UNIQUE EATS

Situated just west of Pennsylvania Dutch Country and less than an hour from the Chesapeake Bay, Hanover’s taste buds cover a little of everything. From chicken and waffles, to hot dogs with “everything” and Maryland blue crabs, you’re sure to find a unique dish in Hanover!

Bay City Restaurant Established in 1963, Bay City Restaurant was the first seafood restaurant in Hanover. Owner William “Ted” Smith began his business by hauling fresh seafood over the Mason-Dixon line in the back of his VW Bug, seats removed to accommodate a dozen bushels of crabs. In 1991, the current location on Eisenhower Drive was constructed, offering patrons a choice of formal dining room, outside deck, banquet room, and even a carry-out seafood shop. The lounge features weekly entertainment, and the outside deck is a popular hangout in the summer months. Bay City’s menu features a plethora of options from the sea, with appetizers including steamed clams, Chesapeake Bay oysters, and U-Peel Shrimp prepared with Bay City’s secret recipe. On the dinner menu, Atlantic Salmon Monte Carlo, Bay City Stir Fry, and a variety of crab cakes steal the show. Warehouse Gourmet What started as a catering company has blossomed into a popular local bistro and brewpub. Although catering is still a key component of their business, Warehouse owners Keith and Melinda Stambaugh have continued to expand their restaurant’s offerings over the years. Located on Pennsylvania Avenue, upscale flavor, a casual atmosphere and hand-crafted beer continue to drive the success of the restaurant. With offerings such as artisan sandwiches, seafood platters, meat dishes, craft beer and a new bistro lounge, Warehouse Gourmet is a delicious, affordable option that is perfect for lunch or a night out. DINING

The Famous Hot Weiner At “The Famous”, as it’s called by locals, you can still grab a dog with “everything”, fries and a milkshake for under $10. By everything, we mean the famous chili sauce and chopped onions; a winning combination for almost a century! The Hanover staple opened its doors in 1923, becoming the area’s first fast-food restaurant. The Famous Hot Weiner is still situated at the corner of York Street and Broadway, in addition to its second location on Dart Drive. Dutch Country Restaurant To truly get back to Hanover’s roots, make a stop at Dutch Country Restaurant on Baltimore Street. Famous Pennsylvania Dutch recipes have contributed to decades of success, and the menu encompasses local specialties like chicken and waffles, hominy and puddin’, beef with homemade filling and chipped beef gravy. The Hofbrauhaus The Hofbrauhaus is known for hearty, full meals and classic German atmosphere. Located at the Abbottstown circle just a few miles north of Hanover, the Hofbrauhaus is worth the stop. Owned by Butch and Chris Duncan, the Hofbrauhaus first opened its doors in 1958 and has been serving authentic German food ever since. The Hofbrauhaus will be sure to serve you the Dutch in Pennsylvania Dutch. La Cucina If you’re craving an authentic Italian meal, look no further than La Cucina in South Hanover. Owner Armando Malvone first opened La Cucina to honor his heritage and to satisfy his passion for delicious food. La Cucina’s menu includes classic Italian appetizers such as bruschetta and antipasta rustica, soups, salads, pasta including penne vodka and fettucine alfredo, seafood and gourmet oven pizza. The restaurant also offers catering. Big Mike’s Crabhouse and Grill On the deck or inside at a table, Big Mike’s Crabhouse and Grill serves up perfectly seasoned and prepared shrimp, crabs and seafood year-round. Although it’s a relatively new kid on the block, the BYOB, family-friendly eatery has become popular for its fresh food, high quality service and crabhouse appeal. Deck dining is available in the summer and fall (weather dependent), and customers rave about surf and turf burgers, appetizing shrimp and tasty soups. Crabs are steamed and seasoned Maryland-style with plenty of Old Bay. Broasted chicken is another fan-favorite and hits the spot for those that aren’t into seafood. Just a short walk from downtown Hanover, a meal on the deck at Big Mike’s will remind you of a dock on the bay.

SIPS OF ADAMS COUNTY

Adams County Winery, located eight miles outside of Gettysburg, is a staple in the local community. Currently owned by Katherine Bigler and John Kramb, the farm itself dates back to the 19th century.

Adams County Winery creates all of its wine on-site. Visitors have the opportunity to go on a behind-the-scenes tour and see how the wine is made. Afterwards, they will enjoy a private tasting of the winery’s offerings. All tours are by reservation, so it is highly recommended to call ahead and reserve a time, especially during the summer months. Unable to make it to the farm site? Adams County Winery also has locations in downtown Gettysburg and at the Markets at Hanover. Both locations are wine shops, so you can find all of the winery’s products there, including its new and seasonal releases. A berry-infused Catawba was featured as the 2017 spring offering. “It is really light, crisp, fruity and blush-looking for the spring. It is one of our short runs,” Roth said.

Although wine is the most important part of the business, Adams County Winery offers much more than grapes. With activities ranging from tours to concerts to an on-site restaurant, the winery has served as a popular destination for locals and out-of-town visitors for over 40 years.

Seasonal flavors are limited and once they’re gone, they’re gone! In the past, the winery has created seasonal flavors such as pumpkin and sweet cranberry cabernet. Each year, the staff creates a new and unique flavor for fans to enjoy. Along with rotating seasonal flavors, the winery typically keeps about 20 other wines in rotation, including popular flavors such as Tears of Gettysburg and Rebel Red.

An outdoor bistro is the most recent addition to the winery. Since debuting in 2016, the Terrace Bistro serves as the focal point of the Farm Winery during the summer. The bistro is open April through September annually.

At the end of the day, Adams County Winery is much more than just wine, it is an experience.

In its first year, the bistro served homemade pizzas out of the classic Italian brick oven. Now, the bistro boasts an expanded menu featuring appetizers and more varieties of pizza. Some of the pizza toppings are even grown directly on the farm. “It’s really fun to be able to go out to the farm and get the tomatoes and basil we are using on our Margherita pizza and to be able to say [the toppings] were literally hand-picked this morning,” said Melissa Roth, the winery’s public relations director. “This gives us this neat farm to table experience. You can see the farm [from the bistro]. That’s as fresh as it gets.”

“We want to help create an experience people can remember, bring their friends to and e n j o y,” Roth said.

After enjoying a meal at the Terrace Bistro, visitors may want to look into the winery’s winemaking classes and tours. In the past, Adams County Winery has offered home wine making classes. Participants purchase a starter kit and learn the steps to making wine. After taking the kit home, participants may return for an advanced winemaking session where staff members can answer questions and help troubleshoot. Photos courtesy of Adams County Winery

CRAFT OF THE BREW

Aldus Brewing Co. Just a mile from downtown, a former factory building has found new life as a brewery. The owners of Aldus Brewing Co. have set their sights on creating craft beer that is easy to drink. Their trio of “accessible brews” includes American Blonde Ale, Olde Factory Amber IPA and Wee Dame, a Scottish Wee-Heavy. All three are available in growlers and kegs, as well as on tap in the brewpub where they are served alongside Pennsylvaniaproduced wines and tasty fare. Keep an eye out for bottles, rolling out soon!

Hanover has quickly become a sipping destination for craft beer enthusiasts. From the Leggy Blonde at Warehouse Gourmet Bistro & Brewpub to the Spweach Impwediment at Miscreation Brewing Company, there’s a sip for everyone in Hanover. Taste your way through local favorites of hop variety.

Miscreation Brewing Company The Spweach Impwediment, a wheat beer with a slight hint of peach, is a lighter choice and probably a safe bet for newbies to the craft beer scene. Frank’n Stout, literally a miscreation according to co-owner Mark Mathias, is a unique offering that pairs the flavor of jalapeno with coffee notes that leaves fans coming back for more. Find them on the square, and ask about a to-go cup to accompany your walk through downtown!

Center Square Brewing Striving to incorporate fresh and local ingredients, Center Square Brewing creates one-of-a-kind beers with a local flair. Located in the Altland House in Abbottstown, the in-house brewery features hand-made craft beer brewed in the 3-barrel brew house. Four rotating beers are on tap, with season specialties available as well. Try the Alt, a traditional German Altbier made of five different malts, Hallertau and Pearle hops, Something Wicked Brewing Company Their four flagship beers cover a broad spectrum of styles, sure to and Dusseldorf Alt yeast. tempt and tease your pallet. Sinful, Virtue, Charity and Chaos are always on tap, but don’t forget to try a brew from their rotating taps and pair it with a Revonah pretzel log. From IPA to stout and more, something wicked is always brewing at Something Wicked! Located in the former Moose building on Broadway, you’ll find the hidden entrance to Something Wicked in the alley behind the building. Warehouse Gourmet Bistro & Brewpub Warehouse Gourmet was the first on the Hanover brewing scene, expanding their sit-down bistro to add a brew pub in 2012. Customers will find a well-balanced variety of beers to compliment Warehouse’s legendary fare, from pale ales to porter to stout. Leggy Blonde and Small Town Brown are Hanover favorites, and customers often stop by to fill up a growler for home consumption. Looking for more? Sip, savor and explore to your heart’s content on the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail. Sponsored by the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the trail includes 20 familyowned locations in southern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland making tantalizing wines and refreshing ciders. For a free brochure and tour information, visit www.masondixonwinetrail.com. THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Adventure Awaits at Codorus State Park

If you are looking for excitement or just to kick back and relax, Codorus State Park is the place for you. Located about three miles southeast of Hanover, the park features 3,452 acres of forests, fields, wetlands and Lake Marburg, a manmade lake. The Susquehannock Indians were the first to call the area home before German farmers began to settle in the Codorus region in the 1700s. In 1762, they built the Mary Ann Furnace, believed to be the first charcoal furnace west of the Susquehanna River. Although nothing remains of the furnace today, it once produced cannon balls and grapeshot for the Continental Army. In 1966, the Glatfelter paper company of Spring Grove impounded the Codorus Creek in order to supply water to the business, which led to the creation of Lake Marburg. Around the same time, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania acquired the land for the park.

Make a Splash Codorus offers a variety of water-based activities including swimming, scuba diving and boating. While swimming in the lake is prohibited, the park’s public swimming pool is a popular destination. Lake Marburg features seven boat launches, all of which are open to the public. The park also offers boat rentals. Fun on Dry Land If you prefer to stay on dry land, Codorus State Park has picnicking, hiking, disc golf and camping. With 19 miles of trails, Codorus is a popular destination for locals and visitors from out of town. The park’s disc golf course is one of the most challenging in Pennsylvania, featuring 54 holes throughout the forest and fields. If you choose to stay overnight at the park, the campground is open from April through September. Sporting With 1,275 acres of lake filled with yellow perch, bluegill and catfish, fishing at Codorus is a real adventure. In addition to fishing, over 2,000 acres of the park are available for hunting, trapping and training dogs during the appropriate season. The park’s most popular game include deer, pheasants, rabbits and waterfowl. Cold Weather Entertainment Visiting Codorus is not just a warm weather trip. The park offers 6.5 miles of trails for skiing and snowmobiles as well as multiple slopes for sledding. When Lake Marburg freezes over, ice skating, ice fishing and iceboating are also popular activities. Programs and Events The park provides environmental programs from May to October, including ecological and historical walks and school environmental educational activities. An annual festival, Codorus Blast, is also held in the park, which features horse, boat and helicopter rides, balloon launches, food and craft vendors, and a dock dog competition. Whether you are visiting from far away or simply spending a day by the lake, adventure awaits you at Codorus State Park.

Breeding the Best at Hanover Shoe Farms

Just a short drive down Route 194 sits a horse farm that is known worldwide. The Hanover Shoe Farms have held a top spot in the world of Standardbred horse breeding for over 80 years, and continues to produce world champion race horses today. In 1922, Lawrence B. Sheppard transformed the 69-horse Hanover Shoe Stables, formerly owned by his father Harper D. Sheppard and Clinton N. Myers, into the largest combined breeding and racing establishment in the world. Holding on to the farm’s success through the Great Depression and WWII, Sheppard went on to hire John Simpson as manager of Hanover’s racing and breeding interests. In the years that followed, Hanover Shoe Farms produced one great horse after another, and is home to some of the greatest Standardbreds in the world, including the 2008 horse of the year, Somebeachsomewhere. The Hanover Shoe Farms are open to the public year-round with guided tours available through the four barns and along the surrounding fields. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to visit, and March through May are ideal months for a close up view of mares and foals. Walking through the stables, visitors are likely to see a newborn foal anywhere from a minute to a week old. The farm is open for self-guided tours seven days a week during daylight hours, with employees on-hand to answer questions between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A Cache of Fun

Spend some time in Hanover, and you’re likely to pick up on a trend called GeoCaching. GeoCaching is described as a real-life treasure hunt, one for the 21st century. Cachers, the term for participants, use their phone or a GPS device to find caches (the ‘treasure’), hidden using GPS coordinates. It may sound a bit far-fetched, however geocaching has become a craze since its beginning in 2000. The Hanover Geo Trail focuses on downtown Hanover, but also stretches to West Manheim Park and Codorus State Park. With over 20 caches on the Hanover trail, cachers are sure to find their way around Hanover, discovering exciting locations along the way. Just keep an eye out for “muggles” or non-cachers! Some of the caches on the trail lead cachers to another cache; these are called multi-caches. There are also three mystery caches where the cacher has to solve a puzzle in order to claim the cache. When participants find 18 caches on the trail and complete their passport (available at the Hanover Chamber office), they are eligible to receive a commemorative coin from the Main Street Hanover organization. The trail was established in Hanover to help bring awareness to the Main Street Hanover initiative and to promote businesses in the Hanover area.

Geocaching has brought in over 200 visitors to Hanover since 2014, and continues to increase in popularity. To join the geocaching fun, download the app on your smartphone or visit www.geocaching.com/ play. Official passports are available at the Hanover Chamber Office at 146 Carlisle Street, or at hanoverchamber.com.

Conewago Chapel

The original Conewago Chapel was built by Jesuits in 1741 as a log dwelling and chapel. Even after the original chapel was demolished, the name remained. The present-day chapel is constructed out of locally quarried brownstone. Dedicated in 1787, the Conewago Chapel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Only a few Catholic churches in the United States predate the Conewago Chapel, which is officially known as the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The chapel remains an active parish and is one of the oldest continually operating in the country. It is generally open to visitors during the week, but it is recommended that visitors call ahead at 717-637-2721. Learn more at www.sacredheartbasilica.com/history-of-sacredheart.

Hanover Fire Museum

Established in 1980, the Hanover Fire Museum houses 200 years of Hanover’s fire service history and honors those who dedicated their lives to protecting the community. The staff is made up of past volunteer or career firefighters who are very knowledgeable of the items on display. The Fire Museum is in the process of renovating the old Eagle Fire Station on Hanover St. and hopes to move the museum there soon. The museum is currently located at 241 N. Franklin St. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Did you know that Hanover is home to one of the largest pipe organs in the world? The pipe organ at St. Matthew currently ranks ninth on the list of the world’s largest organs. Dedicated in 1925, the original organ, built by Austin Organs Inc., had nearly 5,000 pipes. Over the years, the pipe organ has been enlarged. Today’s organ features 14,581 pipes and 245 ranks with an additional 22 digital stops. The organ recently underwent a five-year restoration, which was completed in October 2016. The Church offers frequent tours of the organ and pipe chambers. For more information about the organ and tours, visit www.stmattlutheran.org. discoverHANOVER 2017 23

BUSINESS

GROWING IN HANOVER For a town with a relatively small population of just over 15,000, Hanover boasts a remarkable number of nationally and internationally recognized businesses in a variety of industries. Many successful businesses have grown and continue to grow out of Hanover, Pennsylvania.

Starting their business with just a handful of employees, Chris and Kathy Keffer have taken their business from its Hanover roots to a national level in just 20 years. OX Industries, which now includes OX Paper Tube & Core, OX Paperboard and OX Engineered Products, now employs over 400 people in multiple states including Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Illinois. Although they’ve grown tremendously since their beginnings in 1996, the owners of OX Industries have always felt a deep connection to the Hanover community.

Kevin Hayward, CEO of OX Industries, grew up in Hanover. He attended Hanover High School and Penn State University before his father-in-law, Chris Keffer, had the idea to start his own small business. “I had the opportunity to be on the ground floor as part of the original group to start 20 years ago,” Hayward said. Originally, OX bought paper and converted it into finished products. About nine years after the company’s inception, it had the opportunity to buy one of its paper board suppliers. After the acquisition, OX transferred into a vertically integrated business model of making the paper, recycling and producing the final product. A vertically integrated business model means that the supply chain of a company is owned by the company itself. OX currently owns three paper mills and five other plants that convert paper from those mills into product. When asked why Hanover is so important to him, Hayward reminisced, “Growing up here was a good experience. The community is still tight-knit. It’s a great place to raise a family. It has good schools; a good manufacturing base here in the Hanover area. Number one, it is my hometown.” The company looks to continue its growth into other parts of the country over the next few years. Even with the expansion, OX’s heart will remain in the Hanover community. Keeping OX’s center of operations in Hanover is an opportunity to give back to the community and help the next generation of workers grow with the company. Legacy Athletics is a Hanover-based manufacturer with a similarly successful story. Started 25 years ago by roommates Mark Landgren and Paige Wingert, the company originally began as a quest to find the “perfect-fitting, retro-inspired cap.” What started out as a simple mission to craft the perfect hat has since expanded into a wellknown line of high-quality headwear, apparel, home décor and fashion accessories. Currently located on Fame Avenue, Legacy made all products in-house from 1996 to 2000. When apparel prices dropped and outsourcing increased, Legacy was forced to change its formula. Today, the clothing items are produced overseas while the decoration and design continues in Hanover. Legacy currently has two main product lines: collegiate and resort. The company’s products are shipped to locations throughout the United States, including over 1,000 colleges nationwide. continued on page 26

BUSINESS

continued from page 24 Despite its wide reach, Legacy Athletics is at home in Hanover, where it joins OX Industries and many similar successful businesses that have grown outside of the 17331 zip code. RLH CPAs & Business Advisors, LLC boasts yet another success story for the area. While its roots are just across the state line in Westminster, Maryland, RLH opened its Hanover location on Frederick Street in 1985, just 5 years after forming in 1980 as Rager, Lehman & Houck. “One of the founding partners had strong roots in the southern Pennsylvania business community,” explained Carli Lehr, CPA, CVA, CSEP. “After consideration of the perceived opportunities and strong business climate in Hanover, we chose to make our first expansion to this this area in 1985 with one partner and two team members.” After significant expansion, the firm moved from Frederick Street into its current location in the Eichelberger Professional Building in 1995, further doubling this space in 1999. “Today, we have three partners and 14 team members serving the Hanover area,” said Lehr. “Our history says we made a great choice!” RLH expanded yet again in 2005, opening a Frederick office. Throughout its history, the company has grown organically through obtaining new clients and also through mergers with other accounting firms, while the Hanover office has become the largest office both in terms of employees and revenue. The firm name has changed several times over the years resulting from ownership changes. In 2015, the firm of six partners rebranded the company as RLH CPAs & Business Advisors, blending the extensive Rager, Lehman & Houck history with the message of what they do. Of the decision to remain in Hanover, Lehr said, “RLH has always believed in a strong community and civic responsibility of our business. Our business can only be as strong as the community in which we serve. From leadership and support of the Chamber, to serving on boards and committees of numerous local non-profits, RLH has always supported the Hanover community.” 26 www.hanoverchamber.com

Chamber Apprenticeship Program First in Commonwealth In an effort to develop a workforce for the future and retain local talent, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce has become the first chamber in Pennsylvania to submit a Chamber Apprenticeship Model that has been approved by the PA Department of Labor and Industry. The application, a group, non-joint model for apprentices, was officially approved in February 2017. The model is nonunion, with four companies (Elsner Engineering Works, Inc., KLK Welding, R.H. Sheppard Co, Inc., and Utz Quality Foods, Inc.) under the umbrella of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber provides guidance and connectivity among local business, schools and the PA State government. In parallel, Hanover Public and South Western school districts are reviewing the ‘Right Skills Now’ curriculum as a starting point for pre-apprenticeship programs. Following the same advice from the Department of Labor & Industry, a preapprenticeship program will allow participating companies and schools to prepare for a fullapprenticeship program. Both schools have a shared goal of offering this course in fall 2017.

Through the apprenticeship program, high school students will have the opportunity to begin as a pre-apprentice in their senior year, with the program structured around their high school curriculum and work within one of the participating companies. Upon graduation, the student will have the opportunity to complete a second year as a paid employee and apprentice within the company. The apprenticeship program is part of a greater workforce development initiative by the Hanover Chamber, in collaboration with local partners in business and education. Noting the need for a talented and competitive workforce, the Chamber began implementing strategies to educate and develop the future workforce over 15 years ago. In addition to the recent addition of the apprenticeship program, the Hanover Chamber runs an annual, 18-week program, “Introduction to Manufacturing”, which is an introductory course for high school students to gain valuable exposure to manufacturing career opportunities. The mission of the program is to grant students access to and knowledge of manufacturing employment opportunities in the region.

ART IN THE HEART OF

DOWNTOWN

Tucked under a black and white façade in the heart of Downtown Hanover, the Hanover Area Arts Guild has served as an oasis to local artists for nearly 50 years. With approximately 175 active and youth members, as well as some corporate and support members, the guild is a constant hub of activity.

The Guild displays a wide range of artwork from members, which is switched out regularly. “You see a little bit of everything at the Guild. We don’t specialize in just one medium,” said Teresa Pirkey, Hanover Area Arts Guild. The artwork in the Guild is created by local artists from Adams and York counties as well as parts of Maryland. All the art on display is for sale by the artists.

For the students, it is an opportunity to see their artwork displayed in a gallery, and for the Guild, it is an opportunity to showcase talented youth in the local area. Other annual events include a “$99 and under” art sale during the summer and an Open Exhibit. The Open Exhibit features over 150 entries in various media and styles from artists throughout the region. Over $2,000 worth of prizes are given away each year at the judged competition. Occasionally, the Guild has the opportunity to host special exhibits of artwork from outside the Hanover area. In 2017, the Guild displayed the art of Nelly Toll, a hidden child during the Holocaust. Toll’s artwork was created during her time in hiding. During this time, she imagined a better world and created nearly 60 watercolor paintings. Her artwork is among some of only a few artifacts in existence created by Jewish children during the Holocaust. Toll’s work has also been displayed at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. and the Yad Vashem in Israel. In 2018, the Hanover Area Arts Guild celebrates its 50th anniversary. The guild hopes to make its anniversary a yearlong celebration.

Classes and different events are held at the Guild throughout the year. The Guild is committed to education and offers a variety of classes for members and non-members of all ages. Watercolor and oil painting, photography and calligraphy are just a few of the classes the Guild offers. A popular program called the Art Bank is offered by the Guild twice a month. The program is a way for the Guild to give back to the Hanover community. The program provides the use of the Guild’s art materials and equipment (mostly donated by members) to the public. It is free for members. A $5 donation is asked, but not required, of non-members. The Guild invites community members of all ages to work on existing projects or start new projects. Supplies are available for painting, scrapbooking, sewing and more. Annual programs are also popular at the Guild. The Student Art Show is held every March. This year marked the 36th anniversary of the show. Between nine and eleven local schools submit student artwork every year.

QUALITY OF LIFE

HANOVER HAS THE LATEST IN BREAST CANCER TECHNOLOGY 3D Mammography, Now Available at Hanover Hospital’s New Mammography Center Hanover Hospital now offers 3D mammography, the newest technology for early detection of breast cancer, as part of its new Mammography Center. The new 3D mammography, or tomosynthesis, has proven superior to the existing digital technology in diagnosing breast cancer at its earliest stages. During a 3D mammogram, the X-ray tube moves in an arc around the breast, taking multiple images from different angles. This results in a series of images which gives the radiologist a three-dimensional perspective of the breast tissue, thereby reducing the challenges associated with tissue overlap.

32 www.hanoverchamber.com

3D mammography is primarily used for routine screenings, but it can also be used to problem-solve during diagnostic evaluations, such as when patients present with a palpable lump or need to return for additional imaging after the screening mammogram. It can also be used to assist with biopsies. There are important benefits of the new 3D mammography, both for the radiologist and the patient. The radiologist benefits from an increased ability to differentiate masses from normal overlapping breast tissue, and 3D makes it easier to determine the exact location of a mass within the breast, to allow for targeted ultrasound evaluation. For the patient, the most important benefit is increased breast cancer detection, so more cancers will be found earlier and more lives will be saved. The other benefit is reduced call-back rates – fewer patients will need to return after the screening mammogram for additional testing, resulting in less anxiety for patients.
