The “Rock & Roll Three For All “ concert tour features these three rock legends, all Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductees – and all delivered a show worthy of their lofty perch in the rock pantheon at this stop at the beach. Check Trick opened to a house that was half empty as they began at 6:45 pm; as the crowd filtered in they realized what they were missing. Guitarist Rick Nielson was as irreverent as ever, striking poses and throwing dozens of picks into the audience. At 63, singer Robin Zander can still hit the high notes. All the hits were crammed into their hour, including “Dream Police,” “I Want You To Want Me,” and “The Flame.” Surprisingly, Heart, billed as headliners, took the stage next. Ann and Nancy Wilson were joined by Craig Bartock on guitar, Dan Rothchild on bass, Ben Smith on drums, and Chris Joyner on keyboards, and these queens of rock didn't disappoint. Although Heart released a new album, Beautiful Broken, in July, this was still very much a “greatest hits” show, and a trip down memory lane worth taking. From “Magic Man” to “Alone,” the show was seamless; Cheap Trick joined Heart during the encore for a cover of “Love Hurts.” Ann Wilson and Zander, side by side, proved that time has not touched their voices. Jett, performing despite 90-degree temperatures and 100 percent humidity, defied the climate – and her age – in in a black sequined body suit, black leather jacket, and Doc Martins, too bad ass to care about the heat. The hometown crowd was on its feet for the Long Beach native as she came out swinging, performing all her best-known songs from The Runaways' “Bad Reputation” to her own classics “I Love Rock & Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and more. Laid Back Festival: Gregg Allman & Friends Nikon At Jones Beach Theatre Wantagh
Yes, The Allman Brothers Band is no more, yet the innovation and soul of the original band continues on through its founder, Gregg Allman – who originated his Laid Back Festival, which merges food trucks with music, at this aging shed last year. Based on its success in 2015, Laid Back has turned into a mini-tour featuring a rotating series of co-headliners. Fans who waited hours to hear Allman and his band got a hodgepodge of openers, but they didn't seem to fit nearly as well as last year's support from The Doobie Brothers and Bruce Horsnby. The billed co-star, country singer Jason Isbell, provided a serviceable set in front of a polite yet disinterested half-filled stadium that seemed unfamiliar with his music. An inert America played its usual array of obtuse love ballads; on a side stage, an aging Orleans (two original members, none named John Hall) gamely gave it a go, to little avail; others providing short sets were Devon Allman, Jaimoe's Jasssz Band, and Levon. Thankfully, The Marshall Tucker Band opened the main stage with a surprisingly rousing set that not enough fans got to hear, as the early crowd was still filing in. The only act that played to a full stadium, of course, was Allman and his cracking group, which includes a star in the making in young New York-based guitarist Scott Sharrard, who sings as well as he shreds. Unlike the rote America, Allman continues to move forward as an artist; new arrangements of classics such as “Whipping Post” and “I'm No Angel” kept the chestnuts fresh and vibrant. And, yes – at 68, Allman's voice hasn't changed a bit since the glory years, moving from soulful rasp to yearning howls without a hint of effort – making his set worth the price of admission all by itself. – Bob Smith

Kelsea's Back In LI: It was less that two years ago that young Kelsea Ballerini wowed Long Island with her performance at the inaugural “Girls With Guitars” country concert at Patchogue Theatre – now's she a legitimate national superstar in her own right. The platinum-selling country sweetheart has achieved yet another milestone on her way to prominence, announcing her first-ever headlining concert bookings, aptly titled “The First Time Tour.” The trek will touch down locally on December 2 at Irving Plaza in New York City. “I’ve been blessed to open for so many incredible artists and people I admire,” said Ballerini. “Getting to watch their shows and learn more about our craft has inspired me to grow as an artist ... One of the highlights of touring has Kelsea been meeting fans Ballerini and creating new relationships along the way. And for that reason, I was inspired to put together my first headlining tour. The record features duets with Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, and Alison Krauss. "These songs had a profound impact on me when I was a little girl listening to my Aunt Gracie's kitchen radio in Queens,” said Lauper. “I grew up listening to and admiring Patsy Cline, Patsy Montana, Hank Williams – all the greats from the 'golden age' of country. Should- Be Hits You Can’t Miss
Our cinema summers these days are rife with comic book heroes and over-the-top, colorful animated films – yet, for real film fans, there are other choices to be made. Here are short takes on movies that have been released to little or meager fanfare that are nonetheless well worth seeing. Café Society; Kristen Stewart, Steve Carrell, Jessie Eisenberg; directed by Woody Allen (Amazon Studios / Lionsgate): An 80-year-old Woody Allen proves he's still Woody Allen with this flimsy yet wistfully entertaining comedy set in the golden age of Hollywood. Kristen Stewart finally proves she can do more than stare blankly at buff vampires, and Eisenberg is his usual charming self. It's not in the Top 10, but this movie has been packing them in at smaller theaters such as Bow Tie Theaters' Manhasset location. Starring Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, Jane Horrocks, June Whitfield, Chris Colfer, Kathy Burke, Mo Gaffney, Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness Directed by Mandie Fletcher Fox Searchlight Pictures/ BBC Films There's little question about it: If you're not familiar with the long-running BBC comedy series “Absolutely Fabulous,” you'll be completely lost while trying to make sense of (or even follow) this film. There's no introduction or back story to the characters; the opening credits feature the stars Jennifer Saunders as Edina and Joanna Lumley as Patsy walking onto the screen in full, tasteless fashion regalia, and off it all goes.
FILM Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie
However, interviews with creator and writer Saunders reveal that this was the entire point of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie – this is a film made specifically for its legion of fans in
Entertainment): Kunis and Bell are beyond appealing in a comedy about frustrated mothers that might have been a bit more believable had it not been written by a couple of guys, yet it's still fun. Christina Applegate has a huge future ahead of her as a villain, even in serious films. It's hilarious how the producers try to make Kunis and Bell look dowdy, but even in KMart clothes, they're obviously still femme fatales. Featured player Annie Mumulo is a comedy star in the making. Langella, Missy Pyle; written and directed by Matt Ross (Electric City Entertainment): Also doing boffo biz in the art houses is this family drama that proves that trying to be the best parent possible can seem almost impossible – and it's not always the parents' faults. Great performances by Mortenson, who has never before shown such range, and stage and screen veteran Langella. Our Little Sister; Haruka Ayase, Kaho, Masami Nagasawa; directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda; Japanese, subtitled (Sony Pictures Classics): Its trailer is the most heartwarming we can ever remember, and it wasn't false advertising: It's a small little story about a half-sister being gradually brought into a family that will resonate with anyone who embraces love. This will be remembered at Academy Awards time; it’s simply beautiful.
stupidity and absurdity around her like a sponge until she explodes in comic frustration. Lumley, quite possibly the most beautiful 70-year-old on the planet, remains ageless as Patsy, Eddie's partner in excess. Most of the TV cast reassembles here; there’s a nice though short turn by Jane Horrocks as ditzy personal assistant Bubble. The flimsy plot finds the pair of wannabe big shots, already on the dole when their funds dry up, on the run after accidentally pushing supermodel Kate Moss off a balcony into the ocean. There's a church scene featuring a cross-dressing Patsy marrying an octogenarian lady billionaire that ranks among the funniest moments we've seen in any movie this year. How popular is “Ab Fab” in the UK? More than 50 stars turn up here in cameo appearances; if you know that going in, you'll have a grand time picking out them all. It's not for everybody, but there are enough laughs in the over-the-top proceedings to make it worth your while. Party on, Eddie and Patsy.

The movie, though paced quite differently than the series (jokes and scenes whiz past in such rapid succession that it can become dizzying rather than funny), is a continuation of the television storyline. “Ab Fab” isn't and never was great art – but at times ranked among the funniest sitcoms of its era. Thankfully, there are enough laughs here to justify a look, but only if you are intimate with the series going in. notion that with two months to go the Yankees had a realistic shot at qualifying for postseason play. The longstanding Yankees corporate culture was that “rebuilding” was a dirty word used by losing franchises who basically were trying to shed payroll. Manager Joe Girardi may have said it best at a press conference before the kickoff of the annual Subway Series: “The Yankees are in the world championship business. Just making it into the playoffs isn’t good enough.” Clearly, Cashman was tired of putting patches on a leaky ship to keep it afloat; he’s likely hoping the prospects his team received for Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, Ivan Nova, and Carlos Beltran will bear fruit in the coming years. Yankees executives have to hope that their fans will exercise patience – a virtue not generally associated with New York sports fans. General managers have to always balance what’s best in the short and long runs for their teams, but field managers are under the gun to win with the rosters that they're given.

LIYBT Crowns Champs: Allison Burfeindt and Mike Ruben were crowned champions at the July 31 LIYBT event at Coram Country Lanes. This summer fun event drew 40 bowlers, who competed for more than $500 in scholarship awards. The event was rolled on the challenging 2016 USBC Women's Pattern. USTA executive director Gordon Smith said that the only time the Ashe roof will be used is if it’s raining, and not on hot and humid days: “No. Battling the elements are a key part of the tournament,” Smith said. At a press event to unveil the roof earlier this month, the USTA showed a nice touch of classic rock humor by blasting The Doors’ “Riders On The Storm” to show its closing, and U2's “It’s A Beautiful Day” for its opening.

This is the last year to enjoy a piece of history. Louis Armstrong Stadium, built by The Singer Corporation for the 1964 World’s Fair, will be demolished as soon as the U.S. Open is completed. A new stadium will take its place in 2018 at an approximate cost of $150 million. Mike Piazza made terrific speeches for both his Baseball Hall of Fame induction and Mets uniform retirement ceremonies.

Comedy Central's "100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time," will be interviewed, and will sign copies of his memoir in the Theatre lobby following his book discussion. As this book's title suggests, Macdonald tells the story of his life – more or less – from his origins on a farm in the-back-of-beyond Canada, to an epically disastrous appearance on “Star Search,” to his account of auditioning for Lorne Michaels and his memorable run as the anchor of "Weekend Update" on “SNL” … until he was fired because a corporate executive didn't think he was funny. The “SNL” firing hasn't done much to slow Macdonald's comedy ascent; the standup comic, writer, producer, and actor followed five season on the legendary late-night show to writer for “Roseanne” and star in his own network comedy, “The Norm Show.” Most recently, he served as a judge on the 2015 season of “Last Comic Standing.” He has appeared in numerous movies, television shows, and has done voiceovers in many animated features and TV shows. And if you blinked, you might have missed Macdonald in the guise of Col. Harlan Sanders in the funny yet controversial recent series of TV commercials for Kentucky Fried Chicken. We're Goofy, Norm Too: We don't Macdonald know how we messed up – we must have been too busy laughing at “The Gagootz Show” on YouTube – but the correct name for its star is Benny Rizzuti. he original lineup of Culture Club has reformed – and the influental 1980s pop music masters are making a stop on their current U.S. tour on Tuesday, August 30 at 8 pm at The NYCB Theatre At Westbury. Culture Club was one of the biggest pop bands of the 1980s, racking up a string of Top 20 singles in the US at the apex of the “New Wave” movement. makeup created an image that was at the time completely unique on the pop scene. George dressed in gaudy dresses and wore heavy makeup, creating a disarmingly androgynous appearance that created a sensation on early MTV. George also had a biting wit and frequently came up with cutting quips that won Culture Club heavy media exposure in America and Britain. Culture Club had sharper pop sense than their peers and they consequently had a broader appeal. However, their
time in the spotlight was brief. Not only could they not withstand the changing fashions of MTV, but the group was fraught with personal tensions, including Boy George's drug addiction. By 1986, the group had broken up, leaving behind several singles that rank as classics of the new wave era. Since that period, the group has reformed several times – but this tour is notable for the reformation of the classic lineup: Mikey Cray, Roy Hay, Boy George, and Jon Moss have delivered shows both here in America and in England that have longtime fans not only enthralled, but shocked – Culture Club might even be better than it

was during its heyday. Boy George’s trevails with drug addiction and illness made headlines over the years, but now he’s healthy and performing the amazing string of hits that few bands of any genre can match in terms of popularity: The string of smashes “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me,” “Church Of The Poisoned Mind,” “Karma Chameleon,” “Move Away,” “It’s A Mircale,” “I”ll Tumble 4 Ya,” “Miss Me Blind,” and “Time (Clock Of The Heart)” rank alongside pop’s most legendary artists as one of the quickest ascents to the top of the charts in the history of recorded music.

Who: They’ve been the talk of the music industry for months: Meet The Janes, a pop/R&B girl group based in New York, featuring members from Long Island and Queens – Jaime, Kelly, Llyra, Tayla, and Bella – merges dance rhthyms, sex appeal, and pop craftsmanshop.
