while before finally getting an official release date … so think twice about bringing your date, The unless she's seriously into Monolos. How To Be Single (February 12): Ahh, Choice the elusive search for love in New York City; based on the popular novel by Liz Tuccillo – and produced by Drew Barrymore. The stunning cast includes Dakota Johnson, Alison Bree, Leslie Mann, Rebel Wilson, and Greek god of the moment Jason Mantzoukas. This one, to us at least, has the best chance of being a hit; Wilson’s work looks stellar this time out. Providence (February 12): You might have to look around a bit to find this serious drama – told in “silent cinema” style – about a love affair that takes decades to blossom. From all accounts, this faith-based film is far better than most of its usually corny genre; this new film has already drawn raves from more than a few quarters.

(“Show Me Love," "Luv 4 Luv"). Of particular note is the appearance by Kim Sozzi, one of the most succesful music performers ever to hail from Long Island. Her enthusiasm for music began at an early age at her home in Melville; propelled by watching her father's band rehearse and perform, she felt strongly that music would be her life's work. “Growing up, my father's band rehearsed every day and performed every weekend. I always saw myself on stage with a microphone entertaining audiences. It became a passionate goal for me to pursue. My whole family is very musical; my grandmother was an opera singer, and my mom's dad is a Latin percussionist.” An aspiring musical sensation tempered by practicality, Sozzi attended college and majored in business with a minor in vocal performance. The experience, she said, allowed her to master both the technical and creative sides of music production, as well as recording and editing. It was 1997 when Sozzi recorded a four-song demo that landed in the hands of Sony Music president Tommy Mottola, which led to Sozzi signing her first major recording deal with Columbia Records. The deal with Columbia led to Sozzi's first single, the ballad “Letting Go,” which would go on to sell more than two million copies worldwide. Sozzi became a hot commodity, and performed with The Lilith Fair Tour in 1998. Soon after, her next single, “Till I Cry You Out Of Me” was released, and was featured on the Teaching Mrs. Tingle soundtrack. Sozzi's first single with the production team of Frank and Christian Berman, “Feelin’ Me,” along with remixes by Grammy award winner Hex Hector, Jonathan Peters, and Rosabel, became a huge dance hit, peaking at #4 on the dance charts in 2001. There isn't much Sozzi hasn't done, and has scored a wealth of
international hits while keeping busy in the producting and performing ends of the music business. Among her highlights: The international hit “Every 1's A Winner”; the dance floor smash “Can't Go On”; the hit “How Did You Know,” recorded with the group Mynt; the WKTU radio staple “Alone”; “Breakup,” featuring a remix by Cascada; the classic hit “Feel Your Love” (the most-played dance song of 2009); appearing in shows with such luminaries as Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Pitbull, The Pussycat Dolls, Flo-Rida, Colby O’Donis, John Mayer, Fantasia, The Backstreet Boys, and too many more accomplishments than we can list here. A multi-talened star, Sozzi also has appeared Off-Broadway, starring in the comedy hit “My Big Gay Wedding” playing the role of Aunt Toni Ann. She's even the voice you can currently hear on “WWE Raw” and at live wrestling events on the song “You Can Look (But You Can't Touch)” – better known as the ring entrance music for the glamorous WWE divas Nikki and Bree Bella.
Reina: Hitmaking Romantic
Sozzi has accomplished so much in her varied musical career that this NYCB performance marks the beginning of what's sure to be another successful year for this beautiful and influential pop music star.

New York Mets fans finally exhaled as their favorite team reached a three-year, $75 million deal with outfielder Yoenis Cespedes just before Snowstorm Jonas got here; Cespedes has the right to opt out of his contract at the

end of the 2016 season. While the Mets are a stronger team with a healthy Cespedes, the Cuban slugger comes with his share of liabilities. He’s streaky, as Mets fans discovered once the post-season began; he also can be nonchalant at times. If a catcher drops a third strike, he will sometimes head back to the dugout instead of forcing a throw to first base. I was also troubled how he took his sweet time retrieving a ball that he booted in center field during Game 5 of the World Series. Cespedes cited the atmosphere in the Mets clubhouse as a key factor in his willingness to compromise with the Mets while leaving a more lucrative deal that came from the Washington Nationals on the table.
Bowling
Cespedes’s fondness towards his teammates may be the work of pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who took it upon himself to have a company produce “Yo Knows Baseball!” T-shirts and distribute them to teammates in September. The Mets upgraded their bullpen by adding free agent lefty reliever Antonio Bastardo. If fellow southpaw Jerry Blevins can pitch like he did before getting pelted with a line drive that basically finished his 2015 campaign just as it started, the Mets will have improved a glaring weak spot. Mets manager Terry Collins’s life was nicely recapped in an MLB Network special, “Terry Collins: A Life In Baseball.” Collins credited Jim Leyland for getting him to the big Yoenis leagues. Collins thought that for Cespedes sure that he had managed his last game in September 1999 when he resigned as skipper of the California Angels. It’s a shame that the show didn’t get the viewership it should have; it went up against President Obama’s final State of the Union address. The New York Yankees received good news when the Miami-Dade, Florida DA’s office did not present charges against pitcher Aroldis Chapman after his arrest on a domestic violence charge. It will be interesting to see how manager Joe Girardi will utilize Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, and Chapman out of the bullpen. Interestingly, Chapman,

Esiason and Craig Carton. More on retirements: Boxer Manny Pacquiao claims that his April 9 fight with Timothy Bradley at the MGM Grand Las Vegas will be his last – but you can bet that if Floyd Mayweather offers him a rematch and the gazillions that would come with it that he would seize the opportunity in a heartbeat. Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, got a bit political during a recent press conference at The Theater At Madison Square Garden to promote the fight. First, Arum attacked Donald Trump for his stance on immigration. Later on, he urged Wall Street types to come to Las Vegas and watch the fight because Bernie Sanders is going to break up their firms and tax them at a 90 percent marginal tax rate if he’s elected, so they might as well enjoy
themselves now. The Brooklyn Nets finally got around to dismissing inept general manager Billy King as well as head coach Lionel Hollins, who was basically a sacrificial lamb. Red Auerbach, Red Holzman, and Phil Jackson rolled into one couldn’t do much with this untalented team. Things went from bad to worse when the Nets lost point guard Jarrett Jack to a knee injury. Interim head Tony Brown will likely not stick; the Nets would be wise to look at David Blatt, recently fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers because LeBron James did not like him in spite of his excellent won-loss record to that point. Merrick’s Noah Rubin won his first Grand Slam tennis match when he upset Benoit Paire in the first round of The Australian Open. Unfortunately, Pierre-Hugues Herbert knocked him out two days later. At least Rubin can have the satisfaction of knowing that he won more prize money from “down under” this year than Rafael Nadal, since “Rafa” was bounced in the first round. The New York City Football Club made a good selection in hiring former English Premier League star Patrick Vieira to succeed Jason Kreis as manager of the Major League Soccer franchise, which plays its home games at Yankee Stadium. Hopefully, Vieira will do a better job at making sure that NYCFC doesn’t cough up late goals this season the way that they did during the last campaign. Sensual Gear For '16: OhMiBod made a major mark during at its sixth visit to CES, the world’s largest showcase of emerging technology. The sex tech manufacturer featured a pair of new products: TASL, an interactive app with sexual health and wellbeing functionality, and Lovelife krush, a smart Kegel exerciser that uses haptic feedback (visual and vibratory) and voice-guided training programs to aid women in strengthening pelvic floor (PC) muscles. The Lovelife krush is connected via BLE 4.0 (Bluetooth Low Energy) and equipped with built-in sensor technology. The Kegel exerciser is also an internable — a new class of health-monitoring devices that are located within the body instead of worn externally. These advanced features make the Lovelife krush a natural evolution of OhMiBod's growing line of connected pleasure products.

“The majority of women experience a weakening of the pelvic floor due to childbirth and age,” said Suki Dunham, founder of OhMiBod. “Our Lovelife krush measures the pressure, control, endurance, and grip of PC muscles and helps women strengthen them through training challenges. Stronger PC muscles can lead to stronger, more intense orgasms. They also aid in keeping incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse at

bay.” With the new TASL (The Art and Science of Love) app, OhMiBod cements its position at the intersection of technology and sexual health. TASL offers PC muscle fitness training with enhanced lifestyle tracking and dashboard monitoring — ideal functionality for those who own the Lovelife krush. The innovative app can also be used for pleasure. It features built-in patterns and uses gamification to help motivate users to achieve training goals that, in turn, will unlock hidden features. “Studies have shown a direct correlation between healthy sex lives and physical and emotional well-being,” said Dunham. “TASL allows people to put the keys to better sexual health directly in their hands.” The Lovelife krush can be ordered at livelifetoys.com. lead vocalist Kelly Hansen, bass guitarist Jeff Pilson, and multiinstrumentalist Tom Gimbel. An unprecedented new level of energy commenced in 2002 when Jones decided to take Foreigner to the next level when he was joined by Hansen on vocals, which has led to a re-emergence of the band's music that speaks to longtime fans and younger generations. Foreigner hit the Billboard charts again with the 2005 release of their live greatest hits album, Extended Versions. Can’t Slow Down followed in 2009, and entered the Billboard chart in the Top 30, driven by two Top 20 radio singles, “In Pieces” and “When It Comes To Love.” To follow was the release of the band’s three-disc set, Feels Like The First Time, which included an acoustic CD with re-interpretations of many Foreigner classics, studio rerecords by the new lineup, and a live performance DVD showcasing the group’s live show. ongtime modern rock superstars Puddle Of Mudd return to the area when they headline on Friday, February 14 (doors open at 7:30 pm) at Revolution Music Hall in Amityville. Killcode, Blue Movie, For The Kill, After Augustine, and What They Died For round out a stacked bill of serious rock presented by Club Loaded; tickets are $20 in advance or $25 day of show for this 18-and-older show. Advance tickets are at clubloaded.com. POM, as some of their most ardent fans refer to the band, is currently in the studio recording their sixth studio album after such now-classics as Come Clean, Famous, and Life On Display. The band – Wesley Reid Scantlin, Matt Fuller, Dave Moreno, and Michael John Adams – has gone a long time since their last full-length non-compliation album, Volume 4: Songs In The Key Of Love & Hate, was issued in December 2009. At the time of that release, when lead
PUDDLE OF MUDD Ready To Rock Anew At Revolution
singer Scantlin was asked about the recording and writing of that album, he responded with the same spirit of carefree wanderlust that defines his band: "It's all easy peezy, dude,

no big deal at all..." Not to him, maybe. Scantlin is custommade for the new millennium, a rock star without the pretense, and a frontman whose spontaneity propels his offstage personality as much as it does his onstage delivery. On Volume 4, Scantlin delivers the same savvy lyrics that fans have come to expect since the band's multi-platinum debut, Come Clean, weaving subtle innuendo and not-so-subtle lyrical wordplay around vocal hooks so thick, they even seem to make life's more sour realities easier to swallow. Case in point,
"Psycho," the smash single from the band's 2007 release Famous that rationalizes a relationship with, 'maybe I'm the one, who is, a schizophrenic psycho.'” Famous, like both albums before it, was certified gold after selling more than 500,000 copies in America alone. Propelled by "Psycho," the album cemented Puddle of Mudd's status as bona-fide hit makers, and earned them industry accolades including Billboard's #1 Mainstream Rock Song of 2008 and #2 Rock Band of the Year, where they finished second only to Foo Fighters.

Who: Alissa Cavallaro, a young Long Island-based singer still in her teens, was recently featured in our recently Good Times/ReverbNation “Top 30” summary – which led to us looking into the story of this already famed pop music star on the rise. Her anti-bullying single with Big Daddy Kane, “Journey Isn’t Over,” propelled the young singer into the national consciousness in 2014. The Artist & Her Sound: From her bio: “Since the tender age of 9, music has been young Alissa's passion. Since that time, it has become her destiny. Self-described as ‘weird,’ she won an the ‘Amateur Night’ competition at the famous Apollo Theater in New York City at that young age. Since that time, she has performed halftime at Madison Square Garden for a Knicks/Lakers game at 11 years of age, and wowed audiences at venues such as The Nassau Coliseum, The Izod Center, Jones Beach, Sullivan Hall, and The Bitter End. “This wunderkind from Long Island had initially set her sights on being an actress; that goal has been pushed to second by Alissa's entry into the music business, though she still does a variety of acting performances for the New York Film Academy's short film initiative. Alissa's music career is a family affair, with her parents, Patti and Anthony, being the catalyst that opened the door for Alissa to actually meet her inspiration, Alicia Keys, thanks to their appearance on NBC's reality show ‘The Marriage Ref.’ The family's trip to Atlantic City in conjunction with the show put Alissa front and center with Ms. Keys. Alissa's musical resolve, focus, and determination were summarily strengthened by witnessing her role model up close and personal. A ‘different kid, who marches to the beat of her own drummer’ according From Her Single: Big Daddy Kane to both herself and her mom, the animated Alissa's musicianship includes piano and ukelele. Yes – ukelele. Having received it as a gift, she is drawn to its sweet, singular sound, and effortlessly incorporates it into her music. A trend-setter at an age when other kids are following, Alissa journeyed to Los Angeles with her mom, where she met and worked with her now-producer Tim Brown, aka Father MC. He wrote and produced her first album on Famous Records, ‘I Am That Girl.’ Alissa's new single, ‘Papers,’ became a #2 hit on ReverbNation’s Long Island chart.” To Learn More About The Artist: Log on to alissacavallaro.com, or find the young star at Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Charts (Or What’s Left Of Them): There is talk in the industry about how unimportant music is to the current generation. The stars aren't as big, the songs don't last like they used to, kids just treat it all as wallpaper; all of that is true, but
records they played by the mid-70s to an “adult contemporary” format and later disco, avoiding big-selling records that rocked (notably "I Love Rock & Roll" by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts as an example). By the early 80s, the brilliant Scott Shannon brought it all back – a new Tuesday countdown show, the suvey sheets in the stores, and more – with the arrival of Z100, but as technology changed things, all that went by the wayside as well. The Internet transformed music, MTV actually stopped playing music, and other factors came into play; video games became the center of the universe. Rock bands became less rocking or too extreme for radio, and "American Idol” syndrome replaced wanting to be a rock star with wanting to be a "Glee" club assembly line warbler. Despite all of that, Top 40 remains one of the most popular formats in terrestrial radio. Z100 still owns the New York metro area. Long Island's WBLI remains a

things are different from when I was a kid. Media has changed the perception of the music – as well as the stars that make the music – by the way it is presented or portrayed, especially when it comes to radio. I can only compare things now to the way things were when I was young, impressionable, and excited about every little squeak and spark that came out of the radio. As with most kids, you want to belong, you want to be “in,” and the music of the late 1950s and early 1960s (I was born in 1952) was tailormade for the young. Radio was the magic doorway, and in New York, for me, that was WABC-AM 77, Cousin Brucie where “Cousin” Meets The Beatles Bruce Morrow, Dan Ingram, Ron Lundy, Chuck Leonard, and all the other deejays held sway. You knew what was what on Tuesday nights, when Cousin Brucie would unveil the new super power, but they play 11 “Top 20 Countdown,” and you’d find records in a row without identifying out what was new, what was on the any of them (and in an era when way out, and what was #1. Lily Meola:
Her Album Is Finally Here
Maui-born singer/songwriter Lily Meola, covered in this column a few months back, is finally set to release her first full-length album, They Say. Meola's got the kind of voice that can deliver swingin' honky-tonk, cool jazz-blues, or a gospel-pure "Hallelujah" with equal dexterity. Now 21, she's been cultivating that voice since childhood. She obviously delivers the goods: The new album features duets with a pair of longtime country music legends in Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. Meola is already famous for her work with Nelson and other top artists both live and in the studio (including the Nelson hit “Will You Remember Mine”); she’s also dueted with other stars along the country music festival trail. Now, with Micah Nelson and Erick Helmcamp as producers, the new album will contain at least two of
her songs, she says, in addition to tracks written for her by her friends Tabitha Coldiron, Luke Houglum, Lukas Nelson, and Jim "Moose" Brown. Learn more at lilymeola.com.
