A Sumptuous Citi: It's a question asked every day: What's the best restaurant in New York City?

While there can be no definitive answer, there may be a new factor that's true in fine dining: Citi Field in Flushing, home of the New York Mets since 2009, may very well be among the most logical answers to that age-old question.

Citi Field hosted a “What's New For 2016” event for the media on March 30 that was designed to display such new features at the newly renamed Coca-Cola Corner in right field – but it was the food news that hit a home run at the unveiling. Huge Guitar Show In Freeport: The fifth edition of The New York Guitar Expo will be April 23 and 24 at The Freeport Recreation Center.

Guitar players and enthusiasts can buy, sell, and trade with a range of dealers and collectors, including Taylor Guitars, Supro Amps, Gbase, and others including gear manufacturers and custom builders. For 2016, the Expo and Taylor Guitars will give away a Taylor 214CE Grand Auditorium acoustic guitar; in another attraction, the first 50 paid attendees each day will receive a free set of D’Addario Guitar Strings.

This year’s Expo will be the biggest to date; this event will feature 10,000 square feet of guitars and gear, as well as a private pedal and amp room.

One of the biggest sporting events in Long Island returns as the 2016 Long Island Marathon takes place on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1. Info is at (516) 986-5537, or log on to run-li.com.

As EDM becomes more and more popular, artists are coming out of the woodwork. It seems as if every day there is a new genre that sprouts out of nowhere and a new track to try to follow in the EDM world. Everyone out there wants to be a producer and make it big.

However, it takes the right mix of PR, good music, and a personality to make this happen. With that being said, I’d just like to bring some attention to one of my favorite artists as of recently. I’m talking about everyone’s favorite campfire food, Marshmello. He came about last summer as an anonymous project promoting the idea that it’s really all about the music and not about the face on stage. And with that, Marshmello has gone on to create his own style of fluffy trap music, both original and remixes, that anyone I’ve shown vibes to. After his first show at HARD Day of the Dead, he’s gone on a huge touring spree and released fire hit after fire hit. I recently got the privilege of

Another relatively new festival to check out in upstate is Bethel Woods Mysteryland. This festival also boasts a variety of acts with a good amount of EDM at their core.

Some of the headliners include The Chainsmokers, Zeds Dead, Griz, Tchami, Gramatic, and Young Thug; other acts include Keys N Krates, Illenium, Aylen, Black Tiger Sex Machine, and Ty Dolla $ign. One interesting thing about this festival is that you have the option to include onsite camping for the three days of the festival so you don’t even have to leave the venue!

Tickets for this, with camping, will run you about $319, which is still pretty great. If you’re free from June 10 through 13, this is a place you definitely wanna be; not to mention it’s on the original Woodstock grounds.

All in all, this sweet film rivals even such classics as Toy Story 3 and My Dog Skip in terms of sheer, warm nostalgia.

There are plenty of laughs – sure, these are college dudes, so it’s frat humor – but the overall feel is the awakening of characters on the verge of growing up, both physically and spiritually, and it's a joy to watch.

Blake Jenner and Zoey Deutch are stars in the making; Linklater retains his status as the top “small” filmmaker of our time.

Here on Long Island, we already have 29 craft breweries across Nassau and Suffolk, and that continues to grow. We came up with the show concept and partnered with The Suffolk Theater in Riverhead for our first show.

The venue is very unique, as it's set up like a supper club, allowing for the tasting to take place while people are seated. The Suffolk Theater has been a great supporter of our live standup comedy showcases, and has been working with us for over four years now.

It's easy to imagine New York Mets fans heaving a sigh of relief when they learned that Matt Harvey’s non-baseball malady was a urological blood clot. There was understandable concern when Harvey was discharging

blood in his urine. It was determined that it was because he was not drinking enough liquids, and was, by his own testimony, delaying going to the bathroom more than he should have been. Once the word was out that Harvey was going to be fine, the meda – particularly tabloid sports department headline writers – went into overdrive with pee-pee double entendres (my favorites were Matt “What A Relief!” and “Fields of Harvey Streams”). Instead of being a good sport and going with the flow (yes, full pun intended), Harvey, as per custom, went into full diva pout mode and stopped talking to the media during the final week of spring training.

Harvey’s humorless reaction makes me wonder what kind of relationship he has with teammates. Based on my years of covering baseball, it’s clear that part of team culture is players busting chops. The baseball season is a long one,

Thwarted Motivs: It was a huge topic at area tournaments and league nights in recent weeks – in fact, before United States Bowling Congress (USBC)-sanctioned league play, many bowling centers announced that Motiv's two top of the line bowling balls – the Motiv Jackal and Jackal Carnage – could not be used as the balls were now considered “illegal,” according to the sport's governing body.

In mid-March, the USBC issued a statement regarding the banishment of the two products: “The revocation comes after USBC determined that the Jackal and Jackal Carnage balls do not comply with current specifications and requirements in the USBC Equipment Specifications and Certifications Manual,” wrote Terry Bigham of the USBC. “USBC testing showed a significant percentage of the Jackal and Jackal Carnage, both produced by Motiv, exceeded the maximum 0.060" differential radius of gyration standard specification during spot checks of bowling balls in the field. Both balls were originally approved based on test balls submitted by Motiv. The Jackal had been approved for competition in Sept. 2014 while the Jackal Carnage was approved for use in late Dec. 2015.”

The banishment of the two products caused such confusion that USBC executive directory Chad Murphy was compelled to issue an additional statement on March 29: “USBC first contacted Motiv on February 26 and notified them about the specification issue,” wrote Murphy. “This was more than two weeks before the revocation decision was announced. Statements suggesting that USBC had not communicated with Motiv, or that its decision was intended to blindside them without warning, simply are

Former Mets pitcher and longtime SNY analyst Ron Darling has written his second book, Game 7, 1986: Failure And Triumph In The Biggest Game Of My Life (St. Martin’s Press). This is the first of what will probably be the first of many books issued to mark the 30th anniversary of the Mets' last World Series championship. Darling did not pitch well in that deciding game, and was removed by manager Dave Johnson in the fourth inning. He admits that nerves got the better of him. Fortunately, he kept the Mets close enough for them to come back. Also in the book: Darling, for the first time, discusses an incident in a Houston bar during the summer of 1986 in which he and three of his teammates were arrested for battling with off-duty police officers who were moonlighting as private security. Darling also doesn’t hide his seeming disdain for Darryl Strawberry, although he does have a lot more compassion for Dwight Gooden.

Murphy noted in his statement that, despite the USBC's findings, Motiv allegedly seemed to want the two products to be reinstated.

“Motiv then published an official statement on its website taking a very different tone than its representatives did in my personal conversations with them about this issue,” wrote Murphy. “They state: 'We believe that both balls should be reinstated on the USBC Approved Ball List, we are reaching out to Chad and the USBC to have Murphy meaningful, effective dialogue to resolve this matter together in a manner that is best for all those affected by the USBC's decision and ruling, especially you, the bowlers, pro shops, bowling alleys, and enthusiasts.'

“USBC is open to a dialogue with Motiv, but our decision here was driven by data, not dialogue. Absent valid data to the contrary, there is no basis upon which USBC’s policies or rules contemplate reinstatement of approval for these balls. The data indicating an unacceptably high percentage of the balls are noncompliant, determines the outcome.”

Motiv, as of March 30, continued to state via press releases that it was seeking to have the two popular bowling balls reinstated for sanctioned play, while at the same time offering customers who purchased the balls the opportunity to exchange them for another MOTIV model.

“We have recently submitted an official request for appeal to the USBC because there is a great deal more information to consider in this unprecedented situation,” said Scott Hewitt of Motiv. “We need to address the ball approval and revocation process, and take a closer look at the procedures and policies in place.”

the appeal can access the ball exchange program via motivbowling.com. The program will provide an opportunity to exchange a Jackal or Jackal Carnage ball for a new Motiv ball. Even during the exchange process, Motiv seemed committed to fighting on.

“Motiv is committed to creating high-performance, precision-crafted balls that meet the high standards of competitive tournament bowlers,” wrote Scott Wilbur, president of Motiv. “The Jackal and Jackal Carnage balls were designed to give bowlers maximum performance.

We have never intentionally produced balls that were not compliant. After a Motiv ball is approved by the USBC, we go into full production at the target under which the approved balls were produced. That is why the decision to revoke approval was so shocking to us. We never changed our manufacturing process. We produced what was approved.

“Our greatest concern in all of this is the impact that this decision has had on our customers, the bowlers, pro shops, bowling centers, and distributors,” continued Wilbur. “The immediate revocation of the balls, as well as not allowing bowlers to continue using the Jackal and Jackal Carnage balls that they have, has caused massive disruption to the sport of bowling around the world. We deeply regret the inconvenience and frustration that this issue has caused so many. We appreciate the outpouring of support that we have received, and pledge to continue our efforts to create the world’s best bowling equipment.”

Perhaps it’s a classic case of someone learning to say hello when it’s time to say goodbye, but he was in great spirits and uncharacteristically smiling and cracking jokes when I spoke with him before a Nets game at Barclays Center last month. I asked him if he would be interesting in coaching either local NBA team and he responded enthusiastically: “Absolutely! Please write that!”

The FX mini-series “The People Vs. OJ Simpson” was a top-notch production in every respect, and should win some Emmy Awards this September. In a case of imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, NBC Cable’s Esquire Network recently ran a 12-hour documentary on what is still called “the trial of the century.”

This June, ESPN is planning to run a documentary on Simpson’s life as part

of its “30 For 30" documentary series. It will encompass not just the murder cases of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, but also Simpson's playing career as arguably the greatest running back in college and pro football history.

Gathering Time Tops Folk Radio Charts

The Long Island-based folk-rock harmony trio Gathering Time had both the #1 album (Keepsake) and the most-played song (“Who Knows Where The Time Goes”) on folk radio in March, according to charts compiled from radio playlists submitted to the Folk DJ Listserv (FOLKDJ-L), an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in folk-based music on the radio. More than 140 DJs from throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia submitted playlists in March.

Each song on Keepsake, Gathering Time’s new full-length CD, documents a common experience by focusing in on something tangible. Singer Hillary Foxsong, who conceptualized the album and curated its production, explained the idea behind it: “A silver star, a mom’s guitar, a battle scar, a lover’s letter from long ago. All are physical things imbued with greater meaning by the memories attached and the significance of what they symbolize. Each is a keepsake.”

The collection contains 14 songs, including nine by group members Foxsong, Stuart Markus, and Gerry McKeveny. Also included are songs by Long Island songwriter Martha Trachtenberg and Catskills-based songwriter Stuart Kabak, two covers of 1970s classics, and an interpretation of a traditional Irish/Welsh folk ballad. Contemporary folk/rock duo The Kennedys will be the headliners on Thursday, April 21 at 8:30 pm for the latest edition of The Folk Music Society of Huntington’s monthly Hard Luck Café series at Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington. Last year, Pete and Maura Kennedy marked 20 years as both a married couple and musical duo. During that time, they have released 15 albums, including three in 2015. They’ve spent more than two decades as touring musicians, both on their own and as members of Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra. The Kennedys have graced the stage at New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall, and entertained throngs of people at the Falcon Ridge, Newport, and Philadelphia Folk Festivals with their own songs and covers.

Area talent of all kinds, pay serious heed: There is currently a search on for participants in a major talent show that could become a regularly scheduled event at one of the area’s top showplaces.

These events will headine on The Bellmore Movies’ lavish live stage, and the search is on for all kinds of talent – magicians, comedians, singers, improvisational groups, ventriloquists, acoustic acts, and more.

“We’re looking to do a talent search and show – old school, somewhat like vaudeville,” said area entertainment professional Gary Smith of New York Entertainment Club; he’s well-known in for his long stint at The Brokerage, one of the area’s top venues. “We’d also like to have a keyboard player to fill time between the acts, and be used when needs for the singers, and more. The emcee will be Rick Morgan, an established comic and producer from Long Island ... I see this as a great night out.

Sadly for the critics, the worldwide web, the Internet, the iPhone, Facebook, Twitter, and everything else came along one day, and suddenly everyone became a “critic,” and no one person's opinion (which is really all the critics ever offered in the first place) was any more valid than anyone else's. Rolling Stone, with its all-important lists, is now the laughingstock of the younger generation, a mere ghost of what it once was, forced to place Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber on the cover if it wants to remain in business (I find this turn of the screw to be delightfully ironic). A proper order has been established, similar to when Billboard Magazine started using Soundscan bar code data to create its Top 200 Albums chart – instead of, as in the old days, calling record stores by phone and asking the manager for the 20 or 30 biggest titles, which frequently featured titles that the manager was a fan of, even if they weren't selling that well. The week that they switched to Soundscan, two little known acts zoomed up the chart: Garth Brooks and N.W.A. It seems that many store managers were not fans of country or hip hop, so they had under-reported those sales, or not reported them at all. Soundscan corrected that problem right away, and the world of popular music was never the same.

In similar fashion, social media has corrected the critics' situation; the media may hate Ariana Grande or One Direction, but it all means nothing to fans worldwide who have instant access to each other and couldn't care less about anyone else's opinion, which, in pop culture, is as it should be and should have always been. The 1970s came along, and suddenly favorites of mine such as T.Rex, Ziggy era David Bowie, Iggy & The Stooges, and Wayne County were being slogged by the “critics,” mostly with not-so-veiled slurs of a homophobic nature, which I went into greater detail on in my recent tribute to Bowie in this column. It was then that I came to Ariana realize that Grande critics were a scam, a hoax, an industry device to lull readers into uncertainty about their own instinctive feelings, and to compel readers into spending their money in a manner that the critics saw as correct. Many of us who were young in the 1960s and 1970s bought albums that we listened to once and then shelved forever because we were conned into the purchase by some writer who convinced us that we would be lesser than if we didn't own them.

Concurrently, if we bought any of those T.Rex or New York Dolls records, then we

Sylvia Tancredi: From Italy To NYC

Already a star in Italy, Silvia Tancredi returned to New York City in early April to perform songs from her new album, In Limine.

The LP consists of 11 tracks, including a cover "True Colors" by Cindi Lauper, and "The Cage," song a chosen for the soundtrack of Cam Girl, the movie by Italian director Mirca Viola.
