DAMEN YACHTING AT PALM BEACH
Damen welcomed visitors and showcased the Damen Yachting portfolio with a series of detailed scale models. Represented by the models were examples of the Dutch superyacht builder’s renowned Amels superyachts, the award-winning SeaXplorer explorer yachts and the Yacht Support Vessel range.
For the Amels range the focus was on the two latest Amels Limited Editions designs – the Amels 60 and the Amels 80 both of which feature exterior design by Espen Øino – and which have seen great success since their introduction to the market, with six Amels 60s having been sold since 2019 and two Amels 80s selling since the introduction in spring 2022. The recent launch of the SeaXplorer 58 has generated heightened interest in the SeaXplorer series with the SeaXplorer 60 being the design focused on for this year’s show. In addition, the YS53 from the yacht support range – a range that remains a very popular choice amongst the American market – represented the Damen Yachting support yacht series.

MAJESTIC MAJESTY 120
Gulf Craft’s Majesty 120 Superyacht was named the winner in the ‘Eco Award’ and ‘Best Naval Architecture, Semi Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts’ categories.
The vessel took the ‘Eco Award’ for the Majesty 120’s innovative energy-efficient heat recovery system. Gulf Craft has been developing new ways to improve the energy efficiency of its onboard systems and minimise electrical consumption, leading to smaller generators and lower fuel consumption. The new HVAC system, together with a holistic approach to the integration of other onboard systems, has been developed and installed on board the Majesty 120 in collaboration with Netherlands-based MAR-IX advanced HVAC systems. The systems significantly reduce the electric load on-board, saving more than 80,000KW per year for basic systems (like hot water heating and fresh air re-heater). The remarkably lower e-load ensures lower fuel consumption in the generators and lower shore power usage, which ultimately reduces the vessel’s carbon footprint,
resulting in a more sustainable operation as well as lower operational costs.
Gulf Craft was also awarded the ‘Best Naval Architecture in the Semi Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts’ category for its outstanding design. The Majesty 120 impressed BOAT International’s panel of esteemed judges with its energy-efficient naval architecture, along with maximising the indoor-outdoor living capabilities the Majesty line is known for.
The 2023 edition of the Design and Innovation Awards celebrated the very best in naval architecture, innovation and engineering across nine sought-after categories.

SUPREME LUXURY AT SEA
Superyacht M/Y AHPO, one of the world’s most luxurious and highprofile charter yachts on the market today, has been listed for a groundbreaking 330 million Euros. Hadag takes a closer look…
ommissioned by an experienced and knowledgeable owner, the 115-metre Superyacht AHPO Lurssen yacht was delivered in 2021 and is considered one of the most exciting new superyachts to enter the global fleet.
AHPO is the second craft that the team at Moran Yacht & Ship have built for the owner over a long productive relationship.
She boasts incredible volume and can accommodate 16 guests across eight immense staterooms. She has a further four staff cabins for pilots, a nanny or bodyguards and is attended to by a professional full-time crew of 36.
Moran Yacht & Ship broker, Kevin Callahan, said that M/Y AHPO is a one-of-a-kind yacht with incredible build quality and meticulous attention to detail throughout.
“The thought that went into her design and layout, along with the sheer number of materials used throughout, is incredible,” Callahan enthused. “The yacht’s guest amenities are world-class, from her full-service spa and beauty room to her gorgeous beach club and full-beam gym, one of the best gyms ever put on a yacht.”
He added: “She will appeal to an active owner or larger family as she has been purposefully designed to maximise family life and time spent on the water. Building a similar vessel would take around five years, so this is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire an almost new superyacht – with the major machinery still under warranty – that is truly unmatched.”

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR
AHPO’s exterior and interior design is by Nuvolari Lenard, a prominent Italian luxury yacht design firm.
One of the most striking exterior features of M/Y AHPO is her elegant half-moon windows and crisp white hull contrasted by sweeping stripes of black.
Her jaw-dropping interiors are designed with elegance and comfort in mind, with softtoned and contemporary-style furnishings throughout. Natural lines and organic patterns create harmonious spaces that encourage relaxation and foster a connection with nature. Her many features include a fully commercial helipad, a penthouse-inspired two-storey owner’s suite, an eight-metre swimming pool, several Jacuzzis, a 12-seat cinema with LED star-studded ceilings and a large winter garden on the aft deck that can be completely open or closed. Her garage is filled with just about every water toy you can think of, along with five supporting tenders, including two 12-metre one-off tenders from I.C. Yachts.
TECH AND CHARTER
M/Y AHPO boasts cutting-edge technology and engineering systems, including dynamic positioning for electronic anchoring, zero-speed stabilisers and Low E glass and heat recovery systems to reduce power consumption and ultimately the number of emissions generated. According to Callahan, AHPO has proved a popular charter vessel and was well received during her first Mediterranean charter season, with charter destinations, including the French Riviera, Spain, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica, Greece and Turkey. She has also cruised extensively around the Caribbean, including Jamaica. The success of her inaugural Mediterranean charter season proved that her operational costs can be significantly offset without difficulty.

WAVES WITHOUT LIMITS
Fliteboard, the Australia-based global electric hydrofoil innovator, has launched its most advanced range of eFoils, Series 3.
FFliteboard kicks off the new year with a collection of innovative new products, including the ULTRA L – the world’s lightest performance eFoil, a line of new board shapes, colours and finishes including a lower cost board range, Flite Jet, Dual Drive, Flitecell Nano and new mast and wing options.
Fliteboard’s latest release represents the purest expression of the ultimate ride, where users can pursue even more freedom and expression on the water. With design, innovation, performance and community at the core of the Flite brand, Series 3 promises riders more freedom and more life.
It introduces a variety of upgrades to Fliteboard’s existing products and a new model, ULTRA L, the world’s lightest performance eFoil with the integration of the world’s lightest lithium-ion eFoil battery, Flitecell Nano. The complete ULTRA L setup weighs in at just 22.5kg, with the lithium-ion eFoil battery weighing only 6.2kg.
Created with smart technology and safety in mind, the entire range of Flitecell batteries is made with phase change material for thermal management and premium high-discharge and low-temperature cells. Flitecell Nano provides up to 45 minutes of foil time, or more when riding waves, and can be fully charged in under an hour. Now positioned closer to the mast, the location and weight of the battery in the board allow for incredible manoeuvrability and minimal swing weight.
The new 80cm mast is perfect for taking on bigger waves, deeper turns and smooth riding over choppy waters. In the pursuit of ultimate performance, footstraps and handles have been stripped, as well as lightening the battery box by handcrafting it with carbon fibre. The board was created for experienced water sports enthusiasts with high design in mind. ULTRA L allows the rider to have the most agile and responsive ride to explore their Fliteboarding limits.
Elevating the user experience, Fliteboard has revolutionised its propulsion system –welcoming the addition of Dual Drive and the optional Flite Jet. Developed by world-leading hydrodynamicists on three continents, Flite Jet
is the world’s smallest and lowest drag eFoil jet. Made to be beautifully simple and engineered with precision, Flite Jet offers unparalleled smoothness and safety for riders.
As eFoiling evolves, riders want different types of experiences, so Fliteboard now offers a choice of propeller or jet power. With the development of the world’s first interchangeable propulsion system, Dual Drive, riders can choose their preferred propulsion option or seamlessly swap between prop and jet. The unique Dual Drive allows users to experience the best of both worlds in a matter of seconds, with no tools required. Series 3 also features two new Cruiser Jet wings that are perfectly paired with Flite Jet for the most stable and efficient glide.
A new range of board colours was inspired by the dreamy locations where customers go Fliteboarding. ULTRA L is available in metallic gold, inspired by golden sunsets in Ibiza; AIR is offered in matte coral, reminiscent of breezy days in Miami; and Fliteboard and PRO can be now purchased in gold and bronze, alongside existing metallics. Additional updates also include new board shapes and deck grips. Fliteboard’s Series 3 now offers a fibreglass range at a more accessible price point, without compromising design, durability or the performance customers expect from its original predecessor, Fliteboard. Starting at around USD11,000, the fibreglass range includes wings as well as a Flitecell Sport battery. Fliteboard and PRO fibreglass models are available in matte white, coral and saltbush, inspired by the wild sage of Amorgos in the Greek Islands.

A THOROUGHBRED PRANCING HORSE
Hadag recently journeyed to the Northern Alps to experience Ferrari’s first ever SUV.
inzolo is a small town in Val Rendena, Trentino, nestled in the northern Italian Alps. This beautiful part of the world was the setting for Ferrari’s first international test drive of their all-new Purosangue. Invited by Ferrari Bahrain to be among the select group of media to experience the brand’s very first SUV, Hadag was delighted to play a small part in this new chapter in Ferrari’s motor vehicle history. We’d like to thank the team at Ferrari Bahrain for including us in this momentous occasion.
OUR ARRIVAL
Treated like royalty from the moment we disembarked at Malpensa Airport in Milan, we were whisked away to the LeFay Resort & Spa Dolomiti in Pinzolo.
On the first evening of our stay, we received a briefing on some of the most innovative features of the Purosangue, an Italian name that translates to ‘thoroughbred’ in English. Ferrari designers and engineers, who had worked on building the car, were also present to educate us on the vehicle and succeeded in whetting our appetites for the following day. The next morning, we were up early and ready to go. Before being handed the keys, we were briefed on the SUV and received our first opportunity to properly inspect the vehicle.
EXTERIOR DESIGN
The skilful designers at Ferrari have constructed nothing less than a visual masterpiece in the Purosangue. As soon as the SUV came into view, we found our eyes darting over the bodywork, battling to focus on a single point before being distracted by the beauty of another.
The uniquely sculptured bodywork consists of two separate and distinct levels: the technical underbody and the sinuous upper body. This division is highlighted by the upper section seemingly floating on the wheel arches. The bodyshell comprises materials ranging from aluminium to carbon fibre and includes highstrength steel in crucial areas.
Every component has been crafted with aerodynamics and performance in mind. The more we took in the exterior design, the more we realised that every single aero element endows this one-of-a-kind SUV with an innate elegance. The Purosangue does not feature a front grille. It has been replaced by a dihedral suspended on the lower section. Two shells create a suspended disc form, complete with a slot that houses the camera and parking sensors. Daytime running lights have been perfectly set between two pairs of air intakes, that meld into the upper parts of the flanks. Another striking visual element is the long-sculptured bonnet, with its gently rounded muscles, that flows into wing-profile surfaces. These aerobridges create a sense of continuity between the front and the flanks.
Perpetuating the smooth flow of the exterior

design is the dihedral shape formed by the aerobridge theme at the sides. This design element seamlessly combines the SUV’s shapely flanks with its muscular rear end. The wheel arch trim treatment reveals the Purosangue’s second skin beneath the bodywork and helps to create the impression of a floating coupé. The 22-inch front and 23-inch rear wheels were specifically designed for this model and flaunt an elegant diamond-cut finish.
The athletic makeup of the rear end smoothly integrates with the tail, where a horizontal line incorporates the taillights at its tips. Further contributing to the visual sense of wonder are the imposing diffuser and the large rear wings. These elements combine to provide a sense of width and add to the car’s already sporty persona.
INTERIOR DESIGN
The Purosangue is only Ferrari’s second fourdoor creation, one that features automatic rearhinged back doors, ensuring a novel experience before even entering the vehicle.
Slipping inside the cockpit, we appreciated the supportive front sports seats offering every adjustment option imaginable. We were struck by the top-of-the-line materials used throughout the cabin and the sense of abundant space and overall comfort.
The ergonomically designed cockpit felt like a first-class lounge with its elegant and sporty layout. The luxurious nature of the contemporary interior exudes a sense of timeless elegance, along with a setup that would be as comfortable and effective on the highway as it would on a racetrack. The driver seating arrangement has been mirrored on the passenger side.
The Purosangue offers four seats, all of which are separate and independently adjustable. It also features Ferrari’s first rear dual passenger compartment, which assists in creating four distinct cabin areas in terms of materials, colours, volumes and functionality.
The front and rear occupants have access to comfort-related controls located on a hideaway rotary interface in the central section of the dash and a second rotary interface in the rear. Additional high-end features are located throughout the interior, including wireless charging points in both the front and back. When folded flat, the rear seating combines with the luggage compartment to form one large, flat surface, thereby greatly increasing the loading capacity and providing everyday practicality.
INFOTAINMENT & TECH
Ferrari has opted to divide the climate and infotainment interfaces in the Purosangue. The

climate interface has a dedicated centre-dash area operated via a physical rotary control. This central display regulates temperature, ventilation and seat settings. The driver and passenger can be involved in the driving experience, as they both have a dedicated display on which they can view driving stats and control the infotainment system. The driver's cluster has been fitted with a simplified interface and graphics, meaning the amount of information within it can be reduced at will, simplifying its use. Another great feature for the driver is the array of sports steering wheel-mounted controls. Despite there being a considerable number of them, these controls are quick and easy to identify when driving. This is thanks to indents and bumps on the buttons’ surfaces that remind the driver of their purpose with a stroke of a finger. All controls must be double-tapped; a feature created to prevent troublesome mistouches. One of our favourite features was the Burmester 3D high-end surround sound system, fitted as standard in the Purosangue. This audio system is hands down the highest quality option we have ever experienced in a car, and we loved the immersive sound experience it provided for us en route.
POWER & PERFORMANCE
The best moment of our day was when we set off on our journey through the awe-inspiring landscape of the Brenta Dolomites, the location of Trento-Bondone’s legendary uphill time trials. The sports car sound of the Purosangue’s naturally aspired, 6.5-litre V12 engine provided ear-to-ear smiles as we were pressed into our seats as the accelerator was engaged. The agility of this SUV truly surprised us, as did its deft handling of steep inclines, tricky bends and various surface conditions.
The Purosangue’s potent powertrain provides a maximum power output of 715hp at 7,750rpm, and 716Nm of torque at 6,250rpm. This translates to a 0-100km/h time of just 3.3 seconds, a 0-200km/h time of 10.6 seconds, and an impressive top speed of 310km/h! Not bad for an SUV weighing in at 2.1 tonnes. The seemingly unending power on offer combines with the newly designed chassis, the seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and the 48-volt electric motors, to deliver nothing less than an exceptional driving experience. No matter the terrain, we travelled in absolute comfort and sat in awe as the SUV effortlessly ate up the mountain roads.
Whilst we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch at Chalet Rocco Rosse, our cars were refuelled and cleaned by Ferrari mechanics, ensuring we were ready for our next Purosangue experience. This was a snowy route, running along Lake Toblino, back to our accommodation. Due to the tricky nature of the conditions, a professional Ferrari driver tackled the trail for us.
The Purosangue proved exceptional on slippery surfaces thanks to its Manatino Switch, which offers a selection of driving modes. These include Ice, Wet, Comfort, Sport and ESC off. We were honestly surprised at how easily the car and driver negotiated the challenging route, and at times we felt as though we were driving on the highway; it was that smooth and comfortable.
SAFETY & ASSISTANCE
Even though the Purosangue is one of the fastest road cars on the market, we knew we were travelling in one of the safest vehicles ever manufactured.
Besides the strength and quality of the materials used in its construction, the master designers at Ferrari have included an array of safety and driver assistance features to ensure the well-being of all occupants.
Along with airbags fitted throughout the vehicle, is an impressive array of standard driver assistance features. These include adaptive cruise control, an automatic emergency brake system, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, hill decent control, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness detection, a rearview parking camera and much more.
OUR VERDICT
In this review, we have hardly begun to sing the praises of both Ferrari and the Purosangue. In fact, we could have dedicated this month’s entire issue to highlighting its impressive range of design and performance features. A truly sublime automotive experience. www.ferrari.com
our models come entirely in steel, while the other two combine a black ceramic case middle with a steel bezel, lugs and case back. In addition to this new material, these timepieces feature a new aesthetic that emphasises both ergonomics and legibility as well as introducing new dials with a pattern that has been specifically created for the collection.
The six new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet references come in three timeless shades that reinforce the collection’s elegant and intricate aesthetic. The Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 colour is an iconic feature of the Royal Oak collection and makes its appearance on two new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet references. Two references are dressed in a mysterious green, leaning towards a khaki colour, with an inner bezel in the same tone. Finally, two models have a luminous aesthetic in tones of beige. Each dial tone is paired with a matching rubber strap decorated with a textile pattern and lined with calf leather.
This new evolution in the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection continues to stand at the crossroads between technical modernity and ancestral craftsmanship.
A Contemporary Collection
Since its launch in 2019, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection has been available primarily in 18-carat white or pink gold. In 2021 and 2022, the manufacture integrated a black or blue ceramic case middle on certain gold models, giving them a highly contemporary design.
This year, stainless steel makes its debut in the collection. Already present in other collections, steel is far less malleable than gold. The manufacture was able to draw upon its machining and finishing expertise to design and produce the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet cases in this new material. Featuring a complex architecture composed of stylised tumbled lugs, an ultra-thin bezel and an octagonal case middle, the case of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet is one of the most complicated ever made by the manufacturer.
Combining cutting-edge technology and ancestral traditions, the industrialisation of the case and the hand-finishing of its components require arduous programming, dedicated tools and highly specialised human skills.
The designers, engineers and artisans have therefore pushed the limits of their know-how even further to create these steel elements. In keeping with Audemars Piguet tradition, the stainless-steel components alternate between polished and satin-finished surfaces, playing with the light and providing captivating visual contrasts.
Dial Design
These six new 41mm references inaugurate a brand-new stamped dial with a pattern specially developed for the occasion. Made up of concentric circles that create a unique structure, this ripple pattern has a texture that has never been seen before on a Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet dial and enhances legibility. Developed by Audemars Piguet in collaboration with Swiss guilloché craftsman Yann von Kaenel, this motif provides a new signature design to the collection.
Aesthetic and Ergonomic Evolution
These new Code 11.59 models introduce a new design evolution into the collection and put an emphasis on comfort and readability. Firstly, new elongated hour-markers replace the Arabic numerals that have been present in the collection since its launch. Designed in 18-carat white gold, the hour-markers and hands are flattened, faceted and polished, creating a visual contrast with the new dial pattern with its intense dark tones. To enhance the legibility, the hour-markers and hands have been coated with Super LumiNova so they can be seen in the dark.
Encircled by an ultra-thin bezel, the inner bezel has also evolved. Audemars Piguet’s designers have reduced the steepness of its angle to reduce the difference in height with the dial. It has also been widened and given a smoother bevel for added visual impact. The new designs include a more detailed seconds scale, reinforcing the precision and modern style of the timepieces. The typography of the numerals has also been adapted.
The final changes to the collection concern the crown and the buckle. The crown is now more rounded with shallower, yet more pronounced indentations than on previous models. It is made of stainless steel and the two beige models have black ceramic caps. The bracelet’s buckle, whether pin or folding, swaps the long engraved Audemars Piguet signature for the AP monogram.

BELL & ROSS: MASTER MECHANICS
Elevating time craftmanship to a whole new level, Bell & Ross have taken their horology game to new heights. Hadag takes a closer look at two of the brand’s new creations…
BR 05 SKELETON GOLDEN
Watchmakers Bell & Ross have become the specialists in aeronautical-inspired watches. However, some of their timepieces take off to other exciting worlds.
In 2019, the brand launched the BR 05, a new contemporary family that is evolving while maintaining the house’s DNA. Integrated strap and case come together in perfect harmony. This watch is for urban adventurers.
The Skeleton collection, part of this family, has been a huge success since its introduction. With the open dial revealing its fascinating watch mechanism and details.
The Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton once again updates its look with the golden hue of the dial. This new Golden version is both urban and chic. The skeletonised version of the sporty-chic BR 05 collection sets the standard and adds a new colourful, refined and precious tone to the range. A jewel in the world of watchmaking but also in the world of design.
The reinforcement of the galvanised golden flange diffuses an amber light, with honey reflections creating a voluptuous impression. To maximise the readability, the large numerals, household feature of Bell & Ross watches, give way to baton-shaped applique golden indexes. The skeletonised baton-shaped hands are coated with Grade X1 White 10 Super-LumiNova, a substance with green luminescent emissions. Thanks to its translucent dial, this watch willingly reveals its mechanical mysteries. But it chooses to do so in a subtle way.
With this specific skeletonised movement, the BR 05 Skeleton Golden is aimed at fine watchmaking enthusiasts. Aesthetes attentive to design and to detail. They appreciate a form of pure beauty without any artifice. Intrinsically technical, as are all the watchmaking instruments developed by Bell & Ross, the BR 05 Skeleton Golden boasts a minimalist elegance to fit into the day-to-day of a modern lifestyle.
BR-X5 CARBON ORANGE
The BR-X5 collection represents a new chapter in the Bell & Ross history, a watch that follows on from the BR 05 and the BR 03, encapsulating a brand-new conception. With its avant-garde and daring design, attractive in its functionality, the BR-X5 symbolises the developments made by the brand to attract connoisseurs and lovers of fine watchmaking.
Faithful to its aeronautical heritage, the watch features the household ‘round within the square’ design, which allowed the French-born brand to be easily recognisable since its beginning.
It is at the heart of the case that lies one of the major assets of this unique collection. The automatic mechanism belongs to the world of manufacturer movements, making craftsmanship an essential feature of these models. The BR-CAL.323 calibre designed by Kenissi, a Swiss specialist movement-maker focussing on exclusivity, raises the BR-X5 to the heights of precision, an achievement testified by the ‘Chronometer’ certification issued by COSC.
Another great accomplishment for Bell & Ross, which set itself very high standards for its first manufacturer movement designed by Kenissi.
A large smoked-glass sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement finishing chosen by Bell & Ross to fulfil the desire for both aesthetic and technical perfection. Further evidence of Bell & Ross’ commitment to high quality is that the movement and the case are guaranteed for five years.
With the black marbling of the carbon and the various touches of orange, this new BR-X5 imposes its powerful, avant-garde and sporty look, which makes it more than just a watch but also a work of art.
Like the earlier models in steel, the latest BR-X5 Carbon Orange brings together two functions that are particularly useful in everyday life: an oversized vertical date and the power reserve indicator. This double display, which is as legible as it is distinctive, gives the BR 05 family a unique look while making it instantly recognisable when on the wrist.

SS23: THE SANTONI JOURNEY
Santoni Man SS23 symbolises a metaphorical journey that, nonetheless, encompasses glimpses of real, almost tangible, itineraries.
The environments, places, moods and feelings that accompany the Santoni Man throughout his life are palpable. The codes of formal blend with the casual and sporty spirit, giving life to a new aesthetic of the man’s world. A strong sense of freedom, a keen individuality and a relaxed attitude characterise this collection, where materials, colours, shapes, sizes and volumes create a contemporary image.
Through the perfection of its classic icons, Santoni speaks to the man who gravitates towards distinguishing objects that are true masterpieces of craftsmanship and design. The artisanal legacy of the brand is fully expressed through the entirely handmade creations, where every single feature is achieved through extreme attention to detail.
The men’s staples, from loafers to lace-ups and sneakers, feature sleek lines, fine materials and flexible constructions; the new models made of polished calfskin leather stand out. The leisure styles, inspired by an active lifestyle, convey a sense of effortless elegance and lightness and express the most colourful and playful proposal for summer.
Loafers – penny, double and single monk straps, with and without fringes – and lace-ups become soft and unstructured: calfskin with a particular washed-out treatment and suede in pastel and toned-down nuances are combined with light outsoles, in buffalo leather as well as in ultralight rubber bottoms.
Bags and small leather goods have the same effortless and relaxed appeal, defined by soft materials and modern lines.

MALDIVIAN MAGIC
No matter how many times you see a picture of the Maldives, its breath-taking beauty entices every time. Hadag stayed at the stunning Nova Maldives for a touch of winter war mth and world-class hospitality.
There are few locations on the planet that measure up to the natural splendour of the Maldives. The island nation is renowned for its sapphire blue waters, powdery, white beaches, green tropical forests and golden sunshine.
Resort Wonders
Positioned Southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 750 kilometres from mainland Asia, the Maldives is an archipelagic country, formed by 26 natural atolls, consisting of 1,192 islands. Nova is located on South Ari Atoll, a mere 25-minute seaplane ride from Malé International Airport. This scenic flight, although very comfortable, was too short to take in the full splendour of the surrounding views. By the time we touched down on the clear waters alongside the wooden jetty, we were relaxed and ready for our refreshing island adventure.
Awe-inspiring Accommodation
Nova offers an assortment of accommodation types. From cosy Beach Villas to a two-bedroom Beach Residence complete with private pool, the island resort has something for every requirement. We were happy to be housed in a Beach Villa complete with Jacuzzi. Overlooking the open ocean, it was a pleasure to simply sit and absorb the view from our private decks or from the temperature controlled Jacuzzi. Complete with king-sized beds, plush bedding, in-room high speed internet, flatscreen HD televisions, along with Apple TV, we wanted for nothing more over the four days in our lavish villa.
Cuisine Perfected
During our time on the island, we were thoroughly spoilt by our hosts, not least through the abundance of delicious dishes we were served throughout our stay.
SOUL KITCHEN
Soul Kitchen’s wide-ranging, mouth-watering menu is rivalled only by the incredible views on offer. Open from morning to night, this superb eatery offers generous buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
FLAMES
This fine-dining location offers some of the freshest and most succulent ingredients you could hope to find on your plate. Featuring everything from local fish, seafood and meat to delectable vegetarian options, the talented chefs ensure every dish is prepared to absolute perfection.
MIZU
Mizu is a picturesque overwater teppanyaki restaurant that offers a first-class menu of ocean delights. Pair this exceptional food with enchanting Indian Ocean views and you have an unrivalled dining location. We were taken by the delightful tropical flavours, created from fresh local ingredients, and served by the most attentive and hospitable of staff members.
WINK
A little later in the evenings, the nights truly came alive. The vibrant Wink provided all guests the opportunity to meet their fellow visitors, to hold lively conversations while enjoying cold beverages or a late meal. As music lovers, we were truly impressed by the talent and energy exhibited by The Kabans and their local rhythms. This local cabana band rocked the crowd with their lively music and spirited performances, often causing us to get to bed far later than intended.
Sunset Solace
There are moments in your life when you must stop and appreciate the adventure of it all. This was certainly the case as we headed off on our Indian Ocean sunset trip. We were privileged to spot dolphins playing in the water less than 50 metres from our boat. Witnessing a flawlessly beautiful sunset whilst appreciating these magnificent creatures in their natural environment is a moment we won’t soon forget.
Nova is a natural island and the sea’s gentle giants, such as whale sharks and manta rays, reside in the surrounding waters all year round.
Ocean Calling
Aquaholics is the name of Nova’s watersport centre. If you’re looking for excitement, relaxation, outstanding ocean views or the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local marine life, this is the place for you. Aquaholics offers snorkelling options, along with an extensive range of scuba diving experiences. An array of beginner and advanced courses, as well as private diving experiences of various lengths, are available. A broad range of equipment can also be rented. We got to experience two hours of snorkelling in the almost unbelievable underwater world around Nova. The vibrant colours combined with the warm waters and abundance of sea life, including whale sharks and manta rays, made the entire experience surreal and it was tough to leave this submerged Shangri-la at the end of the adventure.
Private Pampering
One of our favourite moments at Nova was the Eskape Spa experience. On offer at this idyllic venue is an assortment of massages and treatments, specially designed to relax and
rejuvenate the body and the senses. The Maldivian Ocean Dream Massage is the signature massage and it’s easy to understand why. As we indulged in this stress-stripping activity, on a tropical island, with the promise of more luxury and adventure to come, we couldn’t help but wonder if travelling experiences could get any better than this.
As difficult as it was to leave Nova Maldives at the end of our stay, we took with us a wealth of unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

stanbul is a metropolis like no other. Marking the point where East meets West, this historic location is the only city simultaneously situated in Asia and Europe. Hadag travelled to this enchanting part of the world, compliments of Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul, to experience all the luxury this fivestar venue has on offer.
Meet and Greet Service
Luxury begins at the airport. Istanbul International’s meet and greet service is unmatched. Arranged by the hotel, you’ll be whisked away in a luxury golf cart straight to the car. It took eight minutes from disembarking the plane to finding ourselves seated in a MercedesBenz on our way to the hotel. No walking, no queues, no waiting for luggage or going through customs. It’s all taken care of for you by the incredible team.
First impressions
As we pulled up to Mandarin Oriental, we were still buzzing from the glimpses of the vibrant city we experienced en route. Even from the car, all the sights, sounds and smells beckoned us to explore this proverbial melting pot of the old and the new.
Nestled in the Naile Sultan pine grove in the sophisticated Kuruçeşme district, Mandarin Oriental sits alongside the shimmering shoreline on the European side of Istanbul. Its perfect location provides panoramic views across the Bosphorus Strait and a central location to explore the famous city.
The composition of the hotel itself is a marvel, with its low-rise design, elegant marble-clad façade and Ottoman-style slate roof. Lush gardens and private wooden pavilions along the waterfront add to the luxurious and welcoming nature of the premises. Once inside, the marble, bronze and glass elements of the interior design create a contemporary setting that is both alluring and comforting. The hotel’s five-star status is always on full display, and we felt that we could have been the only guests there, thanks to the staff’s attentive service.
Rooms fit for royalty
As we made our way along the pristine hallways of the hotel, we were fortunate enough to inspect various accommodations on offer to guests. Each guestroom and suite is spacious, fully equipped and offers picturesque views of the Bosphorus. Most options include balconies or terraces and feature striking design elements comprising ornate bronze and onyx marble. Organic textures and patterns with bespoke metal and other details

are also included in the impressive interior designs. Many of these rooms are adaptable for family needs, and the hotel provides 24-hour room service to all guests.
Our suite was as beautiful and spacious as you’d expect from the high calibre of Mandarin Oriental. The highlight was, simply, one of the most comfortable beds we have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in.
Culinary splendour
Olea Bosphorus & The Bar
On the first night of our stay, we were invited to the celebrated Olea Bosphorus & The Bar, an exceptional venue serving up authentic Italian flavours.
Once seated, we ordered an array of options from the impressive menu, and thoroughly enjoyed every dish laid on the table. The octopus carpaccio was perfection and the oxtail fettuccine was worth every bite.
Novikov Istanbul
On our second night, we indulged at the worldrenowned, all-day restaurant, Novikov. This spectacular ground-floor location offers a fusion of Asian, Mediterranean and Italian dishes, along with magnificent views of the Bosphorus.
We found the pan-fried Asian delicacies particularly appetising, and we were hugely impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the warm service.
Additional Dining Venues
There are four additional dining venues, including: the contemporary Novikov Lounge Bar, the alfresco Novikov Pool Bar, the soothing Bosphorus Lounge and the enticing Mandarin Cake Shop.
Relax and recharge The Spa
Perhaps our favourite individual experience of the hotel was our time at the luxurious spa, where we indulged in a relaxing 60-minute massage. The aroma of the signature ginger oil and the soothing pressure eased tired muscles and left us feeling deeply pampered and relaxed.
The spa’s 3,500sq/m facilities include 11 treatment rooms, a VIP treatment room, a sauna, a steam room and three gender-separate hammams, amongst other options.
Sports and Leisure
For guests who enjoy staying fit and active, the hotel has a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a Pilates and yoga studio, a heated indoor pool and a lush spa garden featuring a swim current pool, a Jacuzzi, a kids’ pool and more.
For those seeking a slower pace, there are exclusive in-hotel luxury boutiques and access to a 200m shoreline, complete with lush gardens.
Perfectly placed
The hotel is centrally located, providing easy access to many of Istanbul’s most famous landmarks and neighbourhoods. Throughout our stay, we experienced the beautiful sights that included the assortment of grand mosques and historic attractions.
Within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the hotel, is the CBD, the city centre Taksim district, numerous Kuruçeşme nightclubs and two parks with jogging routes.
At the end of our stay, we were transported back to the airport in a stylish BMW, feeling both tranquil and invigorated, thanks to having Mandarin Oriental as our home in Istanbul.

A LUXURIOUS ADDRESS
ةماخفلل ناونع سيردأ
When it’s time to immerse yourself on a relaxing getaway, understated beachfront luxury calls in Bahrain. The island’s newest five-star hotel brings sophistication and tranquility to its guests. Hadag ’s Fernanda Langhammer spends the weekend at Address Beach Resort Bahrain amidst stylish surroundings that make for a truly refined stay.
The daily grind takes its toll on all of us here in the Gulf. And one of the best ways to unwind and recharge is to check in for a well-deserved getaway. Located within good proximity to Bahrain International Airport, one of the country’s newest hospitality choices is quickly becoming the talk of the town. We checked into the Address Beach Resort Bahrain located at Marassi Al Bahrain for what became an unforgettable weekend.
Whether you live in Bahrain and want a staycation or you’re looking for a convenient regional escape, Address Beach Resort is a great choice for solo travellers, couples and families alike. On arrival, we were greeted with a special welcome drink and my son was gifted a personalised colouring book and pencils while Bidisha was checking us in. The reception area is bright and beautifully decorated in tones of beige and blue. On the ceiling, a collection of leaf-shaped glass chandeliers looked like an art installation – simply stunning.
In no time, we received our room key, a cute wooden card, and lovely Febronia accompanied us to the sixth floor. The room was breathtaking. It was composed of a spacious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a guest bathroom and a massive living room with a round table and comfortable sofa and chairs, everything tastefully decorated.
Before heading to the balcony to soak in the uninterrupted view of the crystalline Gulf waters, my son spotted a teepee tent and went straight inside. What a thoughtful touch. While he was exploring his 'new home', I noticed a card welcoming us to the resort, signed by the Address' General Manager, Ricardo Vale – chocolates, macarons and a fruit basket accompanied the message. So much care and attention went into the first impressions to start our mini-holiday. The space also had a modern minibar and a Nespresso machine. The drawers were filled with snacks, cups, mugs and all the necessary amenities. For those who love organised spaces, each item fits perfectly in tailor-made compartments – I loved that. We finally reached the balcony and the view was splendid. In front of us was the vast sea; on the side, we could see the pool and the rest of Marassi beach. We changed into our swimsuits and went down for lunch at The Restaurant – aptly named – they also have The Garden and The Lounge. The space was ample and gorgeous. We chose a table near the big windows to enjoy the ocean views while eating. There were big white vases with planted trees all over the place and the ultimate detail: lots of small glass pieces hanging from the ceiling, similar to those at the reception but on a smaller scale, adding extra oomph to the room.
We chose the artichoke and avocado salad with cherry tomatoes and parmesan. The artichoke was grilled and balanced with crispy green leaves and soft avocado. It was the first time my son tried artichoke and he absolutely loved it. We also ordered the vegetable dim sum. The parcels were very light but full of flavour.

Happily full, we headed straight to the beach. Before reaching the sand, there is a hut where you can get towels and Sum Bum sunscreen SPF 50 (in case you’ve forgotten yours) plus tissues, hand sanitiser and Evian Facial Spray. Satish, one of the staff members, asked if we wanted some beach toys and my son couldn't have been happier, a bag with buckets, shovels and rakes – we were all set to build our impressive sand castle.
The seawater was chilly, so we opted to swim in the pool instead; the temperature-controlled water here was like entering a warm bath on a cold day. Sunset colours started painting the sky; so we went to freshen up before dinner. In the room, a well-stocked selection of Italian brand Lorenzo Villoresi Firenze toiletries was at our disposal.
In our best outfits, we chose a different table at The Restaurant for dinner. Friendly Tshering came to take our order. Our starter was the Falafel Beet Vegan Bowl with roasted carrot, pearl couscous, kale, pumpkin seeds and tahini dressing. Simply delicious. My son chose the Margarita Pizza, which was equally doughy and cheesy. I went for the Pappardelle Alla Norma with roasted aubergine, tomato sauce and ricotta, a divine dish with the right balance of sauce and pappardelle. The signature pina colada was a refreshing accompaniment.
Afer what can only be described as the most sumptuous night’s sleep, we woke feeling well rested. For breakfast, it was the avocado toast, poached eggs and a plate of seasonal fruits. The bread basket came with freshly baked pastries and my favourite – the croissant – was flaky and light.
It was time for my spa treatment. We went to QIX Club, the resort's kids' club, so my son had somewhere fun to play while I was getting pampered. The space is full of toys, books and even a video game. Monitored activities run from time to time and my son was excited to participate in the outdoor scavenger hunt. I left him with the lovely YangChen, knowing he would have loads of fun.
The Spa at Address is a calming space to leave all your tensions behind. I went for the Cellular Recreation Facial, a natural therapy tailored to each guest's skin needs. It uses active ingredients and organic products from the Team Dr Joseph brand. Karma, my therapist, started the session with the foot ritual, where my feet were washed in a copper bowl with salt and ginger scrub. She then started by cleansing my face, applying toner and giving me a pressure point massage. Next was the steamer, followed by a gentle scrub and cleaning. My favourite part was the serum and vigorous lifting massage. She then applied a mask and after removing it came the moisturiser, eye and lip cream. I spent a few minutes sipping a soothing peppermint tea in the relaxation room before picking up my son from the kids' club, where he had a blast. It was time to return to reality, so we packed our things, wrote some thank you notes and checked out. Address Beach Resort Bahrain will ground you in understated luxury – a secret that’s worth keeping but one that more people are beginning to discover fast.

One of Doha's newest resorts offers an elegant idyll designed as a private oasis of rest and relaxation. Hadag’s Amica Sicilia checks in to Maysan Doha LXR Hotels & Resorts for an experience that is genuinely a luxurious home away from home.
Is there anything more enticing than seeing, behind a wall of white stone warmed by the sun, the tops of tall palm trees waving in the breeze? In a desert land, a walled garden holds out a special kind of promise, not just a promise of beauty but of rest and recovery. In fact, the word paradise itself finds its roots in Old Persian for a place walled around. And this is what the designers at Maysan Doha LXR Hotels & Resorts have created. Rooting themselves in royal Qatari tradition in a walled compound set back from the busy seafront in the quiet hinterland beside the rolling green of Aspire Zone, they've created a personalised paradise of their own. Maysan means a bright star and the décor reflects this luminous ideal. A fountained courtyard of elegant elongated proportions leads us under an archway through tall double doors and into the bright and welcoming lobby. We are greeted warmly by Lisa, the Duty Manager, with a fragrant lemon-scented towel, small cups of steaming Arabic coffee and a dish of juicy dates. As we sign in for our weekend retreat, we are immediately made to feel at home. At the rear, the main hotel building opens onto a broad porch that looks out along an impossibly long and blue swimming pool flanked by an avenue of tall palm trees. On either side, in low, whitewashed adobe, nestle two lines of private suites and two-bedroom villas, each protected by its own verdant garden. Around the outside orbit the spa and Hammam complex, the restaurant and lounges, a state-of-the-art gym
with separate zones for men and women, a suite of 24-hour padel tennis courts and, of course, a children's club to entertain younger guests. We feel we have been transported to a gentler, quieter place for our stay.
It all feels so sheltered and secluded that we’re not prepared for the scale and grandeur of our suite. Our host opens the door and our jaws drop. The King Junior suite is nothing short of palatial. With maximum use of natural materials, it blends traditional architectural elements with modernist flair.
The furniture is in highly polished wood, all smooth surfaces and restful lines, with thick cream cushions. The headboard and benches use traditional rattan weaving. And the soaring double-height ceiling is composed of perfectly aligned bamboo canes making a gorgeous golden zigzag.
But the showstopper is one wall composed entirely of floor-to-ceiling sliding French doors. At the press of a button, the sweeping floorlength curtains open to reveal our private patio with our own private temperature-controlled swimming pool, a miniature of the one at the centre of the resort, all sheltered behind green hedges.
It's lunchtime and at Maysan, that means one thing: La Casa, which literally means home and
features a carefully curated menu of homemade Italian classics. We start with a light summery artichoke salad. The artichoke is sliced almost translucently thin, layered with curls of rocket leaves, sweet semi-dry cherry tomatoes, pine nuts and parmesan slivers. Alongside it, one of my weaknesses, baby calamari, fried just moments before, tossed with salt and lemon zest and piled high with baby cress, ready for hungry fingers to swoop in and plunge the pieces into homemade tartar sauce. In a broad blue platter, shaped like a shell, are stacked majestic king prawns, grilled and topped with fresh tomato salsa. This is one of our mains and we mop up the dressing with warm rosemary bread. Then a moment of drama: a beaten copper pan arrives, billowing steam and dry ice. Inside it, chargrilled lamb chops criss-cross with roasted aubergines. The fat is perfectly caramelised, the meat just blushing pink, tender and lean. We wash them down with a couple of Maysan's original mocktails that we take back to the suite to prepare for this afternoon's treat – a relaxing time at the spa. The Maysan Spa is a sanctuary within a sanctuary. If the resort as a whole evokes the urban oasis of a walled garden, this effect is redoubled as soon as we walk through the spa doors. Treatment rooms are arranged around a previously concealed internal courtyard. Leading off this space are seven private treatment suites, each with a bathroom and changing room. There are separate sauna and steam-room facilities for men and women and a truly spectacular Hammam in emerald green marble. Maysan Spa's facials use only cellular cosmetics from the Swiss line Valmont, while massages are with award-winning British brand Aromatherapy Associates.
We are treated to Maysan Spa's twist on my favourite hot-stone massage. This one is not with the usual volcanic black basalt but with another wellness wonder material: pink rock salt from the high Himalayas, hand carved into smooth palm-sized pebbles. It's a material known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, believed even to improve mood through the emission of negative ions.
The massage begins with gentle stretching of the limbs. The salt stones are then placed resting along my spine, pressed and manipulated along each limb. These glowing crystals carry the healing power of heat through my body. Their concentrated pressure and warmth relieve my tired and aching limbs, revitalising my nervous system. It's a feeling of renewal, as much mental and emotional as physical. Afterwards, we take our time relaxing in the spa's elegant lounge over fresh ginger tea and apricots. After a nap, we change into our evening best and follow our noses back to the restaurant, where delicious smells emanate. We begin with a carpaccio of Wagyu beef and whole burrata cheese on a bed of sweet cherry tomatoes and tiny black Leccino olives.
Our main courses are particularly impressive. The pasta is a graceful twist of Tagliolini al Nero di Seppia – the pasta is black, made with squid ink and loaded with the flavours of the sea, fresh mussels and prawns tossed with garlic and sweet tomatoes. The second act is known as Orecchio di Elefante or elephant's ear: a prime cutlet of tender veal, on the bone, beaten until thin and broad, breaded with a
herbed crumb and then flash fried. We sleep deep and wake early, sweeping the curtains aside to show a perfect blue-skied spring day. Our room has its own espresso machine, so we make strong shots just the way we like them and take them outside to the loungers by our private pool to let sunlight and caffeine gently bring us to life. Breakfast is served on the broad terrace looking out over the main swimming pool and palm avenue. The sun warms us without dazzling as we sip foaming cappuccinos and an energising concoction called The Fountain of Youth, a blitz of orange, raw honey, apple cider vinegar, lemon, ginger, turmeric and cayenne pepper. We share an avocado toast, topped with two perfectly poached eggs on a base of whipped ricotta, garnished with sliced purple radishes. And because alongside a little virtue, we could also do with a little indulgence, we polish off a pistachio french toast dusted with icing sugar and topped with fresh berries. Thus fortified, we hit the pool. Settled under a blue-and-white striped umbrella with a good book and a cold drink resting on the marbletopped table beside us, I feel that elusive state of inner peace usually only achieved in the comfort of your own home. We never want to leave this idyll. The sun moves across the sky, dappling the water with light and shade through the fronds of the palms. We wait until the shadows start to lengthen across the pool again before reluctantly saying goodbye – or until next time.

he act of eating is one of the most awakening experiences that we can embrace. It can bring back memories and expose us to new sensations. This sentiment could not ring truer than it does at La Table Krug by Y at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain. To say it was a memorable culinary journey wouldn’t do it justice, so I will try to transform the tastes, textures and emotions I encountered into words.
To put very simply, every part of this luxurious dining experience will touch your soul. And here’s how…
As soon as I arrived at the exclusive and private restaurant, which seats just 16 people, the iconic Yann Bernard Lejard, Director of Culinary and Food and Beverage, greeted me. He oversees all 14 dining venues at the hotel, but La Table Krug by Y (he is the Y in the name) is where you are exposed to his personal skills and brilliance. The space is an ode to luxury with velvety chairs, wooden panels on the walls and cute little lamps creating the perfect ambience. In the middle of this unique space lies Yann’s portrait and right under it, a pedestal holds his most recent project, a massive book. An imposingly beautiful volume with a fantastic compilation of images that evokes Yan’s passion for art using the medium he knows best: food. The book, a collaboration with Brazilian photographer Sergio Coimbra, is a concept that extends the definition of live painting to an understanding of a living painting where the work is transformed each day, creating new beginnings.
Yann is, first and foremost, a creative mind. We are just lucky that he expresses his artistic talents through food. However, despite plating and playing with volume, colours and textures, his creations taste like food – comforting food. Somehow, he develops a culinary art movement which involves the senses without losing the real nature of the food. His dishes take you to new heights exposing your taste buds to unexpected sensorial experiences.
The first amuse-bouche was a large piece of sourdough bread with fennel and cumin seeds paired with saffron butter (my dining companion and I kept it next to us throughout the entire meal). The bread had the perfect crunchiness on the outside and a soft and moist interior. I love fennel seeds in bread and cakes (it takes me back to my childhood and the corn cake I used to eat); the flavour was just delightful. The second, a creamy textured pea soup adorned with caviar, was served atop an impressive glass dome, and a beef bruschetta on a fried brioche base rounded off the small plates, giving us a flavourful introduction to this food voyage.
From the First Things First section on the menu, we had the #Playwithfire (the names of the dishes are very original), which consisted of duck foie gras cooked at a very high temperature, placed on top of caramelised seasonal fruits and plated with vibrant yellow
mango coulis. My dining companion was delighted with the cooking style and over the moon that she could have the whole piece to herself. I did try the fruits and they had a beautiful smoky hint.
We also had the #Groundreality, a visually striking dish that looked like a natural painting. It was composed of local vegetables, such as zucchini, asparagus, broccoli, radish and more, with different colours and textures due to the diverse cooking methods, complemented by a pea velouté. They tasted fresh and each bite revealed their true nature and flavours. I believe this is how you should treat vegetables, respecting their composition when cooking. The #Wildwildeast finalised the appetiser feast with a big ravioli filled with assorted mushrooms bathing in an intense truffle sauce. The foamy white sauce made with whipped cream hid the mushroom reduction (with delicious pieces of smoked mushroom) and the base of the ravioli, so all we could see was a ball of stuffed pasta –such a playful dish. I absolutely love truffle oil, but it is a tricky item that needs to be used with wisdom. Yann knows his ingredients intimately, so his hand on the oil was just spot on. The fragrance hit our nostrils before touching our taste buds and this sensorial experience made it even better.
The mains are creatively called Unpredictable Climax. The first dish was the #Tribute, which consisted of a salmon soufflé accompanied by scallop mousseline, caviar, beurre blanc, zucchini pearls and chives. While going back to this experience, I thought I wouldn’t be able to highlight one dish as my favourite, but I can. The scallop mousseline was it. It was so airy and comforting, with well-balanced flavours and consistency. I remembered my words to Yann: “I could live in this little pot”. The other main was the #Pureinstinct with U.S. beef tenderloin centre-cut, white pepper foam and teriyaki sauce teamed with a velvety mashed potato. The meat was, as expected, cooked to perfection, with a dark brown searing and buttery smooth interior. The white pepper foam added a touch of complexity to the overall taste without overpowering it. For dessert, first, we were served a dish that resembled a stone – the large, smooth pebbles one sometimes finds on the beach. Cracking the black chocolate shell and finding a creamy lemon custard interior with delicate flavours was amazing. La Table Krug by Y stands out for the surprise elements, and this would be repeated with the Reminiscing The Sweet Story, a magnificent dessert trolley with an assortment of mouth-watering treats. From the most exquisite fruit Charlotte cake (a recipe from Yann’s mum and a must-try) to tarts, fruits in syrup, bonbons, cake pops and so much more.
The desserts vary from time to time and that day, we had the Ile Flottante (Floating Island) in the selection, which consists of a floating meringue on crème anglaise topped with almond shavings. It was so delicious that even Yann couldn’t resist and served some for himself joining us to chat about food, art and how he is transforming the culinary scene wherever he goes. His creations are full of passion that is translated into every single dish and concept.
The restaurant serves a high-end dining experience without losing the intricate flavours and warm touch that homemade food should give us. If you are looking for extraordinary, you now know where to go.

Ice-cool precision meets fiery innovation at Provok restaurant and lounge. Hadag’s Amica Sicilia visited the new hotspot at the Fairmont Doha.
ntering Provok is like walking into an ice palace. The mirrored walls, picked out with blue and green glassware, seem built from great blocks of crystal or diamonds. A flock of glass swallows flies overhead between crystal chandeliers. Outside, the building is wrapped around by a spectacular sky balcony with views right across the city and out to sea. At night you’ll feel like you are suspended in the starry sky.
Our attention is caught by movement to our right. Inside a temperature-sealed chamber, an artist is creating original ice sculptures before our very eyes. We dare to step inside for just a moment, breath misting, to watch him chip, cut and shape the ice into an undersea landscape. We climb a glowing glass staircase from the aquamarine tones of the 33rd floor to the 34th, where instead of ice it’s all about fire. Pale blue, green and silver are replaced by glowing copper and orange. But the two contrasting spaces are bound together, manager Emilio Moscati explains, by both style and substance, elevating the culinary arts to a precise science. Alongside Fairmont Executive Chef Andre Kaiser, Provok’s Head Chef Taimoo Sun has curated a gastronomic experience like no other, remixing flavours from his native Korea and across Asia drawing on deep technical knowledge and an irresistible sense of fun.
The bar is set impressively high with our entree: Qatarifornia. This reimagination of the California roll sushi with fresh Alaskan crab is topped with a delicate petal of gold leaf and, inside, gilded again with an original aioli that uses golden Arabic coffee to create an umami explosion with every mouthful. Even the soy sauce is their own blend, fermenting the betterknown Japanese and Korean soys together with a sweeter Indonesian for unique balance. Chef Taimoo is the only chef in Qatar to have secured a contract to import Miyazakigyu. This most sought-after of Japanese Kobe Wagyu beef comes from 100% Tajima black cattle of the Miyazaki province and is known for its snowflake marbling. He serves it precisioncooked and sliced, basted with a yuzu beurre blanc with shavings of black truffle. The texture is extraordinary, like butter, and its richness is lifted by the accompaniment of purple carrots and broccolini fermented using the Korean kimchi method. We are tempted to devour every bite.
Next comes a deep purple curl of octopus, braised low and slow for hours with niban dashi, a softer second fermentation of the traditional Japanese stock. It’s sweet and meaty, the flavour ignited by the heat of aji amarillo sauce, the spice precisely calibrated for a satisfyingly long, slow burn.
As the spice factor rises, the mixologists step in. Their creations are visually breathtaking. The Red Wave is topped with a ruby-red print of Hokusai’s iconic painting, rendered on top of the foam, while Japanese Mist exudes bitter orange and chicory woodsmoke. The
Fairmont’s mixology lab is unmatched, with a dedicated team devising ambitious flavour combinations including their own cutting-edge non-alcoholic spirits.
These cooling concoctions complement the next volley from the kitchen. Seafood TteokBboki is inspired by the cult Korean street food of chewy rice cakes spiced with gochujang chilli paste. This iteration is elevated by slicing the tteok-bboki delicately thin and turning fiery sambal into an elegant velouté, enrobing lobster, shrimp and scallops in a generous riot of complementary textures. Hot on its heels arrives another Korean classic, chimaek crispyfried chicken. Served as bite-sized lollipops, these crunchy-sweet mouthfuls are served with sour daikon kimchi before being plunged into the cool fires of green-chilli aioli. To complete the trilogy comes Hongkong Night fried fish. Fine powdered potato starch gives the outside the lightest crunch while preserving all the flavour of the flaky, fragrant flesh within. Fermented black bean and garlic sauce over mushrooms provides a sweet maltiness while fermented lemon zest grated like golden snow over the top adds brightness through the deep umami finish.
The proof of Provok’s spectacular dishes is quite literally in the pudding. The chocolate lid of what looks like a classic opera cake melts under hot caramel to reveal layers of miso cream, alternating striped, white shiro, tan shinsu and dark aka miso, deeply satisfying savouriness tempered with coffee and chocolate. To wash this down, steaming tea poured from a beautiful bamboo-handled pot stirs up a spoonful of cultured kumkwat compote hiding in the bottom of our cups, turning our black tea into an aromatic citrus journey. Sated and inspired, we sip our tea as beneath our feet Doha glitters like a carpet of diamonds whilst we take in the glorious palace of fire and ice that is Provok.

A ROYAL SCENT
Distilling this propitious moment in time and breathing new life into its iconic legacy, the new Escape chapter of the Odyssey Collection by Amouage adds four new eaux de parfum to its compendium of iconic scents.
Each creation laces Royal Frankincense with a broad palette of rare ingredients in a deft display of tradition-steeped modernity. By exploring introspective themes, Lineage, Search, Guidance and Purpose speak of escapism, the strive to grow, the search for a new path and the finding of a new life – transformation at last. Lineage is a song of salty incense, of mineral warmth and summer meditations, this is a scent of travelling far from home to get closer to yourself. While Search is a tale of trying and reaching, of life overcoming shade, it captures the virile energy of resilient minds unafraid to fight their inner
darkness to become their ideal selves. Guidance is an addictive and modern take on the Amouage triad of rose, frankincense and ambergris. Guidance reads like a poem, smells like an embrace and feels like a word of wisdom. And Purpose is a vertical totem of mineral woods and stellar sparks of spice, it is the scent of feeling at peace, of finding your roots, of feeling complete. The Odyssey Collection: Chapter III – Escape is available at all Amouage boutiques and distributors worldwide and can be purchased online.
