Leadership Hanover to Begin Fall 2016 by Natalie Neal The 2015-2016 Leadership Hanover session comes to a close this month with another program set to begin October 2016. The current class will make a visit to the PA State Capitol for their final session, to visit with legislators and discuss local issues on a state level. Meeting one day a month for six months, Leadership Hanover is a unique program focused on discovering and developing the leader within each participant. The program is designed to make future leaders more successful by better knowing the Hanover area, networking with key business owners, and establishing relationships with other participants. “Leadership is about knowing the people that follow you, and being conscious of the people and places that made them who they are today.

On a local level, leadership means understanding the culture that makes Hanover so special,” said Kenny Watson, Vice President at M&T Bank and current Leadership Hanover participant. Leadership continued from front page The sentiment holds true for Mindy Becker, Communications and Gift officer at The Brethren Home Foundation, 2015-16 leadership program participant. “My favorite memories will be the time I’ve spent with my classmates in this program. We are all from different industries and Mindy Becker, The Brethren organizations, Home Foundation and it’s great learning from each other and about our community together. Leadership Hanover has helped me understand some of the work that is done ‘behind the scenes’, and I have a greater appreciation for the groups and organizations who help make sure things run efficiently and effectively for the community,” said Becker. Leadership Hanover qualifies for three Continuing Education Units through HACC- Gettysburg Campus. A CEU is 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible, capable direction and qualified instruction. Tuition for the program is $1,200, and covers all training materials, transportation, lunch and five full-day sessions. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for any business wishing to gain recognition through the program while maintaining a seat in the current session.

Chamber & YCP Offer Scholarship

by Natalie Neal The Hanover Chamber, in partnership with York College of Pennsylvania, will award two three-credit scholarships for the Fall 2016 term at the York campus. York College makes these scholarships available through the Chamber twice a year to be awarded to individuals whose continued education promises to serve their own intellectual growth and professional development as well as their ability to contribute to the Hanover community. Scholarships will cover the tuition of any one, 3-credit course offered during the Fall 2016 day or evening session. The recipient must pay the registration fees and the cost of textbooks. One scholarship will be awarded to each of two part-time students during the Fall and Spring semester. All Hanover area residents are eligible to apply if (1) they are currently enrolled as a high school senior or (2) have a high school diploma, (3) do not already have a four-year college degree and (4) meet the current York College registration policy criteria for parttime matriculated or non-matriculated student. Former recipients are encouraged to apply. Applications can be obtained at the Hanover Chamber office and online at hanoverchamber.com/scholarships. Chamber Blog: Facebook for Business

If you aren’t using Facebook for your small business, you should be.

As of February 2016, there are over 1.5 BILLION Facebook users (that number is quickly growing), and active users spend between 20-40 minutes on Facebook per day. That’s a lot of potential customers! If you think of Facebook as your digital storefront, imagine how many times per day they could ‘pass’ your storefront on Facebook. So, why should you be on Facebook? 1. Facebook makes your business discoverable. When people search for your business, can they find you? Do a quick web search of your business name. Hopefully, you’ll get a few direct hits. If you have a webpage, you’ll likely see that show up. If you have a Facebook page, that will show up as well. As creating and maintaining a website can be costly, Facebook offers a free option for small business owners to be discovered on the web. 2. Facebook makes your business connected. Social media is just that...social. Through your Facebook page, you can interact with your customers and have one-on-one conversations. Your clients can follow your page, read your posts and share them with friends. They can ‘check-in’ when they shop, dine or visit, sharing with the world that they are at YOUR place of business. 3. Facebook makes your business timely. We are living in the era of now; we want our news, entertainment, and everything else now! Your Facebook page helps you to reach large groups of people frequently, and with messages tailored to their needs and interests. Having a sale? Just received a shipment of new product? Chef special tonight? Share the news instantly, and invite your fans to spread the word! 4. Facebook makes your business insightful. Would you benefit from carefully collected information on your customer base? Facebook does the dirty work for you and provides user analytics, giving you a deeper understanding of your customers and the effectiveness of your marketing activities. Remember, your Facebook page is an extension of your business. It’s an easy way to share updates and more with the people who matter most, and will help you engage your customers on a regular basis.

Business Briefs MOWRER PROMOTED TO BRANCH MANAGER

Members 1st Federal Credit Union has announced that Michelle Mowrer of Hanover has been promoted to Branch Manager for the Credit Union’s North Hanover location at 1221Carlisle Street. Mowrer started her career with Members 1st in 2009 and most recently has served as an assistant branch manager with the Credit Union. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Hanover Area Young Professionals.

FEUCHTENBERGER, HAYES JOIN ACNB BANK

Charlene L. Feuchtenberger has joined ACNB Bank in the position of Vice President & Trust Operations Manager. In this role, Feuchtenberger manages all Trust & Investment Services operations for ACNB Bank as well as the related operations staff. She is based at the Bank’s Trust & Investment Services office located on Lincoln Square in Gettysburg. Feuchtenberger has 26 years of banking experience, all within the trust and investment services areas of local banks. Kevin J. Hayes has joined ACNB Bank in the position of Vice President & General Counsel. In this role, Hayes is responsible for providing legal counsel and representation to ACNB Bank on general corporate, real estate, commercial law, trust, and regulatory issues. He is based at the Bank’s Operations Center in Gettysburg. Prior to joining ACNB Bank, Hayes represented a number of financial institutions during his tenure at Mette, Evans & Woodside in Harrisburg, for which he served as Associate Attorney since August 2012.

TrueNorth Wellness Services is pleased to announce two hires within its marketing department: Melissa Speal as Director of Marketing and Communications, and Larissa Jacobsen as Regional Marketing Manager for Franklin and Fulton counties. As the Director of Marketing and Communications, Speal will guide marketing strategy, lead the organization’s endowment and fundraising strategy, and oversee internal and external communications tactics and marketing content across platforms. With 15-plus years of experience in marketing, integrated media and public relations, Speal will provide strategic marketing leadership to advance the organization as a leader in behavioral health and wellness services. Her experience includes a 12-year role as the marketing and public relations director for the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, as well as roles with Preferred Health Staff and CAM Innovation. She currently serves as the Board Director at the American Heart Association and of YWCA Hanover. Jacobsen, who has been with TrueNorth Wellness Services since 2010 as a peer support supervisor based in Franklin and Fulton counties, brings experience in management, marketing and networking of Mental Health First Aid trainings and Safe Crisis Management. As Regional Marketing Manager for Franklin/Fulton counties, Jacobsen will oversee marketing events and outreach in the region. Jacobsen will also serve as the Peer Support Supervisor for Franklin and Fulton counties. House the Homeless Marathon a Success

The 15th annual Hanover Cares: House the Homeless Marathon, held Feb. 11 and 12 on WHVR 1280 AM, raised more than $6,000 to benefit the area’s homeless population. The pledges of money will be used to support the Hanover Area Council of Churches’ Changing Lives Homeless Shelter, as well as the homeless programs provided by Turning Point. Local entertainers, clergy and other guests donated their time and talents during the 18-hour broadcast to share information about the shelter, discuss programs for the area’s homeless and solicit donations. The Changing Lives Homeless Shelter opened June 21, 2007, as a year-round facility to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of the area’s homeless.

ACNB Bank Supports Habitat for Humanity Adams County Habitat for Humanity recently received a $2,500 contribution from ACNB Bank. ACNB Bank’s contribution was acknowledged with a check presentation.

This community organization builds and renovates homes for families in need, as well as provides financial education. The Hanover Geo Trail

Geocaching, the international treasure-hunting game, can be done right here in Hanover! Now we are excited to bring you our 2nd trail this Spring! Main Street Hanover has plotted its very own treasure map, known as the Hanover GeoTrail. The trail includes over 20 different cache locations throughout the downtown and greater Hanover area. Our new trail after its launch, will have new caches to offer people in a variety of fun new places! What is GeoCaching? Modern adventurers can use their GPS devices to navigate the path to elusive ‘caches’, which are hidden containers holding a logbook for the hunters to sign. GeoCaches are hidden in landmarks, public parks, and even parking lots and businesses. All geocaches are officially registered with www. geocaching.com. Participants will need to register on the website to retrieve coordinates and other location information. Registration on geocaching.com is free. A GeoCache app can be downloaded on smart phones, enabling the cacher to navigate to caches, and find additional caches nearby. Before setting out to find the caches, you will need an official passport booklet. Passports are free and can be downloaded from the Hanover Chamber’s website, or by visiting the Hanover Chamber/Main Street Hanover office. Each cache will contain a unique code to be used in your passport as proof of finding the cache. Cachers who complete 85% of the trail or more will receive a commemorative coin, made specifically for the geo trail, which features the Main Street Hanover logo. There is no set deadline for completion, and participants may collect their coin until the supply runs out. (Current coin count available: less than 20.) Where can I find the caches? To find Hanover, PA Geo Trail caches: Geocache4 1. Log on to www.geocaching.com (create a profile, if needed) 2. Click on the ‘Play’ drop down menu to locate the “Hide & Seek a Cache” link 3. Under “Seek a Cache…”, scroll down to “Other Search Options” 4. Under “Cache Name”, type “HGT -” (there must be a space between the T and the -) Please visit the official GeoCaching website for more information.
