A Milano, Vincenzo Dascanio ha portato una nuova versione dell’ormai iconico Urban Chalet, un allestimento d’ispirazione montanara nella Sala Camino dell’hotel, e a Firenze ha rivestito gli ambienti di Palazzo della Gherardesca con decorazioni che richiamano un teatro scintillante. Ad inaugurare ufficialmente il periodo natalizio nella città dei Medici, l’immancabile Open Day, quest’anno a sostegno della Patrizio Cipollini Foundation, nata per portare avanti progetti cari allo storico ex direttore, prima Hotel Manager del Four Seasons di Milano, poi General Manager del Four Seasons di Firenze, recentemente scomparso. One year is coming to an end and a new one is looming on the horizon. It is that special time of the year again, when travelling becomes a magical experience, especially if your destination is one of the two Four Seasons Hotels Italia, which are decked out in holiday style, with decorations, lights, colors and a warm and cozy atmosphere, thanks to Artistic Director Vincenzo Dascanio’s matchless touch. In Milan, Vincenzo Dascanio presents a new version of the iconic Urban Chalet, a mountain-inspired setting in the Hotel’s Sala Camino, whereas Florence’s Palazzo della Gherardesca’s halls and rooms are decorated to resemble a glamorous theatre. In Florence, the event which officially marks the beginning of the festive season is the Open Day, which this year raises funds for the Patrizio Cipollini Foundation, established to fund projects dear to the former Hotel Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Milano and then General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, who recently passed away. FIRENZE ARTE Siamo all’interno della cornice unica di Palazzo Strozzi, uno dei capolavori dell’architettura rinascimentale fiorentina, qui troviamo, stagione dopo stagione, esposizioni d’arte che spaziano dall’arte antica al Rinascimento fino all’epoca moderna e all’arte contemporanea. Fino al 12 gennaio protagonista Natalia Goncharova, straordinaria figura femminile dell’arte del Novecento, attraverso una grande retrospettiva che ripercorre la sua vita controcorrente e la sua ricca e poliedrica produzione a confronto con capolavori di celebri artisti come Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso e Umberto Boccioni provenienti dalle collezioni dei più prestigiosi musei internazionali. Dal 22 febbraio al 19 luglio è la volta di Tomás Saraceno con il suo più grande progetto mai realizzato in Italia, l’artista trasformerà Palazzo Strozzi in un nuovo spazio unitario mettendo insieme sue celebri opere e una nuova grande produzione site specific. Ci spostiamo agli Uffizi, splendido scrigno di capolavori unici, che fino all’1 marzo, celebra il genio di Pietro Aretino con un centinaio tra dipinti, sculture, oggetti di arte applicata, arazzi, miniature e libri a stampa, ricostruiscono il mondo di un grande intellettuale del Cinquecento. Nei sontuosi ambienti di Palazzo Pitti, vive il celebre e unico esempio in Italia Museo della Moda e del Costume; fino al 13 aprile un’interessante mostra celebra la storia, il ruolo sociale e la valenza simbolica della calzatura a partire dal mondo classico sino al contemporaneo, con la mostra Ai piedi degli dei. Two fascinating cities, one a tribute to beauty in all its forms, the other a breeding ground of creativity, where everything seems possible. FIRENZE ART The unique setting of Palazzo Strozzi, one of the masterworks of Florentine Renaissance architecture, houses, season after season, art exhibitions ranging from classical and Renaissance to modern and contemporary art. Showing until January 2 is Natalia Goncharova, a great retrospective devoted to an extraordinary twentieth-century female artist, which explores her unconventional life and rich and versatile artistic production, juxtaposed with works by famous artists, such as Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Umberto Boccioni, on loan from the world’s most prestigious museums. From February 22 to July 19, Palazzo Strozzi will host the exhibition by Tomás Saraceno, featuring the artist’s greatest project ever created in Italy. He will transform Palazzo Strozzi into a unified space showcasing his bestknown works and a new site-specific installation. ‘Guggenheim. La collezione di Justin K. Thannhauser’ (Palazzo Reale) MILANO ARTE Un tourbillon di eventi invernali nel segno della grande arte non può certo che iniziare con Palazzo Reale, inaugurato nel 1951 con una mostra su Caravaggio, continua ad essere uno dei principali spazi espositivi della città. Fino al 19 gennaio, assolutamente da non perdere un viaggio nella complessità dell’opera di de Chirico densa di enigmi e misteri pittorici e che si svela come un ricco racconto di grande attualità. Un percorso costruito sulle immagini e sulla sua pittura “vista da vicino”, dal mondo della mitologia greca carico di memorie famigliari al rapporto con la figura materna, “la centauressa” Gemma de Chirico, alla scoperta rivoluzionaria ed inaudita della pittura metafisica che influenzò tutti i pittori surrealisti e folgorò, tra gli altri René Magritte, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalì. FIRENZE SPETTACOLO In questo ventaglio di opere, balletti e pièce teatrali iniziamo con la classicità del Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Dal 15 dicembre al 4 gennaio, una versione moderna della celebre storia di Cenerentola che perde in questa coreografia del celebre ballerino Sergej Prokof’ev gli elementi più classici e favolistici conservando però la celebre trama e i personaggi che tutti conosciamo: le sorelle, la matrigna, il principe, per aggiornarsi e arricchirsi nella lettura contemporanea di Jiří Bubeníček tra metafore ed elementi simbolici. La città di Milano deve molto a una grande donna: Maria Teresa d’Austria, una delle più illuminate e significative figure tra i sovrani d’Europa di tutti i tempi, salita al trono poco più che ventenne, nel 1729. Tra i suoi preziosi contributi la nascita di uno dei templi della lirica mondiale: il Teatro alla Scala, consacrato poi da Giuseppe Verdi, Arturo Toscanini e la magnifica Maria Callas, che qui ottenne uno dei suoi più importanti trionfi, in una data diventata poi storica: il 7 dicembre - festa anche di Sant’Ambrogio, patrono di Milano - che oggi segna, non a caso, l’inizio della stagione scaligera. Una vera e propria serata di gala, cui partecipano star internazionali e importanti personalità, in un susseguirsi di flash e abiti da red carpet. Un cartellone incredibile, con undici nuovi allestimenti su quindici. Opera inaugurale di quest’anno la Tosca, diretta da Riccardo Chailly, che ha preannunciato una versione in cui saranno messe in scena pagine dell’opera mai sentite prima, con la regia di Davide Livermore (dopo la serata del 7, in programma dal 10 dicembre all’8 gennaio). Among her many important initiatives is the construction of one of the world’s leading opera theaters, Teatro alla Scala, which would then become associated with Giuseppe Verdi, Arturo Toscanini and the great Maria Callas, who became instantly famous by performing at La Scala on a historic date, December 7, Milan’s patron saint’s day, which every year marks the beginning of the theatre’s season. Always a premiere performance attended by Italian and international celebrities, parading on the red carpet in their couture outfits. A very exciting program this season: the theatre will stage eleven new productions out of fifteen performances on the bill. Sul podio ancora una volta Zubin Mehta, alternato per alcune rappresentazione dal giovane maestro milanese Michele Gamba. Passando al balletto, da non perdere una prima assoluta: Madina, una serata con protagonisti Roberto Bolle e Filippo Timi, che indagheranno nuove forme della danza e del teatro musicale (dal 22 marzo al 16 aprile). FIRENZE Benché l’Ultima cena di Leonardo sia la più celebre, Firenze è forse la città che conta più Cenacoli in assoluto, la maggior parte ancora all’interno di refettori e chiese, ma qualcuno lo si trova isolato anche nei posti più impensati. Come quello del Fuligno affrescato dal Perugino o quello più antico di Sant’Apollonia, opera di Andrea del Castagno. Il sacro si fonde poi a momenti di vita quotidiana che spuntano qua e là, come nel piccolo Oratorio dei Buonomini di San Martino dietro piazza Signoria, dove Domenico del Ghirlandaio ci racconta usi, costumi e opere caritatevoli in un giorno qualunque nella città del Magnifico o in Sant’Ambrogio, dove Cosimo Rosselli raffigura il Miracolo del Calice (col tabernacolo di Mino da Fiesole) tra chi fa affari, chi si asciuga i capelli e chi gioca indisturbato. A volte realizzare un grande dipinto era l’occasione per farsi strada nelle committenze importanti. È quanto fece il giovane Pontormo nel ‘500, nella chiesa in San Michele in Visdomini, dove dipin-

Here is the tour that will make you experience the “wow effect”. FIRENZE Although Leonardo’s Last Supper is the most widely-known one, Florence is the city that boasts the greatest number of Last Supper paintings, a few of which can be found in the most unexpected places. Such as the Convent of Fuligno’s Last Supper frescoed by Perugino or Sant’Apollonia’s, which dates even further back, by Andrea del Castagno. An exquisite mix of the sacred and profane is found in the Oratory of Buonomini di San Martino, behind Piazza Signoria, where Domenico del Ghirlandaio depicted ordinary life on an ordinary day in Florence, and in the Church of Sant’Ambrogio, where Cosimo Rosselli represented the everyday events surrounding the Miracle of the Cup (the church also houses a marble altar by Mino da Fiesole). One great painting was often enough for an artist to make himself known among the local patrons of the arts. Such is the case of Pontormo, in the 1500s, when he painted an unconventional Sacred Conversation, portraying himself as Saint James,

E altrettanto farà anche Giorgio Vasari, che appare sulla scena fiorentina con l’Allegoria della Concezione in Santi Apostoli. Fu invece un gesto di ringraziamento quel piccolo Crocifisso ligneo che un giovanissimo Michelangelo donò agli agostiniani di Santo Spirito. Ed era destinato a decorare la tomba, mai finita, di Lorenzo il Magnifico il torso del Dio Fluviale che sempre Michelangelo realizzò in legno, lana, argilla e stoppa. È l’unico modello esistente del maestro, oggi nell’Accademia del Disegno in via Orsanmichele. E mai nessuno penserebbe di dover entrare in una scuola, il Liceo Michelangelo, per ammirare l’opera più ariosa, l’affresco della Crocifissione, del Perugino. E davvero pochi possono pensare di trovare nella chiesa un po’ defilata di San Felice in Piazza una delle ultime Croci dipinte della storia, quella di Giotto. Così come sembra strano, tra belletti e profumi della Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella, imbattersi nelle storie di Cristo, rappresentate nel ciclo di affreschi più importante di Mariotto di Nardo. E mai come nel

It is now kept at the Accademia del Disegno on Via Orsanmichele. And who would ever walk into a high school, Liceo Michelangelo, and expect to find a fresco by Perugino, the Crucifixion? And very few are those who would believe to discover a Crucifix painted by Giotto in a church off the beaten path, San Felice in Piazza. It is also quite unusual to bump into the stories of Christ, Mariotto di Nardo’s major fresco cycle, amidst the fragrances of Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella. Not to mention the Cloister of the Church of Santissima Annunziata, a unique concentration of masterworks by Alesso Baldovinet-

Chiostrino dei Voti della Santissima Annunziata sono concentrati tanti capolavori assieme: per raccontare le storie della Madonna si susseguono Alesso Baldovinetti, Andrea del Sarto, Franciabigio, Pontormo e Rosso Fiorentino. Del Sarto e Franciabigio lavoreranno insieme anche nel piccolo Chiostro dello Scalzo dove raccontano, con la tecnica del monocromo, le storie del Battista. MILANO È forse l’unica città dove antico, moderno e avanguardie si susseguono con nonchalance. Non a caso è proprio qui che la Controriforma, col suo rigore, trovò terreno fertile. Lo si vede visitando la Chiesa di San Fedele, a due passi dalla Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Ristrutturata da San Carlo Borromeo è oggi considerata il modello per tutte le chiese Controriformate. Ma è anche dove Caravaggio trovò ispirazione, grazie ai drammatici giochi di luce usati dal suo maestro Peterzano per la Deposizione qui conservata. Giochi di luce protagonisti anche in San Bernardino alle Ossa, dove teschi e ossa decorano, fasciandolo, la cappella dell’Ossario. Potrà suonare strano, ma tutto è disposto in maniera quasi giocosa, un arabesco per niente macabro. E un meraviglioso inganno ottico è quello di Bramante in Santa Maria presso San Satiro, chiesa incastonata in un vicolo stretto e cieco dove l’architetto manierista crea un’abside profondamente strombata. Ma avvicinatevi e scoprirete che quel susseguirsi di colonne altro non sono che un’illusione: l’abside è meno di un metro. Ma se volete continuare a stupirvi entrate nel Museo Diocesano dove Lucio Fontana negli anni ‘50 abbandona la tecnica dei tagli per la scultura, con una suggestiva Deposizione, che doveva decorare una delle porte della Cattedrale. Ed è davvero suggestivo seguire i meandri che Arnaldo Pomodoro realizza tra il ‘95 e il 2011. Il suo Labirinto nei sotterranei dell’ex Riva Calzoni, oggi showroom Fendi è anche il suo testamento artistico. E può essere considerata l’eredità di Leonardo la Vergine delle Rocce che Francesco Melzi, fedele collaboratore del maestro, realizza nella chiesetta di San Bernardino alle Monache. Mentre si presenta come antesignana di tante chiese romane Santa Maria

Del Sarto and Franciabigio worked together on the small Cloister dello Scalzo, where they used the monochrome technique to represent the stories of St. John the Baptist. MILANO It is perhaps the only Italian city featuring an exciting cultural mélange of old, modern and avant-garde. It is, in fact, no chance that the Counter-Reformation found fertile ground here. This can be seen by visiting the Church of San Fedele, just steps away from Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Renovated by St. Carlo Borromeo, this church was the architectural inspiration for all Counter-Reformation churches. But it is also the place where Caravaggio found inspiration, owing to the bold use of light and dark by his mentor Peterzano, for the Deposition housed inside. The use of contrasts of light can be seen also in the Church of San Bernardino alle Ossa, where skulls and bones decorate the Chapel of the Ossuary. As strange as it may seem, the overall effect is more playful than horrific. A wonderful trompe l’oeil attributed to Bramante is housed in the Church of Santa Maria presso San Satiro, set in a narrow and blind alley, where the Mannerist architect created a deeply splayed apse. But as you get closer, you realize that the series of columns is nothing more than an optical illusion: the apse is less than one meter in length. Another wonderful surprise is the Diocesan Museum, where Lucio Fontana, in the fifties, abandoned his cut paintings for sculpture, by creating a Deposition, which was supposed to decorate one of the Cathedral’s doors. An equally exciting experience is a visit to the Labyrinth that Arnaldo Pomodoro designed between 1995 and 2011.It is housed in the cellars of the former Riva Calzoni building, Fendi’s current showroom, and it is intended as the artist’s artistic testament. The small Church of San Bernardino alle Monache displays Francesco Melzi ‘s Virgin of the Rocks, a replica of Leonardo’s famous painting by one of his most faithful assistants. The Church of Santa Maria alla Fontana, designed by Bramante and Leonardo, is a precursor to many Roman

Ed è una delle poche chiese dove, Adorazione dei Magi di Ludovico Carracci da una parte e dei Pastori di Morazzone davanti, decorino il transetto col rigore Conciliare con cui è dipinta tutta la chiesa da poco monumento nazionale. Ed è davvero monumentale e rarissimo l’organo cinquecentesco, il più antico di Milano, che continua a creare melodie in San Maurizio. E se vi capita di passare da Santa Maria alla Consolazione, vicino al Castello Sforzesco, non mancate la messa che qui continua a essere celebrata col rito ambrosiano e in latino. Fu ideato da Sant’Ambrogio quando Milano era ancora la romana Mediolanum, ma qualche preziosa traccia del Foro si trova ancora sotto la Biblioteca Ambrosiana. Poche perché Milano è una città in continua evoluzione, capace però di curare i suoi gioielli, come la splendida Casa Galimberti: settanta metri di facciata in stile Liberty per il palazzo che all’inizio del ‘900 inaugurava un nuovo quartiere residenziale sulle ceneri della Società degli Omnibus e apriva le porte all’Art Noveau.

Very few, however, as Milan has always been a fast-changing city, though it takes great care of its gems, such as the magnificent Casa Galimberti: an early twentieth-century building with a seventy-square-meter Art Nouveau-style façade, one of the first in this style to be built in the new residential area upon the ashes of the Omnibus Company.

E quest’anno lo farà in un modo diverso dal solito, dedicando l’Open Day a Patrizio Cipollini, primo Direttore dell’Hotel purtroppo recentemente scomparso, che appunto dodici anni fa pensò di offrire ai cittadini di Firenze la possibilità di accedere al Giardino, per una giornata nella natura, magica non soltanto per i più piccoli. L’Open Day, che quest’anno si terrà domenica 15 dicembre, ha avuto fin dalla prima edizione una spiccata vocazione benefica. Negli anni sono state aiutate tante realtà, tra cui i ragazzi terremotati di Cittareale, le scuole alluvionate di Livorno, e, nel caso dell’ultima edizione, l’Istituto degli Innocenti, che ha così potuto riaprire lo scorso giugno il suo Giardino, dedicato, appunto, proprio a Patrizio Cipollini. I fondi del 2019 saranno invece destinati alla neonata Patrizio Cipollini Foundation, che nasce per portare avanti progetti cari all’ex direttore, e in questo caso saranno utilizzati per alcune Borse di studio da destinare agli studenti dell’Istituto Alberghiero Fratelli Pieroni di Barga, lo stesso nel quale si formò Cipollini e col quale aveva sempre mantenuto affettuosi rapporti, in un’ottica di sostegno all’alta formazione per un turismo d’eccellenza. E ancora una volta il tradizionale mercato natalizio del Four Seasons Hotel sarà originale per le sue scelte di shopping solidale: da Richard Ginori con le squisite porcellane alle biancherie di puro lino di Pedersoli, dalla Bottega dell’albergo alle varie delizie enogastronomiche, il tutto accompagnato dalla musica di Radio Toscana in diretta. Per i più piccoli, poi, sono attesi la Compagnia di Babbo Natale, i Bandierai degli Uffizi, quest’anno accompagnati dal Corteo Storico Fiorentino, un Coro Gospel e uno di Voci Bianche e B-Original con i suoi laboratori. Non mancherà la tradizione del presepe: uno a grandezza naturale e uno artigianale in movimento, realizzati a mano da Tommaso Nesi della Bottega dei Grassi Nesi. Per i palati più curiosi i piatti della tradizione declinati dai ristoratori fiorentini Borgo San Jacopo, Buca Lapi, Touch Bistrò Toscano, Fuor D’Acqua, Trattoria Mario, Trattoria da Burde, Macelleria Fracassi, Il Pirata del Polpo di Piombino e dallo stesso Il Palagio, con lo spazio del Pizzaiolo Romualdo Rizzuti, e quello per Enoteca Pinchiorri, con un piatto preparato con Savini Tartufi e Olio Giachi. For twelve years, Palazzo della Gherardesca’s magnificent garden, surrounding Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, has been opening its doors in December to the city’s most eagerly-awaited pre-Christmas event. And this year’s Open Day will take on a special significance, for it will be dedicated to Patrizio Cipollini, the Hotel’s first General Manager, who recently passed away and, twelve years ago, decided to give all Florentines, adults and children alike, the chance to access the garden and enjoy a wonderful day close to nature. The Open Day, which this year will be held on Sunday, December 15, has always had a charity fund-raising ethos. Many are those who benefited from the event’s charitable contributions, including the children of Cittareale, devastated by an earthquake, the pupils of Livorno’s schools, destroyed by flood waters and Istituto degli Innocenti, which was able to reopen its garden owing to the funds raised at last year’s Open Day and dedicate it to Patrizio Cipollini. Instead, the 2019 funds will be donated to the newborn Patrizio Cipollini Foundation, which was established to fund projects dear to the former general manager, in particular, a few scholarships for the students of the Fratelli Pieroni Hotel Management School of Barga, where Cipollini himself studied and with which he had always remained in touch, for the purpose of supporting advanced training in the luxury travel field. And once again, Four Seasons Hotel will host its annual Christmas market which turns shopping into a fundraising opportunity and features a range of gifts from Richard Ginori’s exquisite chinaware to Pedersoli’s pure linen table linen, from Bottega dell’albergo to a rich assortment of food delicacies and wine, and all this accompanied by Radio Toscana’s live music. The little ones will have fun with the Santa Claus Company, the Uffizi’s Flag-Wavers, the Historical Florentine Parade, a Gospel Choir, a Treble-Voice Choir and B-Original’s workshops. There will also be the traditional Nativity Scene: a life-size one and an artisan-made moving one, both handmade by Tommaso Nesi from Bottega dei Grassi Nesi. Rinomata in tutta Milano e non solo, la Chocolate Room di Four Seasons Hotel Milano è una vera meraviglia per tutti e cinque i sensi: oltre 760 kg di cacao e tre mesi di tempo per realizzarla, ogni anno con un tema differente, ammalia grandi e piccini. “Abbiamo pensato di portare fuori dalla nostra Chocolate Room una scultura di cioccolato fondente per poter condividere l’esperienza di quella che è un’opera d’arte sui generis”, così racconta il Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi. Lo Chalet, quest’anno, presenta infatti un menu dedicato alla montagna e la pièce in cioccolato preparata da Bonzi è un cervo - posato su una roccia -, alto oltre un metro, scaldato dai colori dorati grazie a un impegno di cesello grafico eseguito con l’aerografo. Ma le meraviglie del Pastry Chef non si fermano qui e completano ogni giorno i menu che l’Executive Chef Fabrizio Borraccino presenta agli ospiti dell’Hotel. La prima proposta è un dessert al cioccolato costruito con tre cremosi di tre cioccolati fondenti monorigine e servito con gelato bianco in infusione di fave di cacao che, caramellate, diventano il croccante biscotto che perfezionano il dessert, fresco, denso e intenso. La seconda invenzione che stupisce e affascina il palato è il financier alla nocciola con crema pasticciera al tartufo e nocciola con cubetti di mela cotta e nocciole caramellate - accompagnato da zabaione preparato con sifone al Carpano Antica formula; il tartufo bianco a sottili lamelle, poi, posato sulla pasta al tartufo perfeziona la rarità del prezioso tubero che esalta le rotondità della nocciola senza coprirne la grazia antica. Melograno e diospero sono invece gli ingredienti da cui nasce la terza novità dolce di Daniele Bonzi: puro diospero dalla morbidissima polpa setacciata che si perfeziona in una sfera arancione accompagnata da una crema di pinoli e un sorbetto rinfrescato da un velo di melograno dal colore e sapore inconfondibili. Tutto il mese di dicembre, poi, racconta il Natale con lo squisito panettone arrostito accompagnato dal gelato ormai imprescindibile dalla carte delle feste, mentre la Chocolate Room, conclude Daniele Bonzi, “omaggia il genio di Leonardo da Vinci con la realizzazione di un disegno tratto dai suoi lavori, che ritrae un bambino, e quella di un ornitottero, una delle sue avveniristiche e originali macchine…”

Renowned all over Milan and beyond, Four Seasons Hotel Milano’s Chocolate Room is a treat for all five senses: over 760 kg of cocoa and three months to create it, with a new and different theme every year, a real wonder for adults and children alike. “We decided to bring a dark chocolate sculpture out of our Chocolate Room to share the experience of a unique work of art with all guests”, Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi says. This year, the Chalet’s menu, in fact, is devoted to the mountains and the chocolate sculpture made by Bonzi represents a deer standing on a rock, over one-meter-high and warmed by golden colors applied with an airbrush. But the Pastry Chef’s wondrous creations go further than the Chalet and top off the menus that Executive Chef Fabrizio Borraccino presents the Hotel’s guests with every day. The first new treat is a chocolate dessert consisting of three different creamy single-origin dark chocolate layers, served with white cocoa bean-infused ice cream and candied cocoa beans to be enjoyed as the crunchy biscuit that completes this fresh, thick and intensely-flavored dessert. Bonzi’s second sumptuous creation is a financier cake with truffle and hazelnut-flavored custard, baked apple cubes and candied hazelnuts, served with Carpano Antica Formula-flavored zabaione from a whipping siphon and slivers of white truffle sprinkled over truffle paste to enhance the hazelnut’s roundness without being too overpowering. Pomegranate and persimmon are, instead, the basic ingredients of Daniele Bonzi’s third new dessert: the persimmon’s very soft pulp is passed through a sieve and rolled into an orange ball, served with pine nut cream and a fresh pomegranate sorbet with its unmistakable color and flavor. And traditional panettone cake with ice cream will be served throughout the month of December to celebrate the Christmas season, while the Chocolate Room, Daniele Bonzi concludes “ is a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci’s genius by featuring one of his drawings, the portrait of a child, and an ornithopter, one of the amazing machines he invented…”

Al suo interno, un twist di drink storici rivisitati in chiave contemporanea, come ad esempio “The Nutcracker”, dedicato al famoso balletto musicato da Čajkovskij: un Negroni arricchito da un’infusione di nocciole, che risulta morbido al palato e con sentori tostati. Anche tra questi, una rivisitazione del classico Negroni, qui proposto con un gin ottenuto da bacche di ginepro dell’arco alpino valdostano, Ebo Lebo, amaro tipico della stessa zona, liquore alla menta glaciale e vermouth. The list includes a number of classics with a contemporary twist, such as The Nutcracker, dedicated to the celebrated ballet with score by Čajkovskij: a Negroni cocktail enriched with an infusion of hazelnuts, which is soft on the palate and rich in roasted notes. And The Barber of Seville, a new version of the Garibaldi, with a hint of fizz evocative of the joyous, exuberant opera by Rossini, made with gin, two types of Martini and a “pinch of Spain”: orange juice and sherry. The Phantom of the Opera is a clarified Mojito, which plays on the barely visible presence of its two signature ingredients, mint and lime: well-perceivable on the palate, yet invisible in the elegantly transparent glass in which it is served. The arrival of winter and of the festive season marks also the return of the elegant Urban Chalet setting. A magical mountain atmosphere in the heart of Milan’s luxury shopping streets, for which Luca Angeli created a number of special cocktails, which draw inspiration from the Alpine landscape. Among them is a twist on the classic Negroni, with gin made from juniper berries of the Valle d’Aosta Alps, Ebo Lebo, a bitters from the same area, a frozen mint-flavored liqueur and Vermouth. But there are also traditional après-ski drinks from the Italian Alps, such as the Skipass, a cold grog with Essentiae Lunae, homemade spicy rum, spicy tea and lemon juice, and a slightly lighter version of the classic Bombardino, without rum and with the addition of vodka, whipped cream and nutmeg.

ANIMAL LAND L’Atrium Bar e il cocktail book delle meraviglie The Atrium Bar and the cocktail book of wonders Un dicembre intenso quello dell’Atrium Bar del Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, che non soltanto avrà cura di quanto riguarda le feste di Natale ma che presenterà anche il suo secondo Cocktail Book, dedicato quest’anno agli animali in via d’estinzione. “Abbiamo pensato a un tipo di sfondo diverso dal solito - spiega Gabriele Fedeli, Food & Beverage Outlets Manager -, a un tema strettamente legato all’attualità, intesa come attenzione all’ecologia e alla tutela di tutte le specie viventi. Così abbiamo puntato l’attenzione su quindici animali e a ciascuno abbiamo dedicato un cocktail che ne richiama le caratteristiche o le evoca nella sfera del gusto.” L’esito sono quindici drink completamente nuovi, elaborati con Tommaso Ondeggia - Bar Manager, Edoardo Sandri - Head Bartender e tutto il team dell’Atrium Bar, organizzati secondo i tre mondi della natura nei quali gli animali vivono, ovvero Cielo, Terra e Acqua e preparati con le eccezionali “basi” a disposizione di questi artisti del gusto in bicchiere. We focused on fifteen animals and we dedicated a cocktail to each of them, inspired by the animals’ main characteristics”. As a result, fifteen completely new drinks, created with the help of Bar Manager Tommaso Ondeggia, Bar Manager and Head Bartender Edoardo Sandri and the entire Atrium Bar team, and subdivided according to the three natural environments in which these animals live, that is, Earth, Water and Sky, and prepared with all the extraordinary ingredients that these masters of the art of cocktail-making have at their disposal.

L’Orso polare è infatti un intenso mix di profumi e sapori Ketel One Vodka, Etna Bitter, Amaro Angostura, Tarragon, Mango e Nitrogen Liquid; il Tartaruga si muove invece sui toni accesi ma comunque dolci di una miscela sapiente di Patron Silver Tequila, Leche de Tigre, Lemon, Coconut Milk e Chili Agave; il Pappagallo gigante pungente e affumicato, proprio come le memorie delle terre sudamericane è generato dall’incontro tra Bitter Martini Riserva Speciale, St. Germain, Laphroaig (invecchiato 10 anni), Burdock Roots, Cranberry e Sweet Paprika. Il ricavato della vendita dei quadri presenti nel book, andrà interamente devoluto all’Acquario di Genova a favore del progetto di ricerca cetacei nel santuario Pelagos.

Orso Polare is an intense mix of flavors and aromas: Ketel One Vodka, Etna Bitter, Angostura Bitters, Tarragon, Mango and Nitrogen Liquid; Tartaruga is a brightly-colored and sweet blend of Patron Silver Tequila, Leche de Tigre, Lemon, Coconut Milk and Chili Agave; Pappagallo Gigante is a spicy and smoked cocktail, evocative of South-American landscapes, and born from the marriage of Bitter Martini Special Reserve, St. Germain, Laphroaig (aged for ten years), Burdock Roots, Cranberry and Sweet Paprika. Proceeds from sales of the paintings in the book will be fully donated to Genoa’s Aquarium to fund the cetacean research project in the Pelagos Sanctuary.
