ola y bienvenidos a una nueva edición de la Guía Magazine D&N. Pasado el estrés de las fiestas de navidad y fin de año, nuestra cosmopolita ciudad se queda suspendida en el “limbo de la estacionalidad” y se vuelve más pueblo, más doméstica y privada. Son estos meses donde los ciudadanos y residentes habituales, tienen tiempo para descubrir y disfrutar de maravillosos rincones, paseos y visitas a pueblos cercanos. Enero se despidió con la asistencia de Marbella a la Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR Madrid 2016) con un moderno y funcional stand, después de 10 años de ausencia de este evento. Todo un acierto por parte de la Delegación de Turismo y sobre el cual hablamos en nuestra páginas interiores. Esta edición, se abre con los populares Carnavales de Marbella, San Pedro y Estepona, las exposiciones y talleres de Museo Ralli Marbella, el ciclo de Ópera de Cines Teatro Goya de Puerto Banús, también podrán disfrutar de la I Cata de Vino en el Mercado Central de Marbella, de la obra de Teatro “El Eunuco” con Pepón Nieto, y mucho más, exposiciones, conciertos, actividades, excursiones, etc… Se adelanta a finales de Marzo la Semana Santa, una explosión de tradición, sentimiento y belleza que inaugura la primavera, y que en este número 124 podrás encontrar toda la información de procesiones, recorridos y tronos de Marbella y Estepona. Now that the stress of Christmas and New Year parties is over, our cosmopolitan town is now suspended in a “seasonal limbo” and it become more villagey, homey and intimate. These months are when the locals and regular residents have time to discover and enjoy delightful corners, walks and visits to nearby villages. January came to an end with Marbella’s presence at the International Travel Fair (FITUR Madrid 2016) with a modern, functional stand, after 10 years’ absence from this event. A wise choice by the Department of Tourism and which we will comment on inside the magazine. This edition opens with the popular Carnivals of Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona, exhibitions and workshops at the Ralli Gallery Marbella, the Opera series at Cines Teatro Goya in Puerto Banús, and you can also enjoy the 1st Wine-Tasting Festival at the Marbella Central Market, the play “The Eunuch” with Pepón Nieto at the Theatre, and much more... exhibitions, concerts, activities, excursions, etc… Easter Week is early, coming at the end of March, an explosion of tradition, sentiment and beauty which heralds in the Spring, for which in this number 124 you will be able to find all information on processions, routes and religious floats in Marbella and Estepona. Esta construcción se encuentra enclavada en el centro histórico de la ciudad y es la única que se ha conservado de la época musulmana. La medina de Marbella fue una de las ciudades más importantes de la “Rayya” (provincia de Málaga). La Marbella amurallada de los musulmanes abarcaba aproximadamente una superficie de 90.000 metros2. Sobre esta reducida área se extendería una trama de estrechas callejas, que todavía hoy conserva su trazado. This construction is set in the historic centre of the town and it is the only one conserved from the muslim era. The medina of Marbella was one of the most important cities or the “Rayya” (province of Malaga). The fortified Marbella of the muslims covered approximately a surface of 90.000 square metres. YACIMIENTOS ARQUEOLÓGICOS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

Basílica Paleocristiana Vega del Mar (San Pedro) (s. IV). Rodeada por una necrópolis visigoda con más de 180 enterramientos de distinta tipología. Única en la Península Ibérica. Bóvedas o Termas de Guadalmina (San Pedro) (s. II-III). A 500 m de la Basílica. Además de su uso higiénico, eran un punto de reunión social. Villa Romana de Río Verde (Marbella) (s. I). Edificada como finca rústica en la que se desarrollaban actividades agropecuarias, en especial la fabricación del garum, pasta de diversos pescados cuyo precio alcazaba cifras exorbitantes en Roma. Monumento declarado Bien de Interés Cultural por la Junta de Andalucía, y protegido con el máximo nivel en el Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz.

Roman Villa at Río Verde (Marbella) (1st C.) Built as a country estate where fish farming activity took place, particularly the preparation of “garum”, a fish paste made from different fish, that commanded exorbitant prices in Rome. It has been declared a Monument of Cultural Interest by the Regional Government of Andalusia and is protected as being a high level example of the Historic Heritage of Andalusia.
