New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone won 100 games as a rookie manager in 2018, but many “Bronx Bombers” fans likely consider his first year a flop because he had the misfortune of being in the same division as The Boston Red Sox, who won

Jorda Directed by Steven Caple Jr. Written by Sylvester Stallone Opens November 22 Here come some of the biggest films of the holiday season, and it’s a mixed bag: Bohemian Rhapsody does a great job of making its actors look like the real Queen
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindewald; Bohemian Rhapsody (Inset) (particularly in concert scenes), yet it all adds up to an unsatisfying and shockingly dull biopic ... Director David Yates also worked on the Harry Potter series, so this second installment of the Fantastic Beasts series should be every big as satisfying ... There will be a lot of blockbusters, but we have no doubt that Creed II will be among the biggest hits this year. It’s got all the elements: Rocky’s back with his young champion and the son of his friend; the kid
is going to box Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lungren), who remains one of Rocky’s most intense rivals; and the aging Rocky Balboa continues to churn out life advice like no one else can. Sure, it’s a formula, but the Rocky series’ blend of humanity, root-for-the-underdog action, pathos, and fantastic fight sequences is a hearty stew that never gets old no matter how many times you reheat it. Ring the bell so fans can line up at the theater.

A ‘Beer’ For Everyone – Even The Kids: Reed's Inc., makers of all-natural Reed's Ginger Beer and Virgil's Handcrafted Sodas, has unveiled a new package design for its flagship line of ginger beers. The brand refresh for Reed's, unveiled last month at the Fall 2018 Sidoti Investor Conference, follows in the footsteps of the company's overhaul of its Virgil's soda line earlier this year. The new look for Reed's will be available nationwide in over 30,000 retail locations in early 2019. The new design puts the Reed's name front and center, more clearly highlighting the levels of ginger intensity in each of the three varieties (Original, Extra and Strongest), while maintaining the bold, islandinspired theme that helped establish the brand. Also new for Reed's will be the addition of 12ounced cans that will facilitate the brand's expansion into new channels of distribution, including on-premise, club, drug and convenience stores. And following the successful launch of its new Virgil's Zero Sugar line, Reed's is adding Zero Sugar Ginger Beer versions, utilizing the same all-natural sweetener blend and avoiding the artificial sweeteners found in most diet ginger beers. Rhythm Tracking With Jimi LaLumia
Drake Versus The Beatles: There's much bragging about Drake beating The Beatles in terms of how many songs he has on the charts in a given period of time, which eclipses “The Fab Four's” previous record. I understand the industry’s attempt to drum up hype and excitement over current artists and releases, but the info is deceitful and the purpose is obvious: It's an effort to present the corpse that is the current music business as a living, breathing entity. The Beatles tallies are based on a time when people opened their wallets, purchased products like 45 RPM singles, full albums, magazines, and other merch; comparisons to purchasing products versus streaming a tune off a site is a case of apples versus acorns – there is no comparison. Chart statistics that have emerged in the streaming era should be confined to the streaming era and not compared to purchased, brought-home product; it's akin to comparing the pyramids in Egypt to a Home Depot shed in your backyard. Give it up, music industry; nobody's buying ... literally. The AMAs: The American Music Awards ran, as it does every year, on ABC TV, with Tracee Ellis Ross returning as hostess. As always, she
did an outstanding job – but the ratings, as it turned out, were not so outstanding when compared to the AMAs in years gone by. People neglect to mention that in years past,
people tuned in to see Guns ‘N Roses and Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, Elton John and The Eagles, David Bowie and Tracee's mom, Diana Ross. The devolution of the pop music scene has led to a parade of “American Idol”-looking young people performing their songs with high school glee club enthusiasm, then fading back into the woodwork
Drake
from which they emerged. Perhaps if the producers of the AMAs had talked Lady Gaga into making an appearance to tie in with A Star Is Born, things would have turned out differently. Taylor Swift did appear – the one real highlight of the program – but that was three hours in, at the very end of the broadcast. This isn’t a knock at young performers; they grew up in an “American Idol” world, and that is how they’ve been taught that pop music is supposed to work. In the true definition of the last six decades of pop music culture, that is not how it works, but here we are. Get ‘Under’: Remember when there used to be "The Underground"? Submerged beneath all those fab pop stars were these creatures, looking like Satan gave them the weekend off to visit our safe and sanitary mainstream world. By 1970, I had become one of those creatures, so I was pleased to get a copy of a fab new book, The Downtown Pop Underground, which details how this scene, solidly based in New York City in the 1960s, went on to infect and contaminate the docile bubble gum pop world and still carries weight in the pop culture that surrounds us daily. Written by the highly acclaimed Kembrew McLeod, ths book will be a perfect holiday gift for your favorite weirdo (or weirdo wannabe) ... or maybe that's you!

Honey River: Peace, Love & New Sounds
With an upcoming album release on the way, country trio Honey River is already spreading “Peace, Love” – its new single – to listeners nationwide. Honey River, still a new act, was formed in 2017 by area artist Joey Sykes, inspired by his many years of Nashville writing trips, and a love for The Eagles, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, and more. Recent additions Jay Mags and Chris Vincent add their vocal and guitar talents to complete the Honey River sound. Sykes has a catalog of new songs in addition to “Peace, Love,” including “Nobody Like Me”, “I Miss America,” and more that are to be part of their debut album. “The idea of Honey River from day one was to have three guys who can all sing, write, play different instruments, and who will share lead vocals during the set,” said Sykes. “It’s kind of a modern-day Eagles/Tom Petty/CSNY fusion. There will also be plenty of harmony during the verses. I love lyrics, harmonies, melodies, and cool stringed instruments.” Hear “Peace, Love” via Spotify or listen at Google Play; learn more at HoneyRiverMusic.com or find them on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter by using “HoneyRiverMusic” as the tag.

Brooke Moriber: Finally, A Full-Length
Area singer/ songwriter Brooke Moriber has announced her debut album, Cry Like A Girl, now available for pre-order from Bandtwango. The album was recorded in Nashville with producer Fred Mollin (Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Shawn Colvin) and was mixed by Grammy winner Chris Lord-Alge (Carrie Underwood, Of Mice And Men, Bruce Springsteen). “I named the album after one of the lead tracks because that particular song has such a clear message that embodies the collection as a whole,” said Moriber, a Broadway veteran. “It’s a statement about self-discovery and the strength that comes with embracing your emotions and allowing yourself to heal and grow. Human beings are resilient and I believe music can be the best reminder of that.” For the album: BandTwango.com; find Moriber on social media and at brookemoriber.com.

BITS & PIECES
Morgan James: Her Take On The 'White Album' Throughout her career, Morgan James has taken on songs to give them her unique perspective and make them her own. She rocked the stage as Christ in an all-femaleversion of Jesus Christ Superstar, took on a acoustic cover of D'Angelo's Black Messiah, and covered Joni Mitchell's Blue album. James has set her sights on one of the world's most iconic records: The Beatles' White Album; her White Album is now in stores. "We wanted to pay homage to this incredible double album by stepping into their shoes, and diving deep," James said of the White Album project. "I think it's a side of me that fans haven't seen before, which is exciting." Fans can now see James on her tour across Europe, Canada, and the U.S.
Lauren Morrow: From 'Whiskey' To Solo
Photos courtesy respective labels and artists; Morgan Jamesby Akshay Bhoan
Lauren Morrow has released an EP which marks her debut as a solo artist after over a decade as the centerpiece of popular Americana band The Whiskey Gentry. The self-titled four-song EP is filled with stories; some real, some fiction, all universal yet personal. Founded on a collaborative mentality, Morrow and her husband, guitarist, and co-producer Jason, recruited an all-star lineup of Nashville’s most notable players for the new project. The album is available at iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play.
Kelly Moran: From LI To ‘Ultraviolet”
Another Long Island native has broken big on a national level: Kelly Moran has released a new single, “In Parallel,” from her debut album, Ultraviolet. The song, accompanied by a visual inspired by her upcoming live solo shows, is a taste of the psychedelia on display throughout the album, that touches on an array of influences from classical composition and black metal, prepared piano and synthed-out electronic, jazz and minimalism. The first track, “Helix,” has garnered widespread acclaim. Moran is a composer and pianist originally from Long Island; her 2017 LP, Bloodroot, received glowing reviews and was included on year-end lists across the classical, experimental, avant-garde, and metal genres. She is also a frequent collaborator of Oneohtrix Point Never, playing in his MYRIAD ensemble, while also having previously composed alongside fellow pianist and longterm John Cage collaborator Margaret Leng-Tan (confirming Moran’s direct connection to the New York scene), The Manhattan Choral Ensemble, and the esteemed percussion quartet Yarn/Wire. See Moran perform in Brooklyn on November 8 at Future Space.

A few years later, Orr met Ric Ocasek, and by 1976 their quest for the perfect blend of songs, bandmates, and musical landscape finally materialized as The Cars. They would go on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide, resulting in 15 hit singles.
