Congrats
ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT
Here’s what to do next
By Kelsie Dove
However it happened — spontaneously in conversation, alone in a favorite place or surrounded by friends and family — congratulations on your engagement! Accepting a marriage proposal marks the end of one chapter of your relationship and the start of the next. This whirlwind period before the big day provides an opportunity for planning, decision making and ensuring your wedding is everything you hoped for and dreamed of. So, what to do next? Here are some suggestions:
SHARE THE NEWS
You’ve just experienced the moment you’ve been waiting for. Naturally, you want to share it with everyone — and you should. Keep in mind that while social media provides a great way to spread the word quickly, it also lacks the personal touch you might want to have in this moment.
Consider calling or visiting your closest family and friends before sharing the news on social media. Sure, it may take a while and require you to keep your updated status under wraps for a bit, but getting to experience the excited screams, happy tears and bear hugs will be worth the delay. And you’re sure to still get all the love on social media, even if the news is a few days old by the time you post.
“Don’t put it on social media right away,” says Meghan Armstrong, who was married 2019. “Tell people old-school style so you’re not bombarded with, ‘Oh my gosh, I saw it on Facebook!’...Then, whenever you go out, tell everyone (even strangers) because everyone loves the joy of a new engagement.”
CHERISH (AND DOCUMENT) THE MEMORIES
The engagement period can be such a sweet time for couples, so be sure to take the time to enjoy it. Consider having an engagement party with your family and friends. Take a weekend to get away with your fiancé to spend a little time alone. Whether you choose to have formal engagement pictures made or take a lot of selfies, be sure to document the time together. Years into your marriage, you’ll be thankful you did.
“His grandmother snapped a picture of us the night we got engaged. We went over to her house to tell her the news, and it was her first response,” says Katheryn White, who was married in 2013. “I treasure this picture because 10 years later, I can see nothing but joy….
“The following weekend, we got a group of friends together and went to Bourbon Street to celebrate. It wasn’t an official engagement party — just a fun ‘FINALLY!’ moment.”
SET YOUR TIMELINE
Obviously, setting the wedding date will be one of the first decisions you and your fiancé make, and doing so will help you gauge when you need to throw yourself fully into the wedding-planning process. For short engagements, planning may need to start right away, but for longer engagements, you may want to take some time to just enjoy being engaged.
“I immediately jumped into planning and quickly felt overwhelmed,” says Jessilyn Griffith, who got married in 2020. “I wish I had taken a couple of weeks simply to ‘be engaged’ before starting to plan everything …. I had a year-and-a-half engagement, and I’d say I really didn’t need to start planning until around the 10-month mark.”
Heather Murray, who was married in 2016, says, “I had no desire to take it slow; I didn’t want to prolong the planning and wanted to get it over with! We did six
months from engaged to married, and I’m so glad we kept that part short.”
SET EXPECTATIONS AND DEVELOP A MUTUAL VISION FOR YOUR DAY
The perfect wedding may look different for you than for your partner. No doubt you will have many opportunities to practice compromising and communicating, which are great skills to carry into your marriage. By beginning the planning process with an honest discussion of what you both expect, you can hopefully curtail any explosive differences of opinion. Start with the non-negotiables, and work backwards from there. Also be sure to talk about the wedding budget. That means including parents if they are footing the bill.
CONSIDER HAVING A WEDDING COORDINATOR
While many people decide to tackle wedding planning alone, coordinators bring valuable skills and resources to the process. Having someone to direct, mediate and advise can make the difference between a stressful experience and a calm, enjoyable day.
“I wouldn’t have enjoyed my day as much without (my coordinator),” says Brittany Strebeck, who was married in 2017. “She was the buffer between me and any problems that came up on my wedding day, and it let me relax and enjoy my day.”
CHOOSE THE VENUE
Start looking immediately for your perfect place to say, “I do,” and decide as soon as possible. Even if you’re planning to have a long engagement, many venues must be booked months in advance, so time is of the essence.
PREPARE YOURSELF FOR UPS AND DOWNS
Wedding planning, engagement and marriage require mental and emotional fortitude. There will be wonderful moments you cherish for the rest of your life, and there will be equally difficult times you may hope you can forget. It is OK if (and when) the warm fuzzies wear off and the nitty gritty of reality gets you down. Find a way to recenter yourself and your relationship. Lean on your vision, but be willing to let go of the aspects that you established as negotiables.
“Find a statement that keeps you grounded, so when things go wrong during planning or on the day of, it calms you,” says Dee Dee Brooks, who was married in 2015. “Mine was, ‘At the end of the day, we’ll still be married.’ It reminded me where my focus should be and gave me permission to let go of some of the stress I was holding over little details about the planning aspect.”
A fairytale wedding worthy of royalty
Maycee Scardino Eargle had dreamed of her wedding day her whole life, and when she said “I do” on Dec. 2, 2022, the real thing exceeded her every wish.
Riding to the church with her dad in a horse-drawn carriage made the bride feel like royalty. She wore a breathtaking white ballgown fit for a princess. And standing by her side at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church was the man she’d long hoped for.
“He’s everything I’ve wanted and more,” Maycee gushes about her groom, Joshua Eargle. “I’m very blessed to be loved by him.”
MARRY ME
The pair met seven years ago while attending the University of Mississippi. On the day he proposed, Josh planned for Maycee’s sister to take her for a spa day.
They drove into Centennial Plaza, and to Maycee’s surprise, her future husband awaited her there. At the end of a bridge strewn with pink rose petals and lined with candles were large, illuminated letters that read “Marry Me.”
“He even had my engagement ring in a little, pink box with our initials engraved,” Maycee recalls. “Our parents, grandparents and siblings were all hiding behind one of the buildings on the property. It was perfect!” Josh had even arranged a surprise party to celebrate the occasion with their nearest and dearest.
‘A DREAM COME TRUE’
Maycee acknowledges that her family calls her “extra” for a reason, and her wedding was the grand affair she’d always wanted. More than 400 guests attended the nuptials, and the bride incorporated numerous fun elements that made the big day unique, starting with the carriage ride.
“My uncle even dressed in coattails and a top hat to escort us on the carriage,” Maycee says. “Then, when we arrived at the reception, one of my good friends dressed in an all-pink suit and top hat and served champagne to all the guests. He was a fan favorite!”
She credits her beloved late Granna for her love of all things royal, and to create a regal vibe, the reception featured a pink, British-style telephone booth where guests could leave keepsake voicemails. Maycee comes from a family of dancers, so the newlyweds and their loved ones danced the night away and even threw in some of their own choreographed numbers.
“We ended the night with a firework display before we made our exit,” she says. “It was a dream come true!”
“One thing I love about me and Josh is that we both really value family. We both grew up with very loving and close families... that is something I know we will continue as we begin our own.”
FOCUS ON FAMILY
As a wedding planner for The Wedding Collection, Maycee works with other brides to coordinate their dream days, and Josh is a physical therapist for Mississippi Home Care. Having returned from their Barbados honeymoon, they are settling into married life at home in Pass Christian.
“One thing I love about me and Josh is that we both really value family,” Maycee says. “We both grew up with very loving and close families, so that is something that I know we will continue as we begin our own.”
The couple’s love story is simple, she adds, but continues to grow by the day.
“I love that we’re still learning who we are as a married couple,” Maycee says. “It’s really been the best time with my husband.”

TIPS TO FIND YOUR
dream WEDDING DRESS
With all eyes on the bride on the big day, the gown is a focal point of any wedding. If you’re about to get married, you’ve probably heard that finding the dress is like finding your soulmate; When you know, you know.
And while some brides have sketched out what they want down to the last detail, others are undecided and have no idea where, when or how to start looking. Whichever category you fall into, take advantage of these practical tips for picking the perfect gown:
1. START EARLY
Begin your search for a wedding gown early enough to allow time for fittings and alterations. Ideally, start looking at least six to nine months ahead of your big day. The more time, the better.
2. SET A BUDGET
We know, talking about money is deeply unromantic. Nonetheless, you still must decide how much you are comfortable spending on your wedding gown, including alterations and accessories, and stick to it. If your budget isn’t as big as you’d like, don’t fret; beautiful dresses are available at a variety of price points.
3. RESEARCH STYLES
No matter where you shop, the first question from the sales associate is likely to be the same: “What are you looking for?” Before you hit the stores, peruse bridal magazines, websites and social media platforms to gather inspiration and get an idea of what styles and silhouettes you like. Consider factors like neckline, fabric and embellishments.
Ultimately, choose a dress that reflects your personal style and makes you feel confident and beautiful. Don’t feel pressured to conform to trends if they don’t align with your taste.
4. CONSIDER THE THEME AND VENUE
What’s your wedding vibe? Your answer can go a long way toward helping you choose the right dress. Is your celebration laidback and beachy, or upscale and elegant? Whatever feel you’re going for, your gown should complement the venue and theme of your big day. For instance, a beach wedding might call for something lightweight and flowy, while a formal affair may warrant a more structured, ornate gown.
5.
WHEN IN DOUBT, TRY IT ON
Don’t dismiss any option out of hand; you don’t know until you try it. Keep an open mind, and give any style a shot, even ones you haven’t considered or are convinced you won’t like. What do you have to lose? You might be surprised by what flatters you.
6. COMFORT IS KEY
Remember that you’ll be wearing your gown for several hours, so choose accordingly — and wisely. Ensure that you can move, sit and dance comfortably.
7. BRING SUPPORTIVE COMPANIONS
Trusted friends or family members, whose judgment you value, can be a huge asset in your dress search. However, be mindful not to bring too many people, as excessive opinions can be overwhelming.
8.
GO WITH YOUR GUT
When you find the dress that feels right, trust your instincts. If you can’t stop thinking about it and can imagine walking down the aisle in it, then it’s probably the one.
Above all, remember to have fun! Enjoy the process and trust that in the end, you’ll find the dress of your dreams.
Bridal trends kicks off with a timeless silhouette, a sweetheart neckline satin ballgown. A bow in the back adds an extra flourish — the bigger, the better. Brides seem to like the big ballgown princess feel, which is a true classic.
TIMELESS AND

top wedding dress trends
Bridal fads come and go, but some wedding dress trends have staying power. Janie D Roberson of Bella Grace Bridals and Formals walks us through the styles that have brides swooning.
“...it’s all about you and your day. Don’t ever second guess your ‘wow’ dress. Do not settle!’

As the year progressed, the trend edged toward form-fitting lace gowns, some with sleeves draped slightly off the shoulder. This trend was especially popular with brides who were remarrying or renewing their vows, or those who wanted to imbue even more romance into their day.
Hourglass-shaped gowns with a cowl neck, perhaps with just a hint of sparkle and pearls, also have been a big hit this year. This easy, breezy style is perfect for an outdoor or beach wedding! 3

Finally, my favorite trend — a dazzling fit and flare with all the bells and whistles. It starts with diamonds and ends with pearls all the way to the train. This is for the bride who wants it all — the more drama, the better!
TOP BRIDAL GOWN TRENDS NATIONWIDE
Curious what else is big in the world of bridal gowns? Check out these top trends from Martha Stewart Weddings and whowhatwear.com:
MAXIMALISM
Trendy brides this year want to make a big impression, choosing elaborate designs and details. This trend is reflected in the rising popularity of corset bodices, opulent lace and dramatic skirts with intricate trains
COQUETTE AESTHETIC
This trend focuses on flirty, feminine details; think chattily lace gloves, bows, florals and soft, romantic colors. This aesthetic is favored by brides who want to give a nod to nostalgia and ramp up the romance.
SUBTLE COLORS
White may reign when it comes to wedding gown colors, but other shades are continuing to gain traction. Expect to see even more brides wearing hues that make them feel the most beautiful on their big day, including soft pastels, blush and even light blues.
TWO-PIECE SETS
Versatility is one of the biggest benefits of a two-piece set, which lets brides mix and match tops and skirts or transition from ceremony to reception looks effortlessly.
Dress Silhouettes
Mermaid Empire A-Line
Fitted bodice through the waist and flows out to t he ground, resembling the outline of an uppercase “A.” Ideal for all body types. A fitted bodice highlights your narrowest point.

Structured or flowy, this dress is always easy to wear.
Structured or flowy, this dress is always easy to wear.
Empire has a high waistline located just under the bust line, and the rest of the dress flows out. Empire waist dresses mark the smallest point of your figure and flow to the floor in a very demure fashion. For those ladies who are less shapely, an empire silhouette adds more curves.
Fitted on the body from the chest to the knee, then flares out close to the knee. Ideal for slender frames and hourglass body types who are willing to show off their curves.

THERE IS A PERFECT DRESS OUT THERE FOR EVERYONE.
Choosing the right one has a lot to do with knowing what’s going to look great on you. You’ll know it when you find it. Not only will it feel right, you’ll love the way it makes you feel and that’s what is most important.
These six silhouettes are the most common dress shapes. The descriptions should help guide you to the one dress that was made for you!
Trumpet Princess Sheath
Narrow shape that flows straight down from the neckline to the hem.
Ideal for lean frames as the cut follows your body’s natural shape. The long, straight lines have a lengthening effect—great for ladies with an hourglass figure who are willing to show off their curves.
The “fairy tale” dress, with a fitted bodice, flairs at the waist with a full skirt. A slim-cut bodice trims the waist. Layers of fabric in the full bell shape make anyone look like a princess!
The “fairy tale” dress, with a fitted bodice, flairs at the waist with a full skirt. A slim-cut bodice trims the waist. Layers of fabric in the full bell shape make anyone look like a princess!
Fitted through the body and flairs mid-thigh. The cut is ideal for frames with small waists. Fits closely to the body until mid-hip then widens gradually to the hem (resembling the mouth of a trumpet).
Often confused with mermaid, but trumpet flairs from mid-hip, whereas mermaid flairs below the knee
LET THE DRESS INSPIRE YOUR
wedding jewelry
You said “yes” to the dress, and Gail Pav of Pav & Broome Fine Jewelry suggests making this the basis of your wedding jewelry decisions. “Make sure the style complements the dress,” she advises.
Here are Pav’s other tips:
METAL COLOR
Is the dress a creamy, off-white color? If so, the bride can lean toward yellow gold. If it is classic, stark white, then go with clean, neutral metals like white gold or platinum. Rose or pink gold can go well with both in some cases.
DRESS STYLE
• If the dress is classic and simple, then the jewelry should flow with that theme. Less is more. But when choosing “less,” it needs to really be a classic statement piece. If the bride’s hair is up, choose some Mikimoto classic drop pearl and diamond earrings. If her hair is down, then pick a straight-line diamond necklace or a big, juicy South Sea Mikimoto pearl and diamond drop pendant. But then keep the earrings very simple or go without.
• If the dress is over the top and flowingly romantic, then by all means go
all out with the jewelry.
• Is the dress vintage style? Choose actual heirloom jewelry or pieces that look like they were passed down from your grandmother Scalloped edges and milgrain looks would be appropriate.
• Is the dress nontraditional? If so, let the jewelry be as well. For instance, Simon G’s right-hand ring is a great wedding gift. However, it doesn’t always have to be newly purchased jewelry. Sometimes the most special items have a family story behind them.
• Is the dress edgy and modern? Then Gabriel & Co.’s diamond collar necklace with small vertical drop accents would be a nice contrast.
• Is it a barefoot beach wedding with a boho-style dress? Then keep the jewelry casual. Gabriel & Co.’s double-layered diamond station necklace and diamond anklet would be just what the occasion calls for. Stacking bracelets also round out the look. See Gabriel & Co.’s Bujukan bracelet line.
Bailey & Will
From middle-school sweethearts to happily ever after
By Jennifer Gentile
Like many middle-school romances, Bailey Mae Anderson and William Lee Garriga’s relationship started with a simple text message: “Will you be my girlfriend?”
Given their youth — Will was 13, and Baily was 12 when they met at East Central Middle School in Hurley, Mississippi — not many would expect the pairing to last beyond a few weeks. But the couple defied the odds through years of baseball games and beauty pageants, not to mention dating long distance in college, and they became man and wife on Oct. 21, 2023.
“What I love most about Will is that he is not only my husband, but also my best friend,” his bride says. “We have endured so many different stages in this life together but always find ways to have fun and laugh — even on the bad days.”
THE WEDDING
The day they wed was an exceptionally good day — beautiful and breezy without a cloud in the sky. Bailey, a former reigning Miss Mississippi and Miss USA contestant, wanted “royal wedding vibes” for her celebration at Biloxi’s White House Hotel.
“Our wedding could be described as very timeless and classic …,” she says, citing Catherine, Princess of Wales, as her inspiration. “I chose
an all-black-and-white color scheme with very minimal acrylic, gold and silver details.”
The elegance extended to the bridal party, composed of 17 bridesmaids and an equal number of groomsmen, with whom the bride and groom spent the morning.
“My matron of honor did my hair and makeup for the day, which was super special to me, as she also styled me the night I won Miss Mississippi USA,” Bailey says. “It was a very full-circle moment for us.”
Opting not to do a “first look” before the ceremony, Will and Bailey didn’t see each other until she walked down the aisle — a very emotional moment for them both. Their high school math teacher officiated the wedding and even wrote a poem about their love, which was read during the ceremony and is already a treasured keepsake.
Before entering the party afterward, the couple shared a private first dinner together.
“It was so nice to have that time to debrief and just talk alone before going into the reception space,” she says.
THE RECEPTION
More than 500 people attended the couple’s nuptials, including Lee Greenwood and his wife. The
acclaimed singer-songwriter was Bailey’s director when she was Miss Mississippi, and he electrified the wedding audience by performing his best-known hit: “God Bless the USA.”
Those in attendance also enjoyed the couple’s signature cocktails: the Mr. Mississippi for him (an old fashioned) and Mrs. Mississippi for her (strawberry lemon drop martini). The festivities were filled with sentimental moments, paying homage to their 12-year love story, but also were just a plain and simple good time.
“We did not leave the dance floor during our reception and had the absolute best night of our lives,” Bailey says. “I feel that the love we have for one another and for all those who took the time to attend truly radiated in the smiles that were glued to our faces for the entire day.”
A NEW CHAPTER
Following a honeymoon at Sandals Grande St. Lucian in St. Lucia, Will and Bailey have settled into married life in Hurley — the place where they fell in love so many years ago. Some of their plans are to build a house, start a family and raise God-fearing children in the Catholic Church.
If she knew then what knows now, the bride says she wouldn’t have been as worried about the small things. What matters most, she adds, is that two are coming together as one.
“The little details are so insignificant when you look at the big picture and are reminded of being surrounded by all of the people that mean the most to you,” Bailey says. “Your wedding day is only the first day of your marriage — a beautiful beginning to a new chapter.”

Dixie Newman & Richard Hawthorne
UNTRADITIONAL MEETS glam Hollywood
Wedding date: June 23, 2024
Photography by Tilley Photography
Was it love at first sight when Dixie Newman met her future husband, Richard Hawthorne?
Well, the bride says, yes and no.
Richard is a professional power lifter and the owner of Core Strong Living, which opened last January just a few doors down from Dixie’s Biloxi business, Jacked Up Coffee. Dixie’s mom started working out with Richard, and for about a year, he regularly hung out at the coffee shop on his downtime.
“Of course, I thought he was attractive, smart and such a kind gentleman, but we are total opposites,” says Dixie, who is also a Biloxi city councilman. “I did start to feel something for him but kept fighting it because of those differences. I’m so glad I let that ridiculous wall down or I would have missed out on the best thing God was trying to bring me.”
On their wedding day, the bride admired her groom’s “beautiful and nervous smile” as she walked down the aisle and her tears flowed.
“That moment truly was the best feeling, and I’d dreamed of how it would feel for so long,” Dixie says. “The butterflies were everything.”
Later, the couple enjoyed letting loose and getting down with their loved ones on the dance floor. Above
all, Dixie advises other brides-tobe to focus on what really matters: coming together as one under God.
“Let all the rest go; it doesn’t need to be perfect,” she says. “It doesn’t need to be expensive or huge or what everyone else wants. It also does not need to be traditional. Marry the love of your life, and celebrate with your loved ones … . Enjoy the moment, and take it all in.”

Wedding Planning checklist
10 - 12 MONTHS
This timeframe is the most critical when it comes to planning your wedding.
From a practical perspective if you are not an organized person, you should immediately hire a planner or a consultant to help guide you through the process. Many planners on the Coast also do fullservice design so you can have your cake and eat it too by telling the designer what you want and letting them assist you with all of the details. In some cases, a caterer or reception venue coordinator can help you with some details (linen choices, rental items, room layouts or seating plans). But generally, you want your chosen vendors to focus on what they are good at.
These are the items you should deal with immediately because in most cases, there are limited options depending on the size of your wedding.
During this time period you should:
Book your ceremony and reception venues. Select and inform your attendants. Begin developing your budget. Start your guest list.
Interview and book the following: Planner
• Band/DJ
Caterer Photographer
• Videographer Officiant
7 - 10 MONTHS
Purchase your dress.
Select your wedding party’s attire. Dress availability and alterations can take up to six months, so start this item as soon as possible. Have your guys fitted for their tuxedos as soon as possible as well.
Set up your wedding website, hashtag and handles.
Register at a minimum of three major retailers with online offerings and at least one local gift registry store.
Plan for your out-of-town guests. Reserve a block of hotel rooms at several different hotels with varying price points. These hotels should be as close to reception location as possible.
Settle on an invitation design and begin the proofing process. Your invitation may go through several renditions before it’s just right, so give yourself plenty of time. If you are planning on having your invitations hand addressed, hire a calligrapher now.
Start planning the honeymoon. Make sure your passport and any necessary shots are up to date if you will be traveling out of the country.
5 - 6 MONTHS
Meet with the officiant and then plan your ceremony. If you are required to attend counseling or attend classes related to your particular faith, begin these as soon as your officiant says to.
Arrange transportation for yourself and any guests.
Order your cakes.
Start your day-of timeline. Work with your planner and other vendors (DJ, photographer) to schedule any special moments you want to be sure are documented.
4 MONTHS
Buy the shoes you will wearing and bring them to your first dress fitting.
Purchase your veil.
Plan a hair and make-up rehearsal with your stylist. Make sure they are available for your big day.
Visit your DJ’s website and peruse his or her playlist. Be sure to let him or her know what songs you definitely want (especially your first dances) and more importantly, those you don’t want to hear at all. If you are planning on live entertainment, make sure they can perform your first dances or have the availability to play them digitally.
Plan the rehearsal dinner. Settle on the guest list and reserve the venue.
Finalize invitations and place the order. Some processes can take up to four weeks to print, so give yourself plenty of time to mail.
3 MONTHS
Don’t leave your toasts to chance. Ask a select list of people to give toasts or speak at the wedding or rehearsal dinner so they have time to craft a wellconsidered speech.
Plan the program and readings so your readers will have time to rehearse.
Second dress fitting. Plan to purchase your undergarments this same day.

CASH CONTROL
If the two of you are paying for your own wedding (which more and more couples are), you might want to head to your marriage counseling classes before you tackle this one. Setting a budget is easy, sticking to it is another matter altogether. Even if your families are going to assist with paying for your big day, you should be respectful of everyone’s budgetary limits.
Here is a list of the most common items you will need to pay for and a suggested percentage for each category. This is a flexible list and you may decide to spend more on one thing and less on another based on what is most important to you for your big day.
RECEPTION CEREMONY
Venue fees, rentals (tables, chairs, linens, tents, dancefloors), catering, bar, cake, decorations, lighting, band/DJ
Gown (don’t forget alterations), veil, bridal accessories, hair and makeup, groom’s tux, groom’s accessories (cuff links, studs, shoes, etc.), rings
PHOTOGRAPHY OTHER PLANNER
estimated budget acutal money spent $ 1% $
STATIONERY ATTIRE TRANSPORTATION
Save-the-date cards, invitations and reply cards, programs, thank you notes, postage.
Site fee, officiant fee, bridal bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, other floral/decoration (altar arrangements, candelabra, unity candle, pew markers, aisle runner), musicians.
Limo/for bride and groom, limo/for bridal party, transportation for out of town guests, (Most limos only carry about 8 people and most stretch Hummers only carry 10 to 12). If you have a large party, you may want to consider a party bus or running a shuttle. There are economical options for both. Be sure to read the transportation service’s contract VERY closely because they are sticklers for overtime and you willl be charged.
Welcome gifts for out of town guests, favors for reception guests, bridal party gifts.
FEELING NERVOUS OR HAVING STICKER SHOCK?
Changing your perspective can help. If you consider what you spend on a night out for dinner, drinks and entertainment, your per person cost is either about the same or a little lower. And remember, YOU are in control of your spending and the easiest place to save money is to be ruthless with your guest list!
From photo dashes to epic after-parties
PEACHY PERFECTION
Peach is making a peachy-keen comeback as the Pantone color of the year — “peach fuzz” to be exact. This soft, warm hue is taking over weddings in the most elegant way. From dreamy floral arrangements to chic bridesmaid dresses and even mood lighting, peach is proving it’s here to stay.
PHOTO DASH EXTRAVAGANZA
Wave goodbye to the snooze-fest of static line-ups; the photo dash is our newest obsession! Here’s how it works: The DJ blasts a catchy tune, and the couple poses in a scenic spot as guests dash up for a quick snap. It’s a whirlwind of smiles and selfies, ensuring that everyone gets his or her moment with the bride and groom. It’s fun, fast and fabulously spontaneous.

Elevate YOUR WEDDING
Transforming an event into an unforgettable experience
By Ginger Cook
Weddings are no longer just events; they are crafted, curated experiences designed to leave a lasting impression. As trends evolve, couples are finding new and innovative ways to infuse their personalities into their big day, ensuring their celebration stands out from the rest. Here are some of the latest trends and unique touches that can take your wedding to the next level:
IMMERSIVE GUEST EXPERIENCES
Personalized welcome kits: Gone are the days of simple welcome bags. Couples are now curating personalized welcome kits that include local goodies, custom itineraries and thoughtful touches like snack bags or personalized notes for each guest. These kits not only make guests feel special but also set the tone for the entire celebration.
Interactive food and drink stations: Think beyond traditional catering with interactive food and drink stations. From build-your-own taco bars to craft cocktail stations, these setups impress guests and make dining a fun, memorable part of the day.
Entertainment variety: Incorporating various forms of entertainment throughout the night can keep energy levels high and guests engaged. Consider a live band for the ceremony, a DJ for the reception and perhaps even a surprise performance or a late-night silent disco to keep the party going.
UNIQUE DECOR AND AMBIANCE
Eco-friendly elements: Sustainable weddings are on the rise. Couples are opting for eco-friendly decor like potted plants that can double as guest favors, recycled paper
invitations and biodegradable confetti. These elements not only enhance the aesthetic but also benefit the environment.
Themed experiences: Themed weddings are becoming more popular, allowing couples to fully immerse their guests in their chosen motif. Whether it’s a whimsical fairytale, a rustic countryside retreat or a glamorous Great Gatsby-inspired soirée, thoughtful details like themed decor, costumes, and coordinated music can transport guests to another world.
Statement installations: Make a bold impression with statement installations, such as oversized floral arches, hanging greenery or custom light displays. These showstopping pieces not only serve as stunning backdrops for photos, but they also add a unique and personal touch.
INTERACTIVE AND PERSONAL TOUCHES
Guest participation: Encourage guest participation with activities like a collaborative art piece, a photo booth with props related to the couple’s story or a video message station where guests can leave heartfelt messages. These interactive elements create lasting memories and keep guests entertained.
Custom keepsakes: Providing guests with custom keepsakes, such as personalized candles, bespoke jewelry or handmade crafts, ensures they leave with a tangible memory. These unique favors reflect the couple’s personality and add a special touch to the celebration.
Live streaming: For those who can’t attend in person, live streaming has become a popular trend. This ensures that all loved ones, regardless of location, can be part of the special day. It also allows for creative opportunities, like incorporating remote guests into speeches or toasts via video.

Boost your WEDDING LOOK
From updos to smoky eyes, glam up and make a statement
By Bria Fowler
As a Gulf Coast native, I’ve seen my hometown through many lenses. Growth has spread from city to city, and there’s always something going on. From weddings to galas to fundraisers, our social calendars on the Coast are always full, and we want to show up looking our best. I’m happy to help and to share some ways to elevate your event look.
UPDOS
Whatever event you’re attending, a classy updo is always appropriate. While updos have remained popular, the most requested types have changed with the times. For instance, the high messy bun has reappeared from the ‘90s, but lately, this style has been enhanced. Adding intricate fishtail braids, dainty bows or even pearl embellishments can make the look more detailed and eye-catching. This style will always be a winner for weddings and evening parties to bring elegance and sultry vibes.
BLUSH
Challenge yourself with a new blush from brands like Juvia’s Place or Rare Beauty. Whether you’re wanting a soft pink, glowy orange or bold plum, blush can be for everyone and for every event. While blush can seem intimidating, the great thing about this product is that it’s buildable. You can wear as little or as much as you desire. Trying blush at home lets you see where your comfort level lies before you take your look public. Your rosy glow can be a personal triumph or a delight for the world to see.
THE FEATHERED BROW
The constant evolution of makeup trends means we often find ourselves at the crossroads of staying behind or riding the tide of change. In the past, eyebrows were sculpted and carved to perfection, but recently, that approach has been softened by the feathered brow trend. This look showcases the natural brow, but tamed. To achieve it, simply brush either a pomade or gel through the eyebrows and do minimal filling.
THE BROWN SMOKY EYE
As far as I’m concerned, a matte neutral will always be in style. The brown smoky eye is the alluring favorite right now and can be simple to achieve. Use a jumbo eye pencil in a matte brown shade on the lid to serve as the foundation for this look. Next, using a brush or the pad of your finger, you can soften the harsh edges of your initial application. On top of your diffused cream shadow, use a fluffy brush with a brown eye shadow. Use this all over the lid and soften the edges near the eye crease. Finish with either a false lash or mascara.
A personal mantra for myself lately has been, “Your anxiety is lying to you.” Go ahead and buy the eyeshadow. Put on the dress. Wherever you’re going, show up as your best, most confident self.

BRIDAL HAIR Effortless
By Bria Fowler
As an artist, I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be able to speak on something I hold dear to me. I love being able to be there for brides and their bridal parties on their special day. The trends lately have been soft and elegant. While the day warrants an effortless flair, as a bridal stylist, I know these soft styles have to last an entire day full of photos. When I add my touch, I strive to make it last. I’ve also been daring natural-haired brides to embrace their own natural curls, coils and kinks. I worked with a bride-to-be earlier this year on styled shoots, and seeing her embrace her beauty and natural hair with help from my skills has been so amazing. The smile that comes from her is so genuine when she sees herself in her truest form. That’s the moment I strive for with brides, the genuine happiness on a day to celebrate their love.
TIPS FOR THE BRIDES:
I would say have an open mind when it comes to your chosen style. The starting point will change based on your hair’s thickness, it’s ability to hold curls, length etc. Most styles brides fall in love with have an extra special something that makes the picture look flawless.
In reality, hair may have been added or an extra piece for fullness. When that understanding is made, we as stylist and client can come together to make something that’s unique and special for you. Also trusting that a seasoned stylist is trying to help your styles last longer with a tighter curl. Starting with soft curls looks beautiful and elegant for your initial pictures but what about when you get to the reception? Your wispy pieces are now completely straight, your stylist has your back when we give you that bouncy curl hours before your ceremony.
A connection and trust goes a long way on your special day!

Florals Florals
Pro tip: For that special touch, you can add a “something old” element to your bouquet, like a rosary, grandma’s brooch or small family pictures on a frame for remembrance.

Make your big day unforgettable with these floral trends
BLOOMING gorgeous
By Jean McGrury
Flowers are a focal point of any wedding, and they go a long way toward creating the vibe of your big day. If you want a standout celebration, check out some of the floral trends that are in full bloom:
WISPY FLORALS
This style is inspired by wildflowers and untamed gardens; think loose, airy bouquets and arrangements with flowers like poppies, ranunculus and cosmos. These arrangements typically are not densely packed and use minimal filler flowers or greenery.
BRIGHT, BOLDLY COLORED BLOOMS
White is a wedding staple, but couples are increasingly opting for colorful flowers in their wedding decor. This trend includes using a variety of colors and bold hues to create a vibrant, eye-catching aesthetic.
FLOWERS TO SPLURGE ON:
• Your aisle — If you work with the right florist, then a lot of the time, the flowers can be reused elsewhere,
• Your bridal bouquet — When else do you get to carry a giant bouquet of flowers designed especially for you?
HIGH-IMPACT INSTALLATIONS
Large-scale floral installations are becoming more popular. These can be used to create a dramatic focal point at the ceremony or reception venue.
MINIMAL GREENERY
While greenery always has been a popular choice, there’s a move toward using less of it in 2024 and allowing the flowers to take center stage.
FOCUS ON NON-FLORAL ELEMENTS
While flowers remain a major part of wedding decor, there’s a growing trend of incorporating other elements like pampas grass, dried flowers and feathers.
GROOMS’ POCKET FLOWER
I love this trend! They hold up so much better than a pin-on boutonniere.

BLOOMING love
a floral odyssey of the top wedding trends
By Martha Whitney Butler
As we look ahead to wedding season, the floral forecast reveals an enchanting garden of wedding trends that offer brides a myriad of inspiration. From timeless bouquets to elevated adornments, let’s embark on a journey that promises to infuse romance and elegance into every petal of your celebration.
PETITE BOUQUETS
For a truly dreamy, regal aesthetic, brides and influencers are turning away from larger bouquets and entertaining the prospect of petite bouquets filled with quality, premium florals. While small, these bouquets lend themselves to a classic and elegant look, reminiscent of royal bouquets. Demure as they may be, do not be shocked at their sticker price, as these bouquets take just as much time/labor for designers to create and often are filled with delicate, limited-supply flowers like lily of the valley. If you are startled by the cost of these hard-to-come-by blooms, consider mixing in permanent botanicals with live foliage and florals.
MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEMES
Following the trend of bridesmaids’ dresses, florals in different shades of one color are all the rage. Various shades of cream and white, purples and lavenders, blues, pinks and earth tones are having their day in the sun for 2024. This look lends itself to a cohesive overall theme while still promoting a diverse range of textures, blooms and greenery.
GROUND FLORALS AND AISLE MEADOWS
We love a grand entrance, and what could be more jaw-dropping than walking down the aisle through a beautiful field of flowers? One of the best parts
about investing in ground florals is that your designer can repurpose elements of this over-the-top look as centerpieces, stage florals or sweetheart table florals, or fill in any areas that may need covering. Talk to your planner to see if this option is available, as it is timesensitive. Ceremony flips can incur an additional cost, but the expense may be worth it to repurpose these arrangements.
WILDFLOWERS
Easily one of the most-requested elements of this year, wildflowers create a natural, organic look and a light and airy feel. “I want it to look like you went and picked flowers from a meadow” is a phrase we hear often. Fortunately for us on the Coast, we have a few local farms with long growing seasons. Your floral designer can procure, condition and design with these very delicate blooms because they can source them nearby, cutting down on shipping costs and damage. Farms like La Terre and Coastal Ridge offer a variety of unique flowers, as well as “you-pick” days that are perfect for DIY brides who want sustainable options.
BOWS, BOWS … AND MORE BOWS
We’ve seen bows trending on dresses for the last couple of years; now we’re seeing them everywhere — and we’re here for it. Bows around bridal bouquets, on garlands, on candlesticks — they seem to be appearing all over in every color. They add an element of interest and a nod to femininity and romance, giving a new meaning to “tying the knot.”

Delve into these delicious cake trends
By Brooke Rester
A cake is more than just a dessert; it’s a celebration centerpiece! From ornate icing and pearls to fruit and flowers, there’s infinite ways to put a personal stamp on your confection.
If you want a cake that feels of-the-moment, take some inspiration from 2024’s hottest cake trends. Here are a few of my favorites:
VINTAGE CHARM
Vintage cakes have made their way back into our hearts, and as cake makers, we could not be more thrilled! These cakes generally feature timeless, yet nostalgic, designs that evoke past eras. Elements often include delicate piping, sugar flowers, pearls, ruffles and, of course, lots of pastels. How enchanting!
PRESSED FLOWERS
Florals for wedding cakes? Groundbreaking. But this season, our brides are opting for pressed flowers with their natural, elegant and artistic appeal. This style can be used on buttercream cakes, as well as fondant or even naked cakes. Love an understated vibe? Scatter the flowers around the cake, leaving lots of icing showing through. Or if you’re going for a visually stunning look, cover the cake completely using lots of color and greenery throughout.
Pro tip: There are plenty of online resources available for ordering flowers that already have been pressed, but if you really want to have fun, you can pick out your favorites and press them yourself by placing them between sheets of parchment paper with a heavy object on top. Of course, be sure to check with your local baker or florist to find out which varietals are food safe.
PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS
Prince Harry and his bride, Meghan, ruffled lots of feathers back in 2018 when they opted for a confection without the grandeur and intricacies of a typical royal wedding cake. Their cake, while exquisite, featured unfinished edges at the top, which gave it a more relaxed feel.
That trend spread like wildfire, and to this day, it remains one of my favorite designs for any cake. Leave the edges as they are, or you may even opt for a touch of gold luster painted along the top for a more elevated finish. Trends like these emphasize a move toward simplicity and natural beauty, which reflects a more casual and intimate mood for your celebration.

5 tips to keep your event transportation on track
style
By John Hans
One critical aspect of any special event, and one that is easily overlooked, is transportation. Getting everyone where they need to be on time with minimal stress is essential.
Here are five transportation tips to help make your event a success:
1. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH:
Whether you’re planning for a wedding, prom or other special event, know what you want to accomplish and pick the correct mode of transportation. Each transportation type, from a private car to a limousine or bus, has its own use. For instance, taking the wedding party to the church or reception in a bus can be a wise choice, as it keeps the group and spirit of the event together. A unique vehicle is best suited for the bride and groom, and a sporty convertible is well suited for homecoming or
another event where you want to be seen.
2. DON’T DELAY:
As with most events, after you have determined your needs, contact the transportation company and book early. Nothing puts a well-planned event into a tailspin as fast as finding out your first choice of vehicle is not available on your date. We are now booking some wedding events in 2025, so plan ahead.
3. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR GUESTS’ SPECIFIC TRANSPORTATION NEEDS:
For instance, consider seniors and their needs, as well as children and those with mobility challenges. It may be helpful to offer certain guests different times or modes of departure.
4. PLAN YOUR BUDGET:
Unique cars, limousines and buses can get expensive. Once you have determined your transportation needs, request the prospective vendors’
hourly rates, accounting for overtime, fuel charges and gratuity. Ask each vendor how and when he or she wants to be paid. Know what your expenses are up front so you are not stressed.
Consider, too, that not all weddings or events require rental vehicles. If you are working with a limited budget, ask family or friends if they can transport some of the guests.
5. HAVE A PLAN B:
Any motorized vehicle can break down on the day of your event. It is best to have a backup plan for transportation so you can enjoy the day with minimal stress. Your backup plan can be simple and include friends, family or a standby vendor. The idea is to know that whatever happens, you’ve planned well enough that your event will proceed like a well-oiled machine.
You have put in all the hard work of planning your event, not to mention the expense of creating something that is unique to you and your guests. Above all, don’t forget to have fun!

SECRETS FROM A Videography
Planning a wedding is far from easy, and many couples get wrapped up in detailing the perfect day. It’s easy to forget vendors have gone through hundreds of weddings, and can provide invaluable guidance. Here are the secrets your wedding cinematographer wants you to know from Mattlan Lander, a six-year cinematographer and owner of Cinemattic Moments, LLC in Kiln.
YOU WON’T MISS A THING
By combining the quality of a moving video as well as sound design, video captures the entire essence of your day. You will be able to see all of your own emotions as well as those of your partner, your loved ones, and your friends. You will get to hear the ambient sounds of your day as well as your vows and even the sentiment in your voice when you say I Do. Video is an immersive experience that many say is the easiest way to relive their wedding day since it immediately takes them back to how they felt in each moment.
KNOW YOUR STYLE
When looking for a videographer, find one who best matches your style. Do you want a cinematic and timeless style of edit? Or would a fun and fastpaced edit better match the energy of your day? Watching a videographer’s work and portfolio can be a fun process to decide on what style would be perfect for the wedding you’re planning.
PRESERVE YOUR WEDDING DAY FOR THE FUTURE
Consider preserving the quality of your wedding film by finding a videographer who offers 4k Videography. We are used to seeing many videos on TV and online in HD or 2K. However, as video quality continues to improve, more and more of the content we see online and on TV will be upgrading to 4k.
INSPIRATION & COMMUNICATION
Look for inspiration, and communicate it to your videographer. If you see something in someone else’s wedding film you loved, tell your videographer so they can understand and execute your vision. Wedding videographers are happy to implement creativity into their job, your wedding film, and your wedding day.
