Obituary

M

arie Samene Eugene was born to Elifis and Marcia Joseph on February 21, 1938 in a ville called Palmiste a’ Vin located in Leogane, Haiti. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in 1950. She married the love of her life, Sénat Occelus on April of 1972. In March of 1985 she emigrated to the United States searching for a better life. She lived in Brooklyn, New York until her family chose Miami, Florida as their permanent home in 1992. As a strong, courageous, independent, intelligent woman, she worked arduously as a babysitter and housekeeper for many years. Her love for children radiated at all times. She was a strong believer in family and maintained a close relationship with her siblings. This joy led her to help her brother, Elve, raise his three children....Gabrielle, Mario and Debbie. She was her happiest when selflessly caring for others. Many grew to love and respect her, friends and family alike. Samene found her church family, Pentecostal Church of Miami, lead by Rev. Wilner and Naomie Prudent. As a devoted member of Siloe, Samene served the church faithfully through ministry. She participated in the Ladies Choir, Women’s Usher Board, Housekeeping ministry and was a member of Sunday school (class Deborah). She also loved participating in fellowship activities. We can always recall her saying “Ki moun ki pral peye pou mwen ale nan Holyland?” She loved her church and vowed to never leave until God call her home. In March of 2000, she was diagnosed with cancer. She underwent chemotherapy, a single mastectomy and went through remission. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in 2015. Throughout this journey she always remained positive, trusting that God was in control. She used the

joy of the Lord to help her find strength; certainly that strength came from her close relationship with God. Although cancer ravaged her body it could not touch her soul. Despite the excruciating pain she endured daily it did not deter her from praying and singing the Fathers praises until he called her home at the age of 81. Samene’s life testimony was “To trust in the Lord, surrender to him in all things, and you will see his grace, mercy, and favor manifested in your life.” Samene has gone home to her Father but we can rest assured knowing that she has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept her faith and the crown of righteousness awaits her. Her memory will be kept alive by her Brothers: Elve with wife Odette, Laurore, Carlo, Henry, Astre, Lovee and Marcel; Sister: Louisana; Nephews and Nieces: Astride, Jodens, Kerline, JohnRony, Yvette, Herby, Iverson, Nathalie, Gabrielle, Mario, Ruchama, Debbie and Saul; Great Nieces and Nephews: Saul Jr, Iverson, Noah, Micheal, Pamela, Sara and Altagrace; She is remembered with love by Marie Cyrus, Mathilde and Yaya, Class Deborah and the entire family at Pentecostal Church of Miami. She will never be forgotten and her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.
