Growing evidence suggests that the integration of natural elements into our surroundings triggers a strong positive impact on our health and wellbeing. In conjunction with Tank, Oceanco NXT is exploring the potential for nature-inspired – or biophilic – design to enrich the living spaces of their yachts. Textures, colours, forms and shapes reflect those found in the ocean, with nature elegantly interpreted through lighting, materials and organically informed furnishings. The result stimulates creativity, positivity and a sense of wonder at the natural world. Alongside this contemporary approach to the physical qualities of a yacht, Tank considers how those on board will want to use its spaces in a balanced way. The designers divide a yacht into distinct energy moods across deck levels: one for retreating and self-care; one for daily tasks like meeting loved ones, working and 10

he prestigious forerunner of the new Riva 68’ Diable project is another remarkably beautiful open yacht: the Riva Diable, which was in turn based on the Riva Super America hull. This is how Riva, and only Riva, does things: every model builds on layers of ingenuity, style and technical expertise, an evolution without ever denying tradition. he M/Y 142 is the fruit of CRN’s partnership with yacht design studio Omega Architects, for her exterior profile, and architects Massari Design, who are shaping the spaces inside. At 52 metres in length, nine metres in the beam and with a gross tonnage of 499, the new bespoke yacht spans four decks and accommodates up to 10 guests in the comfort of the main-deck owner suite and four VIP cabins below. The all-aluminium CRN M/Y 142 blends the finest Italian artisanal tradition with a design and build quality that embraces the owner’s vision and specifications. The result is a tailor-made superyacht with taut, svelte exterior lines, a near-vertical bow and a sporty, dynamic personality. The expanse of full-height tinted glazing on the main and upper decks forms a visual continuum to complement the elegant exterior architecture. So, the owners can enjoy breathtaking panoramas in the utmost onboard privacy. Even the wheelhouse has three generous windows that set off the external lines in an unbroken spatial and visual whole. On the main aft deck, yacht designer Frank Laupman’s signature arches protect the deck and frame the views from the side and stern for guests seated in consummate comfort. A hallmark of this vessel is her large, sumptuous open-air spaces. Inside and outside merge into one in a striking interplay between the outdoor areas and the ample, luminous interiors, for a peerless cruising experience. The warm, welcoming interiors offer a linear simplicity and crispness of form. They reflect an advanced contemporary-living concept with a distinctive air of refinement and a strong sense of space. he next generation of electric passenger boat flies above the water at high speeds. Unveiled in Venice, the new foiling Candela P-8 Voyager lets its passengers travel silently and comfortably through wake-sensitive areas or over delicate coral reefs, without leaving a trace. Conventional speedboats – such as taxi boats or yacht tenders – have big combustion engines and use huge amounts of petrol. As their hulls displace water, waves are formed that erode shorelines and damage coral reefs and other sensitive ecosystems. Other problems are oil spills, emissions, and sound pollution. According to reports on the Great Barrier Reef, the noise from boat engines can even cause fish to die prematurely from stress. Even as the adverse effects of motorboats are well known, there has been no sustainable alternative – that is, up until now. The Candela P-8 Voyager’s hydrodynamically shaped foils form a tiny 5cm high wake that is hardly noticeable by marine creatures and doesn’t cause erosion to beaches or coral reefs. Yet, with its Candela C-POD motor at full rev, it tops out at 30 knots and has a range of 50 nautical miles at cruise speed – going faster and further than any other electric boat. ith an overall length of 23.25 metres (73 ft 3 in) and a maximum beam of 5.75 metres (18 ft 10 in), Riva 76’ Perseo Super is the result of a technological development effort that achieves a perfect balance of past, present and future. Exterior styling features over 40 square metres of glazed surfaces on the hull and the superstructure is enhanced by new artistic features. In the streamlined profile, glossy black details intersect the ice white dominating the hull and main deck, in a contrast that accents both the sporty verve and classical elegance of this extraordinary sport-fly. One of the stand-out functional design elements in the evolution of the 76’ Perseo is the roof with an opening forward section positioned over the lounge, with the dual function of illuminating the space below and allowing fresh air to enter. The authentic Riva tradition echoes throughout the yacht in the form of mahogany and polished stainless-steel detailing, a technical and design feature that forms part of the Sarnico-based shipyard’s legacy. ELEVATED EXTERIOR The entire stern area is designed to offer maximum comfort for guests and be practical for the crew. Almost the entire swim platform can be lowered into the water, where it acts as an underwater surface to relax on and an aid to leaving the water safely. For owners who are intent on having fun, an optional second water toy can be installed on the swim platform and two seabobs in the garage on either side of the tender. The cockpit offers an area for socialising, with a sofa in the aft section and a teak dining table. On request, the entire area can be converted into a big sun pad with a mechanism that lowers the table so that it can be covered with cushions. The area is enhanced with solutions that increase the level of comfort, like the option of a drawer refrigerator under the sofa or a pouffe with a low table. A bar corner with a fridge, an icemaker, and a sink, complete the set-up so that the owner can enjoy a drink in an intimate romantic setting. On the left, under the stairs leading to the sun deck, is the entrance to the crew cabin on the lower deck. The spacious sun deck is integrated into the yacht’s aerodynamic lines, offering somewhere to relax in total privacy, plus a helm station to pilot the yacht from a privileged vantage point. All mooring gear is hidden from view, in a solution designed not to detract from the yacht’s beautiful lines, but without compromising on the practicality of technical manoeuvres and enhancing the ergonomics. A third lateral manoeuvring station is also available on request. MAIN DECK The dominant wood in the main lounge for the standard version is sand-coloured oak, juxtaposed in classic Riva style against mirror surfaces or light and dark lacquer, with polished stainless-steel detailing. The lounge is a large and inviting open space. Past the glass entry door, the living area on the starboard side is furnished with a sofa, an armchair and a pouffe designed by Gentili&Mosconi and a leather-topped coffee table. 24

Further forward is the dining area seating eight, featuring an L-shaped sofa elegantly coordinated with the oak table and black leather chairs by Arper. Forward on the starboard side and furnished with two Riva pilot seats is the helm station. LOWER DECK The lower deck too is characterised by the refined pairing of sand-coloured oak and pale or dark lacquer interspersed with bold black leather detailing, including the possibility of opting for rosewood as an alternative featured wood. The layout has three cabins for six guests, all with en-suite bathrooms, but the owner can also request a fourth cabin, configured as always to ensure optimum comfort and liveability. The master stateroom dominates the midship section of the yacht. Here the stand-out features for their refinement and minimalist design are the bed with leather headboard and sides, and the ergonomic and functional furnishings. On the starboard side is a guest cabin furnished with single beds and a separate bathroom, while the VIP cabin is in the bow, with a twin wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom with separate shower. As always, there was a special focus on acoustic insulation in this area. All the forward and aft walls in the master suite have additional insulation to guarantee maximum comfort. The crew cabin, entered from the cockpit and communicating directly with the engine room, extends horizontally to include a bathroom and a night area with two bunk beds. PROPULSION AND PERFORMANCE In line with the other great success stories in the sport range, the 76’ Perseo Super is fitted with a pair of MAN V12 V-drive engines rated 1,550 mhp each. With this configuration, the yacht has a top speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 28 knots. The owner can also opt for a more powerful propulsion system featuring two MAN V12 engines rated 1,800 MHP each, in which case the top speed rises to 37 knots and the cruising speed to 32 knots. The interior design is even more radical and striking, dominated by harmonious, flowing lines set off by several distinctive accents. The stand-out features are the helical staircase on the main deck, which leads down to the lower deck and around which the entire layout develops, the freestanding furniture, and the clean geometrical curves inspired by Art Deco, creating a perfect synthesis of sophisticated yet understated design. The versatility of the interiors translates into a project that leaves the owner ample choice to design their own onboard experience. Here too, the sense of seamless continuity between interiors and exteriors is encouraged by opening windows in both hull sides. This blend of styles and trends is now a distinctive feature of the new Ferretti Yachts, taking its cue from the “Just Like Home” concept: comfort, Italianness, timeless design and craftsmanship. Also noteworthy is the evolution of stylistic features, dominated by the rich architectural details that characterise many of the structural and interior design elements on board. he Swedish tech company Candela showcased their revolutionary flying electric boats at the annual Cannes Yacht Festival. The electric boat maker has established itself as the top electric boat manufacturer in Europe, leading electric boat sales with their first model, the Roadster of the seas: Candela C-7. Thanks to computercontrolled hydrofoils, Candela’s crafts soar above the water at high speeds and with greater range than any other electric offering on the market. The hydrofoils reduce energy consumption by 80 per cent compared to conventional combustion engine boats and allow for better endurance, and a smoother ride, than any other electric craft on the market. Hailed by Forbes as “the Tesla moment of the marine industry”, Candela is now rapidly expanding its model programme. Another recent launch from the brand was the Candela C-8, a 28-foot, next-generation electric day-cruiser equipped with the Candela C-POD. This is the company’s proprietary electric drive train, which is also the most efficient boat motor on the market. Candela’s mission is to speed up the transition to fossil-fuel-free lakes and oceans. Candela C-7 is the world’s first electric hydrofoil boat in serial production and combines long range, high speed and a silent drive train. o, what could be better than test driving the new Ferrari 296 GTB? Test driving the new Ferrari 296 GTB in Sevilla Spain of course! This month Hadag magazine travelled to the picturesque region of Sevilla in the south of Spain to put the latest creation from Ferrari through its paces. Our goal: to see how well this hybrid luxury sports car handled on both the winding roads of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla mountain range, as well as on the modern Circuito Monteblanco racetrack in La Palma del Condado, a town in the beautiful province of Huelva. After a comfortable flight, we finally touched down in Sevilla, a city located on the east bank of the River Guadalquivir, in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. After a quick hotel check in, we headed straight for the racetrack to pick up our GTB, excited at the prospect of getting our hands on a premium machine that up until now, we had only admired in pictures. Arriving at Circuito Monteblanco, we were warmly greeted by everyone. With far too many impressive aspects to talk about, we will have to stick to the highlights and hope we do this outstanding sports car justice. ELEGANT EXTERIOR Looking at the 296’s unique overall design, we could instantly see the classic Berlinetta fastback configuration has been relinquished in favour of designing a cabin that is the focal point of the car’s composition. The aesthetically pleasing combination of a visorstyled windscreen, well-muscled wings, robust buttresses and new vertical screen, combined with a short wheelbase, underscore the visually imposing cabin and add greatly to the aerodynamic nature of the vehicle. From every angle the clean architecture emphasises the sporty character of this two-door Ferrari. At the tapered frontend, the headlight design has been inspired by the teardrop-shaped headlights of times past, whilst the centre of the single-grille has been reduced in height, hinting at the presence of two powerful radiators. A Formula 1-styled compact suspended wing sitting under the grille, adds yet another novel aerodynamic attribute to this already uber streamlined vehicle. At the sides, a clearly defined crease line flows along the doors and blends with the large, cylindrical air intakes, whilst new alloy wheels with twin-spoke design added to our aching desire to get this car out onto the tarmac. Michelin have been selected by Ferrari as the 44

At the back, the flawless design of the rear wing guarantees sufficient airflow to the spoiler, ensuring optimum aerodynamic performance. The tail end exhibits a distinguished flying buttress that incorporates the engine bay cover. This cover showcases a distinctive, three-dimensional glass surface, revealing the impressive powertrain setup beneath. Other notable rear features include the Kamm tail, retracting spoiler, a central wing stowed in the bodywork between the taillights, and a modern, single central exhaust pipe. Lookswise, this Ferrari is simply flawless. INSPIRING INTERIOR Drawing inspiration from the SF90 Stradale, the cockpit of the 296 GTB focuses on the presence of advanced technology, housing an entirely digital interface. From our vantage point of the comfortable, supportive and well positioned, diapason-style sports seats, the cabin, and indeed the rest of the vehicle, has been kitted out using only the very finest of materials. From the Italian leather seats to all the premium trimmings, details and finishes, we could not spot one design choice that looked anything less than exclusive. Perhaps the most impressive element of this setup is the modern, ergonomic and completely digital interface. Once the ‘Start’ button is pressed, all the components light up, revealing the 296 GTB’s exceptional setup. The main instrument cluster has been sunk into the dashboard trim and boasts a clean and taut surface. Just below, sits the Ferrari sports steering wheel that feels perfect in hand. Two side satellites, each with its own capacitive touch area, and an air vent complete the driver’s immediate picture. The dashboard blends effortlessly with the modelled door panels in terms of both colours and materials, which in turn seamlessly

integrate with the rear trim. Focusing on the tunnel, a compartment for stowing the ignition key, complete with the Ferrari emblem, has been included, along with the SF90 Stradale-inspired contemporary take on the classic gear-shift gate. Although we could have spent all day appreciating every detail of this resplendent vehicle, we had a three-hour mountain trail to conquer and we were more than excited to take it on. DRIVING POWER The new 296 GTB is the first road car designed by Ferrari to house a V6 turbo, with a vee sporting an angle of 120° between the cylinder bank, coupled with a plug-in electric motor. This combination enables the vehicle to generate a maximum power output of 830cv, making it the most powerful rear-wheel-drive sports car on the market. This setup also makes the 296 a practical dayto-day vehicle with its full-electric mode range of 25km. Combined with an eight-speed DCT, this Ferrari produces 740Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. This allows the 296 GTB to surge from 0-100km/h in a mere 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 330km/h. Thanks to its superb braking system, it can reduce its speed from 200-0km/h in just 107 metres. SCENIC ROUTE Making our way north of the Seville province to the Sierra Norte de Sevilla mountain range in the UNESCO Global Geopark, we found ourselves smiling like Cheshire Cats as the mountain air tugged at our sleeves. Manoeuvring through this beautiful range we experienced much of what the 296 GTB has to offer. Comfortability wise, you can’t experience much better than this. The car has such great suspension, rides so smoothly, is so responsive and handles the bends so well, it almost lulls you into a subconscious autopilot. Thanks to the modern Head Up Display, excellent infotainment system, and steering wheel-based controls, you can always keep your eyes on the road ahead and we appreciated every aspect of the generous scenery. The GPS communicates efficiently and updates instantly, always ensuring you know where to go and how to get there. For three hours we meandered through the passes, truly grateful we have experiences like these for a living. REFLECTION On the flight back home, we took stock of all we had experienced in beautiful Sevilla. From the mountains, the track, the people and the food to one of the finest sports cars we have ever had the privilege of test driving. he Persian Empire of Darius the Great, the golden age of Ancient Egypt, the Hellenistic period of Ancient Greece and the rise to power of Augustus, the first Roman emperor, are the historical anchor points of Vacheron Constantin’s new Métiers d’Art watch series. As part of the partnership with the Louvre, initiated in 2019, and following intense collaboration with its curators and historians, the Maison has developed a series of four timepieces based on the museum’s ancient collections. True symbols of each era, these artistic masterpieces are at the centre of an exceptional watchmaking show staged by skilled craft makers. Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art collection is a unique opportunity to travel through time and space thanks to the talents of its master artisans. It is an opportunity to discover – or revisit – certain historical chapters or artistic and cultural symbols of our civilisations. Expressed across four eras, each of the depicted civilisations is represented by a major artistic work drawn from some of the Louvre’s masterpieces. The project involved a real challenge for craft makers that required reproducing their expressive strength on a less than 40 mm-diameter dial featuring ornamentation inspired by the decorative arts of the corresponding period, embellished with written elements. nspired by his love affair with instrumentation, François Moreau set out to create his watch company. He explains: “Of course, I was immediately confronted by the fact that most watches tell time with hands that revolve around the dial, while gauges provide information with a linear or ascending semicircular reading. So, I quickly arrived at the idea of combining a retrograde minute hand and a jump-hour indicator.” For those of you who have not experienced the engaging visual pyrotechnics of a jump-hour and retrograde-minute watch, this is what happens. The minute hand continues moving forward in a semi-circular arc until at the end of the 59th minute — bam — it jumps back to the beginning of its arc, i.e., the very first second of the first minute, without losing a fraction of a second of accuracy. This is thanks to a very cool snail-cam mechanism that loads the spring-powered hand until the penultimate moment. At the exact same time, the hour indicator, usually in an aperture somewhere near the centre of the dial, instantaneously jumps. This is, of course, not an original idea; there have been many jumphour watches over the years. Since the creation of the Reservoir brand, Moreau has offered a charming array of clean, legible, jump-hour watches characterised by a large arching minute hand, an aperture at six

tomorrow, bringing with it a brand-new day. On this special edition, the indexes are rose gold in colour, filled with luminous material, then applied to the dial for an extra touch of vibrancy and richness from the regular production watch. The entire design was an interesting exercise in playing with much warmer colour codes, such as the cream coloured Luminova used on the bezel. The end-result is a watch with a totally different character — much warmer and somehow sensual — and we love it. With the watch, they include both a rubber strap and a NATO strap with bronze hardware and keepers. This is an all-new strap design and is exclusive to the Revolution model. The Reservoir × Revolution Bronze Hydrosphere will be made in a limited edition of 100 pieces and is priced at USD4,400. It also comes with a print of an original artwork by Alain Bouldouyre, commissioned by Reservoir to tell the story of the collaboration in the lush and wonderous Maldives. Moreau says: “It’s funny, when I look at the watch and dream of wearing [it] in the Maldives, I am filled with optimism. The designs of the watches have been inspired by the worlds of automobiles, aviation and even submarines, with evocative names like the GT Tour, the Airfight and the Tiefenmesser, all executed around the same movement. Moreau’s dive watch named the Hydrosphere is one of the most functional, visible, and reliable dive watches around. But with the Hydrosphere, you get something totally different. It has to be the single most out-of-the-box, “take the path less travelled”, march-to-the-beat-of-its-owndrummer dive watch in existence, and the one and only jump-hour, retrograde minute dive watch in Christendom. When the opportunity arose to create a special edition watch with Reservoir, it was without hesitation that François Moreau asked for it to be on the Hydrosphere platform. While many might have speculated that this would be in a major city like London, New York or Singapore, the first boutique is located in the Maldives. Specifically, 50 minutes from Malé by speedboat, on a reef owned by their partners Pontiac Land where they have reclaimed three islands for three different hotels comprising a total of almost 300 villas on the water. A refined space, with a warm and welcoming spirit, in which the bohemian aesthetics of the ETRO world ignite new vibrations. The sophisticated mood of The Intimate Dining is highlighted by the contrast between fabrics in a delicate colour palette, in soft tones that range from grey to beige, with darker upholsteries, finishes and details - from mocha coloured velvets to exotic accent woods. “Made in Italy” craftsmanship is expressed in the perfection of the Rajan sideaboard, which features a dark bronze brushed varnished wooden base with a patina finish, structure in Carbalho essence and details in brass and bronze. With its presence full of charm and appeal, the Kush armchair is placed at the centre of the relaxation area. Upholstered in Nubuck leather that emphasises the soft shapes, and embellished by the tone-on-tone Paisley print, the seat features borders highlighted by golden-coloured metal studs. Highly aesthetic and functional furnishing elements, the Ambar tables are presented in new colour variations, with tops in grey and purple onyx and Irish Green marble, in elegant tones that are in line with the mood of the collection. Completing the living area is the new Rajan bar cabinet, whose essential lines are highlighted by the contrast between the bronze patina finish and the Carbalho essence dyed dark matte brown. Hadag was invited by Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, to experience three days and nights at the world-renowned Hôtel de Paris MonteCarlo. Located on the escarpment at the base of the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera, in the most famous administrative area of Monaco, Monte-Carlo; we could not have been more delighted over this invitation.
TOUCHING DOWN
After a comfortable six-and-a-half-hour flight, we touched down at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport in the early afternoon. Our lavish experience began soon after disembarking the aeroplane, with a luxury Mercedes, compliments of Hôtel de Paris, transferring us to the hotel. On route to our destination, we could already feel the captivating nature of the place, as we took in the mountain, beach and architectural views.
HÔTEL DE PARIS MONTE-CARLO
Built in 1864, this fairytale venue recently underwent a €250 million transformation, to ensure it remains one of the most glamourous and sought-after hotel destinations in the world. Housing 209 rooms, including a variety of suites and newly modernised bedrooms, this uberexclusive hotel has been designed to satisfy those who are used to an extravagant lifestyle. With four lavish restaurants, a renowned lounge bar, a beautifully equipped wellness centre, celebrated cellars, a Rossano Ferretti Hair spa, along with the perfect central location, Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo is equipped to guarantee the most lavish of hotel experiences. Upon arrival we were greeted like royalty. After a hassle-free check in, I soon found myself in my opulent bedroom, marvelling at the spectacular view from my balcony, overlooking the port of Monaco. Calcutta marble, Tussar silk and Pima cotton are amongst the precious materials used throughout the spacious accommodation. Expertly crafted wooden furniture and antique mirrors, along with light and modern decorative touches, all added to the room’s upmarket character. The inclusion of complimentary fresh fruits and pastries added a nice welcoming touch to my arrival.
DIVINE DINING
Two food and drinks’ experiences really stood out during our stay. The first was an evening aperitivo at the open-air courtyard, Le Patio. A perfect location to sit, relax and take in the splendour of the property. Entering Le Bar Américain, we felt as if we had been transported to the grandeur of the 1920s, with the bar itself looking like something out of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby. Cosy ambiance and the sounds of a live blues band add 82

االسم الرسمي هو إمارة موناكو ،هذه الدولة المستقلة ذات السيادة تقع في وسط الساحل األزوري ،تحدها فرنسا من الشمال والشرق والغرب ،أما من الجنوب فيحدها البحر المتوسط ،اليوجد في السوق العقاري موقع أكثر جاذبية من هذا. بمساحتها التي ال تتجاوز 2.1كم مربع ،وعدد سكانها األقل من 39ألف نسمة (منهم 12,261مليونير) فإن هذا الموقع االستثنائي هو ثاني أصغر دولة ذات سيادة في العالم ،بعد الفاتيكان. وبالرغم من أن الفرنسية هي اللغة الرسمية ،إال أن اللغات األخرى مثل اإلنجليزية واإليطالية ولغة موناكو أيضا مستخدمة لدى العديد من السكان. تلقت حداق دعوة من مجتمع حمامات بحر مونت كارلو ،لقضاء ثالثة أيام بلياليها في فندق دي باريس مونت كارلو بعد تجديده ،هذه الفندق المقام على حافة قاعدة جبال االلب البحرية على امتداد الريفييرا الفرنسية ،في أشهر المناطق اإلدارية في موناكو ،مونت كارلو ،وبالطبع لم تسعنا الفرحة، وسارعنا بتلبية الدعوة.

بعد رحلة مريحة استغرقت ست ساعات ونصف الساعة ،هبطنا إلى مطار نيس كوت دي أزور ،بعد الظهر مباشرة .وقد بدأت تجربتنا الرائعة بمجرد هبوطنا من الطائرة ،حيث استقبلتنا سيارة مرسيدس فارهة من فندق دي باريس ،لتقلنا إلى الفندق. في طريقنا إلى وجهتنا كان بإمكاننا الشعور بالطبيعة المميزة للمكان ،مع رؤيتنا لمشاهد الجبل والشاطئ والطراز المعماري.
فندق دي باريس مونت كارلو

to the deluxe décor. The bar’s new terrace offers remarkable views of Place du Casino, Casino de Monte-Carlo, and the Mediterranean Sea. Next, we headed to Le Grill. Located on the eighth floor of the hotel, this Michelin-Starred restaurant features marine-inspired décor, Mediterranean gourmet cuisine and a view from the extended terrace that spans all the way to Corsica. The restaurant’s roof opens fully and the stars are only the beginning of Le Grill’s breathtaking evening view. Lights from the coasts of Monaco, France and Italy are all visible, along with the illuminated boats moored along the bay. Renowned chefs, Frank Cerutti and Patrick Laine, provide Le Grill with a wide assortment of meat and fish dishes, whilst Pastry Chef, Olivier Berger, has created an assortment of outstanding soufflés, a quintessential French culinary tradition in which we had to indulge. Thoroughly satisfied by our dining experience at Le Grill, it was time to retire to our wonderfully comfortable beds for the evening. A better night’s sleep would be hard to come by.
SOAK UP THE SUN
The following morning, we headed out for an early walk around Monaco, to experience as much of this enchanting location as we possibly could. We began our adventure with a stroll along the world-famous Larvotto Beach in Monte-Carlo, followed by several famous monuments. These landmarks included the impressive Cathedral of Monaco built in 1875, the Oceanographic Museum, the Odeon Tower, The Louis II Stadium, The Grimaldi Forum and the Monte-Carlo Casino. We ended off our architectural tour with perhaps the most impressive building of them all, The Prince’s Palace of Monaco, the official residence of the Sovereign Prince. Constructed as far back as 1191, this fortress has a long, rich history and we could have spent all day taking in the intricate details of its design. Before heading back to the hotel, we took a walk along a section of the almost 3.5km circuit of the

Monaco Grand Prix. Considered to be the jewel in the crown of the Formula One calendar, this famous stretch of road offers stunning views of the yacht-packed harbour, as well as the grand buildings of Monte-Carlo. With a plethora of scenic views, high-street shopping locations and exclusive dining venues, Monaco has plenty to offer all those willing to shell out the Euros.
THERMES MARINS MONTE-CARLO
We made our way to yet another remarkable Monacan location, Thermes Marins MonteCarlo, for a day of health and pampering. This 6,600sq/m facility is dedicated to wellness, fitness and preventative health. It offers an assortment of treatments and is equipped with a wide range of technology designed to assist anti-ageing, slimming, health and performance. Thermes Marins houses a large terrace, a swimming pool, a steam room, a sauna, a bar/lounge area, an outdoor Jacuzzi, a solarium, a Hammam and a panoramic fitness room, amongst other exceptional amenities.
DINNER AT BUDDHA BAR
After a few hours of deluxe down time at the hotel, it was time to satisfy our culinary cravings once more. Chef Éric Guillemaud is responsible for the menu consisting of Asian culinary delights from Japan, Thailand, China and Southeast Asia. He combines these delightful dishes with French culinary excellence, resulting in meals fit for royalty. Seated on one of the two open-air terraces, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, along with the subtle blend of chillout, lounge and world music provided by local icon, DJ Papa.
TIME TO SAY AU REVOIR
On the flight back, we sat and reminisced over our once-in-a-lifetime adventure. From the exceptional Hôtel de Paris to all the spectacular views, meals and venues we were fortunate enough to experience, we could not have felt more satisfied and grateful to have undertaken this truly captivating journey.

With its stunning scenery, crystalclear waters, seemingly neverending selection of white-sand beaches and abundance of marine life, it truly is a taste of paradise here on earth. Each island is different but all share the themes of beauty, luxury and a warm welcome.
THE REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES
The Maldives is an ancient island nation located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 750km from mainland Asia. Consisting of 1,192 islands and stretching 871km across the equator, this archipelagic country is formed by 26 natural atolls, making it one of the primary world destinations for experiencing ocean life. Positioned on top of a vast underwater mountain range and encircled by a lagoon of crystal-clear waters, The Maldives is in a league of its own in terms of geographical location and natural beauty. With a recorded history dating back over 2,500 years, The Maldives houses a diverse population, range of cultures and traditions, due to its location and the resulting influx of people from other countries over the centuries. The official Maldivian language is Dhivehi, with English securing second place for most popular language spoken. This month, thanks to The Republic of Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, the Hadag team were invited to spend six days in this heavenly destination. Booked into no less than three of the finest hotels the islands have to offer, we were thoroughly spoilt throughout our utopian experience.
OUR ARRIVAL
After a four-and-a-half-hour flight, we touched down at Velana International Airport located on Male. A quick and comfortable car ride to the harbour, compliments of the Ministry, and we soon found ourselves on a speedboat, out on crystalline waters, weaving our way amongst the picturesque islands, along the 9km route to our first destination.

Even from a distance, the island of Furanafushi offers breath-taking beauty with its swaying palms and turquoise waters. As we disembarked from the boat, we were welcomed by pristine white sandy beaches, lush green vegetation and attentive staff from The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.

بعد رحلة استغرقت أربع ساعات ونصف الساعة انطالقا من قطر ،هبطت بنا الطائرة في مطار فيلنا الدولي في مالي. لنركب سيارة سريعة ومريحة إلى الميناء ،وفرتها لنا الوزارة، وسرعان ما وجدنا أنفسنا في قارب سريع ،على سطح المياه الصافية نشق طريقنا باتجاه الجزر فائقة الجمال ،في رحلة لمسافة 9كم نحو وجهننا األولى.

This five-star Sheraton resort consists of 176 newly renovated rooms and suites. The layout features a variety of accommodation options including elegant deluxe rooms, charming cottages, indulgent water bungalows and villas, along with an expansive two-bedroom water suite. As we toured the facilities, we noticed how each accommodation has been meticulously designed to blend into the island landscape, with amazing views and plenty of privacy for all visitors.
SHINE SPA
Our first resort experience was at the awardwinning Shine Spa, located on its own small island nearby. Equipped with six luxurious treatment villas, a VIP treatment suite, a his and hers hydrotherapy pool and a steam room, we couldn’t have felt more relaxed and refreshed after partaking in several of the available holistic treatments.
DIVINE DINING
Over our two-day stay, we got to indulge at several high-end restaurants located on the island. These upscale eateries included Feast, Salt, Sand Coast, Baan Thai and House, all of which proved to be exceptional. Combined, they offer a wide range of delicious cuisines including seafood, Asian fusions, Thai food and Chinese dishes, many of which were served either buffet style or à la carte. Both Kakuni Hut and Anchorage Bar offered even more laid-back atmospheres, proving to be ideal spaces to unwind with a cold beverage, taking in the sunset. Additionally, The Sheraton offers several unique dining experiences. Romantic in-pool sunrise breakfasts, dining cruises on your own private floating island and picnics at one of the island’s secluded spots, reveal how the hotel goes out of its way to create memorable moments for its guests. We were fortunate enough to enjoy the iconic Sandbank Privé, a dining experience that really blew us away. Consisting of a tailored five-course menu, created by our own personal chef, this one-of-akind meal is served on a sandbank in the ocean. This scrumptious lunch was followed by an unforgettable private dolphin cruise with bubbly and canapés. Witnessing these intelligent and gentle creatures in the wild was a thrilling experience as we watched them effortlessly cruise alongside the boat.
ACTIVITIES
Furanafushi is situated in the North Male Atoll, home to more than 40 world-class diving points and multiple snorkelling locations. Perhaps the most fulfilling activity we undertook over our two days on the island was joining the ‘Adopt a Coral’ programme. This coral-fragment plantation activity promotes the growth and regeneration of reef habitats. Led by experts, guests are offered a hands-on experience in which coral fragments are secured to frames that are then placed in specific underwater locations. It’s hoped that the coral from these frames will eventually grow onto the natural reef substrate and thus improve the coral cover to the benefit of local marine life. With plenty of other diving locations on offer, along with guided snorkelling tours, water sports, island adventures and countless spots to relax on the pristine beaches, we were never without options and thoroughly enjoyed every moment we spent on Furanafushi. Before we knew it, we were back on the speedboat heading for Male. There, a seaplane awaited us, ready 92

THE WESTIN MALDIVES, MIRIANDHOO RESORT
With no airport hassles and a smooth water take-off, the 113km seaplane journey proved to be a comfortable one, taking just 15 minutes to complete. As we approached Miriandhoo from the air, we were able to appreciate the resort’s remarkable layout.
LAYOUT & ACCOMMODATION
The Ocean villas are beautifully positioned along the necklace of a double jetty, shaped like a giant fish. With units on both the eastern and western sides of the jetty, the space has been well utilised, providing both sunrise and sunset facing options, all of which enjoy a panoramic view of the crystal-clear ocean. Numerous Beach villas, some with pools, some without, are scattered on both the south and north beaches of the island. Family villas and a luxury suite are also on offer. All villas are separated by lush green vegetation, ensuring maximum privacy and insulation from any neighbouring noises. It was explained to us that the structures’ designs were inspired by natural elements and have been built in an ecofriendly and sustainable manner. Touching down, we were warmly welcomed by members of The Westin staff, receiving refreshments and kind words the moment our feet touched the wooden jetty.
SPA TREATMENTS
During our stay, we got in some light exercise at the WestinWorkout Fitness studio, as well as delightful Ocean Spa treatments at the signature
Heavenly Spa by Westin. There, we chose to indulge in the new Detox & Destress programme; a series of treatments aimed at relaxing and rebalancing guests. This left us not only feeling calm and revitalised, but ensured we slept deeply throughout the night.
FINE DINING
With several premium restaurants within the deluxe Westin resort, we were spoilt for choice over our two glorious days on the island. These venues included The Island Kitchen, Hawker, Sunset Bar and, our personal favourite, The Pearl, where we sat down for a memorable meal. Buffet breakfasts, á la carte dining, Asian street food, tapas and Japanese-style seafood were all a part of our culinary experience on Miriandhoo Island, and we thoroughly enjoyed each and every dish we were served.
ACTIVITIES
As amazing as the island and its infrastructure are, it’s the activities that will remain foremost in our memories. The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is located in the Baa Atoll UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, an area that supports one of the largest groups of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean, accounting for 5% of the world’s reef area. We were treated to an unforgettable snorkelling extravaganza and witnessed several endangered species including green and hawkbill turtles, along with Napoleon wrasses and a Tawny Nurse Shark. The coral reefs on their own make the journey to Miriandhoo worthwhile and we spent hours appreciating the sea life that inhabit these expansive reefs. Another small but beautiful virgin coral island that belongs to the hotel is located 700m north of Miriandhoo. Left untouched, this visually striking

النشاطات

مع عدم وجود مطار بإزعاجه ،فقد أقلعت الطائرة المائية من سطح المحيط ،في رحلة لمسافة 113كم ،وقد كانت رحلة مريحة حقًا ،استغرقت 15دقيقة فقط .وعندما وصلنا إلى ميرياندهو، أثار إعجابنا منظر المنتجع الرائع من الجو.
التوزيع واإلقامة
الفيالت البحرية في المحيط موزعة بشكل جميل في سلسلة مزدوجة ،تشبه شكل سمكة عمالقة .مع وجود وحدات على الجانبين الشرقي والغربي للممر ،في تصميم يحقق استغالل جيد للمساحة ،ليوفر للفيالت فرصة مشاهدة شروق الشمس وغروبها، وكل فيال بالطبع تتمتع بمشهد بانورامي لمياه المحيط الصافية. فيالت الشاطئ العديدة ،بعضها به مسبح وبعضها بدون، موزعة على الشاطئين الشمالي والجنوبي للجزيرة .كما يوجد فيالت عائلية وأجنحة فاخرة كذلك. جميع الفيالت يفصل بينها حاجز من النباتات الخضراء المورقة، لضمان أقصى درجات الخصوصية ومنع وصول أي ضوضاء مجاورة. وقد أوضحوا لنا أن تصميمات المباني مستوحاة من العناصر الطبيعية كما تم بناؤها بطريقة صديقة للبيئة ومستدامة. عندما هبطنا ،كان في استقبالنا فريق من العاملين في ويستين الذين رحبوا بنا ترحيبا حارا ،وقدموا لنا المرطبات مع عبارات الترحيب اللطيفة.

في وجود العديد من المطاعم المتميزة داخل منتجع ويستين الفاخر ،فقد شعرنا بالحيرة في االختيار على مدار يومين رائعين على الجزيرة .تضمنت هذه األماكن مطبخ الجزيرة ،هاوكر ،مشرب الغروب، أما المفضل لدينا فكان اللؤلؤة ،حيث جلسنا لتناول وجبة ال تنسى. كانت وجبات اإلفطار على طراز البوفيه المفتوح ،وتناول الطعام من القائمة االنتقائية ،كانت أطعمة الشوارع اآلسيوية ،والتاباس، والمأكوالت البحرية على الطريقة اليابانية جزءا من تجربة الطهي تماما بكل طبق لدينا في جزيرة مييراندهو ،وقد استمتعنا ً استطعنا أن نجربه.

KURAMATHI MALDIVES
Leaving Miriandhoo Island, we were more than happy to have a second seaplane experience. Soon, we found ourselves back on Male, heading for yet another speedboat. The 59km ocean journey to Kuramathi Island took around 90 minutes, time we spent taking in the unending views and magnificent sunshine. Kuramathi Maldives is an eco-friendly island resort located in Rasdhoo Atoll, on one of only five islands in a tiny archipelago. The area is famous for its abundant and diverse marine life, including sea turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, hammerhead sharks and large fish including tuna. Vibrant reefs are another huge attraction and the entire area is well-known as a supreme diving destination.
THE LAYOUT
As we approached the jetty, we were greeted by the now familiar site of lush greenery, white hourglass-sand beaches and attentive hotel staff. One of the biggest resorts in the Maldives, the layout of this five-star retreat is spread out over the 1.8km long island. Twelve villa categories offer an array of options for guests, including both modest beach villas and charming water villas. All guest villas face secluded areas of long beaches or are poised over water, providing privacy for all occupants. Some of the villas include hot tubs or private pools. An outdoor tennis court is also available for guests.
KURAMATHI SPA
Set amongst luscious vegetation with clear views of the ocean, this luxurious spa’s facilities include 13 treatment rooms, rain showers, a herbal essence steam bath, a Finnish sauna, and a Cool Dip Pool. After a soothing pre-treatment herbal tea, we enjoyed several treatments, including skin care and deep body massages. By the time we were done, we felt as if we were floating; our bodies having never felt better.
DELICIOUS DINING
Kuramathi Resort houses no less than nine à la carte restaurants, three international buffet restaurants and offers several private dining options. Over our two days on the island, we were fortunate enough to indulge in teppanyaki dining at Kobe, Mediterranean dishes at Palm, as well as sumptuous Asian specialities at Inguru. We were even lucky enough to be invited for fine dining at Duniye, the resort’s premium restaurant, where we partook of an array of world cuisines. Every dish we tasted was exceptional and we cannot sing the praises of these restaurants loudly enough. Seven bars are located across the resort, providing ideal spots to relax with friends or to take in the picturesque sunsets over the turquoise waters. Live music, a resident DJ and karaoke evenings all added to the festive atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed hopping from one venue to the next. 94

ACTIVITIES
As an ideal location for families, groups and couples, Kuramathi Maldives offers a wide variety of activities for all ages and levels of fitness. Our first experience was a leisurely walk through the island’s botanical gardens. Here we were introduced to several species of plants used for a wide range of purposes. We highly appreciated the beauty of these grounds, as well as the wealth of knowledge provided by our guide. Of course, we had to have an ocean experience whilst in Rasdhoo Atoll and we were not disappointed. We were taken to several snorkelling spots where we spent hours inspecting the colourful coral reefs and abundance of marine life. There are several diving options for established divers, including the popular excursion to Shark Point. There, skilled practitioners can dive with various types of sharks, rays, turtles and barracuda. For guests not yet qualified, the resort offers SSI and PADI diver qualification courses, run by experienced instructors. With so many recreational activities available for guests, including an array of water sports, boat rides, cruises, island hopping and even adventures in a semi-submarine, there is definitely something for everyone at Kuramathi Maldives.

PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW
All too soon it was time to bid farewell to Kuramathi and the Maldives. Boarding a speedboat for Male one last time, a bittersweet sensation engulfed us. Although hugely grateful for our time amongst these spectacular islands, we experienced some sorrow at having to leave all this beauty behind. During the plane ride back home, we reminisced over our once-in-a-lifetime Maldivian experience. The friendly faces of the locals and hotel staff, the spectacular island views, the amazing marine life, the warm welcoming waters of the ocean, along with the sumptuous cuisine and breathtaking sunsets. The adventure of this magical location will forever hold a special place in our hearts and memories.

Everyone has heard the name of this famous European city, but until you have walked the streets, sampled the cuisine and spent time with the spirited locals, you have no idea how wonderful this cosmopolitan city truly is. Team Hadag were invited, by the world-renowned Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, to spend two unforgettable days and nights at their highly sought-after location in Barcelona. Of course, we gratefully accepted and, within a few short days, found ourselves touching down on the north-eastern coast of Spain, at Barcelona International Airport, ready to start our Catalonian adventure.
OUR ARRIVAL
As we made our way to the hotel, we were soon captivated by the city’s mind-blowing architecture, along with the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. By the time we pulled up at the Mandarin Oriental, we knew we had to spend a considerable amount of our time exploring this enthralling metropolis. The moment our ride stopped at the main entrance, we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff, ready to assist us in any way possible. After a hassle-free check in, I soon found myself in my Mandarin Junior Suite, smiling from ear-to-ear at what was to be my home base for the next two days and nights. The Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona is a five-star, contemporary hotel located in the heart of the city’s famous Passeig de Gracia. It contains 120 rooms and suites, along with several dining spots, meeting facilities, beautiful gardens and an award-wining spa. With an array of even grander suites than my own available, it’s no surprise that the rich and famous frequent this luxurious location. The first feature I noticed about my junior suite, aside from the spacious nature of the room, was the welcoming arrangement left for me on the table. An assortment of nuts, dried fruits, fresh fruit juices, bottled waters and desserts, along with a fresh fruit platter, was a beautiful touch and a great way to start my stay. Custom-made woven rugs, high-quality leather furniture and light-wood floors, all adorn the Junior Suites, further adding to the deluxe experience. A terrace overlooking the hotel’s Mimosa Garden was yet another great feature, along with the glass-enclosed bathroom, containing a rain-forest, walk-in shower. A 24hour butler service is on offer for all suites, ensuring your every desire is immediately attended to.
FINE DINING
Over the course of our stay, we were fortunate enough to experience some of the outstanding culinary locations housed within the hotel.
MOMENTS
It didn’t take us long to work out why Moments is The Mandarin Oriental’s premium restaurant. This award-wining location is managed by multi-Michelin-Star winner, Carme Ruscalleda, 98

برشلونة! الجميع قد سمع اسم هذه المدينة األوروبية الشهيرة ،ولكن إلى أن تمشي في شوارعها ،وتجرب طعامها وتمضي فيها وقتا مع الروح المحلية ،فإنك ال تملك أي فكرة عن مدى روعة هذه المدينة العالمية. هذا الشهر ،حصلت حداق على دعوة ،من مجموعة الفنادق الشهيرة ماندارين أوريانتل ،لقضاء يومين بلياليهما في فندقهم ذي الشعبية الكبيرة في برشلونة .بالطبع قبلنا الدعوة بامتنان ،وخالل أيام قليلة وجدنا أنفسنا على الساحل الشمالي الغربي إلسبانيا ،في مطار برشلونة الدولي، مستعدين لبدء مغامرتنا في كتالونيا.
الوصول
بمجرد وصولنا وأثناء طريقنا إلى الفندق ،سرعان ما وقعنا أسرى للهندسة المعمارية المذهلة للمدينة ،ضمن الشوارع الصاخبة المزدحمة .ومع وصولنا إلى الفندق ،كنا قد عرفنا أن علينا قضاء أطول وقت ممكن في استكشاف هذه المدينة الساحرة. في اللحظة التي توقفت بنا السيارة أمام المدخل الرئيسي للفندق ،تلقينا استقباال وديا من الموظف المستعد لمساعدتنا بكل طريقة ممكنة .بعد تسجيل وصولنا بدون أية صعوبات ،سرعان ما وجدت نفسي في الجناح الصغير في الماندارين ،وابتسامتي تمأل وجهي لرؤية المكان الذي سيكون سكني خالل اليومين القادمين. فندق ماندارين برشلونة ،فندق عصري 5نجوم ،يقع على الشارع الرئيسي الشهير باساج دي جراسيا .ويضم 120غرفة وجناح ،باإلضافة إلى عدد من مواقع الطعام ،وقاعات اجتماعات، وحدائق جميلة ،وسبا حائز على جوائز .مع وجود مجموعة من األجنحة األكبر من الجناح الذي أقيم فيه ،لن تكون مفاجأة أن يكون هذا الفندق الفاخر وجهة األثرياء والمشاهير. الميزة األولى التي الحظتها في جناحي الصغير ،بصرف النظر عن الطبيعة الفسيحة للغرفة ،كانت الترتيب الترحيبي الذي ينتظرني على الطاولة .كانت مجموعة متنوعة من المكسرات والفواكه المجففة وعصائر الفاكهة الطازجة والحلويات والمياه المعبأة في زجاجات ،إلى جانب طبق من الفاكهة الطازجة، لمسة جميلة وطريقة رائعة لبدء إقامتي. األجنحة الصغيرة يزينها سجاد منسوج خصيصا ،وأثاث جلدي عالي الجودة وأرضيات خشبية فاتحة ،مما يزيد من تجربة الرفاهية .كانت الشرفة المطلة على حديقة ميموزا في الفندق ميزة رائعة أخرى ،إلى جانب الحمام الزجاجي الذي يحتوي على مقصورة دش مطيرة رائعة .تتوفر خدمة الخادم الشخصي على مدار 24ساعة لجميع األجنحة ،مما يضمن تلبية جميع رغباتك بصورة فورية.

خالل فترة إقامتنا ،أسعدنا الحظ بتناول الطعام في بعض المطاعم الفريدة الموجودة في الفندق.

This all-day-dining venue proved to be an exceptional restaurant, featuring striking décor and a superb menu. If you’re a fan of Peruvian food, visit Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona’s Terrat rooftop terrace which is on the ninth floor, with 360º panoramic views. It offers guests a wide variety of beverages and a delicious selection of Peruvian delights as well as recipes from international star Chef Gastón Acurio. Treats include ceviches, tiraditos and a wide range of cocktails available until late night. It’s the perfect choice for enjoying the gentle Barcelona breeze and spectacular views during the season. The hotel’s other excellent venues include Banker’s Bar, with a ceiling covered in old safety deposit boxes; and Mimosa Garden, an exclusive al fresco venue filled with lavender and sunshine.

During our stay at Mandarin Oriental, we were excited to experience the hotel’s celebrated spa. With seven treatment rooms, a 12-metre spa lap pool, an Oriental steam room, a relaxation area, a fully-equipped fitness centre and a spa boutique, this venue is well-equipped to say the least. I was lucky enough to undergo the Exclusive Energising Men’s Facial Treatment. Specifically designed to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, this treatment left my skin feeling soft yet toned, and I couldn’t remember the last time my complexion looked so radiant. For great feeling youthful skin, we highly recommend the amazing facial treatments by Valmont offered at this facility.
BARCELONA CENTRAL
Thanks to Mandarin Oriental’s central location, the best of Barcelona was literally on our doorstep, and we took full advantage of our free time to explore as much of this magnificent area as we possibly could over two days. Starting at the Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona’s main square, we strolled the avant-garde district of Passeig de Gràcia, feeling spoilt for choice with all that was on offer. Architecture being our primary fascination, we made sure to take in all of the exceptional structures around us. ‘Modernist’ buildings, luxury boutiques and upscale restaurants, all adorn this touristfriendly area, and we thoroughly enjoyed the sociable locals we encountered along the way. A little further out and the bold architecture becomes even more extraordinary. Our favourite structures included the fantastical themed Casa Batlló, with its pastel-coloured mosaic front and a roof shaped like a dragon’s 100

بفضل الموقع المركزي للفندق ،فإن أفضل أمكن برشلونة كانت على بعد خطوات حرفيا ،وقد قمنا باستغالل هذه الميزة في أوقات الفراغ من أجل استكشاف ما يمكننا استكشافه من هذه المنطقة الرائعة خالل يومين فقط. بداية من ساحة بالس كتالونيا ،الساحة الرئيسية في برشلونة، تجولنا في حي باساج دي جراسيا ،وشعرنا بأننا محطوطين جدا بتوفير كل ما هو معروض أمامنا ،الهندسة المعمارية هي السحر األساسي ،وقد حرصنا على تأمل جميع المباني الفريدة من حولنا ،المباني العصرية الحديثة ،والبوتيكات الفاخرة والمطاعم الراقية ،كلها تزين المنطقة وتجعلها صديقة للسياح ،وخاصة مع التعامل الودي المرحب أكثر يتميز به السكان االجتماعيين الذي التقينا بهم على طول الطريق. إذا مضيت أبعد قليال ،ستجد الطراز المعماري أصبح أكبر تميزا ،من المباني المفضلة لدينا كان تصميم كازا باتلو الرائع ،بواجهة من الفسيفساء بلون الباستيل وسقف على شكل ذيل التنين ،باإلضافة إلى ال بيدريرا ،ذو السلم الحلزوني الداخلي المذهل ،وإطاللة بانورامية من السقف ،إن برشلونة مدينة جميلة نابضة بالحياة بال شك. 101

All too soon, it was time to say goodbye to Barcelona and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Having thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we relived our experiences on the six-and-a-half-hour flight home. The luxurious rooms, the friendly hotel staff, the delicious cuisine and beautiful city sites, all made for an unforgettable adventure. rriving mid-afternoon, parking is easy and plentiful and reception has a definite edge of cool while, at the same time, feeling both calming and relaxing. A chilled colour palette of pale oatmeal and off-white with accents of Aegean and cerulean blue feels very Ibizan – reminiscent of those villas in the hills where the glitterati hide out during the day till the mega clubs open. The welcoming staff are dressed in funky uniforms: white chunky trainers on bare feet, in lieu of the usual smart shoes, brightly coloured pocket squares adorning tailored jackets in a material that could easily be denim. But isn’t. They look as if they could be here to meet friends for an aperitivo but the service is impeccable.
THE WOW FACTOR
I head to my suite and am greeted by an absolutely breathtaking view as I open the door. It looks directly across to floor-to-ceiling windows facing onto beach and sea with Amwaj Islands in the distance. I literally stand and catch my breath before strolling over to see a hand-written message of welcome written on the glass – there are a lot of these around the hotel and they add to the fun ambience. The space is light-filled and airy with two sets of balcony doors opening to the outside and the view, which from the distance is all sea but closer up, also encompasses the spotless beach 104

عند وصولنا في الظهيرة كانت المواقف سهلة والمنظمة ووفيرة وعند دخول الى االستقبال تجده مريح وهادئ في آن واحد .ألوان مريحة للعين من الشوفان واألبيض السمني مع لمسات لطيفة من بحر ايجة باللون األزرق ،الذي يذكرنا بتلك االكواخ الزرقاء الجميلة الموجودة على التالل والتي يسترخي فيها الناس حتى تبدأ النوادي الليلية الضخمة .يرتدي فريق االستقبال مالبس غير اعتيادية :كاألحذية الرياضية بدون جوارب بدال من األحذية الرسمية المعتادة ،وجيوب بربعة بألوان زاهية تزين السترة المريحة تبدوا مصنوعة من الدنيم ،ولكنها ليست كذلك .أال يبدو المنظر وكأنهم مجتمعون مع األصدقاء لقضاء وقت ممتع ،ولكن الخدمة هنا مثالية.
عنصر الدهشة
توجعت إلى الجناح الخاص ،بي عند دخولي شعرت بالذهول من جمال المنظر ،فمن النافذة التي تمتد بارتفاع الحائط، يقابلني منظر يحبس األنفاس للشاطئ الرائع ومن بعيد تظهر جزر أمواج .وقفت ألتقط أنفاسي ،ألجد عبارات الترحيب المكتوبة على الزجاج ،هناك الكثير منها في أنحاء الفندق ،بما يضيف المزيد من المرح على جو المكان. المكان مضيئ والهواء متجدد ،وهناك مجموعتين من أبواب الشرفة تفتح على الخارج ،ثم هناك إطاللة على منظر البحر عن قرب ،وكذلك الشاطئ الرائع والحدائق المحيطة ذات المناظر الطبيعية .بدأت أشعر حقا بأنني في عطلة. يتكون جناحي الخاص من غرفة معيشة واسعة وطاولة طعام بالكراسي وأريكة وكراسي مريحة ،ومطبخ مجهز بموقد وثالجة ،وحمام خاص للضيوف .عند الدخول إلى الغرفة تجد حمام مجهز بكل وسائل الراحة ومن المميز وجود ركن خاص لمستلزمات السفر ألعواد القطن وفرش لألسنان ،هناك دش منفصل عن حوض االستحمام الذي يطل على منظر رائع. أما السرير ،ويا له من سرير ،كبير وناعم ومريح ومزود بمخدات مريحة وهو أيضا يطل على الشرفة ذات المنظر الرائع.
العديد من الخيارات
خيارات كل منهما أفضل من اآلخر ،االستحمام أو االستسالم لنداء السرير .ولكن أوال يجب أن أبدأ باستكشاف المكان ،فهذا ما جئت من أجله. توجهت نحو الشاطئ الدافئ متمتعة بملمس الرمال الناعمة على باطن قدمي ،إنه إحساس رائع ال تمل منه .في أحد طرفيه يتصل شاطئ فيدا بالمنطقة المفتوحة في حين يتصل الطرف اآلخر بمجمع مراسي التجاري وبشاطئ منتجع بحرين ،المتوقع له ان يفتتح في نهاية هذا العام .يبلغ طول هذا الشاطئ 2كم من الرمال الناعمة والمياه الرائعة التي يصعب مقاومة إغرائها. توجهت نحو الردهة ،ألمر بجوار اورجنز المطعم المفتوح طوال اليوم للوصول الى فيدا فرايداي برانش المشهور جدا ،وبعدها اتجهت الى الطابق الثاني ،ألرى المزيد مما يقدمه المنتجع. أوال نجد مسبح يتم التحكم بدرجة حرارته ،ومنطقة رائعة لالسترخاء تشبه أحالم هوكني-إسكي ،كراسي بيضاء ،المياه زرقاء تحت شمس ساطعة ،وبالطبع هناك بار لطيف ليقدم مشروبات منعشة. مركز اللياقة البدنية يقع في نهاية الممر ،حيث يمتلك الكثير من معدات التيكنوجيم ،وهو مفتوح طوال الوقت لجميع الضيوف ،وهناك أيضًا شرفة كبيرة للمشي أو للراحة بعد التريض وبالطبع تطل الشرفة على منظر خالب للشاطئ. ومن أفضل األقسام الموجودة في مراسي البحرين هو عالم خاص لألطفال مليء باأللعاب المخصصة لألطفال كالمطابخ المصغرة ومخازن ،وأعاب خفيفة مخصصة لألطفال ومكتبات ضخمة تالئم تفاوت االعمار .ومسرحيات تعليمية مرحة يقدمها طاقم كامل مؤهل للتعامل مع األطفال ،وهذا القسم ليس فقط لألطفال ،بل يناسب المراهقين أيضًا لوجود قاعة ذات شاشة كبيرة أللعاب PS5ليتمكن المراهق,ن من التمتع باأللعاب على النت ،وهناك ملعب بيانو باألقدام أيضا .كان ال بد لي أن أجربها. تتميز الشرفة الخارجية بأرضية مبطنه بالكامل ما يجعله آمن تمامًا ،لمتعة آمنة في الهواء الطلق ،وتتضمن مضمار حواجز، وجدار تسلق ضخم ما يجعله مغريًا جدًا. يحرص ألفي ،المسؤول عن قسم األطفال ،على أن تكون األنشطة الموجودة تربوية وتعليمية مليئة بالمرح والتنوع، وهذا ما يجعل اآلباء مرتاحين ومطمئنين بشكل كبير على أبنائهم بينما يتمتعون هم باستكشاف باقي المرافق.

بعد الظهيرة قرابة نهاية اليوم عدت الى جناحي الخاص قبل العشاء ،لالستمتاع بشرب مشروبي الغازي وقراءة كتاب في الشرفة في انتظار غروب الشمس ،كان يومًا مليئًا 105

and surrounding landscaped gardens. I begin to feel like I’m truly on holiday. My suite offers a dining and living area with fullsized table and chairs as well as a deep-cushioned sofa and armchairs. There’s also a kitchen, with hob and fridge, and a guest washroom. Leading from the bedroom is a large bathroom boasting a range of Brown Alchemist amenities, with just about everything thought of on a tray of travel extras, such as cotton buds and toothbrushes. There’s a separate shower and huge tub, which looks out over that fabulous view. The bed, oh the bed! Big, deep, soft and comfortable with plenty of plump pillows and, again, looking out to the balcony and beyond.
SPOILT FOR CHOICE
I am honestly torn between drawing a bath and just surrendering to the call of the bed. But first, I must explore, since that’s what I’m here for. I head to the beach and am delighted at the feel of warm sand between my toes, this could become quite addictive. On one side, Vida’s beach joins with the neighbouring public area, while, on the other, it is linked to the beach of the upcoming Marassi Galleria Mall, which is also connected to The Address Beach Resort Bahrain, due to open later this year. Altogether there is 2km of glistening sand and welcoming

water and I have to resist the temptation to jump right in. Heading through the lobby, we pass Origins, the all-day-dining restaurant, where the seriously popular Vida Friday Brunch is staged, and head up to the second floor to sample some other impressive features. First there’s the temperature-controlled infinity pool. A gorgeous, chilled area which looks like a Hockney-esque daydream, all white loungers, sun-dappled blue water and, of course, a convenient bar, for cooling drinks. The fitness centre is just down the corridor boasting plenty of Technogym equipment and available to guests 24 hours a day. There’s also a large terrace where you can do floor exercises or just cool down from your workout while enjoying, once more, the wonderful sea view. And then, probably the most fun feature of the whole hotel, Qix Kids Club. Inside it’s like a kiddie wonderland. There’re toy cooking stations, tee pees, loads of soft toys and books galore. There are daily play and learning sessions all overseen by capable staff – though it’s encouraged that little ones are accompanied. There’s also a games room featuring PlayStation 5 with a large screen, where bigger kids can indulge in online gaming, and this area boasts a foot-played floor piano mat that I can’t resist trying. The outdoor terrace, with its fully-padded flooring, offers a safe, fresh-air play space with an obstacle course, including a sizeable climbing frame – that I find seriously tempting. Kids Club staffer, Alfie, explains that all the games and activities are designed to be both fun and educational, so parents can feel comfortable leaving their precious little ones to have a great time while they make the most of Vida’s other facilities.
EVENING CALLS
As the afternoon draws to a close, I head back to my room to make the most of the balcony before dinner, enjoying a sparkling drink with my book as the sun goes down. It’s been a busy day of both work and exploring and I am more than happy to just relax and take in my surroundings. Later, I head downstairs to Origins and enjoy a simple meal of beautifully cooked lamb cutlets with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The meat is tender, pink and more than plentiful, the veggies crisp and satisfying. I consider trying The Bistro by Origins for dessert having heard of the new menu, which boasts dishes such as Beetroot and Blackberry Salad, Tarte Fine Aux Pommes and Pineapple Carpaccio. I am tempted to linger… but my bed is calling. After a quick shower and a longed-for cuppa on the balcony, watching the twinkling lights of Amwaj in the distance and the occasional seagoing vessel on the water, I finally get to sample that oh-so-tempting-bed. No TV for me, it’s lights out straight away and between those distant lights and the whisper of waves breaking gently on the shore below, I’m asleep in minutes.
BRIGHT BEGINNINGS
The next morning, I am treated to an extensive breakfast from in-room dining, which arrives tiffin-style so everything is piping hot and fresh. I immediately tuck into smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, their colours as bright as the new day. The hash browns offer a satisfying crunch and there is a plate of bacon and sausage 106

too. A dish of freshly sliced fruits acts as a tasty palate cleanser before I indulge in a pastry basket containing Danish, croissants and more with creamy butter from the individual butter bell. learnt about both Vikings and Ancient Egyptians at school, but my history teacher unfortunately never indulged us with even a morsel of Indian history. Luckily for me, to dine at Riyasat, the beautiful eatery in Al Gassar Resort, The St. Regis Doha, is to slip back to the time of ‘The Raj’ and experience the culmination of centuries of cross-pollinated Indian culinary artistry. From the Mughals to the British and the Portuguese traders who introduced chilli to India 600 years ago, Indian cuisine has been influenced by other cultures just as it has shaped food across the world today. Riyasat’s guests brush shoulders with culinary traditions practised by Indian royal families over the centuries-long history, with a phenomenal menu curated by Indian celebrity chef, Chef Jolly. History lessons never tasted this good. Entering the impressive restaurant involves a little time travel. Golden hues mix with a dark pink colour scheme. Crimson velvet sofas and a dark red floor sit alongside playful, coloured tiling under circular tables. Soft, upbeat electronic music adds a modern edge. We’re greeted warmly by Shailender, the restaurant manager, and led to our table. Facing a vast glass partition illuminating the view onto the kitchen behind, I’m transfixed by the huge beehive tandoor ovens lined up by the window. I’m told they’re made from honey-infused clay, designed to add a subtle smoky layer to the food cooked within. I can’t wait to verify that morsel of information. While I’m distracted, an amuse-bouche appears on our table. Crisp Rajasthan-style poppadoms are accompanied by a selection of dipping delights, including tamarind and date chutney with the extra sweetness of jaggery and creamy yoghurt with sesame. Meanwhile, the bartender has prepared us some thirst-quenching passionfruit mocktails from the wonderful selection of ingredients he has on display in the drinks trolley. Within seconds, Riyasat’s Executive Chef, Grenal Godinho, stops at our table to deliver a plate of Pani Poori to tantalise our taste buds and tell us about the Indian wizardry to come. We’re treated to a feast of starters, commencing with a Goan street food classic: garlic and ginger marinated prawns with a light coat of crumbly semolina batter. Perfectly fried and not oily. Alongside the prawns comes homemade cottage cheese (paneer), mixed with the choice duo of coriander and chilli, and a generous dollop of fresh lime yoghurt. We dive into some Makhan Chooza chicken from Amritsar, bathed in yoghurt and green cardamom and carrying the delicate taste of royal cumin, the milder cousin to Cuminum Cyminum. Our attention turns to the beautifully presented broccoli florets cooked with fennel and mustard. These miniature blooms are soft, creamy and infused with myriad flavours. One melts in my mouth with a satisfying chargrilled aftertaste. To wrap up the first course, the waiter delivers another prawn dish – ‘elevated’ king prawns marinated in Kashmiri chilli powder with a touch of creamed cheese, ginger and garlic. Hadag Magazine

After polishing off our delicious decapods, the ever-attentive Executive Chef swoops in to explain the main course, starting with the biryani. Originally brought to India from Persia, the biryani certainly found its home in South Asia. It’s not a dish, he explains; it’s an emotion. And our emotions have been individually slow-cooked on low heat with a dough seal, the stretchy pastry broken to reveal the steaming fresh rice underneath. Accompanying the biryani is Riyasat’s very own take on butter chicken, banana-leaf wrapped sea bass, and Shabdegh Daal – lentils simmered overnight with an obscene amount of butter and cream. Naughty, rich, and absolutely !glorious Quite taken by the Daal, I notice my guest battling the banana leaves cocooning her baked sea bass. Our waiter swiftly intercepts with an engaging smile and a polite help offer, avoiding any fishy embarrassment. The service is exceptional here, but at this, I doff my cap. Every staff member we meet with is attentive and knowledgeable, positive and efficient. Fit to bursting with royal delicacies, we round off our evening with a pot of sweet milk tea infused with saffron and ginger, stunningly presented in a beautiful pot. Then a handmade Kulfi – the very best of Indian ice cream. Ancient traditions of Indian royalty come alive at Riyasat as a feast fit for kings and queens.
