By 1992, with partners in Canadian vocalist Daniel MacMaster, guitarist Ian Hatton, and bassist and keyboardist John Smithson, Bonham finished another album: Mad Hatter. Jason teamed up with Paul Rodgers, Slash, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck and others in 1993 to work on the A Tribute To Muddy Waters album. The record's success brought a nomination for a Grammy Award. A year later, Jason, along with Rodgers and Slash, appeared at the memorable Woodstock II. That same year, he recorded a new album, Peace 4 Me, in his group now known as Motherland with Marti Frederksen on vocals. Jason represented his father when Led Zeppelin was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January 1995, with his sister Zoe by his side. He soon put together another solo project which culminated in In The Name of My Father – The Zepset CD, which featured the songs of Led Zeppelin. Proceeds from the album went to charity. The album was followed up with When You See The Sun. On December 10, 2007, Jason played drums in the Led Zeppelin reunion at London's O2 arena with surviving members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant. A DVD of this storied performance is now considered a must for fans.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
Eeesh. Let's face it: If the the TV commercial of Kevin James fighting a peacock made you roll on the floor laughing, you don't read film reviews (or, perhaps, read in general). And if that ad made you actually get up out of your chair, leave your home, drive your car, and walk into a mallplex to lay down $12 (perhaps four times, if you have a family), we can't say much to dissuade you from your tastes. We know there's that special breed of American that does whatever the TV tells him or her to – hey, must be good for the economy, right? But it must be noted that Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 – a sequel that should never have been made – is the cinematic equivalent of Mighty Putty, Invicta watches, and Olive Garden. Sure, they're all cheap, easy, and hawked on TV, but there's no real reason for any of that stuff to exist. This time out, James – bless him, an area boy made good – and director Andy Fickman seem to believe that watching the portly comic

actor getting knocked on his ass 80 or 90 times is the secret to robust comedy. The original Blart film, about a inept schlub mall cop who becomes a hero, was released in 2009, and stuck around the sixplexes just long enough to score about $150 million at the box office. Actually, it was smart of Sony Pictures to release this film now, as the movie dregs of winter are about to give way to The Avengers
and the rest of the 2015 summer blockbusters. While there's nothing overly offensive this time out (the producers seem to be now casting the roly poly Blart as a children's character), there's nothing clever or particularly funny about the endless scenes of Blart on his Segway, either. The plot, what there is of it, concerts Blart taking his daughter, Maya (Rodriguez), to Las Vegas so that he could attend a security convention; not much of a “gift,” as the trip is an all-expensespaid junket. However, once in Vegas, Blart gets wind that an upscale gambler (McDonough) aims to rob the convention hotel of precious art. So, Blart goes into full hero mode, and yeah, he falls down a lot while chasing (or being chased) by the baddies. He also gets hit by cars, and not one of these ham-fisted slapstick scenes even touches the hem of anything resembling wit or actual humor. All in all, this is akin to an Adam Sandler (it's his production company, naturally) or Paulie Shore film toned down for kids who think Scooby-Doo is a comic genius. Sorry, small fry: Even the lame Curly Joe DeRita-era Three Stooges films have more laughs than Paul Blart 2 – and in the 1960s, it only cost 50 cents to waste 90 minutes of your time.

New York Mets fans should try to temper their enthusiasm and be a bit more realistic about this season. The team hasn’t finished above .500 since Citi Field opened in 2009, so winning 82 games and playing “meaningful games in September” (a favorite phrase of Mets CEO Fred Wilpon) would be a marked improvement. Nonetheless, this is the first time in a long time that there is more general buzz about the Mets than the New York Yankees ... but of course, there are storm clouds: The Mets learned just before opening day that relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia, the team’s closer in 2014, would suspended half of the season (as well as

X at a raucous Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine. The Elias Cup finals, which aired on ESPN, concluded the PBA Tour’s first visit to the state of Maine. At the close of the competition – eight days after escaping serious injury in an automobile accident – Silver Lake anchor bowler Dick Allen was selected as the PBA League’s Mark Roth Most Valuable Player. Silver Lake opened the multi-event Elias Cup finals with a 223-211 victory by Chris Barnes over L.A. X’s Jason Belmonte in the singles match. Barnes survived a 4-6 split in the third frame
and a missed 4 pin in the ninth with a string of five strikes in the middle of his game, followed by two strikes and a nine-count in the 10th frame to win the first point. L.A. X evened the score at 1-1 when Stuart Williams and Patrick Allen escaped with a 212-211 win in the alternate ball doubles match against Barnes and Mika Koivuniemi. Barnes’ seven-count 4-6-7 split on his final shot proved to be the difference. The Atom Splitters quickly righted their ship in Baker Trios when Allen, Craig Nidiffer and Tom Daugherty were nearly perfect in posting a 297-246 victory over Belmonte, Andres Gomez and Martin Larsen. A 2-8-10 split on Allen’s final ball in the 10th frame was Silver Lake’s only flaw as it took a 2-1 lead. With three points at stake in the Baker team finale, Silver Lake again responded. After defeating L.A. X in the 2014 team finale, 225-203, the Atom Splitters rallied from an early 10-pin deficit for a 236-215 victory to retain the Elias Cup. Allen started the come-from-behind victory with a strike in the fifth frame, and capped a string of six straight strikes with the first strike in the 10th frame to ice the title. – Bill Vint, PBA Media

Major League Baseball to make team-branded wines. There is a New York Yankees 2011 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, and for white wine buffs, a 2012 Reserve Russian River Valley Chardonnay. Fans from the team from Flushing can imbibe New York Mets Club Series 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Since red is the Philadelphia Phillies’ color, Wine By Design created a Napa Valley blended red in the team’s honor. Needless to say, the jokes came fast and furious from the Philly media.
Many of the Phillies beat writers asked if the wine could be served in the Citizen Bank Park press box to get them through the season easier. One columnist joked that the Phillies wouldn’t need a wine cellar, since the Phillies will be in the cellar the whole season. For more info, log onto mlb.com/wine. As for the Phillies, the upbeat former Met Jeff Francouer is now playing for Philadelphia. It appeared that Jeff’s career was over as he was bouncing from team to team, and spent most of 2014 playing for the San Diego Padres’ AAA team in El Paso. Francouer battled to get back to the majors, and Mets fans, not known for being sentimental when it comes to former players, gave him a warm ovation during opening day ceremonies at Citi Field. “Frenchy” responded by tipping his cap. “That was a big surprise to me. That was awfully nice of them,” said Francouer. also owns a sports management agency, ROC Nation. Last year, Cotto left Bob Arum’s Top Rank to join ROC. Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark was on hand at the presser, and he admitted that he was quite relieved that the Brooklyn Nets had snuck into the playoffs at literally the last minute of the NBA’s regular season: “Besides the Rangers, the Nets are the only New York team to make the playoffs the last three years,” he pointed out, although I’ll point out that he did not pretend that the Nets were going to be awarded any championship rings this year. If nothing else, making the playoffs assured that the Nets would not be participating in the NBA’s draft lottery in May. That choice would have been forfeited to the Atlanta Hawks as compensation for the Joe Johnson trade three years earlier. “It doesn’t sound so dramatic when you swap the #16 pick for the #29 choice,” Yormark said. WNBA veteran Swin Cash has resigned with the New York Liberty, which should be a very good team this year. They have added Epiphanny Prince to a roster that already includes one of the league’s best players in Tina Charles. soundman of nearly three decades. For more than 16 years, Dark Star Orchestra has embodied the Grateful Dead’s live experience for fans both old and too young to have ever seen their own Grateful Dead show. Recreating historic Grateful Dead set lists, and intermittently crafting their own, Dark Star Orchestra offers a continually evolving artistic outlet within the Grateful Dead’s canon. Matching equipment, stage layout, and even band members (various eras have included female vocals or multiple drummers), Dark Star Orchestra’s determined commitment to “raising the Dead” has earned
included Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman of Phish, Keller Williams, Warren Haynes, Steve Kimock, Peter Rowan, the legendary Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, and many more. "For us it’s a chance to recreate some of the magic that was created for us over the years," rhythm guitarist and vocalist Rob Eaton explained. "We offer a sort of a historical perspective at what it might have been like to go to a show in 1985, 1978, or whenever. Even for Deadheads who c an say they’ve been to a hundred shows in the 90s, we offer something they never got to see live."

Performance Live: Randy Bachman The Concert Hall At The Society For Ethical Culture New York City
On Disc: Bachman Heavy Blues Linus Entertainment
In Performance: Buoyed by friends such as Neil Young and producer Kevin Shirley, the famed rock guitarist Randy Bachman – a founder of both The Guess Who and BachmanTurner Overdrive, two of the most influential bands in Canadian rock history – is making a most unexpected comeback. Now 71, Bachman finally seems convinced of his status as a legendary guitarist – and this shockingly superb concert only cemented that fact. Since ending Bachman & Turner last year, every new idea of Bachman’s has been perfect – especially his new, young rhythm section of bassist Anna Ruddick and drummer Dale Anne Brendon, who like Bachman are serious fans of British blues trios such as The Who and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. That's the direction that Bachman has taken both live and on his new album; this concert was a guitar fan's dream, featuring many of the songs of both of Bachman's former bands in a heavy, blues-steeped fashion. Songs such as “No Time” and even the lightweight “Hey You” were superbly underscored by this new group; Bachman's confidence is such that the show even included worthy tributes to Jeff Beck and Roy Buchanan. Bachman was lavish with his praise for others, but in reality he’s easily a peer of those stars. Overall, this was a tight, driving show, one that felt like a visit from an old friend; only a rockedup reworking of “Undun” was a complete misstep – it was hard to believe Bachman would take his greatest composition and bastardize it – but that moment was the only blip in an otherwise perfect night of both looking forward and back in time. On Disc: Heavy Blues is just that; while most will no doubt note the presence of a myriad of guests ranging from Young to Joe Bonamassa and the sterling production skills of Shirley, again it's Bachman, Ruddick, and Brendon that shine the brightest, delivering the rocking “The Edge” and “Bad Child” with a blues edge than none of Bachman's former bands ever came remotely close to. Take one listen and you might remember why you fell in love with guitar bands in the first place. – Bob Smith

CLASSIC ROCK On June 2, Reprise will release Saved By The Bell - The Collected Works Of Robin Gibb: 1969-70. The collection captures the entire musical output of Robin Gibb at 19 years old, during a 12 month period from 1969 and 1970. The extensive three-disc set features the critically acclaimed hit solo album Robin's Reign – rebooted to include nine alternate takes and full-length versions – as well as the previously unreleased, and much sought-after Sing Slowly Sisters album, which will be released exactly 45 years after it was recorded. This compilation, produced by Grammy-nominated reissue producer Andrew Sandoval (The Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Elton John), took more than 10 years to complete. he first conversations took place with Robin Gibb himself with the Robin original idea Gibb being to complete the lost album Sing Slowly Sisters, but Robin's focus turned to the creation of new material until his death in 2012, and the project stalled. However, immortalizing his lasting legacy, work continued to finally bring this lost gem to his fans. In fact, it was the fans that eventually provided the material needed to complete the project, sharing with Sandoval material purchased on cassette and one-of-a-kind acetates at auction over the years to augment the original masters that were accessed and mixed for this collection. The full-length album version of Sing Slowly Sisters (Disc 2) is in fact the best approximation of the running order, as a full album was never previously compiled. For a brief period at the beginning of 1969, after the release of The Bee Gees’ Odessa, the Gibb brothers entered a period of solo output, led by the release of Robin's single "Saved By The Bell," which shot to #2 in the UK (only kept from the #1 spot by The Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk
Favorites & Legends Rock On Women"). Recorded at London's Chappell Studios, IBC Studio and Recorded Sound Studios between March 1969 and April 1970, Robin Gibb not only created his solo opus Robin's Reign, but also consciously worked on the f ollow-up Sing Slowly Sisters and even more material in what was one of his most creative and prolific periods of songwriting. This unearthed collection is a tribute to this period of Robin's life, and features such coveted tunes as "Hudson's Fallen Wind." This track is the original suite lasting more than 12 minutes that became the three-minute excerpt that was "Farmer Ferdinand Hudson," a track featured on Robin's Reign. The third disc is simply titled Robin's Rarities, an intriguing collection of 23 alternate takes, demos, BBC sessions
and unissued songs including "Janice," "Alexandra Good Time" (the original withdrawn flipside of "Saved By The Bell"), Robin's orchestral tribute to the Charles Dickens character Ebenezer Scrooge ("Ghost Of Christmas Past"), and the moon landing ("Moon Anthem.") With sleeve notes provided by St. Etienne's Bob Stanley, the writer sums up the reason for this release perfectly: "Finally, the boxed-up tapes, acetates and one-off demos have been gathered in one place. These potent tales of love, loss and contemplation, with their opaque references to Shipston-On-Stour and Derbyshire dentists, can breathe at last."
Jazz & Blues Keeping The Blues Alive: "They always try to write off the blues; well, we've proven tonight that at least 9,000 people like the blues," said blues/rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, who has released his new Joe Bonamassa – Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks on DVD, Bluray, and CD set. The concert experience in tribute to blues legends Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf was filmed at Red Rocks Amphitheater during Labor Day weekend in 2014. Carved into the bedrock of
influenced Bonamassa's original music throughout his career. The concert features a selection of songs from each artist, followed by a 30-minute set of songs from Bonamassa's own ecatalog. The concert features a lineup of players different from Bonamassa's touring band, dubbed The Muddy Wolf Band, which includes stars in their own right in Anton Fig (drums, from David Letterman’s TV house band), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond
Joe Bonamassa
Colorado's majestic Rocky Mountains, the famed amphitheater set the stage for Bonamassa's fiery delivery of more than two and one-half hours of bluesy guitar-wailing and horn-filled tunes honoring the two blues greats. Playing to a sold-out crowd of 9,000 fans, it marked the biggest show of Bonamassa's career, a major milestone for the bluesman. The Blu-ray and DVD contains more than one and onehalf hours of bonus features including exclusive behind the scenes footage, a photo gallery, historic footage of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, and a featurette of Bonamassa and producer Kevin Shirley's trip to The Crossroads. Unlike any Bonamassa show before, Muddy Wolf marks the start of a tribute concert series that will display a different band and catalog of material that will vary from Bonamassa's music as a solo artist. For Muddy Wolf, songs were carefully selected from the catalogs of Howlin' Wolf, one of Chicago's most influential bluesmen, known for his deep, scratchy voice, and Muddy Waters, considered the "father of modern Chicago blues." Waters was a major inspiration for the British blues explosion of the 1960s, a genre that has heavily

A humbled and grateful Bonamassa said, "'Inspired' was the feeling that permeated the camp from the very downbeat. It was the gig of a lifetime for me. What you see on this DVD is what it was like to play in front of the largest audience of my career, playing music that I loved, love, and fell in love with again in a much bigger way than I had before." The concert was presented by Keeping the Blues Alive (KTBA), which Bonamassa founded to promote the heritage of the blues to the next generation, fund music scholarships, and supplement the loss of music education programs in public schools. With ticket sales from the show, KTBA raised more than $40,000 for schools across the country. What was proven on this night, with $40,000 raised for charity and 9,000 fans dancing to Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf songs, is that blues music is alive. and well.

Revvin’ Up The Rockabilly
Who: The surging Big Daddy Deluxe is one of the few working rockabilly acts in the Long Island region, with a busy schedule that includes many of the area’s top venues. The Artists & Their Sound: From their official bio: “Big Daddy Deluxe was formed in 2009 by four musicians from a Craig's list ad, looking for something different from the same old blues and classic rock bands flooding the live music scene. What can a bunch of middle-aged guys do and not look silly doing it ... rockabilly. That’s it! “Being huge fans of Johnny Cash, Early Elvis, Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, and The Stay Cats, we started to work together forming a new band. Although there were some early changes to the lineup, BDD started scratching their way into a very non-supportive live music scene. There were very few places this style of music went over, and we found none of them in our first year, so after much rejection and having to explain what rockabilly was to what seemed like each and every bar and club owner in Long Island, we took it upon ourselves to cut our own way: We rented a Moose Lodge in Lindenhurst and asked two other rockabilly bands we knew if they wanted to take a chance with us Megan and do a show. We could not Paligoina believe our eyes when we went over the hall attendance capacity and there were 50s hot rods parked outside, guys with greased back hair and pompadours, cuffed jeans, and leather motorcycle jackets, and girls with Bettie Page hair styles, tattoos, and vintage dresses. It was a blast back in time, and the beginning of something new, and now it’s been going strong for six years. “Big Daddy Deluxe holds about four rockabilly events each year, such as The Rave, The Rumble, The Blast Off, and The Shake Rattle & Chrome at a much bigger Moose Lodge now, with plenty of room for car shows with Long Island car clubs such as The Boulevard Bombers and Tiki Kings, pinup contests, swing dance lessons, dance contests, or hula hoop contests. Also featured are specialty vendors such as Rockabilly Barbers, which are appreciated by fans young and old alike. This scene was always out there for the few hardcore rockabilly fans – it just needed someone to give it a shot in the arm and pull all the elements together.” Big Daddy Deluxe is comprised of Don Caffey (vocals, acoustic guitar), Megan Palagoina (vocals, percussion), Steve Gamiello (guitar), Frank Azzaretto (upright bass), and Chris Zoll (drums). To Learn More About The Band: Log on to bigdaddydeluxe.net. Upcoming shows include May 23 at Otto’s Sea Grill in Freeport, and May 31 at Off Key Tiki in Patchogue.

The Velvet Underground
Max's Kansas City, the Park Avenue South (at 17th Street) venue where the worldwide underground was brought together for the first time in 1965 by original owner Mickey Ruskin. Yes, in 1965, when The Beatles and The Supremes were the stars of the pop and rock universe, Andy Warhol and his “Factory” superstars made the new Max's Kansas City their second home. As the word spread, actors, authors, artists, and music stars flocked there to see and be seen.
The Holy Modal Rounders
It was at Max's that Warhol's band, The Velvet Underground with Lou Reed, found its way, and introduced a new, dark, menacing form of rock that ultimately gave birth to the early 70s NY glitter/glam scene, as well as the punk and new wave scenes that followed. The New York Dolls,
Bruce Springsteen, Cheap Trick, and Aerosmith all scored record deals from gigs at Max's. Madonna, The B-52s, Devo, and The Beastie Boys, to name a few, did their earliest New York City gigs there. In 1975, ownership in the club shifted from Ruskin to Tommy Dean, while CBGB opened on the Bowery to share the audience first cultivated at Max's. Manager and talent booker Peter Crowley literally birthed the "hardcore” scene with his late 70s /early 80s shows at Max's, and that newfound genre began to spread worldwide. Max's Kansas City closed at the end of 1981, but its legacy lives on – and will be celebrated on June 4 through 7 at downtown landmark Bowery Electric, a stone's throw from where CBGB once resided. Make your plans to be there. RIP To A Legend: Rest in peace Bernard Stollman, the founder of the first underground record label, ESP-Disk, home to such artists as The Fugs, Pearls Before Swine, Sun Ra, The Holy Modal Rounders, Charles Manson (!) and Timothy Leary; Stolman was 85. He will be missed.

A Truly Epic Turn Of Events
Mariah Carey:
Multi-platinum global superstar and Long Island native Mariah Carey recently signed with Epic Records. She now returns to Sony Music, where her hit-making career began with a history-making string of 18 Hot 100 #1 hits that made her the best-selling female artist of all time. "I couldn't be more thrilled to be back together again with Mariah," said Sony's Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who made the signing. "There is really no one who comes close to Mariah as both a songwriter and a singer, and as the world knows, her vocal range is legendary and truly incomparable. Her music is indelibly etched into our culture, and she's shattered so many chart records that she's now firmly entrenched in the history books. With a fierce and loyal fan base that covers every corner of the globe, I have no doubt Mariah will do it again." Carey's first album release will be #1 To Infinity, arriving in stores May 18. Having just wrapped up a tour with Andy Grammer and Alex & Sierra, the redhot New York City-based singer/songwriter Rachel Platten has announced she’ll join Colbie Caillat and Christina Perri as a special guest on “The Girls Night Out, Boys Can Come Too Tour” this summer. The cross country trek kicks off July 10 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, and stops on July 16 at Shorefront Park in Patchogue as part of The Great South Bay Music Festival. Platten's new single “Fight Song” is quickly striking a chord; at press
time, the song had reached the Top 20 at Adult Pop radio and is the format’s greatest gainer, while early support continues to come in at Pop radio, including Radio Disney. Platten has also been named Vevo's DSCVR artist for the month of May. “Fight Song” is available everywhere now, including iTunes and Spotify. Platten is currently finishing her debut full-length album for Columbia Records, expected to be released later this year. For more, visit rachelplatten.com.

Melody Gardot:
Melody Gardot recently premiered her lead single, “Preacherman,” from her forthcoming studio album, Currency Of Man, to be issued on the Verve/Decca label on June 2. The song’s video illustrates the story of the murder of Emmett Till, a touchstone in 20th Century America race relations. "The song is inspired by the story of Emmett Till,” said Gardot. “It talks about his life, but more importantly it centers on the idea that racism is not dead. Sixty years ago he died, the same way that Trayvon Martin died – for nothing – and to put it plainly, I'm tired of it. The lyrics recount this young boy's story, as it deserves to be told and remembered, but more importantly the song also begs the question: 'How many times do we have to repeat ourselves before we learn from our mistakes?'"
