Parece que este año por fin nos sacudiremos la crisis como a perro que le quitan pulgas, o eso dicen desde numerosos y entendidos foros. Llegó el mes de Abril y con ello se abren las puertas a la llegada masiva del turismo. En un principio se prevé buena ocupación en Semana Santa y parece que poco a poco y hasta Agosto superaremos las cifras del año pasado, esto es buena noticia para todos. Es en este mes, que cumplimos 20 años (Abril de 1995), cumpliendo la cita bimestral con nuestros fieles lectores locales, y con la labor de informar durante este tiempo a los miles y miles de turistas llegados a nuestra ciudad de las actividades culturales, lúdicas y gastronómicas de la zona, nos hace merecedores de lucir con orgullo, ser la publicación más veterana de Marbella y su entorno, que no es poco, dado los tiempos que corren. La Primavera es cuando se inician y aumentan las actividades culturales y lúdicas-festivas en nuestra zona. Todo un abanico de posibilidades que acompañadas del magnífico clima que disfrutamos nos sugiere salir a disfrutar con la Ruta de la Tapa de Primavera en su octava edición, el mes del libro con presentaciones de libros, lecturas y talleres, el Festival Marbella Todo Danza, Excursiones Culturales por el Patrimonio Histórico de nuestra ciudad, así como exposiciones, obras de teatro y conciertos. April has arrived, and with it the doors open to the en masse arrival of holidaymakers. In principle a good occupation level is predicted for Easter Week and it seems that, building up to August, we will exceed last year’s figures. This is good news for everyone. This is the month where we complete 20 years (April of 1995), meeting our 2-monthly appointment with all our faithful local readers, and with the task of informing the thousands and thousands of visitors to our town over this period on the cultural activities, entertainment and gastronomy offer in the area. This permits us to proudly boast of being the longest-living publication in Marbella and the surrounding area, which is no mean feat, given the current climate. Spring is when the cultural activities, entertainment and festivals commence and increase in number in our area. A whole range of possibilities go hand-in-hand with the magnificent climate. It invites us to go out and enjoy the Spring Tapa Circuit now in its 8th edition, the Book Month with book presentations, lectures and workshops, the Marbella All-Dance Festival, Cultural Excursions around the historical heritage of our town, plus exhibitions, theatre and concerts. Piedras Preciosas, protagonizado por Rafael Amargo y Manuel Salas. Piedras preciosas juega a imaginar la relación de
Cocteau con Manuel, su aprendizaje mutuo y el especial cariño que se profesaron el uno al otro. La historia (en parte real, casi toda soñada) que cuenta está inspirada en testimonios reales de vecinos de Marbella y en algunas piedras de la playa pintadas por Cocteau halladas en la casa del bailaor. Venta de entradas en Taquilla del Teatro y en El Corte Inglés. “Piedras Preciosas”, starring Rafael Amargo and Manuel Salas. “Piedras Preciosas” (Gemstones) plays at imagining Cocteau´s relationship with Manuel, their mutual learning and the special affection they felt for each other. The story (in part real, almost entirely a fantasy) narrates events inspired in true testimonials of residents of Marbella and on some beach stones painted by Cocteau, which were found in the dancer´s home. Esta construcción se encuentra enclavada en el centro histórico de la ciudad y es la única que se ha conservado de la época musulmana. La medina de Marbella fue una de las ciudades más importantes de la “Rayya” (provincia de Málaga). La Marbella amurallada de los musulmanes abarcaba aproximadamente una superficie de 90.000 metros2. Sobre esta reducida área se extendería una trama de estrechas callejas, que todavía hoy conserva su trazado. This construction is set in the historic centre of the town and it is the only one conserved from the muslim era. The medina of Marbella was one of the most important cities or the “Rayya” (province of Malaga). The fortified Marbella of the muslims covered approximately a surface of 90.000 square metres. YACIMIENTOS ARQUEOLÓGICOS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
Basílica Paleocristiana Vega del Mar (San Pedro) (s. IV). Rodeada por una necrópolis visigoda con más de 180 enterramientos de distinta tipología. Única en la Península Ibérica. Bóvedas o Termas de Guadalmina (San Pedro) (s. II-III). A 500 m de la Basílica. Además de su uso higiénico, eran un punto de reunión social. Villa Romana de Río Verde (Marbella) (s. I). Edificada como finca rústica en la que se desarrollaban actividades agropecuarias, en especial la fabricación del garum, pasta de diversos pescados cuyo precio alcazaba cifras exorbitantes en Roma. Monumento declarado Bien de Interés Cultural por la Junta de Andalucía, y protegido con el máximo nivel en el Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz.

Roman Villa at Río Verde (Marbella) (1st C.) Built as a country estate where fish farming activity took place, particularly the preparation of “garum”, a fish paste made from different fish, that commanded exorbitant prices in Rome. It has been declared a Monument of Cultural Interest by the Regional Government of Andalusia and is protected as being a high level example of the Historic Heritage of Andalusia.

Situated in the Villalón Palace, in the heart of the historic centre, the permanent collection is composed of some 230 works of 19th century Spanish art, with a special focus on Andalusian painters (the Malaga artists Gómez Gil, Moreno Carbonero and Barrón will be hung alongside masters such as Zurbarán, Sorolla, Zuloaga or Romero de Torres).
A novel museum situated in the former Wholesalers Market and designed by Rafael Moneo. It is a dynamic place that is a reflection on contemporary art , bringing new trends to public notice.
