Con’t from pg. 1 Leadership For Justine Trucksess, developing a personal leadership style has been key to her personal growth. Through her experience, with Leadership Hanover, Trucksess was challenged to recognize the qualities that she values in a good leader, and to take on those characteristics in her own leadership style. “We were empowered in our own way to become the leaders that we felt helped us in our careers and shaped us into the successful professionals we are,” said Trucksess.

Barbershop Chorus Presents Donation to Golden Visions

Arts Guild Introduces New Look, Celebrates 50 Years

The Hanover Area Arts Guild is getting a makeover. The Art Gallery, located at 32 Carlisle St, in downtown Hanover, is now Art Downtown, Fine Art & Crafts. The new logo and gallery name is part of the effort to prepare for the Arts Guild’s 50th year.

The Barbershop Harmony Society proclaimed April 11 as Harmony Day to mark its seventy-eighth year. To celebrate this day, the Hanover Standardbred Barbershop Chorus, on April 13, sang for the clients and staff at Golden Visions Adult Day Services group before presenting director, Buffy Rice, with a $1,000 check to support their programs. The funds came from receipts of the chorus’ annual show performed in Sept., and from the Singing Valentines program. After singing for Golden Visions, some members of the chorus made an impromptu visit to the heart rehab facility in Hillside Medical Center, at the suggestion of long time director, and now assistant director, Don Myers, in appreciation for the help he received in that facility following surgery on a heart valve within the past year. On the way to the rehab center, chorus members sang near the Hillside Café.

Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC Named as Leading Regional CPA Firm

Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC was named as a Regional Leader in Accounting Today’s Top 100 Firms Report for 2016. SEK&Co was recognized as one of 16 leading firms in the Capital Region based on firm revenue and growth over the last year. The Capital Region is composed of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia. Accounting Today is the premier publication of the certified public accounting industry. Their annual ranking of the largest firms and regional leaders offers a host of benchmarking data, as well as strategies and advice from the most successful firms.

The Arts Guild was formed in 1968 as an association to serve artisans in Hanover. Today, almost 200 members from Hanover, Adams County and northern Maryland belong to the Guild. Members participate in shows, sell their fine arts and crafts at the gallery, and take classes to refine their craft. “We’re still the Hanover Area Arts Guild, only the logo has changed,” the group said in a release. “‘Art Downtown’ is a nod to our presence in the heart of downtown Hanover. ‘Fine Arts and Crafts’ acknowledges the broad range of member talents that visitors find in our Gallery. The colorful graphic sweep in the new logo evokes a sense of creativity and a coming together in one place.” “Art Downtown is a great place to be,” said Kim Asper, Guild President. “There’s always a new show, something great to see. In May, the theme is Red, White, and Blue. In June, we’ll have a photography exhibit and in July, it’s a $99 and under sale. And they are open to the public, free of charge. You can see great art, free. And you can buy it and take it home.” “We love being downtown,” she continued. “We’ve seen the area getting stronger and more events bringing more people here. We want to be a part of that. The new name better reflects what we do at 32 Carlisle Street.” Asper said the new name, Art Downtown, was a chance to better reflect what the Arts Guild members do in the building, which was purchased in 1988. It also emphasizes the segment of members who specialize in fine crafts; some creating jewelry and others involved in fabric art, while still others create three dimensional art and crafts. “We’re proud of the work our members offer, and of the Gallery where the artwork and crafts are displayed. We think you will agree that our new logo is a fresh, new representation of what you can expect to see at the home of the Hanover Area Arts Guild.” Art Downtown is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. The gallery can be contacted at 717-632-2521 or at info@hanoverareaarts.com. for more information, visit http://hanoverareaarts.com.

Bailey Coach Transports Students to Four Chaplains Prayer Breakfast York Based Bailey Coach transported students free of charge from the Alexander D. Goode School to attend the Four Chaplains breakfast at the Yorktowne Hotel on May 11, 2016.

The student choir preformed for over 400 people at the annual breakfast, which recognizes Chaplin Rabbi Alexander D. Goode and 3 other Army chaplains who gave up their life preservers when their ship was hit by a German torpedo, as there were not enough life preservers on board for the troops. The four chaplains locked arms and disappeared from view as the ship sank in the black water. Bailey Coach used their US Military-themed coach to transport the students. The coach is dedicated in memory of Captain Fred. J. Bailey, father of John W. Bailey, president of Bailey Coach. Captain Bailey served his country from 1941-1953 including service in Europe during WWII.
