It’s the evolution – and it’s taken a tight grip on this veteran rock band from Seattle. Sounding sterling while celebrating its 25th anniversary, the grizzled yet still youthful Pearl Jam took over New York City’s Madison Square Garden for a pair of recent performances. The dome-shaped sports area was alive and well within the first few songs of the first night; as the band explained with some concern and humor, they could feel the floors shaking on the stage early on. Eddie Vedder and crew gave the radio junkies in the stands their fill of hits: “Jeremy,” “Porch,” and “Alive” were jammed on and rocked the house. Yet, Pearl Jam also performed some deep cuts and Bsides such as “All Or None,” “Footsteps,” and “Chloe Dancer,” and all were spot on. The second night may have offered fewer songs, but the surprises certainly made up for it: Rick Nielsen and Tom Peterson of Cheap Trick joined Pearl Jam for a fine cover of “Surrender.” “Better Man” brought the crowd to its feet, and the band allowed the audience to sing the majority of the ballad. Even with all these high spots, “Driven To Tears,” was the highlight of the second show as Sting shared the mic with Vedder, both sounding aged but fine, much like the bottles of wine Vedder reportedly brings to his concerts. The two-night scorecard: 67 songs, four encores, and three special guests.

As the British rockers began their sold-out show, lead singer Gavin Rosedale gave his audience a quick smirk before erupting on “Everything Zen.” Giving the band its first commercial success as its debut single in 1995, the song still holds up as if it was new. Note-bending wizard (and Long Island-raised guitarist) Chris Traynor proved why he landed the lead guitarist spot in the rejuvenation of Bush some years back. Rosedale fed off the audience during “The Chemicals Between Us” and “Swallowed,” raising his hands in the air and soaking it all in. Although the lengthy of his notes have shortened, his energy level hasn’t; he circled the floor during “Little Things,” sounding determined. During his performance of “Glycerine,” women of all ages made their way to the front of the general admission area and screamed “We love you, Gavin.” The classic “Comedown” ended the night on the same high-octane level as it began.

Legendary artists tour sporadically, and that iconic group continues to get smaller. Live music fans deserve the opportunity to see a non-stop feel good show that is fun for multi-generations – and they find this with Creedence Clearwater Revisited. The backbone of the group is Stu Cook and Doug “Cosmo” Clifford, who are the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rhythm section (bass and drums respectively) from the legendary group Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). Cook and Clifford started the Revisited project in 1995 when a friend wanted to promote a few concerts. They didn’t realize at the time what a gap their performances would fill in the live music circuit and that they would wind up playing close to 100 shows a year in the United States, Canada and abroad. “We never really had any intention of playing for the public,” said Cook. “We got talked into it, but didn’t know how it would go over ... In the beginning Cosmo and I decided that if we could find the musicians that could capture the sound and recreate what the music was about, we’d do it.” Every song performed is a Creedence classic, and the multi-generational family
“Weren’t even born when the music came out.” Likewise, the release of a double-live CD on Universal’s Hip-O Records label, which features passionate, authoritative versions of 22 classic hits, was the result of public demand. “It was generated by requests of the people who came to the shows,” said Cook. “Over and over they would ask, ‘do you guys have a CD?’” Creedence Clearwater Revisited’s Recollection has proven so popular that in 2008 it was certified platinum by the RIAA. The band’s 2014 lineup includes lead guitarist Kurt Griffey, who has recorded and toured with members of The Eagles, Foreigner, The Moody Blues, Wings, Lynyrd Skynryd, Santana, and Journey; lead singer and guitar player John Tristao (who rose to prominence as lead singer for the band People when their hit “I Love You” bulleted into the Top 10); and versatile Steve Gunner, who plays keyboards, acoustic guitar, percussion, and harmonica. eghan Trainor's new hit single may be called “No,” but everything has been a solid “yes” in her still-fledgling career thus far. The single is the first from the Grammy Award-winning pop superstar’s second full-length album, Thank You, released in May on Epic Records. Yes, “No” shows a different side of the singer, illuminating the expanse and confidence inherent in her powerhouse voice while showing off her songwriting prowess. deft touch here brings the film the perfect note of unbelievable eye-filling action mixed with fantasy whimsy. Which isn't to say this a perfect night at what passes for “cinema” in this day and age. The fantasy world of Azeroth is the setting for a plot that's really just an excuse for all the CRASH! BOOM! POW!, and in many cases, some talented actors aren't given a whole lot to do other than brace for impact. However, Travis Fimmel, who portrays Durotan, an orc chieftain, manages to overcome the pounds of costuming he must wear to deliver a moving performance as a father who is thrwarted in the insane world he's forced to inhabit. Warcraft, for the most part, works well enough – even if you don't know a joystick from Joy Mangano.

Fox, which finally bid farewell to “American Idol,” made sure that everyone knew that they would be the home of Super Bowl LI and the 2016 World Series. In September Fox will launch a new drama, “Pitch,” which imagines what it would be like if Major League Baseball had a female pitcher. The show’s executives are from Philadelphia, so it’s safe to say that the 2014 exploits of the then 13-year-old Mo’ne Davis in the Little League World Series were an inspiration. MLB, which has a long partnership with Fox, sees this show as a great way of expanding its fan base; it's letting the show use San Diego’s Petco Park and

Yet, WWE fans don’t have to worry about Cena going away from pro wrestling the way that both “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have. “I always want to be a part of the WWE,” said Cena at the “upfront.” “It’s my primary affiliation.” Univision sports chairman Juan Carlos Rodriguez is a passionate soccer fan, and it’s no shock that it’s the only sport on the Spanish-speaking network. Univision will be showing the battle for Western Hemisphere soccer superiority in a couple of weeks with the Copa America Centenario. Rodriguez did surprise a lot of folks when he announced that Univision gets more viewers for the Mexican pro soccer federation, Liga MX, than NBC Sports does for The English Premier League. Rodriguez also announced that Univision will sponsor a Soccer World Series, a futbol version of the Little League World Series. his vocal chords. My guess is that Rose, who lives on the South Shore, did not enjoy shlepping to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, and that had to be a factor as well in his decision. The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets breathed a sigh of relief after the NBA Draft Lottery. Neither team has a first-round draft choice because of bad trades. In 2013, the Knicks dealt their top 2016 choice to the Toronto Raptors for the dreadful Andrea Bargnani. That same year, the Nets sent their 2014, 2016, and 2018 first-round picks to the Boston Celtics in an even worse deal for an aging triumvirate of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry.

his summer marks the 11th-year anniversary of The Long Island Comedy Festival, the brainchild of comedy impresario and executive producer (as well as a hilarious standup in his own right) Paul Anthony; it's the yearly comedy event that, in quite literal terms, has taken this region by storm; last year’s edition was the most successful yet. Kai Elle LI’s ‘Dynamo’ Goes Global
Who: Singer, songwriter, and pianist Kai Elle – her fans remember her as Long Island's Kyle Lardner, who several years back released the well-received Sail Among The Stars – has released a new EP, Dynamo, now available at iTunes and Amazon. Released concurrently with the EP was a video for the effort’s first single,“St. Barths,” which now can be viewed at YouTube and other online video streaming services. The EP contains five tracks that Ellie – who also is making a serious mark as a model and yoga instructor – have been working on for some time, including the title track, “St. Barths,” “The Queen,” “It Girl,” and “The Wedding Song (Heartbeat).” Elle has struck gold since heading to California; she's released a single featuring British superstar Robbie Williams (“Carry On”) and scored a scad of modeling assignments and public appearances. The Artist & Her Sound: It’s a total rebirth: Those who got to know Elle from the singer/songwriter-style strains of Sail Among The Stars are in for a bit of a shock. The devastatingly beautiful young singer has become the ultimate anti-hippie, offering anthems of hedonism, the high life, and unabashed self-devotion. “St. Barth’s,” the first single, is not only can’t-shake-it catchy, but is also the first song we’ve heard that merges hip hop-style braggadocio (“My music is off the charts,” she croons) with a blatant love of luxury (“We’re going on yachts ... Goodbye, Holly: I hopped onto The Long Island Railroad and headed into Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, about an hour and then some from my home in Suffolk County. I had to be present for the homage to

It dawned on me that in all my decades of covering and participating in the NYC rock/arts scene that I had never set foot inside the historic landmark that is La Mama. I heard numerous tales of theater, and working with the once-in-a-lifetime personality that is John Vacarro from the lips of Jayne County and Cherry Vanilla. Now, finally, I was present, in the room before the doors opened, to witness the meticulous sound checks, lighting and staging, and a production in its own right. I could only imagine some of the goings-on that took place in this space through the years, and we heard many hilarious and hair-raising accounts from the survivors who got up to speak and share their thoughts and memories. Heartfelt testimonials were delivered by Michael Musto, Elda Stilleto, John Vacarro, Ruby Lynn Reyner, and Holly's archivist Robert Coddington, to name just a few of the downtown “who's who” that were in attendance. Music performances by Chris Tanner and Lance Cruce as well as The Lavender Light Gospel Choir were moving; interspersed were various video collections, performances, and remembrances of Holly, which brought the gathered crowd to tears, laughter, and applause, all the things that Holly lived for. The entire event was streamed worldwide while it happened, and is now preserved for permanent viewing online for those who could not make it. I highly suggest that you make the time and take the time to experience this event in it's entirety; it was a night we'll long remember. Rest in peace, Holly Woodlawn.

Holly Woodlawn, one of the fantastic creatures that turned my life around in the early 1970s. On the train ride into the city, I was still processing the information; my important years, my late teen years, were the birth of glitter / glam years, and Holly was an important part of that for me. Lou Reed and David Bowie were already gone, and now Holly. I had not so long ago helped to get a video of "Boys" onto YouTube; Holly finally was on a “record” of sorts, alongside her lifelong friend Jayne County, with Ginger Coyote, Cherry Holly Vanilla, Constance Woodlawn Cooper, and an array of rock & rollers. Holly always wanted to leave behind a music memento of her time on Earth, and here it was. Now I was walking into La Mama / The Ellen Stewart Theatre on East 4th Street downtown for this gathering of the local tribe. Penny Arcade put this program together with Jeremiah Newton (who I met outside La Mama, and managed to provide a helping hand to) and Steve Zehentner, and she did an outstanding job of keeping a lid on things and making sure that the trains ran on time, so to speak. Once inside, I ran into NYC icons Michael Alago and Tony Zanetta, and in the midst of our chat fest, I was approached by folks who knew me, even though we had never
