The Chamber Bids A Fond Farewell To Our Marketing Coordinator, Lola Garman

This month, we will bid a fond farewell to our intern turned part-time Marketing Coordinator, Lola Garman, as she begins her freshman year of undergraduate school at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida! Lola started at the Chamber in May 2021 as a rising highschool senior. She was recommended to us by David Harnish, Career Counselor of the Hanover High School due to her excellent academic standing, involvement in extracurricular activities, and overall drive to succeed.

Though Lola is a highschool student, her performance in her role as intern and then Marketing Coordinator have exceeded expectations. Since the start of her time with the Chamber, she has become heavily involved with a variety of chamber initiatives. She has aided in the development

of Youth Leadership (a branch of Leadership Hanover that focuses on students) and has also worked extensively on the Chamber’s workforce development program, including new webpages on the chamber website, researching resources for employers and educators, and developing a system for capturing the needs of local businesses.

Director of Operations, Sarah Messer, had the following to say about Lola's time at the Chamber: “Lola will be greatly missed by the Chamber staff! Lola juggled multiple leadership roles at school, on sports teams, and in the office with grace and perseverance. Her commitment to bettering the community and engaging high school students has been an inspiration over the last year and will make a lasting impact on the area. We are so proud of everything that Lola has achieved and know she will continue to accomplish great things.”

All of us at the Chamber wish Lola the best in her educational and career endeavors!

On August 9th we will be celebrating with a special 50 year anniversary celebration at the dealership. We want to thank everyone in the community for their support over the years and we look forward to serving you for 50 more.

feel like they are her only client - she is inclusive and kind and so very competent in meeting them where they are. She sees value in everyone she serves, and she wants and encourages each client to live their best life.”

In addition to the overall statewide award, PHA and the Department of Aging also recognized three regional winners.

HANOVER, Pa. - This August Gene Latta Ford will be celebrating 50 years of business. Gene came to Hanover in August of 1973 to what was then known as Valley Motors Ford. He bought in to the business from Mr. Ken Myers, a well-respected businessman in the Hanover Community, and operated the business until the buyout was completed in 1981; it was at that time the name was changed to Gene Latta Ford.

From 1973 until 1994 Gene Latta Ford operated out of the facility on Dart Drive for sales, service, parts and body shop. In Sept of 1994, the sales operation was relocated to our current Carlisle Pike location. Shortly thereafter, our Service and parts business moved out to join the sales center in May of 1999.

In January of 2004, Gene retired from the daily operations of Gene Latta Ford and his son, Steve, who has been with the company since he was 14 years old, took over as President. Steve along with his excellent staff including General Manager Shawn Groft have continued to grow the dealership as well as become a major supporter of many community organizations and events in the greater Hanover and Gettysburg area. Our motto Customers Come First at Gene Latta Ford has become our

PENNSYLVANIA DIRECT CARE WORKERS RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE, EXCEPTIONAL CARE

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Today, the Pennsylvania Homecare Association (PHA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Aging announced the recipients of the 2023 Direct Care Worker of the Year Awards. This year, 150 direct care workers from across the Commonwealth were nominated for their outstanding service and exceptional care.

Priscilla “Penny” Carter-Smith, Superior Home Care, was recognized as this year’s overall statewide winner and recipient of the “Vicki Hoak Direct Care Worker of the Year” award.

Kimberly Pirilla-Scalise, Executive Director at Superior Home Care, nominated Penny for her dedicated service and kind spirit.

“She has never been matched with a client that she didn't stay with and lovingly care for until the client either passed or no longer needed care. This is so remarkable because of the diversity across Penny's clients - no one client is like the other,” says Pirilla-Scalise. “She cares for bedridden veterans, developmentally delayed young adults, and seniors who mostly need homemaking and companionship. She makes each one

Betty Field, Diversified Human Services d/b/a SPHS Aging Services, Washington County; Alease Hall, Associates Home Care, Bucks County; and Marsha Spangler, VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove, Adams County were recognized as this year’s regional winners.

For nearly two decades, PHA has used this awards program to recognize excellence in homebased care and raise awareness for the invaluable roles that direct care workers play in their communities.

“Without this workforce, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians wouldn’t be able to maintain their independence at home,” says CJ Rambler, President of the Pennsylvania Homecare Association. “This program is just one way to recognize the invaluable role they play in our homes and communities.
