Valderrama’s Par 71 Championship Course measures 6390 metres from the pro tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot. The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Sotogrande New. In 1981 its name was changed to Las Aves. Its incarnation in its present form began in 1984, when Jaime Ortiz-Patiño was able to acquire it from the developers who a few years earlier had laid out the very extensive Sotogrande area so imaginatively and tastefully. Ortiz-Patiño had been one of the first to build a house, and for some years he had nursed the secret ambition to bring Las Aves to a greater potential. In 1984 he was able to acquire, along with the golf course, certain additional parcels of
land that would allow this. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout of ten years earlier. Together the two men spent many hours walking around the course and discussing where and how improvements should be made. Ortiz-Patiño renamed the course Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated. The pair shared a common aim: to create a course that would present a test of golf to the everyday golfer and the first-class player alike, and would bring out the best golf that is in him.Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989. No championship course in modern times has so swiftly achieved such recognition. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 1996. In 1997 the Club
hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain.
Next, in 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. The tone for the Ryder Cup event was set by Severiano Ballesteros, the Europe captain, when he walked the course with John Paramor, the chief tournament director. ‘I found everything perfect,’ he said. ‘It’s impossible to imagine a golf course in better condition. Valderrama is a private Members’ club, but a limited number of starting times are offered for visitors most days of the year. The European Tour is now set to return to Valderrama once again, staging the Andalucía Valderrama Masters October 28-31.

A confirmed field size of 96 players will have a golden opportunity to improve their Race To Dubai ranking on The European Tour International Schedule by playing for a first prize of €500,000 from a €3 million prize fund in the inaugural Andalucía Valderrama Masters at Club de Golf Valderrama from October 28-31.
The reduced field, which includes five invites and four players from the Spanish Order of Merit, takes into account the amount of daylight available in the area at that time of year. It also means the cut will see the top 50 players, and those tied for 50th place, complete the final two rounds.
The tournament, which reinforces The European Tour’s formidable partnership with the Spanish region, will be the last event of the year on the Tour’s home continent before the season-ending finale of The Dubai World Championship four weeks later. It is fitting that an Andalucían tournament fills this role for, at the end of March, the Open de Andalucía de Golf was the first tournament to be played in mainland Europe during the 2010 season. That tournament was won by South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen who, four months later, produced a world-class
performance to win the 150th Anniversary Open Championship by seven shots on the Old Course at St Andrews.
A top quality field will assemble at Valderrama in October, headed by BMW PGA Championship winner Simon Khan of England, all keen to triumph at one of the most iconic venues in world golf.
Keith Waters, Chief Operating Officer of The European Tour, said: “The European Tour’s partnerships with both Junta de Andalucía and Club de Golf Valderrama are among the strongest in golf, so to be able to further strengthen our relationship gives us immense satisfaction.
“We look forward to returning to one of the great venues of European golf for what will be one of the key events as The Race to Dubai gathers momentum, and we thank our friends at the Junta de Andalucía and the Ortiz Patiño family at Valderrama for their commitment to The European Tour.” Felipe Ortiz Patiño, President of Valderrama Golf Club, said: “We are very happy to be associated with the Junta de Andalucía and are sure that together we will organize one of the best events on the European Tour calendar.
“Valderrama has a wealth of experience in hosting world-class events, having hosted The 1997 Ryder Cup, the World Golf Championships in 1999 and 2000, and 16 editions of the Volvo Masters. Furthermore, the superb quality of its golf course has proven Valderrama to be the supreme championship venue in Continental Europe.
“The combination of these elements, together with the commitment of the Andalusian Government, guarantee a unique event which will not only be a worthy successor to those we have hosted in the past, but also the first of what we hope are many more tournaments.” Mr. Jose Francisco Pérez Moreno, CEO of Empresa Pública Turismo Andaluz, said: “We are delighted to use the Andalucía Valderrama Masters as the flagship for promoting golf in Andalucía, not only as sport, but also as a tourist destination. Over the years, Valderrama has proved to be one of the most challenging and exciting venues for a world-class event. We have shown a very strong commitment with The European Tour by hosting three events in Andalucía in 2010, and two of them have produced two fantastic winners in Álvaro Quiros and Louis Oosthuizen.”

Named Ambassador for the Costa del Sol’s 2015 Solheim Cup Bid American LPGA star Christina Kim was named as an ambassador for the Costa del Sol’s 2015 Solheim Cup bid at the 2010 Open de España Femenino held at Flamingos Golf Club in September.

News Costa del Sol Golf Guide
The two-time Solheim Cup player was presented with a replica sculpture of a bird by Picasso as a gift, by Francisco Amoros, director of the Costa del Sol tourist board, to mark the occasion following second round play at the spectacular Flamingos Golf Course. Kim played on the victorious 2005 US Solheim Cup side at Crooked Stick in Indiana and then again at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois in 2009. The energetic and competitive 26-year-old from San José, California, has a 5-2-1 win-losedraw overall record having scored 5 ½ points and earned the final point to clinch the Cup for the U.S. Team in 2009. Alicia Garrido Villacieros from Deporte & Business, the Promoter of the Open de España Femenino, is involved in preparing the Solheim Cup bid submission and she explained: “I think it’s very important to show the American people that Costa del Sol is a good place to come and I think Christina Kim is a fantastic ambassador for that.”
Kim is known as a spark plug for the US team and is never afraid to show emotion on the course in the biennial transatlantic women’s match play golf tournament. As well as being a member of the LPGA, she joined the Ladies European Tour last year and was delighted to be in southern Spain for the first time at the 2010 Open de España Femenino.
She said: “There are so many golf courses between here and the Andalusia area. It’s just absolutely stunning. I think it would be a great place to have a Solheim Cup, however I will say that whenever you think of Solheim Cup in Europe you think of clouds, rain and wind in either the UK or somewhere in Scandinavia, so I would not be upset if I was here in 2015 at all.” She added that she would be reporting back on her first experience of Spain to potential US Solheim Cup team members. “I’ll just be telling them that they’ve got some of the most incredible food; the culture is fantastic; lots of incredible red wine, beautiful men,
accommodations are spectacular, great golf courses and very passionate people. It really epitomises what The Solheim Cup is about.” Azahara Muñoz, who was raised in nearby San Pedro de Alcántara, was also presented with a gift as the European representative for the bid and she is hoping to make an appearance on the 2011 team at Killeen Castle in Ireland. She commented: “I think everybody would love to have The Solheim here. It’s a beautiful place, beautiful weather and beautiful people so hopefully we get it.” She watched The Ryder Cup on television at school when it was played at Valderrama in 1997. The region has hosted some of the world’s biggest men’s golf tournaments and Alicia Garrido Villacieros added: “It’s time for ladies’ golf in the Costa del Sol. We start with this; we want to have more tournaments on the Ladies European Tour and if we get The Solheim Cup, that would be just fantastic.” The host country and venue will be announced in 2011.

Benahavis Senior Masters Returns to La Quinta, October 15-17
The European Senior Tour will return to La Quinta Golf and Country Club in Spain for the second edition of the Benahavis Senior Masters from October 15-17. With a prize fund of €180,000, the announcement of the tournament takes the number of events that count towards the 2010 Senior Tour Order of Merit to 19.
England’s Carl Mason captured the title at the inaugural Benahavis Senior Masters in 2009, defeating Gordon Brand Jnr in a play-off after the pair tied on seven under par 206. That was Mason’s 22nd Senior Tour title taking him one short of Tommy Horton’s benchmark of 23 – a record he subsequently equalled with victory in last week’s Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open.
The Benahavis Senior Masters will be the first of two trips to Spain as the 2010 campaign reaches its climax, with the OKI Castéllon Senior Tour Championship rounding the season off in November.
José Antonio Mena, Mayor of Benahavís, said: “Benahavís is very proud to be associated with the game of golf and it is through events like
this that the municipality aims to be known as a centre of golfing excellence in southern Spain.”
Joaquin Moya Angeler, President of La Quinta Golf and Country Club, said: “We at La Quinta Golf and Country Club are extremely proud to have the opportunity to host our second consecutive Benahavís Senior Masters, and we are delighted to have some of the world’s finest senior golfers here with us again. “We are grateful to the region and Mayor of Benahavís for their commitment and efforts throughout, as well as our members, who have been so understanding by donating the course for the week and supporting both this year’s event and last.”
The event will be promoted by Sportcel, which also promoted and staged the Matrix Jersey Classic in June which was won by Brand Jnr, the runner up in last year’s Benahavis Senior Masters.
Rob Owen, Director of Sportcel Marketing, said: “Following on from our successful staging of the recent Matrix Jersey Classic, we are delighted to extend our relationship with the European Senior Tour by taking on the promoter’s role for the Benahavis
Senior Open at La Quinta Golf Club. “We are confident that with the support of the Benahavis authority, La Quinta resort and the Tour we will quickly establish the tournament as a favourite amongst players and fans alike, ensuring its long term commercial success.”
Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “We are delighted with the addition of the Benahavis Senior Masters to the 2010 European Senior Tour schedule which strengthens the climax to an already exciting season for us.
“Last year all of the players enjoyed the unique ambience of the Benahavis region and La Quinta Golf and Country Club and I’m sure they will all be looking forward to returning. We also look forward to working alongside Sportcel again following the successful partnership during the Matrix Jersey Classic last month.” La Quinta Golf and Country Club was designed by Spanish Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero and is set in the beautiful region of Benahavis, on the Costa del Sol, which is renowned for its beautiful mountain scenery and outstanding golf courses.

La Quinta Inaugurates New Golf Course
Don Joaquin Moya Angeler, (Club President) was delighted to re-open the recently renovated Course C at La Quinta Golf and Country Club. Undeterred by the challenging economic climate of the past year La Quinta has continued to heavily invest in the development of its first-class facilities. Two million Euros´ has been invested installing a new irrigation system and a re-design of key holes. Course C now boasts two brand new par 3’s. The 2nd is a daunting par 3 of 182m from the white tees over water (see below). The 6th another new par 3 of 133m built into the mountainside and offering spectacular views across the meditterarean.
The project has been supervised under the watchful eye of former Ryder Cup player Manuel Pinero and directed by Head Superintendant Antonio Pineda to conform to the new decree set out by the Junta de Andalucia. Don Borja Pascual (Club Vice-President) commented “I am delighted we will be one of the first clubs in Andalucia to follow the new decree and I am certain the improvements will vastly improve the playability of the course.”
La Quinta once again plays host to the Benahavis Senior Masters for the second successive year on 15th-17th October 2010 and the changes to C course will prove a significant challenge to the very best on the European Seniors Tour. Jim Furyk
Wins the Tour Championship, FedExCup and 10 Million Dollars He looked to his left. Then to his right. Then back to his left. Then right again.
The question had been asked of Jim Furyk, the rain-drenched owner of two new trophies that were sitting contently within arm’s reach Sunday afternoon. Which one meant more? To his right was the shiny silver Tiffany trophy representing the FedExCup. To his left was the Waterford crystal trophy for winning THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola.
The FedExCup meant a season’s worth of accomplishments, and a big prize at the end -- the $10 million bonus. THE TOUR Championship meant he had won his third event this year, first time in his career. And he had done it on a course he loves (East Lake) and in final-round conditions that were a true test of a golfer’s ability to withstand the pressure (heavy) and the elements (rainy). Furyk took his time in answering the question. He worked through the process, much like he worked through Sunday’s 18 intense holes. He wanted his response to be thought out, not flippant. He finally pointed to the FedExCup.
“This one,” he said. Then he explained. “They both mean a lot, to be honest with you,” he said. “But this one is a season. ... I focused all week on trying to win this one (pointing to THE TOUR Championship trophy) and hoped this one (the FedExCup) could come true.”
In its fourth year of existence, the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup delivered the kind of nerve-tingling, white-knuckle drama that it was supposed to create. The outcome was not decided until Furyk’s final par putt from 2-1/2 feet on the 18th hole found the bottom of the cup.
Had he missed, it would have forced a suddendeath playoff with Luke Donald for both the tournament championship and the FedExCup. It would have extended what already had been a long (due to a 110-minute weather delay) and, for some players, confusing (due to all the wild FedExCup scenarios and projections) day. After hitting arguably the most important bunker shot in his life during a week in which he’s never played better out of the sand -- he was 9-for-9 in sand saves -- kept his emotions in check long enough to seal the deal.
With his cap turned backwards so that the steady rain would not drip off the brim and interrupt his concentration, Furyk calmly sank the putt, picked the ball out of the cup, then thrust both arms in the air, a rare show of intense celebration from a golfer we’ve come (perhaps wrongly?) to consider as stoic.
Furyk, you see, gets it. He gets the FedExCup. He gets the importance of what he accomplished Sunday. Yes, the FedExCup is still a relative infant in a sport that cherishes its history. It does not have Bobby Jones or Ben Hogan stamped on its trophy. But it does have Tiger Woods (2007, 2009) and Vijay Singh (2008). You’ve probably heard of them. “Hey, it’s only four years old,” Furyk said, “But 40 years from now, there should be a lot of history in this trophy.
“To have Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk ... I’m very proud of that because those two can flat play. You know, two of the most dominant players of my era, for sure.” Furyk now has 16 career PGA TOUR wins, one major, and a well-earned FedExCup.

Sergio Garcia is a footie star
Sergio Garcia has achieved a lifelong ambition by playing for his home football club in the Spanish Third Division. The ex-world No 2 golfer came on for the final eight minutes of Borriol’s 1-0 defeat by Ribarroja on the final weekend in September. He played on the left of midfield and even had a loud penalty claim turned down.
One onlooker said: “Sergio looked on the hefty side but has talent. However, he only got his chance because he’s club president.” Garcia, 30, hoped the coach will give him more games during a two-month break from golf before helping out the Ryder Cup side as vicecaptain. He has not won an event in two years and has dropped out of the top 50.

Two4One
Play more, pay less, save 1000’s of Euros Now available on the Costa del Sol & the Costa Calida/Blanca… only 54€
So what is the answer? Unlimited ‘two for one’ golf ? I don’t think so, it would ruin the current markets the golf clubs have already. In the Costa del Sol there is a five tier system • A rack rate or public rate • A golf society rate for resident players • A tour operator rate for” legal” tour operators • Memberships of golf courses • The golf Two4One card
We are in a very competitive market and need to attract more people to the area to increase trade not only in the golf clubs but local golf shops, local bars and restaurants. The way forward is not to discount our prices but to offer something different. There is now another way you can book your game of golf directly with the golf clubs. From the end of September you will be able purchase a Two4One card not only in the Costa del Sol but in the Costa Calida / Blanca.
We have been trading very successfully in the Costa del Sol since 2008, working closely with the golf courses, marketing their products in other parts of the world with quality business partners like Finn air Plus and Monarch Airlines. The Two4One card offers you a chance to play golf at the participating courses at a “two for one” rate, but only once per benefit. When you use that benefit the caddy master crosses that number off the back of the card. This will enable you to play all the courses on the card at least once, but that’s not all. In essence for 54€ you buy all the benefits on the card which last for a year, from January to December, in addition to green fees there is 2x1 golf lessons, 2x1 meals in restaurants, 2x1drinks in participating bars which will be constantly updated throughout the year.
The recent decline in golfers coming this way in recent times has a lot to do with the present financial climate we find ourselves in, exchange rates for travelling golfers and interest rates for resident players. There are many resident golfers who have had to reduce the number of times they play golf a week or have simply given up because of the cost. There are also other factors, the emerging markets of Turkey, Portugal, Thailand and other parts of the world have a lot to do with golfers playing elsewhere, they offer a change and a service which is second to none.
We have attracted many more golfers to the Costa del Sol in recent times and are sure this card will attract more golfers to the Costa Calida / Blanca Area. We now offer another choice, if you are playing less golf and want to play more if you have given up golf and want to start again this is the choice for you. Nobody from any country in the western world will find any fundamental differences between southern Spanish society and the one they left behind. The real difference will probably be the climate, since few western countries outside the Mediterranean basin enjoy such a luxury. The people are, of course, different, and they speak a different language and have different customs, but it is the marked friendliness of the Andalusians, their gastronomy and their traditions – all different from ours - that prompt most people to come here in the first place. The climate on the Iberian Peninsula is generally stable, and as far as meteorological science permits, weather forecasts are reliable. The seasons are fairly predictable, with periods of rain in the Costa del Sol from the end of September to the end of November, and in March and April. Rain and sunshine can alternate on any given day during these periods, and it is rare to have rain falling for more than two or three days at a time.
The beaches on the Costa del Sol are largely sandy, but there are also many pebble beaches where foot-ware is advised. Tourists coming to the Costa del Sol in winter are advised to take umbrellas and raincoats, although such items can be purchased cheaply in local shops.
Opening hours for shops tend to change from winter to summer. In general, summer shopping times are from 10 in the morning to 1.30 or 2 in the afternoon, and from 5.30 to 9 at night. In important tourist areas, many shops open later than nine in the morning, and remain open during siesta time and until quite late at night. Spanish law permits supermarkets to open on Sundays in large tourist areas during the summer period. Bars, restaurants and cafeterias have more flexible opening hours, generally in accordance with the requirements of their clients.
Public institutions and banks open only in the mornings, although more essential services may be available in the afternoons as well. The banks close on Saturdays only in summer, while savings banks (cajas de ahorros, to all practical purposes, similar to banks) always close on Saturdays. Health care is comprehensive on the Costa del Sol, with a complete network of hospitals and health centres all over the province of Malaga. Tourists from the European Union should carry the new European health card, which substitutes the old E-111 form. In any case, emergency treatment is immediate, with or without a card, which is necessary only for subsequent paperwork.
Public safety in the province of Malaga, as in all of Spain, is in the hands of the National Police, the Guardia Civil, the Autonomous Police and the Local or Municipal Police. These police forces work together, and people with problems that require immediate police attention can call on any of them. The easiest way of calling the police is by phoning 091, the National Police number, or calling to any police station in person. English is the second language on the Costa del Sol, and it is spoken to some extent by most people in positions of authority in the province of Malaga, especially in the coastal areas. English is less widely spoken in the interior of the province, except in large towns or tourist areas. Tourism offices usually have personnel capable of communicating in English, French and German.
Electrical current in Spain is 220 volts, and the electrical plug used is two-point. Adaptors must thus be used for any electrical appliance that does not use the two-point plug, and transformers must be used with appliances that use a different voltage. It is advisable to take these with you.
All Town Halls have a lost-objects department, although found objects are frequently handed in at the nearest police station. If handbags or wallets have been left in bars or restaurants, it is worth going back to check with the management: they generally keep them for a week or so before handing them over to the police. Given the cosmopolitan character of the Costa del Sol, there are places of worship for most major religions, with Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and other minority religious centres on the coast. Alcaidesa Links The topography of the terrain in Alcaidesa Links consists of rolling hillsides sloping gently to the sea and ending in a stunningly beautiful beach. It has almost 2 km of beachfront. A considerable number of its holes lie next to the beach, between sand dunes only partially covered by vegetation. The course has an uninterrupted 18-hole round beginning at the first hole by the Clubhouse and not returning to the latter until the 18th, also located by the Clubhouse. The difficulty on the course mainly concerns the prevailing winds in the area. One of the peculiarities that most impresses the
visitor are the spectacular views of the Mediterranean, the Straits of Gibraltar and North Africa, and the unobstructed views of the sea from virtually anywhere on the course. Future golfers practise their art at our Golf Academy whilst the experienced players work at improving their game. Private and group classes are available in several different languages, covering beginners, experienced players or those wishing to obtain licences. There are even special courses for children. The driving range has 72 booths, half of which are roofed, and a large practice area with putting green, bunkers and pitching area.

Alcaidesa Links Apart from the classic Links-type course, which has been Alcaidesa’s flagship since 1992, since 2007 there is a new Heathland one, which recovers the gently undulating landscape and typical groves of the area. Thanks to Dave Thomas, the famous golf course designer, this golf course is now the best setting for any type of golf championship.

The new course designed by Dave Thomas Ltd offers a variety of natural landscapes ranging from the plateau area (holes 1 to 5 & 17th & 18th) where the course has the feel of a Heathland course with wide fairways & outstanding views of the Mediterranean sea
& the local mountain ranges, including the sierra Nevada, to the river valley where the holes meander along the valley & incorporate various water features/hazards.
The New Clubhouse: Standing majestically on the highest point of the resort offering unbeatable views, the avant-garde architecture and 3000m² surface area has set a new benchmark - a fine example of how to blend space and the Andalusian style. The design the Clubhouse takes into account the spectacular surroundings of Alcaidesa. Open to the countryside, it is a perfect combination of tradition and modernity.

The San Roque Club Formerly the summer residence of the Domecq sherry family, The San Roque Club sits on an enviable backdrop surrounded by lush hills & historic Cork Oak woods. Host of the 1997 Ryder Cup Gala Dinner, it was used as a base for both teams. Venue for the Spanish Open 2005 and 2006 as well as the European Tour Qualifying School Finals from 1993 to 2007, The San Roque Club holds a place in the heart of many a Tour professional. Opened in 1991, and designed by the legendary Dave Thomas, the Old Course is rarely outside the top 5 courses in Spain. The first 9 holes wind through Cork Oaks whilst
the back 9 are dominated by water hazards. The 18th hole can either make or break your game, adding a spectacular finish to some of the most beautiful 18 holes you will ever play. The San Roque Club is almost unmatched for scenery & elegance. Membership is about exclusivity and the sense of belonging to a family of privileged golfers benefitting from the unique experience the club has to offer. The natural beauty of the area, historic clubhouse, two championship 18 hole courses, equestrian centre, tennis and padel courts, gymnasium and renowned Japanese Restaurant Kamakura make it one of Spain’s top clubs.

Almenara is a truly glorious and unspoilt 27-hole complex divided between Los Lagos (The Lakes), Los Pinos (The Pines) and Los Alcornoques (The Oaks) - each very special for their individuality. The greens are usually very quick, which can require some creative thinking and feel to navigate. Los Lagos is a stunning part of the course and a true test of golf. As you would expect from the name, water comes in to play on four of the holes. Los Pinos begins with a Par 5 leading straight downhill before winding its way through a series of superb holes more representative of a parkland course.
This provides a good contrast to Los Lagos, yet retains the need for excellent course management. Los Alcornoques is perhaps the most exposed to the elements of the three sides, and mixes up a selection of holes to test your nerve and accuracy.
Each of the nine holes has it’s own unique character and standout holes - whichever you play, you won’t be disappointed. The tricky par 3, 7th on Los Lagos is a challenge rewarded by its setting - a long iron or wood over a lake to the green which is protected by a bunker at the front. On Los Alcornoques, club selection is vital at both Par 3’s.

La Reserva de Sotogrande is an exclusive golf club situated in a spectacular location, with stunning views of the sea and the mountains. It has an 18-hole golf course covering a surface area of 72 hectares, a driving range, and one of the most salubrious clubhouses in Spain.
The 6,000 m2 Clubhouse has been designed in the purest Andalusian style. It has areas for the exclusive use of members, like the exceptionally large changing rooms, gymnasium, lounges and other member-only facilities. The interior has been very carefully thought out, with handmade wrought-iron fittings and hand woods, lending a rustic

Par 4. A test even to players of the highest level. A classic long par 4 with an impressive lake running along the entire of the right-hand side of the hole right up to the green. The play from the tee is to drive the ball towards the bunkers on the left, but to make the second shot easier you can flirt with the water and benefit from being able to fire your approach at the flag with slightly less concern.

Having received numerous awards, Valderrama is widely recognised as being the best course in Europe and one of the top golf courses in the world. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 1996. In 1997 the Club hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain. In 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of
the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. Valderrama is a private Members’ club, but a limited number of starting times are offered for visitors most days of the year. Hole 4, Par 5. 516m. Trent Jones classified this hole as one of his best par 5s, and described it as a delight to the eye. From the first landing area you look up towards a green that is about 120 feet long and 40 feet wide. Behind it, a spring sends water cascading down along the right side of the green, finally falling about 10 to 12 feet into a lake that sits to the right of the green.

Su Punto de encuentro en Sotogrande
Founded in 1964, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is located on prime golfing land close to the beachfront between the river Guadiaro and Sotogrande marina. Anyone lucky enough to have played at one of Spain’s foremost members’ clubs will be able to confirm Robert Trent Jones was right to take pride in what is an extraordinarily good design. RCG Sotogrande is often voted to be among the top ten golf courses in Europe – and rightly so. “Sotogrande Old”, as it is called by the locals, boasts mature vegetation with pine, cork oaks, eucalyptus and giant palm trees enhancing the natural beauty of the
surroundings. The greens are large with typical Trent Jones contours - and the tees are very long, some would say excessively so, but they allow for variations in pin placement and the length of hole. Signature Holes The seventh is widely considered the best on the course. It doglegs to the left with out of bounds on the same side. The drive should be played slightly right of centre. A precise second shot is required to a narrow, well-guarded green. Any shot bouncing on the left edge of the green will kick towards the centre, so favour this side and stay dry!

Guadiaro
La Cañada
La Cañada Gibraltar
The only municipal course on the Costa del Sol, and a key factor in the fact that the town of Guadiaro produces more Spanish champions than any other place in the country.
The front nine is relatively new, opening in 2001, and was designed by Dave Thomas. The back nine is the original nine holes designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1982. The signature hole is the 18th which is played over the dramatic La Cañada gully. You will enjoy views to the Rio Guadiaro, Mediterranean and Valderrama. The course has excellent irrigation and drainage facilities, so is always in very good condition. This is a
popular course with a large membership. The variety of the holes, and dramatic views of the countryside make La Canada a delight to play.
Signature Holes La Canada’s final three holes are a pure joy. The 16th travels dramatically downhill as it wends its way among a tapestry of trees until it reaches the green. The par-3 17th will doubtless cause havoc to many a player’s card. Although measuring just 135-metres this short hole provides the original “all duck or no dinner” tee shot. The 18th tee also provides a spectacle which is sure to cause a further tightening of the tummy muscles.

Known as Robert Trent Jones’ hidden treasure, La Duquesa is one of the Costa del Sol’s most spectacular and varied courses. With long fairways, the front and back nines offer two distinctly different challenges. The first nine holes are what some refer to as ‘English-style’, with narrow fairways and high greens. The fourth hole, with its magnificent views, is particularly beautiful - but it can easily cause trouble on your scorecard.
Facilities Buggies, Trolleys, Electric trolleys, Driving range, Putting green, Golf lessons, Pro shop, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Gym, Sauna Requirements Handicap Limit: Men 28, Ladies 36 Soft spikes only
The second nine are easier, with wide fairways, although the greens present additional difficulties, providing spectacular views over Duquesa Port, to the mountains and Gibraltar.
On the fifteenth the view even stretches as far as Marbella. Suites Duquesa Golf is the Resorts 5 Star hotel, overlooking the sea and the golf course. Exquisitely decorated with marble and stucco, it also features a Thalaso Spa. Signature Holes The 4th, 5th and 6th holes are known as AMEN CORNER, with a stroke index of 1, 7 and 3 respectively. An outstanding hole is the spectacular par 3 17th, stroke index 16. The wind force will affect your approach, you could play a 7 iron, a pitching wedge or a sand wedge, for this 108m shot. The views on the Africa and the Mediterranean are truly spectacular.

Casares
Casares Costa Golf The objective of Casares is to entertain - and it does this very successfully. Its 9 holes are spread out with a varied design over the flat terrain of a valley and stand out for their fairways, on which precision is one of the keys to a good game. With three par 3’s and one par 5, the course offers golfers the possibility of playing all sorts of shots. The course is not overly long - the par 5, 7th is the longest at 472 m, whereas the 4th hole is the shortest. The prettiest hole of the course, and one of the prettiest of the Costa del Sol, is the 8th, as acknowledged by the majority of the Club’s members. This may be due to the fact that
Casares Golf
La Duquesa
it is a hole for recovery - it measures 298 metres, is completely straight and the green is surrounded by vegetation. The stylish clubhouse is a great place to relax in the bar, or out on the terrace.
Toughest hole: Without doubt the par 5 7th that demands a long and straight drive if attempting to hit the green in 2. Out of bounds on both sides of the fairway and water in front of the green add to the difficulty of the hole. Best Par 3: 4th. Only 100 metres in size but the tee is raised over 80 feet above the green making club selection interesting. Short or long and your in the water.

The English owned golf course has for many years focused on the visiting golfer from overseas, with knowledgeable, multilingual staff always offering a warm friendly welcome. The clubhouse has recently benefited from a €400,000 renovation, where a superb selection of multinational food, wine
and drinks are available in the comfortable restaurant, bar and terrace. With an ongoing course improvement programme in place, a visit to Estepona Golf is always incredible value for money.
Hole 10. Par 4. A beautiful downhill short par 4 with the green surrounded by water. The tee shot is very straight forward if you choose to play safe, however you may feel that at only 250 meters downhill and the wind behind that it is worth having a go with 3 wood or driver. A straight one will make an eagle/birdie very possible - but just slightly out and you are looking at a 6.

El Paraiso Estepona
Designed by Gary Player, El Paraiso was opened in 1973 and is one of the oldest established courses on the coast. For more than twenty years it has been a mecca of golf, whether you are a low handicap or just wanting to enjoy a round of golf on your holiday, the course offers golfers of all ages and abilities an exciting challenge. The setting is incomparable - lush fairways are punctuated by meandering streams, flanked by palm trees and an abundance of exotic fauna, including oleander, jacaranda and mimosas. Lakes provide a home for waterbirds and the golf balls of the unwary!
Without doubt El Paraiso Golf Club is a well designed course that golfers will never tire of playing and will look forward to returning for another chance to conquer!
Hole 6. Par 5. With many good golf holes to choose from, without doubt the 6th, a dogleg left par 5, must be the best hole on the course. The drive has to be accurate to avoid two well positioned bunkers, left and right, and your second shot must favour the left centre of the fairway to miss the lake that catches any wayward ball. Finally, your approach has again to be accurate, to a two tiered green, to give you any chance of that elusive birdie.

Atalaya Golf Created in 1968, Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, the 1925 German Golf Champion who became his country’s finest golf course architect of the time. With wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers of all levels.
Elegant and mature with spectacular views of the magnificent La Concha mountain, it is the perfect oasis of tranquillity on the otherwise bustling and vibrant Costa del Sol. Its apparently benign parkland aspect with gently sloping fairways makes it an ideal course for the average club golfer -
but plentiful bunkers filled with sparkling ‘marmolina’ sand, fast greens, lush vegetation and fairways lined with olive, pine, cactus and eucalyptus trees prove a challenge for singlefigure players as well.
Azahara Muñoz has been using the new Atalaya Golf 3,500 m2 short game area designed by Craig Cook - former design assistant of Robert Trent Jones - and roofed tee at the driving range. This area has just been opened for professionals and their pupils. Azahara has trained at Atalaya for over 11 years with her personal golf coach Fernando Vega Cabeza (Professional of the Atalaya Golf Academy).

It would be fair to say that, in general, hazards are obvious but still manage to trap the unwary. Care is needed off the tees and the wild hitter will soon encounter difficulties. The New Course is rapidly catching up with the Old in terms of quality and in the summer months there are great bargains to be had for
the holiday golfer. Atalaya Golf & Country Club International also offers splendid practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, six short game areas and three putting greens.
There are plenty of scoring opportunities on the New Course, with a solid mix of holes and lengths. Two of the best par 3’s you will come across on any golf course are the 4th - teeing off with a mid-iron from a raised platform over the lake - and the 13th, a long iron or wood to a two tiered green with a steep bank on the left. Par on either of these exceptional holes is a good score. The long par 5 finishing hole will either make or break your score.

Monte Mayor Golf opened in 1989. Designed by José Cancedo, this is a fantastic and challenging Golf Course known as one of the most spectacular on the Costa del Sol. The Golf course is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The valley in which Monte Mayor is laid out clings to the slope of Monte Mayor. The ruins of a 10th Century Moorish Fort crown the summits of Monte Mayor. Monte Mayor’s Fairways are of Bermuda 419. The driving range is breathtaking. Buggies are included with the Green Fee. Starting times every 15 minutes. Amongst the Pros, Alex Cejka, the course record holder (66), practiced
a lot here and enjoyed to work all his shots at Monte Mayor. Monte Mayor is frequently voted into the Top 5 as a golf experience not to be missed.
Hole 3: Probably one of the best Par 3’s on the Costa del Sol. Very intimidating, but a good shot slightly on the right of the pin will take you safely home. Hole 4: A drive then a dilemma: do you go for the green - Glory or Misery - or do you lag your second shot on to the intermediary plateau? Then, to go to the green, you will pass across a lovely rustic bridge and discover the glorious waterfall cascading over natural marble stone.

The club has been working on the landscaping and course quality together with quality of the services. A good example is the interval between each tee-time, which has been amplified for the comfort and benefit of the players - and the club has also incorporated a Bag Drop service in order to simplify the check-in process from the moment the player arrives to club parking until they are on the first tee.

Magna Marbella is a nine hole, par 29 course including excellent practice facilities and driving range with golf school. Situated on the top of Golf Valley, although Magna is ultimately catering for a market where time is valuble, they have not economised on the quality and services they offer.
The clubhouse is elegantly furnished with a cosy atmosphere, and houses the excellent Magna Cafe featuring a terrace that overlooks the golf course, which is usually in immaculate condition. The greens are Magna Marbella’s pride and joy - irrigated with water which is distilled via their own plant. This will ensure
that they are well protected from disease and should be in perfect condition whenever you visit. If you only have time to get a quick round in, enjoying Magna’s nine green jewels could prove an ideal way to spend it. Magna Café has evolved from being a quaint clubhouse bar-restaurant to what is now a quality restaurant exuding Marbella’s typically cosmopolitan ambience. Magna Café has already become an institution with descerning visitors to the Costa del Sol and residents alike. Stylish surroundings, quality creative food & wine, breath-taking views and a ideal location make it a great place to be.

Most visiting golfers have heard of Aloha, it’s one of the best known courses on the Costa del Sol. Like many of the other older ones it has seen substantial improvements in recent years, particularly the replanting of the fairways and a general upgrading of the clubhouse and changing rooms.
Overall there’s a wide mix of holes, characterised by mostly wide fairways although you’ll have big problems if you stray either side of them. All the holes have highly individual, apt names. The second, for instance, is called ‘Uresandi’, the Basque word for a lot of water - and three lakes
certainly is a lot of water. The eleventh is Las Aguilas (Eagles) as the hole is so close to the mountain that twitchers may catch sight of one. Although the club is private, visitors are welcome all year. It’s advisable to telephone in advance - this course is very popular. Hole 2. This picturesque par 4 is just one of the highlights designed by the late Javier Arana. Many will choose to play an iron from the tee for position and take their chances for a birdie on the subtle contours of the green. From the elevated tee, water impedes the narrow landing area of the fairway on the right, with a bunker protecting the green at the front.

Making customers feel happy about handing over their hard earned euros is one of the most difficult achievements to attain in business, but is something that Santa Clara manages on a daily basis. The secret is a well maintained, playable and enjoyable golf course combined with an exceptionally high level of service. From check-in to the first tee, somebody is there to offer helpful advice with a smile. The opening hole sits alongside the 9th, 10th & 18th, all of which lead towards or away from the magnificent clubhouse and one of the best practice facilities on the Costa del Sol. Designed by Enrique Canales Busquets, the
course has been created with respect for the natural environment, indigenous wildlife and vegetation. Santa Clara Golf Marbella provides a stimulating and unforgettable round for golfers of all abilities.
The par 3’s are perhaps where it is most difficult to hold a good score together, with hazards to contend with wide of the target. The 13th measures 139 metres from the ladies tee, 182m from the men’s, and a massive 208m from the pros. Forming part of the course affectionately known as ‘Santa Clara Corner’, (holes 12, 13 & 14) - what also makes this hole so daunting is the lake which protects the front of the green.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones in the late 80’s, this well established Championship 18hole course is 5,867 metres long with a par of 72. Marbella Golf has an imaginative and impressive layout and the course challenges professionals and amateurs alike. Surrounded by lush green hills and olive trees, Marbella Golf is unique, beautiflly complimenting the natural environment, it encompasses one of the largest green areas left on the Coast. Each hole is unique in character and afford views of the azure Meditterranean Sea. The numerous bunkers and lakes have to be successfully negotiated if one is to achieve a
good score. Little valleys, ravines and gullies trap the unwary on the first few holes. The 11th requires particular care, with a sharp dogleg right amidst valleys and hills.
El Olivo Restaurant El Olivo is remarkable in form and content alike. Recently renovated, its elegant design reflects an understanding of eating according to which it’s not just what you have in your plate but a full experience that begins with the setting. In perfect interplay with the landscape outside -one of the most exclusive areas in Marbellathe art deco interior is like a harbinger of what you can find on the menu.

This club has a well-earned place amongst the most elite on the Costa del Sol, offering challenging golf in unparalleled surroundings. It affords views across the course to the Mediterranean, as well as inland to the mountains that lie to the north. The splendid 19th century clubhouse epitomises the charm and character of the club. While not long, the course is full of interest and considered one of the best along the coast; each hole has its own particular character. Many of the tees are elevated and, on a fine day, the views from the 10th to the 16th holes are breathtaking.
The opening hole is a fairly straightforward 289m par-4. The tee shot must clear a small lake and avoid the ravine to the left of the fairway. After that only a short iron should be needed to find the generous putting surface, guarded by three bunkers. The 11th is a spectacular left-handed dog leg, par-4, measuring just 286 meters. The elevated tee is at the highest point on the course, and long hitters will have to avoid running into the lake or bunker. The feature is a well-bunkered green with attractive waterfall. Take a moment to admire the sheer beauty of the setting from the ‘mirador’ behind the 11th green.

Cabopino Golf
Cabopino Marbella
Cabopino Golf is situated on the border between Marbella and Mijas Costa, opposite the charming little marina of Cabopino. The course was designed by Juan Ligues Creus. The layout presents spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding pine forest.
Cabopino Golf allows all categories of handicap golfers to enjoy a day out. At the entrance to Cabopino Golf we find the excellent facilities of the golf Academy and driving range. The driving range has a capacity for 60 players, with a depth of 250 mts, and 160 mts, wide distance markers, bunkers, and the natural
layout amongst the pine forest make an interesting and challenging practise session. The academy offers classes for individual ladies and gentlemen, groups of children, and corporative groups. Amongst the many spectacular holes, the par 4, 3rd would be one to mention. Your tee box perched on the side of the cliff, presents you with a tee shot that has a drop of nearly 200m to the fairway, you then face an elevated green protected by a large bunker. Holes 13 and 15 are also attractive, with streams and lakes. The tenth tee provides a magnificent view of the back nine and the Mediterranean Sea.

Miraflores Golf follows the gentle contours of the Sierra Mijas foothills and affords breathtaking views to the Mediterranean. Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, the course has recently undergone considerable improvements. Measuring 5,148 metres from the yellow tees, each of the 18 holes offers a different challenge - on the fifth and sixth, for example, the first shot has to carry over water. The twelfth is a huge 570 metres, divided by a lake - and there’s even more water danger on the fifteenth, where a moat completely surrounds the green. Members and visitors are always warmly welcomed. This is a family orientated club,
where young and old, novices and advanced golfers can enjoy the game - from practising at the Golf Academy and playing in well organised tournaments to socialising in the Clubhouse. Miraflores Golf Restaurant: In the heart of the Course, diners enjoy spectacular views from the terrace. Renowned for the quality of its food, it is a must place to visit. Open 365 days a year to members and non-members, serving lunch and dinner. The delicious lunch menu is good value and our gourmet dinner and selection of wines is excellent. An ideal place for an intimate dinner, or for entertaining friends or colleagues.

From an elevated tee the view is of a green in a valley below with a small bunker at the front and a larger one to the left; of more significance is the large lake glistening menacingly on the right. The green, which slopes severely from back to front, is colossal and when the new trees spread their palms the hole will be a photographer’s delight and will remain in the memory bank for many a day.

La Cala Resort All three La Cala courses were designed by the renowned course architect, Cabell B. Robinson who was previously employed as Robert Trent Jones’ designer in Europe. Campo America is a 6,009 metre par 72 with five par fives. The topography is similar to Campo Asia but the wide fairways make this a slightly easier driving course. There are fewer fairway bunkers as well but the changes in elevation put a priority on correct club selection. The first three holes offer birdie opportunities to get the scoring going along nicely. After that, no two holes are alike requiring skilful shots to the greens. Campo
America requires accurate and well-judged shot-making on the approach as nearly three quarters of the greens are perched or slightly elevated. Signature Holes The testing index 2, sixth. A par-5 that requires accurate shot making to reach the narrow, elevated green. The spectacular, short 16th with its lake and fountain. From the tee you have a panoramic view of the resort. The downhill 18th, a fantastic par five. A par should be easily achieved on this hole but walking off with a birdie or even an eagle will provide a great talking point at the 19th Hole.

La Cala Resort Campo Asia is not overly long at 5,925 metres but requires accuracy from all the tees. Drives that find the fairways will give the opportunity on most of the holes to attack the pins with the approach shots for potential birdies. Both the fairways and greens are well bunkered, and the majority of the tee shots, many of which are quite dramatic to comfortably wide landing areas, are either downhill or level.

The four par fives, with the exception of the 1st, are reachable in two. Beware of the apparently concealed contours of the greens. Water is present on only two holes and approximately half of the approach shots
are to elevated, well-defended greens. The four short holes offer tremendous variety, and although some require a carry over thick rough, all are easily reachable. This is an exciting course which puts a premium on accuracy and distance control.
The par-3, 2nd: Offers panoramic 360 degree views of the resort to Mijas village and the Mediterranean. The par-5, 14th: The approach shot needs to be accurate as the green is protected by water left and heavy bunkering right. The par-5, 18th: A real risk and reward hole where longer hitters can carry the ravine to set up an iron to the green.

David Leadbetter Golf Academy In addition to the sensational 54 holes of golf on offer, La Cala also has Spain’s only David Leadbetter Golf Academy. Practice facilities include a testing 6-hole par three course, a SAM Putting Lab, a grass driving range and putting and chipping greens.
La Cala Resort The Third Course, Campo Europa, was opened in March 2005. The fairways are generous from the tees and the greens are slightly larger than on the existing courses. They are not severely contoured but are well bunkered and will be easier for the average golfer. The par 71 course measures 6014 metres. Course designer Cabell Robinson stresses the difference between the three courses: “The three courses in La Cala Resort are all very different in character. The new course is the most different of the three because of the river Ojen – the others are in the hills. They are three good challenges and none is over long.
Yet they are all very different in character. It gives a great option to golfers to have three 18-hole courses to choose from.” Cabell went on to stress the advantages of the new course for the average golfer: “The new course is not only dramatic but will also be easier for the average golfer. The fairways are generous from the tees and the greens are slightly larger than on the existing courses.” The par-4 fourth twice crosses the river Ojen. Longer hitters can try to cross with the tee-shot but the safer play is to find the narrow fairway with a fairway metal or long iron. This leaves a long shot to the large, well-bunkered green.

Set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland that was formerly an avocado plantation, Santana Golf has been sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson. The result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design.
Wide and well manicured putting greens are surrounded by strategically placed bunkers with crushed marble sand. Technically speaking, Santana Golf is a demanding course as the unique design of each hole is intended to give a continuous challenge, even
for the more experienced player. It is clear that Cabell B. Robinson has opened a jar of exquisite essences, designing a spectacular & aesthetically superb layout. 4th. Excellent use of the natural features have been made on this very challenging Par 5 hole. Keep left to avoid the bunkers, aim second shot towards the right and hit third shot into the putting surface. A true test for a championship golfer. 10th. The second 9 opens with a Par 5 with a generously fairway and overwhelming scenic beauty. Play right of the bunker followed by a long iron short of the lake. The receptive long green is defended by bunkers.

El Chaparral Golf Club has become one of the most attractive golf clubs on the Costa del Sol, the result of the determination and efforts of Antonio Rubio’s family business. With a premium service from the moment you arrive: a wooden roof covers 90% of the car park, immediate welcome service, collection of golf bags, specialised staff, impeccably decorated changing rooms. With an original design by Pepe Gancedo, this is the only golf course on the Costa del Sol with 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s. With a total length of 6000 metres, it offers a wide variety of holes and is quite a challenging
course, requiring high levels of accuracy and skill. When you have finished your game you can enjoy excellent service and food in the bar-restaurant, either inside or outside on its terraces, surrounded by pine woods and beautiful views over the Mediterranean.
The 8th is a tricky par 4 which requires a tactical approach. From an elevated tee a water hazard runs down the right hand side of the hole. An iron is the play here leaving a fairly short iron into the green. The par 3 tenth is probably the most picturesque hole. Tee off from an elevated position, with Mediterranean views, to a green approximately 30ft below.

Mijas Golf Created by Robert Trent Jones Senior, golf course architect par excellence and world renowned for his work that spreads from the Mediterrranean to the Pacific.
Trent Jones believed that “every hole should be a hard par and an easy bogey”. Mijas Golf International lives up to that belief, maintaining the sanctity of par with Trent Jones’ hallmarks of strategically placed water and sand, yet offering the high handicapper generous but gently undulating fairways and a general impression of wide open space. This is a very popular golfing complex with two superb courses.

Los Lagos, the oldest, dates back to 1976 and is one of the longest on the coast. It is characterised by wide fairways, large raised greens and more than a sprinkling of bunkers; lakes feature prominently on eight of the holes. It has a very open feel, however, as trees are sparse and there is only a little rough. No hole so characterises this course as much the 5th - some 617 yards (564 metres), curving seeming endlessly around a boundary wall and over a full 100 yards (91,44 metres) of fairway bunker, it approaches the green through a narrowing funnel with out of bounds left and large lake to the right.

The main feature which distinguishes this course from the other is the abundance of trees – hence the name – and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended. The Club House is an old Andalusian cortijo
(farmhouse), and beside it, one can feel the continual buzz on the terraces of the Restaurant, where the variety of clientele can be noticed; Mijas Golf has managed to mix, with success, the residents on the area with visitors from all over the world.
The 2nd is a long par 4 for high handicappers. Perhaps best to play as a par 5, watch that bunker on the right. It is a long second shot to the green. Keep to the right. The 8th might be the most difficult par 3 on the course but the par three 14th. is not too far behind. All the problems here are on the left side of the green. Safe shot is short or to the right of the green.

Perched in the hills inland from La Cala de Mijas, with panoramic views over Fuengirola to the East and Mijas to the West lies the delightful new 9 hole course of Cerrado del Aguila. With a superb driving range and practice area and a delightful modern clubhouse you will feel at ease as soon as you arrive.
The holes all have generous fairways that are in superb condition, as are all of the greens and tees. There are several small lakes on the course that are brought into play on a number of the holes, and they too are all very impressive to look at, bordered neatly by large
rocks. The course is not overly long at 5,504 metres off the yellow tee’s, but with 2 par 5’s well over 500 metres having to be played twice it will provide a test for even the longest of hitters.
Toughest hole: The stroke index 1 hole, the par 5 2nd & 11th. Only 502 metres off the yellow tees, but being uphill all the way to the green it would be impossible to hit the green in two even for the monster hitters. If you get a par here you will have done extremely well. Best Par 3: 4th & 13th is 133 metres in length and the tee box sits high above the green. With water in front and to the left of the green it looks very impressive.

Aymerich Golf Center Benalmádena This superb nine hole pitch & putt course with two-tier driving range has recently been added to the Aymerich Golf Management portfolio. Holes range from just 46 meters to 100 meters, but plenty of hazards and interesting features make it a fun layout. Aymerich are keen to encourage current players and visitors to take their golfing experience to the next level as well as giving them confidence to progress from the nine hole to full eighteen at other Aymerich courses. The new improved golf school will cover everything from golf theory and etiquette to
technique. Adults and young golfers who are just starting out will be given all the help they need to get the most out of their game.
Signature Holes Hole 7. Par 3. 59m. A hole that demands accuracy due to the three bunkers surrounding the green. Hole 8. Par 3. 100m. The longest and most complicated hole on the course, with views to the sea, and a waterfall that crosses the left of the hole, making the green very narrow. Hole 9. Par 3. 77m. The green is well defended by three bunkers to the right and a lake to the left. The fairly flat green shouldn’t cause too many complications.

Friendly staff, superb value for money, good quality course, complete with training area including an academy course, spacious natural grass driving range, putting green and chipping green. Continuous improvements have been made to Alhaurin Golf, making it a must for all golf and nature lovers. It is located in Alhaurin el Grande, just above Fuengirola and mid way between Malaga and Marbella.
The trees and plants within the course are typically Mediterranean with plenty of pine trees, Spanish oaks, cypress, orange trees, palms and olives plus a wide range of aromatic plants like thyme and rosemary.
Signature Hole The signature hole is number six, a par five dogleg right with the most amazing tee positions and views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The drop in height from the tees is absolutely unique, and leaves most players with two more shots to reach the green, well protected by bunkers but not difficult to putt. This is one of those holes every golfer must play.

Lauro Golf is a course moderately flat that can be played without buggy. The designers intended that every shot was a challenge for the player, who must keep the concentration all the time and choose the right club. Some holes change their difficulty depending on the direction of the two main winds of the area, Levante and Poniente.
Designed by Folco Nardi and inaugurated in 1992, course and nature bond happily together. Partly in a protected, constructionfree area, Lauro commands superb views over the sea and mountains. Combining technique and strategy, this is recognized as one of the
best courses along the coast. The addition of a further 9 holes in 2003 provided an overall layout which becomes increasingly spectacular as the (literally) thousands of trees mature. 13: Par 5. “Joselito”. Possibly the most difficult hole with out of bounds at both sides, a lake at the entrance of a small green and a bunker behind. 26: Par 3. “Tragabuches”. Less difficult than it seems. Guadalhorce Guadalhorce Golf Club was inaugurated in 1990 and is typified by its friendly family atmosphere. Its impressive Andalusian mansion was built at the end of the 18th century, and is a green oasis in the midst of the busy capital. Apart from the usual club house facilities there are two swimming pools, tennis and paddle tennis courts, basket ball and even a football pitch, although most of these facilities are only available to club members. The Par 72 course was originally designed by Kosti Kuronen, but much of it has now been re-designed by one of its most famous
members, Miguel Angel Jimenz. Visitors playing times are limited to mornings only nor do visitors have full access to the whole of the club’s services. Don’t miss the view from the restaurant terrace - spectacular.
The first nine holes are in a typical English “parkland” style, only two of the holes, the second and fifth are slightly elevated. All the greens however are quite large and fast. There has been quite a bit of earth moving to create a more rugged second nine holes, with the 10th, 11th and 14th to 17th holes being heavily influenced by surrounding lakes and the Guadalhorce river.
From Malaga airport. By far the oldest course on the Coast and inaugurated by the Spanish Royal Family in 1925. Now consisting of 27 holes, the original 18 holes were designed by Tom Simpson, of Muirhead and Turnberry fame. An easy to walk course, although it is a long one, flat, a mixture of links, seawater lagoons and park land, suitable for all levels of golfers but when yet that sea wind blows offering a severe challenge to even the most experienced of golfers. Mostly open fairways, flat and quite easy to read greens, apart from the 9th, 12th and 15th. The course has been rather underrated of late but is now under new
management and in recent years the greens and conditions have been vastly improved. Many visiting golfers like to play this course on the last day of their golfing holiday as it is only a 5 minute drive from Malaga airport. The 9th is a tricky par-3, difficult to reach on windy days, with a subtly contoured putting surface. Once beyond the half-way hut (delicious tapas!), the par-5 12th is the most difficult on the course. The tee shot plays between encroaching trees, the second leaves no room for error and the approach is to an elevated, stepped green protected to its front by a stream.

Baviera Golf has been designed by José María Cañizares, the prestigious professional golfer. Cañizares is one of our most international and charismatic golfers in whose record are 5 tournaments of the European circuit and 2 world championships as well as several participations in the Ryder Cup. Baviera Golf is an even course characterized by its wide greens with many movements and the great variety of obstacles which offer a big range of strokes and an ideal design for all types of handicap. The variety of holes and the unsurpassable
views both to the Mediterranean sea and the mountains contribute to make you enjoy and share an unforgettable day. Signature Holes If you want to get rid of some old balls then keep them for the 3rd hole, you might loose a few here. If you get a par then it might be a good idea to frame the score card for posterity. When you play the 7th hole it would be advisable to avoid the cactus garden on the left, not the kind of hazard one might find at home. For the 14th it might be better if you pack some binoculars in your bag, it’s huge, and if you are really unlucky you might get wet.

From it’s inauguration in August 2006, the spectacular 18 hole TPC course at Santa Clara Golf in Granada has developed into one of the best in the Granada region. Designed by D. Enrique Canales and located in Otura, less than 10 minutes from Granada City centre, the course nestles in the foothills of the breathtaking Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Created with great respect for the natural environment, the course is one of the longest in Andalucia and will challenge players of all standards. The front 9 with its bunkers, “barrancos” and ‘the hill’ is very different from the back 9 which has some long undulating
fairways, a lake and a few well placed trees to contend with - altogether making for an interesting and at times, intriguing game of golf. Try for a birdie on the par 4 6th hole. You never know your luck! Santa Clara boasts a magnificent Clubhouse with a restaurant overlooking the back 9, offering wonderful views of the snow capped mountains from it’s terrace. Here you can get a wide variety of dishes from the excellent menu. There is also a spacious SPA area with Jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish baths, thermal showers and a covered 15 meter long pool. An 80 m2 gym contains the most modern sports equipment.

History, Art & Culture
The province played an important role in the discovery and colonization of America during the 15th century. Christopher Columbus and other famous sailors set sail from these ports on their voyages to the New Continent.
The province of Cadiz is the southernmost of the Iberian Peninsula . It has a perimeter of 586 Km, 260 of which are coastline. It has a surface area of 7,385 Km, divided up into 44 municipal areas. Its population totals just over one million, with the density being just over the national average.
The 18th century, Cadiz’s “Golden Century” was dominated by the growth of overseas trade, giving the city its cosmopolitan character and introducing new liberal ideas and opening the door for democracy which came to fruition with the drafting of the constitution in 1812. The province of Cadiz is an exceptional and unique area, whose qualities will delight those people seeking tourism that reflects true cultural, festive and ecological values, together with the authentic and essentially Andalusian customs and monuments.
Cadiz has an ancient history. The Tarshish and Phoenicians visited these lands more than three thousand years ago. It was here that they built the old ”Gadir” (Cadiz ) around 1,100 B.C., making it the oldest capital in the West. The Romans and the Visigoths also left their marks here. After 711, it was ruled by the Muslims until Alfonso X “The Wise” reconquered it in the middle of the 13th century and it became part of the Kingdom of Castilla.
Many cultures have left their mark throughout Cadiz ‘s long history. Examples of this are the “Tajo de las Figuras” cave paintings in Benalup; two Phoenician sarcophagus es currently in Cadiz ‘s Museum; the Roman remains of “Baelo Claudia” at Tarifa, and the “Carteia” at San Roque. The province has over 30 castles and fortresses, many of which are in a good state of repair. In the field of religious art, the province also boasts an extraordinary collection of monuments. Good examples of this are the Cartuja in Jerez or the cathedrals of Cadiz and Jerez. As far as paintings are concerned, examples of works by El Greco, Murillo, Zurbarán and Goya can be found in many of the province’s churches and museums.

Playing its 18 holes is always fun and surprising: deer, rabbits, ducks and other animals accompany the player along his gentle round. The club house is designed
in neoclassic Andalusia style with Asian influences and subtle furnishings and offers excellent golf services.
Signature Holes Spread over the softly rolling Dehesa hills and set amongst many century old trees, with sweeping, generous fairways flanked by a variety of flourishing, indigenous trees. The long, 550m 12th is a model par-5 hole, this very gently undulating terrain presents memorable golf-course scenery. Four par-5 holes are long and complicated by doglegs; most holes are par-4 and a few piquant par-3s complete what is overall a very interesting course.
