Riccardo Esposito. Born in Capri. He has founded and runs, with his wife Ausilia Veneruso, the La Conchiglia Editions which counts more than two-hundred titles which among many are dedicated to history and literature of the island. Expert in the history of Capri, is author of Delle Isole, dell”Isola–theoretic-practical guide for the use of navigators.

Ausilia Veneruso, è nata a Capri e ha realizzato, dal 1982, quattro librerie che gestisce tra Capri, Anacapri e Roma. Ha creato, insieme al marito Riccardo Esposito, le Edizioni La Conchiglia e l’omonima Associazione Culturale che organizza, ogni anno, incontri letterari e manifestazioni culturali.

Ausilia Veneruso, was born in Capri and has created, from 1982, four book stores which she runs between Capri, Anacapri and Rome. She has realized, together with her husband Riccardo Esposito, the La Conchiglia Editions and the homonymous Cultural Association which organizes, each year, book presentations and cultural manifestations.

What are you doing at the moment?

I’m on the set of Un Posto al Sole and taping a television series, which I’ll reveal some time soon.

An encounter that changed your life?

It is no-doubt the one with the producers of Un Posto al Sole back in 1996. I was 16 and that’s when my acting career began.

Television is a great invention if used for positive purposes. I watch lots of documentaries and talent shows.

When did you understand this would become your work?

As a child I would dream of becoming a fashion designer.

But after doing an audition just for fun I began working as an actress, and day by day I fell in love with acting.

What is the greatest satisfaction you’ve had?

It’s feeling rewarded by the roles I play and receiving affection from the people I meet on the street. Not letting the audience down gives me a lift and motivates me to put my heart into my work.

What inspires you about Capri?

The undeniable charm of its landscapes. When I set foot on the island, I am filled with positive energy. There’s magic in the air. What’s more, Capri was our romantic getaway when my husband and I weren’t married yet.

She made her debut at a very young age in the soap opera Un Posto al Sole (A Place in the Sun), in the role of Angela Poggi. Un incontro che le ha cambiato la vita?

Con i produttori di Un posto al sole avvenuto nel 1996. Allora avevo 16 anni e da lì ho intrapreso la mia carriera di attrice. La televisione è un’ottima invenzione se usata per buoni scopi. Io guardo molti film documentari e talent show.

Quando ha capito che questo sarebbe diventato il suo lavoro?

Da bambina sognavo di diventare stilista, ma poi dopo un provino fatto per gioco ho iniziato a lavorare come attrice e man mano che vivevo il set mi sono innamorata di questo mestiere.

La soddisfazione più grande che ha provato?

La soddisfazione più grande è ricevere affetto e gratificazione per i ruoli che interpreto dalle persone che incontro per strada, Non deludere il pubblico mi dà la carica e spinge a dare il massimo nelle mie interpretazioni.

Cosa la lega a Capri?

La bellezza paesaggistica di Capri è indiscutibile e quando metto piede sull’isola mi sento inondata di energia positiva, si respira un’aria magica. E poi a Capri ho i ricordi delle mie prime fughe d’amore con mio marito.

What does Il Faro mean to you?

It’s where I grew up and where I constructed my image. I’ve always come to this place ever since I was a child. And it became my home after my father, Ercole, a developer born in Anacapri, built Il Faro in 1970.

What do you try to transmit to your customers?

My passion and my desire to improve everything I do.

What is a customer looking for when they come to Il Faro to spend a day at the beach?

Besides the sun, the sea and the magical sunset, I’d say peacefulness and the friendliness with which we welcome our customers.

Which is the oddest request you’ve received from a customer?

I’ve had many and diverse. But, a few years ago we transformed the restaurant into a Nikki Beach to celebrate a birthday. That was unusual for our island.

Plans for the future?

I’d like to continue working on growth and making the restaurant even more exclusive, welcoming and inspiring; and our dishes yet more attractive and delectable, with the contribution of our executive chef, Marco Russo.

What are your passions and interests when you’re not working?

Soccer. I’m the president of a sports association that also runs a soccer school attended by many youths. I’d like to give my contribution to their growth, because I think sports are fundamental in their life.

Cosa rappresenta per te Il Faro?

Il posto dove sono cresciuto, e dove ho costruito la mia immagine.

Ho sempre frequentato questo posto sin da bambino, e da quando mio padre Ercole, costruttore anacaprese, nel 1970 lo costruì, è diventato la mia casa.

Cosa cerchi di trasmettere ai tuoi clienti?

La mia passione per questo e la mia voglia di migliorare in ogni cosa che faccio.

Cosa cerca chi sceglie Il Faro per trascorrere una giornata di mare?

Oltre al sole, al mare e al magico tramonto, la tranquillità e la familiarità con cui noi e il nostro staff accogliamo i clienti.

Qual è la richiesta più strana che ti è stata fatta da un cliente?

Ne ho avute tante e diverse, ma qualche anno fa per un compleanno abbiamo trasformato il locale come il Nikki beach, richiesta inusuale per la nostra isola.

Progetti per il futuro?

Continuare il progetto di crescita, rendere il locale ancora più esclusivo, accogliente e d’ispirazione e la nostra cucina ancora più ricercata grazie all’aiuto del nostro Executive Chef, Marco Russo.

Quali sono le tue passioni e i tuoi interessi quando non lavori?

Il calcio, sono presidente di un’associazione sportiva che ha anche una scuola calcio con molti ragazzi, voglio dare il mio contributo alla loro crescita, perché ritengo che lo sport sia fondamentale nella loro vita.

How did you become passionate about fashion?

I began just for fun. I remembered when I was a little girl and my mother would buy me little bathing suits made of cotton on the island of Capri, in a tiny shop at the end of Via delle Botteghe, or when we’d go to Positano for a few days. I thought today’s children too should have them, so I gave it a try.

What would you like to express with your creations?

My bathing suits are completely handmade. I choose the fabric patterns imagining how well the colors will go together. It all reflects my tastes. I tried to make my brand easily recognizable and I must say that I’ve had great feedback.

From a professional standpoint, what’s the most exciting thing that’s happened to you so far?

Last year, when I began this adventure – it was in the month of May, by the way -, I sold 312 bathing suits. For something created just for fun, I was excited beyond words. It encouraged me to design the brand and make it my second job.

Is there an encounter that changed your life?

Certainly the one with my husband Roberto. We had been close friends for decades then we became life companions three years ago. He puts up with me, but supports me in everything I do. He’s also one of my best representatives. We are now expecting Lorenzo, who is due in October and will become a model, just like his father.

Come è nata la tua passione per la moda?

Ho iniziato per gioco, ricordando quando da piccola mia madre mi comprava sia a Capri, in un piccolo negozio alla fine di via delle Botteghe, sia quando andavamo qualche giorno a Positano, i costumini di cotone.. Ho pensato che anche i bambini di oggi dovevano averli e quindi ci ho provato.

Cosa vuoi esprimere con le tue creazioni?

I miei costumi sono tutti completamente fatti a mano, le fantasie le scelgo immaginando gli abbinamenti dei colori, rispecchia tutto molto il mio gusto, ho cercato di dare al marchio un’impronta facilmente riconoscibile, e devo dire la verità ho avuto degli ottimi feedback.

L’emozione più grande che hai provato in questo lavoro?

L’anno scorso che è stato il primo anno che ho iniziato questa avventura ho venduto 312 costumi. Per una cosa nata per gioco è stata un’emozione indescrivibile che poi, mi ha dato l’input per creare il marchio e farlo diventare un secondo lavoro.

C’è un incontro che ti ha cambiato la vita?

Sicuramente quello con mio marito Roberto, mio carissimo amico da decenni e da tre mio compagno di vita. Mi sopporta e supporta in tutto, tra l’altro è anche uno dei miei migliori testimonial. Ora aspettiamo Lorenzo che nascerà ad ottobre e che affiancherà il suo papà come modello.

Your first time in Capri?

In 1950. My mother didn’t want me to go to Capri. She was worried about the habits of the people who hung out on the island.

What do you mean?

Before and after WWII foreigners and habitués to the island led an eccentric lifestyle, but those were the days when Capri was at its most beautiful.

What did you find in 1950?

When I arrived in Capri I found the tail end of that lifestyle. Fantastic people who lived in beautiful villas, who partied at night and went dancing in the nightclubs. It was like always being at the theatre. A show.

What were your favourite hangouts?

We spent our days at sea coming ashore at the Faraglioni, La Fontelina or La Canzone del Mare. At night, when we weren’t at someone’s villa, we would go to Giuliano at the Faraglioni, La Capannina or Aurora.

When did it all change?

In the Seventies the big Mare Moda runways were an amazing time, but they lost their significance as Venice Film Festival become more established. At the same time, people who had never set foot on the island, because they had considered it out of place due to the eccentric folk who lived there, began to frequent it. Moreover, the major privately owned real estate was sold and converted into smaller properties. It really changed Capri, closing a chapter once and for all.

Wolf Chitis, but everyone calls him Volia, is an engineer and entrepreneur. Born in Naples, he has Moldavian in his blood on his father’s side, from Bessarabia to be precise, and Pugliese from his mother. La prima volta a Capri?

Era il 1950. Mia madre non voleva farmi frequentare Capri. Era preoccupata dalle abitudini delle persone che frequentavano l’isola.

A cosa si riferisce?

Tra il periodo precedente la seconda guerra mondiale e quello successivo, i turisti stranieri e gli habitué vivevano in maniera eccentrica, ma è stata la Capri più bella mai vista.

Lei cosa ha trovato nel 1950?

Quando sono arrivato io ho trovato la coda di quella vita. Gente fantastica che viveva nelle case, faceva party la sera e poi andava a ballare nei night. Sembrava sempre di essere a teatro. Uno spettacolo.

Quali erano i posti preferiti?

Durante il giorno si usciva in barca, per poi scendere a terra, ai Faraglioni, a La Fontelina o a La Canzone del Mare. La sera, quando non ci si riuniva nelle case si andava da Giuliano ai Faraglioni, a La Capannina e da Aurora.

Quando è cambiato lo scenario?

Negli anni ’70 le grandi sfilate di Maremoda erano un momento fantastico, che venne meno con l’affermarsi del Festival di Venezia. Contestualmente persone che non avevano mai messo piede sull’isola, perché si sarebbero trovate fuori luogo per l’eccentricità della gente che c’era, hanno iniziato a frequentarla. In più le grandi proprietà private sono state vendute e trasformate in porzioni più piccole. Questo ha cambiato sostanzialmente Capri e ha chiuso definitivamente un capitolo.

Your latest project?

I recently lent my face to Fay’s ‘Double Life’ campaign. For me, these opportunities are like a game, because I meet interesting people and they lead to intriguing situations.

What do you like about your work?

I enjoy focusing on the contents, meaning the editorial part of a project.

But, it’s also important to be familiar with the dynamics of a production, which I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about in this experience.

What did X Factor bring to your professional life?

Working on X Factor was very demanding, but I also learned a great deal. It’s a perfect blend of creativity and production work, and it was fascinating to see how these two worlds manage to draw from each other. I met many artists from the musical scene and it was great to see them at work.

What was the most exciting moment?

Watching Francesco De Gregori rehearse ‘La donna cannone’ on stage.

It was like being at a private concert. He offered us an extraordinary experience. Generosity is a huge and rare gift in an artist.

What does Capri mean to you?

It’s a perfect picture. A work of art with a unique fragrance. I adore wandering along its narrow streets while savoring an ice cream from Buonocore, rushing towards La Fontelina, having an aperitif in the piazzetta, eating a ‘pizza all’acqua’ at Aurora and finishing up the evening at Bar Alberto, after stopping by at the Taverna.

Virginia Valsecchi. 22 anni, lavora sia davanti che dietro la telecamera. Negli ultimi due anni ha lavorato sui set di produzioni televisive, serie tv e reality show come X Factor. A 18 anni ha lasciato Roma, ha preso una laurea in lettere a Milano e ha vissuto tra Milano, Parigi e ora è appena rientrata da Los Angeles 30 Capri | The Divine Coast

Il suo ultimo impegno?

Di recente ho prestato il volto per l’ultima campagna Double Life di Fay: queste occasioni per me sono un gioco dove incontro persone interessanti e nascono situazioni divertenti.

Cosa le piace del suo lavoro?

Mi piace lavorare molto sui contenuti ovvero la parte editoriale dei progetti, ma è anche importante sapersi gestire e conoscere bene le dinamiche della produzione.

Cosa le ha lasciato X Factor?

Lavorare per X Factor è stato molto impegnativo ma allo stesso tempo ho imparato tantissimo, è un mix perfetto di creatività e produzione ed è stato interessante vedere come questi due mondi trovino sinergie, sul set ho incontrato molti artisti della scena musicale ed è stato molto bello vederli lavorare.

Il momento più emozionante?

Vedere De Gregori che provava sul palco “La donna cannone” , è stato come vivere un concerto privato. Ha regalato a tutti noi una grande emozione. La generosità di un artista è una grande e rara dote.

Cosa rappresenta Capri?

Il connubio perfetto, un’opera d’arte dal profumo unico. Adoro perdermi tra i suoi vicoli con un gelato di Buonocore, correre verso la Fontelina, prendermi un aperitivo in piazzetta, mangiare una pizza all’acqua da Aurora e concludere la nottata al bar Alberto dopo un giro in Taverna.

Every season has its typical literary genre. What could be better to distract your mind from the heat of summer under a beach umbrella than a gripping mystery novel? In Italy, they go by the name of giallo, from the traditional yellow color of the paperback covers for this genre. Here are the suggestions from the La Conchiglia bookshop in Capri.

La collera di Napoli (Mondadori)

Aniston’s role was inspired by her friend and fellow-actress Stacy Courtney, who worked as a stunt-woman until she was involved in a serious accident, which required her to undergo multiple surgery. She now suffers from chronic pain, but she never surrendered to it and worked as stunt coordinator in Cake.

It was not an easy role to play: a woman in pain, depressed, wearing no make-up. What made you decide to play such a role?

That is where Peppino comes home to, to relax surrounded by the love of his wife Giuliana, of his children Dario and Edoardo and grand-daughter Guia, the daughter of Edoardo and Leila Augusto.

Where are you coming back from?

I just came back from Buenos Aires. I was there for a few days to celebrate the Republic’s Day, an event strongly promoted by Teresa Castaldo, the Italian ambassadress to Argentina.

What have you been up to the past year?

In addition to the many shows I did, I’ve been busy writing two new songs, besides My Grey Hair, and working on the set of Natale col boss, the film I played a role in, which was released at the end of 2015.

A role that such a versatile artist like you was not afraid to play and which was very well-received by critics and public alike and gained you a nomination for the Nastro d’Argento award as Best Supporting Actor. Did you expect it?

No, I didn’t expect the nomination, nor did I expect to win. But it was a very fun experience and I earned a whole new bunch of fans, a lot of teenagers asking me for a selfie with the “Boss”.

The film’s cast includes Paolo Ruffini, who will be here in Capri in late July.

Paolo will be here on the island for the show, which will be held on July 30, and I’m sure that we will be able to recreate on the Certosa’s stage the mutual liking and camaraderie we developed on the set.

Da dove sta venendo?

Sono appena rientrato da Buenos Aires. Sono volato li per qualche giorno per la festa della repubblica, un’esibizione fortemente voluta da Teresa Castaldo, ambasciatrice italiana in Argentina.

Come ha passato l’ultimo anno?

Oltre le tante serate durante l’ultimo anno sono stato alle prese con la realizzazione di altri due brani nuovi, oltre I miei capelli bianchi, e con l’impegno sul set cinematografico per le riprese di Natale col boss, uscito con successo nelle sale a fine 2015.

Un ruolo nuovo, che non ha spaventato un artista poliedrico che si è messo in gioco in un settore non suo e che ha riscosso grande successo di pubblico e critica, culminati nella nomination al Nastro d’Argento come migliore attore non protagonista.

Se l’aspettava?

La nomination no, ne tantomeno speravo di vincere però questa esperienza mi ha divertito molto e mi ha permesso di acquisire una nuova fascia di ammiratori, tanti adolescenti che chiedono di fare un selfie col boss.

Nel cast c’era anche Paolo Ruffini, che a fine luglio sarà qui a Capri.

Some pictures of the singer at work and at the age of four show includes a performance of the brilliant actor and TV host from Livorno Paolo Ruffini. A great event, which opens Capri’s summer season at the Certosa.

What else will you be doing this summer?

I will be doing a lot of shows, as usual. In addition to the show on July 30 at the Certosa, I’m looking forward to the event held on August 14 at Villa Bertelli in Forte dei Marmi, where I will be performing with Gino Paoli.

Two great performers taking turns on the stage, two giants of Italian pop music, two friends having conflicting characters but the same relentless taste for performing live. A concert unique of its kind, which brings them together on the same stage for the first time in Italy. We have no doubt that Forte dei Marmi will be brought back to the splendor of Versilia’s most glorious music season, which made it known the world over as the symbol of Italian summer vacationing, when the two of them performed at all the Coast’s most popular clubs.

Let’s go back to your three recently-released songs, which are already available on iTunes and on all main online platforms. How would you describe them?

My Grey Hair, my five-hundredth song, is a “tear-jerker”, with the music reflecting the lyrics perfectly. Anche se and Sogno di una sera are songs with a deep Mediterranean sound. In particular, Sogno di una sera has been produced by Edoardo Faiella, Peppino’s son and member of the Achtung Babies, a famous U2 cover band, which arranged the songs and played all the instruments. Peppino took the liberty of composing a rock song, the same liberty he took with the twist at the beginning of his career. The cutting is by Greg Calbi, Senior Mastering Engineer from New York’s Sterling Sound.

Is this the first time you’ve been collaborating with one of your children?

Edoardo is the only musician among my children. Igor is an entrepreneur working abroad and Dario is an actor, but he spends the whole summer in Capri where he runs several businesses, including a Concierge and Event Services company, which allows customers to enjoy Capri to the fullest and allows him to pass on to his customers, who often become friends, his love of Capri. Edoardo and I share a musical feeling, he also conducted the orchestra on my Magnifique tour. We performed together at Italy’s major theaters and he played his guitar for the recording of several songs, including the score of the Capri series and Capri Song. Capri Song is a tribute to the island, composed with the collaboration of Peppino’s friend Paolo Fiorillo.

The lyrics are by the great Mogol.

Quali altri impegni l’attendono in estate?

Tante serate in giro come sempre, oltre quella del 30 luglio alla Certosa aspetto con piacere quella del 14 agosto a Villa Bertelli di Forte dei Marmi dove ci esibiremo insieme Gino Paoli ed io.

Un recital con due artisti che si avvicendano sul palco, due colossi della musica leggera italiana, amici dai caratteri opposti ma con la stessa voglia di continuare a stupire. Un concerto unico in Italia, che per la prima volta li porta sullo stesso palco. Siamo sicuri che Forte dei Marmi rivivrà il fasto della Versilia musicale, quello che l’ha resa nota nel mondo come simbolo delle vacanze italiane, quando nei locali si alternavano loro due.

Ma torniamo agli ultimi tre brani usciti di recente e già disponibili su itunes e tutte le principali piattaforme online. Come li descriverebbe?

I miei capelli bianchi, la mia cinquecentesima canzone, è un brano strappacore, con sonorità che rispecchiano il testo della canzone. Anche se e Sogno di una sera sono brani con una forte sonorità mediterranea.

In particolare Sogno di una sera è stato prodotto da Edoardo Faiella, figlio di Peppino e membro degli Achtung Babies, famosa cover band degli U2, cha ha arrangiato e suonato tutti gli strumenti. È un pezzo rock osato da Peppino, che si è concesso una licenza musicale, un po’ come quando da ragazzo osava col twist. Il cutting è di Greg Calbi, Senior Mastering Engineer della Sterling Sound di New York. È la prima volta che collabora con uno dei suoi figli?

Tra i miei figli solo Edoardo è musicista. Igor è imprenditore all’estero e Dario ha scelto la carriera di attore, ma l’estate è sempre a Capri dove ha altre attività, tra cui una società di servizi Concierge e eventi che permette di far vivere al meglio l’isola a chi la sceglie e gli da modo di trasmettere ai clienti, che spesso diventano amici, il suo amore per Capri. Con Edoardo c’è feeling musicale, ha diretto la grande orchestra durante il tour Magnifique, che ha toccato i teatri più importanti d’Italia e ha prestato le sue chitarre in diverse realizzazioni, tra cui la sigla della fiction Capri e Capri Song.

Capri Song è un omaggio all’isola, creato in collaborazione con l’amico Paolo Fiorillo. Il testo è del grande Mogol.

What charm has more power to awaken your senses than a scent? What stories lie behind the veil of a fragrance? The Ferragamo family, one of the most famous fashion families in Italy, based in Florence since 1938, has a passion for perfume firmly written in their blood thanks to Wanda Ferragamo. The young widow of shoemaking legend Salvatore Ferragamo, Wanda was the silent yet steely force of the fortunes of one of the most solid high-end businesses in Italy. Her love of flowers and scents was never a secret, hence Wanda Ferragamo’s extraordinary private collection of perfumes. Her first bottle was sold in London in the Nineties with Wanda continuing to lead the company, helped by her children, after Salvatore’s death.

Twenty years later, we are deep in the countryside of fairytales, in the heart of Tuscany, at the Il Borro estate, guests of one of Wanda’s 29 grandchildren. One of the eldest and sharing his grandfather’s name, our host is Salvatore, who alongside his father Ferruccio (the group’s president since 2006), twenty years since that first perfume bottle bought by Harrods, converted this medieval village in the Tuscan Valdarno, not far from Arezzo, into a luxury destination affording every possible comfort and loved by tourists all over the world. Il Borro is an extraordinary farm, too: 700 hectares where oil and wine are produced, which regularly receive awards from leading international guides, plus a fascinating organic vegetable garden, now in its prime, aimed at local customers thanks to a home delivery service and featured on the menus of the estate’s restauranta. We’re here for a special occasion: the presentation, in perfect Ferragamo style, of two new fragrances in the high-end perfume line launched three years ago, titled “Tuscan Soul” and “Tuscan Scent”, part of the Quintessential Collection.

An anthology of scent for him and for her inspired by that marvellous Eden which with its beauty and traditions has always proven a source of creativity for Salvatore Ferragamo.

E’ Salvatore, che insieme al padre Ferruccio (presidente del Gruppo dal 2006), proprio nell’arco di questi venti anni trascorsi da quella prima bottiglia di profumo acquistata da Harrod’s, ha trasformato questo borgo medioevale nel Valdarno, alle porte di Arezzo, in una destinazione di lusso completa di ogni comfort e apprezzata dai turisti di tutto il mondo.

The Will and Death of Jacques Fersen] by Fausto Esposito is a pitiless, undoubtedly complex and, at times, disquieting portrait of someone who lived and suffered a choice of diversity in an ambiguous situation that was no longer land but not yet water, a borderline place of exile from which to depart again in the search for lost unity.

By consulting the will and various other documents never published previously, the author traces the silhouette of a personality who had, over the years, attracted contrasting and often misleading visions, but now surprises us with his humanity.

In this issue, we publish the moment of the opening of the baron’s will after his death by suicide in Villa Lysis, so named in reference to Lysis, Plato’s dialogue on the theme of friendship and, according to modern standards of judgement, homosexual love.

THE WILL The expressions of mourning and the comments of censure diffused the news of Fersen’s tragic death beyond the “Bocche” in nearby Sorrento. Aniello Paturzo, notary, was a fascinating middle-aged gentleman with a strict and severe character prone to study and meditation but also witty, ironic, caustic and perhaps even ingenious, and was the custodian of the Baron’s will, written by his own hand. He immediately contacted the mayor of Capri and the French consul in Naples on 10 November. He then invited the mother and sisters of the deceased Baron, and Nino Cesarini, to his study on the 16th of the same month for the publication of the will and testament. Only Cesarini participated in the opening procedure, accompanied with resigned indifference by the earls of Lovatelli. Neither the mother nor the sisters of the Baron went to the study in Sorrento but were informally represented by a functionary of the French embassy in Rome. Testamento e morte di Jacques Fersen di Fausto Esposito è un ritratto a volte inquietante, impietoso, certamente complesso di chi ha vissuto e sofferto la scelta della diversità in un lungo ambiguo non più terra e non ancora acqua, un luogo di confine e di esilio da cui poter ripartire alla ricerca di una unità perduta.

Attraverso la consultazione del testamento e di vari documenti, tutti inediti, l’autore ci delinea un personaggio su cui, negli anni, si sono addensate visioni opposte e spesso fuorvianti ma che sorprende per la sua umanità.

Pubblichiamo in queste pagine il testamento del barone, nei giorni che seguono la sua morte per suicidio in quella Villa Lysis così battezzata in riferimento a Liside, dialogo di Platone sul tema dell’amicizia e dell’amore omosessuale.

IL TESTAMENTO Le voci di compianto, i commenti di condanna spingono la notizia della morte tragica di Fersen, oltre le “ Bocche”, nella vicina Sorrento. Il notaio Aniello Paturzo, un affascinante gentiluomo di mezza età, rigoroso e severo, incline agli studi ed alla meditazione, tuttavia arguto, ironico, caustico e forse geniale, è depositarlo del testamento scritto di pugno dal Barone. Prende immediati contatti con il sindaco di Capri e con il console francese a Napoli, sin dal 10 novembre.

Invita, quindi, per il giorno 16, nel suo studio, la madre, le sorelle del defunto Barone, nonché Nino Cesarini, per la pubblica-zione della scheda testamentaria. Partecipa all’ instrumenturi; il solo Cesarini, assistito, con rassegnata indifferenza, dai conti Lovatelli.

Non vanno a Sorrento, nello studio, né la madre né le sorelle del Barone, ma informalmente, si fanno rappresentare da un funzionario dell’ambasciata francese di Roma.

Led by his passion, he decided to make a gift to the island of a small jewel and he decided to create his donation right at Migliera. Welcome to the Philosophical Park of Anacapri. Those who have visited it call it a truly magical place. Just walking along the footpaths of the park introduces visitors to a perception of the supernatural, immersed in the pristine nature of the island’s Mediterranean scrub. Approximately sixty philosophical quotes are positioned along the footpaths, starting with an ancient inscription from Delphi and continuing down to Einstein.

Encountering the thoughts of wise men in the silence of such rare natural beauty is inspiring. A delightful place to relax and be alone with yourself, it is not far from the lighthouse at Punta Carena, amidst yellow and pink bushes of Mediterranean scrub with shady paths. Along the naturalistic trail of the philosophical Park, sixty painted tiles quote maxims and aphorisms from the wealth of Western philosophy various quotes written on the tiles. The park and Professor Karlsson have many characteristics in common. When he is in Capri, Karlsson lives in a house close to the park and it is easy to meet him and exchange thoughts as the gulls swoop low over Migliera, an experience to remember. The trail that departs from the center of Anacapri and leads to the Park is very pleasant. It takes about thirty minutes to walk there across the plain on a pedestrian road that passes by small vegetable patches and vineyards, all well taken care of with intense love, the same that inspires a man to cover his beloved with attentions. Here, the island has no trace of the jet set and is nude to the eyes of the true enthusiast, with all of its culture and history. We like to imagine and to know that they exist despite all these scenarios.

Beyond the Philosophical Park, you will arrive at a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the lighthouse at Punta Carena. Climbing a little higher to the left, you can see the Faraglioni of Capri from a new perspective. The ambivalent spirit, the characteristic if just one must be singled out, of an island with over one thousand years of history, prey to continuous captures despite the difficulties of landing. Oltre il Parco Filosofico si arriva a un commovente belvedere affacciato sul Faro di Punta Carena e salendo di qualche metro sulla sinistra si vedono i Faraglioni di Capri da una prospettiva inedita. Anima ambivalente, ecco la caratteristica, se proprio se ne deve eleggere una, di un’isola dalla storia millenaria, preda di continue conquiste a dispetto del difficile approdo. Capri, isola e mare. L’assioma, se formulato, viene da chi non conosce la spuria magia di un’isola strana, dalle tante anime contrapposte. Perché Capri è un camaleonte dove ogni angolo fa storia a sé.

Quest’angolo mostra l’amore di uno straniero, di un turista, di un habitué, di una persona affascinata dalla filosofia occidentale e dalla bellezza dell’isola azzurra e l’intento di creare un posto dove si riesce a incontrarle entrambe. Di fronte al parco si trova il ristorante Da Gelsomina, noto per la sapiente ricercatezza della sua cucina tradizionale, dove tutto è chiaramente fatto in casa.

The second open-air art exhibition, Capri The Island of Art Il secondo appuntamento di Capri The Island of Art, rassegna d’arte open air It is the second consecutive year for Capri The Island of Art, an open-air art exhibition curated this year by Sergio Risaliti and Marco Izzolino and eagerly wanted by the art dealer from Capri Franco Senesi. Acclaimed artists from the national and international contemporary scene have been invited to engage with the island and not only. Four months of installations and events (from September to October) that will also involve the city of Naples - with an ideal bridge linking sea, land and underground -, and its Art Stations of the Metro and main museums of contemporary art. A project born from a wish: restore Capri’s role as a place that can also attract brilliant and creative minds, and not only vacationers. It would mean rediscovering an inclination whose roots reach far back in time, but are nonetheless very strong.

This year too the works will recreate an ideal cultural itinerary in which the sites of historical interest on the island will be those that house the installations. A sort of journey within a journey, on land as well as inside art, but caught in its most contemporary and innovative expressions. The curator of the main exhibition will be Sergio Risaliti, who will present works

by Remo Salvadori, Domenico Bianchi and Marco Bagnoli.

Marco Bagnoli’s relationship with the location will represent an opportunity to communicate with the past, while Remo Salvadori will direct his attention not only towards the venue and his work, but also on the viewer and on contemplation.

Lastly, for Domenico Bianchi a work of art begins with a mark, a drawing that is also the indexation of a power, of a generating action that is born and then expands into wax, wood or paper.

The chosen sites are Capri’s great classic locations: the Carthusian monastery of San Giacomo and Villa Lysis.

The interactions between visitors and environmental installations will be curated by Marco Izzolino and will be part of a second itinerary featuring the works of emerging contemporary artists.

Si rinnova anche per il secondo anno consecutivo l’appuntamento con Capri The Island of Art: una rassegna di arte open air - curata quest’anno da Sergio Risaliti e Marco Izzolino, fortemente voluta dal gallerista caprese Franco Senesi - che vede coinvolti grandi artisti della scena contemporanea nazionale e internazionale, invitati a dialogare l’isola e non solo. Quattro mesi di installazioni, appuntamenti ed eventi (dura da settembre a dicembre) che toccano anche la città di Napoli in un ponte ideale tra mare, terra e sottosuolo con il coinvolgimento delle Stazioni dell’Arte della Metropolitana e dei principali siti museali del contemporaneo. Un progetto che nasce da un desiderio: riportare Capri ad essere un centro di attrazione intellettuale e non solo turistica, riscoprendo una sua vocazione che ha radici lontane nel tempo, benché molto forti.

Anche in questa seconda edizione le opere ricreano un percorso culturale ideale in cui i luoghi di interesse storico dell’isola sono anche quelli in cui le installazioni sono presenti. Una sorta di viaggio nel viaggio, nel territorio ma anche nell’arte, colta però nei suoi linguaggi più contemporanei e innovativi. A curare la mostra principale Sergio Risaliti che presenta i lavori di Remo Salvadori, Domenico Bianchi e Marco Bagnoli. Se la relazione col luogo rappresenta nel caso di Marco Bagnoli l’occasione per dialogare col passato, l’attenzione di Remo Salvadori si proietta non solo sul luogo e sull’opera ma anche sull’osservatore e la contemplazione. Per Domenico Bianchi infine l’opera parte da un segno, un disegno che è anche indicizzazione di una forza, di un’azione procreatrice che nasce e si propaga nella cera o nel legno, sulla carta. Luoghi scelti, i grandi classici di Capri: la Certosa di San Giacomo e villa Lysis.

JK Place is located in an original spot on the island. What was your first impression?

Capri is a special island. On most islands life takes place around the port, while on Capri it all happens high up in the town. JK is halfway between the two and on my first visit alone I realized this is what made the location so wonderful. It’s at the ideal height for the rooms to boast fantastic views over the bay and the boats in the natural harbor.

How did the island inspire you to create this stunning oasis of style and refinement at Marina Grande?

Seven years on from its opening, JK Place Capri remains one of the most sought-after destinations in the world. While it is undeniably a sublime hotel overlooking the Gulf of Naples, it also reflects a philosophy of beauty and culture imbued with an imaginative spirit that reinvented, from its origins, the myth of the island and the taste of Edwin Cerio [ed. engineer and architect who was born on Capri].

Without taking into account the important of re-evaluating all of the obsolete geography, the area halfway along the coast between Marina Grande and the Piazzetta. What’s my inspiration? The home of a 19th-century English family.

J.K. Place, in un posto inedito per l’Isola. Cosa ha provato durante il primo sopralluogo?

Capri è un’isola speciale. Mentre su tutte le isole la vita si svolge al porto, a Capri si svolge in alto, in paese. Il Palazzo del JK rimane a mezza altezza e solo con la prima visita del posto mi sono potuto rendere conto che in questo si trova la meraviglia di questo luogo.

L’altezza ideale per la vista stupenda dalle camere sulla baia e sulle barche nella rada.

Come l’ha ispirata l’Isola nel creare questa bellissima oasi di stile e raffinatezza a Marina Grande?

JK Place Capri, tuttora, a sette anni dalla sua nascita è in testa alle classifiche delle più splendide destinazioni nel mondo. Più che essere un sublime albergo spalancato sul Golfo di Napoli, riflette una filosofia estetica e culturale permeata da uno spirito immaginativo che reinventa dalle radici il mito dell’Isola e il gôut Cerio. Senza contare la portata di rivalutazione di tutta una desueta geografia caprese, della zona situata a mezza costa tra Marina Grande e la Piazzetta. La mia ispirazione? Come se fosse stato la residenza di una famiglia inglese dell’Ottocento.

Have you ever had the feeling that something is exactly where it should be? The sweet feeling of perfection that looks almost too good to be real….Well, if you have no idea what we are talking about, take a look at Lido del Faro, the restaurant and beach club at Punta Carena, Anacapri’s south-western tip. Set between the white and steep cliffs, it seems an integral part of the magnificent landscape surrounding it. A corner of paradise off the tourist path, the place that takes both locals and the island’s habitués back to their dearest memories, when they used to walk up beyond the lighthouse to find some peace and quiet and take in the view of breathtaking sunsets.

“I’ve been here for 40 years and I’ve never seen two sunsets looking alike”, Nello D’Esposito says with a smile. He is the son of the builder from Anacapri who constructed, back in 1970, what is now considered to be the island’s most exclusive beach club.

One of the few places in Capri were one can take a swim with the sun plunging into the sea and lounge on the sunbed until nine o’clock in evening watching the sun go down behind the horizon. Reserved to intellectual and noble guests who came to the isle in those years, today it is the choice of VIPs and anyone else lucky enough to find a table at Aurora.

Mia D’Alessio is the heart and soul of the most sought after restaurant on Capri and tells us proudly about the isle’s most famous culinary product. While we talk, her father Gennaro and her mother Lucia are with Raffaele going around the restaurant to make sure that everything is perfect to welcome the many guests who will be arriving.

From the last summer the pizza all’acqua has been given a registered trademark. The announcement was made in Rome

by Mia and her husband, the chef Franco Aversa, at the Open House Rome event. Mia and Franco presented the trademark which protects the product symbolizing their restaurant from imitations, a duty not only for the future, but also a way of countering the many episodes of fraud which have occurred on both the isle and around the world.

This very thin pizza with mozzarella, chili pepper and a little secret ingredient which has never been revealed by the family, bewitches from the first bite and so it is the first thing that the guests of Aurora ask for when they sit down. At the same time many chefs, even top chefs have tried to copy the recipe, without much success though.

The reasons why the then young Gennaro D’Alessio chose to cater for the needs of the customers of the time, who started to pay more attention to their waistlines in the 1950’s, remain true seventy years later. People are still looking for lighter, tasty and natural food.

The secret ingredient remains Top Secret, even if the illustrious guests of the restaurant like Steven Spielberg, Bruce Springsteen, Giorgio Armani, Diego Della Valle, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo or Valentino ask for it. Still, whenever they visit the isle, they never miss out on a visit to the D’Alessio family.

La pizza all’acqua nasce da un’intuizione di papà Gennaro negli anni Cinquanta. Riservata a ospiti intellettuali e nobili che frequentavano l’isola in quegli anni, oggi è scelta da vip e da chiunque abbia la fortuna di sedersi da Aurora.

Mia D’Alessio è l’anima del ristorante più desiderato di Capri e con orgoglio ci parla del prodotto culinario più famoso dell’Isola. Mentre parliamo il signor Gennaro e la moglie signora Lucia sono, insieme a Raffaele, in giro per la sala, per controllare che tutto sia perfetto ad accogliere i tanti ospiti che arriveranno.

Dalla scorsa estate la pizza all’acqua si fregia di un marchio registrato. L’annuncio è stato dato a Roma da Mia e dal marito, lo chef Franco Aversa, nell’ambito dell’evento Open House Roma. Mia e Franco hanno presentato il marchio registrato che tutela da imitazioni il prodotto simbolo del loro ristorante, un atto dovuto non solo per il futuro ma anche per contenere i tanti episodi già verificatisi sia sull’Isola Azzurra che in giro per il mondo.

Questa pizza molto sottile con mozzarella, peperoncino e un pizzico di segreto mai svelato dalla famiglia, strega dal primo boccone e risulta essere la prima scelta quando ci si siede da Aurora. Allo stesso tempo è ambita da molti chef, anche stellati, che tentano di copiare la ricetta senza eccelsi risultati.

I motivi che spinsero negli anni Cinquanta l’allora giovane Gennaro D’Alessio ad andare incontro alle esigenze della clientela del tempo, che cominciava a tener d’occhio la propria linea, continuano a essere validi a distanza di settant’anni, oggi si va alla ricerca di pietanze leggere, gustose e naturali.

Here, culinary arts and lifestyle differentiate the new culinary offerings of Ristorante Terrazza Tiberio, inspired by the knowing hands of the Executive Chef Francesco De Simone. Originality, authenticity, attention to ingredients that are exclusively seasonal ones: the Cuisine of Ingredients represents the restaurant’s proposition of interpreting the Italian and Mediterranean gastronomic tradition.

Mediterranean because the ingredients come from the whole Mediterranean countries area, Italian because the approach to food is typically Italian: respecting the cycle of seasons, the simplicity of the dishes, a not excessively elaborate preparation, which keeps the flavor, the properties and the characteristics of the ingredients intact, enhancing them. Some examples? The smoked sardines, produced by a small family farm, Fishgourmet, of Guadarrama, founded in 1985 by a man who has dedicated all his life to small scale sardine production. You have devoted your entire life as a businessman to this wine. What is it that gives Franciacorta bubbly a place among high-end Made in Italy products?

Its orogenic features and microclimate make Franciacorta a perfect terrain for making quality sparkling wine.

Starting from this “discovery”, we based all our other decisions on the same criterion, that of absolute quality.

Which do you consider to be the most spot on description anyone has given of Franciacorta?

The one given many years ago by an American journalist who described this area as “Italy’s little Champagne region”.

It was back in the Nineties, but on the other side of the pond someone had already realized that this area was on the road to excellence.

What do today’s producers of Champagne think of Franciacorta producers?

There’s great mutual respect. We identify with the same choices, journeys and the effort involved in maintaining rigorous standards alongside the need to speak a modern language.

And as far as the market is concerned?

The market is the market. In the market we are obviously competitors, but it is a healthy, fair competition.

Innovation and tradition. Can you give an example or a project that you have in mind for the Consortium?

The young generations and knowledge of the road taken by their parents. It is our duty to them because excellence isn’t handed over like a ball but is raised like a child.

We are setting in motion various initiatives that will allow us to create a bridge between the past, present, and future.

Presidente, lei ha dedicato tutta la sua vita di imprenditore a questo vino. Quali sono le caratteristiche che fanno delle bollicine Franciacorta un prodotto della scuderia Made in Italy d’alta gamma?

La Franciacorta, per caratteristiche di orogenesi e di microclima, è una terra perfetta per realizzare bollicine di pregio.

A partire da questa “rivelazione”, abbiamo improntato tutte le altre scelte allo stesso criterio, quello della qualità assoluta.

Secondo lei, la definizione più azzeccata che qualcuno ha dato del Franciacorta?

Molti anni fa, quella di un giornalista americano che aveva raccontato di questa terra come “la piccola Champagne d’Italia”.

Eravamo ancora negli anni ’90, ma qualcuno al di là dell’Oceano si era già accorto che questa terra aveva intrapreso una strada d’eccellenza.

Cosa pensano oggi i produttori di Champagne dei produttori del Franciacorta?

C’è un grandissimo rispetto reciproco. Ci riconosciamo nelle scelte, nei percorsi, nella fatica di mantenere rigore e serietà accanto all’esigenza di parlare con linguaggi contemporanei.

E il mercato?

Il mercato è mercato. Nel mercato siamo ovviamente concorrenti. Ma è una concorrenza bella, sana, leale.

Innovazione e tradizione. Un esempio virtuoso o un progetto che ha in mente di realizzare per il Consorzio?

Le giovani generazioni e la consapevolezza della strada intrapresa dai loro padri. È un dovere che noi abbiamo verso di loro perché l’eccellenza non “si passa di mano” come una palla, ma si genera come “un figlio”. Stiamo attivando varie iniziative che ci consentiranno di creare un vero ponte tra il passato, il presente ed il futuro.
