THE GOLF GUIDE TOUR
The Golf Guide Tour The Race to Mauritius 2015
The Golf Guide Tour 2015 & The Race to Mauritius Final came to an end in October at none other than the Home of Golf, with 24 pairs battling for a trip to Spain and the incredible golf trip of a lifetime to Mauritius. The two day event was played on The Duke’s and Eden Course at St Andrews, host to the European Amateur finals in 2014 and in the UK’s top 100 Courses, proved to be everything we expected and more. One of the highlights of the trip was an overnight stay in the iconic Old Course Hotel, an experience for those who made the trip, following in the footsteps of Golfing legends or sampling a few late night drinks in the Jigger Inn and Road Hole bar (you know who you are). Our event started with a damp Dukes Course which played every inch of its 6550 yards after an overnight deluge proved to be a tough test in the Autumnal sunshine. The stunning venue enjoys sweeping views over the town and sea beyond and lived up to its five star billing and left the Golfers breathless in more ways than one. Winners on the day one and booking their places on the plane in February with a great score of 43 were Steve Aspinall & Adam Priestly pipping Lee McMahon and Dave Shaw by one point who saw a 12 inch miss on the last costing them dearly. Monday saw our final 18 holes with 3 pairs still in contention for the main prize played in glorious sunshine which allowed us to see the course in all its beauty but still retaining its bite and proving be a real test of Golf. Scoring proved a lot harder on day two maybe from facing the tough course for a second day or the exertions from enjoying the hospitality
of the previous night in St Andrews, with only 5 pairs breaking par. Our eventual winners on day two Mark Narey & Ian Cummings with a score of 37 points booking the final seats on the plane for February. The Full results from both days were Day One 1st prize winning a Spanish Golf trip: Adam Priestly & Steve Aspinall Nearest the pin on Par 3’s: 3rd Luke Eustace 8th Nigel Yates 12th Paul Brerton 16th Craig Penney Nearest the pin in 3 on Par 5’s: 1st Russ Jacques 6th Craig Penny 11th Stuart Nunn Winner of the Callaway prize pack: Craig Gardner Day Two 1st prize winning a Spanish Golf trip: Mark Narey & Ian Cummings Nearest the pin on Par 3’s: 3rd Paul Higginbotham 8th Dave Shaw 12th Lee McMahon 16th Stuart Nunn
Nearest the pin in 3 on Par 5’s: 1st Robert Cooper 6th Simon Brown 11th Craig Penney Winner of the Callaway prize pack: Paul Higginbotham So to our Race to Mauritius... Wind, rain and sunshine, parkland, heathland and links we had it all... 14 venues, 1200 competitors and finally 2 golfers winning the trip to Mauritius courtesy of Chaka Travel, Constance Resorts and Air Mauritius. 7 nights Half board in the 5 Star Belle Mar Plage and unlimited golf . Our winners with an average of 44.5 points were Luke Eustace & Rob Cooper who have battled against each course (and each other on occasions) and competitors from the Midlands to Scotland to claim the trophy and magnificent prize. Congratulations guys on a well deserved victory! A huge thank you from us all at the Golf Guide team for making this year the best by far, the standards of courses and competitors has made it a enjoyable year with a tough act to follow for the 2016 Tour. A big thank you to our sponsors Martin and Gary at Callaway, Mark & Tim at Chaka Travel, Gary & Etiqus, Simon at Druh Belts, Rob & Fiona at Break90 but most of all the our Golfers old and new, without you the tour would not be the same. Can we improve on it? We think we already have with the 2016 schedule! Thanks again to everyone

The Golf Guide Spain Finals Nov 2015 & Feb 2016
The Venue The Tamisa Golf Hotel in Mijas The Golf Courses Parador, El Chaparral and Cabopino The Weather - Sunny! The 2015 Golf Guide Tour came to a climax with the European Finals being held in the sunshine of the Costa Del Sol in November and February. Over 50 golfers took part in the finals and certainly enjoyed the social element to the game of golf. Stepping off the plane and straight into the first round at Parador Golf Club - which has previously held the Spanish Open. Parador is the oldest course on the coast and inaugurated by the Spanish Royal Family in 1925. Now consisting of 27 holes, the original 18 holes were designed by Tom Simpson, of Muirhead and Turnberry fame. This easy to walk course has a mixture of links, seawater lagoons and park land and enables golfers of all abilities to
compete. With views of the mountains, sea and blue skies, this was a great way to start the weekend with the rain only a distant memory! After some great scores and a few tired ones, it was straight back to the hospitality of John and his team at the Tamisa Golf Hotel. Our base the Tamisa Hotel is situated in the Mijas Golf Valley along side Mijas Golf course, has hosted our finalists for the past 4 years. The stunning 4 Star boutique Hotel with Golf and mountain views couldn’t be more welcoming to the players and provides a perfect base after the exertions on and off the course. Playing at El Chaparral Golf Club with its amazing terrace with fantastic views over the Mediterranean - some really took advantage of the great hospitality of the clubhouse - no names mentioned! Known as the Devils’s course this is the only golf course on the Costa Del Sol with 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s - with its total length of 6000 meters. This is quite a challenging course requiring high levels of accuracy and skill - and for the less fortunate a lot of balls.
The 3rd course played was the charming Cabopino Golf Course - situated on the border between Marbella and Mijas Costa. The layout presents spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding pine forest. This course has many spectacular holes including the 3rd where the tee box is perched on the side of a cliff presenting you with a tee shot that has a drop of nearly 80 meters. This course saw some spectacular shots from our finalists, as Golfers we have all experienced a birdie some an eagle, very few an Albatross but this trip will be memorable for the “crane” shot! (checkout our Facebook & Twitter). The golfers also found time to visit a few of the local eateries and bars on offer during the trip together where friendships were made and cemented with tequila and a spectacular running race. Many thanks to everyone who attended the finals and we hope to see you all soon on The Golf Guide Tour and maybe Spain again!

FEATURED COURSE
Hallamshire Golf Club Hallamshire’s course on the outskirts of Sheffield overlooking the Peak District National Park is consistently rated as one of the best in the North. Immaculately conditioned, it offers a true test of golf. Anybody who has played Hallamshire will testify that it features one of the most challenging opening stretches you are likely to encounter. The course’s elevation on the edge of the Pennines, the prevailing Westerlies and its in-and-out layout, ensures that players need to hang on to what may appear to be a wrecked card on the outward nine before attacking the return where scoring opportunities are usually easier to come by. Trouble starts at the first - a hole described by former European Tour professional Mark Roe as one of the best openers in Yorkshire. It certainly looks the part, but at 467 yards and usually into the wind, a par is very hard to come by. By the time you have got to the second, you will have realised that you need your best putting game too, for Hallamshire’s renowned hand-cut greens are as slick as they are true. The second, at 197 yards is hardly the easiest par 3 to face so early in the round and the green looks the size of a pimple as you stand on the tee selecting your weapon of choice.
With two more long par fours to follow, you may wonder how anybody manages to play to their handicap. But worry not, the toughest start in Yorkshire is out of the way and the chances to pick up shots are now to come. Hallamshire is rated in the top 100 courses in England, and the 6th in Yorkshire, placing it as a “must-play”. Its conditioning is second to none and the scenery is magnificent. Many are taken aback, not realising that a large area of Sheffield is within the Peak District, with its splendid moorland views. It is noted as one of just 400 heather-clad heathland golf courses in the UK by the Sports Turf Research Institute, which describes the course as “prestigious, challenging and attractive”. Designed by the famous Harry Colt and a member of the Colt Courses collection, Hallamshire is characterised by large pockets of heather, gorse and bilberries that are encouraged by an ongoing woodland and grassland management programme.
FEATURED COURSE
The acidic, peaty soil produces beautifully conditioned fairways and those firm, true hand-mown greens that are typically slick in the summer and long into the autumn months, yet they are relatively small and invariably present a challenge to get “up and down”. Hallamshire, the home club of tour star Matthew Fitzpatrick, welcomes visitors to “ Enjoy the Hallamshire Experience” throughout the season. Other notable members are Mary Everard, a four-time Curtis Cup player, and honorary life member Alison Nicholas, the US Open Champion and Captain of the successful Solheim Cup team in 2011. The course is often open in the winter months when many other courses are closed due to waterlogging. The club holds annual Opens and Charity events, such as the Paul Hunter Foundation

South Moor Golf Club
By Andrew Mair
South Moor was designed by the same genius, Dr Alister MacKenzie, who enabled Bobby Jones Junior to realise his dream of creating Augusta National. MacKenzie’s magnificent portfolio includes Royal Melbourne and Cypress Point, dramatically overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the Monterey Peninsula in California. We asked a keen student of MacKenzie, course designer Andrew Mair, who is in partnership with a former Ryder Cup captain, Mark James, to write about South Moor for The Golf Guide. This is Andrew’s main conclusion: “South Moor is an important contribution to Britain’s golfing heritage, a fine example of MacKenzie at his best and great fun to play, a thinking golfers’ paradise. For connoisseurs of the sport, the course should not be missed.” Would you like to hear what Andrew has to say about some of the exciting holes at South Moor? Carry on reading, dear golfer!
Nowhere on the fascinating heathland course at South Moor is Dr Alister MacKenzie’s influence more evident than in the free flowing greens which were to become his trademark on future courses, including Augusta National. Fast and mainly vast, the speed adds to the challenge of negotiating the contours, swales, crowns, tiers and terraces with which MacKenzie has endowed these beautifully shaped greens. It is slopes on greens of this kind which are so often overlooked in designing a golf course and it is one of the most difficult things imaginable to construct them really well. Subtleties of this nature make all the difference between a good course and a bad one. Set in 187 acres of stunning County Durham countryside, South Moor started life as a miners only Coal Board club in 1923. Given the “Made by MacKenzie” connection with the Masters, here is a course which has gone from miners to majors. Amid a natural terrain punctuated by gorse, heather and bracken, the sloping and undulating rig and furrow fairways on the par fours and fives encourage a sense of adventure. As MacKenzie, born in Leeds and the son of a Scottish doctor, put it in his 1920 book Golf Architecture: “There are few things more monotonous than always playing from a dead flat fairway.” At the fifth, for example, there is a huge drop from right to left around a towering green up high and hewn out of the side of a hill, with massive trouble down to the left. Talk about the wow factor! At the ninth, failing to clear the mounding at the front of a green hidden above you - MacKenzie was the British Army’s camouflage expert in World War I - means the ball will run back down towards you. In golf architecture and camouflage
psychology is of enormous value. It enables one to judge what is likely to give pleasurable excitement to the golfer and improvement in moral to the soldier The tenth has the awesome feel of an amphitheatre and, like so many other parts of the course, the gorse and the heather around the turn add to the charm. This is a reminder that when men like MacKenzie, a protégé of the great Harry Colt, designed courses, they did so with nature in mind as well as the golfers. The 13th has a 70-yard green, the longest in Durham County. This means a three-club difference for your approach shot depending on the pin position. Overall, members here clearly revel in a risk and reward experience as against a mean spirited slog with scorecard and pencil the only motivating factor. South Moor is visual proof that the ideal course designer needs the soul of an artist, the brain of an engineer and the heart of a golfer. Each hole is individually designed and not only are there are no replicas, but also what you get here you can’t get anywhere else. You never see any MacKenzie green repeated anywhere. Every green he ever created is different yet a lot of modern course architects roll out a template. So their fourth hole on one course might be a ninth hole somewhere else. As you part company with the course, it’s worth reflecting on how much poorer golf in County Durham would have been if MacKenzie had not been a friend of Basil Sadler, managing director of Holmside & South Moor Collieries. Although, like the coal mines, both men are sadly no longer with us, the name MacKenzie is forever enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame. The club motto at South Moor, nil nisi optimum, is appropriate. Translated from the Latin, it means “nothing but the best”.

JOHN WELLS WINS MALTON AND NORTON PRO AM SPONSORED BY TADWELD
Winning Pro John Wells collecting his prize
Malton and Norton Golf Club held their annual Pro Am on Friday 6th May, a fixture that signals the start of the Yorkshire PGA Pro Am season. Last years winner Alex Belt was unable to
defend his title, and Snainton GC stable mate John Wells took full advantage, carding an impressive 5 under par 67 to claim the honours, and with it a cheque for £1000. The winning team came home with an impressive score of 19 under par, and was led by professional Nial Murphy, along with amateurs, M Kensit, S Moyser and D Sanderson. A special thanks was given to Tadweld Steel who very kindly sponsored the event.

IT’S ALL HAPPENING AT WHICKHAM GOLF CLUB! 2016 will prove to be another landmark year for Whickham Golf Club. The new hollinside park course layout and new Sport England Academy Practice Facilities opening later this year. The Club has continued to flourish and has reinvested substantially to develop its course with a redevelopment plan that has transformed the original par 68 into a challenging par 71 layout. The original 3rd and 4th (Quarry) holes have been blended to create a demanding par 5, 3rd hole. A new 4th hole is a par 4 dogleg which rises gently up Bird Hill to a green that features spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The new par 3, 5th is a testing 205 yards to the original but reshaped 5th green. The 16th hole was remodeled and brought into play last season
and features 5 new bunkers. This original par 4 is now designated, a par 5, you will do well to avoid the bunkers. The Club’s practice facilities are experiencing a serious make over thanks to a successful Inspired Facilities award from SportEngland. Planning approval has been received and work is about to begin on a covered, three bay driving range and an indoor teaching suite equipped with the latest GC2 simulator. There will also be a first class short game practice area alongside the existing practice putting green. The Club has been working to ensure the new Academy Facilities are used to fulfil the commitment we made to SportEngland “to provide first class golf development in our community”.
First winner on the Lindrick’s blue course The newly lengthened blue course at Lindrick was used for the first time on Sunday to stage the Lindrick Scratch Open. With over a hundred applications the field was cut to 64, all with handicaps of 2 and below to make a top quality field for the 36 hole event. On a very gusty day the new course certainly took no prisoners. Only Lewis Hollingworth (Tankersley Park) recorded a sub par round of the morning with a leading 2 under par 68. The afternoon proved even tougher with Louis Booth (Worksop) and Ben Brewster (Wheatley) both shooting the second round low scores of 71, to give Brewster a gross 145, the clubhouse lead and a long wait until Hollingsworth returned a second round card of 77 to tie for first place.
Lindricks par 3, 18th proved to be an ideal play off hole with the crowd gathering on the banking above the green to watch the thrilling finale. Both players missed the green but still returned pars on their first attempt and had to go back to the 18th tee for a second time. With tension mounting Hollingsworth found a bunker and was unable to get up and down while Brewster hit the green and two putted to win the playoff. It was very appropriate that after recently winning the US Masters, the trophy for the event, The Danny Willett Salver, was presented by Lindrick Captain Tony Grayson to winner Ben Brewster (+2). In joint third place on 9 over par (149) were Matthew Evans (Rotherham), Keir Stockdale (Worksop) and Dan Housley (Horsley Lodge).
Hole in one at Lindrick’s Senior Open Lindrick’s Senior Open notched a first yesterday when Steven Lee recorded his first hole in one at the 172 yard 11th. Steven, 63 from Brough GC said “I’m amazed a a little stunned. To have my first hole in one is great but to do it in a big competition is even better and to win a set of irons in the Hole in One Challenge as well just makes the whole day very special”. Tony Barker organiser of The Likely Lads golf society described the shot “It looked very good in the air and we knew it was going to be close so when we heard the cheering from
the halfway house we knew it had gone in”. Lindrick pro John King said “ We’ve added a free set of irons to the prize fund last year for the Hole in One Challenge and we’ve just been waiting for someone to knock one in and collect the prize. It felt good to be able to recognise Steven’s achievement with a great prize which completed a fantastic day, we’ll be offering another set of irons at our next open”. Despite the 4 pointer, Steven and his partner could only finish mid table as Jim Kirkham and Miles Webster from Oakmere Park took the overall prize on count back with 41 points.

The brainchild of keen golfer and occasional gambler David Morgan, from Birmingham, Golflutter uses the same premise as the Tote in horse racing in that the money won depends on how much is staked that day. The free app selects the individual daily ‘challenge’, and, within that challenge, also selects randomly the scoring holes, thus reducing the opportunity for manipulation as golfers are unaware of the ‘hot’ holes. There are six different ‘challenges’ or bets each costing £5 - all played on the ‘hidden holes’ chosen by the app, with one ‘challenge’ available each day. They cover scores across four, six or nine holes, and challenge the golfer to go under par, or record a nett birdie or eagle. The beauty of Golflutter is that it can be used by both golf club members and nonmembers alike, as the app will generate a handicap - after the first three rounds - if an official version is not available. The maximum available handicap is 20. Morgan explained: “I anticipate Golflutter will prove popular with golfers on society days or when they are enjoying a social round of golf. However, its simplicity means it is also suitable for when members are participating in club competitions or a roll-up.
“Honesty and integrity is inherent in the game of golf and Golflutter is no more susceptible to ‘banditry’ than the sport itself. And that’s why we think it will chime with the majority of golfers who enjoy a bet. And, to deter anybody who believes they can beat the system, we’ve invested in extremely sophisticated safety and security software. “Golflutter allows potentially thousands of like-minded golfers who may want a bet on themselves to have a secure and regulated place where they can do just that. Like the Tote’s Jackpot and Placepot in horseracing, golfers’ bets are placed in a pool, with the number of those who successfully complete a variety of challenges taking a proportionate share of the pot.” Golflutter has all of the UK’s 18-hole golf courses registered on its system - nine-hole courses cannot be used for logistical reasons - with a golfer’s smartphone GPS software allowing the app to ensure golfers are where they say they are when they begin a round. Each registered Golflutter player has a virtual ‘cash wallet’ within the app into which funds are placed for placing bets and receiving winnings. Morgan added: “The whole concept is about adding a little extra spice to a round of golf and just taking a facet of the game which has always been there and bringing it into the 21st century using the technology and sophisticated security available to us.
“This new dimension, available on nearly every round of golf you’ll play, means that just because you didn’t win on the day, you can still be a big winner with Golflutter*.” *Terms and conditions apply www.golflutter.com

Ad In The Hole An International based business selling golf hole advertising is looking to expand into Yorkshire and the North East following successful sales in other parts of the UK and Worldwide. Ad In The Hole, which is basically a replacement plastic golf hole with a removable disc displaying an advert in the base, is already a hit Worldwide in over 23 countries. Now CEO David Bainbridge who owns the worldwide rights to AITH is targeting the North East and Yorkshire. Bainbridge said: “It’s a fantastic idea for golf clubs to increase their revenues, get free product and associate themselves with local business - whilst advertisers themselves get free golf and sponsorship at a very competitive price.” He added: “It’s a subtle yet very powerful
form of marketing and there is an option for packages from 18 holes, the practice putting greens and full glossy magazines. AITH UK already has a sales force worldwide, who sell the sponsorship in the holes to clients once a golf club has agreed to host the product. But now AITH UK is on the look out for more agents on a generous commission pay scheme. SGH Sports Management Like Tiger Woods’ iron play and the price of a green fee, retirement from professional golf just isn’t what it used to be.
Gone are the days when a sleepy retirement as a club pro was the only option, a fact never truer than in the case of former European Tour pro turned sports travel entrepreneur Simon Hurd, a journeyman of just over 100 pro events spanning a 13 year career and now director of SGH Sports Events. After graduating the Tour School at the first attempt in 1995, Hurd found early Tour life difficult, having to wait until 2002 to win his first Challenge Tour title at the Rolex Swiss Open. This helped propel him into the bright lights of the European Tour, where a career highlight came in the form of a 10th place finish at the 2007 Johnnie Walker Classic. “I shot a third round 66 that week, which I think was only bettered by Brad Kennedy first up,” he remembers, “I played with Ernie on the final day which in itself was a pretty special experience, and it was great to look up at see my name on the scoreboard with guys like Monty and Retief.” He appreciates how lucky he was to live the dream for so many years, and though it was tough at times, only has fond memories. “I loved tour life. Being paid to do what we love is everybody’s dream, and I lived it to the full, but it was towards the end of my time on the tour that I realised that there is life after golf.”
Hurd was a hugely popular figure on tour and remains close friends with household names such as John Daly, Jamie Donaldson and Ian Poulter, with whom a chance conversation grew into a whole new chapter in his life. “Poults and I were talking about a well-known belt manufacturer and how we thought the quality of their brand was pretty shoddy. They were very expensive too, and within weeks I set about filling the gap in the market for high quality, affordable golf belts.” What materialised was Druh, an affordable golf fashion brand that now supplies its products not only to individuals such as Lee Westwood and Robert Karlsson, but also the European Ryder and Solheim Cup teams. But like all great entrepreneurs, Hurd isn’t done there. With fellow Yorkshireman and lifelong friend Andrew Jennings, he has formed SGH Sports Events, a sports travel company that is rapidly growing a reputation for offering incredible access to some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. “I always had the mickey taken out of me by mates who couldn’t quite get hold of the tickets I could, through friends or contacts I’d made through golf and Druh, and it struck me that there wasn’t a company out there that would provide this level of access for a reasonable price.”
Alongside Hurd, former British Amateur Ladies Champion and Curtis Cup winner Kelly Tidy has joined the company as an ambassador and will accompany Hurd and the rest of the touring party to the Masters next year. “It’s great to have Kelly on board, and we can’t wait to get across to Augusta again next April. The packages we’ve been putting out have been hugely popular and already we’ve got 45 people joining us on the trip.” “Followers of golf don’t need me to tell them, but The Masters really is something special. You’re watching history with every stroke and to actually be there to witness Tiger’s chip or Bubba’s wedge, well it’s priceless.” 2016 SGH Masters packages are still available, and the difference, Hurd says, is in how bespoke the service is. “At the end of the day, it’s your experience, so the itinerary is entirely up to you. Our job is simply to make sure that we’re there to help you every step of the way.” Would you like to sample the experience of a lifetime at the 2016 Masters? Devel Golf The future of pitch mark repair You may not have heard of Devel Golf given that they only launched in November 2015. However, given their creative designs, it is a brand you will soon be hearing lots more about. With a focus on innovation and quality, Devel Golf aim to break from conventional golfing traditions and create products with a functional difference. Their first product, The Devel Pitchfork, epitomises this ideology. Designed and manufactured in the UK, The Devel Pitchfork is a revolutionary new type of pitch mark repair tool. Comprising a unique three prong design, The Devel Pitchfork delivers improved pitch mark repair by ensuring only damaged turf is repaired. Duncan Campbell, the founder of Devel Golf, said: “The three prong design corresponds to the shape of a pitch mark. The longer central prong penetrates to the base, while the two outer prongs repair the edges of the mark. The result is less damage to the soil surrounding the impact area and faster repair.” “The technique for effective pitch mark repair remains the same with The Devel Pitchfork.
Simply insert the Pitchfork at the edge of the pitch mark and gently pull the edges inwards. Repeat this several times and the pitch mark will be fully repaired with minimal damage to the greens.” “We believe The Devel Pitchfork is the future of pitch mark repair. We spent over 8 months developing the product, constantly refining and improving to get it to where it is today. Whether it be the three prong design, the high quality anodised aluminium, laser etched logo or chamfered prongs, we believe The Devel Pitchfork is the essential accessory for any golfer.” “The Devel Pitchfork is the first of many new accessories the company hopes to launch – with further products planned for 2016.” The Devel Pitchfork comes with magnetic ball marker and is packaged in a beautiful presentation tin, making it the perfect gift for any golfer. For corporate and society orders the ball marker and packaging sleeve can be customised with a chosen logo or text (min order required).
The Devel Pitchfork is available to buy now from the Devel Golf website for £7.99. Further information and purchase details can be found at www.develgolf.com

After the excitement of Danny Willett’s last gasp Masters win, the final stages of the 2016 Heathland Classic was able to match all the drama and tension as closely as any amateur tournament could possibly hope for. The 180 competitors in the three day competition were down to a final two teams in contention as the pairs started the back nine at Notts. Howley Hall’s Phil Staunton (9) and Martin Barber (8) had led from day one with outright victories at both Sherwood Forest and Lindrick and had a 4 point cushion from second placed Andrew (14) and Simon Green (5) from Sudbrook Moor. The Green brothers were the reigning Champions and determined to keep their hands on the trophy - the back nine is were the real drama commenced. Day one started at Sherwood Forest in near perfect conditions. The recent dry spell had made the fairways very firm and that added to the challenge of the course that was beautifully presented. Gary Strang (secretary) “excitement was high as everyone collected their goody bags and were announced on the tee by the starter.” Early scores of 41 points recorded by Paul York and John Tilley (Burghley Park) tied with Dan Crouch and Thom Gallager (Crews
Hill) looked to have set the bar until Staunton and Barber posted a very impressive 43 points with the Green brothers ominously positioned in joint second to signal the dogfight that was to follow. Onto day two at Lindrick where new course manager Neil Horton had the fast greens matching the reputation that Lindrick has always been famous for, or judging by the scoring maybe that should be infamous? Course knowledge proved to be invaluable as the Lindrick pairing of Julian Maturi and Jon Simpkin were clubhouse leaders for most of the day with a 42 point tally and clubmates Bailey Gill and David Allsopp next best only one behind but late in the day Staunton and Barber threw in a spectacular 24 point score on the back nine to finish on 43 points and take their second daily prize. The Green brothers stayed in contention with 39 points whilst Peter Crockford and Tim Lloyd (Puttenham) took the third place prize on countback.

Simon Green, Notts Captain, , Clive Bentley and Andrew Green with trophy
Day three at Notts saw all the pairings going out in (reverse) leaderboard order which paired the overall leaders Staunton and Barber last out with Andrew and Simon Green defending a 6 point margin. While the order of play has a feeling of the ‘walk of shame’ for the early starters there was still a lot to play for with a cash prize for a hole in one on the 5th and a trip to the 2017 Masters for two for a hole in one on the 9th. Golfbreaks.com sponsored the prize with a value of £12,000 and manager Graham Collins was on the hole ready to make the award. He said “It was great to meet everyone who had obviously really enjoyed the whole event and I was willing someone to knock it in and have the dilemma over who to take with them to Augusta”. Sadly no one took the prize. Roy Sammons (Hinault) collected a £50 voucher as a consolation prize. The 5th however was a different story with Graham Rye (11) aceing the hole and taking with it the £1,500 cash prize, no doubt his fellow members at Bondhay will be joining him to celebrate his success as he also aced the 3rd at Lindrick in the 2015 Yorkshire Challenge, the odds of that double must be enormous! With the threat of heavy rain in the air on the final day at Notts, secretary Martyn Bonner did a fantastic job keeping play moving and the course held up superbly to the rain as the early starters took advantage of the drier conditions. Bondhay’s Michael Wheatley and David Collins put a disappointing two days behind them to post a magnificent 45 points and be clear clubhouse leaders by early afternoon. The competition uses the Golf Genius live scoring system so all competitors can see the scores via an App on their phone at both the halfway and 18th hole. Tournament Director Luke Allen told us “the Golf Genius system adds to the event and makes it just like a professional competition where you can watch how you are doing on a live basis. It creates a lot of excitement in the clubhouses and gives immediate feedback to
all the players, we don’t want to inconvenience anyone by having to ‘ring the proshop’ the next day, that’s too much like the 1990’s and not consistent with our mission to provide the best environment that we can for our competitors.” As the rain set in the leading pack were in the clubhouse. A total of 120 points had the overall prize tied between three teams. Leading team was Jonathan Graves and Michael Upton (Kenwick Park) on countback from two Lindrick pairs, father and son team Steve and Chad Gee (grandad was further back with 113) and Sam Rook and Neil Conway who were all anxiously consulting the screens and their phones for news of the final four ball. As they stood on the 10th tee the Green’s had narrowed the gap to 4 points and it was a virtual matchplay event now. A gross birdie with a shot from Andrew Green on the 11th closed the gap to 2 points, the 14th saw them level as Andrew notched a 3 pointer against just one from Phil and the early leaders were now
behind for the first time in 43 holes. Andrew’s good form continued with 10 points from the last 4 holes, closing the door on Phil and Martin who could only counter with 7, to retain their title, the trophy and £600 in cash in addition to the day prizes. Gracious in defeat Phil said “It’s difficult to maintain your form over three consecutive days on three top and very tough tracks such as these. The winners know Notts very well and it showed. They turned the day into a matchplay event and put us under pressure at every turn, we just couldn’t get on the tee first. They played very well, congratulations to them, they won it on merit, we didn’t lose it.” Phil Green said “We’re speechless, after our start our expectations were to try for a top three spot and as the conditions became tougher we just kept going. To win the title again is unbelievable.” Andrew added “We are very competitive and though we never thought we could do it again we just never gave in. We had that little bit of luck you always need if you are going to win and then we just kept going and going.” For the record the Notts Captain Clive Bentley presented a large collection of trophies and day prizes to the Greens who also won the Notts title with 45 points on count back from Wheatley and Collins with Graves and Upton in third place. For those wanting to enter the event in 2017 news from the secretary at Sudbrook Moor is that in recognition of his success Andrew Green is being cut 2 shots to a handicap of 12, perhaps giving the field a chance of preventing the treble? heathlandgolfclassic.co.uk

Turn Eight starts at the front The motorsport season aligns well with the golf season, so it made sense for us to renew our relationship with our driving friends for another term. The team race locally at Oulton Park on June 25th, contact us for tickets! With the intention of bringing greater awareness to your courses and providing interesting content away from the course we have teamed up with Turn Eight Racing. The team races in the National Toyo Tyres Porsche Championship with the BRSCC. Driver Gavin Johnson is an 11 Handicapper, Jess Shanahan a 28 and Pip Hammond is currently spending time at the range learning to play. Pip has certainly mastered driving as the report below clarifies! The team has recently received nationwide coverage in industry and local press and is guaranteed television coverage via Sky TV Motors Channel throughout the season. All of the team will spend some time at The Golf Guide Tour events this year and will spread good word of our publication and your course far and wide. The team are always looking for support so if you would like to get involved please contact jess@turneight.co.uk or the drivers via twitter @gavinjohnson09 @racerhammond or facebook www.facebook.com/gavinjohnsonracing www.facebook.com/pip-hammond
Turn Eight Racing has begun its first ever season in the best possible way. Entering a Porsche 924 in the BRSCC Toyo Tires Porsche Championship season opener at Snetterton. The car was qualified in second position and driven to victory in all three races, registering fastest lap in each - driven on this occasion by Lincolnshire racer Pip Hammond. The weekend had begun with the final finishing touches to the car’s livery with team boss Jess Shanahan. As simple as this would seem, applying decals has perhaps the largest single impact in terms of appearance - so many swears and pursed lips later, the car sat looking beautiful. We hope you’ll agree! Starting the first race alongside championship favourite Nizar El-Chamaa, the battle that could have been was extinguished early. El-Chamaa was tipped into a lap 1 spin by a slow-starting car from the Boxster class, and Hammond was able to make a small gap to the chasing pack until the race was ended early for a crash between
two other cars. Victory number one in the first attempt for the team! Race two was a much more exciting affair. After a botched start, Hammond was fourth into the first corner but rallied back to retake the lead by the end of lap two with a thrilling move at the high speed Coram bend. From there the gap grew to over eight seconds by the end of the race, with the fastest lap of the weekend. Two from two! The third race of each weekend features a full reverse grid, which put Hammond on the back row, but after a great start he entered the third corner in third position already! By the end of the lap it was second, and shortly into lap two, the Turn Eight Porsche was back in the lead! Hammond then paced himself while managing the car’s worn brake pads, although still did enough to come away with fastest lap a third victory in two days. He was also awarded the tradition “Barn Ruche” Trophy, first awarded in 1973 to a victorious driver at Snetterton in a championship chosen by the circuit’s marshals as the most entertaining - and had not been awarded since 2013. Hammond was a little shocked with the success first time out: “I’m really surprised we were competitive straight away like that! We are both still learning the car and making the transition from front wheel drive so to be so successful this early in the season is way beyond expectations, and with more track time and experience we’ll just keep getting faster! I’m really keen to see how Gavin [Johnson] gets on in the next round” Turn Eight Racing would like to thank partners Turn Eight Motorsport PR, The Golf Guide, Compomotive Motorsport Wheels, Orion Group and Humberside Tints - Vinyl Wrapping - without whom racing this season would not be possible. Round two is 14-15 May at Rockingham in Northamptonshire, and this time Runcorn’s Gavin Johnson will be at the wheel.

North Yorkshire Introduction
North Yorkshire North Yorkshire is England’s largest county with an area of more than 800,000 hectares to explore. The county is fascinating, and no matter what your interest or time to spare, offers a huge range of activities and attractions. The county of North Yorkshire stretches across Northern England from its spectacular coastline in the East, across Moors and fertile valleys to the Dales in the West, and attracts millions of tourists who flock to see its traditional market towns, beautiful countryside and historic sites. The county’s greatest asset is its wonderful scenery, whether
it is the NorthYork Moors, to be enjoyed on foot, by car or steam railway or the beauty and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales. Both the Dales and the Moors have been brought into people’s living rooms across the world by the success of television series such as the stories of James Herriot and the Heartbeat adventures. Along the 45 miles of coastline there are the traditional resorts of Scarborough and Filey and Whitby. The ruins of monasteries scatter the county at places such as Rievaulx, Jervaulx and Fountains Abbey - a World Heritage site.
The Harrogate District is a mixture of beautiful landscapes, flourishing towns, villages and heritage sites. Harrogate has a rich spa history, combined with parks, gardens and floral displays. Close by is the medieval market town of Knaresborough, famous for its 14th Century ruined castle and Mother Shiptons Cave. There are also spectacular memories of bygone days in North Yorkshire with magnificent structures which have stood for centuries. Selby Abbey and Ripon Cathedral are two of the finest examples of English architecture to be found anywhere in the world. North Yorkshire is indeed a land of diversity.

Nestling in the Vale of Pickering, east of York and a few miles from the coastal resort of Scarborough, a day at Ganton is a day to remember. Golf was first played at Ganton in the summer of 1891 on a course laid out by Tom Chisholm of St Andrews who had assistance from Robert Bird, the Club’s first professional and head greenkeeper. The site chosen then formed part of Sir Charles Legard’s Ganton Estate and was very rough ground, covered with whins and many varieties of grasses and wild flowers. Thousands of years previously this area had been submerged as part of an inlet from the North Sea, and the natural sandy subsoil was an ideal place to develop a golf course. Distance from Scarborough was eleven miles by road, but development was more influenced by the North Eastern Railway Line with Ganton Halt being ¼ mile from the Clubhouse. The proximity of a railway was often a factor in the development of golf courses in the 19th Century, particularly so in Ganton’s case as the membership extended to those living in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Ganton was soon established as a course where history was to be made. In 1896 Harry Vardon came as professional and it was during his stay (to 1903) that he won the first three of his six Open Championships, and it was to Ganton that he brought back the U.S. Championship Trophy in 1900. Ganton has hosted a succession of major amateur and professional tournaments for men and women. In 1964 the Amateur Championship was played with Michael Lunt just failing to defend from the previous year, losing to Gordon Clark in the final at the 39th. In staging the Amateur Championship again in 1977 (Peter McEvoy, the 1999 and 2001 Walker Cup Captain, was the winner) and 1991 (the winner was Gary Wolstenholme) Ganton remains the only inland course to have held the competition. Indeed Gary Player once said of Ganton that it is the only inland course worthy of holding the Open Championship. Ganton is proud to have been so closely linked with the story of British golf. Deep and prolific bunkers, savage rough and impenetrable gorse have made for a searching examination of the game’s best players.

KIRKBYMOORSIDE
Approaching Kirkbymoorside from Thirsk on the A170, turn left at the roundabout into the town (if approaching from Pickering turn right). Follow the main street until you reach a mini roundabout at the top of the town. Turn left, and then take the first turning right (brown sign to golf course) about 150 yards down the road. Follow the road (Manor Vale) through the wood until you reach the Golf Club car park.
Kirkbymoorside Golf Club offers a challenging golf course set in a beautiful, quiet, rural surrounding on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.
to test your golf on a gem of a course in the peace and tranquillity of superb countryside then you can do no better than enjoy the hospitality offered at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club.
Whatever the time of year, you will be impressed with the spectacular scenery and the peace and quiet which will surround you during the whole of your round. The view over the moors from the 13th tee is unsurpassed in the whole of the North of England. Looking away from the moors, the course offers distant views of the Yorkshire Wolds and The Hambleton Hill – both areas of outstanding natural beauty. If you want
Signature Holes Like all courses, Kirkbymoorside has its signature holes. Whatever your handicap the ‘right to left’ drive from the 7th tee will provide a true test to those seeking par and the 10th is not named the ‘widow maker’ for nothing. It’s a tough drive on the par four 13th, but the view from the tee out to the moors past the village of Gillamoor, makes even the poorest tee shot (almost) forgettable.

The KP estates’ rolling terrain adds a challenge to every shot of its 6035 yard par 70, testing every aspect of your game. As soon as you set foot into the Glasshouse you will witness a truly unique golfing experience laid before you, from the welcome and the laid back vibe to your check in and the apres golf celebrations. At KP Club you will leave feeling fantastic and eagerly anticipating your next round...
KP Clubs rapid rise as one of the areas top golfing destinations has seen us stage ‘The William Hunt Trilby Tour’ in 2010, 2011 and 2012 - an event watched by millions of viewers on Sky Sports TV. Signature Hole The signature hole of the course is the Par 5, 4th hole that measures 605 yards. The fairway is guarded by a huge old oak tree before a tight approach to a well guarded green; the views from this green take in the Vale of York and York Minster itself , quite often playing into the prevailing wind – a hole whereby a par on here really is a fantastic score.

Moreover, few facilities offer such a close tie with accommodation in the adjacent town centre, providing the
ideal stay and play situation. At just under 6,500 yards, the course offers a true test to golfers of varying abilities, generous fairways and beautiful scenery abounds. Although Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club dates back to 1909, the present course was designed by James Braid and established in 1928. The course starts on the cliff top and then moves inland threading its way between trees and spinneys, with lovely views of the North Yorkshire Moors before returning to the cliff top for the final three holes. The course is sufficiently undulating to be interesting without being excessively hilly and is a tough but fair test for golfers of all abilities. With the prevailing wind from the west the first five holes provide a stiff test of golf and par on these holes is a good start.
The short 7th and the par 5s at 8 and 9 provide some respite before the next major test “Amen corner” (10, 11 and 12) is tackled. Hole 10 requires a long straight drive and the 11th is a memorable hole played from an elevated tee over water to a green surrounded by trees. The 12th is a testing dogleg played around trees to the right to a raised green. The 13th and 14th are birdie chances as the course winds its way back to the 15th tee where once again the sea comes into view. The homeward run has glorious sea views across the North Bay towards the Castle before arriving back at the Clubhouse where a welcome drink awaits.

How to Find
SCARTHINGWELL
Within easy driving distance of both Leeds and York, we are situated just outside of the village of Towton on the A162 which runs between Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet. For those traveling from further afield, Scarthingwell is located within 10 minutes drive of the A1M and M1 motorways.
An easy-walking 18-hole course, Scarthingwell is set in tranquil rural surroundings and has become well established since its opening in 1990, providing a fair test for golfers of all abilities, as well as gaining a reputation for its friendly and informal atmosphere. The Course is owned and managed by members of the Pick family who developed the site from jointly-owned land in the early 1990s and still live near by, having farmed in the area since 1925. Each of the partners plays an active role in the day-to-day operation of the Golf Course and at least one partner is usually on-site at most times of the day.
The Head Greenkeeper at Scarthingwell is John Waite, who has held the position since 1995. Together with his three assistants, John works closely with the owners in maintaining the excellent standard of the course. Signature Holes You can enjoy stunning, panoramic views of the Yorkshire countryside on this course but remember to pay as much attention to the 9th and 10th holes. The 9th is a tricky par-3 with an approach to a severely guarded green, whilst the 10th includes a dog leg and an approach over water.

Yorkshire & North East Golf Guide
West Yorkshire Introduction
West Yorkshire West Yorkshire has a great deal to offer visitors to the county with its heritage attractions, grand stately homes, green open spaces, canals, towns and cities. Composed of the districts of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield, a network of paths and cycle-ways both in towns and the countryside allow for easy access to the many sites of interest. Leeds – once the hub of the North based on its manufacturing and textile industries, is now a leading vibrant legal, finance and retail centre by day and lively cosmopolitan city by night. Award winning restaurants, wine bars, music venues, theatres and art galleries offer
a vast array of entertainment to satisfy any appetite. Vanguard architectural sites such as Bridgewater Place, 1 City Square and the Waterfront properties sit comfortably with the historic structures of the Corn Exchange and Leeds Kirkgate Market. An exciting retail experience is on offer with the likes of Harvey Nichols nestling next to the renowned Victoria Quarter, boasting an abundance of boutiques as well as well-known high street names. Leeds is also the sporting home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, the most decorated Club in County Cricket History, and of course the celebrated Leeds United Football Club.
Proud of its long and important history, Bradford is home to a number of important historical buildings and sites; including one of only two World Heritage Sites in Yorkshire, and the most visited museum outside of London. The city has a lively multicultural vibe with a variety of diversions including the esteemed Bradford Alhambra Theatre. From a golfing perspective, West Yorkshire is home to some of the best inland courses in Britain. Included in this list are Alwoodley, Moortown and Moor Allerton who all sit proudly in the list of the top 100 courses in England.

BRACKEN GHYLL
From Ilkley follow the A65 signposted Skipton, at the roundabout at the top of the hill on the Addingham by-pass turn right towards Addingham village, then at the next T-junction turn left and the entrance to the golf club will be approx 300 yards on the right hand side.
Bracken Ghyll Golf Club was founded in 1993 as a 9 hole course but has developed rapidly into one of the most enjoyable and challenging 18 hole courses in the North of England. It is a vibrant progressive club with increasing membership set in the spectacular landscape of the Yorkshire Dales. The “National Club Golfer” magazine describes the course as “With two distinct halves, the 5,600 yards layout is an intriguing mix of the old and the new, with a common theme of undulating parkland which is surprisingly mature for its age. A warm welcome and immaculate fairways and greens
are reasons why so many visiting parties choose Bracken Ghyll on a regular basis”. The course is complemented by outdoor and indoor practice areas, a well appointed bar with catering, a function room that can accommodate up to 120 guests, extensive car parking and a warm Yorkshire welcome. Signature Hole: The short 17th “Quarry Hole” is Bracken Ghyll’s signature hole. A par three 148 yards off the white tees demanding an accurate tee shot to a raised green flanked down the right by a stream that gathers many balls. It can be a card breaker at the end of your round.

Celebrating its 125 anniversary The Bradford Golf Club has been a Herbert Fowler masterpiece since 1923, but traces its historical roots much farther back in time to 1891. The last two years have seen the club embark on a thoughtful re-discovery of its Fowler heritage, with the aim of realigning holes to offer an enjoyable round of golf for the mid to high handicap golfer and a more challenging golf course for the low handicap golfer, with the 17th described as iconic. Set in 6,3000 yards, with stunning views over Baildon and Rombald Moors.
The course runs in two loops with the 10th and 18th holes finishing outside the clubhouse. The once tree-lined fairways are now more open and natural, fast greens with subtle borrows are a true test for any golfer. The course continues to be used for prestigious Yorkshire Championships and is the home of The Hawksworth Trophy, a 36-hole strokeplay competition for the leading amateur golfers in Northern England. The Clubhouse now fully renovated, it is a great place for food, drinks and society golf days.

Formed on 22nd October 1891. The course is built on land known locally as the “Pinnacle” Originally designed by Old Tom Morris himself, custodian of the Old course, St Andrews and Open Champion in 1861, 62, 64 and 1867.
The 18 hole course measuring 6,360 yards and with a par and SSS of 71, offers a true and fair test of your golfing ability, testing your length, accuracy, touch as well as your stamina over the part parkland and part moor land course.
It was later made into an 18 hole layout by Ted Ray from Ganton in 1906 and further alterations were made by Dr Alister Mackenzie in 1913 and again by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas in 1972. Some great course designers have left their mark on our course. It is set on the hillside above Mirfield in West Yorkshire. It offers magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
After playing why not visit our Clubhouse, which was re built in 2001. Here you can experience some of our warm northern hospitality. We can provide food and beverage to satisfy your needs after your round or just call in to sample our hospitality. It’s delightful setting, overlooking the course; with pleasant views from its elevated position help complete what we hope will be a memorable day.

Founded in 1892, Headingley is the oldest golf club in Leeds and is set on the edge of the beautiful suburb of Adel, 15 minutes from the city centre. The course was laid out and shaped in the early 20th century by a number of world-renowned architects including Dr Alister MacKenzie and Harry S. Colt. In a rural setting, the course enjoys many wonderful views and an array of memorable holes that make full use of the varied and dramatic terrain. The par-4 third hole is challenging with trees aligning the fairway and strategically placed bunkers to catch out a wayward drive on the right. While the signature par-3 17th is great
on the eye and offers an opportunity for a hole-in-one as the green feeds the ball towards the hole. Beware though, it can also be a card wrecker as it is guarded by an army of bunkers and heavy rough. Although it is presented in a traditional style, since 2013 the heathland course has been undergoing a comprehensive and ambitious Course Improvement Plan to ensure that it continues to be a venue of choice for discerning golfers. After your round relax in the clubhouse which boasts three bar areas but perhaps more importantly, a warm and friendly atmosphere. The 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor say it all.
The club has several special offers with or without catering. Please contact Tel: 0113 267 9573 or email: manager@headingleygolfclub.co.uk for the offers available at the time of your visit.

LEEDS GOLF CLUB
How to Find
Our 18-hole parkland course is situated on the north side of Leeds and is one of the best golf clubs in Yorkshire. Founded in 1896 it is the original home of the Leeds Cup, the oldest trophy in professional golf. Set in approximately 80 acres, our stunning course challenges golfers of all ages and abilities. Only four miles from the city centre and close to the Leeds Ring Road, the course has a distinctly tranquil feel with many of the holes commanding spectacular views of Roundhay. Leeds Golf Club offers something for everyone - men, women, seniors and juniors, from experienced players to those who have
never picked up a golf club before. We also welcome corporate members and golf societies who wish to visit our wonderful course. We have a relatively low number of full members compared to other courses which enables you to play at your time of choice on most days. Signature Hole: Hole 7, Par 4, 385 yards (White Tee) One of the most dramatic holes on the course. Aim your tee shot between the fairway bunkers. From there, an accurate second shot should reach the two tier green.

The founders were fortunate that in 1908 Dr MacKenzie was in the district having nearly completed the layout at Alwoodley, which was already very popular. He joined the deliberations at Moortown, and was soon to realise that here was golfing country par excellence. Features of the original course at Moortown which received much comment were the bunkers, being perfect examples of artificial hazards imitating natural seaside contours. Secondly was the change in green design, where Dr. MacKenzie adopted the larger, undulating seaside greens.
The one event which, has contributed so much to Moortown’s reputation as a championship course was the staging of the Ryder Cup in 1929. The first ever Ryder Cup on European soil. The par 3, 10th hole is MacKenzie’s renowned short hole “Gibraltar”, Moortown’s signature hole. The vista from the tee is stunning, with a combination of heavy bunkering and heather to the right and a cavernous bunker to the short left all protecting the green. The green itself is of typical MacKenzie design, various tiers make three putts a common occurrence on this undulating masterpiece.

The Shipley Golf Club Beckfoot Lane Bingley, BD16 1LX
THE SHIPLEY GOLF CLUB
Telephone: 01274 568652 office@shipleygolfclub.co.uk www.shipleygolfclub.com How to Find Travelling from Bradford: Exit the M62 at the M606 junction. Follow the M606 until the end. Take the A650 towards Shipley, Keighley and Skipton. Go through Shipley and Saltaire still heading towards Bingley, Keighley and Skipton. Keep straight on following signs to Wilsden/Cottingley (B6265). At the traffic lights after the roundabout keep in the right hand lane following signs to Bingley. After about ¼ mile, pass Kiddicreche Nursery on the left. Just after this turn left on to Beckfoot Lane. The Golf Club entrance is 200 yards on the left. Set amidst a wonderful wooded valley on the outskirts of Bingley, the course is the creation of the renowned architect Dr Alister Mackenzie of Augusta fame. Stretching across the rolling valley floor of Beckfoot this traditional parkland, visually stunning course provides golfers of any standard with a test of their skill and accuracy. The Shipley Golf Club is proud of the standard of its facilities and whatever the time of year you can be sure to find firm fairways, true greens and an idyllic environment. Much of Dr MacKenzie’s original design is evident with subtly sloping, cleverly guarded greens with narrow approaches - a hallmark of his work used to
reward the golfer for skilful and accurate play. At a little over 6200 yards do not be fooled into thinking you are in for an easy time here. Unusually for a course of this standard there are six Par 3 holes, one of which, the 7th, is the Course’s signature hole. This is a testing downhill hole with the babbling Harden Beck both to the left and rear of the small green ready to engulf the errant shot. Seven tough Par 4’s and 5 medium Par 5’s make up the rest of the challenge with mature Birch and Oak trees lining the fairways, and several ditches and ponds to test the shot makers skill.

Yorkshire & North East Golf Guide
East Yorkshire & Humberside Introduction
East Yorkshire & Humberside “East Yorkshire’s Heritage Coast stretches from Spurn Head in the south, to Flamborough Head in the north, in the district of Withernsea.” East Yorkshire, otherwise known as the East Riding of Yorkshire, includes the northern part of what was Humberside and the city of Kingston upon Hull - Britain’s third largest port. This magnificent waterfront city boasts a relaxing atmosphere along with a vibrant mix of culture, shopping and nightlife. Hull is situated on the north bank of the River Humber, which is a natural boundary to East Yorkshire. The Humber Bridge was completed in 1981. It’s the longest single span suspension bridge in the world with a main span length of 4,624 feet. It truly is a magnificent feat of engineering. To the west are the Yorkshire Wolds, a chalk formation, and you can explore the rolling hills along the 79 mile long
Yorkshire Wolds Way. To the south-east is the flat coastal plain of Holderness which terminates at the wild Spurn Peninsular East Yorkshire’s Heritage Coast stretches from Spurn Head in the south, to Flamborough Head in the north, in the district of Withernsea. Spurn Head is a National Nature Reserve. It’s a narrow projection of sand and shingle, constantly changing with the tides and a stop over for thousands of migrating birds. Bridlington, with its beautiful beaches and brand new award winning promenades and gardens, offers a host of all weather activities. This famous seaside resort has an irresistible appeal for people of all ages and a special Bridlington welcome that is guaranteed to warm your heart.

BROUGH
From the West via M62/A63: After Junction 38 the M62 becomes a dual carriageway, the A63, approximately 3 miles after this change exit left signed South Cave, Market Weighton and Beverley. At the T junction turn right following local signs for Brough. Carry on to a roundabout take the 3rd exit towards Brough and Elloughton continue to the next roundabout and take the 2nd exit into Cave Road, signed Brough Aircraft Factory. Brough Golf Club is a mile along this road on your left hand side.
A warm welcome awaits all visitors to Brough Golf Club, an attractive and challenging Inland Parkland Course located in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The mature nature of the course reflects its historical roots. The Club was founded in 1891 and celebrated its Centenary in 1993. “A testing par 68 for the scratch player without being too difficult for the higher handicap.” To which can be added, “An attractive course, with good golfing qualities, which makes it a pleasure to play again and again.” Brough is a thinking man’s course, where accurate positioning of the
tee ball is required for good scoring. The good golfing qualities are based on the light, well drained land, which results in a playable course in all weathers. Signature Hole: Hole 17, Par 3. “Entertaining” is probably a tongue-in-cheek description of the last of the course’s testing short holes. Here, that stream which comes into play so many times seems to be everywhere and there is a good chance that you will be scooping your ball out of water if your tee shot is at all wayward. Should you miss it with your first, the stream is almost sure to influence your second shot. One of the best if not the best hole on the course.

How to Find From the West M62/A63: M62 becomes A63. Take exit marked Humber Bridge A15 / Beverley A164. Go straight across first roundabout and take first exit next roundabout onto A164 Beverley. Straight over next roundabout and after approx 1.5 miles turn right into Riplingham Road. Club entrance is on the right just after the sharp right hand bend.
A classic James Braid test laid out in 1921, Hull Golf Club provides a tough start and finish. You will enjoy spectacular views over the City of Hull, Humber Estuary and the magnificent Humber Bridge. The par 70 layout measures less than 6300 yards from the back tees tees, despite recent innovations in club and ball technology. The course record of 64 has not been beaten but was equalled in 2014 by club member John Samuel. The tight tree-lined fairways punish any wayward shot and the classic Braid bunkering makes club selection difficult for approach shots. Even after a solid drive and precision approach, a
par is not guaranteed as the fast, subtle greens present a challenge to even the best of putters. Yorkshire & North East Golf Guide
South Yorkshire Introduction
South Yorkshire You could be forgiven for thinking that all South Yorkshire can offer is an industrial history of mining and steel manufacturing. The main towns within this Yorkshire and Humber county did grow around those industries, themselves having huge educational and historical appeal for visitors but, thanks to multi-million pound investment via government initiatives and Heritage Lottery funding, the whole area is buzzing with regeneration and redevelopment, seeing some of its slightly dusty, historical gems being given a good polish and the chance to shine again.
In addition to firm favourites (Doncaster Railway, Doncaster Racecourse), and those restored to their former glories (Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Weston Park Museum, Wentworth Castle), the area is brimming with new, lively, modern venues offering a variety of entertainment, culture and attractions for more cosmopolitan tourists including: art galleries & exhibitions (Millennium Galleries, Graves Art Gallery), contemporary/traditional music & theatre (Sheffield City Hall, The Leadmill, The Harley), sporting fixtures (Don Valley
Stadium, Hallam FM Arena, The Crucible), and state of the art shopping centres (Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Crystal Peaks) - all of which mean this area is now a firm favourite for those visiting ‘up North’. If you enjoy the outdoors, South Yorkshire is the gateway to the Peak District National Park, Pennine Yorkshire and the Trans Pennine Trail which cuts right across the region. So there is never a shortage of things to see and do in this abundant area of Yorkshire.

It’s the home club of Matthew Fitzpatrick, the young professional who notched 10 top ten European Tour finishes in his first season in 2015, winning the British Masters along the way. Matt, who enjoyed fantastic success as an amateur, claiming the US Amateur Championship in 2013, is regularly seen playing with his pals and often brings his Tour companion and 2016 Master’s Tournament Champion Danny Willett along for a round. Although not particularly long at around 6500 yards off the championship tees, the course is regarded as a challenging test for golfers of all standards. It is kept in magnificent
condition all year round, with hand cut greens renowned throughout the region for their speed and consistency. The elevated position of the course and peaty soils ensures swift drainage, allowing members and guests to enjoy their golf on an almost year round basis. Hallamshire, characterised by large pockets of heather, gorse and bilberries, is noted as one of just 400 heather-clad heathland golf courses in the UK by the Sports Turf Research Institute, which describes the course as “prestigious, challenging and attractive”. The club holds annual Opens and Charity events, details can be found on the website.

The Golf Club was formed in 1903 and there are few clubs in the UK that can claim such a glorious location and magnificent Club House. Surrounded by beautiful timbered parkland the course is easily accessible from the M1 or A1 in South Yorkshire. Also, being closely situated to Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster, it is accessible from far afield.
Originally a nine hole course laid out by Sandy Herd, in 1906 it was increased to eighteen holes and was subsequently modified by James Braid. Resulting from this is an exceptionally well laid out course, where golf is played over parkland of great beauty. The course record of 62 was recorded by Simon Coumbe of Pontefract GC during the second round of the inaugural Lee Westwood Trophy held in September 2005. He broke the previous record score of 65, jointly held by Lee Westwood and Ian Garbutt. The golf shop at Rotherham Golf Club prides itself on retail experience and exceptional customer service.

Yorkshire & North East Golf Guide
North East Introduction
North East
North East England is one of the nine official regions of England. Covering Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and Teesside. Northumberland is the Northernmost of the English counties, separated from Scotland by the Cheviot Hills and the Tweed River and borders on the North Sea. The terrain is level along the wild, rugged coastline and hilly in the interior, where high moor lands alternate with fertile valleys. Hadrian’s Wall is probably the most notable feature; built in Roman times.
in County Durham. At the heart of this county lies Durham City; small enough to enjoy on foot yet so exceptional that its castle and cathedral are designated a World Heritage Site. Much of the West of the County, including Teesdale, Weardale and the Derwent Valley, is included in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is perfect country for walking, cycling, riding, wildlife-watching and exploring the many charming villages and towns.
The area suffered severely during the border wars between England and Scotland. The legacy of the Border wars of the 14th-16th centuries have resulted in Northumberland having more castles to explore than any other English county.
Tyne & Wear is an area with bustling towns and cities; encompassing Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Gateshead, and Sunderland. The diversity of the area and rich warmth of the people make for a fusion of attractions and appeal.
From the North Pennines in the West to the North Sea Coast in the East, there are attractions and delights to suit all tastes
Newcastle can boast three large shopping centres, many fascinating museums as well as cinemas, theatres presenting a vast
range of entertainment, sport and leisure centres, art-centres and a rich variety of clubs, restaurants, bistros and coffee shops catering for all tastes, pubs and bars all selling the local brew Newcastle Brown Ale and everything else you could could wish for. Teeside is an area now more familiarly known as the Tees Valley; stretching the salmon rich reaches of the upper Tees to the coastal beauty and character laden sea ports. The maritime history and industrial heritage are very much in evidence throughout this area. Teesside offers the opportunity for a country ramble over an endless expanse of moorland, the thrill of sandy beaches and towering cliffs as well as the pleasure of a successful days shopping and fine dining at a chic urban restaurant. From quaint fishing ports, beautiful countryside and cosmopolitan city life, this area has it all.

Former Ryder Cup captain Mark James was part of the design team that developed the course in 1994, which has been constantly improved over the years. Since 2001 the course has been under the ownership of Irish businessmen, John Fallon and William Kiely. Their long term commitment to the course has been evidenced by the ongoing ten year improvement plan.
It has panoramic views of Simonside hills to the West and the coast to the East. The course in beautiful rolling countryside provides a challenging round for all abilities, playing off the championship tees measuring 7065 yards, the medal tees at 6804 yards and the leisure tees at 6403 yards. The maturing parklands with water hazards, is both beautiful and tranquil and includes some of the finest greens in the region. Our signature hole is the par 4, 18th. At 463 yds off the white tees an accurate drive is essential to avoid the ditch which runs down and across the fairway. The second is a downhill shot to a two tier green well guarded by bunkers.

Hartlepool Golf Club is situated on the North East Coast of England within sight and sound of the sea. Hartlepool hosted the Tall Ships Race during 2010. Hartlepool has easy access from A1 via A19. From spring to autumn the course is ablaze with the colour of wild flowers. The area is well known to botanists and has been declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest by the Nature Conservancy Council. The course offers a challenge to the experienced player as well as the novice. The wind frequently blows, changing its nature from day to day. Hartlepool is also unique for its
year-round availability as it is seldom closed because of the sandy nature of the soil. The course, which runs along the coast, has been designed to take advantage of the many natural features. The seaward side is protected by hillocks and dunes covered with marram grass. James Braid designed some of the holes, the most spectacular being the tenth which requires a straight drive and a good second shot between dunes. The course measures 6298 yards from the back tees and has a par of 70. Par for Ladies is 72, on a course which measures 5562 yards.

“As fine an inland course as you can find.” The words of Harry Vardon, designer of the original course, are as true today as they were in 1907 when he wrote them to the committee. The Spital course has a magnificent setting on the south bank of the Tyne, and makes full use of the rolling contours and thousands of mature trees to provide a course that is challenging enough to be a regular host of County and Regional events, both amateur and professional, and yet at 6,300 yards it is also enjoyable for the handicap golfer. The greens are regularly amongst the best in the County, and the views over the surrounding
Northumberland countryside are stunning. With its perfect setting, spectacular Georgian Grade One listed Clubhouse, and mouthwatering menus, Hexham Golf Club is undoubtedly one of the best venues in the region for corporate and society golf with many visitors returning year after year to enjoy the excellent facilities and warm welcome. Signature Hole: 18th, Par 4, 344 yards This magnificent closing hole requires a tough decision. Do you risk trying to drive the green or play safe? An accurate tee shot is needed, avoiding the out of bounds, with a large, heavily bunkered green as your final challenge.

LONGHIRST HALL

Longhirst Hall Longhirst golf, known for having a beautiful relaxed setting, has an alluring layout with nice country views and undulating greens that add character to the golf courses.
Scenic lakes, elevated tees and well placed bunkers provide interesting features that contribute to its excitement. Course conditions are known for being some of the best in Northumberland. Longhirst Hall Golf Course was opened in June 1997. This layout now plays as The Old Course, with full spec winter greens if required. It has been skilfully modelled to provide some of the most stunning holes in the country. On the fascinating 17th, for example, you drive downhill past two lakes before aiming for a narrow green flanked by a pond on either side. The Lakes Course is a true test of accuracy. Tight fairways and an abundance of water make it a test for even the best golfers. A thoughtful progression around the course is required. The par 3, 6th and the par 4, 17th are truly stunning holes that have to be played to be believed. The Dawson Course is a more relaxing round of golf but can still give a bite if you’re not on your game. Wider fairways and large greens are more forgiving. Lakes and water feature in abundance again.

NEWBIGGIN
Newbiggin Golf Club is situated 2 miles from the main A189 road (Spine road) and is laid out along the Northumberland coastline forming a fine Links/Moorland course. For visitors traveling from the South, head North from the Tyne Tunnel to the North Seaton Roundabout, a distance of about 12 miles, and turn right (Eastwards) towards Newbiggin village, Travel through the village until you arrive at the end of the road. The Golf Club is located adjacent to the Church Point caravan park.
Newbiggin Golf Club is laid out over moorland at the north side of the village and follows the coast line towards Lynemouth. It is a links/ moorland course with many challenging holes which require a good drive from the tee to set up par opportunities. The greens are without doubt some of the best available in the whole of the northern counties. We do not use winter greens and can boast that even in the depths of Winter, when nearby courses are closed due to inclement weather, Newbiggin is almost always open to provide exciting golf, good food and excellent company afterwards. We pride ourselves on the

friendliness of both our Staff and members. They will certainly make you feel at home during your visit. Come and visit us and I’m sure your experience will be memorable. The 6th hole is one of our most challenging holes especially from the new back tees. It requires a true long drive to carry the gully (and miss the huge bunker) to give yourself a short iron to the hidden and very undulating green. Other players play left of the gully for safety but leave themselves a longer and more difficult approach shot to the green. When the wind is against this is one of the trickiest holes on the course.
RAMSIDE

Ramside Renaissance Durham resort’s £16m makeover Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club, County Durham’s only 36-hole golf resort, has just put the finishing touches to a £16m redevelopment which includes England’s newest championship golf course, a luxury spa, health club and 48 new hotel bedrooms. The Spa at Ramside, a new luxury spa, health club and wellness centre, opened its doors to the public in August and completes a four year redevelopment which has transformed the Durham resort into one of the finest golf and leisure destinations in the North of England. Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club sits in mature wooded parkland on the outskirts of Durham City close to the A1M heading North to Newcastle and beyond to Scotland. Family owned and run, the estate is home to a four star country hotel and Ramside Golf Club’s two championship golf courses, The Prince Bishops and The Cathedral Course – which opened for play in September 2014. Ramside’s courses offer a thrilling blend of
risk and reward golf with vast lakes, dramatic doglegs, sweeping fairways, expansive bunkering and some of the biggest and truest greens you’ll ever putt on. Next year is the club’s 20th anniversary and it continues to go from strength to strength. Bookings of golf breaks rose 200% in 2015 as golfers from across the UK travelled to play the Cathedral Course and combine an extended stay with a round on the highly rated Prince Bishops Course. The recent investment in golf and leisure facilities is already paying dividends in increased membership and exciting new initiatives are making the game more accessible, including Flexi-Golf - a flexible points based membership where you can join Ramside Golf Club from only £195 - and a new scholarship for Junior Golfers aged 12-16. Amen for the Cathedral Course The new course replaces an original 9-hole loop, built in 1996, and from which it takes its name and begins among the tall trees of the parkland estate. The holes then stretch out across a broad hilltop plateau with views over Durham City,
and its world famous UNESCO World Heritage Ste Cathedral and Castle, before dropping down into a picturesque wooded valley and returning back to the clubhouse, golf academy and 16-bay driving range. The middle ‘hilltop holes’ are spectacular with wide-open skies and 360 views of the Durham countryside. They are exposed to the elements and a prevailing South Easterly wind which gives the greens a links-like look and feel. They sit proudly, elevated as if part of the horizon, and are protected by the clever run-offs, swales and false fronts more often found in seaside golf. The ‘valley holes,’ from four through seven are peaceful and quiet, tranquil even. Here, two beautiful par-threes interchange with a pair of muscular par-fives, defended by wellplaced fairway and greenside bunkers. Later, the course returns to the valley for its most celebrated section. Inspired by Augusta Designer Jonathan Gaunt calls the stretch of holes from the 11th to the 14th ‘Ramside’s Amen Corner,’ and credits the famous Georgia golf course as his inspiration in shaping the holes.

From the North and South at junction 62 A1/M. Take the A690 towards Sunderland, straight through the traffic lights, under the Railway bridge and you should be in the right hand lane as our entrance is on your right. There is a filter lane but take care crossing in front of the oncoming traffic.
The downhill par-three 12th bears an uncanny resemblance to Augusta’s iconic ‘Golden Bell’ but instead of Rae’s Creek, Sherburn Beck stands guard at the front of the green. The beck is the defining feature at the par-four 13th and skirts the entire length of the hole just like Rae’s Creek does at the par-five 13th in Georgia. The Cathedral’s finishing stretch combines two gentle par-four holes with a fiendishly difficult 452-yard 17th hole. The route to the hole is punctuated by several lakes, fairway bunkers, encroaching trees and a difficult green. The 18th is a 215-yard par three with a trio of lakes to navigate before you reach the safety of a huge undulating green. Off Course: Relax and revive at The Spa at Ramside Golfers staying at Ramside Hall Hotel will love the opportunity to relax and unwind after golf at the new luxury health club, gym, spa and pool which opened in August 2015. Designed by Hawtree, Rockliffe golf course is one of the longest in Europe at 7,879 yards from the back tees. While the course will give even the best professional tour golfer a stern test, most will find the five individual tee boxes on each hole a welcome addition, offering players of all abilities the chance to experience the challenge of Rockliffe Golf. Seven lakes, eight reed beds and thousands of new and mature trees have been added to an already scenic course and the A4 creeping bent grass greens have a slickness to them which sadly offer no excuses for missed putts. SLALEY HALL
106
Slaley Hall Country Club Slaley Hall is an Edwardian mansion set in 1,000 acres of Northumberland countryside perfect for an idyllic short break, magical wedding venue or place for business.
The two courses at Slaley Hall, the Hunting and the Priestman, are rightly ranked among the very best in our region. Set in more than 1,000 acres of Northumberland moorland and forest, the championship golf courses are stern tests – the Hunting Course has hosted European, European Seniors, EuroPro Tour and PGA events. The Hunting requires great ability to play anywhere near to your handicap; the front nine is among the toughest stretches in the country, requiring long and straight tee shots, accurate approaches and an excellent putting stroke. The ninth, often switched to the 18th for major events, is widely regarded as one of the toughest par fours you will find in the region. Designed by Dave Thomas, the lush sweeping fairways, rolling moorland, streams and lakes, towering trees and banks of rhododendrons combine to provide an air of peace and tranquillity and a golfing experience you’ll never forget.

Our Dr Alister MacKenzie designed course is a stunning county championship venue, oozing natural charm as it winds between gorse, heather and bracken around an enticing heathland layout. Each hole presents a different challenge and golfers who like putting on large and Augusta National style greens will enjoy negotiating their undulating surfaces. This is the trademark of a genius whose portfolio also included Augusta, Cypress Point and Royal Melbourne. No wonder the name Alister MacKenzie is forever enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame. Andrew Mair, a course designer of 45 years’ experience and a keen student of MacKenzie’s work, suggests South
Moor is a fine example of MacKenzie at his best, saying: “South Moor is proof that the ideal course designer needs the soul of an artist, the brain of an engineer and the heart of a golfer. Each hole is individually designed and not only are there are no replicas, but also what you get here you can’t get anywhere else. You never see any MacKenzie green repeated anywhere. Every green he ever created is different yet a lot of modern course architects roll out a template. So their fourth hole on one course might be a ninth hole somewhere else.” The club motto at South Moor, nil nisi optimum, is appropriate. Translated from the Latin, it means “nothing but the best”.
Newly refurbished clubhouse, Top-class changing rooms, showers and lockers, CustomFitGolf discount store, State-of-the-art indoor fitting and coaching facility, Alister MacKenzie themed Astroturf short game practice area, Two putting greens - including one with an Astroturf surface, Driving practice area. Tynemouth Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2013. This year the Ladies section under Ladies Captain Kim McKenna celebrate their centenary. Tynemouth is one of the most attractive and satisfying parkland golf courses in the north east. This par 70, 18 hole course is situated only minutes from the coast close to the historic village of Tynemouth. The course offers a very fair challenge to all levels of golfer and the fact that the course record of 65 is the best any golfer, professional or amateur, has managed so far, suggests the course is not as simple as it first appears.
Memberships Available: Full ladies and Gents, Intermediate, Flexible Playing Scheme, Corporate please contact the Club for details. Benefits of full membership: Full members can enjoy a reciprocal agreement with Stocksfield, Seahouses and Tynemouth and can play these courses at no cost. The new par 3, 5th is a testing 200 yards to the original but reshaped 5th green. The 16th hole was remodeled and brought into play last season and features
5 new bunkers.

Travel Spain > Costa del Sol
Costa del Sol Spain
The Costa del Sol lies in the province of Andalucia in the south of Spain. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. This ‘Sun Coast’ runs for 150 km from Malaga to Estepona, with skies predominantly blue all year round and brilliant sunshine. Costa del Sol offers a series of large beaches, coves hidden amongst cliffs, famous leisure marinas such as ‘Puerto Banus’ and tranquil fishing ports.
In the provincial capital, Malaga, stands the military fortress of the Alcazaba, built by the Moors in the 11th century. At the far end of the Costa del Sol is the geographical & political oddity Gibraltar, with visits to see the Barbary Apes and abundant military history. This great diversity means that it has something to offer just about everyone, with enough entertainment and variety to please all types of visitor.
The Mediterranean sea is warm and safe and the hills and high mountains shelter the coastline, these elements allow for an all year micro climate making it the perfect location for golf. El Chaparral Golf Club
Enjoying nature in all its glory while playing golf, breathing in the fragrance of the pine trees, listening to the songs of the birds and allowing yourself to be enchanted by the beautiful panoramic views - this is just one of the many attractions of El Chaparral, the Costa del Sol golf club set in the municipality of Mijas, and neighbouring the municipality of Marbella.
The personalised, courteous and professional attention offered by all of our employees is another characteristic which distinguishes El Chaparral. Equally outstanding is its club house, built in the Andalusian style and overlooking the sea, which provides additional services including a restaurant, live music, a golf shop, club repair, a conference room, a beauty parlour and a hairdresser. The club house is elegantly decorated and is equipped with luxury facilities with different atmospheres as well as a spacious terrace with unbeatable views of the golf course and the sea. Spectacular would be the word that best defines the sensation of playing at El Chaparral, which is capable of hosting any kind of top-level event, whether amateur or professional. The course consists of 18 holes set in unique and privileged surroundings on the Costa del Sol. Close to the sea (700 metres from the beach) and surrounded by vast woods of Canary Island pines and native Mediterranean
woodland, El Chaparral offers players what all golfers are searching for: peacefulness. Designed by Pepe Gancedo, this is the only course on the Costa del Sol with six par 5’s, six par 4’s and six par 3’s. It is not a very long course (5,800 metres) and it includes a wide variety of holes which can be enjoyed by players of all levels. It is a demanding circuit which requires skill and precision, with greens which provide outstanding conditions throughout the whole year. Its ease of access, at just 700 metres off the N340 highway, places it right at the head of Golf Valley in Mijas, which is a world-famous destination for golfers. El Chaparral has a top-class international golf school with highly qualified PGA professionals, each with their own teaching method, as well as the latest video and computer technology, whether for teaching beginners or for helping advanced players who wish to perfect their swing.
The floodlit driving range is open every day of the year until nine o’clock in the evening. It was designed with all kinds of professionals in mind, who, due to a lack of time, can only enjoy their free time once they have finished work for the day. It has a practice tee made of wood, with two heights and space for 32 players. There is also a 1000-square metre practice green for approach and putt, making this one of the best practice areas in Mijas Costa. El Chaparral has become a benchmark for golf courses on the Costa del Sol thanks to its delightful surroundings, its impeccable facilities, its high quality of service and its good value for money. Friendly staff, superb value for money, good quality course, complete with training area including an academy course, spacious natural grass driving range, putting green and chipping
green. Continuous improvements have been made to Alhaurin Golf, making it a must for all golf and nature lovers. It is located in Alhaurin el Grande, just above Fuengirola and mid way between Malaga and Marbella. The trees and plants within the course are typically Mediterranean with plenty of pine trees, Spanish oaks, cypress, orange trees, palms and olives plus a wide range of aromatic plants like thyme and rosemary.
Signature Hole The signature hole is number six, a par five dog-leg right with the most amazing tee positions and views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The drop in height from the tees is absolutely unique, and leaves most players with two more shots to reach the green, well protected by bunkers but not difficult to putt. This is one of those holes every golfer must play.

COSTA DEL SOL
Cabopino Golf Marbella Cabopino Golf is situated on the border between Marbella and Mijas Costa, opposite the charming little marina of Cabopino. The course was designed by Juan Ligues Creus. The layout presents spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding pine forest.
Cabopino Golf allows all categories of handicap golfers to enjoy a day out. At the entrance to Cabopino Golf we find the excellent facilities of the golf Academy and driving range. The driving range has a capacity for 60 players, with a depth of 250 mts, and 160 mts, wide distance markers, bunkers, and the natural layout amongst the pine forest make an interesting and challenging practise session. The academy offers classes for individual ladies and gentlemen, groups of children, and corporative groups. Amongst the many spectacular holes, the par 4, third would be one to mention. Your tee box perched on the side of the cliff, presents you with a tee shot that has a drop of nearly 80m to the fairway, you then face an elevated green protected by a large bunker. Holes thirteen and fifteen are also attractive, with streams and lakes. The tenth tee provides a magnificent view of the back nine and the Mediterranean Sea. COSTA DEL SOL
Yorkshire & North East Golf Guide
Parador de Málaga Golf By far the oldest course on the Coast and inaugurated by the Spanish Royal Family in 1925. Now consisting of 27 holes, the original 18 holes were designed by To`m Simpson, of Muirhead and Turnberry fame. An easy to walk course, although it is a long one, flat, a mixture of links, seawater lagoons and parkland, suitable for all levels of golfers but when yet that sea wind blows offering a severe challenge to even the most experienced of golfers. Mostly open fairways, flat and quite easy to read
greens, apart from the 9th, 12th and 15th. The ninth is a tricky par-3, difficult to reach on windy days, with a subtly contoured putting surface. The course has been rather underrated of late but is now under new management and in recent years the greens and conditions of the course has been vastly improved. Many visiting golfers like to play this course on the last day of their golfing holiday as it is only a five minute drive from the 18th hole (or 19th hut) to Malaga Airport.
