A Warm Welcome to The Irish Golf Guide Welcome to the latest issue of The Irish Golf Guide. This magazine has been designed to help the local and National golfer in selecting and finding the course they wish to play in Ireland. It gives each golf club the chance to showcase their course and facilities with superb photography and enough information to whet the appetite of any golfer or group of golfers who wish to visit. The Irish Golf Guide has been brought to you by Golf Guide Publications Ltd, who publish the North West & Cumbria, South Central and Yorkshire & North East Golf Guides in the UK, and the Costa del Sol Golf Guide in Spain. This quarterly magazine contains in depth reviews of Golf Clubs, Local and International News items, and special promotions. A select number of courses each issue have editorial’s describing the course, the facilities and signature holes and contain the directions to the course. These editorials are the chance for
each club to highlight itself and detail any offers and deals they have running during that period. The magazine is listed in alphabetical order, with the showcase courses being colour coded by the areas they are in. These areas are Leinster, Munster, Connaught and Ulster. The full golf course listing is also featured in the magazine containing the address, phone number, email and website of every golf course in Ireland. The Golf Guide is aimed at golfers of all levels from professionals, club players, beginners and societies. We hope that you will find this free publication an enjoyable read, and a must for choosing your golfing calendar of events in Ireland for 2012 and beyond. The next issue will be available from all golf clubs, and select golf shops, driving ranges and hotels from the middle of January 2013. Happy golfing from all at the Irish Golf Guide!

“…a tremendous layout and one of the best conditioned courses in the whole of Great Britain and Ireland.” Padraig Harrington, PGA Champion
The panelled walls of the Tetrarch Bar recall a glorious equestrian past. The relaxed decor of the Major’s Room and the Morning Room is enhanced by a wonderful collection of antiques, paintings and china sourced from the old estate and from auctions in Ireland, England, Spain and Italy. Mount Juliet House provides the ultimate in luxury accommodation in Co. Kilkenny. There are 32 bedrooms at Mount Juliet House, and many of the individually designed rooms enjoy captivating views over the River Nore and the paddocks of Ballylinch Stud. For the ultimate private party, this house is also available for exclusive use.
Their home set on a hill overlooking the River Nore evokes a feeling of old fashioned graciousness. Close to the house are the Rose Garden Lodges and the Club Rooms, the original hunting stables of the old estate and now the heart of Mount Juliets sporting and leisure activities. This part of Ireland has very strong Norman associations, particularly with the great Butler family, who have played a large part in the history of Mount Juliet. The estate as we know it today was originally two separate estates, Walton’s Grove and Ballylinch, each with its own separate history.
Best Parkland Golf Course in Ireland Mount Juliet Golf Course opened in 1991 with a match featuring golfing legends Christy O’Connor Snr. and Jack Nicklaus. The beautiful and challenging Mount Juliet golf course has established itself as a premier golfing venue for Top Professionals and leisure golfers worldwide. Chosen as the first and only Jack Nicklaus signature golf course in Ireland, the “Golden Bear” was meticulous and pain-staking in his design and overseeing of the construction of his great creation. In preparation for the WGC - American Express Golf Championship that was held here in September 2002 and again in 2004, the Jack Nicklaus design team instigated some extensions and new features to the course, showing Mount Juliet’s continued pursuit of golfing excellence.
Mount Juliet Golf Club members can avail of the best in golfing on our Jack Nicklaus designed golf course. Set in a world of its own, on lush parkland in the south east of Ireland, Mount Juliets Jack Nicklaus course is both captivating and memorable. The acclamation from Tiger Woods that Mount Juliet presented “perfect fairways... and the best greens we have putted on all year.” was rich embellishment of the stature of Ireland’s leading championship parkland golf course. Mount Juliet golf members can also enjoy a rich social calendar of events throughout the year with something to suit all the family. Events range from the key calendar golfing events to the members summer party along with fun and fashionable events for both the ladies and the gentlemen. The Course When Jack Nicklaus was asked to design and build the 18-hole signature course at Mount Juliet, he created one of Europe’s most renowned courses. The outstanding parkland facility takes full advantage of the natural beauty of the estate, dominated by magnificent specimen trees and river scenery. This testing par 72 course offers a most enjoyable golfing experience to players of all standards. Mount Juliet has hosted the Irish Open on three occasions and was the venue for the Shell Wonderful World of Golf event. At the WGC - American Express

Built in 2003 and venue to three European Opens (2004, 2006 and 2007) the Arnold Palmer designed, Smurfit Course at the world famous K Club is one of Europe’s premier courses and a jewel in the crown of the Irish golfing world. This inland links inspired course has set the stage for some of golf’s most dramatic moments. Indeed, who could forget the excitement of the 2004 Smurfit European Open when Retief Goosen went on to win just two weeks after taking his second US Open title? Or the closing stages of the 2007 Smurfit European Open, when Colin Montgomerie finally ended his 18 month drought without a trophy and somehow stayed out of the water on the 18th to win the 2007 European Open by just one shot? Some of the world’s top golfers have played on this superb championship course and so too can you as membership to the exhilarating Smurfit Course is now open. The Irish Golf Guide
Despite being located just 30 minutes from Dublin, the course enjoys a peaceful, rural setting and has particular maritime influences which can be noted by the dramatic dune type mounding and wide fairways. Honey coloured grasses, bracken and gorse frame the fairways, rustling in the wind as it sweeps across steep bunkers and meticulously contoured putting surfaces. There are several lakes and streams throughout the course offering challenging and interesting play. A combination of doglegs leads you to the breathtaking signature hole, the almighty 7th, also known as ‘The Swallow Quarry. This golf hole is one of the most spectacular in Europe and comprises of a vast, man made rock face that rises some 60 feet out of a glorious lake. From its elevated tee box golfers can admire the rolling fairway, bordered by a crystal blue lake. However, its beauty belies its treachery and players are well advised to admire the view from the centre of the fairway! The 18th is a Par 5 and often tempts the player to make a go for the green in two. The hole sweeps down and curves from right to left but beware, a cluster of bunkers guard the right edge of the fairway, a mistake here could be fatal as the approach to the finish must be performed on an island green! Several islands have been created on the course to encourage wild life and waterfowl and of course to make it all that bit more challenging for players. Some 14 acres of water have been worked into the design especially through the final phase of holes 13 -18 and a watery grave awaits many a golfer on the home stretch.
All in all, a round on The Smurfit Course is challenging but as many golfers will testify, “very playable”. With wide fairways, inviting greens and plenty of bunkers to catch you out, this course will not just meet your expectations it will truly exceed them. Stand on the first tee box and listen to the background music of birds singing and the gentle rustle of the wind through the grasses...and wait for that ‘oh so glorious sound’...the ball dropping into the hole! The resort is also home to The Palmer Ryder Cup Course (venue for the Ryder Cup 2006), The Kildare Hotel (AA Hotel of the Year 2011), an award winning spa and several restaurants and bars. The Smurfit Clubhouse is truly impressive and features a spacious lobby area and a magnificent atrium above. There is a dedicated check in area and reception, a pro shop and two dining outlets including The Riverside Café and Kwam Suk Royal Thai and Orient Restaurant. This Thai restaurant offers a delectable menu of Asian inspired dishes while The Smurfit Bar next door is a great place to enjoy a refreshing drink or bite to eat after a round of golf. Light snacks and lunches are also served daily in the Riverside Café which is located on the ground floor of the Smurfit Clubhouse and provides welcome sustenance for hungry golfers while the pro shop is well stocked with golf clothing and equipment. Family, spouse and junior memberships are also available. For further details or to enquire about membership of The Smurfit Course call (01) 6017200 email sales@kclub.ie or log on to www.kclub.ie

The Irish Golf Guide
Ireland Regional Overview
Ireland Ireland is the third largest island in Europe, and the twentieth largest island in the world. Historically, Ireland is divided into four ancient provinces, Leinster, Munster, Connaught and Ulster. There are thirtytwo counties within those provinces. For tourism the country is divided into regions which may cross over provinces. This history is reflected in the warm hospitality, underrated delicious traditional dishes, brilliant music, and beautiful landscape. Whether enjoying a morning breakfast at a B&B, downing a pint or two in a pub, experiencing the local artists, or hiking along a seaside cliff, it is hard not to feel a part of the dramatic culture and rich history that is Ireland. Throughout the entire island of Ireland there are thousands of lakes and rivers that are natural wonders. In addition, Ireland’s ancient past makes it an archeological paradise, with many sites dating back thousands of years. There is so much to
explore and experience, that no matter where you travel in Ireland, it will be a fantastic exploration, with unsurpassed hospitality. The scenery is ever changing, simply spectacular, and literally unfolds before your eyes. All over Ireland you can enjoy the outdoors from fishing to golf, horse riding to water sports. Local eateries offer a wide range of food from simple to fine dining. However, whether plain or fancy, the fare is usually fresh, often home grown, and absolutely fantastic. Ireland is a golfer’s paradise - if you are prepared for changing weather, strong winds and challenging courses. The older Irish courses are legend, the new ones getting there. Choosing the perfect courses for a golfing tour of Ireland is a hard task, that is why The Irish Golf Guide is your perfect partner for choosing the course that is right for you. Whether you want famous links courses, classic parkland or luxurious golf resorts, Ireland has it all.

How to Find When you pass the Lantern Lodge Roundabout on the N21 to Adare, you can see the glf course on the left through the trees. The entrance is further on before you cross the bridge over the River Maigue.
Adare Manor Golf Club, one of the hidden jewels in the Irish golfing firmament, was established in 1900 when the 4th Earl of Dunraven invited the Scottish professional, Ben Sayers, to come over and lay out a nine hole course on the picturesque part of his vast estate. Our club has a proud tradition of hospitality and friendliness. Our 18-hole parkland golf course provides an historic Irish golfing experience. The Desmond Castle (1200 ad) is a magnificent backdrop to the 1st and 15th greens, while the ruins of the Franciscan Abbey (1464 ad) dominate the centre of the course.
Adare Manor Golf Club
Golfing societies and all visitors are very welcome, and will find the tree-lined fairways a serious golfing challenge. Signature Hole: No 18 is a shortish par 4 but needs careful management. Firstly, you drive through a narrow gap between trees as far as the dogleg. Then you must steer a clear course between the graveyard along your right and trees guarding the castle on the left in order to reach an uphill green. Even if you hit the green in 2 shots your par is not guaranteed - a large green sloping from right to left and from top to bottom.

A very early visitor to the course was Bernard Darwin, the first recognised golf correspondent. Writing in 1907, after savouring its delights, he wrote: ‘Apart from it extraordinary beauty and the unique character of its hazards, Adare is quite out or the ordinary run of courses, it is all rather in miniature, and there is something wonderfully attractive in an occasional round on a course of this kind after a spell of battling with the breeze over long seaside links’.

ARDGLASS
Located 30 miles from Belfast on the beautiful County Down coast, Ardglass Golf Club is links golf as it should be. With views of the rugged and beautiful coast line from every hole and the majesty of the Mourne Mountains providing the perfect back-drop, Ardglass has a true claim to be rated amongst the world’s greatest links courses.
Ardglass Golf Course is an 18 hole links course on the north-eastern coast of Ireland with some stunning views and many excellent and unique golf holes. The course is just 50 minutes by car from Belfast and only 30 minutes from the world renowned Royal County Down golf links at Newcastle. The new course which incorporates the 3 new holes designed by Mr David Jones in 1998 has created a trully challenging test of golf, particularly on a windy day. The course hugs the coastline, with no fewer than 8 holes where the Irish Sea coastline comes into play. The Irish Sea is visible from all 18
holes and on a clear day it is possible to see across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man. Ardglass really is a course to savour with some outstanding holes. The 161yd Par 3 2nd, the 480yd Par 5 11th and the 181yd Par 3 12th each require a carry across the coastline and cliffs tops of the Irish Sea and rank amoung the best holes in Ireland. The view from the elevated 12th tee, with the backdrop of the Irish Sea and Mourne Mountains is to die for. We do hope you come and play our course in Northern Ireland and we don’t believe you will be disappointed.

How to Find Follow the M50/M11 southbound and continue onto the N11 southbound. Take the first exit for Arklow. Cross Hoey’s bridge and take left up South Quay. Turn right up S. Green to junction. Take left facing Dainty Bakery Shop onto Tinahask Road. Take next right up Tinahask Road Lower. Take right fork at The Wicklow Baptist Church up St Michael’s Tce. Head straight up the hill and into Arklow Golf Links.
Arklow Golf Club was formed in 1927. Since the very beginning, the Club has extended a warm and inviting welcome to all of its visitors from at home and from overseas. Your friends at Arklow will ensure that your visit is much more than a great round of golf. South Wicklow’s beauty, the adjacent Irish Sea, reasonable rates and extraordinary service will guarantee your personal satisfaction above all else. This traditional links was originally formed by Hawtree & Taylor and has evolved with the aid of inputs from Eddie Hackett and in recent times Eddie Connaughton. The links has been described as a hidden jewel and the
Southern Region of the Irish PGA held their 2001 and 2002 Championships on this links. Signature Hole Hole 2, Par 4, ‘The Graveyard’ This is a stiff test as the green is unsighted from the tee due to a large dune. It is best to drive to the left of the fairway which avoids heavy rough on right and opens up a good view of the green. Difficult undulations on the green make this a tough par 4 and well worthy of its Index 6. The name derives from the distant past when it was an animal graveyard. Designer and five times (5) Open Champion J H Taylor considered this hole to be the best test of golf on the course.

The combination of a fine golf course and a very friendly atmosphere in our clubhouse
makes Ashbourne Golf Club a perfect venue for a casual round or a society outing. The facilities have been improved with the opening of our new restaurant by award winning chef Keith Kenny. Golfers and nongolfers alike can enjoy Keith’s fine food in the friendly atmosphere of the bar or the more formal setting of the restaurant. Signature Hole: Hole 12, Par 4, 373 Metres A fantastic hole that brings the river into play from the tee and again on the approach. Steely nerves are required even if the golfer decides to lay up on their second shot. A classic risk and reward Par 4.

How to Find
Athlone
From the East: Follow signs for Galway on the M6 motorway. Continue past Athlone on the bypass. Cross over the River Shannon bridge and take the Roscommon Exit (N61). Continue towards Roscommon for approximately 5kms. Athlone Golf Club is well sign posted and located to your right.
Athlone Golf Club was founded in 1892 making it one of the longest established clubs in the country. It is a superb 18-hole parkland course situated on the shores of Lough Ree in the centre of the country bounded on three sides by picturesque Lough Ree. Beautifully designed, the course exploits the natural splendour of its surroundings, affording from its vantage points and from the modern strategically appointed clubhouse, with panoramic views of the lake and its wooded islands. Its tree-lined fairways and undulating terrain make it a true test of golf for all standards of golfer.
Athlone Golf Club has hosted many provincial and national championships, including the All-Ireland Cups and Shields Finals in 1998. Also, in 2007, the All Ireland Mixed and All Ireland Ladies Championships were held here. Signature Hole: 13th, 396m par 4. A severe dogleg right to left, you drive over “the saddle” into a valley. The braver you are with your tee shot, the shorter the blind approach to the relatively small green, protected by a bunker to the left and mounds and hollows to the right. A par is a great score on any day. Anything higher and you will want to go back and play it again… but differently!

How to Find
BRAY
From Dublin Airport: Take the M1 towards Dublin City. Then take the slip road for the M50 and follow the M50 Southbound. Proceed through toll bridge and continue along the M50 until it meets the N11. Travel along the N11 for approximately 3 miles and take the 5th turn-off which is signposted for Bray & Greystones. At the roundabout turn right and travel along the Southern Cross Road until you reach the roundabout at the Ramada Woodlands Court hotel. Turn right and drive for 700 yards. The entrance to the course is on the left. Bray Golf Club is a magnificent USGA-standard parkland course, set in nearly 200 acres, between Bray Head and the Sugar Loaf Mountain with magnificent views of Killiney Bay and the Wicklow Mountains. Described as “spectacular in every aspect”, Bray combines stunning scenery with a classic layout. Our course, which has been in play since June, 2003, was designed by Des Smyth (2006 Ryder Cup Vice-Captain) and Declan Brannigan and is a striking example of modern design with old style golfing values. It provides the perfect environment for all golfers. The design strategy involved a tiered effect for the
fairways, thereby negating to a large degree the effect of the sloping site on which the course was constructed. As a result a large number of the holes are relatively flat. The course was constructed using modern construction methods and the sand based USGA specification greens provide wonderful putting surfaces all year round. The choice of three tees on each hole provides the player with three different tests of golf. The Blue tees total 5990 metres in length, with the white measuring 5645 metres and the yellow tees 5188 metres.

Founded in 1992, Charlesland Golf Club offers a great golfing experience and is renowned for the quality of its welcome and its service. The course at just under 7,000 yards from the championship tees skirts the Irish Sea for the best part of the front nine and the home run is true parkland with many attractive and demanding holes where water comes into play on seven holes. From the back tees it can present a stern test for the low handicap golfer as wind is an ever-present factor and there are many tough par-4s with well-guarded greens. But with generous landing areas there are also good scoring opportunities on the
par-5’s, and a variety of tees allows all golfers a fair and challenging playing experience. Charlesland Golf Club also offers superb accommodation comprising 12 well-appointed, spacious en suite rooms, and there is a welcoming bar and restaurant. The conference and meeting facilities add to make this an ideal business venue. With a fully stocked modern pro-shop, range facilities, buggy, trolley and club hire the golfer could not ask for more. The 18th is typical of Hackett’s vision - a double dogleg and a massive 562 metres from the championship tees with a sting in the tail.

Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club Newmarket-on-Fergus Clare
Dromoland Castle
Telephone: +353 061 368144 sales@dromoland.ie www.dromoland.ie
How to Find Dromoland Castle is ideally located 8 miles from Shannon Airport in Clare just outside Newmarket on Fergus. The proximity of this beautiful castle hotel in Clare Ireland to other major cities in the South /South West of Ireland make it an ideal location for touring: 19 miles from Limerick city, 48 miles from Galway city, 80 miles from Cork city and 88 miles from Killarney.
Dromoland Castle Golf and Country Club has been in existence since 1962 and golf has been played for 43 years over the lush rolling tree lined landscape that drains into Dromoland Lough with the Castle as a backdrop. The course was entirely revamped in 2004 at a cost of over €5million, and has subsequently been refined and polished over the following few years. The Course architects, Ron Kirby and the late JB Carr teamed up again following their success at the Old Head of Kinsale. The result is nothing short of spectacular and places Dromoland at the vanguard of “must play” golf destinations on the island of Ireland.
Already the course has earned a reputation equalling that of Adare and Mount Juliet and the quality of the greens and tees is compared very favourably to the very best worldwide. Dromoland Castle golf resort is one of the finest 5 star hotels in Ireland and now has a golf course to equal the splendour of the setting. Visitors to the course have eloquently described it as “the Augusta of Ireland”. Our signature hole is the par 3, 7th at 179 yards. Large lake vista with Dromoland castle as a background, well shaped green with green side bunker on the right and a feature pond short and left of the green.

There are few places in the world that encapsulate the true spirit of the game of golf like Druids Heath. The Mountains, Sea and rolling Irish Countryside provide stunning vistas throughout your round. The sea breeze calls for shot-making skills and imagination from the golfer.
In the words of Pat Ruddy “Druids Heath affords the player the opportunity to stride-out in a place which is invigorating to both body and soul with the ever present sea breezes adding greatly to a sporting challenge, which is quite difficult to concentrate on as the eye wanders eagerly fifty miles out to sea, twenty miles southwards over an unspoiled, rolling pastoral scene to Wicklow Head and inland to the Wicklow Mountains. Dull would he be of soul who would allow a few stray shots spoil a day in such a blessed spot”. Venue for the 2006 Irish PGA Championship, Druids Heath has played host to many of the worlds leading Tour Players.

From the Airport merge onto M50 Southbound. At exit 12, take left slip road left to Knocklyon/Ballyboden/Firhouse. Go straight through two roundabouts. At 3rd roundabout take last exit onto Ballyboden Road. Keep straight onto R116 Edmondstown is on left hand side. From Dublin/Christchurch Place N81. Turn left to stay on N81/Nicholas Street. Keep straight onto R114. Turn left onto Rathfarnham Road. Turn right onto R115/ Willbrook Road. At roundabout, take 2nd exit . Keep straight onto R116 Edmondstown is on left hand side. Possessing a fair but testing reputation, Edmondstown Golf Club, in delightful environs in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains 7 miles to the south and west of the city centre, is a well maintained and manicured course in elevated deciduous parkland. Major focal points of the course are the secluded 4th and 6th holes, which are isolated from the remainder of the course by a meandering stream, drawing the golfer into a difficult shot to the green; indeed the aforementioned 6th remains one of the best inland par fours in Ireland. The Club plays host to many outings during
the year and can provide first class food and drink in a friendly atmosphere. It is this friendliness which members cherish among themselves and which ensures that visitors are made to feel welcome. Signature Hole: Hole 6 - Par 4 - 382 Metres The elevated tee yields a beautiful view of this well protected green, surrounded by river (front), as well as bunkers and ponds. But don’t spend too much time enjoying the scenery. Try to leave approach short of pin, as the green slopes strongly from back to front. Par is a good score, as danger lurks around every turn...

The 200 acre estate can be found just 7km (4 miles) from Waterford City in the heart of Ireland’s sunny South East. The course situated on the banks of the River Suir, has been perfectly designed into a wonderful landscape. Its design uses the combination of mature trees, flowing terrain and the
beautiful picturesque setting to fine effect. With a championship yardage of 6674 yards, it ensures that all level of golfer will be tested but at the same time enjoy the challenge of negotiating a good score at Faithlegg. Signature Hole: 16th Par 3 166yards - “Olivia’s Garden”. With mature trees left and right creating a “tunnel effect” tee shot, adds not only beauty to the hole but also adds to the difficulty of the shot being played into a very shallow green. Guarded by a well-positioned sand trap at the front and another, which creeps around the right hand side of the green, catching any off hit tee shots with great ease!

Fota Island Golf Club is just a few minutes drive from Cork City’s international airport. Located in the heart of a 780 acre estate which is included in “The Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes in Ireland”. The splendid woodlands are woven into three challenging championship courses which are very much in the traditional mode, featuring strategically placed bunkers and undulating putting surfaces. The Deerpark Course at Fota Island Resort, with its receptive greens and strategic bunkering impresses even the most experienced professionals. The Deerpark was proud to host the Irish Open in 2001 and 2002.
The Belvelly Course at Fota Island Resort, a Par 72 course stretching over 7121 yards from the championship tees, includes the new ninehole layout also developed by Jeff Howes. The Barryscourt Course at Fota Island Resort, a Par 73 course, also incorporates the new nine-hole layout. Signature Hole: Hole 10, Deerpark Course. A lovely down hill par 5, needs a tee shot down the right side of the fairway to comfortably reach this green in 2. The second shot is very dangerous to the green, with water short right and over the back. A good risk reward hole.

GALWAY BAY
How to Find
The Natural water hazard is the Atlantic Ocean; such is the dramatic backdrop to this Par 72 PGA Championship 18 hole golf course that is Galway Bay Golf Resort. When designing the course, former Ryder Cup and World Cup golfer Christy O’Connor Jnr superbly blended the stunning backdrop of Galway Bay and the rugged curves of the Atlantic coastline with gentle undulating mounding along the fairways, water hazards, concealed bunkers and highly acclaimed putting surfaces. With variable wind speed and directions this Championship Galway golf course plays
differently each day posing a considerable challenge to even the lowest handicap golfers, yet it is a true and fair test of golf. After your round you can savour the moment with fond memories in the clubhouse looking out on the spectacular course as it winds its way along the shoreline of Galway Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Signature Hole: Hole 14. The par 5 14th is the signature hole playing 555 yards from the tips. The risk and reward left to right dog leg layout allows those who are able to cut the corner out over the bay to easily reach the green in two.

Continue on this road (N22), bypassing Ballincollig. On arrival in Killarney, at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit towards Tralee and Limerick. The Club is approx 1km on this road and the entrance is on the left.
The Golf & Fishing Club Killarney Golf & Fishing Club has a spectacular lakeside location next to the National Park approximately 3 km from Killarney town centre on the Killorglin - Ring of Kerry Road. Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is one of the oldest, well established and internationally recognised Clubs in Ireland. It has a membership of over 1,700 members from all over the world and the Club’s location is one of the most enviable in the World. The Killeen course is very much the flagship course at the club. The Killarney lakes and high mountain range provide an imposing
backdrop to this course. Re-opened in June 2006 the course is slightly longer with faster greens that have been brought closer to the water hazards around the course. Killeen most recently hosted the 2010 & 2011 Irish Open with Ross Fisher and Simon Dyson the respective winners. The addition of a newly constructed 1st tee box extended the course from 6566 to 6590 metres. At 6590 metres it will challenge long hitters with accuracy being vital as there is water on virtually every hole. Sir Nick Faldo on winning The Irish Open in 1991 was one of only three players to finish under par.

Monkstown Golf Club rejoices in its distinguished history and its unique setting overlooking Cork’s glorious harbour. The antiquity of the site is evoked by the ruins of the old castle which provided the members with a distinctive club-house before the ravages of time turned the grand old building into an un-inhabitable place.
Signature Hole 16th hole, Par 3, 172 metres. Stunning shot over water to a back drop of mature trees
The shell that remains is a poignant reminder of past glories and of the once-proud building that enhanced such a glorious and significant site when it was built in 1636. It is fitting that its outline should form the crest of a club that was founded in 1908.

Mount Juliet Golf Course opened in 1991 with a match featuring golfing legends Christy O’Connor Snr. and Jack Nicklaus. In preparation for the WGC - American Express Golf Championship that was held here in September 2002 and again in 2004,
the Jack Nicklaus design team instigated some extensions and new features to the course, showing Mount Juliet’s continued pursuit of golfing excellence. Signature Holes: Feature holes on Mount Juliet Golf Course include the stunning 3rd hole, a par 3 from an elevated tee to a green guarded by a natural stream and lake... one that golfers always remember. Also the par 5, 10th hole with its copse of trees which tests the golfers strategy. The final hole, a long par 4 with water all down the left and a narrow approach to the green has decided many a tournament result.

From Dublin: Get onto the M1 heading North and continue through the Toll Plaza and across the Boyne Suspension Bridge. Take the Drogheda North Exit. Then take the right hand exit (Monasterboice) from the first roundabout. Go straight at next roundabout. At the 3rd roundabout take the first left for the Monasterboice exit. Continue on this road and follow the signs to Termonfeckin. When you arrive in Termonfeckin you will be opposite a church. Turn left and cross a hump back bridge. Take the next right which will be signposted for Seapoint Golf Club which is 1 mile further on the right hand side. The challenge at Seapoint begins from the first tee embarking onto a testing 7,150 yard Par 72 course set on 260 acres of magnificent links land. There is an abundance of natural vegetation and wonderful dunes awaiting any errant shot. Every club in the bag is required to play this championship course. Progress through a front nine with a slightly heath land feel with an abundance of gorse and mature tress lining the boundary of the course. Water comes into play on 5 of the holes. The back nine drift close to the sea and are characterised by uneven fairways, thick rough and deep bunkers, requiring
accuracy both off the tee and into the greens. Continuing home to the clubhouse presents little time to relax with the last three holes weaving through dunes and distracting the golfer with panoramic views and a strong sea breeze - pure links enjoyment. Signature Hole: Hole 11, Par 4. Placement off the tee is key at this hole, find the left hand side of the fairway just short of the bunker and you are in prime position. Be careful with the second shot as it is uphill and players tend to come up short. This is a beautiful par 4 and you will travel a long way to find one better.

Forming part of a magnificent 300 acre estate, including 50 acres of lakes, our highly acclaimed 18-hole championship course is sensitively wrapped around the lakes and the drumlins of the County Cavan landscape. The course presents a wonderful challenge and the devilishly tricky greens present a searching examination of accurate approach play, which adds to the enjoyment factor.
The Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club has hosted some major European Challenge Tour and Irish PGA Tournaments. These include, the Buzz.com North West of Ireland Open, the Irish PGA Championship and also the Quinn Insurance PGA Charity Pro-Am, which has been held since 1997 and has now become an annual event and boasts the highest prize fund for Irish PGA Professionals.
Not surprisingly the complex has always proved very popular with visiting golf groups from all over Ireland, the UK and Europe and many return on a regular basis to sample our renowned hospitality.
Whilst every hole on the golf course is a challenge, the par 5 13th is the signature hole with its fairway hugging the shores of one of the course’s natural lakes offering a risk/reward opportunity on every shot.

There is not one ’pushover’ hole on the entire course and wind conditions can be a major factor in how the course is played. There are 408 Golf clubs in Ireland, but only 53 of these are links courses, and St. Anne’s are proud to be one of this exclusive ’club’.
with a new state-of-the-art clubhouse and significant development to the course itself. This included the building of five new greens and eight new tee complexes. The sacred turf of the old Croke Park pitch was used to great effect in developing, strengthening and giving real definition to the back nine in St. Anne’s.
The unique setting of this famous old links, with the splendid panoramic views of Howth Head and across Dublin Bay to the Wicklow mountains, ensures a most relaxing and enjoyable game. Founded in 1921, it is a member-owned golf club. In 2003 an extensive redevelopment of the course was completed,
Hole 7, “Brent”, Par 4, 472 yards (Blue Tee). The seventh hole is surely one of the strongest Par 4’s in North County Dublin. This long demanding hole requires an accurate drive to the right hand side of the fairway in order to set up a shot to the semi blind green. To play this hole in par is a delight whatever your handicap.

It comes as no surprise to learn that, due to the majestic beauty of this setting, Palmer chose it to be his first and, arguably, his finest golf course in Europe.
In addition to boasting a clear view of the Atlantic Ocean from every hole, Tralee has a fully qualified resident professional, well stocked Pro shop, a comfortable restaurant & bar, and is known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere. A trip to Southwest Ireland could not be complete without playing this most precious and unpretentious of golfing jewels. Signature Hole: 3rd. The Castle. The show-piece of the course - a slender finger of green rising from the crashing waves - requires no more than an eight or nine iron, but the rocks and hungry sea at the right have claimed many a ball.

Tramore Golf Club Newtown Hill, Tramore Co. Waterford Telephone: +353 (0)51 386170 info@tramoregolfclub.com www.tramoregolfclub.com
How to Find
Tramore
Coming from Waterford: turn right at the second roundabout. Proceed up the hill straight through the next two roundabouts on to the Ring road. The Golf Club is about a mile along the road on the right. Coming from the Cork road: turn right at the first roundabout. You are now on the Ring road. Coming from the Dungarvan Coast road turn left at the first roundabout. The Club is 50 meters on your left.
The Old Course, “Championship golf at it’s finest”. It is widely accepted that in 1938 when Captain H.C.C. Tippet laid out Tramore Golf Course something special was created. Visitors over years have spoken fondly of their favourite holes and when Henry Cotton played Harry Bradshaw here in 1937 he described the Par 4, 17th hole as “one of the finest golf holes he had played”. That’s why in 2006 when course designer Jeff Howes was awarded the contract to remodel the original 18 holes it was on the strict understanding that he could only enhance what was already there. Those who are familiar with
the old course marvel at the result and all are in agreement that Jeff Howes excelled at his task. Although the Newtown 9 Hole Course is a relatively new addition at Tramore, early comments are very favorable and a round of golf on it is “Highly Recommended” Signature Holes At 344 meters the Par 4, 17th requires a good drive up the right hand side as access to the green is restricted by tall trees on the left. The elevated green is protected by a bunker at the front and trees at the rear calling for a high degree of accuracy with your second shot.

The Irish Golf Guide
Leinster Introduction
Leinster The province of Leinster takes in an area from the southern border of Northern Ireland through to the sunny south east corner of the island of Ireland, with over one and a half million people living in the vibrant, not to be missed city of Dublin and its surrounding areas alone. Leinster takes in the counties of Carlow, Dublin & Dublin City, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford & Wicklow. It has a long sea coast, stretching from Carlingford Bay in County Louth to Hook Head in County Wexford. Leinster is probably best viewed as a series of sub regions, each sub region encapsulating its own local geography, unique landscape and separate but co-joined history. From the ancient Hill of Tara and the world famous stone age site at Newgrange, at 5000 years old it is considered to be one the oldest man made structures in the world, to the vibrant and stylish city of Kilkenny and then to Wicklow, the famous
‘Garden of Ireland’, there are an amazing number of historical and fascinating places to visit for both the golfer and non-golfer alike. Dublin, it’s Capital is a county as well as a city and sprawls over a large part of this area. From the superb nightlife to the modern museums and art galleries, great little sea-side resorts along the coast, the lavish gardens of Howth Castle, or the unique and wonderful collection of Irish furniture and paintings at Malahide Castle - its all here in a city not to be missed. From a golfing perspective, there are more courses in Leinster than any other province in Ireland. With plenty of great links courses such as Arklow, Seapoint and St Annes, to the large inland golf resorts of Druid’s Glen, Mount Juliet and Carton House, not forgetting the reknowned K Club near Dublin, where The Ryder Cup was won so emphatically by Europe in 2006, Leinster has plenty of variety to challenge golfers of all levels.
“From a golfing perspective, there are more courses in Leinster than any other province in Ireland.”

The Irish Golf Guide
Connaught Introduction
Connaught The province of Connaught (Connacht) lies in the West of Ireland with its coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. The counties of Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Galway and Roscommon are within its boundary. Historically, Connaught has retained its rich Gaelic heritage and today still has communities where the Irish language is spoken. These regions are collectively called the Gaeltacht. Connaught has some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside to be found in Ireland, including the spectacular mountainous landscape of Connemara. The primary business centre of Connaught, and most densely populated area, is the thriving city of Galway to the south of the province. Galway is the capital of the West of Ireland. The streets and buildings of this ancient town have many interesting features, and its position on
the edge of the Gaeltacht makes it the gateway to magnificent areas such as Connemara, Corrib country, and the Aran Islands. The city itself is a continuing centre of growth with its University, Institute of Technology, Theatres, Cathedral, Castle, Hotels, Docks, Industries as well as other interesting attractions. As for golf, the dramatic scenery and splendour of the Connaught region has created wonderful natural landscapes for golf course designers to hone their skills. Like all areas in the west of Ireland, the first obstacle to a good score is Mother Nature herself. The golfer will find that he or she will not alone have to contend with the cunning and guile of architect allied to the terrain, but must adjust for what is benignly known in local parlance as the “westerly breeze” coming straight across three thousand miles of Atlantic Ocean.
“Some of the most beautiful & unspoilt countryside to be found in Ireland...”

The Irish Golf Guide
Munster Introduction
Munster Munster is the southern most province of Ireland and is home to 6 of the 32 counties – Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Wareford and Tipperary. All the counties in Munster touch the Atlantic except for Tipperary – tha largest county in Ireland. Cork is the second largest county in Ireland and is also the second largest city. Other cities in the province include Limerick and Waterford. The major towns are Tralee, Killarney, Ennis, Clonmel and Thurles. Cork has a population of over 160,000 people. Like Venice the city is built upon the waters, and Cork centre is built on an island in the River Lee, just upstream of Cork Harbour. The two channels of the River Lee which embrace the city centre are spanned by many bridges, and this gives the city a distinctive continental air. However it is often said of Cork City that it has all the amenities of a large city, but still manages to retain its pleasant atmosphere and extreme friendliness, which you will experience on your visit. Cork is a city of
remarkable charm, and the visitor cannot fail to be captivated by its hilly streets, bumpy bridges and peaceful backwaters. Munster is a tremendously fertile area of Ireland with many major rivers including the Bandon, the Lee, the Blackwater, the Suir and the final stages of the Shannon and its spectacular Lough Derg which is a border point of Munster, Connacht and Leinster. Munster has a number of mountain ranges and includes the largest peak in Ireland - Carrauntoohil in Kerry’s majestic MacGillycuddy Reeks. Sport is almost regarded as a religion in Munster. The Gaelic Athletic Association - GAA - was formed in Thurles, Co.Tipperary and all Munster counties are passionate about their hurling and gaelic football. Munster rugby unites all the six counties and their followers and supporters are known the world over. There are golf courses to suit every golfer throughout Munster, from fine parkland courses
and resorts such as Killarney and Mahoneys’s Point in Kerry and Fota Island Golf and Country Club, Lee Valley and Monkstown in Cork. The province is also home to several spectacular and world reknowned links courses including Tralee, Waterville and Dooks in County Kerry, all situated on the wild Atlantic coast.

Ulster Introduction

Ulster From the natural wonders of the Giants Causeway and the Marble Arch caves, to the country houses and gardens of Castleward, Mount Stewart and Florencecourt, the glorious sandy beaches on the Antrim coast and the tranquil shores of Lough Erne and Strangford Lough, right across to the spectacular and rugged coastline of Donegal there is much to see and do in this varied and beautiful province of Ulster. There are the bustling and colourful cities of Belfast and Londonderry, with their many stylish bars, restaurants, hotels and many historical attractions. However, if you’re looking for breathtaking scenery, the Antrim Coast really is as impressive as its reputation suggests. It is one of the most beautiful shorelines in Ireland, winding past towering cliffs, sandy beaches, picturesque harbours and family resorts. Inland lies Lough Neagh, the largest lake in Great Britain and Ireland and the Fermanagh lakelands, sprinkled with tiny islands, wooded parks and monastic ruins.
On the west coast lies Donegal, with its breathtaking misty mountains, serene lakes and dramatic coastlines. Donegal boasts a vast rugged coastline softened regularly by a succession of beautiful beaches with golden sand and clear fresh waters. Inland, Donegal is wild and unspoilt with winding roads leading to never-ending spectacular vistas. Major attractions include Glenveagh National Park and Castle, Tory Island, Glebe House and Gallery, Colmcille Heritage Centre, Fort Dunree Military Museum and Abbey Mill Wheels. Letterkenny, County Donegal’s largest town, has a vibrant atmosphere. It’s a great place to shop for everything from high street fashions to quality handcrafted goods and designer clothes - alternatively, you can relax and enjoy a coffee in one of Letterkenny’s many continental-style cafes. Seaside resorts like Bundoran provide a change of mood - if you’re looking for lively nights filled with music, song and dance, then Bundoran is the place to go.
The golf courses in Ulster contain an impressive mix of quality Parkland, Heathland and Links courses, and in Royal Portrush and Royal County Down, two world renowned golf courses along with Ballyliffin and Rosapenna in Donegal, all of which offer a spectacular links challenge to keep golfers from both sides of the Atlantic returning to these shores again and again.

Travel Spain > Costa del Sol
Costa del Sol Spain
The Costa del Sol lies in the province of Andalucia in the south of Spain. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. This ‘Sun Coast’ runs for 150 km from Malaga to Estepona, with skies predominantly blue all year round and brilliant sunshine. Costa del Sol offers a series of large beaches, coves hidden amongst cliffs, famous leisure marinas such as ‘Puerto Banus’ and tranquil fishing ports.
In the provincial capital, Malaga, stands the military fortress of the Alcazaba, built by the Moors in the 11th century. At the far end of the Costa del Sol is the geographical & political oddity Gibraltar, with visits to see the Barbary Apes and abundant military history. This great diversity means that it has something to offer just about everyone, with enough entertainment and variety to please all types of visitor.
The Mediterranean sea is warm and safe and the hills and high mountains shelter the coastline, these elements allow for an all year micro climate making it the perfect location for golf. Known to many as the ‘Costa del Golf’ due to the outstanding choice of luxury golf courses set along this coastline, with over 50 to choose from you will have to keep returning to experience them all.

Marbella Club Golf Resort Only a few have played it, but everyone fell in love Elegance, style, friendliness, excellence, peaceful perfection‌ these words will come into your mind from the first moment you step into the Marbella Club Golf Resort, even before you get to the first tee.
COSTA DEL SOL
The Irish Golf Guide
Marbella Club Golf Resort was inaugurated in 1999 after being designed and built by world famous golfer Dave Thomas. This is probably one of his most exciting projects, mainly because creating a golf course up to the standards of the historic Marbella Club Hotel was an absolute challenge.
The course demands a good knowledge of how to hit the ball with different clubs from different lies and concentration is a must to avoid being distracted by the stunning views of the rock of Gibraltar, North African Atlas mountains, the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding Benahavis countryside.
Having said this, the result is a hilly but fair golf course with well protected greens and a good number of elevated tees. The 18th is a breathtaking hole with one of the most inviting tee shots you will ever play. It is a shame not every golfer can play the Marbella Club Golf Resort and experience this hole.
Fascinating facts about the Marbella Club Golf Resort: - Average tee time interval is 20 minutes - Limited number of players per day is 80 - The course lay out keeps most fairways separated from each other, ensuring privacy
Marbella Club only allows a limited number of visitors per day and therefore advance booking is strongly recommended. Keep this in mind: The hardest part of your day will be deciding what you liked most, the Golf Course or the Club House Restaurant, where you’ll be served by the friendliest and most professional staff in Costa del Sol. Marbella Club Golf Resort has a younger sister, El Higueral Golf, which has quickly become a reference in Marbella. This course opened in 2007, allowing golfers to play a surprising and picturesque golf course which is walkable,

These courses are owned and operated by the Marbella Club Hotel and the Puente Romano Hotel, both elite members of the Leading Hotels of the World.
Puente Romano is without a doubt the best option for truly demanding golf travelers seeking a luxury and active golfing experience.
Puente Romano Hotel, recently awarded “Best Golf Resort International” at the International Hotel Awards, is located in the heart of Marbella’s Golden Mile with direct access to the beach. It provides the biggest
