Since the release of his first Christmas album, Christmas, in 1981, Rogers has embarked on an annual “Christmas & Hits Tour,” which Kenny continues this winter Rogers as the “Once Again It’s Christmas Tour” featuring Linda Davis. The final stop on this year's tour is December 23 at The NYCB Theatre in Westbury, where the tour has stopped for the past several years in a row. Induction ceremonies will be held on Monday, February 1 at Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Resort & Hotel as part of The FireLake PBA Tournament of Champions. O’Neale built the PBA South Region tournament program into the organization’s most successful proving ground for aspiring young Pete players Couture over a span of 31 years before his retirement in 2011. Schreiner, who served as the ESPN television voice of the PBA between 1986 and 1995, also was a skilled bowler who joined the PBA media staff in Akron short after his graduation from the University of Akron as the PBA Tour Broadcast Director. Couture, 70, was elected in the PBA50 Performance category based on his exceptional record for a minimum of 10 years as a “senior” competitor. The Connecticut native has earned $959,900 during his PBA career.

needs either the Red Bulls or the New York City Football Club, which had a so-so first season, to win a championship to really put soccer back on the map. Making the decision to retire couldn’t have been easy for The Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, since he did not commit to it until one month of the season had passed. At age 37, Bryant is not the superstar he once was, but based on the early November Lakers-Nets game, it appears that he still can shoot the ball quite well. The problem is that once you have been one of the greatest players in NBA history, it’s hard to accept merely being a “good player.” Expect Showtime to broadcast its documentary, Kobe Bryant’s Muse (which debuted at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival) quite often between now and the end of the NBA season. Will Peyton Manning will follow Bryant’s

The Denver Broncos benched the 39year-old star this year after a number of shockingly inept starts.Manning was replaced by QB Brock Osweiler, a key reason why the Broncos ended The New England Patriots’ quest for an undefeated season two weeks ago. The New York Jets had a ton of problems at cornerback last year, and so it’s easy to understand why GM Mike Maccagnan brought back Antonio Cromartie and Darrell Revis. Their signings generated a lot of goodwill lost during John Idzik’s inept two-year stint as general manager. Unfortunately, being an NFL cornerback has become a young man’s job; both Cromartie and Revis have had trouble keeping up with fleet receivers such as The Tennesse Titans’ DeAndre Hopkins and The Miami Dolphins’ Jarvis Landry. Yet, here’s some credit to Idzik: He is currently an executive with The Jacksonville Jaguars. Those who leave ESPN for greener pastures frequently return: Two years ago, the NBC Sports Network offered big bucks to Michelle Beadle to leave ESPN, but they didn’t seem to have a game plan to properly utilize her talents. Beadle is back in Bristol hosting the fun and fastpaced weekday afternoon show “Sports Nation. “ Antonio Cromartie Now, word has come down that Rachel Nichols, who jumped ship around the same time that Beadle did (for CNN), is coming back to ESPN as well. CNN gave Nichols her own show, but it was in the strange timeslot of Friday nights at 10:30 pm, when sports fans are generally watching games. She was also hired before Jeff Zucker took over the reigns at CNN; it’s an educated guess is that he did not see anything sports related as a good fit for his news network.

Burgers Galore & More: Ceriello 541 Leads The Pack
Who would have thought that the common burger would be elevated in the culinary world to heights never dreamed of? Chefs, cooks, and businessman are all scrambling to get in on the latest gold rush in food fads. Gone are the yogurts and health food trends; in are the double cheese with all the toppings.

A colleague threw down the gauntlet last issue when he declared Spanky's Food Factory in Garden City Park at the top of the game, and a visit confirmed this is a strong contender for raves. And the daily newspaper (I forget its name) had a cover story on the 10 “Top Burgers On Long Island.” While many of their choices are indeed excellent, Good Times has selected some choices that won't require a bank loan and are true finds. The daily's #1 is ours also: Ceriello 541 Club of Williston Park. I've been to hundreds of burger places over the years, eaten thousands of burgers, and have to write: This is the best burger I've ever eaten! What makes this burger so special is its blend of four cuts: brisket, sirloin, short ribs, and chuck. Andy, the owner, has a group of Ceriello food markets throughout Long Island and two in Maryland, but opened a burger joint in the small store next to his market in Williston Park.The burger is a hefty six ounces and comes with free toppings that include bacon, cheese, caramelized onions and other choices – and the price for this monster? $5.99! Can you handle that? Plus for an even $10, you can get exquisite french fries and a soda – not just any kind, but all Stewart's bottles are included. The burger is covered while cooking on the griddle to keep in the juices, and this is one juicy burger. This is a small place with about a dozen seats, but to anyone who craves quality and price, it’s well worth the trip. What also makes Ceriello special is the crew that man the grill, Jannee and John. They have cooking the burgers just right down to an art form. Ceriello 541 Club, 541 Willis Aveune, Williston Park, (516) 747-0277 Another place we found by accident is Burger City in East Meadow in the parking lot of Zachary's shopping center. Opened in August, and in the building that once housed Rita's water ices, this no frill place is a throwback to the great burger joints of old. Nothing fancy, limited menu, but burgers worth the wait as the line sometimes snakes out the front door. Shack Shack may have
the rep, but Burger City delivers the goods. Burgers are $1.65, Doubles are $2.65...these are tasty and satisfying, in the tradition of All American. Jimmy and Johnny, the owners ,have run many successful restaurants and businesses, including the famous Swim Club in Forest Hills. A quarter pound burger with cheese is only
money. Three little slices of brisket, plus one cut up and being passed off as burnt ends for 14 bucks? Keyword: DRY. Totally overcooked, no fat at all, grey looking. And to make matters worse, they don't put any sauce on. Now, when we hit all the BBQ joints in Lockhart, Texas, we could allow for no sauce in a place like Kreuz's because it

$3.30, shakes are an unbelievable $2.50. My mouth waters as I write this. Fries, rings, and hot dogs fill out the offerings. Burger City is located at 1900A Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow; (516) 285-3355. A shout out to Sid's in Glen Cove. This is another great find, inside what must have been an old Carvel in its day. The Sid's House Burger is a delicious quarter pounder topped with grilled onions, pickles, tomato, and Russian dressing, only $5.85. Decent fries; also try the Texas Burger, which is topped with onion petals, BBQ sauce, and Texas chipotle sauce. For something a little heartier, Sid's also serves up a cheese steak hero for $8.75 that's pretty darn good. Sid's, 80 Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Cove; (516) 200-9071. This is the just the beginning of our burger expeditions. Coming up will be Texas Ranger in Freeport, Local Burger in Bay Shore, and Holy Cow in Rockville Centre. Do you have any places you believe should be added to the list? Closing out: Although it's not burgers, we have to mention a visit to BrisketTown in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We drove 35 miles to get a really poor meal. At $14 a 1/2 pound, this is a total waste of

didn't need it. The meat here was so dry, we wound up putting hot sauce on it just to give it a taste. Pulled pork was a notch up, and the potato salad at $5 was another waste – red potatoes with a bland dressing (non mayo). BrisketTown has been written up as a great place, but if you check Yelp and Chowhound, some of the reviews are negative. Add us to that list: It was $32 for a meal we wouldn't go to White Castle for.

Shockingly, the crowd seemed eager to hear the new material, and never letup the high energy and heavy applause. As the concert headed toward its end, McGraw’s voice sounded as if it was just getting warmed up. Closing with “Live Like You Were Dying,” McGraw gave the fans one last hit before walking off stage. On tour with special guest openers King Washington, their See What You Started By Continuing was the band’s first album in six years. Looking to make their mark once again in Huntington, Collective Soul was back at The Paramount for a rock filled evening. Opening with the hit December, Collective Soul erupted on the stage as if it were their debut tour back in the 90s. As the high energy surged through the crowd, lead singer Ed Roland moved as if he were in his prime. A man who once sported long hair and loose dress shirts, now showed a fresh, stylish trim and skinny jeans! Although not in the same skin as
he once was, the sound of his sounding guitars. Shaking hands and saying their goodbyes, they took their final exit while leaving Ed singing solo with the audience. Swaying around before strumming back into the shadows of the stage, Roland played a few more chords in the dark before calling it a night and closing out a memorable evening for the fans. Readers of Good Times who have followed us over the years know that we've spent lots of time in musical instrument stores...everything from Rudy's and Manny's to Sam Ash and our local stores like Monster and Murphy's. A recent visit to Scott Russ Music in Merrick turned into a visit to Santa in his workshop. Eclectic would be a understatement in describing Scott Russ Music. Scott's family has been in the music business for over 75 years. Scott remembers every corner of the family home being crammed full with instruments, amps,
organs, you name it, the cat was probably sleeping on it. Scott's father put together the prototype for the Hagstrom 8 string guitar. His parents were owners of the original Ampeg Amplifier Company, and it was this love of music that Scott carries on today. Many stores have interesting or unusual items. This store is built on them...How about a $12,000 sax? Or perhaps a harp from 1799 that was owned by the King Of France? You want ukuleles? How about rare one of a kind models? This is not to say that Scott deals only in high end items...he has guitars, amps, flutes, clarinets for
every price range, and every visitor gets treated like a king, regardless of their budget. At Scott Russ, each department is a specialty shop in itself, with experts to guide you through the maze of instruments and brands. The Slim Kings

The Slim Kings is a new group combining the time-tested styles of blues and rock &’ roll. The band features drummer Liberty DeVitto, formerly of Billy Joel’s band, alongside singer and rhythm guitarist Michael Sackler-Berner, lead guitarist Henry Geller, and bassist Andy Attanasio. The Slim Kings have recently opened for ZZ Top, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, and The Spin Doctors. In the last year, their music has been featured on several TV programs. The band is currently recording with producers Steve Jordan and Joel Hamilton while headlining clubs in the tri-state area. “I like classic rock,” said Liberty. “That’s what I grew up creating. However, I don’t want to be in a classic rock band. Michael, Henry, and Andy bring fresh ideas and sounds to the table.There’s a hint of old blues in there, but it’s a contemporary style.” “It’s a delicate balance,” Michael agreed. “Liberty takes us back to the heart. Henry, Andy and I have the pleasure of playing alongside those roots, rather than emulating them. It’s a rare privilege.” It began in 2012 when Michael, working as a solo artist, cold-called Liberty. He asked Liberty, a drumming icon, to play on an indie session he had booked the very next day. Liberty listened to the music online and called back 15 minutes later. Now, with The Slim Kings, they have solidified their musical partnership as bandmates. “A cross country move and two albums later, the music just keeps coming,” says Henry. “We write songs and love doing it. We play around with different sounds to make exciting music that we mix with interesting and witty lyrics.” A quick glance through The Slim Kings’ thousands of active Facebook fans, and it is clear that the band is making the kind of rock music that transcends generations: 18-year-old college girls, 60-year-old British blokes, 25-year-old Brooklyn hipsters, 40-year-old Midwestern housewives, 50-yearold Jersey cops, and 30-year-old big city lawyers all sport Slim Kings shirts and socks while keeping tabs on the band’s every move. “I want everyone to feel good about getting back into real players playing real music,” Liberty said. “There are always cycles in this business. Bowie: The Rise & Rebirth: The holidays sometimes bring us goodies from our favorites, and this was a double goody for me: new items from the two stars that I never wanted to meet or interview – not because I didn't adore
"Sorrow," and the now-iconic "Rebel Rebel," flopped in America as homophobia had won the day. Another iconic Bowie tune, "Changes," was released as a single here twice, and barely creaked to the bottom of the Top 40. The career-making hit from the Ziggy Stardust album, "Starman," caused barely a ripple. Bowie had to divest himself of the glam plumage and become a “Soul Train” star with "Young Americans," "Golden Years," and his first U.S. #1, "Fame," and found radio acceptance here – and here, without radio, you don't exist. The soul cycle was followed by the art rock projects with Brian Eno and Robert Fripp, which led to another shutout by radio. The anthemic "Heroes," which resonated so powerfully on 9/11 and now is known to everyone, also stiffed at U.S, radio, and he was shut out again until the EMI deal. Bowie left RCA and his MainMan

them, but because I did adore them and was afraid that my fan status might be ruined after hearing so many stories about them. One of the stars, Diana Ross,
has a new/old previously unreleased album on the digital market now; the other one, David Bowie, has resurfaced in this festive season with a totally new release, Black Star, which is intense and hypnotic like the best of his work. I wondered if we'd get anything like this from him ever again after hearing that he was in poor health and no longer performing, yet, he has delivered. Bowie now is at a stage where he feels comfortable doing the type of artsy projects that always fascinated him. In the 70s, his biggest concern was selling records; he had assumed so many poses and styles prior to glitter/glam rock and the Ziggy Stardust era that made him a sensation everywhere in the world except America. Here he was a fair-sized cult star, since album rock radio and Top 40 both avoided the “gay thing” that was the signature of glam. Bowie only had one glam hit here, "Space Oddity," thanks to some special visits to radio DJs by his public relations lady, the fabulous Cherry Vanilla; we won't go into any further details on that. All the other singles released here by RCA – "Jean Genie," "Time," "Let's Spend The Night Together,"
management deal for a big money contact with EMI, and the result was the Let's Dance album and single, followed by "China Girl" and "Modern Love," and Bowie was suddenly the biggest star in America. The early 80s arrival of MTV helped him enormously, and the singles success of "Blue Jean" and "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" kept him on top until he went deep into art rock again, and faded further and further from the mainstream. Now, 40-plus years later, being an original Bowie boy since 1972, I am happy to welcome him back with Black Star and whatever might follow – and I thank him for being the catalyst that dragged me into the early 70s NYC rock scene in the first place.

U2 returned to Paris to play their two concerts postponed from November because of the terrorist attacks in the city. The band performed on December 6 and 7 as the rescheduled concerts; the band brought Eagles Of Death Metal onstage as guests on December 7. Speaking from Dublin ahead of the opening night of U2’s four-night run in their hometown that preceded the return to Paris, Bono commented: “So much that was taken from Paris on the tragic night of November 13 is irreplaceable. For one night, the killers took lives, took music, took peace of mind – but they couldn’t steal the spirit of that city.
