Little Miss Black US Of A By Miss Ericka J This past summer Princesses came from all over to the DMV for this awesome pageant founded by Baltimore’s Own Letricia Loftin Russell reigning beauty pageant Queen, who was inspired to do this in honor of her late sister Stacy Loftin and her late daughter Braxton. After two tragic major losses, Letricia sought God for a way to honor the life and legacy of two very important people near and dear to her heart. Recognizing there ultimately was a purpose for her pain and that this would be a mainstream kingdom move to utilize her experiences and education in pageantry to make a deposit into the culture of our young black princesses. The Little Miss Black US Of A pageant celebrates black beauty, black brilliance, black legacy, and black excellence. The young ladies that come to be a part of the pageant have many gifts from starting their own movements in politics and culture. They give back to their communities, they are active in their churches, while also thriving in the arts, dance, cheerleading, music, and science. Learning and growing in the pageant arena plants the seed of sisterhood early on, not only for the contestants but it also builds and strengthens the mothers and even the dads that accompany their children on this journey. Pageant Boot Camps are held monthly that not only prepare them for the competition, but they are for overall character building, grooming, finance, social graces, community service, modelling, etiquette, interview skills and more. The pageant is currently accepting applications now ages 2-14, the categories are broken into age brackets for each level. I have been able to witness this awesome venture and it’s much needed and I’m looking forward to 2024.
