Welcome!
dove awards Dear Friends, Welcome to the 46th Annual GMA Dove Awards. Congratulations to all our nominees!
Our theme for this year’s event is “We are Better Together.” We are each unique individuals meant to truly benefit from one another’s differences and strengths. The Gospel Music Association is proud to represent a broad spectrum of creative people with the same faith and calling. Tonight we are a special part of history as we unite behind our shared purpose of exposing the Gospel through the arts. “For just as each of us has one body with many members and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” (Romans 12:4-5) The Dove Awards acknowledges our legacy and diversity, and honors the artists who are currently on the frontlines impacting our culture with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs & film. It is our desire that you experience what we have in common and appreciate all the different expressions and styles around you and on the stage. Let’s celebrate God for His amazing creativity and the fact that He is eliminating boundaries in order to share the message of hope, love and freedom. We are infinitely better together as the Church and as a creative community when we when we are united as one. Thanks for coming. Enjoy the show,
Jackie Patillo President & Executive Director

Welcome!
From the Governor Dear Friends,
On behalf of the great State of Tennessee, I am pleased to extend a warm welcome to the award nominees, organizers, and guests of the 46th Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. Tennessee is honored, once again, to host one of gospel music’s premier events. Christian and Gospel music has a long and storied tradition in our state. Many of tonight’s nominees call the Volunteer State their home and much of the music being recognized was made here as well. The Dove Awards highlight the impact of Christian & Gospel music, recognizing the work and talent of outstanding artists. Inaugurated in 1969, and first televised in 1984, this event allows millions of Americans to join in the celebration of their remarkable achievements. I am extremely thankful for the numerous contributions that these artists have made to our great state. Again, welcome to the Dove Awards. Crissy and I send our very best wishes for a wonderful and memorable evening. Warmest regards, Bill Haslam
From the Mayor Dear Friends,
Thank you for choosing Nashville for your presentation of the 46th Annual Dove Awards. Our city is honored to host this extraordinary celebration of Christian and Gospel music once again. Nashville is fortunate to be Music City and blessed to have so many genres of music centered here, including Christian and Gospel. Congratulations to all of tonight’s nominees. Your songs fill souls and inspire hearts around the world every day — and help make our city what it is. I hope you have a wonderful night here in Nashville, and if you don’t live here already, I hope you’ll come back often. Sincerely, Megan Barry Mayor

Artist of the Year Francesca Battistelli @francescamusic | Fervent Records Most Christians would tell you that God is everywhere— even in the details of our lives. But in reality, we quickly forget this truth and fail to benefit from the peace and perspective it could bring us. Francesca Battistelli, however, has a knack for mining this transcendent truth from the everyday stuff of life to help us appreciate God’s goodness and grace when we want to pull our hair out or quit.
“
Whether singing about the kindness of a friend, or finding the courage it takes to be “unusual” or celebrating the “at-home” feeling of being with your beloved, Francesca’s story connects to listeners because it’s also their story. Three of the album’s singles have hit #1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart: “Write Your Story,” “He Knows My Name” and “Holy Spirit.” This Fall, fans will get to hear their favorite songs in person as Francesca headlines the 40-city “Live Forever” tour with Matthew West.
Notables • So far, every single released from If We’re Honest has reached #1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart • Francesca’s debut, My Paper Heart was certified gold by RIAA.

Artist of the Year for King & Country @forkingandcountry | Fervent Records Anthems are for declarations of truth too glorious to just be whispered; the truth carried in an anthem demands to be shouted from the mountains! Brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, better known as For KING & COUNTRY, are anthem crafters. Their songs are filled with the energy, urgency and artistic excellence deserving of the weighty truths they share.
“
When [my son] began to walk, I often thought, if I could run wild like a one-year-old does and live a life that embraces adventure in that way, I think I would see life entirely differently. — Luke on the inspiration behind the title, RUN WILD. LIVE FREE. LOVE STRONG.
34
Take their single, “Shoulders” for example. After a flair up of ulcerative colitis, Luke dropped down to 125 pounds! With nothing to do and no one to turn to, the reality of God’s strength when we are weak was evident. Through the extended illness, the brothers learned to rest their cares squarely on the shoulders of God. “Shoulders” has been played on the radio over 50,000 times this year according to Mediabase. fK&C’s song “Without You” is another standout track which memorializes the trial Luke and his wife Courtney endured during his sickness. Courtney sings on the track with Luke providing a touching point in an overall stellar album.
Notables • “Fix My Eyes” and “Shoulders” have each hit #1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart • fK&C’s has two songs in the top 25 most played songs at radio in 2015: “Shoulders” (#4) and “Fix My Eyes” (#25) with a combined total of approximately 80,000 spins!

Joel’s wife Moriah Peters has been touring alongside fK&C this year. The band will also join the Winter Jam Tour this November bringing their multi-instrumental, exciting brand of inspiration and artistry to fans. THE BEST CHRISTIAN MUSIC EXPERIENCE
Artist of the Year KAri Jobe @karijobe | Sparrow Records Kari Jobe grew up in a family of traveling gospel singers working the merch table as a child until she was old enough to join them on stage. At age 10, she asked God to allow her to write songs that would help broken people connect to Him and God has certainly answered that prayer. Since Kari started leading worship at age 13, she has led thousands of people to times of refreshing in the presence of the Lord.
“
There’s an exchange that happens when we worship and declare who God is. A shift happens in the atmosphere surrounding our lives. It does something to encourage our spirit.
36
To listen to Kari’s music is to be transported from the here and now to the truly majestic presence of the Lord as millions of listeners have experienced. Her 2014 album Majestic includes three songs in CCLI’s Top 100: “Forever,” “Only Your Love” and “Holy Spirit.” Last month, Majestic Revisited was released with edgier remixes of the original songs. Earlier this year, Kari participated in the Outcry Tour which played to 130,000 people and saw 10,000 people saved. This winter, she’ll hit the UK with Matt Redman for 10 dates.
Notables • Majestic debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart • Kari is a co-writer of “Forever (We Sing Hallelujah),” a top 25 CCLI song

September 14, 2014 was a historic day for Christian music. That’s the day Lecrae made history by simultaneously taking the top spot on four charts: the Billboard 200, Rap Albums, Top Christian Albums and Top Gospel Albums. His seventh studio album, Anomaly sold 88,000 units and caught the attention of a watching world. Since then Lecrae has continued non-stop sharing his music and message on venues as diverse as his ever-growing audience. MercyMe’s lead singer Bart Millard says he’s is in a healthier place now than he’s ever been and it’s coming through in the joyful message of grace that permeates the band’s latest album, Welcome to the New. Millard recalls, “I grew up with a legalistic background, and even though it was all about grace, there were always three more things you could do to make life better. But of course, I’d do 10: I was an overachiever. That’s why I started a band.” The band he started with friends 20 years ago played in relative obscurity until the mammoth song, “I Can Only Imagine” took off in the 2003. “I Can Only Imagine” was the first Christian single to be certified platinum and as of 2014, became double platinum.

As one-half of the platinum-selling, label-busting group Mary Mary, Erica brought a new sound to Gospel and raised the standards for Gospel music production along with husband/producer, Warryn. Not content to be one-dimensional, Erica has impacted millions as co-star of WeTV’s highly rated show, “Mary Mary.”

To paraphrase Israel Houghton (c. 2004), God’s glory is “not a black thing, it’s not a white thing; it’s a Kingdom thing.” Israel & New Breed has always been a multi-ethnic band of believers who sing, praise, worship and spread God’s glory to the ends of the world, literally! His latest album, Covered: Alive in Asia continues his international journey of praise—he’s already recorded albums in North America, Europe and Africa.

Look for Tamela to renew her role as Toni Mann in her breakout show, Mann & Wife.

About A Mile | l @AboutAMile Word Entertainment
Brothers Adam, Levi and Luke formed the band, About A Mile, just after high school and hit the road playing to whomever would feed them. Inspired by the work ethic and dedication their father had modeled in providing for their family of eight, the brothers determined to use their music to glorify God. Things threatened to derail when frontman Adam grew gravely ill, but God had other plans. AAM’s self-titled debut has received overwhelmingly positive reviews and the brothers have continued to tour the country—this time playing at huge events like WinterJam! Look for great things from this talented trio.
Danny Gokey | l @DannyGokey BMG Rights Management
Have you ever wanted to just quit? When Danny Gokey’s first wife Sophia died at the age of 27 from complications during a corrective heart surgery, he didn’t have the energy or desire to do anything. He says he was just trying to figure out how to live minute by minute. Thankfully, Sophia’s insistence that Danny audition for American Idol to pursue his dream of making music continued to push him. Danny’s journey and persistence have become a catalyst for millions of others. Danny found hope in God and now he shares that hope through his music and non-profit, Sophia’s Heart.
I Am They | l @IAMTHEY Provident Label Group
How often do we take time to reflect on the reality of what God has done for us in salvation? With their first two singles, “Your Love is Mine” and “From the Day,” I Am They does just that by putting confessional lyrics of praise to energetic melodies that rekindle awe of what Jesus has accomplished for us. This six-member band is currently on tour with Matt Maher sharing their folksy sound of worship with audiences across the country. Their unique name is derived from John 17:16, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”
Lauren Daigle | l @Lauren_Daigle Centricit y Music
Louisiana-native Lauren Daigle has always had a song in her heart. As a little girl she would sing throughout the house and as a teenager, American Idol caught her eye. After auditioning for AI three times and having some success, she should have been thrilled right? Nope—instead, Lauren says that the most important thing she learned from her AI journey was that “if God is not involved, it’s just going to be empty.” Fueled by her convictions and blessed with a unique sound, Lauren gives voice to a powerful set of songs on her debut, How Can It Be.
NF | l @NFrealmusic Capitol CMG Label Group
Nate Feuerstein, performing as NF, has lived through things you wouldn’t wish on anyone but instead of wallowing in pity, he has turned his real life struggles into really good music that people can relate to. As he recounts in his song, “Notepad,” NF turned to writing rhymes as an escape and continued to perfect his craft with countless hours freestyling after school and rapping over instrumentals with his karaoke machine and instrumental CDs. NF is currently touring with 2014 New Artist of the Year nominee, Capital Kings and DJ Promote.

Song Year
MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard says he grew up feeling that there was always something else he had to do to gain God’s approval until he discovered that Jesus Christ has already done it all! Christians hold to this revelation to power through the enemy’s constant accusations that we’re not “holy, righteous and redeemed.” “Greater” is a fun, upbeat reminder of our victory
Danny Gokey reminds us that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. You see the bright smile, beautiful family and #1 hit-song, “Hope in Front of Me.” What you don’t see is that Gokey, at age 28, had to bury his first wife who died from complications during surgery. You may not know that prior to his third-place finish on American Idol, Gokey drove an 18-wheeler while serving as a worship director at his church. This song shares the fortitude and faith that has kept Gokey going.
“Come As You Are”
“He Knows My Name”
“How Can It Be”
After 15+ years with the David Crowder*Band, fans were glad to learn that David Crowder would continue to make music as a solo artist. “Come As You Are,” from his solo effort, Neon Steeple, originated in a writing session with Matt Maher where the two men discussed the 1831 hymn, “Come Ye Disconsolate.” Crowder was drawn to the big idea that any and every one can find rest in the arms of Jesus and gives voice to that truth in a powerful way through this song.
Francesca Battistelli’s “He Knows My Name” lights the way to hope, love and acceptance for a generation of young people struggling to define their identity and see their value. In counter-cultural defiance, Battistelli declares, “I don’t need my name in lights; I’m famous in my Father’s eyes.” So long to performing for the acceptance of others— Battistelli’s song encourages us to live before an audience of One!
In one of the most poignant pictures of grace, Jesus stoops down to defend a woman caught in the act of adultery from pious teachers of the law who stand ready to mete out the full penalty of her sin. How must that woman have felt in that moment? This song masterfully captures the emotion of the moment: “You plead my cause; You right my wrongs...You say that I am free; How can it be!” Newcomer Lauren Daigle nails it!

Overwhelmed”
“Thrive”
Mike Weaver must have the most heavenly man-cave! Similar to his anthem, “Redeemed,” this song also started out as a simple expression of worship in the mancave but something was different this time. Weaver says the Lord impressed upon him to reach out to a complete stranger to help him finish the song—enter Phil Wickham. A day before their Skype writing session, Mike sent Phil the chorus and bridge ideas on his iPhone and the next day, Phil had all the verses ready to go!
Casting Crowns has done it again. The chart-topping band’s latest album introduced a new tapestry of songs that speak right to the heart of the everyday lives of Believers. The title track, “Thrive” gives voice to the silent scream inside that tells us, “There’s got to be more!” Then, the song goes farther by directing us to the only source that can quench our thirst, “Into Your Word, we’re digging deep.” This is Casting Crowns at its best.
“Multiplied”
“This Is Amazing Grace”
“We Believe”
From the high of touring with Taylor Swift and singing to thousands each night to the lows of backstage beef and sibling rivalry, NEEDTOBREATHE has come out on the other side of adversity to share the sound of thanksgiving and victory on the standout track, “Multiplied,” and triumph sounds like this: “God of mercy sweet love of mine; I have surrendered to Your design; May this offering stretch across the skies; And these Hallelujahs be multiplied.” Bear’s powerful and personal lead vocal drive this song home.
This is a song about the greatness of God shown in His power over sin, His unfailing love and His amazing grace. Originally written by a rocker (Josh Farro) and a preacher’s kid (Phil Wickham), the song got a new set of verses when it made its way to a Bethel Music conference on someone’s cell phone and into the hands of Bethel worship leader, Jeremy Riddle. This recording by Phil Wickham is filled with energy and has been sung in thousands of churches across the world.
As our world becomes increasingly polarized, Christians are pressured to find a nebulous middle ground lest we seem too extreme. Unwittingly, we can fall into the trap of becoming so politically correct that the world around us has no idea where we stand. “We Believe” is a bold declaration and theological tour de force that clearly articulates key tenets of the Christian faith and allows singers to connect to the crux of our faith in a powerful way.

“Flaws”
Written by Dianne Warren; Performed by Kierra Sheard on Graceland
In our era of social media comments and mentions, it is easy to become overly critical of others and ourselves. With honesty and transparency, Kierra Sheard delivers a tailored and powerful vocal performance of this Dianne Warren (Beyonce, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston) original. In addition to being a perennial Gospel favorite, Kierra also joined the cast of the top-rated BET singing competition, “Sunday Best” as a celebrity judge in Season 7.

No one can accuse Erica Campbell of not going all out to reach people with her music. The trendsetting Gospel star has flourished since launching her solo career in 2014 after a historic run as half of the Mary Mary duo. Earlier this year, she released Help 2.0, with remixes from her debut solo album and a few new songs including the infectious, “I Luh God”—think Lil’ Jon meets John the Baptist! It’s worship set to trap music and lots of fun!
“Say Yes (ft. Beyonce & Kelly Rowland)”
Written by Harmony Samuels, Michelle Williams, H.”Carmen Reece” Culver, Al Sherrod Lambert; Performed by Michelle Williams on Journey to Freedom
Anytime Michelle, Kelly and Beyonce get together, it’s bound to make headlines. The ladies of Destiny’s Child reunited to create their upbeat take on the Nigerian song, “When Jesus Say Yes” produced by Harmony Samuels, himself of Nigerian heritage. The song’s lyrics encourage listeners to let go of worry and grasp hold of the greatness of God. “Say Yes” has been the backdrop to happy dancers around the world with nearly 20 million views on YouTube alone.
“No Greater Love”
“Worth Fighting For”
Smokie Norful lends his soulful voice to the greatest love story ever told in this beautiful track from his seventh album, Forever Yours. The song has been a mainstay on Gospel radio and already received a 2015 GRAMMY for “Best Gospel Performance/ Song.” In addition to his active music ministry, Smokie is the founder and pastor of a local church outside Chicago which celebrated 10 years in 2015!
Hard times can cause us to lose sight of what matters most but in this encouraging ballad, Brian Courtney Wilson reminds us that God fought for us and that our future is “worth fighting for.” The single has enjoyed time at #1 on the Mediabase Gospel chart and inspired the #WeAreWorthFightingFor campaign to affirm the God-given worth of every life in the wake of civil unrest following controversial police actions in African American communities across the country.

“Forever (We Sing Hallelujah)”
“Holy Spirit”
Worship
Song Year
“If Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless…” Built on this essential truth from Scripture, this song leads listeners on a journey from Good Friday to Resurrection Sunday ending in the triumphant chorus, “Forever He is glorified; Forever He is lifted high; Forever He is risen; He is alive! He is alive!” Recorded live in Dallas, TX, this song brings congregations across the world into worship based on the realization that The Lamb has overcome.
After leading this song in a worship service, Francesca Battistelli says she knew she had to record it for her album. Penned by Bethel Music standouts, Bryan and Katie Torwalt, this song of welcome invites God, the Holy Spirit, to fill our hearts with His manifest presence. The “CCLI Top 100” lists this song among the most popular songs being sung in churches today. “Holy Spirit You are welcome here; Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere...” Amen.
“Because He Lives (Amen)”
“Great Are You Lord”
“This Is Amazing Grace”
In an altogether wonderful blend of yesterday and today, this song incorporates Bill Gaither’s timeless affirmation, “Because He lives I can face tomorrow,” with modern instrumentation and a fresh set of lyrics to fill a new generation of worshippers with the hope of every generation of Christians. With help from a bevy of talented co-writers, Matt Maher continues to introduce new standards to the church with “Because He Lives (Amen).”
“You give life; You are love; You bring light to the darkness…” So begins this anthem of worship composed by All Sons & Daughters bandmates, Leslie Jordan and David Leonard along with co-writer Jason Ingram. The song goes on to remind worshippers that our every breath is a gift from God that we should rightly give back to Him alone in worship. In addition to their ministry with AS&D, Jordan and Leonard continue to serve as worship leaders at their church in Franklin, TN.
Sometimes a song comes right away; other times it takes a while. This song began several years ago between Phil Wickham and Josh Farro. Eventually, Jeremy Riddle heard it and drafted new verses. The collaborative result is Billboard’s #1 Christian Airplay Song of 2014, Mediabase’s #1 Christian AC song of 2014 and CCLI’s current #2 song among churches. The lyrics drive home foundational truths of the Faith over a rocking rhythm section and energetic vocal delivery.

Album Year of the
Love Ran Red
RUN WILD. LIVE FREE. LOVE STRONG.
Saints and Sinners
When you’re the most sung songwriter on the planet, you could just rest on your laurels and hang it up but not if you’re Chris Tomlin. Tomlin’s passion compels his latest offering and adds to the modern hymnal of worship that is his discography. Love Ran Red is immediately familiar and effective in leading listeners into God’s presence due to its vertical anthems of worship and singable melodies. Love Ran Red debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Christian albums chart.
for KING & COUNTRY follows up their critically-acclaimed debut with this equally excellent sophomore project. The first two singles, “Fix My Eyes” and “Shoulders” have been among the most played songs on Christian radio this year. Brothers Joel and Luke say this album is more of a reflection and response to some of the defining moments the brothers have experienced in their personal lives over the last few years.
How is it that God uses flawed people like you and I to share the hope of Jesus with the world? Matt Maher’s new album beautifully expounds upon the answer in song after song on this meticulously executed collection of songs where every instrumentation and harmony seems perfectly placed. Maher is a songwriter’s songwriter and his gift of finding words to express complex feelings and deep truth is on display here.

Lead Us Back: Songs of Worship
In his own words, David Crowder describes his first solo effort thusly: “Neon Steeple is a collection of songs and sounds looking forward to the past and counting the present as sacred.” With the same introspection and poetic descriptiveness that have become hallmarks of his music, Crowder offers up 12 songs that act as a neon steeple pointing listeners up to God. Neon Steeple debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Christian albums chart.
With an original sound and soulful stylings all her own, Lauren Daigle has added a new musical texture to the Christian music scene. Her songwriting tells the story of a young woman who has been captivated by the power of God’s grace. The title track, “How Can It Be” has been played 34,000 times in 2015, placing it in the Top 15 songs at Christian radio this year. How Can It Be debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Christian albums chart.
Lead singer Mac Powell has one of the most recognizable voices in all of Christian music. On Lead Us Back: Songs of Worship he uses it to lift up vertical songs of worship including the most played song on Christian radio this year, “Soul on Fire,” which has been played nearly 60,000 in 2015. Band members say worship music has always been part of their lives shows but were excited to be able to focus on it exclusively for this record and the supporting tour. Lead Us Back debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Christian albums chart.

Songs in the Key of Happy
Pray Now
Album Year
The Goodman musical legacy started 65 years ago with The Happy Goodman Family band. Over the years, various members of the family have lifted up their voices to sing praises to the Lord with tender affections and sincere enthusiasm. The latest installment to this rich heritage is the newly formed Goodman Revival, which includes Tanya Goodman Sykes, Michael Sykes, a former member of the Happy Goodmans’ band and longtime Happy Goodmans member Johnny Minick.
When Karen Peck’s power-packed soprano is in the house, you’ll know it! Since 1991, Karen & New River have released over 20 albums, each with a blend of toe-tappin’ Southern Gospel mixed with tender ballads. In fact, their song “Revival” won the 2014 GMA Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year. This album’s title cut, “Pray Now” reminds us to seek the Lord even when times are tough.

Living in Harmony
After working at something for 30 years, most people are looking for a way to retire. Not Bill Gaither! Gaither continues to build upon the legacy of the standard-bearing, Gaither Vocal Band. On this, their 31st album, two new members, baritone, Todd Suttles and new lead singer, Adam Crabb, formerly of The Crabb Family join mainstays Bill Gaither, David Phelps and Wes Hampton. The result is much the same as every other GVB lineup—tight harmonies, powerful lyrics and great music!
Ivan Parker grew up as a preacher’s kid in Broadway, NC as one of a large family of singers. Since then, he has continued singing Gospel music on over 40 albums as a group member, a solo artist and a regular on the Gaither Homecoming series. His latest solo release features his smooth tenor encouraging listeners to see God’s mercy in their lives on standout tunes such as “Silent Prayer” and “How Much Longer.”
Triumphant deftly melds overtones of country into their traditional Southern Gospel quartet sound on this latest project. Listeners will appreciate the intricate fourpart harmonies and crisp instrumentation under the hand of producer, Wayne Haun especially on the standout track, “When He Reached His Hand Down for Me.” In a genre where group members change often, Triumphant stands apart having had only one line up change in their 13-year existence.

Left Behind
The Song
Veteran actor, Nicholas Cage takes on the lead role in this reboot of the genredefining Left Behind series. Cage plays Rayford Steele, a pilot with marital issues at home and a crisis in the skies when many of his passengers including all of the children on board suddenly disappear. Steele comes to learn that this phenomenon of missing persons has occurred worldwide and in his search for answers discovers the causal link of faith among those who were taken. Released in the U.S. and abroad, the film has taken in nearly $20 million.
If you had more money; if you were more important; if you could have whatever or whoever you wanted—would that make your life better. Jed King is about to discover the hard way what King Solomon discovered nearly 3,000 years ago. In a modern retelling of the Song of Solomon, Jed King, played by Alan Powell, discovers his true love and muse, Rose. A special song written just for her propels him to stardom and grants him access to everything his heart desires only to reach the same conclusion as Solomon did.
Mom’s Night Out
When The Game Stands Tall
Moms are often overworked and underappreciated but this feel-good movie helps audiences have a few laughs while reminding us how special mothers (and fathers) are. In the film, Allyson, played by Sarah Drew, is overwhelmed and exhausted. To recharge, she plans a relaxing night out with two friends. As you can guess, things don’t go as planned but in all the chaos, the ladies and the families who love them gain renewed appreciation for what really matters. The film opened to over 1,000 theaters and has grossed over $10 million.
After a 151-game winning streak ends, La Salle High’s football team is left reeling and in search of their identity. How will they pick up the pieces? With direction from God’s Word, head coach, Bob Ladouceur (Jim Caviezel) helps these young men turn a moment of defeat into a lifelong lesson in character. “When the Game Stands Tall” is based on the true story of the La Salle High Spartans in Concord, CA. The film grossed more than $30 million at the box office.
