ATLANTIDE ARRIVES AT HUISFIT ‫أتالنتايد يصل إلى هوسفيت‬

The team at Royal Huisman and Huisfit have been commissioned to carry out the very special restoration of Dr. Jim Clark’s most recent acquisition, the 1930’s yacht Atlantide. Following the successful 2020-refit by Huisfit of Jim and Kristy Clark’s famous J-Class yacht Hanuman, and with three newbuild orders already completed by Royal Huisman in recent decades (Hyperion in 1998, Athena in 2004, and Hanuman in 2009), Dr. Jim Clark decided the same craftsmen and women are best suited to take on this new project - rebuilding Atlantide at the quality level Royal Huisman is known for. Jan Timmerman, CEO Royal Huisman, said: “If a discerning client commissions a fourth very substantial project to the same shipyard, you just know that the work you perform is truly appreciated. So, we are most honoured to find ourselves in the position to realise yet another dream for our esteemed clients Jim and Kristy Clark.” Atlantide was designed by naval architect Alfred Mylne and built by the British shipyard Philip & Sons in 1930. Following Atlantide’s rich history spanning over 90 years, the team of Royal Huisman and Huisfit is grateful for this opportunity to preserve Jim and Kristy Clark’s legendary yacht well into the future. PROJECT SHADOW ‫مشروع الظل‬

The Tim Heywood designed yacht from the Dutch builder’s Limited Editions range will be completed with a unique interior by Winch Design. In the sale, Moran Yacht & Ship represented the Owners, who have been closely involved in tailoring the yacht to their personal requirements. The Amels 242 will feature a dedicated Owners Deck with foredeck jacuzzi, an increased capacity helicopter deck and will be equipped with the latest Tier III clean emissions power and propulsion package. Moran Yacht & Ship’s new build team will also supervise the completion and delivery of the yacht this year. This is the second 60-metre plus Amels superyacht signed by Moran Yacht & Ship in the last 12 months. Damen Yachting Managing Director, Rose Damen, says: “We have a very challenging project to achieve all the Owners’ requests in a short timeframe. The yacht’s planned itinerary is based around an extensive cruising schedule which will take the superyacht worldwide. Synthesis stems from the successful Amels 242 Limited Editions range. Her experienced Owner is a repeat Amels client and has customised this yacht to meet their personal requirements. She features a dedicated Owners Deck with foredeck jacuzzi and there is a significant focus on blending the interior into the exterior throughout with unique dining and entertaining layouts on multiple decks which move away from the more traditional configurations. There is a large aft deck swimming pool and the Lower Deck Wellness Spa continues this play on the indoor-outdoor with direct access to the swim platform for guests. Synthesis’ Captain James Griffiths joined the project in spring last year forming part of the team overseeing the build on behalf of the Owner. “‘This has been my first new build Amels project – the previous projects I have been involved with at the Damen Yachting shipyard have been refits. As always, the experience has been great and the cooperation with the shipyard, project manager and his team has gone very well. his versatile sailing yacht is designed and built for very experienced Owners who presented a stimulating brief: comfort and safety to explore the world, in an extremely lightweight structure to ensure victories in superyacht regattas. The vision with which every project starts has, for Project 405, now been brought to life with a full-scale mock-up of the aft half of the yacht’s main deck. There is no substitute for the actual experience of walking around in, touching, assessing and appreciating all aspects of an emerging construction. So, the main goals to be achieved with the mock-up were to explore, develop and optimise the conceptual ideas of the design team before construction begins, and to ensure that the owners’ lifestyle objectives are totally integrated with the engineering, systems, construction and operational requirements for the project. Team meetings in the mock-up, helped to identify opportunities and resolve potential issues relating to the use of space. Royal Huisman’s CEO Jan Timmerman says: “In spite of Covid-19 restrictions, work on all aspects of Project 405 continues as planned. The full project team, designers, architects, our engineers are on schedule – mostly working remotely from home – so the development of the design and systems continues while our inhouse craftsmen have made a start with the production. The team meets regularly in online meetings and we are all pleased with progress so far. he 2020 Rolex Middle Sea Race start date has been moved to October 17. While the pandemic has yet to reach a halt, the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC) assures all 79 competitors who have entered this year’s race that they are doing everything in their power to enable the race to take place. “We are delighted with the size and diversity of the fleet in the circumstances,” says Peter Dimech, the Principal Race Officer. “At the moment, we have every hope of getting the race under way as planned despite the headwinds we face.” Regarding the race’s entry list, a number of heavy competitors have already registered including the 100-ft Maxi Comanche, a standout favourite and a potential challenger for the sub-48-hour race record set in 2007. Not to mention, the presence of an interesting three-way head-to-head consisting of Maserati, Ultim’ Emotion and PowerPlay among the Multihull Line Honours. Last year’s overall race winner, Maltese yacht Elusive 2 has also registered. he painting of the Majesty 175 was completed entirely by the in-house paint team which Gulf Craft has perfected over the last 10 years. Techniques on post-curing, especially the black painted areas of the hull, are again driven by a necessity to find solutions to cope with the Gulf region’s harsh marine environment in the world. The team that painted the Majesty 175 consisted of four main sprayers and two backup sprayers, alongside them a team of 10 finishers, who fair, sand, and finally buff/polish the finish. Each step of the painting process within Gulf Craft is meticulously documented so if any flaws appear in the finished surface, a rectification plan can be put in place to prevent having a complete reshoot of the painted hull. ustom Line Navetta 30 marks a new chapter in the brand’s evolution. This romantic yacht is full of charm and makes an extremely elegant and contemporary style statement. At 93ft in length and with a beam of 24ft, Navetta 30 is a product of collaboration between the Product Strategy Department led by Mr. Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department. The yacht is the first project with exteriors designed by Filippo Salvetti and interiors by architecture and design firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. The influence of these top professionals can be seen in every stylistic choice, across a construction process in which the details are enhanced by being set against a clean and linear design. An in-depth approach to the design process, referencing stylistic features in the finest tradition, has generated the many unusual elements that make Navetta 30 a new icon of the sea. They range from the choice of natural, living materials like leather, wood and rope, to an unprecedented celebration of light, not to mention reiterated references to the circle as the perfect sign, one that has also inspired a return to the rounded lines typical of boats from the past, as well as the custom design of the resin film wall coating consisting of quartz powder on glass fibre. The sea metaphor is also clear to see in the colourways, and particularly in the choice of blue, as well as in the care over detail and in manufacturing processes that draw on the

The design gives an innovative twist to the brand’s heritage values of seaworthiness, comfort, safety and customisation, making it instinctively recognisable while retaining a sense of formal purity. PHI offers significantly more exterior and semiinterior entertainment area on the aft deck than conventional designs, and instead of a typical “wedding cake” silhouette, she will have a very sleek and appealing low profile. Another “first” can be found on the pool deck with Cor D. Rover’s patented DEPP swimming pool. This pool uses a minimum volume of fresh water since the body of water can stay in the pool, heated and treated overnight, when not in use. The pool itself turns into a sealed tank and visa-versa at the touch of a button, avoiding lengthy pumping of water in and out of a separate, dedicated dump tank, which means, guests can first play a game on top of the flush pool cover and swim within five minutes in the pool that is underneath. Complementing motoryacht PHI will be a 36m / 118ft shadow vessel, which is currently under construction at Alia Yachts. addresses the increasing demand that Triton is experiencing from both mega-yacht owners and the hospitality sector for larger capacity submersibles that allow families or groups of guests to partake in experiences that generate unique shared memories. Here, Triton’s CEO and Co-founder, Bruce Jones, fills us in on what could very well be the newest, most-wanted feature in hospitality… Hi Bruce! The Triton 3300/6 is a gamechanging construction. Though it has taken two years to build, can you remember a time when building such a vessel was nothing but an idea? For years, the technology was not available to build a sub like the Triton 3300/6. The passenger sphere requirement was too big and too thick to be built. So, we helped our acrylic supplier develop new technology that made larger spheres possible. Not only is the Triton 3300/3 the result, but our new ultra-deep diving subs, the Triton 7500/3 and the Triton 13,000/2 Titanic Explorer are also now possible. Triton has conquered every ocean in the world, from the freezing arctic to the deepest points in the Red Sea and even manned descents to the Titanic’s wreck – with so much ticked off the list of feats, what other dives or journeys do you still hope to achieve in the coming years? In many ways, we’ve reached our ultimate goals. We’ve built the deepest diving sub in human history, which is the only sub ever built with “unlimited diving depth” certification. We have taken it to the deepest spot in the ocean, Challenger Deep, at 10,932 meters, on 10 separate dives. We have gone around the world and dived the deepest spot in each of the five oceans. The Triton 36,000/2 has broken a score of records. I’m not sure what we do for an encore but we are continuing to innovate and to introduce new models. Triton’s achievements to date, have made it into history books, scientific journals, and global broadcasts. On a personal note, which of your accomplishments has meant the most to you, and why? Conceiving of the Triton 36,000/2, finding a buyer, designing the sub, building it and making it an unqualified success, all when people said it was impossible. What do you believe are the reasons for the positive growth, interest and demand for submersibles? I think the interest is driven by more disposable income and more interest in the oceans; more people understanding privately owned subs and their capabilities; owners discovering they can become a hero with family and friends by offering a rare and unusual educational adventure underwater. “Sub-marine tourism” still lends itself to elite and wealthy. Do you have any plans to offer submersibles or experiences that are more “affordable”? We have built a revolutionary transparent-hulled sub, the DeepView 24, that can carry 24 paying passengers on dives to 100 meters. The worldwide

tourist submarine fleet carries about one million passengers per year and allows virtually anyone to experience the underwater world on hour long dives that are quite affordable. We have six tourist sub DeepView designs that range from six-passengers up to 66-passengers. Beyond recreational purposes and documentary filming, submersibles are being used for marine research and ocean advocacy too. Was this ever the intention and how does it affect your future builds? We have certain submarine models that are built specifically for research and underwater filming, and we continue to add more and more capable new subs and optional equipment to allow scientists and film-makers to break new ground in their endeavours. Are submersibles the future of luxury hospitality – how do you see this form of exploration developing over the next decade? I think a Triton sub established at a sea-side resort provides interesting market differentiation by offering a unique experience to guests. We expect this concept to catch on and to provide Triton with many future sales while introducing people to the sub-sea environment and promoting environmental stewardship.

ward-winning artist Kristel Bechara has unveiled a series of paintings that are inspired by the turbulent events of the past year, encouraging viewers to find hope from within. This series of paintings is named after an epic poem from the early fifth century AD by the Latin poet, Prudentius. Considered one of the most influential works in medieval allegory, the themes and ideas explored in the poem, Psychomachia, are timeless with its many verses being of great relevance particularly in today’s time. The plot of the poem revolves around the battle between the virtues of Hope, Sobriety, Chastity and Humility against the vices of Pride, Wrath, Paganism and Avarice. This battle culminates with each virtue prevailing over its opposing vice, with Chastity defeating Lust, Anger surrendering to Patience and Love being victorious over Greed. All the characters in the poem are portrayed as women because linguistically, Latin uses feminine pronouns when abstract concepts are being discussed. This series is also an exploration of the battle between good and evil and all the grey areas in between. Each painting is an invitation of self-exploration and discovery through Kristel’s signature style of contrasting and expressive colours. The series reimagines Greek mythology through Kristel’s contemporary lens, taking viewers on a journey within. The paintings portray mythological figures and fables in a new light, from a perspective that will leave the viewer asking poignant questions about life, love, values and the human condition. One of the key pieces is “Sea of Life” sailing and the sea have eminent roles to play in Greek mythology, with the nautical voyage one has to take to get to Hades and the primordial waters of Oceanus, being some of them. This journey is meant to be an introspective one where the person takes a deeper dive into their consciousness to discover their Higher Self, their true calling. And when it comes to top-of-the-line vehicles, one can look no further than the epitome of refinement and class, Rolls Royce. In recent times we were fortunate enough to experience the new Rolls Royce Ghost and can honestly say, at the time, it was the most impressive vehicle we had ever test driven. This month, thanks to the outstanding team at Rolls Royce Bahrain, we got to thoroughly inspect the new Rolls Royce Phantom as well as to put it through its paces. Our first impression of the Phantom was how clean the exterior design is. The pure precision of the body joining ensures that there are almost no visible joint lines between body panels, giving this new model the appearance of being sculptured out of a single block of aluminium. The pantheon grille of this eighth generation Phantom reveals a contemporary reimagining of a classic feature. The handpolished stainless-steel grille has been seamlessly integrated into the surrounding bodywork resulting in a cleaner and more modern design. The grille has been raised, giving the Spirit of Ecstasy a more prominent position. The headlamps with fresh frosted internals are equipped with the most advanced laser light system of any motor car and casts a light 600 meters in front of the vehicle. The bodylines of this model flow effortlessly from front to rear beginning inboard from the top edge of the grille moving outwards along the body to the back end. The front wing line fades just after the door handle, adding a sense of speed to the design. This particular model is a long-base version of the Phantom and measures 6.5 meters end-to-end. From the sides, the 2:1 proportion that one has become accustomed to with every generation, features short front and long rear overhangs as well as an upright front and flowing rear. The largest single piece of hand-polished stainless-steel on any motor car sits as the side frame finisher of the New Phantom. The rear glass, like the front windscreen, is surrounded by a flawlessly crafted stainless-steel frame, whilst the boot lid finisher, also created from stainless-steel, echoes the front grille with its charming design and aerodynamic functionality. Once Inside the Phantom, we felt as if we had been given access to a first-class lounge. As one 48

Performance wise, the 2021 Phantom is the most technologically advance Rolls-Royce ever constructed. It houses an all-new 6.75 litre twin-turbo V12 powertrain engine that is as silent as they come. We were amazed at how little noise emanated from under the hood. This beast of an engine delivers 420kW of power and complimented by a ZF 8-Speed gearbox, ensures the car can handle whatever conditions the road has in store. The impressive suspension system makes millions of calculations every second ensuring the very smoothest of rides. The 6mm two-layer glazing around the car, ‘Silent-Seal‘ tyres and more than 130kg of sound insulation amongst other noise reduction features, are hugely effective and the miles roll by in virtual silence. We also found it hard to believe that we were driving a car that was 6.5 meters in length as it handled so well and never felt like an oversized vehicle. contoured wings. From the viewpoint of the flanks, the sporty roofline slopes downward to the back end, whilst significantly sculptured side sections add to the car’s striking appearance. The shoulders of the wings are distinctive and along with the drawn-in rear C-pillar, they work together to create a sharply emphasised rear. Features of the Taycan 4S that set it apart from other models in the range include aerodynamically optimised 19-inch Taycan S Aero wheels, red brake callipers, the front apron with new geometry as well as side sills and rear diffuser in black. Equipped as standard are the LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus. The glass-effect Porsche logo integrated into the light bar at the rear finishes off the exterior design with a flourish. Slipping inside the cockpit of the 4S, we immediately felt like we’d entered a premium environment. The partial-leather interior of the new Taycan is exquisite, with all trimmings, materials and finishes being of the highest quality. Porsche is also offering a leather-free interior for the very first time, replacing it with innovative recycled materials that add to the sustainable concept of the electric sports car. A free-standing, curved instrument cluster is present on the dashboard, placing a clear focus on the driver axis. The infotainment display measures 10.9-inches and along with an optional passenger display, combine to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look. With ample space on offer in the front and a comfortable seating arrangement for two adults in the back, this four-door vehicle is not only beautiful but functional as well. Performance wise, just because the Taycan is an electric sports car, does not mean that it delivers less power than one has come to expect from a Porsche. On the contrary, the Taycan 4S comes equipped with the Performance battery as standard that produces 530hp (390kW). However, a second option is available in the form of the Performance battery Plus that delivers 571hp (420kW). Both options allow the 4S to surge from zero-100km/h in four seconds flat and provide a regulated top speed of 250km/h. Perhaps the best feature of this vehicle is that despite all of this power being produced, it releases a combined CO2 emission of 0 g/km. Great news for the environment. ocated in the heart of Amwaj Islands, The Art Hotel & Resort is somewhat of a contemporary oasis with all the classic values of luxury hospitality. It welcomes couples, families and visitors of all age groups to enjoy an array of activities that cater to everyone. The grand lobby will leave you in awe. With a very quick and easy check-in process, I received the keys to my room for the weekend and was ready for complete bliss! The Classic King Club Room offers the best of contemporary furnishings as well as inroom technology consisting of free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee-makers as well as a mini fridge, making sure that my stay is as convenient and comfortable as possible. Located on a private beach that overlooks the Gulf, all the rooms overlook the glittering waters – giving guests an astounding view from wherever you are in the hotel. Goals or what?! The king-size bed is perfection. With beautifully fresh linen, your body sinks right to the centre, taking you immediately up above the islands and onto a cloud. I promise, a sleep in this hotel room will hit different! With a very prestigious marble bathroom, this little piece of paradise belonged to me for the next 24 hours – and I was so excited to discover the other surprises that the resort had in store! Heading down to the private beach, lively chatter and laughter filled the air as different groups enjoyed their time under the sun. With the help of their super active onground team, lifeguards helped coordinate volleyball games, a massive floaty as well as a selection of different water activities that are accessible to anyone staying at the hotel. As I enjoyed the afternoon soaking in the Vitamin D, the Wu Lounge (easily accessible from the beach) made sure guests remained hydrated as well as ensuring that our appetite was taken care of with a selection of delectable beach bites. We weren’t done with this restaurant just yet though – we even had the chance to join a beautiful Chinese New Year dinner at which they were able to serve us some of the freshest sushi. Coming to the end of our first day at the resort, the staycation was far from over. Watching the fluorescent lights of the Amwaj Marina lighting up the skyline from the room, it was one of the most relaxing endings to my day. Promptly on time the next morning, the in-room breakfast was brought in – still hot out of the kitchen – and indulged in the comfort of the beautiful bed. If life was a movie, this scene would’ve been the opening, without a doubt. At midday I headed downstairs to one of the family-favourite Italian restaurant, Rosso, for an al fresco brunch served by 84

Alongside the ever-changing daily menu, L’Orto also has I Piatti Amati and I Piatti Toscani Di Traduzione – these are separate from the regular menu that is available all the time. It is composed of the Most Loved and Traditional Tuscan Dishes that are prepared by the chefs. First up from the Most Loved Menu – the La Burrata with fresh Tuscan black truffles; rich in flavour and perfectly paired with the La Pizza Bianca al Funghi. Both of these had us floating in truffle heaven and we were not ready to come down. Realising that the surprises of this night were never-ending, we delved head-first into the exclusive menu, and were surprised by every single dish – there was absolutely no room for competition as everything was worthy of an award. The caramelised fig salad and tuna tartare were exquisite in taste and presentation – the techniques used to create the dishes helped us to understand how the purity of the ingredients played a significant role in the creation of these items. Every ingredient shines bright with delicate and fresh taste; hence no plate was left unattended.

Next up was a triple threat; the Coda Alla Vaccinara, Sunchoke and Leeks Risotto, Beef Cheeks and the European Sea Bass Fillet. All these dishes were perfectly prepared and presented, with the added bonus of having the chefs explain each dish to us. We were left delighted by their passion for food and that this enthusiasm translated into quality food. The dedication and detail with using organic ingredients did indeed work to nourish our spirits - and our stomachs! ubai International Financial Centre is no stranger when it comes to acclaimed restaurant openings, with the likes of Amazonico, L’Atelier by Joël Robuchon, Hutong and Marea all having made quite the impression in recent months. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the upmarket dining enclave frequented by bankers, financiers and those with a taste for the finer things in life, appears to be booming. The popular concept that is Indochine, continues to garner the attention of upscale foodies. The French-Vietnamese restaurant which opened 36 years ago in New York has been frequented by the likes of Madonna, Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Kate Moss and Padma Lakshmi, now has a hot-seat location in Dubai. Situated in Gate Village 3, Indochine’s seductive atmosphere hits guests before they even cross the threshold. A vibrant neon sign lights the way, visible through an abundance of verdant foliage that transports diners from Dubai modernity and into French colonial Vietnam. The setting bears many resemblances to its New York counterpart with its sultry ambience, tropical decor and iconic Martinique wallpaper. The space is divided into a restaurant, bar and terrace and boasts an unrivalled intimacy, no matter where you may be positioned. Aside from the stunning interiors with their hypnotic whirring ceiling fans, rattan furniture and finely pressed table linens, it’s the electric soundtrack that has us immediately enraptured. The music is compiled by a DJ who spins an obscure collection of tracks that move from Motown classics to Cuban Funk, from the comfort of a sunken couch, immersing guests into the luxurious experience of the evening. This addictive atmosphere is matched by some of the most outstanding service. Our waiter Manny is the epitome of confident, treating us like old friends while also taking the time to get to know us, and creating a culinary journey entirely tailored to our preferences. We quickly become swept up in a menu that effortlessly blends French and Vietnamese cuisines with ease. Beginning with the Sea Bream Carpaccio, we are utterly impressed by the delicate nature of the fish enhanced by the ginger dressing, pomelo and crispy garlic. The Crispy Eggplant is far from simple; it is a moreish choice thanks to a glorious spiced caramel glaze that elevates the garden vegetable beyond any preconceived expectations. We also adore the Fried Vegetable Spring Rolls stuffed full of smoked chilli bean curd, taro, shiitake mushrooms, glass noodles and nuoc cham. Kudos to Executive Chef Steven Nguyen and the kitchen team who turn out plate after plate of exceptional food, despite the restaurant nearing capacity. With main courses such as Typhoon Shelter Lobster, Hanoi Chicken and Caramel Black Cod available, we’re spoiled with main course items. Scale Amadai, we knew we would have to order the fish, which is an exclusive signature to the Dubai outpost of Indochine. While the scales are the main draw to this particular order, we were excited by both the textures and flavours of ginger, shishito peppers and lemongrass tomato nage. With very little room left for dessert, we were happy to indulge in the sugar-coated Banana Beignets and the Passionfruit Tartelette, which offers a beautifully-created plate and one that strikes a careful balance between sweet and tart. Dining an Indochine feels both intimate and lively as if you have stepped into an exclusive members-only club, complete with staff who embrace their individuality and all of whom wouldn’t be amiss on a Paris catwalk.
