lo que es mejor, en su mayoría de alto y muy alto poder adquisitivo. También aumenta día a día el número de residente de esta nacionalidad, en las zonas turísticas sobre todo, y la mayoría de ellos tienen entre sus objetivos la practica de este deporte, integrarse en un mundillo que les fascina y que piensan les puede aportar estatus social. AG/EG pretende trasladar nuestra oferta de golf y turismo a este mercado emergente aun pero que estamos seguros va a crecer muchísimo en pocos años. Además de hacer esta sección en su idioma, que irá creciendo, enviaremos revistas a los clubes rusos y mantendremos una estrecha colaboración y comunicación con la federación de golf de ese país. No son buenos tiempos para mudanzas, pero también es verdad que sin correr ciertos riesgos no se amplían horizontes, y Andalucía Golf/España Golf, además de prestar un nuevo servicio al sector, pretende seguir siendo su publicación de referencia tanto on line como impresa.

Having said that, we have decided to ignore the Patron Saint’s advice – at least on this occasion – and begin a new era at Andalucía Golf/España Golf: from this issue we are publishing a special section in Russian, in all editions of the magazine. We are aware that there are not all that many Russians playing golf, that it is an emerging market, etc. etc., but there is one thing we are clear about: the potential is huge, and more and more Russians are playing golf or taking up the game. And, what’s even better, most have high or very high earning power. Also, the number of Russian residents in Spain, especially in tourist areas, is increasing and most of them plan to play golf, and become part of a world that fascinates them and which they believe can bestow social status. AG/EG’s aim is to pass on information about our golf and tourism attractions to a market that might be still relatively incipient but which we are sure is going to grow considerably in just a few short years. In addition to featuring this section in their language, which will be expanded in future issues, we are sending magazines to Russian clubs and maintaining close collaboration and communication with the Russian golf federation. These are not necessarily good times for changing direction, but it is also true that if you don’t take certain risks you won’t expand your horizons, and Andalucía Golf/España Golf – as well as providing a new service to the industry – plans to remain your standard-bearing golf magazine, both online and in print.

ROBERT TRENT EL GRAN DEMIURGO DEL GOLF COSTASOLEÑO El empresario filipino Joseph McMicking tenía muy claro lo que quería cuando, en 1962, adquirió una enorme finca cerca del Peñón de Gibraltar para erigir la macrourbanización Sotogrande: la máxima calidad en todas las instalaciones. Y una de ellas iba a ser un campo de golf. Por ello, contactó con el mejor diseñador de golf de la época y le dio carta blanca para elegir el terreno y crear el que sería primer recorrido de golf de la urbanización.

Valderrama, diseño de Robert Trent Jones senior, hizo historia al convertirse en el primer campo español y primero fuera de las Islas Británicas en acoger en Europa la Ryder Cup, en 1997. Antes había albergado nueve Volvo Masters, que continuó disputándose aquí, y se había ganado el reconocimiento de los mejores jugadores, convirtiéndose en el campo número uno de Europa. También acogió dos Campeonatos del Mundo American Express (Tiger Woods ganó el de 1999). Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Valderrama made history by becoming the first Spanish course, and first outside Great Britain, to host the Ryder Cup – in 1997. Previously, the course had been the venue for nine editions of the Volvo Masters (a tournament which later returned to Valderrama until 2008), earning recognition from the top players and leading to its ranking as the number one course in Europe. Valderrama has also hosted two American Express World Golf Championships.
THE COSTA DEL GOLf’S GREAT DEMIURG Philippine businessman Joseph McMicking was clear what he wanted when, in 1962, he purchased an vast plot of land near the Rock of Gibraltar to develop the Sotogrande macro-urbanisation: top quality for all the amenities. And one of those was going to be a golf course. To that end, he contacted the best golf course designer of that era and gave him free reign to choose the land and create what would be the first golf course in the urbanisation.

sí es cómo Robert Trent Jones tuvo su primer contacto profesional con la Costa del Sol, donde en 1964 se estrenaba el primero de los nueve campos de golf que el prestigioso diseñador firmó en este destino turístico de Andalucía. El Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande se convertía en el tercer campo de golf de la Costa del Sol, donde sólo existía el Club de Campo de Málaga (hoy Parador Málaga del Golf), uno de los pioneros de España, abierto en 1925, y el campo sur de Guadalmina, inaugurado en 1959 con la firma de otro carismático diseñador, Javier Arana. El de Sotogrande fue el primer trabajo del diseñador en Europa y marcó un hito en la construcción de campos a este lado del Atlántico, no solo por el soberbio diseño que realizó el maestro Jones, sino por las innovaciones que rodearon el proyecto: fue el primer campo de Europa sembrado con Bermuda 419 y el primero en instalar un sistema de riego totalmente automatizado. This is a typical Robert Trent Jones design, with its sweeping fairways, abundant bunkers and large undulating greens. The first few holes require accurate and brave tee shots to get across the ravines and gullies. Although the next holes are somewhat easier on the nerves, players should beware the fearsome 11th, a sharp dogleg right with hills, valleys and seagulls who occasionally steal your golf balls!

Founded in 1964, Sotogrande regularly features among Europe’s top 10 golf courses. Robert Trent Jones’s first course design on the Continent, Sotogrande has matured beautifully. It is a members’ course with certain times reserved for visitors. Water makes a splash here on the 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th. There are fine houses around the course though none can be accused of encroaching. This is truly an “old school” club where golf comes first.

Royal Sotogrande Golf Club was the third golf course on the Costa del Sol, following Club de Campo de Málaga (now Parador Málaga de Golf), one of the pioneer courses in Spain, opened in 1925, and the South Course in Guadalmina, inaugurated in 1959 and designed by another celebrated designer, Javier Arana. Gracias al entonces presidente de Valderrama, Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, que apoyó de forma incondicional el proyecto, Robert Trent Jones diseñó los primeros nueve hoyos del que sería el primer campo de golf municipal de la Costa del Sol. Corría el año 1982 cuando se inauguró este campo, que contó también con un gran apoyo por parte de las federaciones española y andaluza de golf. Años más tarde, otro gran diseñador, Dave Thomas, se encargaría de idear los segundos nueve hoyos de La Cañada. En 1984 se abría al juego el segundo recorrido de 18 hoyos de Mijas Golf, Los Olivos, también diseñado por Jones, y al año siguiente se estrenaba el que en poco más de una década se convertiría en el campo de golf más famoso de España y en uno de los grandes referentes internacionales: Valderrama, que nació con el nombre de Las Aves. En 1986 eclosionaba el octavo campo diseñado por Jones en la Costa del Sol, La Duquesa, en el municipio malagueño de Manilva, y en 1991 se estrenaba el último diseño del gran maestro en este destino turístico de Andalucía: Marbella Golf. En total, Rober Trent Jones diseñó en la Costa del Sol nueve campos que suman 157 hoyos en un período que abarca 27 años. Cientos de miles de amateurs y muchísimos de los mejores profesionales del mundo han disfrutado de la obra costasoleña de este insuperable maestro del diseño golfístico.Robert Trent Jones
Los Olivos representa la antítesis de su ‘hermano’ Los Lagos. El campo de Los Olivos es más joven (1984) y menos largo, hay menos agua y las calles son más estrechas. El terreno es más ondulado y con bastantes más árboles. Los greenes son más pequeños y muchos se encuentran en una posición elevada.

Thanks to then Valderrama president, Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, who have his staunch support to the project, Robert Trent Jones designed the first nine holes of what would become the first municipal course on the Costa del Sol. It was 1982 when the course was opened, also with great support from the Spanish and Andalucian golf federations. Years later, another great designer, Dave Thomas, was commissioned to create the second nine holes at la Cañada. The second layout at Mijas Golf, Los Olivos, was opened for play in

Los Olivos is the antithesis of its “brother”, Los Lagos. The Los Olivos course is younger (1984) and shorter, there’s less water and the fairways are tighter. The terrain is more inclined and features more trees. The greens are smaller and many are in an elevated position. This course is one you should definitely play.

Mijas Golf has two 18-hole courses of which the older is Los Lagos, opened in 1976. It features wide fairways, large raised greens and an abundance of bunkers and water hazards. Los Lagos was aptly named for there are eight lakes in and around the course. AN AVID AND SKILLED GOLFER Born in Ince-in-Makerfield (England) in 1906, Robert Trent Jones accompanied his parents to the United States at the age of five. The family settled in East Rochester (New York) where young Robert took a job becoming the first golf professional at Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club, located in the Sodus Point (New York) area. He became an avid and skilled golfer as a youth, but health problems prevented him from taking part in tournament competition. Encouraging words from her coach before she left for Australia boosted her confidence. "All off season I was just getting ready with my coach back home and he told me he thinks that this is my year, my time to finally get a win and to have it this early in the season is exciting, especially with European Tour and then here in Australia. I'm just really proud with how I played this week and followed through all four days and finished strong." The win didn't come as a huge shock even though she missed the cut last week, "Not necessarily a shock but I missed the cut last week by two shots in New Zealand, 77, 71 so I didn't play well last week but I came into this week with a new mindset, I worked on a few things and everything just kind of clicked. It worked out really well, after the first round I knew I could win, so from then on that was the goal." Woods was a four-year letterwinner at Wake Forest from 2008-12. She finished her career with the lowest single-season (73.47) and lowest career scoring average (74.31) in school-history. Woods Was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-ACC honoree. She won twice as a collegiate golfer, including a dominating seven-shot victory at the 2011 ACC Championship. Woods turned professional in 2012 after an All-America career at Wake Forest and her only previous pro victory came in 2012 in a SunCoast mini-tour event. In December, she missed the cut in the LPGA Tour's qualifying tournament in a failed bid to earn a spot on the circuit. ''I've been pro for two years and, for the majority of it, people just think of me as Tiger Woods' niece, so now I have a game of my own and I have a title now, a win, which is exciting,'' she said. ''It's nice now to say to people that I can play and I'm not just a name. Growing up with the last name of Woods, there's a lot of expectations and pressure and spotlight on you but I always knew that I was able to win. Esta nueva prueba, valedera tanto para la Carrera a Dubái como para el Orden de Mérito del Circuito Challenge, reunirá a participantes de ambos circuitos contando con un montante en premios de 600.000 euros. Además, sumará puntos para la Ryder Cup.

e trata de la primera visita del Tour al recorrido sanroqueño, inaugurado en 2004 y considerado, desde entonces, uno de los campos de más prestigio en la Costa del Sol. European Tour returns to Costa del Sol with a new tournament A new tournament, the NH Collection Open, will be played at La Reserva de Sotogrande Club de Golf in southern Spain from April 3-6, 2014. The €600,000 event will be dual-ranking, meaning the field will comprise players from The European Tour and the Challenge Tour, and prize money will count towards The Race to Dubai, the Challenge Tour Rankings and Ryder Cup qualification.

he field will consist of 144 professionals, with four places being allocated to tournament invitations, four to Spanish professionals and the balance of the field split equally between The European and Challenge Tour categories. For the purposes of the Challenge Tour Rankings only, the prize fund will be capped at €450,000. It will be The European Tour’s first visit to the Andalucía venue, which opened in 2004 and has since become one of the most prestigious courses in the Costa del Sol region. Spain has long been a strong partner of The European Tour, and following some tough economic challenges in recent years, the arrival of a new event is an extremely positive sign. l recorrido de La Reserva pasó al principio de marzo “un primer examen con sobresaliente”, según José María Zamora, director del NH Collection Open por parte del Tour Europeo. “El campo se encuentra a un altísimo nivel”, aseguró. “Esta semana se juega la Copa del Rey (Campeonato Internacional Amateur de España Masculino), en la que participan los mejores amateur de Europa, por lo que, sin duda, pasará un primer examen con sobresaliente”. “El rough no penaliza mucho”, añadió Zamora, “y se dejará igual de cara al NH Collection Open en abril. Se ha resembrado el tee de prácticas con “ryegrass” y también hemos acordado resembrar algunos tees, probablemente en los pares 3. Los greenes están ahora bastante rápidos, a 12 pies; el equipo del Tour Europeo deberá controlar la velocidad durante el torneo porque, en esa zona, el viento puede ser concluyente. Un día puede soplar ‘levante’ y al siguiente ‘poniente’, y estás jugando un campo completamente diferente en dos vueltas del torneo”. “Las calles de los hoyos 1 y 11 son un poco más estrechas, pero en general son generosas y da la sensación de mucho espacio. Los greenes son amplios y movidos; es muy importante poner la bola en la plataforma de la bandera, si no… te puedes dejar putts comprometidos. El hoyo siete es muy bonito, un par 5 largo al que se llega bien de dos, siempre con la vista del mar al fondo. De los pares

No, no es que el recaudador Montoro haya decidido retirarse a un monasterio de clausura a expiar las afrentas cometidas contra el menguante peculio de sus compatriotas, no. Me viene a la memoria la frase del denostado Ronald Reagan sobre los sufridos paganinis: "El contribuyente es la única persona que trabaja para la Administración sin tener que aprobar oposiciones”. Tiene gracia, ¿o no? En fin, que la buena nueva es que el Circuito Europeo ha vuelto a fijar sus ojos en

máxima categoría. Seamos realistas, resignémonos y aceptemos la cruda realidad. Se acabaron las vacas gordas, y cada vez va a ser más difícil revivir aquellos tiempos de los grandísimos torneos: la Ryder Cup, los Campeonatos del Mundo American Express, los Campeonatos Volvo World Match Play, los Volvo Masters... De todos modos, tenemos que ser optimistas y ver con buena cara todo aquel evento que vuelva a proyectar mediáticamente este gran destino de golf turístico que es la Costa del Sol. La retransmisiones

El abogado Luis Fernando Linares Torres se hizo cargo de la empresa y la gestión del club de golf costasoleño Doña Julia hace algo más de tres años. Antes había sido consejero delegado de otros dos clubes malagueños: Valle Romano y La Quinta, así que cuenta con una dilatada experiencia en el mundo del golf.

–Doña Julia es uno de los casi 70 campos que tiene la Costa del Sol. ¿Cómo trataría de convencer al lector para que elija jugar en él? –En este momento Doña Julia es sin duda un campo abierto donde el cliente es tratado como socio desde el primer instante. Además en cuanto a vistas, disfrute del juego y calidad de construcción es uno de los más avanzados de la costa, el único con La Cañada jugable después de precipitaciones copiosas e intensas. 2 –Hacerse cargo de la gestión de un campo de golf en tiempos de crisis, como hizo su empresa, ¿no es un negocio un tanto arriesgado? –Eso es una certeza económica, sin embargo siempre he creido que la generación de valor(el campo estaba cerrado y con varios hoyos invadidos por el derrumbe de la urbanización) siempre supone una oportunidad hacia el futuro, la generación de sinergias y nuevas espectativas, el renacer de las dos mil viviendas que las rodea una oportunidad que supone un bien general, la creación o la recuperación de puestos de trabajo y la satisfacción de miles de jugadores. Es cierto hemos perdido mucho dinero pero hemos generado una fuerza que tirárá de ese lugar y, tal vez las ilusiones y el bien hecho tengan más valor que esa pérdida circunstancial o definitiva. El riesgo forma parte de la vida y los negocios, el valor perdura y termina volviendo. Lo creo, lo sé y lo he vivido en mi propia experiencia. 3 –¿Cuáles son las claves para atraer a un golfista a un determinado campo de golf y que salga con buen sabor de boca? –Atención, un mantenimiento adecuado y en sí bello, darles a todos la oportunidad de sentirse como en su club, con un nucleo estable de acogida y simpatía. 4 –Su compañía tiene una división inmobiliaria. ¿Es un buen momento para comprar o se prevén más reducciones de precio en las viviendas? –Éste es el momento, sin duda. Lo he anticipado en radio cada semana y en la revista Capital, donde escribo habitualmente. Primero la costa con más calidad. Barcelona, Madrid, el Norte, Pamplona, San Sebatián y Bilbao, y de ahí hacia adelante. 5 –Parece que el sector del golf se está recuperando y va mejorando poco a poco. ¿Es optimista o cree que todavía falta mucho para la recuperación total?

–Es un momento distinto, hay vías alternativas de comercialización, el cliente busca relación precio calidad, la localización es importante y la dificultad está todavía en el turismo de aquí. –¿Qué factores cree que influyen más en los golfistas europeos que visitan la Costa del Sol: calidad de los campos, precios...? –Conocimiento del campo, precio-calidad y disfrute en el juego. A nosotros nos falta llegar a más gente y a los démas responder a las nuevas espectativas. –¿Qué deberían de hacer las administraciones públicas para potenciar este destino turístico de golf? –Concienciarse del valor económico, ecológico y de futuro del turismo de golf. –¿Cree que corre peligro el liderazgo de la Costa del Sol como destino turístico de golf en Europa ante el empuje de nuestros competidores? –Turquía y Bulgaria están haciéndolo muy bien. Sin embargo, la Costa del Sol por climatología, calidad de los campos, ubicación, infraestructuras, belleza natural, marca y lugar de residencia habitual de muchos extranjeros, solo puede crecer, salvo que nos empeñemos en los prejuicios, poses, sofismas y otras dolencias del conocimiento y la responsabilidad –Sus muchas ocupaciones, ¿le permiten jugar al golf con frecuencia? –Seguro que en doña Julia y la Quinta de la que soy socio o Atalaya, llena de amigos juego al menos una vez a la semana y algunas dos. El golf ha cambiado mi vida y es un alivio en la responsabilidad y la oportunidad de los amigos, muchos de ellos volcados con nuestro proyecto.

How would you convince our readers to play there? - At the moment Doña Julia is, without a doubt, an open course where clients are treated like members right from the first moment. In addition, as far as the views, player enjoyment and quality of construction are concerned, it is one of the most advanced clubs on the Coast – together with La Cañada, the only one playable following plentiful and heavy rainfall. – Was it not something of a risk to take on the management of a golf course during times of crisis, as your company did? - This is certainly the case from an economic perspective but I have always believed that the creation of value (the course was closed and several holes had been invaded due to the urbanisation’s demolition) represents an opportunity for the future, the creation of synergies and new expectations, the rebirth of the 2,000 homes surrounding it, for the common good, the creation or recuperation of jobs, and the satisfaction of thousands of golfers. Its true that we have lost a lot of money, but we have created a force that will give this place a boost and, perhaps, enthusiasm and doing things well are worth more than that circumstantial or definitive loss. Risk is all part of life and business; value endures and ends up returning. I know I believe that, and my own experiences have shown me this is the case. – What are the keys to attracting golfers to a particular course and ensuring they leave with a good taste in their mouth? - Attention, adequate and attractive maintenance, giving everyone the opportunity of feeling like they are in their own club, with a solid nucleus of warmth and friendliness. – Your company has a real estate department. Is this a good moment to buy or do you expect further reductions in home prices? - This is the right moment, without a doubt. I’ve anticipated this on the radio every week, and in Capital magazine, which I write for regularly. First of all, the higher quality coastline, Barcelona, Madrid, the north, Pamplona, San Sebastián and Bilbao, and then further on. – It seems as though the golf sector is recovering and improving bit by bit. Are you optimistic or do you believe there is still a long way to go for a complete recovery? - It’s a different moment; there are various marketing options. Clients are seeking a good relationship between price and quality. Location is important, and the difficulty is still with tourism here. – What factors do you believe have a greater influence with European golfers who visit the Costa del Sol: quality of the courses, prices…? - Familiarity with the course, price-quality and player enjoyment. What we need are more people here; others, to respond to the new expectations. – What do the authorities need to do to strengthen this golf tourism destination? - Raise awareness of the economic, ecological and future value of golf tourism. – Do you believe the Costa del Sol’s leadership position as a golf tourism destination in Europe is in danger in the face of pressure and initiatives by our competitors? - Turkey and Bulgaria are doing very well but the Costa del Sol – due to its climate, quality courses, location, infrastructure, natural beauty, brand and being the main residence for many foreigners – can only grow, unless we succumb to prejudices, affectations, sophisms and other maladies of consciousness and responsibility. 9 – With your many responsibilities, do you get to play golf very often? - At Doña Julia and La Quinta, where I’m a member, or Atalaya, full of friends, I play at least once a week and sometimes twice. Golf has changed my life, and it’s a break from responsibility and an opportunity to catch up with friends, many also enthusiastically throwing themselves into our project.

MUCH MORE THAN GOLF The province offers a wide range of opportunities for playing golf Half of Andalucía’s golf courses are located in Málaga province, along whose coastline stretches the famous Costa del Sol. The main attractions of this coastal area, which welcomes more than nine million tourists a year, are – apart from golf – quite varied: gastronomy, beaches, marine ports, nightlife, shopping, typical villages, historical buildings… Marbella (the Costa del Sol’s most international municipality), Estepona, Mijas and Benahavís are home to most of the courses in the province, though the sport can also be enjoyed in many other Málaga areas. MÁLAGA The capital city of Málaga, birthplace of Pablo Picasso and site of the magnificent museum dedicated to Guernica’s creator, offers beaches, a bustling night-time atmosphere, and an outstanding selection of historical buildings and monuments, including the Cathedral and La Alcazaba. Located in Málaga municipality are the El Candado, Guadalhorce and Real Club de Campo de Málaga (known as the Parador) golf courses. The Costa del Sol’s pioneer course, and one of the oldest in Spain, having been founded in 1925, Real Club de Málaga extends along the beach and is close to Málaga’s airport. Málaga capital’s tourist attractions are numerous, and are by no means limited to the city’s historical facet – which incidentally features a varied and valuable heritage in this respect, highlighted by the aforementioned buildings. The La Concepción botanical gardens, on the city outskirts, are a delight to the senses and feature a collection of unique species in Europe. Founded by the Phoenicians as “Malaka”, the city retains the vestiges of the different cultures that populated it over the centuries. Also settling in this Mediterranean enclave were Romans and Arabs before the Catholic Monarchs took control. MARBELLA The Costa del Sol’s most cosmopolitan city, Marbella is a tourist must, especially for golfers. In fact, it has the most golf courses of any municipality in Spain: sixteen. In bustling Puerto Banús, home to ostentatious yachts worth millions of euros, or in any of the fashionable restaurants or terraces, you could find yourself rubbing shoulders with famous people from the glossy maga-

The “Golf Valley”, a superb area situated behind Puerto Banús in the Nueva Andalucía macro-urbanisation, includes Las Brisas, Los Naranjos, La Quinta, Aloha and La Dama de Noche, where you can play in the evening thanks to its artificial lighting system. Close by is the Guadalmina club, which has two 18-hole courses. Within one kilometre of the centre of Marbella is Monte Paraíso, and just past the city, in the direction of Málaga, is Río Real, whose picturesque course winds down to the sea. A little further along, near the Costa del Sol Hospital, is Santa Clara Golf and Marbella Golf. Greenlife Golf, Santa María Golf, El Soto and Capopino Golf are situated at the eastern of the municipality. mate. Thanks to the Sierra Blanca backdrop, the city enjoys incredible sunshine and temperatures throughout most of the year. This microclimate tempers winters and softens summers, thus favouring the development of a rich and attractive vegetation – splendidly on show in thousands of private gardens that add so much colour to the Marbella landscape. Marbella’s 27 kilometres of coastline are dotted with three marine ports (Cabopino, Marbella and Banús) and a charming fishing port, which is also home to recreational vessels. MIJAS After Marbella, Mijas has the second highest number of golf courses in Málaga province, with twelve. Standing out as a popular destination for tourists is Mijas Golf. This expansive complex has two 18-hole golf courses. The same is the case for La Cala, which has 54 holes and a six-hole par-three layout. One of the latest additions to Mijas’s golf amenities is Santana Golf, a magnificent 18-hole course set in a former avocado farm. Also newly opened are the 18hole El Chaparral and Calanova. There

MIJAS Mijas es, tras Marbella, el segundo municipio malagueño en volumen de campos de golf, con doce. Destaca por su afluencia turística Mijas Golf. Este amplio complejo cuenta con dos campos de 18 hoyos. Lo mismo ocurre con La Cala, que además de 54 hoyos tiene academia de golf y un campito de 6 pares 3. Entre los campos de nueva hornada, abiertos en los últimos diez años, destaca Santana Golf, espléndido 18 hoyos enclavado en una antigua finca de aguacates. También son recientes el Chaparral y Calanova. Hay tres campos de nueve hoyos: La Noria, Miraflores y La Siesta. Mijas destaca por la numerosa colonia extranjera que lo habita, por el cuidado de su casco urbano, el tipismo andaluz de su arquitectura, sus magníficas panorámicas, a vista de águila, sobre el Mediterráneo y por un sinfín de atractivos. BENAHAVÍS Benahavís es una bella localidad de montaña muy apreciada, entre otras cosas, por su magnífica gastronomía, que se puede degustar en uno de sus numerosos establecimientos de hostelería. No en vano, el pueblo es conocido popularmente como ‘El Restaurante de la Costa’. Más tarde pasé por el Club de Golf El Bosque, donde apenas estuve unos meses porque me llamaron de Aloha, donde permanecí ocho años como gerente". Asumo, por tanto, la responsabilidad sobre todas las operaciones actuales y futuras de este club. No vengo, como señalo, para hacer cambios, sino para consolidar Río Real como lo que es: un gran club, un gran resort de golf, con un hotel muy atractivo, y para hacer que sigamos creciendo y consolidándonos. Until a few months ago manager of Aloha Golf Club, Luis Navarro recently joined the management at the Rio Real golf course and hotel, also in Marbella. Navarro has had an extensive professional career in the world of golf... “I began years ago,” he recalls, “ mainly because I enjoyed playing golf, sharing ownership of the Añoreta pro shop.
“I was an agronomy engineer and then I had the chance of doing a greenkeeper’s course with the Royal Andalucian Golf Federation. That gave me the opportunity of taking on that job at Alicante Golf, where later I became manager for five years. After that I moved on to El Bosque Golf Club, where I only remained for a few months because Aloha contacted me – I stayed there for eight years as manager. “Now,” he says, “I’m starting a new era with great enthusiasm at Rio Real, probably the best commercial course there could be for visitors, with a fantastic hotel and superb amenities in an incomparable location, just five minutes from Marbella town centre, in the heart of the Costa del Sol.” - Does your move to Rio Real mean changes for

–El próximo 2015, Rio Rea cumple cincuenta años. ¿Cómo lo vais a celebrar? –Es una aniversario importante, ya que somos uno de los pocos campos en la Costa del Sol que hemos llegado a esa cifra, junto con Guadalmina, Sotogrande y El Parador y Sotogrande. Por tanto queremos hacer muchas cosas para conmemorarla, aunque todavía no tenemos un programa completo de actividades. Tenemos todo este año para prepararlo, pero debemos hacerlo muy bien. –¿En el campo habéis contemplado hacer algunos retoques? –No muchos, la verdad, porque está en magníficas condiciones. Recientemente hemos abierto al juego dos greenes que se habían reformado, el 5 y el 13, a los que se les dio más movimiento para hacerlo más interesantes. Por otra parte estamos adaptándonos al riego con agua reciclada. Ya nos llega la tubería de Acosol para este fin, y creo que muy pronto podremos disponer de agua reutilizada, que es lo que todos los campos de la Costa del Sol pretendemos.

Cuando la tengamos programaremos las obras y se realizarán cuanto antes.

I’m not coming here to make changes, but rather to consolidate Rio Real as what it already is – a great club, a great golf resort, with a very attractive hotel – and to ensure we continue to grow and become even more well established. Our aim is for the club to remain a standard bearer for tourism in one of the finest areas of Spain, Marbella. - In any event, there are some projects on the im-
mediate drawing board… - Rather than immediate I would say in the near future. The plan is to develop a top-level beach club. And with that project we will be able to complement the resort’s amenities: a charming boutique hotel, a first-class golf course, designed by Javier Arana, possibly Spain’s finest golf architect, and the beach club. - For when is it planned? - The project is now ready and the licence applied for. When we have that, we’ll schedule the work and carry it out as soon as possible. - In 2015 Río Real will celebrate its 50th anniversary. How is it going to celebrate the milestone? - It’s an important anniversary, as we are one of the few courses on the Costa del Sol to reach this total,
together with Guadalmina, Sotogrande and the Parador. So we want to do many things to celebrate it, although we don’t yet have a complete schedule of activities. We have all this year to prepare it, but we must do it very well. - Have you contemplated carrying out any finetuning to the course? - Not much – because it’s actually in magnificent condition. We recently opened up for play two greens that had been renovated, the 5th and 13th, which are more undulating now to make them more interesting. We are also adapting the irrigation system to use recycled water. Acosol’s pipeline now reaches us and I believe that very soon we will be able to have recycled water available, which is the objective for all courses on the Costa del Sol. El club marbellí concluye sus proyectos de mejora
Tras varios meses de trabajo en la construcción de la nueva tienda y caddy master del Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, estas obras finalmente han concluido. A principios de marzo, los socios y visitantes pudieron comprobar la excelentes instalaciones, según el proyecto del arquitecto Alberto Rodríguez, que ha sabido crear un edificio funcional y que guarda una gran sintonía con el resto de las instalaciones. En la actualidad, todos los servicios de atención al público se encuentran centrados en el nuevo edificio: caddy master, pro shop y oficina de torneos. Al mismo tiempo, por la posición estratégica junto al tee del hoyo 1 del Campo Norte, se puede ofrecer un control del mismo y dar servicio a todos los jugadores tanto a diario como en competiciones, ofreciendo al mismo tiempo el servicio de cuarto de palos.

Golf club completes improvements project
After several months of work building a new shop and caddy master’s office at Royal Guadalmina Golf Club, the project has finally been finished. At the start of March, members and guests were able to check out the excellent new amenities, completed to the plans of a project created by architect Alberto Rodríguez, who has produced a functional building that maintains great harmony with the rest of the club’s facilities. Currently, all services for the public are concentrated in the new building: caddy master, pro shop and tournament office. At the same time, due to its strategic position next to the first tee of the North Course, it is possible to control operations more efficiently, both for players on a daily basis as well as competitions, while also providing a clubs storage service.

La nave de mantenimiento del Real Club de Golf Guadalmina cumple con los más exigentes requisitos en materia medioambiental
Una vez finalizada, la obra de construcción de la nave de mantenimiento, según palabras del administrador único de Guadalmina Golf S.A., Jorge Molina, se ha podido comprobar que todos los aspectos en materia de respeto por el medio ambiente han sido tenidos en cuenta a la hora de ejecutar el proyecto. Desde los decantadores de productos químicos, pasando por los filtros de residuos verdes producidos por el lavado de las máquinas, el uso de agua reciclada para cumplir con los requisitos obligatorios en la protección contra incendios, la construcción de almacenes para productos fitosanitarios, de acuerdo con la normativa más exigente en la materia, y el uso de paneles solares para el agua sanitaria. “Entendemos”, señala Jorge Molina, “que hemos marcado un antes y un después en lo referente a la construcción de instalaciones para el mantenimiento de campos de golf. Y todo ello manteniendo un aspecto estético de marcado acento andaluz, que ha sabido integrarse en el entorno donde se encuentra ubicada”. El taller es una parte fundamental del 48

Royal Guadalmina Golf Club’s maintenance warehouse fulfils all the most demanding environmental requirements Once construction work on the maintenance warehouse was finished, according to Guadalmina Golf S.A. company administrator Jorge Molina, the club was able to confirm that all aspects in relation to respect for the environment had been taken into account when completing the project… from chemical product decanters to filters for green residues produced when washing the equipment, the use of recycled water to comply with fire protection regulations, the construction of warehouses for pesticides, in accordance with the strictest norms, and the use of solar panels for cleaning water. “We understand,” adds Jorge Molina, “that we have established a before and an after when it comes to the construction of maintenance amenities for golf courses. And all of that while maintaining a pronounced Andalucian accent in the aesthetic aspect, integrated into the surroundings where the building is located.” The workshop is a key feature of the maintenance amenities. It extends over 200 square metres and is equipped with all the elements required to look after the extensive fleet of machinery and equipment. The communal areas located on the mezzanine floor enable the greenkeeper to monitor the operations of the area dedicated to technical service.

El Green del hoyo 10
Uno de los retos más importantes a la hora de construir la nueva nave de mantenimiento se planteaba a la hora de integrar el nuevo green del hoyo 10 del Campo Norte. A falta de unas semanas para su apertura oficial, podemos comprobar que los contornos del nuevo green invitan a jugar este hoyo, que gracias a su nueva longitud, de 498 metros, será sin duda un reto para jugadores de todos los niveles. La empresa GTM ha ejecutado este green de acuerdo con los más exigentes niveles de calidad. “Solo esperamos que los jugadores puedan disfrutar de este nuevo green”, dice Ignacio del Cuvillo. “Únicamente nos queda finalizar la decoración paisajística y habremos dado por terminado el proyecto”, añade.

One of the main challenges faced when constructing the new maintenance warehouse was to integrate the new green on the 10th hole of the North Course. With just a few weeks to go before its official opening, the club was able to confirm that the contours of the new green represented an attractive invitation to play the hole, which – thanks to its new length of 498 metres – will undoubtedly be a challenge for players of all levels. The GTM company carried out work on the green in line with the most demanding quality standards. “Now we are just waiting for players to enjoy the new green,” says Ignacio del Cuvillo. “All that is left to finish is the landscape decoration, and the project will be concluded.”

IGNACIO DEL CUVILLO GERENTE DEL RCG GUADALMINA “Hacerse socio del R.C.G. de Guadalmina es ahora una gran oportunidad” Finalizadas las reformas de mejora realizadas por el RCG de Guadalmina el club se propone ampliar su base social con una propuesta realmente interesante. –¿Cómo se siente tras estos meses de intenso trabajo? –Tremendamente satisfecho, pues aunque el reto era muy ambicioso, debo decir que, gracias a la colaboración de todo el equipo de Guadalmina, y la profesionalidad tanto de los arquitectos Alberto Rodríguez y José Carlos Moya como de la empresa constructora Hezasa, hemos podido concluir estos dos proyectos en apenas ocho meses desde el comienzo de las obras, afectando de una forma mínima la vida social y deportiva del club. La verdad es que, cuando empezamos con las obras de mejora, sabíamos que teníamos ante nosotros un reto que marca un antes y un después en la vida de un club. La construcción del cuarto de palos, incluyendo el nuevo sistema de custodia de las bolsas, junto con la construcción de la nueva tienda y oficina de torneos, ha dotado a Guadalmina de unas instalaciones de un alto nivel. Además ello ha supuesto la adopción de decisiones que han modificado el sistema de trabajo. Los socios del Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, tienen ahora un moderno cuarto de palos en el que el personal se encarga de la custodia y ofrece todas las atenciones que precisen. La adquisición de una flota de trolleys eléctricos es otra de las mejoras que hemos intro-
ducido, aunque el proyecto que quizás más nos ha ilusionado ha sido la puesta en marcha de la nueva tienda, dirigida directamente por nosotros, tras muchos años de estar gestionada por Alfonso Hernández. Y por supuesto el otro proyecto digno de mencionar es la construcción de la nueva nave de mantenimiento, una instalación moderna y muy necesaria, que estamos seguros redundará en un mejor mantenimiento de los campos y una más eficaz forma de utilizar nuestros recursos, tanto de maquinaria como humanos. –Y ahora ¿qué otros proyectos tienen en mente? –Tras la finalización de los anteriormente mencionados, nuestros próximos proyectos pasan por la reforma de la oficina de administración y la construcción de un gimnasio en la zona que antes ocupaba el antiguo cuarto de palos, así como una sala multiusos, orientada hacia nuestra escuela infantil fundamentalmente. Con ello creo que ampliaremos aun más la oferta deportiva y social para nuestros socios, ya que ellos son nuestro principal objetivo. –¿Es probable que con todas esta mejoras el número de peticiones para incorporarse al Real Club de Golf Guadalmina haya aumentado considerablemente? –A pesar de que, como todos sabemos, estamos travesando una situación económica general bastante complicada, lo cierto es que desde hace unos meses hemos recibido, con gran satisfacción, numerosas peticiones para incorporarse al club. Quizás ello ha venido motivado por la gran oferta que hemos realizado para la captación de socios de cara al presente año.

–¿Podría ser más específico?, ¿a qué oferta se está refiriendo? –Bueno, ya lo anunciamos el pasado mes de octubre: durante este año las parejas, con o sin hijos que deseen incorporarse al Real Club de Golf Guadalmina sólo tendrán que abonar una cuota única de alta de ingreso de 4.400 euros por la unidad familiar y, claro, abonar luego las cuotas de juego que más se adapten a sus necesidades. Asimismo hemos ampliado esta opción a aquellos socios que ya estuvieran en activo cuyas parejas todavía no se hubiesen incorporado al club y que lo puedan hacer durante este año sin tener que pagar alta de ingreso y solamente abonando la cuota de juego de la modalidad que decidan. Realmente es una gran oportunidad, y no olvidemos que en el Real Club de Golf Guadalmina las acciones permiten a toda la familia darse de alta, incluyendo los hijos hasta 21 años. –¿Y cuál es el objetivo que persiguen con ello? –Actualmente contamos con 1.900 socios, para dos campos de golf, y nuestra meta sería llegar a los 2.100 socios. Es una cifra en la que realmente nos encontramos cómodos, ya que por la distribución de nuestros socios, entre españoles y extranjeros, la verdad es que mantenemos un gran equilibrio y todos pueden disfrutar de los campos en una buenas condiciones. –¿Algún deseo de cara la futuro? –Tenemos ante nosotros grandes retos deportivos, como el Campeonato Femenino de España de todas las categorías, en mayo, y una prueba profesional del ALPS Tour en julio, y esperamos que sean un éxito, como ya lo fue la Copa Andalucía Masculina celebrada en enero.

Finally, the project that perhaps we have been most enthusiastic about is the opening of the new shop, managed directly by us, after many years being run by our pro Alfonso Hernández. And, of course, the other project worth mentioning is the construction of a new maintenance warehouse, a modern and very much-needed amenity, which we are sure will result in improved maintenance for the course and more efficient use of our resources, both equipment and human. And now what other projects do you have in mind? After completing the aforementioned work our next projects are renovating the administration office and building a gymnasium in the area that used to be taken up by the golf clubs storage room, as well as a multi-use

room, mainly orientated towards our children’s school. I believe that will expand the sporting and social amenities even more for our members, as they are our main objective. With all these improvements, presumably the number of membership applications for Royal Guadalmina Golf Club has increased considerably? Even though we all know we are going through a fairly difficult general economic situation, the truth is that for several months now we have been receiving – with great satisfaction – many requests to join the club. Perhaps that has had something to do with the excellent offer we made in order to attract members in 2014. Can you be more specific – which offer are you referring to? Well, in October 2013 we announced that, for this year, couples with or without children who wanted to join Royal Guadalmina Golf Club would only have to pay a single joining fee of €4,400 for the whole family, plus obviously the playing fees that most suited their requirements and preferences. At the same time we’ve extended that offer to current members whose partners had not yet joined the club; they now can during the year without having to pay a joining fee and only paying the rate in accordance with the playing format they decide on. This really is a great opportunity, and it should not be forgotten that membership entitles the whole family to join, including children up to 21 years. And what is your aim with that initiative? We currently have 1,900 members, for the two golf courses, and our goal is to reach 2,100 members. This is a total we really would find comfortable, because with the distribution of our members among Spaniards and foreigners we maintain a great balance and everyone can enjoy the courses in good conditions. Any desire for the future? Well, we have ahead of us some great sporting challenges, such as the Spanish Women’s Championship in all categories, in May, and a leg of the pros’ Alps Tour in July, and we hope they will be a success, as the Andalucian Men’s Cup was in January. LA PSICÓLOGA DEL GOLF Con apenas treinta y dos años, Rocío Pomares se ha convertido en toda una referencia de la psicología aplicada al deporte y en especial al golf. Finalizó su licenciatura en 2004 e hizo un master en psicología clínica, pero esa orientación, no acabó de convencerla. Decidió ampliar su formación encaminando sus pasos hacia el mundo empresarial y realizó otro master en recursos humanos y organización de empresas, pero seguía sin llenarle ese camino. "Así que" -dice- "tras mucha formación y trabajar en distintos centros, decidí enfocar mis conocimientos en psicología al mundo del deporte por consejo de Raul Sánchez, de Sotogrande, un consultor al que considero un verdadero crack . El

Así que a modo de prueba comencé a aplicar mis conocimientos y experiencias anteriores con él, quien siguió mis recomendaciones con mucho interés. Le fue muy bien y tras su triunfo, me llegó otro golfista, luego otro, y otro más..." "Fue entonces cuando decidí formarme seriamente en psicología deportiva. Por fin había en-
THE PSYCHOLOGY OF GOLF At just 32 years of age, Rocío Pomares has become a leading expert on psychology applied to sport, especially golf. She completed her degree in 2004 and did a masters in clinical psychology, but she remained unconvinced about this direction. She decided to expand her training towards the business world and completed a second masters in human resources and business organisation, but this path still didn’t fulfil her completely. “So,” she says, “after a lot of training and working at different centres, I decided to focus my psychology knowledge on the world of sport, on the advice of Raul Sánchez from Sotogrande, a consultant who I consider to be a real star. He was also the one who advised me to begin with psychology applied to golf. “This coincided with a period when I had a
close relationship with a golfer who had problems concentrating and relaxing. He had a lot of talent but wasn’t achieving all he was capable of. I asked myself, if it’s possible to improve the concentration, relaxation and thought-control of people in some form of upset state, why could this not be applied to sportspeople? So, as something of a trial. I started to apply my knowledge and past experiences to his case, and he followed my instructions with a great deal of interest. It worked very well for him and, after his triumph, another golfer came to me, later another, and one more… “That was when I decided to study sport psychology seriously. Finally, I had found the path that fulfilled me. In Spain, there were numerous courses to study, but they were a lot of theory and little practice applied to the player, so I decided to go to the United States, where this field was much more advanced. I went to Chicago

Mi formación como psicologa clínica me ha sido de mucha utilidad para el trabajo con mis deportistas ya que ante todo son personas con sus circunstancias. You can focus it on different aspects, but it’s basically the same, just changing the names. My training as a clinical psychologist has been very useful for the work with my sports clients, because before anything else they are people with their own circumstances. Furthermore, golf in particular has certain values that are very important in life, and that’s what I try to develop. For example, when a child comes to my consultancy I know that what they gain from our sessions is not just related to competition but also the development of those values to help them in their daily life. For example, if we work on concentration in sport, that is also certainly going to assist them with their studies. We also work on the ability to withstand frustration, as well as handling situations that you don’t like; self-confidence, so important in sport and life; and visualisation, the ability to see what

res que son muy importantes en la vida, y es lo que trato de desarrollar. Por ejemplo, cuando me viene un niño a consulta, ya se que lo que más le va a aportar de nuestras sesiones, no será unicamente en competición, si no lo que el desarrollo de esos valores le va a ayudar en su vida diaria. Por ejemplo, Si trabajamos la concentración en deporte, esto le va a servir seguro para sus estudios;. Trabajamos también la capacidad para aguantar la frustración, cómo manejar situaciones que no te gustan; la autoconfianza, tan importante en el deporte y en la vida; la visualización, la capacidad de ver lo que quieres ver y enfocarte en lo que quieres y no en lo que no quieres...Todo esto son un montón de valores que se pueden aplicar tanto en el deporte como en la vida . –¿Se podría decir de ti que eres una "coach" de golf? –Bueno, el psicólogo es un profesional con carrera universitaria, el coach no. Hay mucha confusión con el tema del coaching. Digamos que el coaching es una herramienta de la psicología, como puede serlo el masaje para el fisioterapeuta, pero no es lo único. La psicología abarca un área mucho más amplia que el coaching. –Hace seis años que empezaste a trabajar en
golf ¿Que has hecho desde entonces? ¿Donde tienes tu consulta? . Empecé en Marbella Golf con Andrés Rosa, un gran profesional que me ayudó mucho a comprender este deporte. Me enseñó a tener sensaciones... Me aportó muchísimo porque me contaba lo que veía en sus alumnos, etc. Monté un despacho en su academia y más tarde me trasladé a Cerrado del Aguila donde llevo ya cuatro años. Allí me visitan toda clase de deportistas pero sobre todo golfistas. Además tambien paso consulta clinica y deportiva en Málaga y en Marbella. Trato a muchos jugadores del Tour, incluso a jugadores y equipos extranjeros.
–¿Podrías darme algún nombre? –Jamás doy nombres de los jugadores con los que trabajo. Guardo secreto profesional y confidencialidad absoluta sobre el trabajo que realizo y sus nombres. Algunos de ellos me han mencionado en los medios, lo cual agradezco, pero dejo que sean ellos los que cuenten, nunca yo; es su mérito, no el mio. Me quedo con la fortuna de haber trabajdo y trabajar con algunos de los mejores deportistas del mundo y aprender de ellos. La humildad que muestran al buscar ayuda de un profesional de la psicología, unida a su capacidad de lucha y sacrificio, hace que sienta respeto y admiración absoluta por todos y cada uno de los deportistas que pasan por mi consulta.
- Can you reveal to us any name? - I never reveal any names of the players I work with. I maintain professional secrecy and complete confidentiality with the work I do and their names. Where is your consultancy? - I began at Marbella Golf with Andrés Rosa, a great professional who helped me a lot to understand the sport. He taught me to have sensations… He gave me a lot because he told me what he saw in his students, etc. I opened an office at his academy and later I moved to Cerrado del Aguila, where I’ve been for four years. All different kinds of sports people visit me there but mainly golfers. I also run clinical and sport consultancies in Málaga and Marbella. GOLF RESORT Excellent course for a relaxing round of golf No one is left indifferent about Marbella Club Golf Resort, the course designed by the late Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas and which opened for play during the final year of the last century. Everyone leaves with the feeling that they have had the privilege of playing one of the Costa del Sol’s most attractive courses – and, without a doubt, the desire to repeat the experience.
Un campo para disfrutar del golf A nadie deja indiferente Marbella Club Golf Resort, el campo que diseñara el antiguo jugador de la Ryder Cup Dave Thomas y que se abrió al juego el último año del pasado siglo. Todo el mundo sale de aquí con la sensación de que ha tenido el privilegio de haber jugado uno de los campos más atractivos de la Costa del Sol y que sin duda repetirá la experiencia cuanto antes. No es uno de esos recorridos en los que resulta tan complicado encontrar una salida decente y sin tener que compartirla con desconocidos. El Marbella Club Golf Resort es, y esa es su filosofía, mucho más exclusivo. Se trata de un campo reservado para un máximo de 85 jugadores al día, combinando clientes alojados en sus hoteles, el Marbella Club y el Puente Romano, residentes en el campo de golf y un número limitado de visitantes. Todos ellos tienen garantizado un día de golf relajado, distendido, sin prisas y agradable. Enclavado en las montañas de Benahavís, y aunque presenta algunos desniveles, su diseñador supo jugar con el terreno para conseguir un campo autentico y noble donde no hay botes injustos a pesar de ser un recorrido montañoso. Las calles casi nunca discurren en paralelo, están bien separadas entre si, por lo que apenas se tiene la ocasión de cruzarse con otros jugadores. Por otro lado, las salidas se dan entre 12 y 20 minutos normalmente, cosa que potencia la sensación de estar jugando solos en medio de unas colinas de exuberante vegetación mediterránea, donde lo único que puede perturbar la concentración es el canto de la perdiz o de alguna que otra ave. El recorrido es muy variado; nadie puede aburrirse aquí. Todos los golpes imaginables hay que ponerlos en práctica, todos los palos de la bolsa son necesarios. Ninguno estorba. Y otra cosa buena: se puede utilizar el buggy en calle. Los greenes son amplios y en perfecto estado, con la velocidad adecuada para el jugador medio. Casi todos están muy protegidos por bunkers o agua, que hay en abundancia en sus dieciocho hoyos. Bastantes
It is not one of those courses where your tee shot is going to be all that difficult, and there is no need to share the round with unknown playing partners. Marbella Club Golf Resort is much more exclusive – and that is its philosophy. The course is reserved for a maximum of 85 players a day, combining clients staying at its hotels, Marbella Club and Puente Romano, residents living around the golf course and a limited number of guests. All are guaranteed a day of golf that is relaxed, enjoyable, unhurried and pleasant. Set in the Benahavís mountains, the course is on various levels, but the designer was able to play with the plot to create a true and well-planned layout that is unhampered by unfair bounces – in spite of being mountainous terrain. The fairways hardly ever run parallel – they are well separated between each other – so you rarely come across other players. In addition, tee times are normally between 12 and 20 minutes apart, which

de sus tees están en alto por lo que las vistas son sencillamente espectaculares o sobre la montaña y la Sierra de las Nieves o sobre el Mediterráneo, la costa africana y Gibraltar. Especial mención en este sentido merece la salida del 18, un par 5 que permite la opción de acabar la ronda con un buen resultado, al menos en ese hoyo. La casa club no es uno de esos enormes edificios que a veces no se sabe muy bien para que sirven. Es pequeña, funcional, elegante y de estilo colonial, perfectamente adaptada al tipo de prestaciones que allí se ofrecen. El restaurante de la casa club es una auténtica maravilla, tanto por su carta como por su bodega y el nivel de calidad y servicio ofrecidos. Sin duda, un restaurante para ir después de jugar o cualquier día para almorzar. Si le gusta disfrutar de un excelente campo sin agobios, con buenas atenciones y un entorno muy agradable, y todo ello con una magnífica relación calidad-precio, el Marbella Club Golf Resort es una gran elección. boosts the sensation of playing alone in the midst of hills of verdant Mediterranean vegetation – where the only distraction to your concentration is likely to be the singing of a partridge or other bird. The layout is extremely varied: no one becomes bored here. All shots imaginable can be put into practice; all clubs in the bag are required. Nothing disturbs or hinders you. And another standout aspect: you can use a buggy on the fairways. The greens are wide and in perfect condition, with the right speed for average golfers.

Most are very well protected by bunkers or water, which is in abundance throughout the 18 holes. Several tees are raised, so the views are simply spectacular, either towards the mountain and Sierra de las Nieves range or over the Mediterranean, northern African coast and Gibraltar. Especially worth highlighting in this case is the tee for the 18th, a par-5 that gives you a solid option of finishing the round with a good score, at least on this hole. The clubhouse is not one of those massive structures that, sometimes, you wonder what it is all for. It’s small, functional and elegant, in a

colonial style, perfectly adapted to the kinds of services and amenities on offer. The clubhouse restaurant is superb, both for its menu and bodega, as well as the level of quality service. Without a doubt, the ideal restaurant to head to after a round – or any day for lunch. Расскажите нам о ней подробней: там Вы гарантируете, что человек, который проходит поле за 100 ударов, после тренировок с Вами улучшит свой результат до 90 ударов. Это звучит невероятно!

Новички могут выбрать между 2 или 4 часами ежедневных тренировок; уже после 10 часов тренировок, они могут быть подготовлены для раундов игры в гольф. Когда они оканчивают 2 х недельный курс, они в состоянии играть сами и наслаждаться этой замечательной игрой. Продвинутый игрок, который хочет улучшить свой гандикап, может выбрать курс с 5-ю часами ежедневных тренировок, из которых 2 часа они проводят на драйвинг рейндже и другие 3 часа на 9 –и лунках. После одной недели, игроки обычно улучшают свой гандикап на 5 пунктов. Для игроков с единичным гандикапом, я предлагаю курс с 7 до 8 часов в сутки: игра на 18-и лунках, а затем работа над собой на драйвинг рейндже. Таким образом, даже очень хорошие игроки могут улучшить свою игру и получить больше удовольствия и успеха в игре в гольф.

Как стать членом Федерации Гольфа Испании Стать членом Федерации Гольфа Испании довольно просто Возможны два варианта получения лицензии: во-первых, через любой гольф - клуб, который выдаст Вам сертификат гандикапа, в соответствии с Вашим уровнем игры, а в случае, если у Вас уже есть гандикап, выданный в другой стране, Вы можете подать заявку в Королевскую Федерацию гольфа Андалусии. Анкету на получение лицензии можно получить и заполнить по электронной почте. Во втором случае, к заполненной анкете нужно приложить гандикап или лицензию, выданную в другой стране. Для тех, кто хочет научиться играть в гольф и получить лицензию Андалузской Федерации лучше всего обратиться в гольф-клуб или гольф-академию и пройти курс обучения, в завершении которого Вам выдадут гандикап. Это позволит Вам обратиться за лицензией в Федерацию. Для того, чтобы играть на гольф -
полях Андалусии, Вам потребуются лицензия, хотя совсем необязательно, что в каждом клубе будут просить предъявить ее перед началом игры. Лицензия выдается сроком на один год – с января по декабрь текущего года и стоимость для взрослого составляет 74,60 евро, для детей и подростков
немного дешевле. Лицензия Королевской Ассоциации гольфа в Андалусии позволит Вам принимать участия в официальных мероприятиях и соревнованиях на национальном уровне. В стоимость лицензии входит: 1º Страховка гражданской ответственности от возможных несчастных случаев, которые могут произойти на авторизированных Федерацией гольф-полях; 2º Взнос в Королевскую Федерацию гольфа Испании; 3º Взнос в Королевскую Федерацию гольфа Андалусии. «Los Naranjos» принадлежит к избранной группе полей для гольфа на Коста дель Соль, его строительство началось в ту эпоху, когда развитие гольф проектов еще не было широко развито и ограничено, как на сегодняшний день Генеральным планом по застройке территории. Американский архитектор заключил контракт на проектирование и строительство гольф поля в Новой Андалусии, в жилом макро-комплексе «Las Brisas» с компанией Г-на Хосе Бануса, владельца Пуэрто Бануса. Выбранный участок размером в 70 гектар идеально подходил для строительства поля для гольфа: слегка волнистый ландшафт и река, протекающая через участок, апельсиновая роща – которая в итоге и определила название поля. Хосе Банус хотел создать чемпионское гольф - поле для соревнований с классическим дизайном, широкими фарватерами и большими гринами, подходящими для международных турниров, но и приятным для игроков всех уровней. В 1982 году компания «Банус» продала оба поля бизнес - группе «Romero – Sauer» . «Las Brisas» стал членским клубом, а «Los Naranjos» по-прежнему остался коммерческим. практики и разных реконструкций, «Los Naranjos» консолидировался в качестве одного из лучших клубов на Коста дель Соль. Можно совсем справедливо заметить, что это поле является обязательным для игры для взыскательных игроков в гольф. Мнения игроков, которые имели удовольствие попробовать «на вкус» поле «Los Naranjos» были единогласно хвалебные; они не только превозносят дизайн, а и исключительное обслуживание, подчеркивают изумительность гринов и фарватеров.

Si hacía algún tiempo que no pasaba por Estepona, en pleno corazón de la Costa del Sol, no va a reconocerla. El cambio ha sido radical en los últimos años.
If it has been some time since you last walked through Estepona, in the heart of the Costa del Sol, then you will not recognise it. The changes over the past few years have been radical.
Ha sido una transformación, en cierta forma callada, que ha devuelto a la ciudad su orgullo y la buena imagen perdida por razones ajenas a ella. El aumento del turismo ha sido espectacular, un 48% más en 2013, y la confianza de los inversores se ha recuperado. En buena medida, el responsable de todo esto ha sido su actual alcalde, José María García Urbano, quien con imaginación y escasos medios ha logrado el milagro. –Sr. García Urbano, ¿presume de pueblo? –No es que presuma yo, presumen los vecinos. Los esteponeros están más contentos que nunca y han recuperado el orgullo de su ciudad. Ahora les encanta pasear por ella y traer a sus amigos y familiares. Los cambios han sido increíbles en todo. Aunque hay algunos que se notan menos, porque son de organización interna del Ayuntamiento, pero que son imprescindibles para equilibrar y ordenar las cuentas que es lo nos permite acometer las reformas estructurales que necesitábamos. Esta transformación de la ciudad yo diría que ha sido en tres aspectos: por un lado, en todo lo referente al mantenimiento y cuidado de jardines y playas, que se está haciendo de forma modélica, si me permite decirlo. Por otra parte hemos dotado a Estepona de equipamientos básicos que no teníamos, como un recinto ferial que estamos terminando y un teatro para seiscientos espectadores que está también muy avanzado. Y el tercer aspecto, el que más fácil se ve cuando llegas a la ciudad, es la ornamentación y arreglo del casco antiguo, que ahora merece la pena pasear, recorrer, porque está lleno de flores, de olores... Es una puesta en valor de un centro histórico que cuenta con un entramado de calles de los siglos XVIII y XIX muy interesante y bien conservado. In a certain way the transformation has been a silent one, returning to the city the pride and good image it had lost for reasons beyond its control. The increase in tourism has been spectacular – 48 per cent more in 2013 – and investor confidence has been regained. To a great extent, the person responsible for this major renewal has been its current mayor, José María García Urbano, who with a touch of imagination and limited resources has achieved a miracle. – Mr. García Urbano, do you feel like it is a close-knit village community? - It’s not so much that I feel that way; it’s that Estepona’s residents feel it. They are happier than ever and have regained their pride in the city. Now they love strolling through the city and bringing their friends and family. The changes have been incredible in every way. Some may not be as noticeable as others – as they are due to internal organisation by the town hall – but they are indispensable in order to balance and bring order to the accounts, which is what enables us to carry out the structural reforms we need. I would say this transformation of the city has been in three aspects: on the one hand, everything related to maintenance and care of the gardens and beaches, which is being carried out in model fashion, if you would allow me to say that. In addition, we have equipped Estepona with basic amenities that we didn’t have before, such as the fairground which we are now finishing, and a theatre for 600 spectators which is also well advanced. And the third aspect, which you notice much clearer when arriving in the city, is the decoration and repairs carried out in the old

turas, poemas en placas de cerámica, etc. –¿Estarán notando, entonces, un aumento del flujo de turistas que visitan la ciudad? . La percepción es diaria. Antes las calles estaban llenas de coches y baches, ahora están llenas de flores, árboles y alegría; y, a veces, de bicicletas. Ayer mismo me crucé con un grupo de japoneses con sus cámaras. Eso antes era impensable. Te los encontrabas en Ronda, en Granada... pero aquí no. –Ustedes definen a Estepona como el jardín de la Costa del Sol... –Sí. Es un concepto que estamos demostrando con hechos: ya se han puesto, entre otras cosas, más de 9.000 macetas por las calles. Los patios de Córdoba, tan famosos, pueden tener doscientas o quinientas como máximo y aquí cada calle es un jardín. –¿Qué otros proyectos contemplan para dotar a la ciudad de un mayor atractivo turístico? –Hay uno en especial que creo es muy interesante. Se trata de instalar un gran géiser artificial frente a la costa, que sería único en el Mediterráneo. Está diseñado ya y solo estamos esperando las autorizaciones para empezar las obras. La idea es generar una fuente marina a unos 250 metros de la orilla que producirá un chorro de 100 metros de altura. Como un edificio de más de treinta plantas. Se verá desde todos los puntos de la bahía de Marbella y Estepona, desde Gibraltar e incluso Ceuta. Irá acompañado de un juego de luces y sonido, que lo harán muy atractivo de noche, y se convertirá en un foco de referencia sin duda. –¿Para cuándo está previsto? –Las obras son tres meses, y en cuanto tengamos la autorización nos ponemos a trabajar. Si nos la diesen ya, a principios de verano estaría terminado. –Estepona cuenta con ocho campos de golf de 9 y 18 hoyos ¿Qué representa este deporte como segmento turístico para la ciudad? –El golf es muy importante para nosotros porque es un elemento de atracción fundamental, sobre todo en temporada baja. Y a los campos que tenemos aquí hay que unir los de Marbella y Benahavís, en esta especie de triángulo de oro que tenemos en la Costa del Sol, en el que sumamos casi cuarenta en apenas treinta kilómetros. Son muchos los visitantes que llegan para 80

practicar este deporte, y además se está produciendo un fenómeno poco conocido en años anteriores, que la gente de Estepona está empezando a jugar al golf. Y eso está muy bien, que no solamente tengamos campos para atraer turistas si no también para que los esteponeros practiquen este deporte. –Hay campos de golf en Estepona diseñados por grandes arquitectos de prestigio internacional. ¿Esto, supongo, es un plus muy útil a la hora de hacer promoción de ellos ? –Por supuesto. Los nombres de Bernhard Von Limburger, Gary Player o Cabell B. Robinson suscitan el interés de los aficionados a este deporte. –Además de campos, Estepona tiene una planta hotelera perfecta para acoger al turismo de golf... –Contamos con una gran concentración de hoteles de cuatro y cinco estrellas que son muy buenos, están muy bien situados y gestionados por marcas importantes y de gran prestigio internacional. Son edificios arquitectónicamente destacables, siempre en primera línea de playa, y en los mejores emplazamientos de nuestros 23 kilómetros de costa. No todas las ciudades han ido reservando parcelas y equipamientos para planta hotelera en lugares así. En cuanto a marcas, contamos, por ejemplo, con Kempinski, que es una referencia mundial, a la que acabamos de hacer un reconocimiento especial el día de Andalucía por su labor y aportación a la ciudad.
ESTEPONA, CAMBIO DE CICLO "De 2012 a 2013 el aumento del turismo ha sido impresionante" -quiere recalcar García Urbano. "Ha aumentado un 48%. Son datos del INE (Instituto Nacional de Estadística) no nuestros. Es una subida formidable porque la ciudad está recuperando el sitio que nunca debió perder". "Siempre" -sigue- "hemos contado con un gran equipamiento turístico, un clima magnífico, pero la marca Estepona se vino abajo hace años por las historias de corrupción y politiquerio barato que hubo durante una época. Ahora se ha recuperado totalmente la imagen de la ciudad. Y tengo una prueba muy clara, que es la confianza de los inversores". "Recientemente hemos sacado una parcela a concurso parta hacer un centro comercial con equipamiento hotelero y se han presentado tres empresas para una inversión de unos 40 millones de Euros. En cada licitación que hacemos acuden más y más empresas porque hay seriedad, seguridad... Las cosas están muchísimo mejor que antes, que no movíamos un papel de nadie que quisiese invertir aquí. Estepona va hacia arriba, en un cambio de ciclo. Es como si se hubiese dado el pistoletazo de salida para una nueva era de la ciudad..."

part of town, which is now well worth strolling through and checking out, because it’s full of flowers, of fragrant smells… It returns value to an historic centre that has a network of streets dating to the 18th and 19th centuries, extremely interesting and well preserved. All of this we are doing with walls, plants, sculptures, poems on ceramic plaques, etc. - So in that case you must be noticing an increase in the flow of tourists visiting the city? - It’s a daily perception. Before, the streets were full of cars and potholes: now they are full of flowers, trees and happiness – and, at times, bicycles. Yesterday I came across a group of Japanese with their cameras. Before, that was unthinkable. You would find them in Ronda, in Granada… but not here. - The town hall describes Estepona as the garden of the Costa del Sol… Yes, it’s a concept that we are displaying with initiatives: among other things, we have now installed more than 9,000 pot plants in the streets. The famous patios of Córdoba might have 200 or 500, at the most; and here every street is a garden. - What other projects are you planning for the city to give it greater tourist appeal? - There is one in particular that I believe is extremely interesting. It involves the installation of a large artificial geyser opposite the coastline that will be the only one in the Mediterranean. It has been designed and we are just waiting for authorisation to begin work. The idea is to generate a sea fountain 250 metres from the shoreline that will produce a 100-metre-high stream of water. Like a buil-
ding of more than 30 storeys… It will be seen from all points in the Marbella and Estepona bay, from Gibraltar and even Ceuta. It will be complemented by a set of lights and sound, which will make it very attractive in the evenings, and it will undoubtedly become a focus of attention. - When is it expected to be finished? - The project takes three months, and as soon as we have authorisation we’ll begin work. If they gave it to us now, it would be finished by the start of summer. - Estepona has eight golf courses of nine and 18 holes. What does this sport represent for Estepona as part of the tourism segment? - Golf is very important to us because it’s a key attraction, especially during the low season. And, together with the courses we have in Estepona, we should add those in Marbella and Benahavís, all forming part of what is like a golden triangle here on the Costa del Sol – nearly 40 courses in barely 30 kilometres. Many visitors come here to play golf, and there is also a new phenomenon little seen in previous years, in that the people of Estepona are also beginning to play golf. And that’s very good, not only that we have courses to attract tourists but also for Estepona residents who want to play. - There are courses in Estepona designed by prestigious international architects. Presumably, that is a very useful advantage when promoting them? - Certainly, the names of Bernhard Von Limburger, Gary Player and Cabell B. Robinson arouse interest among golfers. - In addition to golf courses, Estepona has

This is a tremendous rise, because the city is regaining the place it should never have lost. “We have always had great tourist amenities, and a magnificent climate, but the Estepona brand lost its lustre a few years ago with the stories of corruption and cheap politics that were around for a period. Now the city’s image had been completely restored. And I have very clear proof of that: investor confidence. ”Recently, we offered a plot of land for tender to build a commercial centre with hotel amenities, and three companies made offers for an investment of 40 million euros. For every project we put out to tender, more and more companies are responding, because now there is a serious and secure scenario… Things are much better than before; we don’t shift the paperwork for anyone who wants to invest here. Estepona is on the way up, in a change of cycle. It’s like the starting gun has sounded for a new era for the city...”

En cuanto a diseño, uno de los principales rasgos característicos y diferenciadores del Spano lo encontramos en su vista lateral, donde las puertas se integran perfectamente en un arco muy marcado donde quedan situadas tanto las propias puertas como las entradas de aire, que además de cumplir una función aerodinámica, refrigeran los radiadores de aceite, la dirección asistida y los frenos, entre otros elementos. Se trata de un diseño muy novedoso nunca visto hasta la fecha, una seña más de identidad del Spano.

As a sign of its exclusivity, only 99 models of this extraordinary supersports car will be built to order and several world patents have been obtained. Indeed it is a car that is the beginning of an industry which leads to not only job creation, but also the transfer of the resulting technology to other sectors of society. One of Spano´s main distinguishing features lies in its lateral view, where doors fit perfectly into air intakes which, apart from performing an aerodynamic function, refrigerate elements such as oil coolers, power-assisted steering and brakes, among others. Its design is original and unprecedented, which is yet another distinguishing mark of Concept. As in all true sportscars, the doors have no doorframes.

El acceso al habitáculo se consigue presionando el logotipo de GTA, logrando así un diseño más elegante al carecer de los tiradores tradicionales. La gran superficie acristalada otorga una fuerte personalidad al coche, convirtiéndose en otro de sus rasgos característicos, consiguiendo una sensación de amplitud interior. El diseño interior se ha realizado con materiales de gran calidad como el carbono y el cuero, y cuenta con una gran habitabilidad, de forma que una persona de hasta 2 metros puede acomodarse sin ningún tipo de problema. El techo panorámico de cristal incrementa la sensación de amplitud, además de mejorar la luminosidad del habitáculo. El diseño del salpicadero transmite los valores del coche, con una apariencia deportiva, pero sin renunciar a la elegancia plasmada a través del confort y el lujo. El cuadro de instrumentos está presidido por una pantalla LCD, que puede ser personalizada a voluntad del cliente, y donde el conductor tiene a su disposición toda la información necesaria. En el mismo quedan integrados los botones necesarios para regular la altura del frontal de la carrocería, la regulación del ala trasera , así como el sistema de opacidad del techo. El volante, realizado en carbono y piel, es de tres radios, muy acorde con la deportividad que transmite este vehículo. Tras éste, se sitúa un joystick para accionar elementos como las luces, limpiaparabrisas e intermitentes. Por su parte, los asientos Recaro, en cuero , cuentan con un diseño deportivo y una perfecta sujeción. Para una mayor exclusividad, han sido personalizados con los anagramas de la marca. Cuentan con regulación eléctrica y sistema de calefacción y refrigeración. MOTOR GTA ha desarrollado un motor especial para este vehículo, eligiendo un V10 de 7,9 litros montado en posición trasera longitudinal, que le otorga una potencia de 925 CV y un par motor de 1220 Nm. Los técnicos de GTA han trabajado para potenciar el compresor, de forma que el GTA Spano consigue unas prestaciones de infarto, con más de 350 Km/h de velocidad punta y una aceleración de 0 a 100 Km/h en menos de tres segundos, cifras que le sitúan directamente entre los cinco coches más rápidos comercializados en todo el mundo. La precisión de la unidad de control de motor (ECU) ayuda a que el motor ofrezca un aumento progresivo de la potencia en cualquier situación. El Spano dispone también de un sistema de control electrónico de la potencia suministrada a voluntad del cliente, de forma que se pueda regular la potencia entregada desde un mínimo de 450 CV hasta la potencia máxima.La caja de cambios está disponible con dos opciones, ambas con siete velocidades: automática secuencial con levas en el volante o secuencial manual.

Lifestyle Access to the interior is accomplished by pressing the GTA logotype, rendering it a more elegant design without traditional handles. The large glazed surface affords the vehicle a strong quality, another of its distinguishing features. The vehicle has a patented interior lighting and liquid crystal shading system, and the degree of light required inside may be regulated. Its completely novel sun visors are set into the glass and boast the same technology. The interior design has been achieved with highquality materials such as leather and carbon fibre. There is ample space; indeed a person over two metres high can be comfortably seated inside. Its panoramic glass roof enhances the sense of spaciousness and also improves luminosity inside. The dashboard has been designed to transmit the car’s values; although it has a sporting look, it is also elegant to give an impression of luxury and comfort. Its Recaro seats, all leather, are another feature of its sport design and are perfectly held. They display the brand´s anagrams, thus affording the vehicle more exclusivity. The seats also have an electrical adjustment system with heating and refrigeration. ENGINE GTA has developed a special engine for this car, and has opted for a V10, 7,9 litre engine placed in a longitudinal rear position. It has 925 HP and 1220 Nm torque. GTA’s technicians have worked hard to enhance the compressor so that GTA achieves amazing performances at a top speed of over 350 km/h, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. These figures place it directly among the five fastest cars commercialised in the world. The precision of the engine´s control unit helps the engine to offer and increase in power progressively under all circumstances. Spano also has an electronic power control system, supplied according to the customer´s wishes, which regulates power from a minimum of 450 cv to maximum power. The gearbox is available in two options, both of which have seven gears: automatic sequential 7-speed with a paddle shift steering wheel or manual sequential.

os diseñadores del NC14 de Jeanneau han querido con esta embarcación romper con el diseño tradicional de la mayorías de las embarcaciones con eslora corta. Así, en este modelo el equipo de Garroni Desing y Tony Castro proyectan una idea de barco que se parece más a un apartamento flotante con una amplia terraza y donde priman las vistas al mar. Con trazos limpios y mucha elegancia, en esta embarcación francesa destacan especialmente sus superficies acristaladas, y sus grandes ventanales laterales. Ambos diseños impregnan de luz el interior. Además, destaca también la incorporación de techo corredizo. A todo ello, se une una amplia bañera que se abre hacia el mar, con un fondeadero que permite disfrutar relajadamente de un baño. Además, a bordo destacan sus amplios camarotes dobles. Todo con un diseño actual y personalizable. Comodidad a bordo, amplios espacios y modularidad. El Jeanneau es un barco agradable, fácil de pilotar y maniobrar y cómodo para pasar la noche o estancias de fin de semana. The aim of the Jeanneau NC14 designers was to break with the traditional design of most shortlength boats. To that end, Garroni Desing and Tony Castro’s team devised the concept of a boat that seems more like a floating apartment, with an expansive terrace and sea views predominating. With its clean lines and exceptional elegance, the French model is particularly highlighted by its glazed surfaces and large side windows. Both designs provide great shafts of light to the interior, while another key feature is the inclusion of a sliding sunroof. Added to that is a large bathtub that opens to the sea, supported by anchorage that enables you to enjoy a relaxing bath. Also on board are two expansive double cabins. And all with a modern and personalised design… comfortable, spacious and modular. The Jeanneau is an enjoyable boat, easy to steer and manoeuvre, and comfortable for spending the night or weekend. UN PARAÍSO PARA GOLFISTAS GUADALMINA, combinación perfecta de elegantes casas y golf En 1933, el navarro Norberto Goizueta, navegaba tranquilamente por el Mediterráneo junto a su familia a bordo de su velero “Serva La Bari”. Desde su barco descubrió en la costa sur de España lo que hoy se conoce como Guadalmina, en el municipio de Marbella. Compró las tierras frente al mar y luego de utilizarlas para agricultura decidió construir sobre estas tierras el primer campo de golf de la zona con la colaboración del diseñador Javier Arana, e inauguraron lo que actualmente se conoce como Guadalmina Sur, el campo sur y el Hotel Guadalmina en 1959. Hoy el Real Club de Golf de Guadalmina se compone de dos campos de golf de 18 hoyos. El campo de Golf Sur es reconocido mundialmente tanto por su dificultad como por su belleza, rodeado de árboles maduros y por su famoso hoyo 11 sobre el mar, un verdadero ícono que refleja la excelencia en campos de golf que ofrece el sur de España. El Club de Golf ha sido sede de importantes torneos como el Campeonato de España de 1965, y las pruebas de clasificación de la Escuela del Tour Europeo en 1995 y 1996, o el Campeonato de España de Profesionales de la APG en 1998. A GOLFING PARADISE Golf and elegant homes combined, this is the essence of GUADALMINA In 1933, Norberto Goizueta, from the province of Navarra in northern Spain, sailed peacefully with his family down the Mediterranean aboard his sailboat, the “Serva La Bari”. Skirting along the southern coast of Spain on his boat, he discovered what is today known as “Guadalmina”, in the municipality of Marbella. He purchased the beachfront estate, and after initially using it for farming, decided to build on it the area’s first golf course in conjunction with designer Javier Arana, inaugurating what is today known as “Guadalmina Sur”, the south course, as well as Hotel Guadalmina, in 1959. Today, the Royal Guadalmina Golf Club consists of two 18-hole courses. The original south course, “Campo Sur”, enjoys a reputation around the world for being as challenging as it is beautiful, adorned by magnificent mature trees and with its famous beachfront 11th hole, a true icon of the golf excellence on offer in southern Spain. The Golf Club has hosted numerous important tournaments, including the Spanish Championship in 1965, the qualifying rounds of the European Tour School in 1995 and 1996, and the Spanish Championship of APG (Asociación de Gestores del Deporte Profesional) Professionals in 1998. Kamakura abrió sus puertas en 1997 para coincidir con la Ryder Cup celebrada en el vecino campo de Valderrama. The San Roque Club acogió en sus instalaciones a los equipos europeos, americanos y a sus familias, así como a el personal del Circuito Europeo y de prensa. Desde este momento Kamakura fue un referente por su calidad y servicio. Debido a la demanda popular, el restaurante se amplió en mayo de 2002. La decoración refleja la pureza y calidad de diseño japonés consiguiendo que sus platos representen la autentica cocina japonesa. El menú que se ofrece es cocina tradicional japonesa y todos los chefs y personal de servicio se han formado en Japón. Hay otros restaurantes que hacen una fusión de comida japonesa con otras culturas culinarias, en nuestro caso esto lo hacemos con muy pocos platos, pero si nos referimos a cocina japonesa tradicional puedo decir que es un fiel reflejo de la misma , y en este sentido puedo decir que es de los mejores, no solo
de la Costa del Sol , sino de España. –¿Qué destacaría de el? –Kamakura destaca en muchos aspectos. En primer lugar, todo el material del restaurante esta importado desde Japón: la madera del Shushi Bar, la cubertería… ¡hasta las tejas!, lo cual lo convierte en un restaurante exclusivo y muy especial. Todo el personal ha tenido un periodo de formación en Tokio y continuamos con dicha formación. Por ejemplo el otoño pasado vino el conocido chef Furukawa, que actualmente trabaja en Londres, para seguir formando a nuestros chefs. Incluso la decoración del patio interior es al estilo japonesa así como el diseño del jardín. –¿Qué cree que lo diferencia de los demás restaurantes japoneses de España? –Creo que la diferencia fundamental, aparte de lo nombrado anteriormente, es la

The San Roque Club Golf & Country Club was the official resort venue for the European and American teams and their families, as well as the European Tour staff and press. From this point on Kamakura became a byname for quality and service. Due to popular demand, the restaurant was extended in May 2002. The décor reflects the purity and quality of Japanese design and every effort is made for your dining experience to be as authentic as possible. The menu offered is traditional Japanese and all their chefs and servers have trained in Japan. Kamakura can be found at the back of the golf clubhouse by the fountain terrace. San Roque Club manager Guillermo Navarro reveals the “secrets” of Kamakura… - Do you believe this is the best Japanese restaurant on the Costa del Sol? - In my opinion, there is no doubt about that. Other restaurants offer a fusion of Japanese and other cultures’ cuisine – in our case we do that with very few dishes – but if we are referring to traditional Japanese cuisine I can say that here it is a faithful reflection of that, and in this sense it is one of the best, not only on the Costa del Sol but in the whole of Spain. - What aspects would you highlight? - Kamakura stands out in many ways. In the
first place, all the restaurant materials have been imported from Japan: the Sushi Bar wood, the cutlery… even the tiles! This makes it an exclusive and very special restaurant. All the staff have had a period of training in Tokyo, and we maintain that training. For example, last autumn, we had a visit by renowned chef Furukawa, who currently works in London, to continue training our chefs. Even the inside patio décor is Japanese style, as well as the garden design. - What do you believe makes it stand out from other Japanese restaurants in Spain? - I believe the main difference, apart from what I mentioned before, is the quality of its products. All are imported from Japan, from the soya and fish to the vinegar we use to season the sushi… of course, also brought from Japan. The aim of our restaurant is to familiarise people with Japanese cuisine outside the country of its origin. El propósito de nuestro restaurante es dar a conocer la comida Japonesa fuera de su país de origen. Mantener una alta calidad en cuanto a la cocina y el servicio son objetivos primordiales que nos transmite la familia Tezuka, dueña de San Roque Club , donde se encuentra el restaurante. Ellos sienten que este restaurante es una manera de mostrar su cultura en nuestro país; de hecho, el Sr. Shun Tezuka siempre define al Kamakura como “a piece of Japan in Spain”, y obviamente nosotros seguimos fielmente su filosofía... –¿Cuál sería su cena ideal en Kamakura? –A pesar de que la gente tenga muy estereotipada la comida japonesa, hay una enorme variedad de platos a elegir: la cocina japonesa no se trata solo de pescado crudo. Obviamente el sushi y el sashimi son espectaculares, tanto por la calidad del producto como por el corte, fundamental para que sea perfecto. Pero el cliente también puede degustar desde las típicas sopas japonesas, la tempura, hasta unos riquísimos entrecots, solomillos y pescados, en especial la ventresca de atún, cocinados delante del cliente en nuestros Teppanyakis. Hay un postre que en particular me gusta mucho que es el Yukumi Daifuku, consistente en una masa de arroz muy fina rellena de helado. Muy difícil de elaborar y es impresionante. –¿Es prohibitivo visitarle? –No, pienso que los precios de Kamakura

NOTICIAS DE LA REAL FEDERACIÓN Lilja y Waller, ganadores en el Circuito de Pitch & Putt Leonardo Lilja ha sumado su segunda victoria consecutiva en el Circuito Andaluz de Pitch & Putt, que ha celebrado su tercera prueba de la temporada en Sherry Golf Jerez. El jugador malagueño, reciente vencedor del Campeonato de Sevilla, selló una soberbia vuelta de 52 golpes (-2), siendo el único de los 65 participantes que consiguió restarle Leonardo Lilja golpes al trazado gaditano. La segunda plaza, a tres golpes del bicampeón de España de esta modalidad de golf, fue para Pedro Marín. En lo que concierne a las clasificaciones hándicap, Pablo Carrascosa, con un registro de 52 golpes netos, resultó ganador de la primera categoría, aventajando en dos a Lucía Marín. En segunda categoría, Rubén Moreno, también con 52 golpes, superó por la mínima a Alberto Collado. Por su parte, Tim Waller se ha proclamado vencedor de la cuarta prueba del Circuito Andaluz de Pitch & Putt que se ha disputado en el trazado sevillano de La Escuela Pública La Cartuja. El jugador británico, que ya estuvo muy cerca de lograr el Tim Waller triunfo en el torneo celebrado en Greenlife Golf Club, se apuntó su primer gran éxito de la temporada tras presentar una tarjeta de 54 golpes (par). A continuación, a un solo golpe del ganador, finalizaron empatados el dúo perseguidor formado por Antonio Pina y Andrés Pastor. En La Cartuja, la alegría para la familia Waller fue por partida doble, ya que David, hijo de Tim, se coronó en primera categoría hándicap con una ronda de 54 golpes netos. Zapletal triunfa en los Nacionales REALE 2014 Matyas Zapletal ha logrado el triunfo en categoría Infantil Masculino en los Puntuables Nacionales Juveniles REALE 2014, que se han disputado durante dos jornadas en los campos murcianos de Hacienda Riquelme Golf (prueba masculina) y Mar Menor Golf (prueba femenina). En total, más de una treintena de jugadores andaluces tomaron parte en una cita que cada año reúne a 180 jóvenes valores del golf nacional. En cuanto a la clasificación Infantil Masculino, Matyas Zapletal fue el mejor con un registro de 144 golpes (69+75), que le dejó a un solo golpe de igualar con el ganador en categoría Cadete Masculino, el madrileño Alejandro del Rey. El joven golfista checo, con licencia por la Real Federación Andaluza de Golf, toma el relevo del cordobés Juan Manuel Dueñas, vencedor el pasado año de esta categoría. Por otro lado, respecto a las féminas, la cadete Ana Peláez fue tercera merced a una segunda vuelta de 70 (-2) para 142 al total. La bicampeona de España de Pitch & Putt finalizó a cinco golpes de la asturiana Alejandra Pasarín. Cabe recordar que en los últimos años la
delegación andaluza ha cosechado grandes resultados en estos Puntuables Nacionales Juveniles. Así las cosas, en 2011 María Parra se impuso en categoría Infantil Femenino y Carlos Leandro hizo lo propio en categoría Cadete Masculino. Un año más tarde nuestras jóvenes promesas volverían a erigirse en protagonistas gracias a las victorias de Laura Gómez y Pablo Rodríguez-Tabernero en categoría Cadete. Circuito Seniors en el Real Club de Golf de Sevilla El magnífico recorrido hispalense del Real Club de Golf de Sevilla albergó la segunda prueba del XVII Circuito Seniors de Andalucía. Más de un centenar de jugadores han participado en una cita donde los golfistas locales han firmado notables actuaciones. En cuanto a los ganadores, José Luis Rodríguez fue profeta en su tierra y con un resultado de 40 puntos, superó por la mínima a Antonio Pina en primera categoría de caballeros. La segunda victoria local, con un total de 35 puntos, fue cosechada por Eloísa Pérez en categoría de Damas. La jugadora sevillana finalizó primera con dos puntos de ventaja sobre sus compañeras de club, Gloria Osorio y Purificación Alcalá. En cuanto a la segunda categoría de caballeros, Salvador Vega evitó el triplete de los golfistas del club anfitrión con un sensacional acumulado de 45 puntos. En categoría de Caballeros, Víctor Pastor Rufián, que defendía el título cosechado en 2013, y Leonardo Lilja volvieron a copar los dos primeros puestos como en la última edición, aunque eso sí, este año el jugador malagueño se tomó la revancha para sumar un nuevo éxito a su brillante hoja de servicios. La Copa de Andalucía Femenina, en Golf El Puerto La balear Nuria Iturrios Servera conquistó la segunda edición de la Copa de Andalucía Femenina, prueba puntuable para los Rankings Mundial, Nacional y Andaluz que se desarrolló a lo largo de tres jornadas en las magníficas instalaciones de Golf El Puerto (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz). En cuanto a las participantes andaluzas, María Parra Luque fue la mejor de las nuestras tras concluir tercera, igualada a 220 golpes, con la valenciana Marta Pérez Sanmartín, que también ha recibido el premio como primera clasificada cadete. A pesar de no poder alzarse con el título, María Parra completó un gran torneo, compartiendo la primera plaza, al término de los 18 hoyos iniciales, junto a Sara Navarro Morilla, Silvia Bañón Ibáñez y Patricia Bardají Felez. En marcha el Centro de Tecnificación Deportiva de Golf de La Cañada El primer Centro Especializado de Tecnificación Deportiva de Golf instalado en el Club La Cañada (Guadiaro, Cádiz) ha comenzado su andadura. "El pasado 9 de marzo tuvo lugar la primera concentración de los jóvenes seleccionados para participar en esta iniciativa. Acudieron diecisiete y todavía quedan pendientes de asignar otras tres plazas más, hasta completar los veinte definitivos", dice Angel Gutierrez, presidente de La Cañada. "Fueron cuarenta los aspirantes que optaron al cetro para cubrir esas veinte plazas disponibles y diecisiete los seleccionados en principio por los técnicos"- sigue el Presidente. El Rey, que bajó el telón en el campo de La Reserva de Sotogrande (San Roque, Cádiz). Ningún español había ganado el torneo desde que lo hiciese Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño en 2003, lo que ofrece una idea de la magnitud del logro de este joven golfista. La final se empezó a desnivelar en los primeros hoyos, en los que el otro finalista, el austriaco Robin Goger cometió errores propios del momento. Tras dos hoyos en los que imperó el par, Daniel Berná se situó 1up en el 3 y amplió ventaja en el Daniel Berná observa el resultado de su golpe en La Reserva de Sotogrande 4 y el 5. Dos birdies del español en el 17 y el 18 le permitieron terminar la primera vuelta 6up, un resultado muy difícil de remontar en la segunda. Goger trató de mantener viva la llama de la esperanza en los primeros hoyos de la tarde, y lo consiguió menguando la ventaja de su rival hasta dejarla en 2up a falta de siete hoyos, pero ahí se detuvo el conato de remontada. Berná se abonó al par y vio cómo su rival se rendía ante un jugador que ofrecía un rendimiento espectacular en el magnífico campo de La Reserva.

Un vicecapitán de la Ryder Cup es socio del RCG Las Brisas El capitán del equipo europeo de la próxima Ryder Cup (en septiembre en Gleneagles, Escocia), Paul McGuinley, dice haber escogido a los vicecapitanes Des Smyth y Sam Torrance por su “habilidad, pasión y juicio”. Des Smyth, irlandés de 61 años, ya fue vicecapitán del equipo europeo liderado por Ian Woosnan en la edición de la Ryder Cup de 2006 celebrada en el K Club (Irlanda). Smyth, jugador activo en el European Seniors Tour y el Champions Tour, es socio del Real Club de Golf Las Brisas en Marbella. Son práctica habitual las reformas en los campos de golf, y su principal motivo es el deterioro de sus instalaciones. Luego existen un segundo y hasta un tercer motivo, que sería mejorar diseño y como último mejorar la calidad. Aquí en Los Arqueros Golf, motivados por un afán de continua mejora, han sido los tres motivos los que simultáneamente nos han impulsado a llevar a cabo trabajos de mejora en los últimos diez años, y con una mayor intensidad en los últimos cuatro. Ha sido como un especie de instinto de supervivencia natural lo que nos ha dominado en estos años, reinvirtiendo todos nuestros remanentes de recursos económicos, e incluso gastando lo que no teníamos, en esta obsesión de mejorar y mejorar el recorrido de nuestro campo de golf, cuyo listado de mejoras es interminable. Y así un bonito día, sin darnos cuenta, de repente hemos subido de categoría. El pasado año subimos los precios de nuestros green fees con el objetivo de frenar el tráfico de jugadores al campo para crear más calidad de juego. No funcionó. Siguen viniendo todavía más jugadores. Y mi lectura de esto es esa subida de categoría: ya no somos el de antes, sino un campo superior ubicado en el Beverly Hills marbellí. Además, diseñado por Severiano Ballesteros. Mi héroe. Seve, lo hemos conseguido. Hemos subido a Primera. Gracias.

Then there is a second, and sometimes third, reason – that is, to improve the design and, finally, to improve the quality. At Los Arqueros, motivated by a desire for ongoing improvements, these have been the three reasons that have simultaneously prompted us to undertaken improvement work over the past 10 years, and more intensely in the last four years. It’s been like a kind of natural instinct for survival that has dominated our actions during these years, reinvesting all that has been left over from our economic resources, and even spending what we haven’t had, as part of this obsession to improve our golf course layout – and the list of improvements is endless. Then one lovely day, without realising it, suddenly we had risen to a higher category. Last year we increased our green fees with the objective of easing golfing traffic in order to create a higher quality of play. It didn’t work. More players are still coming here. And I read that as meaning we have moved up in category: we’re not like before, but rather a better course, located in Marbella’s Beverly Hills. In addition, designed by Severiano Ballesteros, my hero. Seve, we’ve done it. We’re now in the First Division. Thank you.

PSICOLOGÍA DEPORTIVA La mente del golfista por Rocío Pomares En prácticamente todas las actividades que realizamos, hay una parte que es de trabajo mental, mucho más en los deportes. En el caso del Golf, si lo analizamos, un swing puede durar unos cinco segundos. De las cuatro horas aproximadas que dura una partida, lo que es la parte puramente física, no son más de cinco o diez minutos (dependiendo del número de golpes de cada jugador), lo que correspondería más o menos a un 5% del total del tiempo de juego. En cambio, la mayoría de los jugadores, dedican prácticamente el 100% a entrenar la parte física y se olvidan de la parte mental; y es que no hay que olvidar que “Somos Personas que Jugamos al Golf y No Golfistas Que Jugamos a Ser Personas”. Nuestro estado, y lo quienes somos, va a influir inevitablemente en nuestro juego, y esto hace fundamental aprender a gestionar nuestras emociones. La buena noticia es que mejorar esto, no sólo nos ayudará en nuestro juego, sino también en el día a día. El pasado 17 de diciembre de 2013 organicé una conferencia en Hotel reserva del Higuerón, y no se me ocurrió nadie mejor que Miguel Ángel Jiménez para hablar sobre la mentalidad en el golf. Miguel Ángel parte de una premisa “El Mejor es el que Más se Divierte”, y no hay duda que el predica con el ejemplo. Pero, ¿cómo podemos divertirnos cuando estamos jugando mal? Todo depende de cómo pensemos. Muchos jugadores se van cargando de negatividad cuando están jugando mal, por más que lo intentan no le salen los buenos golpes, y eso impide que disfruten todo lo que les gustaría. Los pensamientos negativos son frecuentes golpe a golpe y cada vez parece más difícil salir de esa situación, pero hacerlo es posible. La clave no es intentar pensar positivo, ir de lo negativo lo a positivo es una tarea harto difícil si no imposible. Como dijo Miguel Ángel, la clave de su buen juego es “aprender a pensar lo menos posible, olvidarse del resultado y pasarlo bien”. Afirmó que “cuando estás negativo, tienes que intentar pensar en cosas que no tengan nada que ver con golf para no pensar en lo malo, y para ello es muy útil utilizar mucho la respiración”. La respiración a la hora de gestionar las emociones es fundamental, hay muchas técnicas de relajación por Internet muy útiles. Lo mejor es utilizar las más sencillas. Es muy importante practicarlas antes de ponerlas a prueba en competición, ya que la mente funciona por asociación, y al principio, es fundamental que lo entrenemos en el momento más relajado del día, para que nos funcione cuando estemos en competición o en situación de estrés. Además, Miguel Ángel también comentó que, “mientras camino de un golpe a otro, me concentro en la sensación que tengo en los dedos del pie al pisar con el zapato, observo las hojas de los árboles o me concentro en mi respiración”. Esta técnica que se ha aprendido Miguel “a base de experiencia y de palos” como dijo, es muy útil y llena de sentido, ya que no tenemos capacidad para pensar en dos cosas al mismo tiempo, así que para evitar pensar en negativo, es fundamental introducir cualquier pensamiento neutro, que nos ayude a no tener que hacer un esfuerzo mental grande y evitar sobresaturarnos. Lo más importante es saber que todas las técnicas mentales, al igual que el swing, hay que entrenarlas antes de utilizarlas en competición. Golf Torrequebrada revamps its website As part of its ongoing commitment to excellence, Torrequebrada Golf Club has – over the past few months – undertaken major works to improve and renovate both the clubhouse and the golf course, in order to prepare for the new high season that began recently. The club has also launched a new website that is much more dynamic and attractive, and which enables users to make online reservations in a much easier and quicker way, as it can be done by a direct link to the club’s own bookings engine, without having to pass through any other system. Club manager Francisco Ruiz says he is extremely satisfied with the results achieved and believes the new website will be very useful and beneficial, both for the club and for golfers who want to play at the course, which was designed by Pepe Gancedo, the great Málaga architect commonly known as the “Picasso of golf”.
Torrequebrada, nueva web El Club de Golf Torrequebrada, en su afán constante de lograr la excelencia, ha realizado durante los últimos meses importantes trabajos de mejora y renovación tanto en la casa club como en el campo para afrontar esta nueva temporada alta de golf que ha comenzado recientemente. Estrena también una nueva página web, que es mucho más dinámica y atractiva, que permite hacer las reservas on line con mayor facilidad y agilidad, ya que enlaza directamente con el motor de reservas del propio campo, sin tener que pasar por ningún otro. Francisco Ruiz, director del club, se muestra muy satisfecho del resultado logrado y cree que esta nueva web va a ser muy útil y beneficiosa, tanto para el campo como para los aficionados que deseen jugar en este recorrido que diseñara Pepe Gancedo, el gran arquitecto de golf malagueño, conocido como el Picasso del golf.
