by Rich Branciforte This Summer has been exceptionally hot, and the desire to hit the road has been greater than ever. For nearly forty years, we have retreated to a vacation paradise only 2 hours from Long Island, The area is Lambertville, N.J. and New Hope, Pa, the twin cities of the Bucks County region. Lambertville at one time was the poor relative to New Hope but no more. Both are filled with dozens of restaurants, and hundreds of shops, art galleries, antique shops, a super bookstore and incredible sights. For lunch or dinner, don’t miss out on an opportunity to dine at The Lambertville Station. The food is excellent, their burger is a real star as is just about everything on the menu. They are also located right on the Delaware River, and the views are fantastic. Walk over the pedestrian bridge that connects Lambertville and New Hope and you’re in Pennsylvania. Be prepared to be overwhelmed. The streets are filled with visitors and locals alike, in one of the most picturesque villages you’ll come acrossScoresanywhere.ofshops line the main street, as well as the Bucks County Playhouse and historic inns, like the Logan Inn. Moving slightly west you’ll come to Peddlar’s Village in Lahaska, a short ten minute ride from New Hope. Here you’ll be overwhelmed by the beauty of this small, self contained village, which is filled with unique shops, beautiful gardens, and never ending events like their blueberry festival, scarecrow competition, gingerbread house exhibit. You can spend a special night at the Inn with beautiful rooms or dine at the Cock ‘n Bull Restaurant. Plenty to do with the kids, they have a separate section with plenty of kid-friendly attractions and special events. Every now and then you discover a hidden gem, and such is the case with our discovery of the Plumsteadville Inn in Plumsteadville, Pa. Plumsteadville you say? Believe me, this is a real treasure we discovered last September. It’s a 1751 inn, one of the oldest in the state, but it is a really pretty place. More important to us food hounds, it has an unbelievable Sunday Buffet Brunch for only $25. Believe me, it is over the top with plenty of locally sourced fresh ingredients. The selection is endless. It is everything I want. Eggs Benedict, bacon, sausages, home fries, prime rib that is absolutely delicious, roast pork loin, turkey, ham, an endless array of seafood including several kinds of shrimp. On our recent trip they had a pork belly that was unbelievable. And the dessert area is a feast for the eyes and senses with all kinds of cakes, pies, dips, danish and much more. All for $25! We decided to stay at the Inn this trip, a delightful stay in a historic room, with very reasonable prices. On Saturday night we dined there also and the selection was fantastic. The jagerschnitzel was determined to be as good as anything we had in Austria. The prime rib sandwich was filled with super tender meat, the chicken sandwich was a delight. (Okay, we did go overboard ordering, had to bring some back to the room). The amazing thing is that this great find is owned by Matt George, a young restaurateur who worked here for 22 years since he was fourteen, and just bought the place last year. While we were there we witnessed a wedding party and a christening party, and they both looked exceptional. Matt has made sure that every aspect of the operation is hands on, he even carried our suitcases to our third floor room. What is also exceptional is the service at the Plumsteadville Inn. We were originally only intending to go there for the Sunday brunch, but when we called to make reservations, the hostess, Mary, with her enthusiasm easily talked us into staying there. This carries over to everyone we met, from the front desk to the waiters and waitresses. Everyone enjoys working there, an example no doubt set by Matt. Don’t miss out on a trip to Bucks County it’s super fun. The Plumsteadville Inn is located at 5902 East Rd Pipersville, Pa, only 20 minutes from New Hope and 10 minutes from Doylestown. Just riding through the countryside to get there is an adventure in Reservationsitself. for the hotel or restaurant can be made at 215-840-0923. Tell them Good Times sent you. And prepare to be very full.

This year the Academy Award-winning masterpiece, The Godfather, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Considered by many to be one of the greatest films of all time, the movie follows the saga of the Corleone crime family led by Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), then later his son Michael (Al Pacino). Gangster films were no longer a popular genre when Paramount optioned Mario Puzo’s novel about an aging head of a crime family and the son reluctant to join the family business, but Francis Ford Coppola’s faithful and emotionally resonant film version was a box office blockbuster as well as one of the most critically acclaimed American films of all time, with many of the finest actors of the modern era playing their first starmaking roles. It will be screened at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, Tuesday, August 30th at 7:00 PM $12 Members | $15 Public. Cinema Arts Centre is located at 423 Park Ave., Huntington.

July 24 marked a special day at AMF Babylon Lanes as Bill Verni’s First Pair Shootout sport shot tournament finally became reality. Bill asked the LIGBT to run a “drop your low game” event and added $500 to the prize fund, which guaranteed a $1,500 top prize. Robert Aiello led the 49 & under qualifying with an 837, and won the $1,500 top prize by defeating Max Thomas in the final shootout 250237. Finishing in third was Paul Gonzalez; rounding out the top four was Joe Ferraiolo. Scoring on the Broadway pattern was moderate, as it took a 723 to cash in the senior division and 695 in the 49 & under group. The First Pair Shootout drew a crowd of 83 entries (seven short of a sellout) and generated a $5,650 prize fund. The side action paid $4,790, bringing the day’s total to $10,440. Maniram Basdeo and Glenn DeGennaro both won Storm bowling balls in raffles.
SNY did an excellent job honoring Keith Hernandez on having his uniform number retired by the Mets last month. Their documentary, “He’s Keith Hernandez,” was a brilliant retrospective of his career, including his iconic 1992 guest star turn on “Seinfeld.” A week after the retirement ceremony, SNY broadcast “KE17H,” which gave viewers a cinema-verite look at what Hernandez’s big day, this past July 9th, was like.

The Mets watched a 10.5 game lead over the Atlanta Braves on June 1st shrink by 8 games by the time the 2022 All-Star Game was played last month, but it was more a case of the Braves winning 14 games in a row during that time, as opposed to a Mets collapse. In fact, the Mets were able to take 2 of 3 games they played in Atlanta the week before the All-Star Game.Ifthis were 2021, when the Mets were managed by Luis Rojas, the likelihood is the Braves would have swept the Mets, and their descent out of the playoff race would have begun. The team’s current manager, veteran Buck Showalter, projects confidence and calm to players, the media, and fans. Whereas Luis Rojas appeared to be afraid to confront players who would embarrass the organization (think of Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil when they engaged in that rat vs. raccoon nonsense to cover up their melee in the runway behind the dugout), Showalter made it his business to have a chat with starting pitcher Chris Bassitt after he told reporters he would not report it to management if he tested positive for COVID-19.
I was saddened to learn of the passing of longtime Mets broadcaster Juan Alicea at age 85. Alicea was a Mets executive, as well as a radio voice on their Spanish outlets, for over 50 years. He was always gracious and was willing to teach this columnist some Spanish baseballFormerphrases.Yankees
PURSUIT OF PERFECTION: Here are some perfect 300 scores logged at area bowling centers during league competition this summer: July 21 – Frank Atanasio and Karl Krage (Bowlero Commack); July 20 – Ted Peck (East Islip Lanes); July 18 – Frank Cafaro (AMF Babylon Lanes). Hats off to these keglers who rolled 299 games: Sam Farber (Herrill Lanes, July 20); Jeremy Milito, who did it twice on successive nights (July 18 at AMF Babylon lanes and July 19 at South Levittown Lanes); and Corey Palmer (July 19, South Levittown Lanes). THE LIGBT ROLLS ON: The annual Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIBGT) rolls on with a serious of tournament events featuring both house and sports shots; log on to ligbtour.com to learn how to get involved.
Mike Westhoff has long been regarded as one of the best special teams coaches in NFL history. He is best known for his decade (2001-2011) with the New York Jets and for his analytical work on Jets pre and postgame shows on SNY. Westhoff has just penned his autobiography, “Figure It Out” (Mascot Books). As Jets fans have come to expect, Westhoff is knowledgeable and gruff. He holds little back as he rightfully tees off on the incompetence of former Gang Green general managers, Terry Bradway and Mike Tannenbaum. He feels the lack of a quality punter was a key reason Jets always fell short of a Super Bowl, even when they had legitimate talent, He proceeds to tear into both Steve Weatherford and Tom Tupa. He generally has pleasant things to say about the three Jets head coaches under which he served: Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini, and Rex Ryan, but he also had peeves with all of them. Edwards exhibited poor game clock management. Mangini came off as a Bill Belichick wannabe which wasn’t his real personality. Rex Ryan needlessly motivated opposing teams with his trash talk about how the Jets were going to kick their ass.
By Lloyd Carroll of the professional NFL signal caller in the new book, “Rise of the Black Quarterback” (Andscape Books). Reid examines the careers of such notables as James Harris, Joe Gilliam, Warren Moon, Steve McNair, Doug Williams, and Colin Kaepernick, but for some reason overlooks the first QB of color in New York Jets history, Geno Smith. The highlight of the book is his conversations with the first Black quarterback in the NFL, Marlin Briscoe, who sadly died as this book was being published.
“Figure It Out” is a solid read for any NFL fan who loves Xs and Os and behindthe-scenes corporate culture of the league. Jets head coach Robert Saleh doubled the team’s win total in 2021 over the 2020 season as his team won a grand total of 4 games. He will be hard-pressed to double that total to 8 wins as he is playing in the same division as the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots.
Gang Green’s success hinges with the health and talent of sophomore QB Zach Wilson who became a star of tabloids when his ex-girlfriend claimed he had bedded his mom’s best friend. You can be sure he will be hearing plenty of the Fountains of Wayne’s “Stacy’s Mom” and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” over the speakers of visiting stadiums this year.
If you are looking for an informative sports show which never talks down to its audience, check out the “Sports with Rich” on the Parrot TV Tuesdays, 10 PM to midnight. Rich Mancuso is a veteran sportswriter who used to do pro wrestling updates with Jody McDonald on WFAN, while his co-host, Robert Rizzo (“Riz” Rizzo) is a Glen Cove native who should be a rising media star. I was honored to be a guest on their show last month.

Westhoff’s biggest regret is how no NFL team saw him as a head coach.

Ticket
Kreischer promises that his sixth special will be his funniest one yet. “I’ve been working on this material longer than most specials, considering that I was also working throughout the pandemic when other comics weren’t working,” Kreischer says. “I’ve been sitting on this material for a lot longer, so I feel like I’ve had time to let it marinate, mature, and blossom.”

Bert Kreischer’s comedic gifts have conquered a spectrum of modern media: live performances at his sell-out festivals and are nas, large performing arts ven ues and theaters, a range of TV modes (starring, hosting, and act ing), podcasts, books, comedy albums and, soon, cinema. He’s done it by simply trusting his own gut instincts to guide his booming career and humor that hits home with millions of fans. His latest bumper crop of hilarity will be taped for a new Netflix special at two shows on November 18 at Omaha, Nebraska’s elegant landmark Orpheum Theatre. ALL STAR BAND CANNONBALLHONORS
SOMETHING ELSE! is the only Blue Note album by Cannonball Adderley recorded and released in 1958 and became an iconic masterpiece presenting funky, soulful and bluesy Jazz which was the hallmark of the time.
ETHAN PHILION MARKS MINGUS CENTENNIAL On “Prayer for Passive Resistance” and “Re member Rockefeller at Attica,” alto saxophonist Rajiv Halim brings his raw and virtuosic best as a featured soloist, while on “Self-Portrait in Three Colors” it is trumpeter Russ Johnson weighing in with a distinctly emotive improvisation. The arrangements break down into three ba sic categories: “Pithecanthropus Erectus,” “Once Upon a Time” and “Haitian Fight Song” are the most faithful to the original recordings but or chestrated for 10-piece group; “Meditations,” “Better Git It In Your Soul” and “Prayer for A Passive Resistance” are essentially composites, with de tails drawn from a number of Mingus’ recorded versions; and “Self-Portrait” and “Rockefeller” contain new material by Philion himself. Philion contends that Mingus’ music, as revered as it is, remains under performed in our time (with the clear exception of the Mingus Institute bands run by Sue Mingus). With Meditations on Mingus, Philion not only helps to redress that, he also taps into the sense of risk and uncertainty at the heart of the Mingus canon, a spirit heard on recent archival Mingus releases such as At Bremen 1964 & 1975 and Music Written for Monterey 1965 (both central to Philion’s listening diet.) “Mingus’ groups are at their most compelling when they’re well-rehearsed and also not entirely certain about what is about to happen, or if what is supposed to happen will work. The feeling of spontaneity and excitement in those Mingus recordings is what I hope my group achieves when perform these

SOMETHING ELSE!, will launch at Birdland on Sep 6 – 10th with two sets a night at Birdland Jazz Club & Bird land Theater, 315 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036. The shows will feature Vincent Herring, alto sax, James Carter, tenor sax, Jeremy Pelt, trumpet, Russell Malone, guitar, Dave Kikoski, piano, Essiet Essiet, bass and Johnathan Blke, drums.
Throughout his career, Cliff Korman has always loved and been inspired by Brazilian music and modern jazz. At the same time, the pianist has consistently resisted the temptation to play in a predictable fashion, instead stretching out and coming up with fresh interpretations. Brasilified features Korman, along with bassist Augusto Mattoso and drummer Ra fael Barata, really digging into a set of rich compositions in surprising ways. The program begins with a lengthy exploration of clarinetist Paulo Moura’s “Guadeloupe.” From its atmospheric beginning to the intuitive interplay by the musicians, this intriguing performance is full of passion and adventure. Fol lowing is a soothing melody by Milton Nascimento (“Viola Violar”) that features Korman’s soulful piano playing over the infectious groove. Altoist Paulo Levi guests on the next two numbers. “Speak No Evil” is taken for quite a ride with Levi and Korman constantly playing off of each other. “As Rosas Não Falam” is a contrast, a moody and melancholy ballad which devel ops into a jazz waltz, beautifully performed by the quartet. His original “Brasili fied” is the most extroverted performance of the session, a joyful romp that is driven by drummer Rafael Barata.
MIA RODRIGUEZ RETURNS
SARAH BETHE NELSON MENTAL PICTURE
Tess Parks Photo by Ki Price
MAYA LUCIA UPCOMING EP Garage-Pop singer-songwriter MAYA LUCIA is the queen of hearts. Spending the last 5 years bouncing between the Pacific and the Atlantic, the Minneapolis native pulls from coastal DIY sounds. Her elastic vocal styling and angst-ridden lyrics effortlessly float between punk, pop, and surf-rock. Linking with current bandmates Samuel Stroup (drums) and James Duncan (bass) while living in Boston, LUCIA has established herself through punchy live shows and a magnetic stage presence.
TESS PARKS’ THOSE WHO WERE SEEN DANCING Toronto-born, London-based artist Tess Parks returns with her new album ‘And Those Who Were Seen Dancing’ on Fuzz Club Records Alongside the new album, Parks has also announced a UK/ EU tour and festival dates in support. Following years of international touring and a lengthy list of critically-acclaimed collaborations with Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe, the new album will be Parks’ first fulllength solo offering since her 2013 debut album, ‘Blood Hot’, was released. Trailing the highlypraised singles ‘Happy Birthday Forever’, ‘Brexit at Tiffany’s’ and ‘Do You Pray?’, ‘And Those Who Were Seen Dancing’ is available to stream/ purchase at: tessparks.lnk.to/dancing Recorded over two years between 2019 and 2021 but with songs, lyrics and ideas dating back over a decade in some form, ‘And Those Who Were Seen Dancing’ is an album full of such moments, people and places. The album is out now on digital/ CD and the vinyl was released June 24th.
The vibes flit between tracks like opener “Five Lovin’ Days” and the later “Night Birds,” whose bare-bones gated, archaic stripped-down electroacoustic production prefigures a post-apocalyptic cosmic country akin to Emmylou Harris strumming in a bomb shelter.

MAYA’s EP miss girl world arrived July 22nd.
HOLLY HUMBERSTONE HEADLINING Currently in the midst of an unparalleled breakout moment, Holly Humberstone announced brand new headlining US tour dates for Fall 2022. Kicking off in New York City on November 1st at Webster Hall, the budding star will perform her biggest North American headlining concerts to-date in Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. A testament to Humberstone’s dazzling ascent, the shows will cap off an already-monstrous year that’s seen her win the famed BRIT Rising Star Award, stun audiences across the US on tour with girl in red, make her electrifying debut at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, release her acclaimed new single “Sleep Tight,” and perform as a special guest on one of 2022’s most anticipated tours supporting Olivia Rodrigo this spring.
WOMEN WHO ROCK
16 • Good Times Magazine - August 16 - September 19, 2022
Pop phenom Mia Rodriguez returns with new single “Super Glue,” available everywhere via City Pop and Atlantic Records. The hauntingly beautiful melody is the perfect soundtrack for Mia’s depiction of the push and pull of falling in love, and the difficulties of letting somebody love you. “Super Glue” marks the latest in a series of international hit singles from the songstress, following this spring’s release of “Shut Up.” With the world currently on fire, ‘Shut Up’ is an instantaneous earworm that at the very least provides a blast of color to any gray day.”
Bay Area singer-songwriter Sarah Bethe Nelson’s multiple albums of balladry and pop chart an emotional wave of the multifarious and sometimes tumultuous changes of the area’s landscape. Her latest is no exception. Enter Mental Picture, a collection of aftershock spectral tunes ghosting in the aura of the recent age spinning out from the contradictions of Nelson’s steely reserve and melancholy fragility. If past efforts highlighted a certain zeal for the times, Mental Picture, while no less resolute in its approbation of the charms of this particular wasteland, definitely adds the haunt of eyes that have seen a grimness and dared to wink back at it. Think later Townes Van Zandt selfdeprecation jolted through the afterglow of Stoned And Dethroned horizon-watching.
Singer/songwriter Vonda Shepard released her single/video “Shine Your Light” July 29., from her upcoming 13th studio album Red Light, Green Light due out September 23. Vonda spent the last couple of years writing and recording Red Light, Green Light, a stunning blend of songs produced by her husband Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Crowded House, Fleetwood Mac). “The album was written and recorded during the height of the pandemic,” Vonda reveals. “It took a massive amount of discipline to go through this process, but the isolation actually lent itself to going deep into the writing.”
There’s a staggering beauty and profundity to the everyday ebb and flow of life, and Long Island-based alt-rockers Last Charge of the Light Horse capture the si multaneous complexity and simplicity on their new single “Torricelli’s Ocean” from their new album Octet. Named for Torricelli’s quote “we live at the bottom of an ocean of air” — with respect to a theorem in fluid dynam ics having to do with the velocity of liquid — the song be gins with a driving rhythm that settles into a cascade; from there, the overall mood of the song is a sunny shimmer, like light skittering across water, rounded out by wailing guitar and full, honeyed harmonies. It’s contemplative and reflectively celebratory at the same time: As the lyrics divulge, this album, Octet, was written with the pandemic as an immediate backdrop. In 2020, song writer Jean-Paul Vest and his family were not only in the midst of the global health crisis, like the rest of us — but also moving house after 20 years in the same place. Not typically a prolific songwriter, Vest experienced the eight songs on Octet flowing to him in a wild deluge over a period of a mere four days. “Broadly, the songs are about the ebb and flow of human connection and isolation,” he says. “But the view is from a close perspective, focusing in on the moments when you’re lying awake with your wor ries at night, or laughing at a table with dear friends who you’ve sorely missed, or navigating the pitfalls of attempt ing to provide tech support via telephone to an elderly rel ative two time zones away.

LAST CHARGE OF THE LIGHT HORSE
BROOKLYN ROCK DUO POWER POSE United by their friendship and shared sense of purpose, Jacqueline Bodley (guitar/vocals) and Kelly Rudman (drums) formed Power Pose in 2017. After overcoming several personal obstacles and the pandemic further de laying their creative process, the duo is now arriving on the scene with a fierce seven track LP. With evocative lyricism and raw fervor, the songs shed light on the ex perience of womanhood and the struggle to reclaim one’s agency, which feels particularly timely today. The need for feminist voices to speak up has taken on a new urgency, and Power Pose is here to be heard. Power Pose’s debut album, I’m Looking, is a moment of unification, celebration and declaration of autonomy in the face of grief, loss and despair as an uncertain future lies ahead in America. The full-length album celebrates carefree joy and shameless desire during a time that con tinually makes a hopeful, revitalized spirit difficult to attain

Welcome back to another riveting install ment of TechnoBeat! I know you all have been waiting anxiously so let’s dive into it. Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell decided to take a break from touring in 2018 after more than 10 years of doing so. He made his anticipated de but return at Ultra Music Festival in March of 2022 and he’s not stopping there. Since then, he has been playing various festivals and is continuing his tour through the world. Lucky for us, he will be stopping by the new UBS arena on Long Island for his only east coast stop. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, Hardwell rose to superstar level with numerous hits such as “Spaceman”, “Apollo”, and “How We Do”. This is an opportunity not to be missed after all these years off. He will be playing at the UBS Arena on September 17 so grab tickets while they’re still available. In addition to Hardwell, there are plenty of other amazing acts coming through the NYC area in August and early September. You’ll want to make sure you catch Getter at Web ster Hall on August 19. With his deep bass and heavy wubs, Getter is an icon in the dubstep industry and has been around forever. I’m hap py to see he’ll be coming back to Webster Hall as this venue is incredible and made for top tier acts like this to showcase their talents. If you’re looking for something a bit more chill, Droeloe at the Brooklyn Mirage on August 20 will have the vibes you need. With their clean future bass vibes and ambient atmosphere, Droeloe bring the best of both worlds. Combining bass aspects with intriguing melodies and synths, they have been able to cement their place in the EDM industry as one of the forerunners of simply great music. Now, one can not mention upcoming shows in NYC without mentioning the class Electric Zoo festival on Randall’s Is land from September 2-4. As always, Electric Zoo has outdone themselves and curated a stacked lineup for the people of NYC. Heav ing hitting names such as Diplo, Porter Rob inson, John Summit, DJ Snake, Seven Lions, and Subtronics will be in attendance on the mainstage. The rest of the lineup fills out the vibe and energy even more with huge names across numerous subgenres. Some of the ones you should definitely not miss out on include Clozee, Peekaboo, Subdocta, A Hun dred Drums, Tripp St., Rome in Silver, Tchami, Malaa, Wax Motif, Diesel (aka Shaq), and Of the Trees. But really, there’s not enough room here to go through all the amazing artists on this lineup. So check it out for yourself and stop by for an amazing time at a magical place. So you’ve been slacking on finding new mu sic and need some help, right? Well, that’s what I’m here for! Kyral X Banko have recently released their newest EP called “Brad” and this one is a super diverse and immersive al bum with a little bit of fun and humor thrown in. This album includes elements of bass music, house, and drum and bass to form a work of art that is sure to satisfy a number of different fans. I found out about this duo a while back and am constantly impressed with the music they put out and love the fact that they are just having fun with it. That’s what music should be about and these guys nail it. Now, I’ve recently been on a bit of a house music kick and can’t stop listen ing to a lot of bass house and G house as it has the driving basslines I’ve come to know and love and while also giving me that 128bpm rhythm to dance along to. Rather than a specific artist, I’d like to turn y’all on to the Night Bass label crated by AC Slater. This label focuses on keeping the house intention alive while also adding a bit more of the heaviness that has become popu lar these days. This label includes artists such as The Sponges, Nostalgix, AC Slater, Nubass, MPH, Phleg matic Dogs, and Chris Lorenzo. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed by checking these art ists out and you can thank me later. Feel free to reach out with to richiegtechno@gmail.com.

CHICAGO SOUL It’s amazing that it took a grocery store tv commercial to bring my attention to “Move With The Groove; Hardcore Chicago Soul 1962-1970. “Ev ery Beat Of My Heart” by The Du-ettes dragged me in and now I am hip, several decades too late, to the labels and art ists that were such an influ ence on where pop culture tilted toward as the decade ended. I’d never heard of any of these artists, and now I am entranced by the sounds and styles found.
The silver colored 12” vinyl not only includes two live tracks and a recently re corded new track, which gives us a first hint of how the third album will sound like — but also one of the heaviest versions of the Sgt. Pepper’s classic ever recorded!
Heavy metal band Stryper released their latest single “See No Evil, Hear No Evil” off their upcoming album set for release later this year. This single release follows the successful release of first single “Rise To The Call,” on June 24th. This new album release, produced by front man Michael Sweet, firmly continues the trend established over the band’s last few albums, the new music sees the band growing heavier while also maintaining their trademark melodies, virtuoso guitar playing, and air tight rhythms. When it comes to groundbreaking bands in the metal genre, Stryper is renowned for their distinctive brand of “heavenly metal,” extraordinary crossover success, and venerable endurance.
Rock and roll movies are a hit or miss proposition; for the most part, they miss; they wind up flopping by being too Hollywood and not nearly enough rock. The current “Elvis” bio pic does the job it was supposed to do, and does it well. Well cast and well acted, the birth of rock and roll is delivered properly on the big screen. There’s no overacting and make believe segments to keep the audience interested. The soundtrack speaks for itself: Elvis ‘fathers’ a music idiom into the main stream, and rock & roll culture is born. I did get to see him live at the Nassau Coliseum in the early 70’s, and by then he was “Las Vegas Elvis”, but it still was a major moment for me. El vis records are selling like crazy again as a result.
Death metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE will close out 2022 with a North American headlining tour! The month-long journey will commence No vember 3rd in Silver Springs, Maryland and run through December 10th in St. Petersburg, Florida with support pro vided by Dark Funeral, Immolation, and Black Anvil. The trek includes a head lining performance at the first annual Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Denver on December 2nd. Additionally, the band will appear on this year’s edition of the Blue Ridge Rock Festival this September.
The folks at Motown Records have finally gotten around to devoting a 2 CD, with exten sive booklet, release which recounts the history of The Supremes mainstay, Mary Wil son. Wilson was the only group member to be there from the early 60’s, until the the late 70’s, when the group disbanded, having gone through several lead singers and the death of founding mem ber Florence Ballard. Wilson got a solo on most of the many Su premes album during the reign of Diana Ross, as well as the Jean Terrell years (she took the lead spot when Ross went solo). It’s true that Mary Wilson is most famous for her autobiography, “Dreamgirl: My Life As A Su preme”, which is sad considering how well she did when given the spotlight.
The group ascended to prominence in the 1980s with Billboard Top 40 hits like “Calling on You,” “Honestly,” and “Always There for You” and has maintained a global fan base since. Stryper’s career album sales exceed 10 million world wide, including 1986’s multi-platinum release To Hell with the Devil. Today, some 37+ years after emerging from the southern California nightclub scene, Stryper continues to record, tour and perform for loyal fans around the globe. With three original members including brothers Michael Sweet (lead vo cals, guitar) and Robert Sweet (drums), Oz Fox (guitar) and newest bandmate, seasoned bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of Firehouse), the group finds it self creating their finest, most powerful music yet.

During the sessions for Things Happen That Way, Rebennack invited a few old friends to lend their voices to the project. Among those who happily obliged was Willie Nelson, one of Mac’s close friends and most treasured musical collaborators. Their soul-stirring, exuberant rendition of the beloved Gospel standard “Gimme That Old Time Religion” was recently released. Rebennack was planning future projects when his life was suddenly cut short in 2019. The album, which features three brand new original compositions, a mesmerizing reworking of Dr. John’s 1968 classic “I Walk on Guilded Splinters, and new interpretations of songs by Willie Nelson, Cowboy Jack Clement, Hank Williams, and the Traveling Wilburys will be released on September 23.
