La Hacienda Links Golf Resort’s transformation into one of Europe’s premier 36-hole golf venues has earned instant global recognition after receiving two leading golf travel industry accolades.
The acclaimed venue in southern Spain was one of only 60 companies and organisations to receive this year’s Outstanding Service Award from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), while the resort’s redesigned Links Course was the highest climber in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World website’s updated list of the Top 100 Courses in Spain, moving up 42 places. The honours follow a busy 2022 for La Hacienda which included the relaunch of the Links course after a major renovation by acclaimed architect Kurtis Bowman, the opening of a new clubhouse and restaurant and the announcement of a new Fairmont hotel to open in 2024.
More than 670 IAGTO member golf tour operators were invited to vote in the 2023 IAGTO Outstanding Service Awards for golf tourism industry suppliers who delivered the best experience and service for their golf travelling clients. Tourist boards were also nominated for their support of the golf tourism industry, with the top 60 companies
and organisations receiving the honour. Meanwhile, the Links Course rose a massive 42 places in the latest Top 100 Golf Courses in the World list of Spain’s best courses, calling the layout “reborn” after the recent work.

Located in the Cadiz municipality of San Roque close to Sotogrande, La Hacienda Links Golf Resort multi-million redevelopment has seen the resort establish itself as one of the rising stars of European golf.
As well as the transformation of the Links course, the resort’s other 18-hole course –the Heathland – is also set to benefit from a period of investment over the coming months to enhance the layout and golfing experience. Away from the fairways, La Hacienda’s
series of upgrades have included a new contemporary clubhouse; a new driving range and an upgraded practice area; and a new beach bar and restaurant ‘Sal Verde’.

After successfully completing improvements to the outdoor terrace area of the iconic La Cala clubhouse, the 4-star golf resort has also made changes to the indoor seated area of The Clubhouse Bar & Restaurant. This latest indoor renovation will provide a refreshed, modern and more spacious feel, complete with large sliding doors, improved seating and stylish furniture. Combined with a new and improved clubhouse menu, these latest renovations will offer something for all La Cala guests and residents.
These are not the only planned changes to La Cala, with some upgrades to the hotel area and resort currently in the planning. On top of the recent improvements completed for more peace and privacy at the hotel, there are also plans to freshen up the reception area, along with the introduction of three new paddle courts available for all to use. The Resort is also upgrading the offering at its Bodega Restaurant with new, exciting dishes crafted from our Andalusian roots.

The new Links Course, is our signature course, being the only links course in the region. Declared “Spain’s Best Golf Course” in the 2023 World Golf Awards, it is an 18 hole, Par 72 course and inaugurated in 1992. In 2021 new ownership had a vision to transform Alcaidesa into a high end destination and left this unique project in the hands of Kurtis Bowman who is responsible for designing a few of the legendary Jack Nicklaus golf signature courses. The orography of the land is formed by gentle slopes descending towards the sea, finishing on a beautiful beach, creating a front of nearly 2 km. This allows for the majority of the holes to run alongside the
beach. The difficulty of the course lies mainly in the condition of the prevailing winds in the area. One of the special features of the course which most impresses visitors is its spectacular views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar’s rock and Africa. The total distance is 5,931m.

Heathland Golf Course
The second golf course of this resort, the Heathland Course, consists of 18 holes par 72, designed by the renowned former Ryder Cup player and author of numerous internationally renowned layouts, Dave Thomas. This course offers a variety of natural scenery ranging from the plateau area (holes 1 to 5, 17 and 18) where the course is similar to a heathland, with wide fairways and outstanding views of the Mediterranean, to the valley area, where the holes meander along the valley and incorporate several water hazards.
Winner of the ‘Players’ Choice Award’ and the ‘Best Hospitality in Spain’ honours at the 2022 Golfhaftet Awards - the Heathland course is
set to benefit from a period of investment this winter and spring.
As well as carrying out redesign work to enhance the layout, including the repositioning of the 18th tee, other upgrades on the course will include levelling the 1st and 11th fairways to improve the playability of the course; cleaning and refurbishing the lakes and bridges on the eighth and ninth holes; and repairing and resurfacing all the buggy paths.

Formerly the summer residence of the Domecq sherry family, The San Roque Club sits on an enviable backdrop surrounded by lush hills & historic Cork Oak woods. Host of the 1997 Ryder Cup Gala and accommodation of both teams.
Venue for the Spanish Open 2005 and 2006 as well as the European Tour Qualifying School Finals from 1993 to 2007, The San Roque Club holds a place in the heart of many a Tour professional.
Opened in 1991, and designed by the legendary Dave Thomas, the Old Course is rarely outside the top 5 courses in Spain. The first 9 holes wind through Cork Oaks whilst the back 9 are dominated by water hazards. The 18th hole can either make or break your game, adding a spectacular finish to some of the most beautiful 18 holes you will ever play. Designed by Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros, the New Course opened in 2003. Since then it has blossomed into a mature and well respected course which can hold court with the best in the area. Celebrating its first European Tour tournament after only 3 years - the Spanish Open 2006 - the course
has already won a multitude of fans the world over. The design depicts a links course in many holes, with many unique Dye features. It is a challenge for low handicap golfers, but with five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course, it is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. Nevertheless, the course is designed to reward canny tactics & skilful drive placement. Water hazards guard 4 of the greens, also defended by more than 140 bunkers.
The San Roque Club is almost unmatched for scenery & elegance. Old Course
The legendary Old Course at The San Roque Club is steeped in history, hosting 15 consecutive European Tour Schools from 1993-2007 and the Spanish Open in 2005. Some of the greats of the game ignited their careers here and have gone on to win major championships.

The recently renovated Almenara Golf is located within 5* SO/ Sotogrande Hotel, alongside the Los Alcornocales natural park, just five minutes from both Real Club Valderrama and La Reserva Club, in a luxurious residential area overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It is just 40 minutes from Marbella by car, and there are three international airports in close proximity: Gibraltar (20 minutes away), Malaga (60 minutes away) and Jerez (90 minutes away).
Almenara Golf, Sotogrande® has 27 holes created by the famous British designer, Dave Thomas. This is split into three nine-hole loops that have recently been remodelled by legendary local golfer, Manuel Piñero. The water is a protagonist in its design, thanks to two great lakes surrounded by cork oaks and olive trees – delivering an authentic Andalucian golf experience.
The three layouts, with views down to the Mediterranean and over the surrounding hills, represent a real challenge for golfers of all skill levels, with deep bunkers, water hazards, rolling hills, and winding fairways. Los Lagos
This picturesque 9-hole course runs between two lakes, with wide fairways nestled among pine trees.
Los Alcornoques
This 9-hole course flows among cork trees, with wide and winding fairways, next to a large lake that comes into play on holes 6, 7 and 8.
Los Pinos
9-hole course surrounded by pine trees, with narrower fairways than Lagos and Alcornoques, and a requirement on creative shot making. Its finishing hole is a challenging uphill par-3.

La Reserva Club sits atop one of Sotogrande’s highest peaks, with sweeping views down over the Mediterranean. The course was opened in 2003, and since its inception has played host to a number of world renowned golf tournaments, most notably the Ladies European Tour’s recent Aramco Team Series. The newest championship course in Sotogrande®, this 18-hole layout measures over 7,400 yards off the back tees and was designed by famous American architect and golf course designer Cabell B. Robinson.
Carved into the hillside, the views are either expansive, overlooking Sotogrande® and its shoreline, or upward onto the trees of the Gran Reserva, Sotogrande’s highest point. With generous fairways, golfers are able to open their shoulders from the tees and take aim. With an abundance of water features,

Real Club Valderrama is located in Sotogrande, Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. Valderrama has been consistently ranked as number 1 in Continental Europe since the late 80’s and has been included in the Top 100 in the World since 1999. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 meters from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot.
The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Las Aves (Sotogrande New). In 1984, Mr. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to an extraordinary level, never seen before in Europe. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout
of ten years earlier. Together the two men spent many hours walking around the course and discussing where and how improvements should be made.
The course was renamed Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated. The pair shared a common aim: to create a course that would present a test of golf to the everyday golfer and the first-class player alike, and would bring out the best golf that is in him. Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989.
No championship course in modern times has so swiftly achieved such recognition. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 2009. In 1997 the Club hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted
golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain.
The tone for the Ryder Cup event was set by Severiano Ballesteros, the Europe captain, when he walked the course with John Paramor, the chief tournament director. “I found everything perfect” he said. “It’s impossible to imagine a golf course in better condition”
Next, in 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. In more recent times, Real Club Valderrama has been perpetuated through the hosting of eight iterations of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters, a tournament of considerable prestige within the domain of Spanish golf sanctioned by the European Tour. Furthermore, Valderrama proudly welcomed LIV Golf in June 2023, boasting some of the best players in the world.

Dona Julia is a new 18 hole, par 71 layout designed by the famous designer Antonio Garcia Garrido. It is set within a huge new development by Casares in the West of the Costa del Sol.
The front seven holes go up into the hills with fantastic views of the sea (particularly from the highest part of the course on the 8th tee).
Then the back 11 proceed to come down the hill giving a different perspective entirely from the front 7 holes.
What you notice about Dona Julia is the overall quality of the course, everything is just how it should be and the fairways are spotless.
The greens likewise and they are huge. In all an excellent course for the money and sure to be a firm favourite because although it is tough it is also fair so should suit all levels of golfer. After your game, wander into the Clubhouse bar to relax and enjoy drinks and food on the sunny terrace.
Toughest hole: 10th. Par 4, 405 metres. Stroke index 1 hole and rightly so. Tee off over a valley to a small fairway that runs from left to right in front of you. If you do mange to find the fairway, you have a long second to the large green with water to the right, slicers beware!

A beautiful downhill short par 4 with the green surrounded by water. The tee shot is very straight forward if you choose to play safe, however you may feel that at only 250 meters downhill and the wind behind that it is worth having a go with 3 wood or driver. A straight one will make an eagle/birdie very possiblebut just slightly out and you are looking at a 6. Decisions, decisions!

Azata Golf is a new 18 hole, Par 71, located in Estepona that has spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Bermeja. Designed by Sterling & Martin, it is not a long course. Flamingos Golf
This 18-hole, 71-par course measuring 5,714 metres was designed by the Spanish architect Antonio García Garrido, known for his meticulous landscaping. It has a great variety of trees and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
The immaculate contoured greens are generous in size but the fairways are slender on the first half of the course, where more precision is needed than on the second half. The strategically placed bunkers contain white marble chips; most fairways are sown with Bermuda whilst the greens and tees have been sown with Penncross.
Flamingos Golf had the honour and privilege to host many prestigious golf tournaments over the years, including the 2002, 2003 and 2004 European Seniors Tour Final and the Women’s Spanish Open in 2010.

Villa Padierna’s third course is a fast, accurate course, yet still entertaining and requiring skill. This is a great chance to improve your short game avoiding long days on a traditional course. Not surprisingly, Tramores Golf holds strong appeal to novices, younger players and timestrapped golfers.

The Real Club of Golf Las Brisas was founded by D. Jose Banus in 1968 with the name of “Golf Club Nueva Andalucía”; He would be his first President until 1981.
For his design he chose the American Robert Trent Jones, considered already then like one of the best designers of the world of golf courses. He had just built the Sotogrande field, and later Las Brisas would also design Los Naranjos and Valderrama. The tour of this Marbella club presents multiple water obstacles: there are ten artificial lakes fed by two streams. The greens, mostly elevated, are heavily protected by bunkers. The result of the work of Robert Trent Jones, which we continue to enjoy today, was truly remarkable and original, achieving a difficult and attractive course. It was also original in the lawn used: “Bermuda” on the fairways and “Pencross Bentgrass” on greens, unusual species in Europe in the sixties; The consequence of all this is a course that requires playing a precision golf. As opinion of great golf players we can reflect the one of Paul Azinger (USA):
“Las Brisas does not have a bad hole. In fact it’s one of the best courses I’ve ever played.” The original design, the Englishman Gerald Huggan was commissioned by D. José Banús to design the landscaping and the course’s arboretum. Gerald Huggan, a great specialist in subtropical plants, had just returned from Kenya where he had designed the Nairobi gardens. Here at Las Brisas we can enjoy his work and imagination, in a place where there are trees representing all the continents of the world: species from Africa like the Cape Chestnut and the Spiny Acacias; the Indian Laurel and the Mysore Ficus from Asia; Chorisia Speciosa from America; the Green Ash from Mexico; and the Blackwood and the Whistling Pine from Australia, together with numerous species of palms and Mediterranean trees which coexist in great harmony, turning our course into a veritable botanic garden.
During the following ten years our Club was open to the public, serving the needs of tourism in the area and playing host to numerous guests, with 44,000 players visiting the course in 1975. In 1981 the Banús Group sold the course to the businessmen Herman Sauer and Juan Romero who decided to transform the Club into a private Club; to do so, they formed the company Sociedad Campogolf, S.A., which holds the Clubs assets, and 1,320 shares were issued. The Club’s facilities and the golf course were improved. In 1983 the Spanish Open was again held at the Club, leading to a resounding sporting success. The Irishman, Eamon D’Arcy, won the Open with the Spaniard, Manuel Piñero, coming second. Both he and José María Cañizares managed to equal the course record. In 1983, and after a period of consolidation as a private Club, Herman Sauer resigned from the Chair, with elections being called at which D. Antonio Fortuny was voted in as Chairman. During the following years,
especially in 1985 and 1991, our Club became the focus of some of the most prestigious national and international competitions like Their Majesties the King and Queens’ International Cup, the Spanish Open, the Nations’ Cup and the World Cup. The Spanish Open held in 1987 was won brilliantly by Nick Faldo, followed by Severiano Ballesteros, only two strokes behind, with the latter beating the course record with 64 strokes in the Pro-Am played the day before the competition. Kyle Phillips renovated its design in 2015, through the remodelling of the course, this delightful walking venue has been redesigned to respect and improve on the best aspects of the original design, as well as modified to create a new course which will not only continue to bring pleasure to the members, but once again challenge the professional player. Upon the realization of the new practice facility improvements, Las Brisas will be able to offer its members a complete toplevel golf experience.

Cabopino Golf Marbella is located on the border between Marbella and Mijas Costa, opposite the charming little Cabopino Port.
The Course was designed by Mr. Juan Ligués Creus, who´s layout presents spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding pine forest. The Course has three par 3´s, two par 5´s and the rest par 4´s. Amongst the many spectacular holes, the par 4, 3rd hole would be the one to mention.
The tee box perched on the side of the cliff presents you with a tee shot that has a drop of nearly 80 metres to the fairway, then you face an elevated green protected by a large bunker. Holes 13 and 15 are also attractive, with
streams and lakes. The tenth tee provides a magnificent view of the back nine and the Mediterranean Sea. Cabopino Golf allows all categories of handicap golfers to enjoy a day out. At the entrance to Cabopino Golf Marbella we find the excellent facilities of the Golf Academy and Driving Range. The Driving Range has a capacity for 30 players, with a depth of 200 metres and 160 metres wide, distance markers, bunkers and the natural layout amongst the pine forest make an interesting and challenging practice session. The Academy offers lessons for individual ladies and gentlemen, groups for children and corporate groups.

Santana Golf is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 of approximately. 6207 meters in length, set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland.
The course, sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson, is set in a former avocado plantation which provided a natural solution to many problems. The final result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design. Each hole has two championship tees and two tees for general play for both men and ladies - wide and well manicured putting greens surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, filled with sand produced from crushed marble. Buggy paths are provided throughout the course, beautifully integrated between the rows of fruit trees.
In spite of its previous use, the Avocado Tree or Persea Índica - as it is known by its original name - is not the only tree present here, as many other endemic species like eucalyptus, orange and lemon trees, cactus, pines, fig trees, olive and mango trees make up the varied vegetation of this beautiful enclave, together with a varied population of indigenous birds, with amongst others the calzada eagle. The cork oaks along the 5th hole deserve special mention, as they have been present here for more than 500 years.
