S
egún las previsiones de la temporada turística 2016 que da comienzo en estos días, todos los indicadores turísticos nos avisan que este verano volveremos a batir el récord de ocupación en toda la Costa del Sol, con el dato positivo añadido, del importante aumento del 15% más de gasto por turista. Esta estacional y pacífica “invasión” es la base de nuestra mayor y más productiva industria de nuestra zona. Por ello tiene que ser cuidada con mimo por los ciudadanos, comerciantes e instituciones. Los vecinos, con la práctica del civismo y la amabilidad, los empresarios turísticos tienen que añadirle además la mejora de los negocios, un comportamiento ético en el ámbito laboral y económico, ofreciendo la calidad y servicio que se espera de un destino turístico de reconocido prestigio mundial. Por otra parte, y muy importante, las administraciones locales y supra municipales deben tener ya preparados los planes de refuerzo necesarios para la masiva ocupación veraniega que se nos viene encima. Y después de esta introducción sobre estas lógicas previsiones, iré a temas más prosaicos adecuados a esta publicación. Marbella y Estepona, se transforman en estos próximos meses en el centro del mundo del glamour y la diversión con propuestas y planes tan atractivos como el Festival Ojeando, el Starlite Festival, la celebración de la Feria de Marbella, numerosos conciertos como Seal, Marc Anthony o Raphael, varias exposiciones en Marbella y Estepona, además de cine, mercadillos, y mucho más. ccording to forecasts for the 2016 holiday season which is just about to start, all the indicators point to this summer being one where we will again beat occupation records on the whole Costa del Sol, with the positive added fact of the significant 15% increase in spending per visitor.

This seasonal, peaceful “invasion” is the foundation of the greatest and most productive industry in our area. This is why it has to be carefully nurtured by residents, businessmen and the institutions. Residents, by being friendly and polite, businessmen in the tourism sector, apart from improving their businesses, should also display ethical behaviour regarding employees and prices, offering the quality and service that is expected from a holiday resort of renowned world-wide prestige. At the same time, and highly important, the local and provincial administrations should already have their necessary reinforcements in place to cope with the massive summer occupation that is quickly approaching. And after this introduction on the logical forecasts, I will now turn to the more prosaic matters that are more suited to this publication. In the coming months, Marbella and Estepona become the focus of the world of glamour and entertainment with such attractive proposals and programmes as the Ojeando Festival, the Starlite Festival, the Marbella annual fair, numerous concerts by artists such as Seal, Marc Anthony and Raphael, various exhibitions in Marbella and Estepona, plus cinema, street markets, and much more. Pareidolia es una muestra de catorce obras, todas ellas realizadas en acrílico sobre lienzo, varias de ellas de gran formato. Los títulos constituyen un ramillete de conceptos abstractos: “Impulso”, “Disparidad”, “Distinción”, “Vínculo”, “Contexto”… Sin duda, la obra de Astrid pertenece a la abstracción, a la más elegante, optimista y colorista. Esta construcción se encuentra enclavada en el centro histórico de la ciudad y es la única que se ha conservado de la época musulmana. La medina de Marbella fue una de las ciudades más importantes de la “Rayya” (provincia de Málaga). La Marbella amurallada de los musulmanes abarcaba aproximadamente una superficie de 90.000 metros2. Sobre esta reducida área se extendería una trama de estrechas callejas, que todavía hoy conserva su trazado. This construction is set in the historic centre of the town and it is the only one conserved from the muslim era. The medina of Marbella was one of the most important cities or the “Rayya” (province of Malaga). The fortified Marbella of the muslims covered approximately a surface of 90.000 square metres. YACIMIENTOS ARQUEOLÓGICOS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
Basílica Paleocristiana Vega del Mar (San Pedro) (s. IV). Rodeada por una necrópolis visigoda con más de 180 enterramientos de distinta tipología. Única en la Península Ibérica. Bóvedas o Termas de Guadalmina (San Pedro) (s. II-III). A 500 m de la Basílica. Además de su uso higiénico, eran un punto de reunión social. Villa Romana de Río Verde (Marbella) (s. I). Edificada como finca rústica en la que se desarrollaban actividades agropecuarias, en especial la fabricación del garum, pasta de diversos pescados cuyo precio alcazaba cifras exorbitantes en Roma. Monumento declarado Bien de Interés Cultural por la Junta de Andalucía, y protegido con el máximo nivel en el Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz.

Roman Villa at Río Verde (Marbella) (1st C.) Built as a country estate where fish farming activity took place, particularly the preparation of “garum”, a fish paste made from different fish, that commanded exorbitant prices in Rome. It has been declared a Monument of Cultural Interest by the Regional Government of Andalusia and is protected as being a high level example of the Historic Heritage of Andalusia.
