March was a busy month for the Hanover Chamber staff! The Chamber and Main Street Hanover organized a meet and greet event for Hanover Borough Manager Margie Lewis. Lewis was hired as manager in December, and is getting to know business leaders in the community. Approximately 50 people attended the meet and greet. Thank you to the YWCA Hanover for hosting!

Chamber staff met with local employers over a series of several meetings to discuss training and apprenticeship opportunities. Leadership Hanover 2022-2023 concluded in early March with education day at Conewago Valley High School followed by lunch at Bay City. Thank you to the panelists and hosts that contributed to the class experience this year. Applications for the 2023 – 2024 class will be available in May.

In mid-March, Chamber staff accompanied Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill on a tour of Hanover High School. The Senator toured the school, spoke with students and got an overview of the educational and training offerings available to students.

Lastly, Chamber staff and the Board of Directors have been busy working on the Chamber’s strategic plan for 2023 - 2025. The Chamber’s goals and priorities are being developed based on feedback received from member visits and a member survey that was conducted in January. We greatly appreciate the member and community input received as we plan for the future. The plan will be finalized in April and available to members in early May.

Leadership Hanover graduated its eleventh class on March 3, 2023. Thirty participants met once a month for six months beginning in October 2022. The program focuses on key components of the community, including: education, economic development, health and wellness, local and state government, and quality of life.

The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce believes today, more than ever, that our future is tied to strong leadership. The more informed and involved the citizens of a community become, the stronger the community. The program helps to identify modern issues and provides individuals with a deeper understanding of the workings of the local, regional, and state systems that contribute

the quality of place and quality of life where participants live and work.

The 2023-24 session will begin in October; applications will be available in May and must be submitted by August 1, 2023. If you have questions or would like more informaiton about the program, please reach out to Elizabeth Csuri at ecsuri@hanoverchamber.com.

Many thanks to our sponsors, The Markets at Hanover and Penn National Insurance, for their support of this program and future leaders of the greater Hanover area.

VNA OF HANOVER & SPRING GROVE HOSPICE EARNS 5-STAR QUALITY RATING

Hanover, Pa. (Mar. 16, 2023) - The Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover & Spring Grove Hospice program is pleased to have earned a 5-star rating in patient experience by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The rating is based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ CAHPS Survey (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems) results.

Out of the 16 Hospice providers in our service area, the VNA is the only 5-star rated agency. “What better way to exemplify the VNA’s mission to “Deliver exceptional healthcare in the home” than to be the only regional Hospice agency to achieve CMS’s highest 5-star quality ranking?” Said Kevin Maloney, President & CEO of the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove. “I am so grateful for our gifted Hospice team who deliver exceptional, quality care every day to our community”.

The CAHPS Hospice Survey focuses on a variety of categories, including communication with family, receiving timely care, treating patients with respect, providing emotional and spiritual support, managing pain and symptoms, and willingness to recommend the hospice provider. Care Compare on Medicare.gov is the official CMS website for publicly reporting quality measures for care provided by hospice and other health care providers. This site was created to help consumers select the best hospice care by comparing hospice providers’ performance. The VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove has been providing local, quality, and compassionate hospice care since 1980.
