Welcome to our brand new, completely redesigned Costa del Sol Golf Guide. In this guide we have compiled all the information you need to select from many fantastic golf courses on the southern coast of Spain, along with handy maps of how to find them. On each course page there is a detailed map, as well as written instructions. The vast majority of maps use the main coastal dual carriageway, the A-7 as the starting point. Confusingly, this crosses over into the N-340, and is often referred to by either name. This is NOT the new motorway, known as the Autopista del Mediterráneo, AP-7 / E-15. It is said that in England pubs are used as landmarks to give directions - and in Wales it’s chapels. Here on the Costa del Sol it is the kilometre markers on both sides of the road. They are usually metal signs on posts about two metres high, but unfortunately they are not large or very conspicuous. Keep your eyes open for them at the earliest opportunity to establish what you’re looking for - you’ll know approximately how far you’ve travelled and be aware if you’ve missed one.

If you are approaching from the wrong direction for the exit (or have inadvertently missed it), you can easily turn back at the first ‘cambio de sentido’ sign (see below). These are large, very visible and usually lead to roundabouts connected to under or overpasses which rejoin the main road on the opposite side. Don’t expect a lot of golf course early warning signs – since most of the main road is built-up, there is nowhere to put them. If you think you’re lost, pull off at a ‘cambio de sentido’ and find a shop or a local and ask the way. You can then rejoin the main road in whichever direction you need.

Nobody from any country in the western world will find any fundamental differences between southern Spanish society and the one they left behind. The real difference will probably be the climate, since few western countries outside the Mediterranean basin enjoy such a luxury. The people are, of course, different, and they speak a different language and have different customs, but it is the marked friendliness of the Andalusians, their gastronomy and their traditions – all different from ours - that prompt most people to come here in the first place. The climate on the Iberian Peninsula is generally stable, and as far as meteorological science permits, weather forecasts are reliable. The seasons are fairly predictable, with periods of rain in the Costa del Sol from the end of September to the end of November, and in March and April. Rain and sunshine can alternate on any given day during these periods, and it is rare to have rain falling for more than two or three days at a time.
The beaches on the Costa del Sol are largely sandy, but there are also many pebble beaches where foot-ware is advised. Tourists coming to the Costa del Sol in winter are advised to take umbrellas and raincoats, although such items can be purchased cheaply in local shops. Opening hours for shops tend to change from winter to summer. In general, summer shopping times are from 10 in the morning to 1.30 or 2 in the afternoon, and from 5.30 to 9 at night. In important tourist areas, many shops open later than nine in the morning, and remain open during siesta time and until quite late at night. Spanish law permits supermarkets to open on Sundays in large tourist areas during the summer period. Bars, restaurants and cafeterias have more flexible opening hours, generally in accordance with the requirements of their clients.
Public institutions and banks open only in the mornings, although more essential services may be available in the afternoons as well. The banks close on Saturdays only in summer, while savings banks (cajas de ahorros, to all practical purposes, similar to banks) always close on Saturdays. Health care is comprehensive on the Costa del Sol, with a complete network of hospitals and health centres all over the province of Malaga. Tourists from the European Union should carry the new European health card, which substitutes the old E-111 form. In any case, emergency treatment is immediate, with or without a card, which is necessary only for subsequent paperwork. Public safety in the province of Malaga, as in all of Spain, is in the hands of the National Police, the Guardia Civil, the Autonomous Police and the Local or Municipal Police. These police forces work together, and people with problems that require immediate police attention can call on any of them. The easiest way of calling the police is by phoning 091, the National Police number, or calling to any police station in person. English is the second language on the Costa del Sol, and it is spoken to some extent by most people in positions of authority in the province of Malaga, especially in the coastal areas. English is less widely spoken in the interior of the province, except in large towns or tourist areas. Tourism offices usually have personnel capable of communicating in English, French and German. Electrical current in Spain is 220 volts, and the electrical plug used is two-point. Adaptors must thus be used for any electrical appliance that does not use the two-point plug, and transformers must be used with appliances that use a different voltage. It is advisable to take these with you.
All Town Halls have a lost-objects department, although found objects are frequently handed in at the nearest police station. If handbags or wallets have been left in bars or restaurants, it is worth going back to check with the management: they generally keep them for a week or so before handing them over to the police. Given the cosmopolitan character of the Costa del Sol, there are places of worship for most major religions, with Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and other minority religious centres on the coast. Malaga hailed as top Costa destination
Spain has been listed as the “top” destination for UK tourists this year, with the Costa del Sol resort of Malaga featuring strongly in the spring holiday market. Managing editor at airport hotels and parking firm Holiday Extras Mike Whiting noted that the country has led the way for bookings in
this season, ahead of other popular countries like the US, France, Portugal, Egypt and Turkey. He added that Malaga is “a big player” within this market, something that may encourage those considering investing in property in the Spanish Costas. The Costa del Sol is set to benefit from a major clean-up of its coastal waters, it was revealed earlier this month.
Regional councillor for tourism in Andalucia Luciano Alonso unveiled a three-year plan to use 25 boats to clean up the waters, including the removal of foam, Typically Spanish reported. Four of the boats will concentrate on the area off the coast at Malaga.

The artists’ work will be on show in individual white tents and the festival will come alive with street performers, musicians, bars and hospitality areas.
With the backing of the Marbella Tourist Board, a series of key sponsors have come forward including FNAC, Royal Pianos and Coca-Cola. Meanwhile, Houses of Art Gallery are sponsoring a “young artist” prize, with an exhibition offered to the talented young contender. Prizes, donated by prestigious companies, will be awarded to the top three artists. The Spanish Armada Rides Again
Railway Rumours The long rumoured railway line between Estepona and Fuengirola has arisen yet again. Although this time it is the new President of the Junta of Andalusia, Jose Antonio Griñan, who has started the rumour. Contracts with two different companies are on offer, one for €817m and the other for €82m. First section will be to La Cala de Mijas which will have its very own underground railway station. Rather a far cry from La Cala de Mijas of over thirty years ago. There are also plans to continue the line all along the Coast as well as plans to place underground the existing suburban route which runs from the centre of Malaga to the airport. Eventually it is hoped there will be a railway line all along the Costa del Sol to Gibraltar and beyond.

Many of the “invincibles” of Spanish golf such as the likes of José María Cañizares, Pepín Rivero, Antonio Garrido and Manolo Piñero took part last month in a special Pro-Am competition in honour of that most invincible of Spanish golfers, Severiano Ballesteros. Held at the La Herreria golf course on the outskirts of Madrid the day was perfection itself in almost every way. The craic abounded, the weather was perfect, clear skies and light winds, the scenery spectacular with the famous El Escorial monastery in the background. There was even a hole in one, celebrated enthusiastically by one of the local
club members, Vicente Gil Saez, the first hole in one in his whole life, and what a day and in front of what an audience to do it on. All the players were welcomed to the club by Victor Garcia Ballesteros, father of Seve, and after the game there were special presentations and prizes. A special memorial plaque and signed photograph was also presented to Pedro Moran, a childhood friend of Seve Ballesteros. More good humour and much golfing chatter followed the presentations, with so many famous golfing professionals present there was a lot to say. Who won on the day? Who cared!
Living in Marbella this vacuum cleaner tycoon does not worry too much about the fine imposed however, a mere 3,600 Euros. But he might be concerned about his 10 month driving ban. The car concerned? A Ferrari California. This particular Ferrari can go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds so should be ideal for getting away from speed bumps. Starting price would be around 150,000 Euros.

Top German coach holds training camp at La Cala Resort facilities and was very complimentary about the level of organisation as many of his requests for his practice sessions were unique and they were all fulfilled to his satisfaction. Although La Cala is Spain’s largest golf resort with a total of 60 holes, Hasenbein said the group didn’t play much as it was a much more practice-orientated visit. “The players practised for four to six hours a day and then played nine holes. We identified early on the areas of their games that needed improvement and each student concentrated on those areas during the eight days. The reaction from all the group members was very positive and we hope to return to La Cala next year.”
One of the top German golf coaches, Martin Hasenbein, brought a group of 10 golfers for an eight-day long training camp at La Cala Resort in Mijas, Málaga in late April. Martin is the Head of Education with the PGA of Germany and is Head-Coach of Golf Team Germany, an elite group of German professionals who play on various tours.
Hasenbein says the idea behind the training trip to La Cala was for the students to practice like a professional. There was individual player analysis over two days and a lot of targeted practice sessions using Trackman and Sam Lab technology. He also held theoretical courses to improve strategy and technical aspects. He said he chose La Cala because of the practice

Restaurant Schilo is the hotly anticipated eponymous restaurant from celebrated Dutch Chef, Schilo Van Coevorden. Get the best deal for your next break The holiday business is changing rapidly and the main catalyst has been the explosion in cut-price airlines. Apart from lower fares, many people far prefer the convenience of flying from a smaller local airport with shorter check-in times. Larger established airlines have been forced to become much more competitive and, as a consequence, many would-be tourists are now putting together their own packages. Smaller specialist villa holiday companies, with lower overheads, are reporting good order books, whilst the larger traditional packagedeal operators are having to radically adjust. Many local golf specialists, as well as hotels, have negotiated extremely good green fee rates with the local courses - much better than individuals could ever hope to obtain. To take advantage of reduced green fees, as well as lower airline rates, it is necessary to book way in advance. Our advice is to explore the options whilst you are here or as soon as you get home.

This pledge means finding the best golf offers anywhere on the coast - from two players and a buggy for €78 (June-Oct.) - to unlimited golf memberships for a mere €99 per month (based on a 12 month contract), or just €49 for weekend golf based on the same terms. Renowned for their superb, consistent putting surfaces, the course features a wide variety of holes with some very strong par 3’s. The English owned golf course has for many years focused on the visiting golfer from overseas, with multilingual staff always offering a warm friendly welcome. The clubhouse has recently benefited from a €400,000 renovation, where a superb selection of multinational food, wine and drinks are available in the comfortable restaurant, bar and terrace.
Hole 1. Par 4. Hcp. 1 390m • 366m • 306m A good looking opening par 4, slight dog leg left, downhill. You must keep your drive to the right of the bunker which will leave a short to mid Iron in for your second off a flat lie. Longer hitters will be left with a short Iron in off a sloping lie to a large green. Hole 2. Par 5. Hcp. 13 440m • 430m • 380m Long Par 5 with a large slope from left to right with out of bounds running down the right. Keep the tee shot left and you will be left with a long 2nd off a sloping lie to a large fairway lay up area and then a short third shot, uphill to a well bunkered flat green, tends to play into the wind. Hole 3. Par 4. Hcp. 7 380m • 375m • 355m Stunning views from the elevated tee area across the course and out to sea. A short par 4 but generally into the prevailing wind. Club selection is key on the second shot and is made harder by the fact that the green sits well below the level of the second shot. Again a large flat surface and well bunkered. Hole 4. Par 4. Hcp. 15 290m • 271m • 237m We’d recommend a long iron or small wood to place the ball in the middle of the fairway aiming slightly left and allowing the gentle slope take the ball towards the middle. You are then faced with a short Iron to a well bunkered raised green. Fairly straight forward par 4 and a definite birdie chance for the low handicapper.

Hole 5. Par 3. Hcp. 17 157m • 144m • 134m Lovely short par 3 elevated tee looking over a large well bunkered green. Take one club less then you think, aim well, keep your head steady and par should appear on the score card. Hole 6. Par 5. Hcp. 5 449m • 432m • 405m Short par 5. Easy tee shot to a wide open fairway, only trouble is if you go too far right with a small water hazard placed that side. The second shot is more difficult as the closer you get to the green the narrower the fairway becomes. Longer hitters will be enticed to have a go in two. Small elevated green with large bunker placed left and right so a tight landing area. The greens on the whole course are normally in first class condition and quick. This particular green slopes from right to left so you could be left with a tricky speedy putt or two. Hole 7. Par 3. Hcp. 11 174m • 156m • 131m Good par 3 of average distance again well bunkered and a lot of dead ground in front of the green so take one more club then you think, again large slope running right to left across the green. You should aim for the right half of the green and allow the slope to do the rest, too far left of the green and you will have to reload as a ditch and the out of bounds awaits. A par 3 here is always a good score here for any level of golfer. Hole 8. Par 4. Hcp. 9 360m • 325m • 312m Short par 4 made more difficult by the fact that it is uphill for the first part so many balls are
killed by the slope leaving a longer distance into the green then the yardage suggests, hit at least one more club than you think. Once on top a flat generous fairway awaits with a large sloping green to aim at. Two putts always good here as the green has many large breaks and from some areas make it is almost impossible to 2 putt. Hole 9. Par 3. Hcp. 3 327m • 307m • 236m Interesting short dogleg par 4, aim right off the tee and allow the bank on the right to kick the ball back to the centre. This is a narrow fairway with a large bunker on the left. A good tee shot may still leave a blind 2nd shot to a raised sloping green where again a 2 putt would be very welcomed do not go long of the pin as any putt or chip shot will be incredibly
difficult to control and get close as the combination of green pace and slope will give you mental images of the Augusta National. I have had and seen many a 4 putt on this one. Hole 10. Par 4. Hcp. 18 267m • 247m • 235m The signature hole is a beautiful downhill short par 4 with the green surrounded by water. The tee shot is very straight forward if you choose to play safe with just a mid iron to the middle of a large fairway area, however you may feel that at only 250 meters downhill and the wind behind that it is worth having a go with 3 wood or driver. A straight one will make an eagle/birdie very possible - but just slightly out and you are looking at a 6. Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!

Hole 11. Par 5. Hcp. 8 475m • 455m • 437m Nice par 5 tee shot over a little water to a raised fairway keep it left and allow the slope to carry the ball into the middle which will leave a straight forward second shot to a generous fairway leaving a short 3rd to a raised well bunkered green. Longer hitters will feel that this offers a good birdie opportunity. Hole 12. Par 4. Hcp. 16 313m • 275m • 253m Short Par 4 wide open fairway, keep left and you will be left with a short 2nd shot in to a narrow green. This sounds easy but do not be fooled by the distance and lack of hazards as the fun begins on the green. Being narrow and elevated it is always difficult to get your second close to the hole and the tendency is to go long leaving a treacherous quick down hill putt or chip. 4 here is a good score but you always feel like you should have done better... Hole 13. Par 4. Hcp. 2 345m • 320m • 284m A truly great looking golf hole, all uphill with a stunning mountain back drop. It plays its entire yardage and more, wide open fairway but again a difficult second club selection is everything here as anything beyond the hole will make for a stressful time. The green
slopes a lot from back to front and tends to be very quick. A par always a good score here. Hole 14. Par 3. Hcp. 4 190m • 171m • 139m One of the most beautiful and difficult par 3 you will see anywhere. The Sierra Bermeja Mountain range sits behind and out of bounds runs all the way down the left hand side of the hole. A narrow but long green awaits a great shot, however it has two tiers and is very quick so the fun is not over once you hit the green. Not many birdies here, par is a very good score for any level of player. Hole 15. Par 4. Hcp. 10 335m • 323m • 315m Nice par 4 elevated tee looking down a slight left to right dog leg. A feature of the hole is an enormous rock placed in the middle of the fairway which marks out the perfect line. A good tee shot will leave a mid to short iron in to the green but invariably it will be off a downhill slope making club selection difficult. A generous sized green awaits a good second. Hole 16. Par 3. Hcp. 14 185m • 165m • 152m Another good looking par 3 with a large sloping green surrounded by 3 large bunkers. Out of bounds runs the full length of the hole
on the right hand side. A well struck mid to long Iron should find you in the middle of the green with a straight forward 2 putt to follow. Hole 17. Par 5. Hcp. 6 512m • 502m • 482m A long par 5 that normally plays into the prevailing wind. The elevated tee makes it even more venerable to the wind. Wide open fairway with no hazards only the slope from right to left. Raised green with large bunker short and left. The high banks and slopes surround the green and tend to throw the ball towards the green, fairly straight forward to this point but then you see all the dangers in the green it self Large slopping green from right to left and front to back making it very difficult to 2 putt indeed. Hole 18. Par 4. Hcp. 12 304m • 292m • 280m A short par 4 on paper, but do not let that fool you as it requires some sound planning. A long iron or small wood is the best tool as accuracy is paramount - OB runs all down the right hand side and it has a narrow fairway. The second looks very inviting to the largest green on the course, but again it has a twist as depending on the pin placement the green holds many subtle breaks and it is easy to 3 putt. Full concentration required, don’t let complacency ruin your score right at the end of your round.

Wentworth BMW PGA Championship Despite starting so well the Spanish contingent at the Wentworth BMW PGA Championship could not sustain their early challenge in the competition. Top Spanish place, 11th, went to Gonzalo FernandezCastano who managed to birdie the last hole of the tournament for a round of 68, and thus earning just enough points to move up 11 spots in the world rankings and squeeze into his first U.S. Open without having to go through the qualifying rounds.
Although leading after the first round Gonzalo had a disastrous second round of 77 to effectively put him out of any further contention in the competition. Both Alvaro Quiros and Miguel Angel Jimenez also started well, with a 69 and 68 respectively, however both fell away drastically in succeeding rounds. Gonzalo Fernandez came relatively late to the world of professional golf. Born in 1980 Gonzlalo preferred to finish his university studies before the launch of his golfing career. Apart from Severiano Ballesteros he is the only Spaniard to win three victories in his first three years on the European Tour. In comparison to his late start on the professional tour however Gonzalo’s first golf swings took place at the age of four when he accompanied his father at the Real Club de Golf in Madrid. After winning the Dutch KLM Open in 2005 he was made rookie of the year, only the third Spaniard to achieve this honour. In 2006 he was second in the Volvo China Open and a week later won the BMW Asian Open. During the past two years Gonzalo has gradually been improving his position in the world rankings as well as improving his position in the business world of golf. Nowadays he divides his time between playing and running the company he founded, GFC Golf and Business, a company dedicated to the organization of golfing and sporting events.

Smokey Mt Choir Marbella Smokey Mountain is the name given to a rubbish dump. The people live there by scavenging, and as the name of the places suggests, it is rubbish that they scavenge. But people really means families, mother and fathers and their children. If they are lucky they might make as much as two dollars per day. And food scraps get eaten of course, that which the rats don’t get first. Pollution is rife in the area, as is disease. You name it and the people living there seem to get it, especially the children. Smokey Mountain and the people who live there was first introduced to the Costa del
Sol in May of last year. Since then various charitable events have been organised and the children of Smokey Mountain have even formed their own choir. Their song and videos can be seen here. http://tinyurl.com/oh63oq The next charitable event for the children of Smokey Mountain will be on July 2, 2009 at The Tamisa Golf Hotel. The evening is lined up with lots of very special treats. A group of amazing kids from the Costa del Sol called the Smokey Mt choir will be singing one of the special songs that was written about Smokey Mt. called “Paraiso”. There will also be an incredible kid called Shaun Walsh, he is flying
over from the UK... he will blow your socks off! Billy Bean, one of the most famous comedians from the UK is also flying over for this event. Please contact Anne-Mette on 699702983 if you should require any further information about this event and the children of Smokey Mountain. We really need your help and support.

The topography of the terrain in Alcaidesa Links consists of rolling hillsides sloping gently to the sea and ending in a stunningly beautiful beach. It has almost 2 km of beachfront. A considerable number of its holes lie next to the beach, between sand dunes only partially covered by vegetation. The course has an uninterrupted 18-hole round beginning at the first hole by the Clubhouse and not returning to the latter until the 18th, also located by the Clubhouse. The difficulty on the course mainly concerns the prevailing winds in the area. One of the peculiarities that most impresses the visitor are the spectacular views of the Mediterranean, the Straits of Gibraltar and North Africa, and the unobstructed views of the sea from virtually any location on the course.
The New Clubhouse Standing majestically on the highest point of the resort offering unbeatable views, the avantgarde architecture and 3000m² surface area has set a new benchmark - a fine example of how to blend space and the Andalusian style. The design the Clubhouse takes into account the spectacular surroundings of Alcaidesa. Open to the countryside, it is a perfect combination of tradition and modernity. Elements from local Andalusian architecture create a pleasant space for visitors to enjoy both the scenery and tasty local cuisine.

Golf Academy & Driving Range Future golfers practise their art at our Golf Academy whilst the experienced players work at improving their game. Private and group classes are available in several different languages, covering beginners, experienced players or those wishing to obtain licences. There are even special courses for children. The driving range has 72 booths, half of which are roofed, and a large practice area with putting green, bunkers and pitching area. The range is 110 m wide, and a length of 310 m caters for the longest of hitters.
Apart from the classic Links-type course, which has been Alcaidesa’s flagship since 1992, since 2007 there is a new Heathland one, which recovers the gently undulating landscape and typical groves of the area. Thanks to Dave Thomas, the famous golf course designer, this golf course is now the best setting for any type of golf championship. The new course designed by Dave Thomas Ltd offers a variety of natural landscapes ranging from the plateau area (holes 1 to 5 & 17th & 18th) where the course has the feel of a Heathland course with wide fairways & outstanding views of the Mediterranean sea & the local mountain ranges, including the sierra Nevada, to the river valley where the holes meander along the valley & incorporate various water features/hazards.

Bolero : Enjoy an extensive Spanish menu with a touch of genuine Mediterranean flavour. Dine out on the moonlit terraces. Bar Jerez : A meeting point for, members and visitors alike, who may enjoy a morning coffee, an afternoon snack or an evening drink on the terrace which looks on to the Old Course.
Designed by Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros the New Course opened in 2003, since then it has blossomed into a mature and well respected course which can hold court with the best of them in the area. Celebrating its first European Tour tournament after only 3 years – the Spanish Open 2006 - the course has already won a multitude of fans the world over. The design depicts a links course in many holes and it also has many unique Dye features which is rare for a European course. It is a challenge for scratch and low handicap golfers, but with five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course, it is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. Nevertheless, the course is designed to reward canny tactics and skilful drive placement. Water hazards guard four of the greens, also defended by more than 100 bunkers.

Almenara is a truly glorious and unspoilt 27-hole complex divided between Los Lagos (The Lakes), Los Pinos (The Pines) and Los Alcornoques (The Oaks) - each very special for their individuality. The greens are usually very quick, which can require some creative thinking and feel to navigate. Los Lagos is a stunning part of the course and a true test of golf. As you would expect from the name, water comes in to play on four of the holes. Los Pinos begins with a Par 5 leading straight downhill before winding its way through a series of superb holes more representative of a parkland course. This provides a good contrast to Los Lagos, yet retains the need for excellent course management. Los Alcornoques is perhaps the most exposed to the elements of the three sides, and mixes up a selection of holes to test your nerve and accuracy.
Signature Holes Each of the nine holes has it’s own unique character and standout holes - whichever you play, you won’t be disappointed. The tricky par 3, 7th on Los Lagos is a challenge rewarded by its setting - a long iron or wood over a lake to the green which is protected by a bunker at the front. On Los Alcornoques, club selection is vital at both Par 3’s - depending on the wind the whole character of this course can change. The Par 4, 7th requires a solid drive before a second shot over a stream which cuts diagonaly between the fairway and green. One of our favourites!

The play from the tee is to drive the ball towards the bunkers on the left, but to make the second shot easier you can flirt with the water and benefit from being able to fire your approach at the flag with slightly less concern. There are no bonuses for going right however, so anything to the left side of the green is more than acceptable!
The 6,000 m2 Clubhouse has been designed in the purest Andalusian style. It has areas for the exclusive use of members, like the exceptionally large changing rooms, gymnasium, lounges and other member-only facilities. The interior has been very carefully thought out, with handmade wrought-iron fittings and hand woods, lending a rustic and refined ambience. The restaurant has been influenced by the hand of the catering consultant, Ferrán Adriá, of NH Hotels, and the Club´s kitchen staff have been trained at the “El Bulli” catering workshop.

Having received numerous awards, Valderrama is widely recognised as being the best course in Europe and one of the top golf courses in the world. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 1996. In 1997 the Club hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain. In 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively.

Signature Holes Hole 4. La Cascada. Par 5. 516m. Robert Trent Jones classified this hole as one of his best par 5s, and described it as a delight to the eye. From the first landing area you look up towards a green that is about 120 feet long and 40 feet wide. Behind it, a spring sends water cascading down along the right side of the green, finally falling about 10 to 12 feet into a lake that sits to the right of the green. Hole 17. Los Gabiones. Par 5. 490m. From a good driver, the second shot presents the player with a tantalising question: do you try to carry the water for a possible birdie or eagle, or lay up?

The final hole is long, with a slight incline and has the widest fairway on the course. Out of bounds on the left should not come into play. Although it does not appear to be very much uphill on the second shot, it is rare to see people over this green.
RCG Sotogrande is often voted to be among the top ten golf courses in Europe – and rightly so. “Sotogrande Old”, as it is called by the locals, boasts mature vegetation with pine, cork oaks, eucalyptus and giant palm trees enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings. The greens are large with typical Trent Jones contours - and the tees are very long, some would say excessively so, but they allow for variations in pin placement and the length of hole.

The seventh is widely considered the best on the course. It doglegs to the left with out of bounds on the same side. The drive should be played slightly right of centre. A precise second shot is required to a narrow, well-guarded green. Any shot bouncing on the left edge of the green will kick towards the centre, so favour this side and stay dry!
Founded in 1964, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is located on prime golfing land close to the beachfront between the river Guadiaro and Sotogrande marina. Anyone lucky enough to have played at one of Spain’s foremost members’ clubs will be able to confirm Robert Trent Jones was right to take pride in what is an extraordinarily good design.

The only municipal course on the Costa del Sol, and a key factor in the fact that the town of Guadiaro produces more Spanish champions than any other place in the country. The front nine is relatively new, opening in 2001, and was designed by Dave Thomas. The back nine is the original nine holes designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1982. The signature hole is the 18th which is played over the dramatic La Cañada gully. You will enjoy views to the Rio Guadiaro, Mediterranean and Valderrama. The course has excellent irrigation and drainage facilities, so is always in very good condition. This is a popular course with a large membership. The variety of the holes, and dramatic views of the countryside make La Canada a delight to play.

Signature Holes La Canada’s final three holes are a pure joy. The 16th travels dramatically downhill as it wends its way among a tapestry of trees until it reaches the green. The par-3 17th will doubtless cause havoc to many a player’s card. Although measuring just 135-metres this short hole provides the original “all duck or no dinner” tee shot. Just when you think it can get no more difficult the 18th tee provides a spectacle which is sure to cause a further tightening of the tummy muscles. The drive on this 338m hole has to carry about 180m before it arrives out onto the fairway; anything less will require a re-load and three off the tee, and so on!

The 4th, 5th and 6th holes are known as AMEN CORNER, with a stroke index of 1, 7 and 3 respectively. An outstanding hole is the spectacular par 3 17th, stroke index 16. The wind force will affect your approach, you could play a 7 iron, a pitching wedge or a sand wedge, for this 108m shot. The views on the Africa and the Mediterranean are truly spectacular. Only the 10th and 18th have water hazards, and a total of only 45 bunkers does not make things too difficult for the player. Even the trees, mainly olive, pine and palm do not obstruct the course to any great extent.
Known as Robert Trent Jones’ hidden treasure, La Duquesa is one of the Costa del Sol’s most spectacular and varied courses. With long fairways, the front and back nines offer two distinctly different challenges. The first nine holes are what some refer to as ‘English-style’, with narrow fairways and high greens. The fourth hole, with its magnificent views, is particularly beautiful - but it can easily cause trouble on your scorecard. The second nine are easier, with wide fairways, although the greens present additional difficulties, providing spectacular views over Duquesa Port, to the mountains and Gibraltar. On the fifteenth the view even stretches as far as Marbella.

Dona Julia is a new 18 hole, par 71 layout designed by the famous designer Antonio Garcia Garrido. It is set within a huge new development by Casares in the West of the Costa del Sol. The front seven holes go up into the hills with fantastic views of the sea (particularly from the highest part of the course on the 8th tee). Then the back 11 proceed to come down the hill giving a different perspective entirely from the front 7 holes. What you notice about Dona Julia is the overall quality of the course, everything is just how it should be and the fairways are spotless. The greens likewise and they are huge. In all an excellent course for the money and sure to be a firm favourite because although it is tough it is also fair so should suit all levels of golfer. After the game wander into T’s Bar. Newly opened by Stuart. Relax and enjoy drinks and food on their sunny terrace.
Signature Holes Toughest hole: 10th. Par 4, 405 metres. Stroke index 1 hole and rightly so. Tee off over a valley to a small fairway that runs from left to right in front of you. If you do mange to find the fairway, you have a long second to the large green with water to the right, slicers beware!! Best Par 3: 12th, 176 metres. Long and to a raised green, the hole sits between 2 large mounds on either side so looks very sheltered. Be straight and long enough and you have a great chance of par but pull it left or push it right and you will struggle on this hole.

The prettiest hole of the course, and one of the prettiest of the Costa del Sol, is the 8th, as acknowledged by the majority of the Club’s members. This may be due to the fact that it is a hole for recovery - it measures 298 metres, is completely straight and the green is surrounded by vegetation. The stylish clubhouse is a great place to relax in the bar, or out on the terrace.

Toughest hole: Without doubt the par 5 7th that demands a long and straight drive if attempting to hit the green in 2. Out of bounds on both sides of the fairway and water in front of the green add to the difficulty of the hole. The majority of golfers will lay up to the right with their second shot to give themselves a wedge onto the green but a tough hole in every aspect.
The objective of the course at Casares is to entertain - and it does this very successfully. Its 9 holes are spread out with a varied design over the flat terrain of a valley and stand out for their fairways, on which precision is one of the keys to a good game. With three par 3’s and one par 5, the course offers golfers the possibility of playing all sorts of shots. The course is not overly long - the par 5, 7th is the longest at 472 m, whereas the 4th hole is the shortest.

Signature Hole Hole 10. Par 4.

La Resina
Situated in the beautiful Resina estate lies the sublime short course of La Resina. The 9 hole layout is made up of 2 par fours and 7 par 3’s. However don’t be fooled into thinking that you will have a round full of birdies and pars, as this course is challenging with a varied terrain of hills, lakes and extreme rough to overcome. Common to all the holes is the quality of the greens. As the greenkeepers come from Valderrama they are in sublime condition, and run perfectly true. We would highly recommend this course for all who want a nice quick 9 or 18 holes, or to all who want to improve their short game. Also a great course for beginners or high handicappers looking to improve their game before moving onto the larger courses. In all great fun and extremely good value for the Costa del Sol.
Signature Holes 3rd. Par 3, 133 metres. Stroke index 7 but we found it much tougher. The hole runs right over a gully with huge rough and has out of bounds to the left and behind the hole. If you hit the green you still have a lot of work to do as the green is on 2 levels and runs fairly steeply up from front to back. Two putting from anywhere outside 15 feet is good. 9th. Par 4, 224 metres yellow, 187 metres red. You tee off from high above the green, and with the clubhouse, lake and sea views behind the hole it is extremely pretty but also a lot of fun to approach the green in front of the clubhouse.

There are few better indications of quality than the honour of hosting a major event in your inaugural year and this was what happened at Flamingos. The Dr Antonio Garcia Garrido designed layout welcomed the European Senior PGA 2002 Championship final, and again in 2003 and 2004. With spectacular views of the sea and mountains, Africa and Gibraltar, a large natural lake around which the whole resort has been built and luxuriant vegetation, this course is one you’ll also want to keep coming back to. Each of the 18 holes represents the garden of a Tuscan Villa, where you will find Roman columns, classical statues and marble bridges on the fairways and corners of the course. Each hole is also defined by its own tree: cypress, orange, nisper, jacaranda, pine, olive, chestnut, pomegranate and many more.
Signature Holes Hole 7: Par 4 with stunning, panoramic views of this unique place. The player can either use a driver to reach the green’s surroundings, or a shorter shot to leave the ball near the flag. A definite birdie hole. Hole 10: A special jewel; an absolutely beautiful Par 4, and from a strategic point of view one of the best holes on the course Hole 18: Par 4. Teeing off from high above the fairway one can see the entire hole, that features a lake on the right side and a beautiful green at the end. Without doubt one of the best designed holes.

Signature Holes Hole 3: Par 3. A daunting 197 meters from the yellow tees, and a carry of around 167 meters over a ravine protects the green. All you have and more. Hole 14: Par 3. An inviting Par 3 but club selection is vital, anything slightly right will put you into a water hazard, whilst a small stream runs down the whole of the left side. Hole 18: Par 4. The amazing closing hole brings in the fantastic views of The Rock of Gibraltar, The tee shot has to be precise with a carry of 135 meters over a gorge to reach the fairway.
Alferini Golf Course (that used to be Gran Flamingo Golf Course) is, without a doubt, the star project, since it was inaugurated in 2007. It has been a real challenge for its designer, D. Cristóbal Guerrero. The specialist press has deemed it a golf course for large competitions because of its length and the technical skill it demands. Set out between the mountains and with magnificent views of the sea and the Resort, this par-73 layout extends to almost 7,000 metres along fairways lined by pines, orange trees, cypresses and holm oaks. It is a glorious place to play golf. Blessed by superb drainage, it’s also perfect all year-round. Completing the picture is the Tuscan style 5 star Hotel Villa Padierna which sits overlooking this incredible resort.

Designed by Gary Player, El Paraiso was opened in 1973 and is one of the oldest established courses on the coast. For more than twenty years it has been a mecca of golf, whether you are a low handicap or just wanting to enjoy a round of golf on your holiday, the course offers golfers of all ages and abilities an exciting challenge.
Hole 6. Par 5. • 442m • 435m • 383m
The setting is incomparable - lush fairways are punctuated by meandering streams, flanked by palm trees and an abundance of exotic fauna, including oleander, jacaranda and mimosas. Lakes provide a home for waterbirds and the golf balls of the unwary! Without doubt El Paraiso Golf Club is a well designed course that golfers will never tire of playing and will look forward to returning for another chance to conquer!
The drive has to be accurate to avoid two well positioned bunkers, left and right, and your second shot must favour the left centre of the fairway to miss the lake that catches any wayward ball.
With many good golf holes to choose from, without doubt the 6th, a dogleg left par 5, must be the best hole on the course.
Finally, your approach has again to be accurate, to a two tiered green, to give you any chance of that elusive birdie.

Created in 1968, Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, the 1925 German Golf Championships winner who became his country’s finest golf course architect of the time. With its wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers of all levels. Elegant and mature with spectacular views of the magnificent La Concha mountain, it is the perfect oasis of tranquillity on the otherwise bustling and vibrant Costa del Sol. Its apparently benign parkland aspect with gently sloping fairways makes it an ideal course for the average club golfer - but plentiful bunkers filled with sparkling ‘marmolina’ sand, fast greens, lush vegetation and fairways lined with olive, pine, cactus and eucalyptus trees prove a challenge for single-figure players as well.
Signature Holes With so many great holes to choose from, picking some out comes down to individual preference. We think that the opening stretch is beautifully crafted and sets the rhythm for the round. The first hole is a fairly short par 4 which gets things off to a nice gentle start - before being faced with a deceivingly tough par 3 where club selection is crucial to hit a well bunkered green. The third hole is a long par 4 that often plays into the wind, making reaching the green in two a task in itself. This is followed by another well designed par 4 where good position from the tee is essential to have a chance of hitting the green in regulation.

Course Information New Course: 18 holes, Par 71 5142m • 5044m • 4356m Handicap: Men 28, Ladies 36 Requirements: Soft spikes only Facilities: Buggies, Trolleys, Electric trolleys, Driving Range, Practice areas, Golf lessons, Kiosk, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Bar
Signature Holes There are plenty of scoring opportunities on the New Course, with a solid mix of holes and lengths. The par 4 opening hole sets off from the middle of the Old Course, and requires an accurate drive with trees protecting either side. Doing so will leave a short iron into a raised green. Two of the best par 3’s you will come across on any golf course are the 4th - teeing off with a mid-iron from a raised platform over the lake - and the 13th, a long iron or wood to a two tiered green with a steep bank on the left. Par on either of these exceptional holes is a good score. The long par 5 finishing hole will either make or break your score.
Atalaya New Course offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Gibraltar and is seen as one of the most natural courses on the coast. Created in 1990 by Paul Krings, the New Course is set further inland, but has a similar parkland feel about it - with gently undulating fairways and large, fast greens. It would be fair to say that, in general, hazards are obvious but still manage to trap the unwary. Care is needed off the tees and the wild hitter will soon encounter difficulties. The New Course is rapidly catching up with the Old in terms of quality and in the summer months there are great bargains to be had for the holiday golfer. Atalaya Golf & Country Club International also offers splendid practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, six short game areas and three putting greens.

In 2008 His Majesty Juan Carlos I King of Spain awarded Guadalmina with the Royal Appointment, for fifty years of Golf in a mature but always young and very friendly Club. Over the last fifty years Real Club de Golf Guadalmina has hosted very important tournaments such as the Spanish Championship in 1965; the qualifying school tournament for the European PGA in 1995 and 1996; and the PGA championship in 1998.
South Course This is the oldest course of the Gualdalmina complex. It was designed by Javier Arana in 1959 and is renowned for its difficulty, making it more suitable for experienced players. Fairways are narrow and well protected by old trees, therefore requiring good straight shots.
Established in 1959, today Guadalmina offers 17 different nationalities with more than 2.000 members, and one of the best social scenes along the Costa del Sol. Guadalmina has two 18 hole golf courses and a par 3 nine hole golf course, a covered driving range for 40 players and a chipping and putting green. The South course was virtually rebuilt in 2002, with new tees, greens, and the fairways re-laid with turf.
North Course Designed by Folco Nardi in 1973, this course runs almost parallel to its southern “brother”, and is shorter and hillier with more water obstacles. The course requires straight drives down the middle of the fairways as failure to do so may find one of the numerous water hazards hidden in the rough.

Course Information 18 holes, Par 71 5652m • 5354m • 4800m Handicap: Men 28, Ladies 36 Requirements: Soft spikes only Facilities: Buggies, Driving range, Putting green, Clubhouse, Restaurant
Signature Holes Hole 3: Par 3. 193m •165m • 109m Probably one of the best Par 3’s on the Costa del Sol. Very intimidating, but a good shot slightly on the right of the Pin will take you safely home. If not, dropping zone, close to the green. Hole 4: Par 5. 425m • 419m • 391m A drive then a dilemma: do you go for the green - Glory or Misery - or do you lag your second shot on to the intermediary plateau? Then, to go to the green, you will pas across a lovely rustic bridge and discover the glorious waterfall cascading over natural marble stone.
Monte Mayor Golf opened in 1989. Designed by José Cancedo, this is a fantastic and challenging Golf Course known as one of the most spectacular on the Costa del Sol. The Golf course is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The valley in which Monte Mayor is laid out clings to the slope of Monte Mayor. The ruins of a 10th Century Moorish Fort crown the summits of Monte Mayor. Monte Mayor’s Fairways are of Bermuda 419. The driving range is breathtaking. Buggies are included with the Green Fee. Starting times every 15 minutes. Amongst the Pros, Alex Cejka, the course record holder (66), practiced a lot here and enjoyed to work all his shots at Monte Mayor. Monte Mayor is frequently voted into the Top 5 as a golf experience not to be missed.

18 is a 495m par 5 that starts from a spectacular high tee. The hardest thing about this amazing tee shot is not to get distracted by the magnificent views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa. Your drive will hang in the air forever and if it lands on the fairway you may have a chance to reach the green in two. The brave will take on a long second shot with a wood to a well bunkered green whereas the strategic will lay up and try to make their birdie with a well placed wedge into this large, well contoured green. Framed by the quaint thatched clubhouse and a large ornamental lake, this is truly a great way to finish a spectacular and fun days golf.
The Club offers golf of the most exclusive nature. With start times on average 30 mins apart, over-crowded rounds are not a concern and morning tee times are guaranteed. Players need only concentrate on their game and enjoy a superb day of golf that meets the expectations of the most demanding fans of the sport.

Signature Hole Hole 4. Par 5. • 489m • 467m • 443m • 394m Featuring one of the most picturesque green settings on the Costa del Sol, this downhill dogleg right hole follows the sweeping contours of the fairway, turning to reveal a peninsula green nestled by the lakeside. An accurate drive is required if the player is to successfully reach the green in two. Played to reach in regulation, good judgement of distance with a short iron could equally set up a birdie opportunity, though water is a factor if the pin is placed back right.
Built and maintained to the highest standards, this full length par 36, 9 hole layout is an absolute joy to play. Always perfectly manicured and with incredible putting surfaces, designer Roderick Segar has shown a great understanding and sympathy of the gently undulating terrain on which the course sits. Water forms an integral part of the course - with man-made lakes that are defined by their stylish black slate surrounds contrasting with the breathtakingly beautiful natural lake which comes into play on the 4th and 5th holes. Quick, true greens are up there with the best, and give the opportunity for the greenkeepers to put in some devilish pin positions due to the combination of slopes and hazards. But this course is perfect for golfers of any level, either for a quick 9 holes, or trying to better your score with another trip round.

Los Arqueros Golf is in an enviable mountain setting with magnificent views over the Andalusian hills and the Mediterranean. It was the first golf course to be designed by Severiano Ballesteros on the Costa del Sol in 1991. As the designer himself says, Los Arqueros is a good course for players of all kinds - a reasonable challenge for the average golfer and a tough test for professionals.

Hole 3 - Par 4, 361m: Possibly one of the most beautiful holes on the course, with a large lake and raised green. Hole 13 - Par 5, 458m: Considered the best hole on the course with wonderful views over the Mediterranean. Complicating matters is a stream running along the right side. Problem-free green.

La Quinta Golf Club has 27 holes, divided in 3 courses of 9 holes, which can be combined to have more playing options. Each are integrated in the natural surroundings of the area, from which one can view the Mediterranean sea and the mountains that encircle Marbella. Course A, San Pedro, has open fairways and short yardage, therefore, woods and long irons are mainly used in this course. Course B, Ronda, a fabulous course with narrow fairways and more difficult greens. Surrounded by amazing houses and villas from the Spanish high society, this uphill course leads to the Ronda mountains. Finally, Course C, Guadaiza, although easier than course B, there are many slopes and a few dog legs. There is also La Quinta Golf Academy - equipped with the most modern facilities, such as the digital swing analysis system.
Quality & Service The landscaping and the course quality together with the quality of the services are the main objectives of the renovation project that the club has been working on for the last three years. The quality is also clearly shown in the services offered by the club. A good example is the interval between each tee-time, which has been amplified for the comfort and benefit of the players - and the club has also incorporated a Bag Drop service in order to simplify the check-in process from the moment the player arrives to club parking until they are on the first tee.

The fourth is possibly one of the best Par 3’s on the coast, with a green guarded by a small river and big bunkers to the left, right and behind. The ninth is a challenging Par 4 dog-leg left. From a solid tee shot you still have a long iron to the green - bogey here is a good result!
Noted for its beautiful clubhouse, welcoming atmosphere and large orange groves. The Los Naranjos greens are firm and fast, recently renewed they feature A4 Agrostis bent grass. The fairways and tees are Bermuda 328, an ideal surface for a warm climate. The tees are terraced and long with expansive fairways on the front nine, and big undulating greens.

Los Naranjos is one of Spains best golf courses. World famous golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. considered it one of his finest European designs and it is indeed a true Championship course. Measuring 6.500 meters from the professional tees it features wide fairways, strategically placed hazards and large undulating greens. Suitable for all levels of players, Los Naranjos is firmly established as one of Spain’s most popular golf courses, welcoming visitors all year round.

The famous finishing hole is a long par 5, with the clubhouse behind the green. Before reaching the green there are several problems to handle - not least the lakes to be crossed before you can finally hole out.

Magna Café has already become an institution with descerning visitors to the Costa del Sol and residents alike. Stylish surroundings, quality creative food & wine, breath-taking views and a ideal location make it a great place to be.
The clubhouse is elegantly furnished with a cosy atmosphere, and houses the excellent Magna Cafe featuring a terrace that overlooks the golf course, which is usually in immaculate condition. The greens are Magna Marbella’s pride and joy - irrigated with water which is distilled via their own plant. This will ensure that they are well protected from disease and should be in perfect condition whenever you visit. If you only have time to get a quick round in, enjoying Magna’s nine green jewels could prove an ideal way to spend it.

Founded by D. José Banús in 1968, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas aspires to be the private club of choice for those who appreciate an exceptional golf experience in an inviting social environment. Their focus is to provide excellent service, well maintained facilities, superb dining and a variety of social events and recreational activities for the benefit of members and their guests. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, every hole at Real Club de Golf Las Brisas has been carefully considered to be both pleasing to the eye and capable of challenging even the most experienced player. Numerous water hazards and prudent bunkering combine with subtle dog-legs to suggest careful planning and good shot making is required in order to achieve the lowest scores.
Flaura and Fauna Perfectly complementing the design of the golf course is the harmonious landscaping created by Englishman Gerald Huggan. Much like a botanical garden, plants and trees from all the continents of the world fill the course with imagination and colour. Here you will find rare species from Africa such as the Cape Chestnut and Spiny Acacias, the Indian Laurel and Mysore Ficus from Asia, Chorisia Spciosa from America, the Green Ash from Mexico, and the Whistling Pine from Australia combined with numerous palms and Mediterranean trees.

Overall there’s a wide mix of holes, characterised by mostly wide fairways - although you’ll have big problems if you stray either side of them. All the holes have highly individual, apt names. The second, for instance, is called ‘Uresandi’, the Baroque word for a lot of water - and three lakes certainly is a lot of water. The eleventh is Las Aguilas (Eagles) as the hole is so close to the mountain that twitchers may catch sight of one. Although the club is private, visitors are welcome all year. It’s advisable to telephone in advance - this course is very popular.

Many will choose to play an iron from the tee for position and take their chances for a birdie on the subtle contours of the green. From the elevated tee, water impedes the narrow landing area of the fairway on the right, with a bunker protecting the green at the front. A back pin position will take some creative shot making and spin control in order to get close.
Most visiting golfers have heard of Aloha, it’s one of the best known courses on the Costa del Sol. Like many of the other older ones it has seen substantial improvements in recent years, particularly the replanting of the fairways and a general upgrading of the clubhouse and changing rooms.

Signature Holes Hole 5. Par 4. 387m • 383m • 343m A tough par 4 where the Rio Real river is in play. The tee shot is driven away from the Mediterranean sea with the prevailing wind coming from your left. Going down the right side of the fairway leaves a shorter second, but a grassy knoll slightly impedes the view to the green from here. The putting surface is nestled amongst the trees on the other side of the river, which is a genuine hazard. A lay up area is provided for those who require three (or more!) shots to get there.
This course has been in existence for over fifty years and was named after the Real river, which comes into play on several of the fairways. It’s a scenic course even though it is, on the whole, flat. Inaugurated in 1965, designed by Javier Arana, this magnificent 18-hole par 72 golf course is set in a beautiful sloping valley with challenging greens. On the par 4 tenth don’t worry if you don’t reach the dogleg on the fairway with the first shot - nobody is perfect! Choose your second shot to the green - if you play short it will be much easier. If you decide to go for it - over the pines and hill - hold your breath until fellowplayers audibly confirm your success. The par 5 thirteenth is the longest and most spectacular hole. Imitate Tiger Woods by reaching the green in three strokes if you can.

Making customers feel happy about handing over their hard earned euros is one of the most difficult achievements to attain in business, but is something that Santa Clara manages on a daily basis. The secret is a well maintained, playable and enjoyable golf course combined with an exceptionally high level of service. From check-in to the first tee, somebody is there to offer helpful advice with a smile. The opening hole sits alongside the 9th, 10th & 18th, all of which lead towards or away from the magnificent clubhouse and one of the best practice facilities on the Costa del Sol. Designed by Enrique Canales Busquets, the course has been created with respect for the natural environment, indigenous wildlife and vegetation. Santa Clara Golf Marbella provides a stimulating and unforgettable round for golfers of all abilities.
Signature Holes The course offers a great deal of variety, with a mixture of different length par 4’s which give the opportunity to strategize from the tee. The par 3’s are perhaps where it is most difficult to hold a good score together, with hazards and hillsides to contend with should you be wide of the target. The 13th measures 139 metres from the ladies tee, 182 metres from the men’s, and a massive 208 from the pros. Forming part of the course affectionately known as ‘Santa Clara Corner’, (holes 12, 13 & 14) - what also makes this hole so daunting is the lake which protects the front of the green.

Each hole is unique in character and afford views of the azure Meditterranean Sea. The numerous bunkers and lakes have to be successfully negotiated if one is to achieve a good score. Little valleys, ravines and gullies trap the unwary on the first few holes. The 11th requires particular care, with a sharp dogleg right amidst valleys and hills.
El Olivo Restaurant at Marbella Golf El Olivo is remarkable in form and content alike. Recently renovated, its elegant design reflects an understanding of eating according to which it’s not just what you have in your plate but a full experience that begins with the setting. In perfect interplay with the landscape outside -one of the most exclusive areas in Marbella- the art deco interior is like a harbinger of what you can find on the menu. El Olivo offers a creative menu, incorporating international cuisine (from France, Italy or Asia) in an attempt to avoid the “regional food” cliché.

Signature Holes Signature holes have to be special and the second hole at Greenlife cetainly is. When played from the back tee you have little to aim for: a small green surrounded by water and trees. The hole has a touch of the 17th at Sawgrass to it. We can only advise you select the correct club, aim straight and swing true in order to make the putting surface. Good luck! The fifth is a pleasure to play from the back tee. Trees surround the tee and entry to the fairway. A tree filled canyon awaits an errant tee shot and, with out of bounds all along the right and a small green, only the best shot will prevail.
Greenlife Golf is one of the hidden treasures amongst the courses on the Costa del Sol. A sublime nine-hole par three course set in the beautiful surroundings of Elvira Hills, it boasts beautifully manicured fairways and greens lined with olive and cork trees. The variable terrain makes a complicated test for golfers of all levels. You will find longer courses on the coast but none that provide such a challenge to your short game.

This club has a well-earned place amongst the most elite on the Costa del Sol, offering challenging golf in unparalleled surroundings. It affords views across the course to the Mediterranean, as well as inland to the mountains that lie to the north. The splendid 19th century clubhouseepitomises the charm and character of the club. While not long, the course is full of interest and considered one of the best along the coast; each hole has its own particular character. Many of the tees are elevated and, on a fine day, the views from the 10th to the 16th holes are breathtaking. The opening hole is a fairly straightforward 289m par-4. The tee shot must clear a small lake and avoid the ravine to the left of the fairway. After that only a short iron should be needed to find the generous putting surface, guarded by three bunkers.
Signature Holes The 7th is the first of the par-3’s. At 196 meters off an elevated tee not many players will reach the green - especially if the wind is against! The 11th is a spectacular left-handed dog leg, par-4, measuring just 286 meters. The elevated tee is at the highest point on the course and long hitters will have to avoid running into the lake or adjacent bunker. The feature here is a well-bunkered green with attractive waterfall to its right. Take a moment to admire the sheer beauty of the setting from the ‘mirador’ behind the 11th green, next to the 12th tee.

Cabopino Golf is situated on the border between Marbella and Mijas Costa, opposite the charming little marina of Cabopino. The course was designed by Juan Ligues Creus. The layout presents spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding pine forest. Cabopino Golf allows all categories of handicap golfers to enjoy a day out. At the entrance to Cabopino Golf we find the excellent facilities of the golf Academy and driving range. The driving range has a capacity for 60 players, with a depth of 250 mts, and 160 mts, wide distance markers, bunkers, and the natural layout amongst the pine forest make an interesting and challenging practise session. The academy offers classes for individual ladies and gentlemen, groups of children, and corporative groups.
Signature Holes The course with 5.170 mts, and par 71 has three par 3’s, two par 5’s and the rest par 4’s. Amongst the many spectacular holes, the par 4, 3rd would be one to mention. Your tee box perched on the side of the cliff, presents you with a tee shot that has a drop of nearly 200m to the fairway, you then face an elevated green protected by a large bunker. Holes 13 and 15 are also attractive, with streams and lakes. The tenth tee provides a magnificent view of the back nine and the Mediterranean Sea.

This short 9 hole par 3 golf course is designed by Enrique Canales and opened in 1990. Great views and an undulated course with mature vegetation make La Siesta a pleasant visit. Although a private club, visiting golfers are always welcome. It is certainly a course to sharpen up your short game. The distances vary considerably - from as little as 51m off the men’s tee at the second to 175m at the 7th (possibly requiring a wood for weaker hitters).
La Noria combines a number of technical holes with others where distance is a factor. Three magnificent lakes and a river all come into play. The 2nd is a dog-leg left, 225m par-4. The two-tiered green is protected by the river to the front, a lake to the left and a picturesque waterfall at the back. The 438m par-5 seventh has a bunker to the right of the landing area. It’s important to place the second shot strategically, since the approach is across a river to a splitlevel green surrounded by bunkers.

Miraflores Golf follows the gentle contours of the Sierra Mijas foothills and affords breathtaking views to the Mediterranean. Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, the course has recently undergone considerable improvements. Measuring 5,148 metres from the yellow tees, each of the 18 holes offers a different challenge - on the fifth and sixth, for example, the first shot has to carry over water. The twelfth is a huge 570 metres, divided by a lake - and there’s even more water danger on the fifteenth, where a moat completely surrounds the green. Members and visitors are always warmly welcomed. This is a family orientated club, where young and old, novices and advanced golfers can enjoy the game - from practising at the Golf Academy and playing in well organised tournaments to socialising in the Clubhouse.
The Miraflores Golf Restaurant In the heart of the Miraflores Golf Course, diners enjoy spectacular views from the terrace. Renowned for the quality of its food, it is a must place to visit. The restaurant is open 365 days a year to members and non-members, serving lunch and dinner. The delicious lunch menu is good value and our gourmet dinner and selection of wines is excellent. Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol within the “Golf Valley of Mijas”, only 15 mins from Fuengirola & 25 mins from Marbella. The course has been designed by Aymerich Golf Management to reflect the natural geography of the land and offer some degree of risk which players of all handicaps will enjoy. With spectacular sea and the mountain views from most of the holes, the greens have an average surface area of over 500 m2 and are exceptionaly designed to provide a great experience for all players. Fairways are varied from one hole to another, wide in the landing areas with visible hazards. Rasied tees give a perfect view of the hole and a more spectacular ball flight. Weekend golfers take note – there are no torturous holes, the sort that make you want to call it a day and head straight to the club house for a drink!
Signature Hole Hole 6. Par 3. • 163m • 156m • 134m Stroke index 3. From an elevated tee the view is of a green in a valley below with a small bunker at the front and a larger one to the left; of more significance is the large lake glistening menacingly on the right. The green, which slopes severely from back to front, is colossal and when the new trees, standing like sentries hither and yon, spread their palms the hole will be a photographer’s delight and one which will remain in the memory bank for many a long day.

All three La Cala courses were designed by the renowned course architect, Cabell B. Robinson who was previously employed as Robert Trent Jones’ designer in Europe. Campo America is a 6,009 metre par 72 with five par fives. The topography is similar to Campo Asia but the wide fairways make this a slightly easier driving course. There are fewer fairway bunkers as well but the changes in elevation put a priority on correct club selection. The first three holes offer birdie opportunities to get the scoring going along nicely. After that, no two holes are alike requiring skilful shots to the greens. Campo America requires accurate and well-judged shot-making on the approach as nearly three quarters of the greens are perched or slightly elevated.
Signature Holes The testing index 2, sixth. A par-5 that requires accurate shot making to reach the narrow, elevated green. The spectacular, short 16th with its lake and fountain. From the tee you have a panoramic view of the resort. The downhill 18th, a fantastic par five. A par should be easily achieved on this hole but walking off with a birdie or even an eagle will provide a great talking point at the 19th Hole.

La Cala Resort Campo Asia
Course Information 18 holes, Par 72 5925m • 5412m • 4467m Handicap: Men 28, Ladies 36 Requirements: Soft spikes only Facilities: Buggies, Driving Range, Putting green, Golf lessons, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Pool, Tennis, Gym, Sauna, Hotel
Signature Holes The par-3, second, offering panoramic 360 degree views of the resort to Mijas village and the Mediterranean. The reachable par-5, 14th. The approach shot needs to be very accurate as the green is protected by water on the left and is heavily bunkered on the right. The par-5, 18th, a real risk or reward hole where longer hitters can carry the ravine to set up an iron to the green. However, it is a risky shot that could make or break a round.
Campo Asia is not overly long at 5,925 metres but requires accuracy from all the tees. Drives that find the fairways will give the opportunity on most of the holes to attack the pins with the approach shots for potential birdies. Both the fairways and greens are well bunkered, and the majority of the tee shots, many of which are quite dramatic to comfortably wide landing areas, are either downhill or level. The four par fives, with the exception of the 1st, are reachable in two. Beware of the apparently concealed contours of the greens. Water is present on only two holes and approximately half of the approach shots are to elevated, well-defended greens. The four short holes offer tremendous variety, and although some require a carry over thick rough, all are easily reachable. This is an exciting course which puts a premium on accuracy and distance control.

This course contrasts with Campo Asia and Campo America with multiple tee positions, wider fairways and bigger, more receptive greens. They are not severely contoured but are wellbunkered and will be easier for the average golfer. The par 71 course measures 6,014 metres. The layout of 14 of the holes is visible from the tees that also offer fantastic views of the resort and the mountains. The Ojen river plays a part in eight holes, cutting across three fairways. There is one main bridge that measures 45 metres and four smaller bridges over the river. In addition to the sensational 54 holes of golf on offer, La Cala also has Spain’s only David Leadbetter Golf Academy. Practice facilities include a testing 6-hole par three course, Europe’s only 3-D, TaylorMade Performance Lab, a SAM Putting Lab, a grass driving range and putting and chipping greens.
Signature Holes The par-4 fourth twice crosses the river Ojen. Longer hitters can try to cross with the tee-shot but the safer play is to find the narrow fairway with a fairway metal or long iron. This still leaves a long shot to the large, well-bunkered green. The par-5, 11th is the longest hole, measuring 524 metres. It requires a strong tee shot to avail of the contours and set up the second from the fairway. Anything left will end up in the river. The 14th is at the maximum limit of what is allowed for a par 3 at 233 metres.

Course Information 18 holes, Par 72 5986m • 5654m • 4860m Handicap: Men 28, Ladies 34 Requirements: Soft spikes only Facilities: Buggies, Driving range, Putting green, Clubhouse, Restaurant
Signature Holes 4th. Excellent use of the natural features have been made on this very challenging Par 5 hole. Difficult decision: keep left to avoid the bunkers, aim second shot towards the right and hit third shot into the putting surface. Beware of the arroyo (stream) in front of the green. This hole is a true test for a championship golfer. 10th. The second nine opens with a Par 5 with a generously wide fairway and overwhelming scenic beauty. Play right of the bunker, followed by a long iron short of the lake. The receptive long green is defended by bunkers.
Set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland that was formerly an avocado plantation, Santana Golf has been sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson. The result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design. Wide and well manicured putting greens are surrounded by strategically placed bunkers with crushed marble sand. Technically speaking, Santana Golf is a demanding course as the unique design of each hole is intended to give a continuous challenge, even for the more experienced player.

El Chaparral Golf Club has become one of the most attractive golf clubs on the Costa del Sol, the result of the determination and efforts of Antonio Rubio’s family business. With a premium service from the moment you arrive: a wooden roof covers 90% of the car park, immediate welcome service, collection of golf bags, specialised staff, impeccably decorated changing rooms. With an original design by Pepe Gancedo, this is the only golf course on the Costa del Sol with 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s. With a total length of 6000 metres, it offers a wide variety of holes and is quite a challenging course, requiring high levels of accuracy and skill. When you have finished your game you can enjoy excellent service and food in the barrestaurant, either inside or outside on its terraces, surrounded by pine woods and beautiful views over the Mediterranean.
Signature Holes The eighth is a tricky par 4 which requires a tactical approach. You tee off from an elevated position with a dry bed water hazard running down the right hand side of the hole, an iron off the tee is the play here leaving a fairly short iron into the green. The par-3 tenth is probably the most picturesque hole. Tee off is from an elevated position, with Mediterranean views, to a green approximately 30ft below. The green slopes from back to front so avoid going too long – it plays a bit shorter then its yardage.

Created by Robert Trent Jones Senior, golf course architect par excellence and world renowned for his work that spreads from the Mediterrranean to the Pacific. Trent Jones believed that “every hole should be a hard par and an easy bogey”. Mijas Golf International lives up to that belief, maintaining the sanctity of par with Trent Jones’ hallmarks of strategically placed water and sand, yet offering the high handicapper generous but gently undulating fairways and a general impression of wide open space. This is a very popular golfing complex with two superb courses.
Signature Holes
Los Lagos, the oldest, dates back to 1976 and is one of the longest on the coast. It is characterised by wide fairways, large raised greens and more than a sprinkling of bunkers; lakes feature prominently on eight of the holes. It has a very open feel, however, as trees are sparse and there is only a little rough.
The 8th is the longest par 3 at Mijas Golf Club. 209 meters from the pro tee, 200m from the yellows and 143m from the ladies. There is water is everywhere, so the safe shot on this hole is to play short of the green.
No hole so characterises this course as much the 5th - some 617 yards (564 metres), curving seeming endlessly around a boundary wall and over a full 100 yards (91,44 metres) of fairway bunker, it approaches the green through a narrowing funnel with out of bounds left and large lake to the right.

Mijas Golf LOS OLIVOS
Course Information los olivos: 18 holes, Par 70 5840m • 5562m • 4880m Handicap: Men 28, Ladies 36 Requirements: Soft spikes only Facilities: Electric trolleys, Buggies, Driving Range, Golf lessons, Clubhouse, Restaurant
Signature Holes
Los Olivos also designed by Trent Jones and built by Cabell Robinson, opened in 1984. Los Olivos complements Los Lagos, but offers a tighter challenge. This par 70 course measures 6386 yards (5840 metres) was completely refurbished by Cabell Robinson during the season 2000-2001, following Trent Jones’ original design concept. The main feature which distinguishes this course from the other is the abundance of trees – hence the name – and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended.
The second hole is a long par 4 for high handicappers. Perhaps best to play as a par 5, watch that bunker on the right. It is a long second shot to the green. Keep to the right. The eighth might be the most difficult par 3 on the course but the par three 14th. is not too far behind. All the problems here are on the left side of the green. Safe shot is short or to the right of the green. Be Happy. Settle for a four. Now you can start thinking about the long and difficult 15th. Prepare yourself for a long green and settle for a five, one over par.
The Club House is an old Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse), and beside it, one can feel the continual buzz on the terraces of the Restaurant, where the variety of clientele can be noticed; Mijas Golf has managed to mix, with success, the residents on the area with visitors from all over the world.

Perched in the hills inland from La Cala de Mijas, with panoramic views over Fuengirola to the East and Mijas to the West lies the delightful new 9 hole course of Cerrado del Aguila. With a superb driving range and practice area and a delightful all wooden temporary clubhouse (new clubhouse is under construction) you will feel at ease as soon as you arrive. The holes all have generous fairways that are in superb condition, as are all of the greens and tees. There are several small lakes on the course that are brought into play on a number of the holes, and they too are all very impressive to look at, bordered neatly by large rocks. The course is not overly long at 5,504 metres off the yellow tee’s, but with 2 par 5’s well over 500 metres having to be played twice it will provide a test for even the longest of hitters.
Signature Holes Toughest hole: The stroke index 1 hole, the par 5 2nd & 11th. Only 502 metres off the yellow tees, but being uphill all the way to the green it would be impossible to hit the green in two even for the monster hitters. If you get a par here you will have done extremely well. Best Par 3: 4th & 13th is 133 metres in length and the tee box sits high above the green. With water in front and to the left of the green it looks very impressive. The green is very large so even if you find it off the tee you may still have your work cut out to make par. In all this is a great par 3.

Torrequebrada Golf
Course Information 18 holes, Par 72 5852m • 5763m • 4881m Handicap: Men 27, Ladies 35 Requirements: Soft spikes only Facilities: Trollies, Buggies, Putting green, Driving range, Golf lessons, Pro shop, Ultrasonic club cleaning, Courtesy buggy for golfers and clubs, Clubhouse overlooking the 18th - with modern facilities, terraces, reception rooms for private functions and a bar/restaurant Signature Holes Very few of the holes let you just drive without thinking – although the fairways are quite forgiving, the course is complicated by a number of dog legs, elevated tees, ravines and water hazards. For nearest to the pin try the very short 3rd hole to give everybody a chance - don’t be put off that Seve Ballasteros once scored a 7 here. If you’re driving well you can cut the corner from the elevated tee on the par 4 5th. Another challenging hole is the par 4 15th with an iron off the tee for position then 150m ( 165 yards) all carry to the green.
Torrequebrada golf course opened in 1976, and was designed by Jose Pepe Gancedo, one of Spain´s most promising golfers. Torrequebrada is considered one of the best courses in Spain and was host to the 53rd Spanish Open Championship in 1979. Golf Torrequebrada is now leading the way on the coast to provide a top level service to all golfers ensuring that their golf is enjoyed.

In 2007 there were some major changes at the club, primary the total replacement of the irrigation system on the course which has made a fantastic difference to the condition to the fairways and greens. New Pro Shop, Caddymaster and changing rooms have been updated to make the areas more appealing and modern to all golfers and mirroring the standard expected from a golf course of this standard.

Signature Holes
This superb nine hole pitch & putt course with two-tier driving range has recently been added to the Aymerich Golf Management portfolio. Holes range from just 46 meters to 100 meters, but plenty of hazards and interesting features make it a fun layout. Aymerich are keen to encourage current players and visitors to take their golfing experience to the next level as well as giving them confidence to progress from the nine hole to full eighteen at other Aymerich courses.
Hole 7. Par 3. 59m. A hole that demands accuracy due to the three bunkers surrounding the green.
The new improved golf school will cover everything from golf theory and etiquette to technique. Adults and young golfers who are just starting out will be given all the help they need to get the most out of their game.
Hole 9. Par 3. 77m. The green is well defended by three bunkers to the right and a lake to the left. The fairly flat green shouldn’t cause too many complications.
Hole 8. Par 3. 100m. The longest and most complicated hole on the course, with views to the sea, and a waterfall that crosses the left of the hole, making the green very narrow. The green is also defended by two bunkers to the right.

Alhaurín Golf is a truly beautiful course overlooking the Mijas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Apart from its magnificent Severiano Ballesteros designed par 72 course, Alhaurín Golf features superb practising facilities with a spacious natural grass driving range, putting green, chipping green and a pretty 9 hole par 3 academy course. The course is made up of 5 par fives, 5 par threes and 8 par fours providing a balanced game for low and high handicappers alike. Water only comes into play on three holes and greens are lightly guarded by bunkers in most cases. The trees and plants within the course are typically Mediterranean with plenty of pine trees, Spanish oaks, cypress, orange trees, palms and olives plus a wide range of aromatic plants like thyme and rosemary.
Signature Holes The signature hole is number six, a par five dogleg right with the most amazing tee positions and views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The drop in height from the tees is absolutely unique, and leaves most players with two more shots to reach the green, well protected by bunkers but not difficult to putt. This is one of those holes every golfer must play. The most difficult hole at stroke index 1 is the par 4 9th. At 404m from the back tees, it is a long way, uphill to a raised green which slopes from back to front. Take plenty of club!

Signature Holes 13: Par 5. “Joselito”. Possibly the most difficult hole with out of bounds at both sides, a lake at the entrance of a small green and a bunker behind that cannot be seen from the fairway. 26: Par 3. “Tragabuches”. This par three is less difficult than it seems. The fear of the gully makes many players hit the ball too much to the right. 27: Par 5. “Niños de Écija”. The nicest hole and with the best views of Lauro Golf, protected by water on the right at the start and on the left at the entrance of the green.
Lauro Golf is a course moderately flat that can be played without buggy. The designers intended that every shot was a challenge for the player, who must keep the concentration all the time and choose the right club. Some holes change their difficulty depending on the direction of the two main winds of the area, Levante and Poniente. Designed by Folco Nardi and inaugurated in 1992, course and nature bond happily together. Partly in a protected, construction-free area, Lauro commands superb views over the sea and mountains. Combining technique and strategy, this is recognized as one of the best courses along the coast. The addition of a further 9 holes in 2003 provided an overall layout which becomes increasingly spectacular as the (literally) thousands of trees mature.

From Malaga airport. On the Algeciras / Motril-GranadaSevilla highway, towards Malaga, take the exit Parque Technlogico-CartamaCampanillas (near Carrefour shopping centre) and after aproximately 7 kms, take the exit Mercamalaga (House in ruins as landmark). Turn right at the intersection and follow the signs “Campo de Golf”. The course is located 4 km from that point. Total distance from airport approx. 15 kms.
Guadalhorce Golf Club was inaugurated in 1990 and is typified by its friendly family atmosphere. Its impressive Andalusian mansion was built at the end of the 18th century, and is a green oasis in the midst of the busy capital. Apart from the usual club house facilities there are two swimming pools, tennis and paddle tennis courts, basket ball and even a football pitch. In fact if your game is in a really bad way you might care to pop into the course chapel! The Par 72 course was originally designed by Kosti Kuronen, but much of it has now been re-designed by one of its most famous members, Miguel Angel Jimenz. Visitors playing times are limited to mornings only - nor do visitors have full access to the whole of the club’s services. Don’t miss the view from the restaurant terrace - spectacular.
Signature Holes The first nine holes are in a typical English “parkland” style, only two of the holes, the second and fifth are slightly elevated. All the greens however are quite large and fast. There has been quite a bit of earth moving to create a more rugged second nine holes, with the 10th, 11th and 14th to 17th holes being heavily influenced by surrounding lakes and the Guadalhorce river. The 14th hole is a par 4 with a tree in the centre of the fairway. A difficult green, with an awkward approach and undulating greens.

Signature Holes The 9th is a tricky par-3, difficult to reach on windy days, with a subtly contoured putting surface. Once beyond the half-way hut (delicious tapas!), the par-5 12th is the most difficult on the course. The tee shot plays between encroaching trees, the second leaves no room for error and the approach is to an elevated, stepped green protected to its front by a stream. 14 is, again, a par-5 - if you manage to avoid the sandy rough off the tee, water protecting the green demands a good, straight shot in. Eighteen is one of the trickiest par-4’s along the coast! A double dog-leg, with a dense area of tree waiting for any drive straying left.
By far the oldest course on the Coast and inaugurated by the Spanish Royal Family in 1925. Now consisting of 27 holes, the original 18 holes were designed by Tom Simpson, of Muirhead and Turnberry fame. An easy to walk course, although it is a long one, flat, a mixture of links, seawater lagoons and park land, suitable for all levels of golfers but when yet that sea wind blows offering a severe challenge to even the most experienced of golfers. Mostly open fairways, flat and quite easy to read greens, apart from the 9th, 12th and 15th. The course has been rather underrated of late but is now under new management and in recent years the greens and conditions of the course has been vastly improved. Many visiting golfers like to play this course on the last day of their golfing holiday as it is only a 5 minute drive from 18th or 19th to Malaga airport.

A par 72 golf course it is 6,016 metres long for the professional player and 5,833 metres long for amateurs. First opened in 1990 Anoreta is a challenging course for all levels of player ability. Of varied design and agreeably surrounded by trees and water, which serves to compliment the natural beauty of the area. Some of the holes are spectacular. The 7th with its impressive views of the sea. The 17th hole, par three, is surrounded by a large lake which makes it a truly impressive green. The club offers a wide range of services, club hire, buggies, bar restaurant etc. Also there is a bi-lingual golf school, offering its services to young and old alike.
Location and surroundings With the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada only two hours drive away Anoreta occupies a position of great advantage situated as it is between the surrounding mountains and sea. Course Information 18 holes, Par 71 5609m • 5330m • 4744m Handicap: Men 30, Ladies 36 Requirements: Soft spikes Facilities: Clubhouse, Driving range, Golf academy, Trolleys, Buggies
Signature Holes If you want to get rid of some old balls then keep them for the 3rd hole, you might loose a few here. If you get a par then it might be a good idea to frame the score card for posterity. When you play the 7th hole it would be advisable to avoid the cactus garden on the left, not the kind of hazard one might find at home. For the 14th it might be better if you pack some binoculars in your bag, it’s huge, and if you are really unlucky you might get wet. Lastly at the 18th. Do you play with slice? If you do, hallelujah! A hole where you will feel comfortable from the tee.
Baviera Golf has been designed by José María Cañizares, the prestigious professional golfer. Cañizares is one of our most international and charismatic golfers in whose record are 5 tournaments of the European circuit and 2 world championships as well as several participations in the Ryder Cup. Baviera Golf is an even course characterized by its wide greens with many movements and the great variety of obstacles which offer a big range of strokes and an ideal design for all types of handicap.

Created with great respect for the natural environment, the course is one of the longest in Andalucia and will challenge players of all standards. The front 9 with its bunkers, “barrancos” and ‘the hill’ is very different from the back 9 which has some long undulating fairways, a lake and a few well placed trees to contend with - altogether making for an interesting and at times, intriguing game of golf. Living in Spain There are plenty of reasons why people from other countries choose to live in Spain. Individuals have their own particular reasons but many are shared by all. Climate. Spain has often been described as having the best climate in Europe. The eastern and southern coasts, such as Valencia and the Costa del Sol, are mainly dry and warm. People can enjoy the sun, sea and the many quiet beaches all year round. Mountainous regions in the north, such as Asturias and Aragon, have extremes of temperature that favour outdoor sports like hiking and cycling in summer and skiing in the winter. Many people who own a property in Spain prefer visiting it in the ‘low’ season when there are few tourists around and the temperatures are still warm enough to enjoy the outdoor life the Spaniards are famous for. Diet. The Mediterranean diet - and especially Spain’s - has long been renowned for its healthy benefits. Seafood, olive oil, vegetables, fruits and very good wines are usual ingredients in one of finest cuisines
of Europe. It’s hard to beat one of Spain’s most famous dishes, paella, complemented with a glass or two of Rioja red. Language. Castilian Spanish, the official national language, is pleasant to the ear and spoken by more than 450 million people worldwide. Those who would like to learn Castilian have the choice of many local or online courses. Diversity. Spain has a wonderful assortment of weather, culture and geography. Crisp cold mornings and long warm evenings, rural villages or modern cities, plains and mountains, snow, sun, long sandy beaches and small rocky coves. It’s all here. Outdoor life. It is not difficult to lead a healthy lifestyle in Spain if you have the time and the enthusiasm for water sports,
golf or going for long walks on the beach or in the countryside. Many Spaniards take their meals al fresco and spend long hours socializing outdoors in the evenings. Culture. The Romans and Iberians in ancient times, the medieval Moors, and more lately immigrants from northern Europe and beyond have all contributed to Spain’s traditions and customs. To soak up this rich culture, visit the castles, museums and art galleries that abound in Spain, or just wander through the streets of some of the towns and villages. People. It is often said that the Spanish know how to enjoy life. They are an extroverted people who love to eat and to party. They are also renowned for their loyalty and protectiveness towards family and friends – and the hospitality they show to foreigners, especially those try to speak their language.

Property Costa del Sol Golf Guide
The secret is out! Or at least so it seems to some
With doom and gloom around every corner it’s refreshing to hear some positive news coming out of Los Arqueros Estates and their on site real estate business in Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club. On this coast we meet lots of people involved in the property market but non as positive as Ian Cooper, Managing Director of Los Arqueros Estates. “We are finding great deals right now in Los Arqueros. UK vendors are cashing in their property and taking advantage of the weak pound and this is driving sales. At the same time, buyers who have been sitting on the fence are now pushing the button to buy.” So apparently confidence is back, we asked Ian who is buying? “As Los Arqueros was first developed by a Swedish company it has always been popular with Swedish clients and still is. Taylor Woodrow’s involvement over the past 14 years has meant the UK market has also been strong here and now we have seen a number of Dutch and Russian clients buying recently.”
And why? “Well that’s easy, excellent all round value. A community which is consolidated, safe, well established and 100% legal.” Anyone not familiar with Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club in Benahavis are in for a pleasant surprise. Firstly its location is amazing, offering stunning sea views towards the Mediterranean, with a backdrop of La Zagaleta and Sierra Bermeja and all just a few minutes away from the beach, Marbella and Puerto Banus. It not all about Seve Ballesteros’ 18-hole golf course either. As Ian points out, “a short drive away is the white village of Benahavis named the gastronomic corner of Andalucia with dozens of great restaurants. Added to this you can find a host of other sports activities and professional instruction all on site.”
Ian has chosen to specialize in selling properties in Los Arqueros Golf and Country Club, with his properties ranging in price from €160.000 to just over €3.95 million. This allows a wide range of people the opportunity to experience a fabulous lifestyle and to enjoy all the facilities this development has to offer.
