DUBAI EDITORIAL

A PASSION FOR BEAUTY In a city that’s all about excellence, the cover of our latest issue features Marcell Jacobs, the fastest man in the world, winOlympics, who talked to us about all the commitment and hard work needed to achieve success at this kind of level, but also about his love of travel and for Dubai, where he often likes to come to relax. Telling us about his Dubai is also H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, whose love for Italy and Made in Italy has led him to become the honorary President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UAE. Passion is truly the driving force to grow and excel, exactly as they do at Maranello, where the new Ferrari 296 GTB has just been released, as does Stefano Ricci, who in our interview takes us into the world of men’s fashion and th anniversary. And as do Andrea Di Giuseppe, who brings Italian design to the world through his mosaics, and Tonino Lamborghini, with his new hospitality and real estate projects. Opened only recently, but already considered one of the world’s most beautiful museums, we couldn’t not take you to the Museum of the Future, Dubai International Financial Centre multinationals, but is also famous for its numerous high-end restaurants and in search of Dubai’s best beach clubs, which offer a combination of relaxation and luxury. As exclusive as the incredible experiences offered by some of the city’s best hotels, which we tell you about together with the signature dishes of the Italian restaurants not to be missed in Dubai.

THE POWER OF SIMPLICITY text Virginia Mammoli

@DARIOCECCHINIMACELLAIO

You went from being a vet student to being a butcher in order to carry a 250-year-old family tradition. Yes I did, and it may seem contradictory, perhaps even absurd. But what spurred me to study veterinary medicine was to be able to embrace the country’s culture and traditions and be helpful to the world I was raised in. Added to this fact, is my philosophy that is based on respect for animals - to allow them to roam freely and provide them good food in their lifetime and upon their death, use every part of their body in cooking, from nose to tail. What is it like to be the world’s most famous butcher, as the New York Times described you? What is important to me is to be the butcher of Panzano in Chianti, my small community that I love so deeply. How did you come up with the idea of Carna? The American SLS Brand was looking for something new as vors and cuts. A more sustainable concept, going beyond beef me, dishes such as heart kebab and our assortment of boiled meat. I’m a butcher who cooks, I don’t need to wow customers with special effects, but just cook meat in the simplest way possible. Bringing this kind of dishes to a luxury hotel in Dubai was quite challenging. How are things going? Very well. The restaurant has already been awarded some recognitions, such as FACT ME in the Favourite Newcomer Commended Steakhouse. You are also known for being a butcher-poet and you’ve recently become a writer. What other poets or writers, besides Dante, are you fond of?

MY PHILOSOPHY IS BASED ON RESPECT FOR ANIMALS MAKING SURE THAT THEY HAD A GOOD LIFE, SPACE TO MOVE AROUND, GOOD FOOD AND AN HONEST DEATH

Mario Spezi, a Florentine friend of mine and a crime news reporter. Instead, Alessandro Rossi and I enjoy writing crime stories set in Panzano. Any new plans for the future? A new restaurant with the Moretti family, the producers of Bellavista sparkling beverage, and a moustache club that I would like to open at my friend Paolo’s barber’s shop in Panzano. 12

In my opinion, Dubai is one of the best cities in the world. It has the sea, the desert, and then the mountains are just a short drive away. Why another branch? Our purpose is to bring the Italian and the Emirati culture closer in order to bridge the gap between different thoughts and artistic expressions. Art is a universal language and makes the integration between peoples easier. Our artistic offerings are varied, but we focus mainly on sculpture in step with the tradition of Pietrasanta and the Versilian Coast, so rich in bronze and marble workshops. FABIO PIRICÒ, BTW GROUP GENERAL MANAGER OF NAMMOS RESTAURANT AND BEACH CLUB text Teresa Favi

@NAMMOS.DUBAI

NAMMOS IS AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE, EVERYTHING IS EXITING AND PLANNED IN THE SMALLEST DETAILS TO ENJOY EVERY SINGLE ASPECT

What is the philosophy of Nammos restaurant and beach club? Nammos is all about endless fun and boundless luxury on the golden beaches of the Middle East. The mission is to find the perfect combination of Mediterranean panache and elegance! What atmosphere and what layout welcomes guests at Nammos Dubai? Once inside the restaurant, the attention of the staff and the building make the customer immediately feel welcomed and pampered by an enchanting, cheerful atmosphere, in a fascinating ambience that is a perfect blend of different styles. What are the most exclusive services that leave even the most demanding customer speechless? All the services we offer can be considered as such. Our philosophy is to take care of all our guests in every single detail. Everyone must be able to fully enjoy the Nammos experience. And the most exciting experiences? We have created great events, with guest appearances by leading figures from the world scene. But here every day is an exciting experience that starts from the beach, where the customer can relax, kissed by the sun, touched by the sand of the Middle East and taste our specialties. They can then continue to the restaurant, where they can choose between a wide range of Mediterranean dishes, based on fresh fish from Greece and beautiful meat selection, with a Japanese fusion influence. All wrapped in an incredible joyful atmosphere where you can dance and have fun. Your cuisine in a few basic concepts? Food, for us, is an art form, a transcendent experience. A story of love at first bite! What do you love about the spirit of Dubai? It is a beautiful city, quiet and safe, the perfect expression of how one can live together in a multicultural and multi-ethnic country. I am fascinated by how in 50 years it has managed to make a radical change by becoming an international reference point. What are your three high-vibe places in town or around the city? I can only think: Nammos, Nammos Dubai, Nammos Four Season Jumeirah. Welcome to Dubai, Welcome to Nammos! 18

TRADITION, CULTURE, DESIGN, SOPHISTICATION, HIGH-QUALITY FOOD AND BEVERAGE, SERVICE, LOCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT

How important is your collaboration with chef Vito Mollica? Thanks to his experience on the international scene, Vito quickly understood the demands of a city like Dubai. I couldn’t have a better partner; we were immediately in agreement on how to take the project forward in the best possible way. What’s the philosophy behind the new restaurant? It’s intrinsic in the name: tradition, culture, design, sophistication, high-quality food and beverages, service, location and entertainment. Vito Mollica’s dishes focus strongly on the raw ingredients; where do they come from? We work with the best suppliers in Dubai, who, in turn, work with top Italian and international companies to source the excellent products Vito needs to create our menus. A dish we shouldn’t miss. Vito’s cult signature dish: cacio e pepe cavatelli pasta with marinated red prawns and baby squid. You’ve lived in Dubai for 14 years; why did you choose it? I quickly saw Dubai’s potential and felt it could become an international capital for hospitality, which I really wanted to be part of. What are the most noticeable trends on the Dubai restaurant scene? it is in New York, Los Angeles and other world capitals. The expectation is always that it should be an experience, and the restaurant is seen as a place not just to eat dinner, but to spend the whole evening, with a particular focus on design, location, quality food, the beverage list, the lounge bar and the atmosphere. Its purity and uniqueness: no two pieces of marble are exactly alike. And what makes your marble unique? Its shade of white and veins. Your favorite variety and why? White statuary marble, because it gives a warm and natural brightness wherever it is installed. Three works which have been made by using your marble? The One World Trade Center skyscraper in New York, known as the Freedom Tower, the Arche de la Défense just one is covered with statuary marble, the other two with white Carrara marble (over one million square meters for Mecca). As for design, Erodescape, the work that Kengo Kuma, the master of lightness, has made for us. Your furniture cult product? Cubik-A marble sofa. What values and products of yours are the most popular with the Emiratis? The uniqueness, beauty and exclusiveness which distinguish our marbles and allow to build a wonderful villa or skyscraper according to the parameters of sustainability and by designing in a responsible way. Doing our job also bringing minds and cultures closer together and being aware of it. I believe that these are the foundations crucial to prosperity and development and to growing along with our partners. Your Dubai described through some of your favorite places? I’ve met very few men with such a deep passion for beauty and life and even fewer men who have been able to pour all this into unique creations of the highest craftsmanship. I was shocked by the fact that such big names, which I saw as the culmination of a career, were instead my starting point. But Florence is also my main source lections, I drew inspiration from the coffered ceilings of Florentine palazzi. Among the amazing places where you have introduced your collections in the past 50 years there is also Florence.

I would have never expected that it would become what it is today. I had the feeling that it was still a small town, on the outskirts of the desert, overlooking the sea. Today the skyline is completely different, seen from both the land and the sea. A spectacular growth. Menswear is not your only passion.

Short Chassis, a quite rare car which, although nearly one hundred years old, has still amazingly high-performance. I love Aston Martin cars for one reason: because when you drive them you feel like you’re travelling with those who built them. It is no chance that the car makers’ names are engraved on a nameplate. A passion which, just like the company, you share with your family. I have been able to get my family totally involved in all my dreams. ADVENTURES AND RELAXATION

FROM THE DESERT TO A TRIP ON THE CREEK. HERE’S HOW TO ENJOY DUBAI THROUGH THE MOST EXCLUSIVE EXPERIENCES FROM ITS HOTELS text Virginia Mammoli 111

The Royal Suite at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

DUBAI ITINERARY

For today’s hotels, exclusivity doesn’t only mean extraordinary installations and luxury facilities, but also - and perhaps above all - the availability of experiences that allow visitors to enjoy the destination in privileged and unexpected ways. In particular, when the destination is a place as extraordinary as Dubai, where you can go from ancient to ultra-modern and from water to desert in the blink of an eye. So get ready for an unforgettable stay. When a hotel is one of the city’s most celebrated sites, the opportunity for a visit is one of the most exclusive experiences possible in itself. The hotel in question is the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, the “sail”, as it’s often nicknamed, due to its unmistakable silhouette, which stands out against the Gulf of Dubai. This record-breaking hotel is open not only to its own guests, but also to anyone wishing to marvel at its splendid spaces and learn its story by booking the Inside Burj Al Arab is accompanied by a butler and even includes the Royal Suite, which has accommodated celebrities including Nelson Mandela, Justin Bieber and Lewis Hamilton, followed by the Experience Suite, where you can learn about some of the most famous events to take place on the Burj Al Arab private helipad,

for training sessions between the then world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and boxing guru Seb Eubanks). To round off the tour, try the famous another of their special drinks. Staying with the Jumeirah hotel group, there’s also the spectacular Abra Tour, an excursion on the Dubai Creek on board an authentic traditional boat: a magical way to see the city from a unique perspec-

tour to an hour for two people, including beverages or afternoon tea, or a tour at sunset, the most scenic time of day, with caviar or strawberries and chocolate. Now we’ll look at the two Four Seasons hotels, which have partnered with Platinum Heritage to create The Great Desert Escape, an incredible and thrilling luxury cruise in the Arabian desert on board a Range Rover pickup. Guests are taken to the Private Heritage Desert Camp, where they can experience life in a Bedouin village, enjoy a genuine Arabic dinner prepared using local ingredients, savour the intoxicating aroma of gahwa coffee made over the coals, and try out the steps of an Emirati tribal dance. And Four Seasons beds in the Royal Bedouin tents, and the sight of the sunrise from a hot-air balloon. Finally, guests are treated to a traditional breakfast to conclude the great adventure. And if you’re staying at the Four Seasons Hotel DIFC and prefer citybased experiences? No sooner said than done: the Four Seasons team know how to design itineraries to suit all tastes, such as the tour for art lovers wishnational Financial Centre (Empty Quarter, The Farjam Foundation, Opera Gallery, Tabari Gallery and Sconci Gallery), or a delicious and fascinating guide to choosing the perfect restaurant according to your zodiac sign from the countless options available. An example? the unexpected, spicy and aromatic dishes at Shanghai Me for Aries, the family atmosphere of Gaia for Cancer, and a classy dinner at Zuma, shared with a special person, for Gemini. The Bvlgari Resort Dubai also has a few cards up its sleeve. At the far end of the resort’s Marina is recreates the charm of a Mediterranean village in
