MUSART FESTIVAL 2022 16-26 July

Once again this year, Piazza Santissima Annunziata will be enlivened by music, dance, exhibitions and visits to the most attractive art venues in central Florence. Headlining the 2022 edition are Roberto Bolle, LP, Achille Lauro, Vinicio Capossela, Goran Bregovic, Rock The Opera, Steve Hackett and Dado Moroni. An event that combines top names in show business with the age-old allure of Florence.

MUSIC, FESTIVAL, ART: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EVENTS OF SUMMER IN FLORENCE

VILLE E GIARDINI INCANTATI until 6 August

APRITI CINEMA until 7 august

The maestros of Orchestra della Toscana perform in the 6th edition of Ville e Giardini Incantati in Florence’s Medici villas. The programme features classics by Mozart and Beethoven, Haydn and Prokofiev in 16 concerts in the gorgeous outdoor spaces of 8 Tuscan villas. The grand finale takes place on 6 August in the Medici garden of Pratolino, with music by Brahams and Mendelssohn conducted by Daniele Giorgi.

Summer nights in Florence are illuminated by the outdoor film festival Apriti Cinema, screening in one of the world’s most exclusive settings, the courtyard of the Uffizi Galleries. Until 7 August, at 21:45 every evening, with free entry while seats are available, Italian and international audiences can enjoy a film in original language, with subtitles in Italian and occasionally English. 13

For the first time, an exhibition that compares - side by side in the Tribuna di Michelangelo hall of the Opera del Duomo Museum - the original Bandini Pietà, whose restoration has recently been completed, and casts of the Vatican Pietà and the Rondanini Pietà, from the Vatican Museums.

More than 50 works by an artist who was able to interpret in a completely personal way the teachings of Giovanni Fattori - he studied at his Scuola Libera del Nudo where he came into contact with ‘colleagues’ such as Ardengo Soffici and Amedeo Modigliani - and the new artistic influences originating from across the Alps, especially the style of Paul Cézanne. The exhibition focuses on the 20th century, the years when Ghiglia produced his best works.

I started working in hotels right after graduating from high school to pay for my university studies, because I wanted to get a degree in Law. And the experience of working in reception at Hotel Corona was so amazing that my plans were overturned. I found an extremely professional team and managers who were dedicated and very friendly. From that moment on, I threw myself into this work, and I’ve been doing

it ever since. Since 2001 I’ve been working at Hotel Bernini Palace, where my main aim is to seek out increasingly unique and exclusive activities for the guests, finding appropriate solutions to suit all tastes and needs. It’s an instinct I’ve always had, and which has come to the fore since I joined Le Chiavi d’Oro in 2005. I spend my free time with my family or training: I’m an enthusiastic marathon runner.

GNUDI ALLA FIORENTINA

Let’s discover the recipe for this traditional Florentine dish from Cantinetta Antinori TEXT Martina Olivieri METHOD: Start by squeezing the water out of the spinach and chopping it. Blot the ricotta between two sheets of paper towel. In a large bowl combine the ricotta and the spinach and mix well. Add the peel of half a lemon, a teaspoon of nutmeg and the salt. Mix well and add the eggs, egg yolk and lastly the flour, taking care not to over beat the mixture. Divide the mixture into small pieces and with floured hands roll into little balls which should then be left to firm up in the fridge. FOR THE SAUCE: cut the date tomatoes in half lengthwise, place them on a baking sheet

with cut side up, season with salt, oil, basil, thyme and a dusting of icing sugar. Bake in a 180° oven for about twenty minutes. When they are cooked and still hot, add 1/4 of a garlic clove finely chopped and the chili powder. Put the tomatoes in a pan with oil, garlic and basil and a drop of water and cook quickly. Blend 1/3 of the tomatoes with a hand blender and combine with the whole ones. Cook the gnudi in boiling salted water. When they float to the surface they are ready. Coat the base of a dish with the sauce, place the gnudi on top, drizzle with olive oil and dust with shaved Parmesan cheese. Garnish with basil leaves.

FOR THE GNUDI: 600 gr cooked spinach, 400gr sheep’s milk ricotta, 1 egg yolk, 2 whole eggs, 200 gr 00 flour, nutmeg, grated lemon peel and salt FOR THE SPICY DATE TOMATOES: 300gr date tomatoes, icing sugar, thyme, basil, garlic and chili powder

PANERAI ACQUIRED EILEAN IN 2006

he Tuscan coast has been visited several times by the Eilean, the fabulous 22-metre 30s-style Bermuda-rigged ketch whose name means small island in Gaelic, newly restored by the celebrated Florentine watchmaker. The original design was by Scot William Fife III and his company Fife & Son, one of the most feted yacht builders in sailing history. In 1982 the Eilean was used by Duran Duran for the video of Rio; in the 90s the boat began an inexorable decline until, during Antigua Classic Week 2006, it caught the eye of Angelo Bonati, then chief executive at Officine Panerai, who bought the yacht and embarked on a meticulous restoration at the Del Carlo shipyard in Viareggio. Three years later it was back in the water, with almost all its original plank56

ing intact. There was nothing in the world that could convey the Panerai values Italian design, Swiss technology and passion for the sea since 1860 - like this magnificent yacht. The Eilean has three cabins and can accommodate 10 people; the main mast is 28.5 metres tall, the mizzen 18.3 metres, with a sail area of 301 square metres (mainsail, topsail, jib, staysail, yankee). It was built in 1936, shortly before Panerai presented the prototype of one of its most famous creations, the Radiomir watch case, the first ever developed by the Florentine watchmaker. Today the Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition (PAM01244) celebrates two legends of the sea, Panerai and the Eilean, with a new watch produced in a limited edition of just 50. The Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition combines

Panerai’s aesthetic and technical codes with details inspired by (or taken directly from) the Eilean, a wonderful way of appreciating the yacht’s allure. Sailing to Positano on board the Eilean is a tribute to Italian design lineage and the seafaring legacy that is an essential part of the Panerai universe.

Today the Arno is not fully navigable as it passes through Florence, but the central section is, and this is undoubtedly the most interesting, between the Pescaia di San Niccolò and Santa Rosa, the two weirs that have regulated the river’s flow since the Middle Ages. The boat trip is perhaps best taken at sunset, when everything - including the water - starts turning gold; the departure point is Ponte alle Grazie. From here you glide silently past the Uffizi and the Vasari Corridor, before passing under Ponte Vecchio as you marvel at the area of the city most densely packed
