Lucy is so famous she has her own Wikipedia page; after all, it was gifted to the Beatle by Eric Clapton in 1967. Six years later, it was stolen in Los Angeles, and the story of what it took to get her back has become part of rock-and-roll lore.

Beatles guitarist George Harrison bought a 1958 Sunburst Les Paul so he could get back the legendary Lucy, which was a gift from EricOnClapton.online message boards frequented by guitar players, there remains some lively disagreement about the ethics of ransoming one stolen guitar by demanding another. It’s an argument that, like most things rock and roll, begins with the Beatles — George Harrison, specifically, whose beloved red Gibson Les Paul nicknamed Lucy was returned to Harrison only after he offered the guitar’s new owner another vintage Les Paul.

Lester’s Smoked Meats Gibby’s Place du Canada
Our first stop was Lester’s Smoked Meats, on Rue St. Bernard in the Outremont section, north of downtown. Schwartz’s is the place that most people head to first, it’s kind of like Katz’s Deli is to New Yorkers. But long lines, and advice from friends that Lester’s killed it, brought us there, and they were right. Smoked meat is a bit different from our deli sandwiches of corned beef or pastrami, but it comes close, and Lester’s delivers. A gigantic sandwich of very tender meat (order it fatty) costs around $20 Canadian. With the American dollar worth about $1.25 Canadian, it’s a bargain. Billy the owner is a wealth of info on the area, and he has an admirable collection of old signs and tins. Good fries, and wash it all down with a Stewarts Root Beer.

It would be a major understatement to say the city has changed. I always thought of Montreal as the Paris of North America. It still has that French joie de vivre, but the modern world has caught up, perhaps too abruptly. Many of the beautiful historic buildings in downtown are gone, replaced by mega high risers, making it look like too many other modern cities.
Day Trippin’ Montreal
Good place to stay without breaking the bank is the Holiday Inn in Longeuil, right across the river from Old Montreal. Big rooms, great service, and good prices via Priceline.
Returning to Montreal after 18 years is like returning home after a long absence. This is one of my two favorite cities in North America, a place that I went to nearly every year from 1974-2004. I used to have a cabin 45 miles north of Montreal in Ste Marcelline.
There is still much to love in Montreal, and it is a mere seven hours drive from Long Island, although you might want to stop in Lake George the night before to cut down on the driving.
From Lester’s we meandered to St. Viateur Bagels on Rue Viateur. Very tasty, they are the legendary stop along with Fairmount Bagels,
but I found them smaller and harder than New York Bagels.
Next day we took the required pilgrimage to the Old Port section of Old Montreal. This area still has the old world vibe, and it is beautiful to walk. Don’t miss going on the gigantic Ferris Wheel, or the Zipline. Since I was last there, the whole waterfront area has become a beautiful park. Very peaceful and all ages meet here. Dozens of food stands and plenty to do with the kids. We stopped for lunch at a local place on Rue St. Paul, and had the national meal of Quebec...poutine. Ours was decent but not a standout. This version had fries, cheese curds, melted cheese, chopped smoked meat andSaturdaygravy. night we went to Gibby’s, one of my all time favorite restaurants. Housed

We skipped many of the best sites because we had been there many times before but you don’t want to miss The Olympic Stadium, The Botanical Garden, Mont Royal, Place Ville Marie and much more. It’s hard to make a bad choice in Montreal.

Stroll through the streets of Old Montreal at night, or wander down Rue Ste Catherine where it seems half the population of the city is out window shopping and enjoying the vibe. This is Montreal’s Fifth Avenue.
Sunday was our last day of this three day voyage. We headed downtown to Place du Canada where there’s a beautiful park filled with flowers and historic monuments. A visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hotel was a huge
We lucked out and were only around the corner from Mary Queen of The World Cathedral, on the corner of Rene Levesque and Mansfield Street. Sure, Notre Dame is the place to go for tourists, like St. Pat’s, but this Cathedral was exquisite and there was no charge or wait. We had lunch in another legendary smoked meat palace, Dunn’s, right across from Place du Canada. Exquisite smoked meat sandwiches, exceptional fries. Is it better than Lester’s? I would call it a very delicious draw.

disappointment. They spent tens of millions of dollars upgrading it, and failed miserably. Gone is the Victorian splendor of the lobby, replaced by a mish mash of very modern seats and fixtures. Dull...you can see this anywhere. And if you want to visit a train station that makes Penn Station seem endearing, check out the Central Gare under the Queen Elizabeth. Boring, blank, nothing!
One of the things not to miss as you enter Montreal from Route 15 is the new Champlain Bridge, a beautiful structure, similar to the new Cuomo Bridge where traffic moves vite!

Fame outfielder Rickey Henderson was a Met briefly in his career. Veteran sports journalist Howard Bryant has written “Rickey,” (HarperCollins) which is the definitive biography of the man who made an art form of speaking in the third person. Bryant reveals the humorous story of Henderson not recognizing first baseman John Olerud, who was a teammate of his when they played for the Toronto Blue Jays, when they both were with the Mets a few years later, is apocryphal. The tale was made up by a Mets trainer and embellished by their fellow teammate, Robin Ventura.

Freeman earned the $1,100 top prize by defeating Robert Aiello of Oceanside ($700) 248-229 in the final shootout. ROLL FOR THE HEROES:
Scorpion Sky bowling ball
Fans love watching baseball players take BP. It is sad to watch fans who are on the field before the game in the hopes of interacting with their heroes, blankly stare at a pristine field. Players should be taking their practice hacks outdoors because it’s healthier in this age of COVID-19, and they can judge the weather conditions in which they will be playing.
Journalists also get less access to Mets players if they are not taking batting practice. The Mets media relations department only grants access to the clubhouse to those from big media outlets. With COVID variants still around, I cannot blame the Mets for limiting the number of media in the clubhouse,

BOWLING By Bob Smith
The LIGBT is now embarking on a full schedule of events throughout Long Island as the 2022/2023 bowling season gets underway. To take part in these enjoyable tourneys, log on to ligbtour.com, or call (702) 530-0708.
The Mets seem to have stopped taking outdoor afternoon batting practice before games. According to a veteran baseball writer, the team’s analytics department is behind the decision. They apparently think the players tire from hitting in the heat. Note to the Mets analytics department: that is ridiculous snowflake thinking. They must think the Mets, who frequently have trouble driving in runs, are the 1927 New York Yankees.
It took 28 years, but the Mets finally held an Old Timers’ Day with player alumni who ran the gamut from 1962 original Mets as Frank Thomas, Craig Anderson, Ed Kranepool, Jay Hook, Ken MacKenzie to recent retirees as Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy.
As we go to press, the 2022/2023 season is just getting underway – and this is the perfect time to contact your local house and join an organized bowling league. Area league participation in 2022 saw a healthy rebound, and participating is a great way to make new friends, get in shape, and return to a sport that’s hotter than ever thanks to renewed interest in the PA and improvements in many area bowling centers. If you haven’t stepped into what used to be dubbed “bowling alleys” recently, we think you’ll be impressed. Remember: If you join a USBC-sanctioned league, not only do your scores count, but there are other enjoyable benefits for members. Get off that sofa and get rolling!

although there may be other factors at work when it comes to limiting the access smaller media outlets receive. Even those who are granted clubhouse access have complained about how players hide in the trainer’s room and the cafeteria Baseball is now the third most popular sport behind both the NFL and NBA. This is not the way to get it back to its glory days.
It was a forgone conclusion the big storyline of the 2022 US Open was Serena Williams’ swan song. There was hope Taylor Fritz, the top American player coming into the tournament, and who was the first American man to win at Indian Wells in 20 years, would end the USA’s male drought at the US Open. Fritz was unceremoniously bounced in the first round by fellow American, Brandon Holt, who is the son of former women’s tennis star, Tracy Austin.

Showtime smartly debuted “McENROE,” which had a showing at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, during the US Open. Douglaston native John McEnroe is one of the greatest tennis players, but he acknowledges more people remember him for his temper and on-court tantrums with referees, than for his Grand Slam titles. With the wisdom which comes with age, McEnroe admits that now embarrasses him. He accepts his share of the blame for his tempestuous marriage to his first wife, Tatum O’Neal, but seems to have found his soulmate, with his second wife, former Scandal lead singer, Patty Smyth. John McEnroe is a decent rock guitarist, so you know he grew up reading Good Times.

Jets rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has quickly learned the benefits of being a high profile athlete working the nation’s biggest market. He just signed a sunglasses endorsement deal with Oakley. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is also an Oakley endorser.Former heavyweight boxing champion Deontay Wilder has seen his star dim a bit since getting knocked out by Tyson Fury last October. Wilder is determined to regain his title, and he will be starting his comeback on October 15 when he battles Finland’s Robert Helenius at Barclays Center. Levittown native, and MLB Network air personality, Brian Kenny will be calling the action on Fox Sports.

Fiore facilitates a reflective tone on “On Being Good,” with cinematic guitar work and lyrics that relate to anyone who has felt unheard and unwanted in a relationship, yet still gave their best.
single follows up Fiore’s debut 2021 EP “Ten Feet Tall,” a quint collection of rock tunes she decided to record after over 20 years as a performing artist.
No band is an island, so of course there are influenc es—the fuzzy clangor of The Velvet Underground, the key board-stabbing exhilaration of The Clean, the paranoiac lyricism of Suicide, the giddy wallop of the Modern Lovers’ “Roadrunner,” the time-bending open-ended-ness of Can.
While Tom Jones still sounds as if he were playing Caesars Palace in 1969, and remains strikingly handsome, he immediately acknowledged he wouldn’t be able to move around the stage the way he used to, as he informed the audience, he will be having hip surgery in London in late October. Nonetheless, he was in great spirits and enjoyed engaging the crowd as he sat tethered to a tall stool. It is safe to assume some women still tossed underwear or a hotel key at the stage, which was a standard occurrence in his heyday.

The prickly Van Morrison clearly does not subscribe to Kay’s philosophy. He refused to play classic rock radio station staples as “Moondance,” “Wild Night,” “Domino,” Jackie Wilson Said,” “Blue Money,” “Into The Mystic,” or “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?” He threw a bone to the crowd at the end of his show with a soporific rendition of “Brown-Eyed Girl,” and the monotonous “Gloria,” a song whose hook consists of spelling out the woman’s name “G-L-O-R-I-A” repeatedly. Morrison had the chutzpah to walk off the stage and not even thank the audience. or wish them a good night.
“ONEIDA VIDEO FOR ‘ROTTEN”
Sometimes even the longest journey ends close to where you started. Throughout the teens, Oneida pushed further and further into abstract, atmospheric sounds, recording long haunting compositions that couldn’t have been more different than the pulsing, hammering anthems of their past. But now they return with Success, their most guitar-cen tric, rock album in decades. It kicks off with “Beat Me to the Punch,” a song that is minimal like the best Ramones songs are minimal, pared back to beat and melody and a limited number of guitar chords.
Even when his segment of the concert was over, Tom Jones was not done for the evening. He engaged in two
Oneida has long straddled gray-area boundaries be tween the NYC punk/psych/rock world and the art/experi mental world, playing at gritty rock clubs and elevated cul tural institutions, including the Guggenheim, MoMA PS1, ICA London, MassMOCA and the Knoxville Museum of Art. The band has been known for extended live improvisational performances.
TOM JONES/VAN MORRISON FOREST HILLS STADIUM
At Oneida’s first post-pandemic show in July 2021, the band played its landmark, single-note-hammering classic “Sheets of Easter,” then launched into all new material. The connection between the new songs and the old one was palpable, in the banging rhythms, the blasts of keyboards, the motorik motion that can go on forever or stop on a dime.
LONG ISLAND SOUNDS
I once asked Steppenwolf lead singer John Kay before a show at the Westbury Music Fair if he ever tired of having to perform “Born To Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride.” He quickly replied “Absolutely not. I am here for my audience. They have helped provide me a wonderful life,” he replied without hesitation.
The audience was more than happy to provide the chorus to the hits in Jones’s set list. He freshened up his
The term “legends” gets thrown around quite liberally in both sports and entertainment. There is little doubt, however, that the term is appropriate when discussing either 82- yearold Welsh singer extra ordinaire Tom Jones or 77-year-old Belfast native Van Morrison. Both have tremendous catalogs of hits, and happily both have voices which have defied the aging gods, based on their performances last month at Forest Hills Stadium.
Jones did not shy away from his age, and the physical changes and limits which come along with one’s golden years. He opened with “I’m Growing Old,” from his most recent album, “Surrounded by Time,” and followed that up with his cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Tower Of Song,” in which the lyrics describe the loss of friends and the graying of hair, both of which come with the passage of time. Jones sings that nobody should shed a tear in a eulogy for him when his time is up because he has had, as the song title states, “A Hell Of A Life.”
Everyone at Forest Hills Stadium had to have been grateful Tom Jones was able to perform despite physical pain because Van Morrison did nothing to make a beautiful night weather-wise, the slightest bit memorable.

A musical tale of unreciprocated love emerges from the city that never sleeps with the new single “On Be ing Good” from New York City-based singer/songwriter JillTheFiore.new
G’Ra Asim says, “I had just started a new job as an English professor, and the opening couplet of Season Premiere came to me during office hours: ‘I was searching for a guide/in the pages of poets/But I’m still not bonafide/as a sage or a stoic.’ I’d spent so much time studying literature in the hopes that the bards of old held the wisdom I could use to orient my own journey. Stu dents were looking to me to share that wisdom, yet I was keenly aware that I had so much left to figure out myself. The eureka moment we sometimes think we’re pursuing doesn’t necessarily deliver. The closest you can actually get is accepting that there’s no grand design to uncov er, which means you’re free to make your own. ‘Season Premiere’ is the sound of four weary but still wide-eyed weirdos doing exactly that, and inviting the listener to do so in their own right.”
SONGWRITER JILL FIORE TRIBUTE
duets with headliner Van Morrison, as they performed a couple of classic blues tunes, Chuck Willis’s “What Am I Living For?” and Leadbelly’s “Goodnight Irene.” Unfortunately, those were the highlights of Van Morrison’s portion of the evening. Morrison never spoke to the audience and did not seem to care that he and his musicians, as talented as they were, were boring them to tears. He opened on a promising note with the uptempo “Dangerous,” but quickly segued into endless, little-known jazz/blues tunes as “Precious Time,” “Thank God for the Blues,” “Can’t Go On This Way,” “Days Like This,” and “Broken Record.”
first worldwide smash, 1965’s “It’s Not Unusual,” with a Creole zydeco sound but it was still recognizable. He had fun covering Prince’s “Kiss,” which he recorded with Art of Noise in 1988, but he had to change his ad-lib line from “I think I better dance now” to “I think they better play now” (referring to his band), because of his hip issue.
New school pop punkers Baby Got Back Talk debuted their latest single/video “Season Premiere” off their up coming Wiretap Records debut EP, ‘Existential Shred’, on SeptemberVocalist/bassist9th.
WHEELS DEALS
“On Being Good” was brought to life in the heart of the Big Apple, with recording duties overseen by Joey Wunsch (SUPR8) at Flux Studios. “On Being Good” was produced by Jill herself, along with guitarist Derek Cruz. “Ten Feet Tall” was produced by New York singer song writer Jesse Malin, while award-winning Craig Weinberg mixed the single at the Sound Association in midtown Manhattan while mastering was handled by Fred Kevorki an (The White Stripes, Maroon 5) of Kevorkian Mastering.

Tom Jones must relish his hits about those who commit suicide because he sang both “The Green, Green Grass of Home,” a tune about the dream of a death row inmate on his last day of life, and “Delilah,” in which the protagonist kills a cheating lover who mocks him.

BABY GOT BACK TALK SINGLE
The band released a new music video for the previ ously unreleased B-Side, “Take It All,” the first instant grat track (available now to stream/download) being offered off the upcoming release. In his liner notes, McCall writes, “On ‘Take It All,’ the absence of midrange guitar opens space for Ackermann’s vocals, and allows him the sort of expressive latitude uncommon in noise-rock.”
ALEXIA AVINA NEW CRUSH
The new Film from Cappricielli Productions “The Leg end of Lake Ronkonkoma: The Lady Of The Lake” is cur rently wrapping up production in and around Yaphank and LakeTheRonkonkoma.intriguingpsychological
A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS
The opening track, “You,” explores the fall into fantasti cal thought patterns during a budding crush, and knowing it’s at your own risk.
“Dew Drop” begins with ethereal, disjointed synths and a rising chorus of Avina’s vocals, and then the beat drops into a dream that dances with uncertainty. “Varying Fantasy” and “Minimal Loop” center Avina’s assured voice and poetic lyricism, while “Let This Die” rallies around a swirling synth line, an infectious and shifting beat, and conflicting thoughts—not unlike the experience of rejection and letting it go.
Leaving behind any sense of preciousness or expec tation, Crush EP is an escapade of swirling synths and mesmerizing beats, an introspection of infatuation.
Musically, Avina’s focus shifted exclusively to synth— divergent from her previous releases, and a new instru ment to learn, which proved to be a liberating endeavor: Written and recorded in her bedroom in Ridgewood, Queens, Avina collaborated with Alex DeSimine (Talk Ba zaar) and Tea Sea, who both employed drum program ming and some additional synths.
LEGEND OF LAKE RONKONKOMA
“The main character, Jamie Schultz, happens to have lineage that is traceable to the original people of the Lake. I combined the supernatural component with a family suffering from a tragic loss while being haunted by this so-called “Legend”, said Maria Capp, writer, director, and producer of the film.
Exploding Head (13th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) features newly remastered audio by band vocalist and guitarist Oliver Ackermann, plus ten bonus tracks featuring rarities, unreleased material, and three blistering covers of tracks by Love & Rockets, The 13th Floor Elevators, and David Bowie. In addition, the newly remastered original 10-track album Exploding Head (13th Anniversary Edition) is being offered as a single LP on transparent red wax.
The 2-LP set (available exclusively at the band’s web store) is pressed on transparent clear wax and housed in a numbered gatefold sleeve, featuring newly designed artwork, 12” original cover art card, and new liner notes by renowned music journalist Tris McCall.

As the film was being finalized in 2013, Randy unexpectedly became ill and suffered a massive stroke, making him unable to perform and severely limiting his speech due to aphasia. The film touches on his storied career, envelopes the final professionally filmed live performance from the man and inspires with his story of healing, redemption and faith. Additionally, the full documentary is now available for purchase on iTunes. Both links here: https://wmna.sh/morelife.
Far from having exhausted the possibil ities of that project, Mendes brings her singular vision to the concert stage in collaboration with master keyboardist/arranger John Beasley and the Metropole Orkest on her new live album, Saudade, Colour of Love, due out October 7th via Challenge Records.

MARSHALL GILKES CYCLIC JOURNEY
The nine movements on Cyclic Journey reflect the elements of Gilkes personal and professional life. “First Light” opens with a gentle chorale (Gil kes composes the hippest, emotive Chorales, which are featured throughout the album), capturing the optimistic mood of a quiet house, very early in the morning, while the rest of the world is seemingly still sleeping.
One of the highlights on both albums is “Hermeto’s Fado for Maria,” a new piece written for Mendes by the iconic Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal. The song was gifted to her in the form of a handwritten score on the back of a hotel room emergency exit instruction card.
With his debut full-length album Oh Me, Oh My, Missouri-bred songwrit er Forrest McCurren showcases his sharp eye for the little quirks in the world and the people who surround him; a skill that reveals humor bub bling just below the surface of ev eryday life. Like some of his favorite influences—Kristofferson, Prine, and Van Zandt, to name just a few.
Music is McCurren’s favorite ways to connect with people. “My songs show them a little bit of who I am and when I show them a little of me they share a little bit of them, too.” He doesn’t write sad songs, but songs that move us and celebrate, as he says, the “luckiness of life.” As his debut album shows, McCurren excels at making those connection and at celebrating life. Forrest McCurren has a reverence for the songs, and he sings, plays, and writes with a heart for bringing people together.
Hailing from Portugal and based for the last decade and a half in the Netherlands, Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-nomi nated vocalist and composer Maria Mendes is no stranger to living between two different worlds. With her critically acclaimed 2019 album Close To Me, Mendes spotlighted her ability to bring disparate influences to gether in stunning fashion with her vibrant fusion of symphonic jazz and Portuguese Fado, the folk music of her homeland.
“Musings,” and “Cyclic Journey,” are the resolution and the afterglow, ex pressing joy and satisfaction, and two examples of Gilkes’ sound, his gift as a composer, and his melodicism. The bonus track, worth the price of admission alone!, is one final bow to brass grandeur, as Gilkes and his fellow horn men bring down the house with “Sin Filtro,” (Unfiltered) which boasts some of the leader’s signatures – extreme register jumps, strong melodies, sophisticated harmonies, rhythmic intensity.
The album is the latest creative mashup from producers Christian and Frank Ber man (The Berman Brothers) and partner Ron Oehl, and the 11-tracks recreate the musical arrangements behind beloved country songs including Dolly Parton’s “Two Doors Down,” Alabama’s “Pass It On Down,” Rascal Flatts’ “I Like The Sound of That,” Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup,” Uncle Kracker’s “Smile,” Randy Houser’s “Boots On,” Jimmie Allen’s “Make Me Want To” and more; fusing together the top Reggae mu sicians in Jamaica with vocals from some of the biggest artists in country music today.
Tracked and mixed magnificently by John Davis at Brooklyn’s Bunker Studios, Rosato’s bass sounds out with clarity and intention. The resulting listening experi ence candidly confirms what is in Rosato’s heart; he is an improviser enraptured by the endless possibilities within Black American roots music.
This year, Warner Music Nashville and YouTube teamed up to bring Travis’ recently released “More Life” documentary to the platform in a seven-part series that is available to stream now and has amassed 145,000 views. “More Life” started as an intimate con cert special in 2011 to honor the 25th anniversary of Randy Travis’ iconic album Storms of Life. Many didn’t know how important this documentary would become.
On his solo debut album, Rick Rosato steps forward with his bass in tribute to Black American musicians who form the foundation of American popular music. It represents renewal and an important benchmark in his career.
RANDY TRAVIS
Country Music Hall of Fame member Randy Travis paid a visit to the Country Rebel Ranch to inspire up-and-coming artists Tony Jackson, Karissa Ella and Justin Holmes. In addition to celebrat ing Randy’s birthday, each artist picked their favorite classic Travis song to per form for him. The series launched with a trailer featuring interviews with each artist, Travis and wife, Mary, as well as Kevin and Darin Blue. Watch the se ries in full https://lnk.to/cr-randyPR
With the release of Oh Me, Oh My, McCurren shares his whole new collection with the world. and can be streamed or purchased.
For many of the songs that wound up on Homage, Rosato incorporates a few different tunings on the bass including one inspired by guitarist Skip James for a deeper and more resonant sound. In this position, Rosato interprets the language and feeling of such songs as James’ “Hard Time Killing Floor Blues” and “Devil Got My Woman.” In the case of Waters’ “I Can’t Be Satisfied” and “Cherry Ball Blues,” also by Skip James.
INSPIRES RISING ARTISTS
The esteemed Jamaican artists (assembled by The Berman Brothers) – Positive Vibrations – include Ian “Beezy” Coleman (Ziggy and Damian Marley, Wyclef, Fugees), Devon Bradshaw (Burning Spear), Guillaume “Stepper Sax” Briard, Henry Matic Tune (UB40, Aswad, Dennis Brown), and the next-gen class of players. Embodying the musical elements of Reggae such as the thumping bass and drums blended with staccato horn arrangements, the album’s Rock and Soul upbeat aesthetic flows throughout the record, making it the perfect summertime playlist.
JAZZ & BLUES
RICK ROSATO DEBUT ALBUM
MARIA MENDES SAUDADE
Grammy nominated trombonist and composer Marshall Gilkes has a singular and distinct voice on the trombone, one that simultaneously express es beauty, virtuosity, the raw spontaneity of impro visation fused with the elegant, stately architecture of classical music. From playing lead trombone with The Vanguard Orchestra, to performing with The Maria Schneider Orchestra,he’s produced six critically-acclaimed albums thus far.
FOREST MCCURREN DEBUT
Mendes and Beasley also prepared three new songs for the new album. The performance that opens Saudade, Colour Of Love lives up to that enthusiasm, opening with lush, elegiac strings behind Mendes’ vocal, then building to a soaring clarinet solo by the Metropole’s Christof May, spurred on by Cédric Hanriot’s muscular piano work.
Homage is the captivating, debut album from bassist Rick Rosato that represents his rededication to the blues as his leading muse.
Putting a reggae twist on some of country music’s biggest hits, renowned Jamaican musicians – dubbed Positive Vibrations – have released Country Goes Reggae featuring Country Music Hall of Famers Dolly Parton and Alabama along with Jimmie Allen, Randy Houser, Rascal Flatts, Chase Rice, Toby Keith, Lainey Wilson, Uncle Kracker and more.
COUNTRY GOES REGGAE WITH DOLLY
The band and orchestra will be playing a unique line up of selections that will include Annie Haslam’s favorite Renaissance classics alongside favorites from her many solo recordings. Much of the music from these shows will be performed for the first time with orchestral arrangements. The group plans to release a double CD in 2023 from recordings captured during the tour.
The concert recording was released later that year on CD and video. Now, for the first time, All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman will be avail able on vinyl. The four-LP box set will be released on September 30, and a number of limited-edition color variants will be offered for purchase.
Known principally as the vocalist, lead guitarist and composer for The Moody Blues - Justin Hay ward released his new single entitled “Living For Love” via BMG his first release in over two years and comes ahead of his tour of the UK happening this“Livingmonth. For Love” was recorded in Italy earlier this year, but the release was held until now while Hayward featured in ‘The War Of The Worlds’ tour and completed his rescheduled live solo gigs in the US so that the song could be released ahead of his UK tour. Hayward and his recording partner Alberto Parodi are the only musicians featured on the record.
Muswell Hillbillies’ release was supported by more US touring, including two 1972 nights at New York’s iconic Carnegie Hall. Tapes of those anarchic shows, heavy on Muswell material, formed the live half of 1972’s double-album, Everybody’s In ShowBiz - Everybody’s A Star. Its studio sides explored The Kinks’ long months on the Amer ican road with wistful humour. Its epic finale, ‘Celluloid Heroes’, confirmed the band’s new world. Among the elite cream of Kinks songs, it saw Ray use Hollywood as a prism to view ordinary Americans’ bittersweet dreams.
This period’s first Kinks album, Muswell Hillbillies, is for many people their best of all. It conversely looked back on Ray and Dave Davies’ London roots, telling tales of working-class families migrating from the war-torn and redevelopment-ravaged inner city to the strange, leafy suburbs of North London.
ROCK Good Times Magazine - September 20 - October 17, 2022 • 23
As well as his work with The Moody Blues, Hayward has released seven solo studio albums and continues to be in high demand as a performer across the world.
They’ll be at the Patchogue Theatre October 19th.
In 1971, the great British rock group The Kinks embarked on a new phase of their career by signing with RCA Records. Freed from their old label Pye’s insistence on hit singles, Ray Davies’ song writing accelerated his band’s move towards a new identity as makers of thematically ambitious, tenderly personal albums, building on preceding cult successes such as The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society.
On January 10, 2014, a multi-generational, all-star lineup of musicians from the worlds of rock, blues and country joined together at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre for a once-in-a-lifetime concert event to pay tribute to the life and music of the legendary singer, songwriter, and musician Gregg Allman. Tickets to the concert sold out in minutes, and to date, it remains one of the high est-grossing one-night events in the venue’s history.
As its title suggests, the tour this year will high light the career of Annie Haslam in celebration of her 75th birthday this June. Six of the shows will in clude the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra, com prised of ten hand picked orchestral musicians, that made its debut with Renaissance in 2017.
CLASSIC
Devon Allman vividly recalls that evening. “The All My Friends tribute show was such a classy event. I remember Dad saying ‘Son, aren’t they supposed to have shows like this after you die?’ I laughed and said ‘Well…maybe so …but you get to jam at this one with your friends!’ He was so deeply touched that night by the outpouring of love and music in his honor. A highlight of his career, for sure.’

Onnight.October 6 we have Kygo and his tropical house vibes headlining at Madison Square Garden bringing you pure bliss and entrancing melodies. October 7 hosts Bear Grillz at Webster Hall for those of you looking to get heavy with the dubstep to a classic artist who has been in the game for around a decade. If maybe you’re feeling like you want more of a house music night, the always loveable John Summit will be playing at the Brooklyn Mirage on October 8 to get you bouncing all night long. But, if you’re more of a Top 40 lover, you might want to check out Two Friends at Marquee NY. They blend the best hits over the years with upbeat and addicting modern EDM to give the best of both worlds. And if you just want to get weird and goofy, Marc Rebillet will be at the Brooklyn Mirage on October 11. Marc aka “Loop Daddy” improvises all his music and lyrics live, so every show is different. He’s also hilarious and doesn’t take life too seriously, making his shows exceptionally entertaining and a night to remember. Once you’ve bought all of your tickets, it’s time to settle in and listen to those new tunes! An artist
Ruvlo is another gem I’ve recently found. He’s a solid mix of dubstep and bass music and also has heavy hitting drops mixed with intergalactic bass. I was blown away by the sheer number of standout tracks I heard from Ruvlo and was blessed to have recently seen him at Illfest in Austin, TX. Some specific tracks I’ve been bumping include “Evil Eye”, “Outer Space”, “Wook Machine”, and “Lasers”. He is still relatively new as an artist

Hey out there. We’re back for another installation of everyone’s favorite column, Technobeat! New York has quite a lot of shows coming up and I’m hoping you can make it out to as many of them as possible. September 23 is quite the night with multiple amazing shows to choose from happening. First up, we have Flamingosis at Le Poisson Rouge. Flamingosis is like if disco and electronics music had a wonderful, modern baby. He’s got super fun energy and really catchy music that will take you back for sure. If you’re looking for something a bit heavier, Dirt Monkey and Boogie T will be laying it down at Pier 40 with their heavy basslines and addicting wubs. Both their styles are rather wonky and I would avoid missing these two if at all possible. If you’re looking to take it back to the old school days, Knife Party will be at Marquee NY bringing their eclectic and energetic style to the Big Apple. Knife Party was one of the first artists I was into in the early 2010s and have a plethora of classics and new age electronic music to keep you entertained all
I’ve been bumping a lot of recently is bass producer Shanghai Doom. These two know just how to make your skin crawl in the most enjoyable way possible. Their sound design is truly on another level, leaving me constantly wondering how in the hell they can create what they do. It is so unique and interesting as well as heavy, I can only imagine they put in quite a lot of time to get their music to where it is. It makes me sad to see that these two haven’t completely blown up in popularity because they deserve it. The recently released “Failed Connections” EP is what I’ve been jamming to a bunch as well as their collab with Mr. Carmack called “Ripper”. Their “Dark Waters” album is also a force to be reckoned with. Go check ‘em out and don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Grace Leer just released her single “Ones Before Me,” a fun upbeat ode to the greats of country music. This single along with “After 1,” “Brought A Girl,” is off her forthcoming self titled debut EP released on September 14. Earlier this year, GOLD record holder and Kansas native, Logan Mize asked her to join him on his latest single, “Nothing with You,” released 4/8 as well as direct support on his Spring 2022 “It’s About Time” tour.
PUSSY RIOT DEBUT MIXTAPE
Ella Jane once again matches up pristine, upbeat pop with grim lyrics, singing about the anxiety that comes with being in one of those undefined “we’ll see” situation-ships. The video, directed by Aerin Moreno (Girlpool, Madison Beer), mirrors this combo of lighthearted and doubt, with a very camp alien encounter that could have gone in a much more gruesome direction. It’s easy to laugh along with Ella.
The mixtape features collaborations with Tove Lo (who executive produced the project), Salem Ilese, Kito, Hudson Mohawke, Slayyyter, ILOVEMAKONNEN, Big Freedia, REI AMI, Phoebe Ryan and more. Last month, Pussy Riot announced the project with “PLASTIC” featuring ILOVEMAKONNEN alongside the official music video, directed by Haley Bowman.
Singer-songwriter and crypto pioneer Tatiana Moroz released a brand new single, “Keep Your Chin Up.” The track is the first single from her forthcoming album, Love Songs for Idiots, set for release on October 21. The album was produced by GRAMMY Award-winning mixer and producer, Will Hensley (Coldplay, Shakira, The Fray, John Mayer, Regina Spektor, Gavin DeGraw).

Alongside the album is a new NFT collection drop, which boasts carefully curated images of Tatiana. The collection showcases the original portrait concepts from the official Love Songs for Idiots photoshoot, as well as AI and blended AI versions of the images generated by Pixelmind –an AI generator that allows artists to create and collect high-resolution NFTs.
Pussy Riot furthered their notoriety with a collection of singles across the last few years, such as the project “Make America Great Again” which was eerily recorded and the video shot before Trump was elected president.
ELLA JANE “HOW DO I LOSE YOU”
Ella Jane’s sound is a harmonious amalgamation of folk, soul and indie-pop. Her voice is bright and controlled it’s addictive, put-on-repeat-able. Her 2021 single “Nothing Else I Could Do” has amassed over 21 million streams on Spotify.

CRYPTO QUEEN TATIANA MOROZ
Isabella Lovestory announced her new project Amor Hardcore due October 5th. Paired with the announcement, Lovestory unleashes her new single “Sexo Amor Dinero” produced by frequent collaborators Kamixlo and Chicken, and arrives with a video directed by Moshpxt that captures her in her element: a fiery blast of seduction, glitz and glamour from the beaches of Mexico.
“My new album HOLY FVCK is a deeply personal journey that begins with pain and anger, and through this emotional release, the album concludes in a hopeful place of joy that allows me to take my power back from the very things that made me angry,” Demi states. “I knew I wanted to showcase my new music in a unique way for my fans, both visually and sonically. So when an Original Live Performance with Vevo was on the table, I immediately started to brainstorm creatively – the lighting, the room design, my look and outfits, how to incorporate our incredible female live band – all of it!
Amor Hardcore distills Isabella Lovestory down to her essence, honing the experimental perreopop she’s tinkered with on past projects. The result - a raunchy blend of songs with classic reggaeton rhythms and progressive club beats written by a girl with distinct mainstream pop aspirations in mind. The new project includes the previously-released singles “Fashion Freak” and “Cherry Bomb”.
WOMEN WHO ROCK
Ella Jane follows her recent single “Party Trick” with another pop staple “How Do I Lose You”. Both are lifted from her forthcoming project marginalia coming out October 28th, 2022 via FADER Label.
Vevo announced the release of Demi Lovato’s Official Live Performance of “29” off her new album, HOLY FVCK. Vevo and Demi Lovato have a long history working together, including a 2012 “Vevo Presents” set, 2017 Vevo x Demi Lovato performance of “Tell Me You Love Me,” and Footnotes videos of “SUBSTANCE,” “SKIN OF MY TEETH” and “Dancing With The Devil.”
ISABELLA LOVESTORY NEW PROJECT
“Keep Your Chin Up’’ is four minutes of ethereal folk-pop guitars, bouncy bass lines, dynamic drums, and Tatiana’s crooning vocal melodies. Straightforward and singing with purpose, Tatiana evokes the familiar feeling of heartbreak in a way that strays from the predictable – meeting pain and poignancy with playful, yet profound storytelling.
Russian protest art collective Pussy Riot released their debut mixtape MATRIARCHY NOW on Neon Gold Records (MARINA, Charli XCX, Christine and the Queens etc.) featuring new single “PRINCESS CHARMING” with Salem Ilese. The release comes just before the 10-year “anniversary” of their August 17, 2012 verdict of being convicted with hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, and spending 2 years in jail for protesting Putin.
GRACE LEER NEW SINGLE
Grace Leer released her single “Ones Before Me,” to all music platforms. The single, written by Madison Kozak, Andy Skibb and Catt Gravitt, is a fun sing-along tune that celebrates country music greats including Loretta, Waylon and Willie. Leer recorded it live in a Nashville studio and producer Dan Fernandez really brought the mix to life by creating a live feel with a modern twist and a guitar lick that’s guaranteed to stick.

One long time su perstar, Elton John, will never give up his place at top 40 radio, and through the decades he has managed to always find a way back up there, transcending over 5 decades of chart climbing, and now he’s at it again, recording a duet with pop superstar Britney Spears as a new single release. Someone should have told Elton that, just like he himself, Spears is another former top 40 star and is almost in the same position as Elton; Top 40 radio programmers haven’t exactly been sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for a new Britney single; regardless, good luck to this unlikely duo; WBLI, what’s the verdict?
The EP was Co-Produced by Tyler Bates and Dan Haigh, and mixed by Zakk Cervini.
The long time queen of pop, Mariah Carey, wrote a lengthy remembrance of ONJ as an influence and friend, as did Travolta and many others who associated with her in different projects. It’s a safe bet that a box set, video collection, and several hard cover books dealing with ONJ will be rushed onto the market, and rightfully so; she represents a pre-MTV, pre-internet era, where such all encompassing super stardom was still a thing; in the current world, “15 minutes” of fame (thank you Andy Warhol) is about the best a recording artist can expect; are you listening, Harry Styles? RIP ONJ.
OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN

The death of another bona fide pop star always makes the headline news, and the death of Olivia Newton-John received a tremendous amount of attention. An entire generation who grew up with “Sandy” (in the film version of “Grease: opposite John Travolta) were saddened to hear of the queen of 70’s pop having passed away. ONJ raised the flag for teen age date songs during an era when heavy metal and punk were making their way into the mainstream. Top 40 radio in America clung onto ONJ like a life preserver, as she served as the antidote to all the great rock singles that AM 77 WABC re fused to play, even though they were huge hits.

The third spin off series of the 70x Emmy Award-Winning series “The Walking Dead,” “Tales of the Walking Dead” will follow individual characters in each episode, telling the story of how they attempt to survive in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. Viewers will get to experience a world that they are already captivated by via a new lens and get to know new story lines within that universe, bringing a fresh perspective to this show. Kersti will be appearing in the pilot episode in a major role that is integral to the storyline of the show’s premiere chapter.
TALES OF THE WALKING DEAD
Their heaviest record to date, Strike A Nerve was inspired by wearing life’s battle scars on our sleeves. Not just because of their consistently incendiary live shows and vastly impressive catalog, but because of the trials and tribulations that have marked their career. They aren’t unique in that regard. What they are is resilient, their everyman, working-class ethos and stubborn perseverance creating a bond few bands ever realize.
Dark Horse Records celebrated what would have been Joe Strummer’s 70th birthday on Sunday, August 21 with premiere of “Fantastic,” available at all DSPs and streaming services. The previously unreleased track stands as one of Strummer’s final recordings, with vocals recorded in December 2002 at the famed Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales.Continuing the celebrations around Joe’s 70th birthday, longtime Strummer fan Eddie Vedder has covered “Long Shadow” from the posthumous Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros album, Streetcore. “I just think that what Joe did with the Mescaleros and those records, and those songs, and those words, it was a very communal sound,” said Vedder. “Fantastic” heralds Dark Horse Records’ release of Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years, September 16th on 4 CD w/72-page book and 7 LP w/32page book, special edition packaging and exclusive 12”x12” art print. It includes remastered editions of all three of The Mescaleros’ studio albums, plus 15 rare and unreleased tracks spanning the first demos Strummer wrote for the band to outtakes from their final recordings together, as well as songs like “Ocean Of Dreams,” featuring the Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones on guitar.
Before Malin started recording, “Springsteen had mentioned that if we needed him, he would like to be part of the record in some way,” says Jesse, who had just written “Broken Radio” for his late mother, an aspiring singer who died when Malin was a teenager. “I sent the song to Bruce, and he responded pretty quickly with a phone call, and said he was in.” The song was recorded in New Jersey at Springsteen’s home studio. Malin remembers, “He was very humble and giving, and gave a beautiful performance.”
The title track and “Racing To A Red Light” are mid-tempo burners like we haven’t heard from Drowning Pool before, the band’s heightened sense of melody coupling with white hot hooks and irresistible choruses. “Stay And Bleed” and “Down In The Dirt” are instant Drowning Pool classics, their punishing grooves making the jarring and somber ballad “Everything But You” even more impactful: “I hate everyone and everything, but you…” From the softest song the band has ever recorded, to their heaviest in album closer “Mind Right,” a homage to their hometown friends and brothers Pantera.

Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the original release of Oasis’ historic third album Be Here Now, Big Brother Recordings have made a brand new lyric video for “Stand By Me,” one of Oasis’ most streamed tracks - alongside a new HD version of the official video. These join recently unveiled HD versions of the official videos for “Don’t Go Away” and “All Around The World,” plus a brand new lyric video for “D’You Know What I Mean? (NG’s 2016 Rethink)”. Additionally, fans can test their knowledge of the album with the “Be Here Now 25th Anniversary” Quiz hosted exclusively on the Official Charts website. Be Here Now was produced by Owen Morris and Noel Gallagher and recorded at Abbey Road, Ridge Farm, Air, Master Rock and Orinoco Studios between November 1996 and April 1997. Originally mastered by Mike Marsh at The Exchange; the album was then remastered in 2016 by Ian Cooper at Metropolis Studios. As well as the evergreen classic “Stand by Me,” the album includes “D’You Know What I Mean?” The band’s 3rd No.1 single, and the ambitious 9-minute “All Around The World.” The epic elements of Be Here Now are contrasted by the heartfelt introspection of “Don’t Go Away” and the surreal psychedelic of “Magic Pie.”
From directing to writing, producing, and acting, new leading starlet Kersti Bryan will thrill audiences in the upcoming AMC’s “Tales of the Walking Dead,” the brand new, highly anticipated spin-off from “The Walking Dead” series.
