EL PARAISO GOLF CLUB 50TH ANNIVERSARY
El Paraiso Golf Club, located on the Costa del Sol, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023. As one of the oldest golf courses on the coast, it has played host to countless golfers from around the world.
Designed by Gary Player, El Paraiso was the first golf course to be created by the South African legend in Europe.
Over the years, El Paraiso has undergone numerous renovations and upgrades. The course now boasts a unique layout featuring lush fairways flanked by palm trees and meandering streams that create an exciting challenge for golfers of all levels. The par 71 course is made up of two 9-hole loops, with a signature hole that incorporates fairway bunkers, a lake, and a two-tiered green.
El Paraiso is more than just a golf club; it’s a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for the sport. With just over 500 members, the club offers daily competitions for all handicap levels, ensuring that all members can integrate into the friendliest club on the coast. The social scene
is very active, with events such as quiz nights, away trips, and dinner dances held regularly for members and their partners.
The clubhouse restaurant, La Cabaña, offers a classic golf club experience, with a trophy cabinet, trophy boards, and golf memorabilia giving the sensation of an old clubhouse. The restaurant team takes pride in offering the highest quality of food and service, whether it is a barbecue, a reception with appetizers, a prize presentation with tapas, or a gala dinner. The dining area inside the clubhouse has a capacity of over 120 people, and the covered terrace and decking area can accommodate up to 160 guests.
As El Paraiso celebrates its 50th anniversary, it
is a time to reflect on the past and look to the future. Gary Player’s legacy lives on through this unique golf course, which has been a popular venue for visiting golfers for half a century. The club’s constant upgrades and renovations have kept it fresh and exciting, while its sense of community has remained strong.
El Paraiso Golf Club is more than just a golf course; it’s a place where members and visitors can connect, socialize, and enjoy all that the Costa del Sol has to offer. As we look to the next 50 years, we can only imagine what the future holds for this special place.

Producing over 203.58kWp across all sites, La Cala’s new solar power panels will produce over 50% of the energy to the popular clubhouse area. With further solar panels planned for this year, the future of energy at La Cala looks greener than ever.
After successfully completing improvements to the outdoor terrace area of the iconic La Cala clubhouse, the 4-star golf resort has also made changes to the indoor seated area of The Clubhouse Bar & Restaurant. This latest indoor renovation will provide a refreshed, modern and more spacious feel, complete with large sliding doors, improved seating and stylish furniture. Combined with a new and improved clubhouse menu, these latest renovations will offer something for all La Cala guests and residents.
These are not the only planned changes to La Cala, with some upgrades to the hotel area and resort currently in the planning. On top of the recent improvements completed for more peace and privacy at the hotel, there are also plans to freshen up the reception area, along with the introduction of three new paddle courts available for all to use.
Located next to the 9th hole of the famous America course at La Cala, leading property developer Taylor Wimpey Spain has invested a further €16 million in the first phase of a new project, ‘Solana Village’. Hosting a variety of two and three bedroom apartments,
penthouses and duplexes, Solana Village will provide its residents with impressive panoramic views of the golf courses, distant Mediterranean and spectacular Spanish countryside.

THE 2023 SOLHEIM CUP JOINS THE “COSTA DEL SOL ZERO FOOTPRINT” PROJECT
The 2023 Solheim Cup, the women’s golf tournament that will pit Europe against the United States from 18th to 24th September at Finca Cortesin in Málaga, has taken another step forward in its intention to become the most environmentally friendly event possible. That´s the reason why, as it could not be otherwise as it will be played in the heart of the Costa del Sol, the 2023 Solheim Cup has joined the “Costa del Sol Zero Footprint” Project. With this initiative, the Costa del Sol has become the first destination in the world to calculate the carbon footprint of any tourist arriving in the area, regardless of the type of trip, and offset it.
Considering this, tourists who decide to visit the Costa del Sol will only have to access the website https://www.visitacostadelsol. com/planifica/informacion-turistica/huellade-carbono, enter the details of their trip (number of people who will assist, country and city of origin, type of transport chosen, number of nights of stay, kilometres to be covered and the transport that will be used). Once they give that information, they will obtain the result of their carbon footprint in
kg of CO2, its equivalence in number of trees planted in the Mediterranean area and the option to compensate for it.
This compensation of the CO2 emitted will be carried out in practice by planting trees in the province of Malaga, collaborating with another project of the Provincial Council such as “Málaga Viva”, with which more than 340,000 trees have already been planted in the province and land banks are being created to reforest and compensate for the carbon footprint.
Every tourist who offsets their emissions by planting trees in the province through the Costa del Sol Tourism tool will receive a personalised certificate with a QR code and a link to the forest they have helped to reforest, as well as information about the forest, with details of where their tree has been planted. Likewise, this “Costa del Sol Zero Footprint” project has two phases consisting of dissemination / awareness, where Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol assumes the cost and gives the plantation to tourists who have taken the initiative to offset their environmental impact. It also has a second
phase of consolidation, in which users of the calculator can directly offset their carbon footprint in various environmental projects developed in the province of Malaga.
Costa del Sol is, once again, a pioneer and becomes a benchmark with a project that “Turismo Costa del Sol” has been working on for long time and which is another example of the clear commitment that both the Malaga Provincial Council and Turismo Costa del Sol are making to the sustainability of the destination,” said Francisco Salado, president of both institutions.
“Sustainability is perhaps one of the most important indicators of quality, prestige and image of a destination. Costa del Sol must and will compete in that league, because we are convinced that sustainable tourism development must be at the heart of the Costa del Sol’s growth strategy”, he concluded.

As well as carrying out redesign work to enhance the layout, including the repositioning of the 18th tee, other upgrades on the course will include levelling the 1st and 11th fairways to improve the playability of the course; cleaning and refurbishing the lakes and bridges on the eighth and ninth holes; and repairing and resurfacing all the buggy paths. In addition, La Hacienda will unveil a new state-of-the-art website and a variety of updated stay-and-play packages in the coming months, while players can look forward to an improved golf experience on the Links course later this year with the opening of a new halfway house.

“These are exciting times for La Hacienda and we’re looking forward to introducing a series of further improvements to the experience we offer to our guests in the coming months as we continue to build towards the opening of our Fairmont hotel in 2024.”
Located in the Cadiz municipality of San Roque close to Sotogrande, La Hacienda
Links Golf Resort enjoyed a memorable 2022 which saw the resort establish itself as one of the rising stars of European golf –with the transformation of the Links course at the forefront of its multi-million-euro redevelopment plans.

Away from the fairways, La Hacienda’s series of upgrades included a new contemporary clubhouse; a new driving range and an upgraded practice area; and a new beach bar and restaurant ‘Sal Verde’. In addition, the resort highlighted its ambition to become one of the most exclusive and luxurious golf developments in Spain by signing a deal with Fairmont Hotel & Residences.

Links Golf Course
The NEW Links Course, is our signature course, being the only links course in the region. It is an 18 hole, Par 72 course and inaugurated in 1992. In 2021 new ownership had a vision to transform Alcaidesa into a high end destination and left this unique project in the hands of Kurtis Bowman who is responsible for designing a few of the legendary Jack Nicklaus golf signature courses. The orography of the land is formed
by gentle slopes descending towards the sea, finishing on a beautiful beach, creating a front of nearly 2 km. This allows for the majority of the holes to run alongside the beach. The difficulty of the course lies mainly in the condition of the prevailing winds in the area. One of the special features of the course which most impresses visitors is its spectacular views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar’s rock and Africa. The total distance is 5,931m.

THE SAN ROQUE CLUB
Formerly the summer residence of the Domecq sherry family, The San Roque Club sits on an enviable backdrop surrounded by lush hills & historic Cork Oak woods. Host of the 1997 Ryder Cup Gala and accommodation of both teams.
Venue for the Spanish Open 2005 and 2006 as well as the European Tour Qualifying School Finals from 1993 to 2007, The San Roque Club holds a place in the heart of many a Tour professional.
Opened in 1991, and designed by the legendary Dave Thomas, the Old Course is rarely outside the top 5 courses in Spain. The first 9 holes wind through Cork Oaks whilst the back 9 are dominated by water hazards. The 18th hole can either make or break your game, adding a spectacular finish to some of the most beautiful 18 holes you will ever play.
Designed by Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros, the New Course opened in 2003. Since then it has blossomed into a mature and well respected course which can hold court with the best in the area. Celebrating its first European Tour tournament after only 3 years - the Spanish Open 2006 - the course
has already won a multitude of fans the world over. The design depicts a links course in many holes, with many unique Dye features. It is a challenge for low handicap golfers, but with five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course, it is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. Nevertheless, the course is designed to reward canny tactics & skilful drive placement. Water hazards guard 4 of the greens, also defended by more than 140 bunkers.
The San Roque Club is almost unmatched for scenery & elegance. Membership is about exclusivity and the sense of belonging to a family of privileged golfers benefitting from the unique experience the club has to offer. The natural beauty of the area, historic clubhouse, two championship 18 hole courses, and equestrian centre, make it one of Spain’s top clubs.

ALMENARA GOLF
The Almenara Sotogrande Golf Club is located next to Los Alcornocales natural park, between the Valderrama and San Roque Club courses and 5 minutes away from La Reserva Club, in a luxurious residential area overseeing the Mediterranean Sea and only 40 minutes by car from Marbella. Besides, there are three international airports in the region: Gibraltar (20 minutes away), Málaga (an hour away) and Jerez (an hour away).
Almenara Sotogrande Golf Club has a 27hole course, created by the famous British designer Dave Thomas. It has 3 circuits with 9 holes each and is located right next to Los Alcornocales natural park, where they blend in with the natural surroundings. The water is protagonist in its design, thanks to two great lakes surrounded by cork oaks and olive trees, which transmit an unparalleled feeling of serenity.
The course, overseeing the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding hills, represents a real challenge for golfers of all skill levels, due to its deep bunkers, water hazards, rolling hills, and serpentine streets. Besides, with over 300 sunny days every year, it is the ideal place for golfing.
Los Lagos
This 9 hole course runs around two lakes, with wide fairways between pine trees.
Los Alcornoques
As its name suggests, this 9 hole course runs between cork oaks with wide, undulating fairways, next to a large lake wich will accompany you on holes 6, 7 and 8.
Los Pinos
A 9 hole through pine trees, with narrower fairways than Los Lagos and Los Alcornoques, wich will push you to hit your best shots, finishing on a challenging par three.

LA RESERVA CLUB Estepona Guadiaro Valderrama Sotogrande Golf Almenara NHSotogrande LaReservaREAL CLUB VALDERRAMA
Real Club Valderrama is located in Sotogrande, Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately one hour’s drive from Malaga International Airport.Valderrama is a private Members’ club with a limited number of starting times offered for visitors. The climate is ideal for year-round golf.
Valderrama has been consistently ranked as number 1 in Continental Europe since the late 80’s and has been included in the Top 100 in the World since 1999. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 meters from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot.
The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Las Aves (Sotogrande New). In 1984, Mr. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to an extraordinary level, never seen before in Europe. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout
of ten years earlier. Together the two men spent many hours walking around the course and discussing where and how improvements should be made.
The course was renamed Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated. The pair shared a common aim: to create a course that would present a test of golf to the everyday golfer and the first-class player alike, and would bring out the best golf that is in him. Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989.
No championship course in modern times has so swiftly achieved such recognition. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 2009. In 1997 the Club
hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain. The tone for the Ryder Cup event was set by Severiano Ballesteros, the Europe captain, when he walked the course with John Paramor, the chief tournament director.
“I found everything perfect” he said. “It’s impossible to imagine a golf course in better condition”
Next, in 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. Since 2010, Valderrama is home of the Andalucia Masters, one of the European Tour’s most prestigious tournaments.

DOÑA JULIA GOLF CLUB
Dona Julia is a new 18 hole, par 71 layout designed by the famous designer Antonio Garcia Garrido. It is set within a huge new development by Casares in the West of the Costa del Sol.
The front seven holes go up into the hills with fantastic views of the sea (particularly from the highest part of the course on the 8th tee). Then the back 11 proceed to come down the hill giving a different perspective entirely from the front 7 holes.
What you notice about Dona Julia is the overall quality of the course, everything is just how it should be and the fairways are spotless.
The greens likewise and they are huge. In all an excellent course for the money and sure to be a firm favourite because although it is tough it is also fair so should suit all levels of golfer. After your game, wander into the Clubhouse bar to relax and enjoy drinks and food on the sunny terrace.
Toughest hole: 10th. Par 4, 405 metres. Stroke index 1 hole and rightly so. Tee off over a valley to a small fairway that runs from left to right in front of you. If you do mange to find the fairway, you have a long second to the large green with water to the right, slicers beware!

The immaculate contoured greens are generous in size but the fairways are slender on the first half of the course, where more precision is needed than on the second half. The strategically placed bunkers contain white marble chips; most fairways are sown with Bermuda whilst the greens and tees have been sown with Penncross.
Flamingos Golf had the honour and privilege to host many prestigious golf tournaments over the years, including the 2002, 2003 and 2004 European Seniors Tour Final and the Women’s Spanish Open in 2010.

EL PARAISO GOLF CLUB
Designed by Gary Player, El Paraiso was opened in 1973 and is one of the oldest established courses on the coast. For more than forty years it has been a mecca of golf, whether you are a low handicap or just wanting to enjoy a round of golf on your holiday, the course offers golfers of all ages and abilities an exciting challenge.
The setting is incomparable - lush fairways are punctuated by meandering streams, flanked by palm trees and an abundance of exotic fauna, including oleander, jacaranda and mimosas. Lakes provide a home for waterbirds and the golf balls of the unwary! Without doubt El Paraiso Golf Club is a well designed course that golfers will never tire of playing and will look forward to returning for another chance to conquer!
With many good golf holes to choose from, without doubt the 6th, a dogleg left par 5, must be the best hole on the course. The drive has to be accurate to avoid two well positioned bunkers, left and right, and your second shot must favour the left centre of the fairway to miss the lake that catches any wayward ball. Finally, your approach has again to be accurate, to a two tiered green, to give you any chance of that elusive birdie.

ATALAYA GOLF
Created in 1968, Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, the 1925 German Golf Champion who became his country’s finest golf course architect of the time. With wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers of all levels.
Elegant and mature with spectacular views of the magnificent La Concha mountain, it is the perfect oasis of tranquillity. Its apparently benign parkland aspect with gently sloping fairways makes it an ideal course for the average club golfer - but plentiful bunkers filled with sparkling ‘marmolina’ sand, fast greens, lush vegetation and fairways lined with
olive, pine, cactus and eucalyptus trees prove a challenge for single-figure players as well. Atalaya New Course offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Gibraltar and is seen as one of the most natural courses on the coast. Created in 1990 by Paul Krings, the New Course is set further inland, but has a similar parkland feel about it - with gently undulating fairways and large, fast greens. Atalaya also offers splendid practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, six short game areas and three putting greens.

LA QUINTA GOLF Marbella A-7 (N-340) Estepona Malaga La Quinta AP-7 Motorway Estepona Nueva Andalucía San Pedro Ronda Ronda Road Los ArquerosREAL CLUB DE GOLF LAS BRISAS
The Real Club of Golf Las Brisas was founded by D. Jose Banus in 1968 with the name of “Golf Club Nueva Andalucía”; He would be his first President until 1981.
For his design he chose the American Robert Trent Jones, considered already then like one of the best designers of the world of golf courses. He had just built the Sotogrande field, and later Las Brisas would also design Los Naranjos and Valderrama. The tour of this Marbella club presents multiple water obstacles: there are ten artificial lakes fed by two streams. The greens, mostly elevated, are heavily protected by bunkers. The result of the work of Robert Trent Jones, which we continue to enjoy today, was truly remarkable and original, achieving a difficult and attractive course. It was also original in the lawn used: “Bermuda” on the fairways and “Pencross Bentgrass” on greens, unusual species in Europe in the sixties; The consequence of all this is a course that requires playing a precision golf. As opinion of great golf players we can reflect the one of Paul Azinger (USA):
“Las Brisas does not have a bad hole. In fact it’s one of the best courses I’ve ever played.” The original design, the Englishman Gerald Huggan was commissioned by D. José Banús to design the landscaping and the course’s arboretum. Gerald Huggan, a great specialist in subtropical plants, had just returned from Kenya where he had designed the Nairobi gardens. Here at Las Brisas we can enjoy his work and imagination, in a place where there are trees representing all the continents of the world: species from Africa like the Cape Chestnut and the Spiny Acacias; the Indian Laurel and the Mysore Ficus from Asia; Chorisia Speciosa from America; the Green Ash from Mexico; and the Blackwood and the Whistling Pine from Australia, together with numerous species of palms and Mediterranean trees which coexist in great harmony, turning our course into a veritable botanic garden.
During the following ten years our Club was open to the public, serving the needs of tourism in the area and playing host to numerous guests, with 44,000 players visiting the course in 1975. In 1981 the Banús Group sold the course to the businessmen Herman Sauer and Juan Romero who decided to transform the Club into a private Club; to do so, they formed the company Sociedad Campogolf, S.A., which holds the Clubs assets, and 1,320 shares were issued. The Club’s facilities and the golf course were improved. In 1983 the Spanish Open was again held at the Club, leading to a resounding sporting success. The Irishman, Eamon D’Arcy, won the Open with the Spaniard, Manuel Piñero, coming second. Both he and José María Cañizares managed to equal the course record. In 1983, and after a period of consolidation as a private Club, Herman Sauer resigned from the Chair, with elections being called at which D. Antonio Fortuny was voted in as Chairman. During the following years,
especially in 1985 and 1991, our Club became the focus of some of the most prestigious national and international competitions like Their Majesties the King and Queens’ International Cup, the Spanish Open, the Nations’ Cup and the World Cup. The Spanish Open held in 1987 was won brilliantly by Nick Faldo, followed by Severiano Ballesteros, only two strokes behind, with the latter beating the course record with 64 strokes in the Pro-Am played the day before the competition. Kyle Phillips renovated its design in 2015, through the remodelling of the course, this delightful walking venue has been redesigned to respect and improve on the best aspects of the original design, as well as modified to create a new course which will not only continue to bring pleasure to the members, but once again challenge the professional player. Upon the realization of the new practice facility improvements, Las Brisas will be able to offer its members a complete toplevel golf experience.

LA CALA CAMPO AMERICA
Sweeping elevation changes, endless panoramas and dramatic table-top greens - the America Course offers challenge and reward in equal measure. Wider fairways make the course less demanding off the tee and the opening hole – a downhill, risk-reward par 5 - is a taste of what’s to come.
With five par 3s and four more par 5s, the America Course will offer a score if you can keep the ball in play. Just steer clear of the pristine crushed-marble bunkers and scrubland that frames every hole on La Cala’s second oldest course. The approach into the last is as memorable a finish as it gets - the perfect end to an unforgettable round of golf.

Expect drama and adventure at every turn as the Europa Course meanders through the valley of the River Ojén. The third of Cabell B Robinson’s three courses at La Cala has captured the imagination of golfers since its opening in 2005, maturing seamlessly into the spectacular surroundings of the Sierra de Mijas. Wider fairways and larger greens makes this an enjoyable test for all, but bring your A-game on the toughest holes. Dissected by the Ojén, the fourth might just be the most demanding par four in Andalucía. And at 233 metres, the 14th is the longest par 3 in the region. SANTANA GOLF
Santana Golf is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 of approximately. 6207 meters in length, set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland.
The course, sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson, is set in a former avocado plantation which provided a natural solution to many problems. The final result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design. Each hole has two championship tees and two tees for general play for both men and ladies - wide and well manicured putting greens surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, filled with sand produced from crushed marble. Buggy paths are provided throughout the course, beautifully integrated between the rows of fruit trees.
In spite of its previous use, the Avocado Tree or Persea Índica - as it is known by its original name - is not the only tree present here, as many other endemic species like eucalyptus, orange and lemon trees, cactus, pines, fig trees, olive and mango trees make up the varied vegetation of this beautiful enclave, together with a varied population of indigenous birds, with amongst others the calzada eagle. The cork oaks along the 5th hole deserve special mention, as they have been present here for more than 500 years.

LAURO GOLF RESORT
Lauro Golf Resort can be found in the middle of beautiful pure nature in spectacular surroundings. The course consists of 27 holes that can be played in three different combinations, all par 72.
From the outset, the design and function of the course was based on respecting nature and the environment that surrounds it by not only saving and caring for the already existing trees but also by planting thousands of new trees, most of them indigenous Andalusian species.
In Lauro Golf nature is everywhere. Within the whole complex the direct contact with nature is constant. Whether you are playing golf, living in the residences or just enjoying a stroll in the surroundings you can see that we are not the only visitors at Lauro Golf. You can often see rabbits, ducks, partridges, herons and even eagles on and around the golf course, our friendly neighbours who are enjoying the micro-climate of the golf course created by the thousands of trees and several lakes.
The course was designed by the late Folco Nardi and the idea was to create a course that was technically challenging yet not too difficult. With a good concentration and the correct selection of the clubs the player can end up with a good score in one of the 50 competitions played every year at Lauro Golf. The extension of the course with the holes 1927 designed by Mariano Benitez follows the same lines and equally requires concentration and skills. The course is moderately flat and can be played by foot though there are two holes located on the side of the mountain and from which we can enjoy some spectacular views over the valley of Guadalhorce and the Mediterranean.
The club house is located in an old Andalusian building, Cortijo el Paredón, where you can find the restaurant, changing and locker rooms, pro shop and the Caddy Master´s Office. On our premises and the surroundings you can also find a swimming pool, a padel tennis club, lawn bowls club and an equestrian centre. In the middle of the cortijo there is a fabulous patio, with an enormous ficus tree in the middle which offers shade to the players enjoying their food and drinks after a game of golf.

BAVIERA GOLF
Baviera Golf has been designed by José María Cañizares, the prestigious professional golfer. Cañizares is one of our most international and charismatic golfers in whose record are 5 tournaments of the European circuit and 2 world championships as well as several participations in the Ryder Cup.
Baviera Golf is an even course characterized by its wide greens with many movements and the great variety of obstacles which offer a big range of strokes and an ideal design for all types of handicap.
The variety of holes and the unsurpassable views both to the Mediterranean sea and the mountains contribute to make you enjoy and
share an unforgettable day. If you want to get rid of some old balls then keep them for the 3rd hole, you might loose a few here. If you get a par then it might be a good idea to frame the score card for posterity. When you play the 7th hole it would be advisable to avoid the cactus garden on the left, not the kind of hazard one might find at home. For the 14th it might be better if you pack some binoculars in your bag, it’s huge, and if you are really unlucky you might get wet.
