This 60-metre (197ft) Limited Editions design is an evolution of the Amels 188, and bears the unmistakable exterior design signature of Tim Heywood. Whilst the Amels 200 shares much of the naval architecture, high volume (Gross Tonnage of 1,015) and hybrid electrical power technology as her predecessor, the design also benefits from the additional length. Tim Heywood explained: “The additional length of the Amels 200 enhances the overall elegance and sophistication of my design, both inside and out. The larger windows create a lighter atmosphere to the interior, which is very welcoming. “This is a yacht with complex, multifaceted forms, complimented with graceful flowing lines, which combine to create a real eyecatching yacht, of which I am extremely proud. This all-aluminium megayacht was designed by the CRN Technical Office in partnership with Omega Architects, for the concept and exterior lines, and Massari Design for the interiors. The two studios’ creative spark combined with CRN’s passion and deep expertise is bringing to life a unique work, a blend of bespoke quality and elegant simplicity. CRN M/Y 142 is the fruit of state-of-the-art research and development, which informs the design of even the subtlest construction detail. The CRN engineers have set great store by fuel efficiency, optimising the hull and appendages to reduce drag. Weight reduction has been a priority, using special light materials and an aluminium hull and superstructure. The hull was positioned in early March, and construction is progressing at the Ancona 16

liss is a displacement superyacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and showcases a modern classic exterior styling developed by the owner and Studio De Voogt. The yacht has a clean and highly symmetrical design with her tenders and a large fleet of toys neatly concealed so as not to intrude upon her meticulously chosen lines. The owner’s involvement has been paramount to the success of both the exterior and interior design, with incredible attention to detail and a fantastic cooperation between designer Jan Schaffers of Studio De Voogt for the exterior design and Rémi Tessier for the elegant interior style, the result is an iconic design that feels natural and welcoming, inside and out. The journey of learning, designing, and building has been thoroughly enjoyable for the owner and his team. “The experienced members of the project team at Feadship in Makkum led by project manager Albert Abma have always taken the extra steps needed to achieve an excellent result,” says Ron Kleverlaan, owner’s representative. After years of fine-tuning, engineering, planning, and hard work by the many skilled craftspeople at Feadship in Makkum, the result is a magnificent pure custom yacht which fulfils the high expectations of quality and performance for an active family that likes to explore the world. “Feadship is renowned for offering a unique experience to owners who wish to become personally involved and, in this case, the client embraced every opportunity to play a role,” says Project Manager, Albert Abma. “He also thoroughly enjoyed meeting the craftspeople and learning about our processes at the yard. elivered in 2009, Grace stems from the successful Amels 180 Limited Editions design which originally started as the Amels 171 – a design series of six which, over a period of 15 years, evolved to the Amels 180 and the delivery of 25 yachts. Now, 11 years on and Grace is now returning to Vlissingen for a four-month refit which will see a number of works take place including a technical upgrade, complete hull respray and interior modification. “It’s wonderful to see Grace back at the yard,” says Damen Yachting Sales Manager Michel Coens, who knows the yacht well from her time at the yard during the original build. “Being able to welcome yachts and their crew from the fleet back to our yard is always a great honour. There is a real sense of pride in welcoming back one of our own and also having the opportunity to once again shape a yacht to the Owner’s wishes.” He goes on to explain the additional added value of returning to the original builder. “The Owner and Crew know they are in safe and experienced hands. The entire team know the yacht inside out which is a big advantage. he in-house SeaXplorer design team has combined the feedback and experience from SeaXplorer clients to create the top-of-the-line SeaXplorer yacht. Together with input from exterior design partners at Azure Yacht Design and operational design partners EYOS Expeditions, the concept is an evolution of the best of the previous SeaXplorer 90, SeaXplorer 95 and SeaXplorer 100 designs. “The SeaXplorer 105 is a fully developed design,” says Enrique Tintore, SeaXplorer Design Manager at Damen Yachting. “However, the scope for client customisation is massive – that’s a key part of our proposition throughout the design process.” Next to the 13-metre chase boat, the yacht can carry four 8 to 12-metre tenders (e.g., limousine, RIB, landing craft, sports tender) stored in the forward garage and tender bays. Among the yacht’s huge collection of toys, she can also carry a submarine, and has a scuba dive deck with watersports centre and waterline embarkment. DISCOVERY ON THE WORLD’S OCEANS The SeaXplorer 105 has a true luxury expedition-sized volume with a Gross Tonnage of 6,500 and 5,775 square metres (62,162 sq ft) over her eight decks. She offers large staterooms for 24 guests, including two expansive Owner Suites, built under PYC rules making her fully charterable. She has huge onboard stores for all provisions, luggage parts as well as heli fuel, tender fuel and tanks for 8,000 nautical miles (Trans Pacific) range. As part of the SeaXplorer expedition yacht range, the SeaXplorer 105 shares the unique Observation Lounge with outside bow point deck – but on a big scale with 123 square metres (1,324 sq ft) devoted to enjoying spectacular views. The space includes a bar and multimedia centre. POLAR CODE Together with the latest hybrid diesel-electric pod propulsion to reduce the impact on our oceans, the SeaXplorer 105 complies with the IMO Polar Code category B requirements for polar safety and environmental protection. Her hull is built with Polar Class 7 ice strengthening with double-acting stern icebreaking for maximum safety in fast-changing ice conditions. The powerful stabiliser fins retract where difficult-to-detect ‘growlers’ (truck-sized fragments of icebergs or glaciers) float beneath the surface – significant hazards for yachts with weak hull appendages such as fixed fins. Below deck the garbage stores and large greywater tanks ensure her zero-discharge operations for long periods between port calls. HELIDECK, PARTY OR ROUND OF TENNIS? Two helicopters offer increased flexibility, redundancy and safety when out of range of rescue services. Plus, in Antarctica, regulations require two helicopters when flying far or landing in the mountains for skiing. Having a 300 square-metre twin helideck (3,229 sq ft) also means the Owners can host unprecedented parties for 200 guests with an ultra-lounge layout. There is also plenty of room for an outdoor cinema, full size doubles tennis court or basketball half court. The transom is not only a swim platform, but also an open bar area with upstairs lounge. Equal in size to the huge twin helideck is the indoor SeaXplorer Spa. acing wingtip-to-wingtip, the Swedish-built electric motorboat Candela C-7 and Italian sailing monohull racer Persico 69F proved to be equally fast, both going about 30 knots in the light breeze on Lago di Garda, Italy. The race was the first occasion on which a foiling motorboat and foiling sailing boat flew together. Using foils - an innovation invented on the lake just over 100 years ago, they soared over the water using considerably less energy than conventional vessels. Hydrofoils are in essence underwater wings, that at certain speeds provide enough lift to allow the boat’s hull to rise above the surface, reducing the water friction considerably. For the Persico 69F, a sailing boat built for thrilling racing, its hydrofoils mean the craft can reach a top speed of 35 knots and sail at high speeds even in light wings – performance unattainable for conventional sailing vessels. For Candela C-7, an electric motorboat already in serial production, the foils enable long range on pure battery power at speeds previously only possible in combustion engine boats. With a cruise speed of 22 and top speed of 30 knots, the Candela C-7 can fly for 2,5 hours before depleting its comparably modest 40 kWh battery. This is 2-3 times longer endurance than conventional, fast electric boats. Skimming above Lake Garda, the two craft may look similar but their underlying tech differs. While the thrilling Persico 69F needs a skilled crew to control it during flight, the C-7 uses computers to make foiling accessible to ordinary boaters. C-7 has a new type of hyper-efficient hydrofoils that resemble aircraft wings. Using only 25 horsepower when cruising over Lake Garda, even fully loaded with six passengers, the Swedish craft is steered by a flight controller, a computer that analyses the boat’s pitch and roll a hundred times a second and automatically adjusts the foils to keep it level above the waves. Thanks to the computer and software, the ride is artificially stable, leaving even the most seasickprone passengers with smiles on their faces. But the two flying craft also share many traits attributed to their foils: skimming across the lake, three feet above the water’s surface, neither boat touched the wave crests. There was no slamming, no noise, and no wake from either boat – advantages that only foiling boats can offer. These benefits have made hydrofoils a popular choice for budding electric boat builders, for which the main objective is to reduce energy consumption and gain range. So far, the Swedish Candela firm is the only company that has succeeded in bringing a vessel to the market. However, the C-7 has been met with success and is currently the best-selling electric motorboat in Europe, with 30 sold boats in just over a year. he catamaran’s layout provides generous accommodation for up to eight guests. Located in the portside hull along with one of the guest cabins, the yacht’s vast master suite was fitted with a king-size bed with a tufted backrest, a vanity and an elegant ensuite bathroom. The starboard hull houses a VIP cabin with a walk-in dressing and desk as well as a guest stateroom with a convertible twin bed. The bespoke décor is contemporary and classic with numerous velvet and brass accents. All the bathroom fittings are matt black, matching the classic black and white floor tiling. The yacht’s main deck saloon features a lounging space with a large sofa, a wine cooler and a cosy elevated reading spot. The heightadjustable table can also be used as an extra sofa extension. To starboard, the yacht’s main galley provides top kitchen appliances and voluminous storage. Amidships, the kitchen island conceals restaurant quality equipment as well as a retractable TV. With nearly 11m of beam, the Sunreef 70 boasts an impressive stern cockpit with plenty of space for dining, a barbecue and bar as well as a hydraulic swim platform. Accessed from the main saloon, the bow terrace features big sun pads, a sunken lounging space and clever diving gear storage. Ginette’s flybridge was given an open layout with oversized sun pads and a large u-shaped sofa. Inside the GT, a single hide colouring of your choice awaits you, in our case, a Newmarket Tan colour throughout the cabin provided an understated elegance that exuded both class and style. The contemporary Crown Cut Walnut veneer adorning the V8 fascia comes as standard and perfectly complements the rest of the interior. The twenty-way adjustable leather seats are perfectly stitched and offer a level of comfort and support we have rarely experienced before. The heated, three-spoke, hide trimmed steering wheel sits perfectly in front of the driver and feels great in hand. The pure comfort of this deluxe Coupé is greatly enhanced by the ample head, shoulder and knee room on offer throughout the Continental. At the heart of the dashboard is an advanced, fully digital, driver-orientated instrument panel and the optional Bentley Rotating Display that features a 12.3-inch touchscreen housed in a three-sided unit. We found this system to be exceptionally responsive and user-friendly. The new Bentley Continental GT V8 can surge from 0 – 100 km/h in a mere 4.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 318 km/h. located inside this luxury vehicle, just waiting to be discovered. As much as we loved taking in the aesthetic beauty of this exquisite Coupé, we were most excited to get out onto the roads to see what it had to offer under the hood. As soon as we engaged the ignition, the sound of the 4.0 litre twin-turbo engine brought a smile to our faces. Combined with an eight-speed Dual Clutch transmission, this engine can produce 404 kW of power at 6000 rpm and 770 Nm of torque at 2000 – 4500 rpm. What this means is that the new Bentley Continental GT V8 can surge from 0 – 100 km/h in a mere 4.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 318 km/h! In addition, it is one of the smoothest rides you can ever hope to experience. When tackling the tarmac in the GT, its passive chassis with a pre-set balance between ride comfort and handling ensures you can take on any corner with full confidence. The air suspension uses three-chamber air springs, further improving the comfort of the ride. The Active All-Wheel Drive system varies the front-to rear torque split depending on the driving situation, with the Continental GT V8 using rear-wheel drive as much as possible during normal driving for optimum efficiency as well as a more spirited performance. We found the Electric Power-Assisted Steering to provide superb feedback to the driver and coupled with a variable rack radio, ensures an increase in manoeuvrability whilst maintaining outstanding stability. The Bentley Continental GT V8 driving experience was nothing less than sublime and we can honestly say we have never had a more enjoyable driving experience. here are few greater joys in life than that of getting behind the wheel of a truly incomparable car. Well, that is how we motorcar enthusiasts at Hadag feel anyway. When we found out we were to receive the keys to the 2021 Porsche Panamera, compliments of the outstanding team at Porsche Centre Bahrain, we knew we were in for an indulgent time. However, having testdriven many exceptional Porsche models over the years, the bar had been set very high and we were excited to find out how the new Panamera stacked up against them. As soon as the 2021 Panamera came into view it had a very obviously sharper visual appearance and greater presence than ever before. The front end is now equipped with the previously optional Sport Design, complete with distinctive air intake grilles, large side cooling openings and an adapted single-bar front light layout. Additionally, the light modules of the dual front lights are now set much further apart. At the sides, the powerful yet sleek lines of the new Panamera flow effortlessly from front to back with the 21-inch wheels, available in ten different designs, adding to the robust stance of the vehicle. The sides-sills and rear spoiler lip are finished in the exterior colour, creating a distinctive contrast against the High Gloss Black finish of the front air intakes. The 58

rear light strip has been revamped and now runs seamlessly over the luggage compartment lid with an adapted contour, gracefully linking the two newly designed LED tail light clusters to create a single element. The exhaust system is harmoniously integrated into the newly designed rear apron, with the eye-catching diffuser fins rounding it off in style. As we slipped inside the cabin of the new Panamera, we were greeted by ample space as well as the supportive, eight-way adjustable comfort seats that can be easily adapted to the needs of the driver and front passenger. The overall feel of the interior is one of ambience, with all materials, trimmings and finishes being of the highest quality. The optional panoramic sunroof adds to the already spacious feel of this luxury SUV as does the ample head, shoulder, and leg room available throughout. The luggage compartment can hold 495-litres, a total that increases to 1334-litres with the rear seats folded down. The new Panamera is now equipped with sports type C USB ports as standard and can be used to charge compatible devices with a power of up to 15 watts. The cockpit has been ergonomically orientated towards the driver, giving it a genuine sports car feel. The new multifunction sports steering wheel feels great in hand and comes complete with shift paddles and a rim finished in smooth leather. The driver is offered almost unlimited assistance by The Porsche Communication Management System (PCM) which incorporates new digital functions and services including Voice Piolet online voice control, Risk Radar, Radio Plus or wireless 60

fter a year of staying indoors, Hadag’s Rami Khalil was craving a scenery as fresh as Alpine breeze and as beautiful as a gallery-hung landscape paintings. And just as luxury came calling, the Maldives opened up its borders for travel once more. Jetting off to the uber-luxe private island resort – OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI, situated in a pristine lagoon in South Malé Atoll – it was time to rekindle the wanderlust and sink into much-needed travel bliss. When you think of the Maldives, you think of vast white-sand beaches, and the deepest of blue hues in the ocean and sky – this resort encompasses all that and more, making it a repeat tropical travel destination in our books. Arriving bright and early to the island around 9am, our group is escorted to the private airconditioned THE OZEN COLLECTION LOUNGE, before our luxurious catamaran ride to our final destination. The lounge provides us with the start we need for our mini holiday, along with a serene and ambient environment. All guests are greeted with a palm leaf garland on arrival and refreshing face towels, along with a variety of drinks and delectable bites and sweets. Staff thoroughly ensure that we receive the full pampering experience from day one. Upon finally arriving at the port, we step onto a shaded boardwalk where we are heartily greeted by the resort’s general and marketing managers. We are welcomed in the traditional Maldivian way, with the blowing of a conch shell, rhythmic ‘Bodu Beru’ drumming and Sangu whistling. After a few pleasantries and with Kurumba (fresh coconuts) in hand, off we go to our sanctuary.
ONE WITH THE OCEAN
We arrive at the Ocean Pool Suite and are immersed in a beautiful room, emitting vibrant hues of blue across the balcony and subtle oak wood inside, with pops of vibrant colours. This overwater villa also hosts a sunken indoor bath, rain shower, and over-water hammock, to fully bask in those rays of holiday sun, panoramic views of the vast open sea, and direct private access to the lagoon for a quick swim. For days when a dip in the ocean feels a bit too adventurous, we indulge in our private infinity pool. Luxury at this resort knows no bounds. We decide to stay in, relax and unwind after our travels and prepare to explore the island the next morning. This experience becomes even more serene with our personal Hiyani. In Dhivehi, the Maldivian language, Hiyani means shadow. The moment you arrive at Bolifushi island, you’ll have a personal Hiyani, or butler, who’s available 24/7 to ensure the perfect experience throughout your stay. Your Hiyani will do whatever it takes to give you a hassle-free vacation. From filling out forms to fetching forgotten objects from the room and making dinner reservations, no request is too much for these passionate butlers. We are lucky enough to be introduced to Yoosuf as our Hiyani, who goes above and beyond to make our stay memorable without us ever having to lift a finger – it really is a privilege to be here. Definitely a professional when it comes to his job, and a highlight of our entire trip was having 78

We cannot stop raving about the comfort that Yoosuf brings, and we’re sure that all the Hiyanis are trained with the same high standards, ensuring every visitor has an idyllic time. Waking up in our over-water villa is like waking up in a dream, we can just faintly hear the waves break against the wooden beams as the sun shines everso brightly telling our natural body alarm that it’s the beginning of a brand new, and beautiful day. We start our morning with not just a breakfast in bed, but rather a floating assortment of the island’s freshest breakfast picks in the pool. Pretty as a picture, the basket contains our pick of fresh grapefruit juice, sushi, salmon, muesli with yogurt and red berries, and Arabic mezze. These delightful choices are just a few of the delicious items available on the floating menu, so be sure to try them all and begin your days on the highest of notes.
AN OVERALL RETREAT
We definitely indulge in a lot of swimming during our stay, but that is a fraction of the activities and facilities that are offered at the OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI. Adventure, fitness and well-being activities include an open-air ice rink; private yacht charters; a state-of-the-art overwater gymnasium; semi-submarine adventures; water sports and complimentary bicycles. The island is home to its own idyllic overwater spa; a space for mind and body renewal and rejuvenation where we pamper our senses with the signature treatments, techniques, and yoga sessions amidst the soothing sounds of waves breaking on the shore. If you’re more of an active body, then you may also take a trip to the gym, but we love exploring the island via bicycle. Our set of wheels allows us the independence to get out and about while swiftly cutting through the ocean breezes. These are the only sets of wheels you’ll need here to cruise day or night on the massive island.

And, as much fun as we have over ground, we have even more under the water. At the water sports centre expect nothing but adventure. We indulge in snorkelling, fish feeding and swimming with the sharks in a beautiful blue abyss. One of my favourite stories is of my travel companion’s deep dive while snorkelling, with a stare down with none other than an octopus! He slowly camouflaged into the rocks behind him as a retreat. A once in a lifetime experience that will surely make for a great dinner conversation. Speaking of dinner, we all know what comes after a dip in the pool and that is a craving for comforting and delicious food. Thankfully, the island has multiple great dining experiences, which are also included in your room package. You can take a gastronomical journey around the world with each restaurant showcasing a special cuisine from Spanish to Modern Arabic, and Indian — not to mention delightful picks of enhanced beverages.

he Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho once said: “If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine, it is lethal.” We’ve all been stuck in a routine, more than ever before, during the pandemic, and life has been a whole different level of challenges. Travelling was a way of changing our scenery but, as we are well aware, Covid-19 made going on a trip a distant memory. The solution to embarking on a new adventure without leaving Bahrain – a staycation! I have to confess that I was unsure what to expect when we checked in at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain. I was excited to get away from our home and tiring routine, and I certainly knew that I was ready to experience a beachfront resort with a Maldivian feel in the heart of the Kingdom. This sounded like one of the best ideas of all time, but would this feel like a real luxury escape? At the reception, you can already feel that an incredible stay is waiting for you; the welcoming feel at the lobby and the friendly staff are a fabulous first impression. We arrived at this city resort in the middle of the afternoon, and Avee, the lovely receptionist at the check-in, explained all about the hotel and wished us a pleasant stay. The weather was just perfect, and we couldn’t wait to explore this beautiful property spanning 20 acres of lush gardens and golden sandy beaches. We are a family of four, and my eldest child was turning 16, so we had an extra reason to plan something special over the weekend. And the team at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain couldn’t have made her happier; with balloons and decorations plus an awesome cake in our room. A room that was located on the seventh floor, which also happens to be The Club Lounge floor. The view, as you can imagine, was breathtaking! We had an unobstructed picture of the immense pool, white-sand beach and the open sea that shows its expanse behind the lagoon that has been created to make your beach experience safe and private. The room was the perfect size with a comfortable king-size bed, a separate wardrobe area, a sofa and a centre table. The big screen TV can be rotated to watch from the lounge area or the bed. However, the highlight was the bathroom. A sumptuous, deep bathtub was waiting for us, and my kids couldn’t wait to get in. A massive separate area with a state-of-the-art rain shower and toilet was hidden behind glass doors, making the bathroom areas entirely private. Perfect for a family with many members and all sorts of needs. We quickly got changed into our swimsuits to enjoy the rest of the day (I promised my kids they could get into the bathtub before dinner). We crossed the bridge over the extensive pool, thinking of returning to it later because we had our eyes on the beach. Bahrain doesn’t offer many admirable public beach areas, and we absolutely love a beach vibe. Sandcastles and crystalline water were all we wanted. As I mentioned previously, the weather was just perfect, a warm summer sun shining with a cool breeze passing through. We enjoyed the beach until sunset, when it was time to go back to our bedroom and get ready for dinner (don’t forget that a relaxing time in the tub was also in the schedule). 86

Our evening meal was reserved at the Ritz Gourmet Lounge, a restaurant that transports you to Paris with its Belle Époque décor and elegant features such as rich velvet upholstered Napoleon chairs and sofas for a chic ambience like a ‘salon de thé’. Our eyes were immediately directed to the ceiling, where you can spot paintings in golden frames, fighting gravity. The menu is not extensive but is made up of all the delicious comfort food you could want. We ordered a Mezze (because I am a hummus lover), two pasta dishes (the vegetarians needed something soothing), the local Sea Bass and the Fennel and Halloumi Salad. All to be shared and enjoyed by the four of us. The Executive Pastry Chef Jonathan Challenor came to our table right when we were eating our ice-creams and insisted that we have the famous Classic Cheesecake. We were feeling satisfied; however, we had to try it, and it was the best decision of the night! We still drool at the memory of its flavour and unique soft texture, well balanced with the crunchy biscuit dough. The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain offers 13 dining experiences, all with their own characteristics and personality. From Mexican flavours at Cantina Kahlo to Nirvana, led by Chef Mahipal Singh, reflecting the decadent décor of India’s palaces. This fine-dining restaurant offers authentic dishes, including kebabs and grilled seafood. An invitation, if one were needed, to stay even longer to truly savour this city resort’s extraordinary cuisine selection. Breakfast the next day was served at the Ritz Gourmet Lounge, so we headed back to this dessert and pastry sanctuary. The fresh bread and hot black coffee were all I needed to start the day. As beach aficionados, we went straight there to lay down in the beach cabanas, play once again in the sand and walk in the low tidewaters. The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain has an incredible location in the heart of the Seef district, though you completely forget that the city is behind you and functioning at full speed. Time stopped for us. We fully embraced relaxation mode, and when leaving the hotel, we were happy that we didn’t have to go to the airport and wait for a flight back to get home. We could just drive home. Our staycation at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain ticked all the boxes and more. I completely disconnected and forgot about worries and routine and was able to embrace this mini luxury holiday with all my passion for travelling. This is a perfect escape where your mind and soul can delight in a beautiful scenario and where you can nourish your body and replenish your energy.

الروائي البرازيلي الشهير باولو كويلهو قال مرة“ :إذا كنت تعتقد أن المغامرة خطرة ،جرب الروتين إنه قاتل” .وقد علقنا في هذا الروتين أكثر من ذي قبل خالل فترة الجائحة ،وقد قدمت لنا الحياة مستوى جديد تمامًا من التحديات .كان السفر أحد أهم أساليب تغيير الجو ،ولكن مع جائحة كوفيد ،-19أصبح السفر كما نعلم جميعًا ذكرى ماضية وحلمًا بعيدًا .فما الحل من أجل خوض مغامرة جديدة بدون مغادرة البحرين؟ اإلقامة في فندق! يجب أن أعترف أنني لم أعرف ما الذي يجب أن أتوقعه عندما سجلت دخولي إلى ريتز كارلتون البحرين .كنت متحمسًا جدا لالبتعاد عن المنزل والروتين المرهق ،وكنت أعلم بالتأكيد أنني مستعد لتجربة المنتجع المواجه للبحر بلمسة مالديفية في قلب مملكة البحرين .إنها تبدو إحدى أروع األفكار مطلقًا ،ولكن هل تحقق المهرب الفاخر فع ً ال؟ في مكتب االستقبال ،يمكنك أن تشعر فع ً ال أن إقامة رائعة تنتظرك هنا ،الشعور الكبير بالترحيب في البهو الرئيسي والتعامل الودي من العاملين يعطيك انطباعًا أوليًا رائعًا .وصلنا إلى هذا المنتجع في منتصف النهار ،وشرح لنا موظف االستقبال كل ما يتعلق بالفندق وتمنى لنا إقامة سعيدة .كما كان الجو رائعًا جدا ،ولم نستطع االنتظار لكي نستكشف هذا المكان الجميل الممتد على مساحة 20هكتار من الحدائق الغناء ورمال الشاطئ الذهبية. نحن أسرة من أربعة أفراد ،وابنتي الكبرى قد بلغت 16لتوها، لذلك كان لدينا سبب إضافي لتخطيط شيء خاص في نهاية األسبوع .وقد نجح فريق ريتز كارلتون في جعل المناسبة كأسعد ما يكون ،مع البالونات والزينة باإلضافة إلى كعكة رائعة في غرفتنا .الغرفة التي كانت في الطابق السابع ،والذي يضم كذلك قاعة النادي. المشهد كما يمكن أن تتوقع يحبس األنفاس ،ال شيء يحجب عنا رؤية بركة السباحة ورمال الشاطئ البيضاء ،والبحر المفتوح أمامنا بامتداده إلى ما وراء البحيرة التي تم تشكيلها خصيصًا لجعل تجربة الشاطئ أكثر أمنًا وخصوصية .كما كانت مساحة الغرفة مثالية بسرير مزدوج مريح ،ومساحات خزانات منفصلة وأريكة وطاولة .وتلفاز قابل للتدوير لكي تشاهده من الصالة أو من السرير .ولكن األبرز كان الحمام .حيث كان بانتظارنا حوض استحمام عميق فاخر ،ولم يستطع أطفالي الصبر ليقفزوا فيه. مساحة شاسعة منفصلة مع دوش حديث جدا ،والمرحاض مخفي خلف باب زجاجي ،ليجعل مساحة االستحمام خاصة بالكامل. مثالي ألسرة متعددة األفراد ولكل منهم احتياجاته المختلفة. قمنا بتبديل مالبسنا بسرعة ،وارتدينا مالبس السباحة لكي نستمتع ببقية اليوم( .وعدت أطفالي بأنهم يستطيعون استخدام حوض االستحمام قبل العشاء) .عبرنا الجسر فوق بركة السباحة ،ونحن نفكر في العودة إليها الحقا ،ألننا كنا مهتمين أكثر بالشاطئ في هذا الوقت .ال توفر البحرين العديد من الشواطئ العامة الجذابة ،ونحن نحب شعور الشاطئ كثيرًا. القالع الرملية والماء الشفاف هو كل ما نريده .وكما ذكرت سابقًا ،كان الجو مثالي ،شمس الصيف الدافئة مازلت مشرقة مع نسيم عليل .استمتعنا بالشاطئ إلى الغروب ،عندما حان موعد العودة إلى غرفتنا واالستعداد للعشاء( ،ال تنس أن هناك خطة لالسترخاء لبعض الوقت في حوض االستحمام). قمنا بحجز عشائنا في “غورميه الونج” ،المطعم الذي ينقلك إلى باريس بديكوره المميز ومواصفاته األنيقة مثل الكراسي واألرائك المخملية على طراز نابليون ،واألجواء األنيقة مثل “صالون دي ثيه” .توجهت أعيننا فورًا إلى السقف ،حيث يمكنك مشاهدة اللوحات ذات اإلطارات الذهبية تقاوم الجاذبية األرضية. قائمة الطعام ليست ضخمة ،ولكنها تضم كل األطعمة اللذيذة التي قد ترغب فيها .طلبنا المازة (ألنني من عشاق الحمص)، وطبقين من الباستا (النباتيين يحتاجون إلى شيء لين) ،وطبق من سمك سي باس المحلي ،وسلطة الشمر والحلومي .وكل األصناف للمشاركة لنستمتع بها معًا. عندما كنا نتاول األيسكريم ،جاء إلينا الشيف التنفيذي للحلويات ،وأصر على أن نتاول التشيزكيك التقليدية الشهيرة. كنا نشعر باالمتالء ،ولكن ،كان علينا أن نجربها .وقد كانت القرار األفضل .الزال لعابنا يسيل عندما نتذكر الطعم الرائع والملمس المميز ،والتوازن الرائع مع عجينة البسكويت المقرمشة. ريتز كارلتون يقدم 13تجربة طعام ،تتميز كل منها بخصائصها وشخصيتها ،من النكهات المكسيكية في كانتينا كالو إلى نيرفانا ،بقيادة الشيف ماهيبال سنج ،هذا المطعم الذي يعكس أجواء القصور الهندية .هذا المطعم الراقي يقدم األطباق األصيلة ،بما فيها الكباب والمأكوالت البحرين المشوية .ليدعوك، إذا كنت فعال بحاجة إلى دعوة ،للبقاء لفترة أطول لالستمتاع بمجموعة المأكوالت االستثنائية في هذا المنتجع. 89

aking our way into Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa’s epicurean highlight – Maison Sushi – we arrived in time to catch not only golden hour, but also one of the most magnificent sunsets we’ve laid eyes on lately. Striding up to the second floor, where the venue lies, the panoramic windows gave us a full view of the hotel’s luxurious private beach and its adjacent waters. The light evenly distributed itself over the water as the sun set, leaving behind fleeting shades of yellow, red, and orange as it began to fade away. We were encouraged to dine on a table that was strategically placed in the corner of the restaurant, allowing us to enjoy the closing moments of that incredible sunset before turning our attention to Maison Sushi’s luxurious interiors. Because slow and steady wins the race, we started with edamame that was accented with shichimi and sea salt flakes, and arguably the best we’ve had in Bahrain. Meanwhile, Chef Myo Zaw Khine was steadily warming up our palates for the culinary surprises in store. A sample of the Dynamite Shrimp later, we were more than ready to dive tastebuds first into the rest of the menu, but in keeping with our surroundings, we sought patience. After all, it’s the Japanese who say, “Victory belongs to those who wait half an hour longer than their opponent.” As we sharpened our chopsticks in anticipation, out came the Signature Sushi Sashimi assortment (presented in a beautiful ice sculpture) and Blow Torched Dynamite Rolls. After spending a few moments gazing at the set-up, we got right into it. Achieving the perfect balance of texture, and crisp flavours, we were infatuated by the sushi! Unbelievably fresh, the ingredients used are of a high-end calibre and we can appreciate the attention and care to detail that has gone into this menu. Hadag Magazine

After devouring the signature rolls faster than we’d care to admit, we paused for a breather before the leading attraction: the mains. Indulgent options were offered, and we left it to the graceful Chef Myo. He served us the Hyogo Prefecture Wagyu Yakhi and Negi Tori Teri Kushiyaki, both cooked to glorious excellence, and inundated in teriyaki sauce that stirred our tastebuds, flawlessly. Not only was the presentation of the Wagyu set to the highest of standards, but the tenderness of the meat – paired with asparagus and shimeji mushrooms – made this dish the stuff of luxury gastronomic dreams. And the Negi Tori Teri Kushiyaki, which is actually skewered chicken and leeks, is a close second. With just the right flavours, spices, and ingredients, nothing overpowered any aspect of the dish, ensuring that it all consistently worked together. Maison Sushi’s culinary experience should always end with a sweet note. We were treated to a selection of the very best Mochi Ice Cream and, after making our way through several gourmet flavours, the Vanilla Cheesecake Mochi won our vote. ith barely a dozen tables of low, deeplypadded velvet seats, Veritas at Al Messila Resort & Spa, the newly reopened and reimagined heartland of multi-Michelinstarred executive Chef Pino Lavarra – feels more like the reading room of an exclusive members’ club than a restaurant. Dark hardwood panelling lines the walls, framing traditional hand-painted blue ceramic tiles. Three grand arches are gently illuminated by curving chandeliers of blown blue glass. We half expect to see a brooding Burt Lancaster as The Leopard, lounging over an espresso in an alcove. Under Chef Pino’s expert guidance, Chef de Cuisine Federico Bacciocchi and a small handpicked team have reimagined the menu. Bravely, it doesn’t include a single pizza! Instead, often unglamorous icons of Italian cuisine like lasagna alla bolognese, ossobuco and panna cotta have been deconstructed and refined, ingredient by quality ingredient, to arrive at their essential elements, presented with creativity and flair. Recognising fellow Italians far from home, Chef Federico urges us to let the food take us travelling in our memories, like Proust’s petites madeleines. First to the table is a breadboard bedecked with a trio of contrasting textures, straight from the oven. A palm-sized, nutty brown pane di campagna, or country loaf, breaks open to reveal pillow-soft crumb, into which herbed butter melts eagerly. We place glowing confit tomatoes on streghe imolesi (roughly translated as witches’ crackers from Imola, in Emilia-Romagna), the thinnest, crispest crackers, dusted with parmesan and

dried rosemary, and dip graceful grissini breadsticks into a cup of ricotta whipped to a fine foam. On a rough-hewn slab of stone, tiny, fragile little arancini break open to reveal earthy truffle mushroom risotto within. Beside them, the essence of bruschetta: the bread smoky toasted, drenched in deep green basil oil, loaded with red and yellow tomatoes and a pearl of burrata. Having demolished these, we investigate what looks like an unassuming pot of raw baby vegetables. Their crisp freshness hides a dark secret below, a reservoir of the northern Italian sauce bagna cauda, an umami explosion of garlic and anchovy. So much for the warm-up, we move on to more serious matters. An insalata di gamberi on a blue glass plate presents a true king among prawns, so tender it almost melts. Tartare di fassona showcases the purity of flavour and imaginative presentation that typifies Veritas: the finest cut of the protected cattle of Piedmont is knifeminced raw, seasoned with truffle and shaped into banks around a perfectly circular pool of minted pea, complemented by crumbling tiny sweet-onion shortbreads. Next comes a rare treat. Spaghetti alla chitarra is the dish for which Chef Pino won his first Michelin star. The unusual square form of the fresh pasta is bathed in a puttanesca sauce, its rich tomato spiked with black olives and tiny fried capers, and the whole swathed in a tuna carpaccio so tender it disintegrates to lace beneath our forks. The climax comes with agnello scottadito, roast lamb popularly nicknamed ‘burned fingers’ – so good you can’t wait for it to cool down to take a taste. The blushing tender meat is crowned with an extraordinary buttery crust, perfumed with lavender. As savoury addicts, it takes a lot to persuade us to leave much space for dessert. But we’re so glad we did. We are presented with two classics among Italian sweets. Served playfully on a garden trowel on a bed of frosted chocolate ‘winter soil’, the tiramisù delights even before we get to taste it. But it doesn’t disappoint. The mascarpone is whipped light as air, tinted golden by the freshness of the eggs. Real espresso coffee oozes from homemade savoiardi biscuits. Beside this dark beauty, its antithesis: a soffice souffle of Amalfi lemons. Soft as silk and topped with the fierce pink of raspberry sorbet, it tastes of potted sunlight. In the gastronomic cornucopia that is Doha, it is very difficult to achieve the uniquely excellent. But Chef Pino has succeeded in creating a truly elevated and authentically Italian fine-dining experience that, while creatively ambitious, remains true to its heritage, though far from home.
