Sock Hop to Benefit Main Street Hanover by Natalie Neal The Hanover Sock Hop is just around the corner, and it is time to start lacing up your saddle shoes and dusting off that poodle skirt! You won’t want to miss this blast from the past. The Sock Hop is presented by Doceo Office Solutions, and proceeds from the event will benefit the programs of Main Street Hanover, an initiative bringing together diverse community interests and resources to promote the economic vitality, architectural heritage and cultural vibrancy of the downtown business district for the benefit of the greater Hanover area. The Sock Hop will take place Sat., April 9 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 22 Carlisle St., Hanover. Brush up on your hand jive and jitterbug; Rich and the Roadrunners are sure to show you a fun time as they cover hits from the 50’s! Show off your music knowledge with a game of ‘name

that tune’ and enjoy some classic food from the era. Chamber Welcomes Spring Intern

Bell Promoted to Manager

The Hanover Chamber is pleased to welcome Shannon Wissler as a Spring Intern. Wissler is in her senior year at York College of Pennsylvania and is majoring in Mass Communication. She is from Magnolia, Delaware and graduated from POLYTECH High School. Wissler hopes to assist the Chamber in planning events and writing articles for the newsletter, as well as developing and maintaining member relations. “I’m really looking forward to becoming familiar with the Hanover area and all of the opportunities it has to offer. I’m also excited about the skills I’ll develop working at the Chamber”, said Wissler. Welcome, Shannon!

Erinn Bell was recently promoted to Operations Manager. Prior to her promotion, she served as Operations Coordinator for one year. In addition to recruiting new members and focusing on workforce initiatives, Bell plans and executes all of the Chamber’s special events. She recently completed Pennsylvania Insurance Licensing, which will enable her to help meet the benefit needs of members and find benefit solutions that will work for their business. Bell is a 2014 graduate of York College of PA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing and Speech Communication. The Chamber and board of directors congratulate Bell on her welldeserved promotion.

Chamber to Honor Best and Brightest

Chamber President Gary Laird recognizes students at the 2015 Best & Brightest ceremony held at South Western.

The Hanover Chamber, in conjunction with Hanover, South Western, Spring Grove, Delone Catholic and New Oxford high schools, will recognize approximately 160 National Honor Society students at the Best & Brightest Ceremony. This year’s event will be held on Sun., May 1 at 7 p.m. at Spring Grove High School. Each student will be recognized in front of their peers, parents, and invited guests. Businesses have the opportunity to sponsor this event at $30 per student, and will be recognized in promotional materials related to the program, including press releases and the Chamber newsletter. Leadership Hanover Benefits Local Professionals by Shannon Wissler, Chamber Intern The Leadership Hanover program brings key business men and women throughout the community together in a class that is held once a month for six months. This program is designed to make future leaders more successful and provides them with the tools and opportunities they need to become skilled leaders. Kenny Watson, Vice President at M&T Bank and recent participant of the leadership program, is new to the Hanover area and says a class like this is invaluable to someone in his situation. “Leadership is about knowing the people that follow you, and being conscious of the people and places that made them who they are today. On a local level, leadership means understanding the culture that makes Hanover so special. I believe the most skilled leaders understand the importance of looking to the past to guide their decision-making process. Truly, Leadership Hanover is a great way to get plugged into your surroundings and ultimately make your surroundings a better place to live and work,” Watson explained.

“Overall the Leadership Hanover experience has been a great experience. From fine tuning our leadership Kenny Watson, M&T Bank skills, to the life-long friends and professional connections that I’ve made along the way,” said Watson.

I have a greater appreciation for the groups and organizations who help make sure things run efficiently and effectively for the community,” said Becker.

Hospital Celebrates Opening of New Cath Lab Suite Hanover Hospital celebrated the opening of the new Heart & Vascular Center, complete with two catheterization labs, with a ribbon cutting on Fri., Feb. 5, 2016.

The Hanover Hospital Heart & Vascular Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab) underwent a full renovation in 2012, with upgrades to the physical space, equipment and technology. The renovation allowed for the launch of the PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) program, led by Dr. David Gilbert and Dr. Gurpal Singh, in late summer 2014. The PCI program has received overwhelmingly positive response, as patients with blocked arteries no longer have to leave Hanover to get stents, angioplasties and other interventional procedures. The success of the PCI program has led Hanover Hospital to expand the Heart & Vascular Center to include two full cath labs. For more information, visit www. hanoverhospital.org.

HB McClure Receives Super Service Award

HB McClure Company, central Pennsylvania’s oldest and most diverse commercial and mechanical contractor, received the Angie’s List Super Service Award for the 5th consecutive year. The highly-esteemed award is given to the top 5% of qualifying businesses on Angie’s List. Angie’s List is an online database that consumers can visit to get information and ratings/reviews on businesses in several categories from home improvement to health services. Winners of the Super Service Award must pass background checks and maintain a superior standing in Angie’s List. HB McClure was named a 2015 award-winner in both the Heating & AC and Plumbing categories. “Receiving this award for the 5th consecutive year truly speaks to our commitment to excellent customer service,” said Robert Whalen, President of HB McClure. “Understanding our customers and delivering quality trust, and value is what keeps them coming back to HB McClure. We are proud of our team for their hard work and effort.”

OCKER HIRES HAYHURST The team at Ocker & Associates, PC, located in Fayetteville and McSherrystown, has recently welcomed a new administrative assistant, Julianne Hayhurst, of Shippensburg, to their firm. Hayhurst is a 2011 graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in English. UNION COMMUNITY BANK ANNOUNCES NEW HIRES Fred Baber has joined Union Community Bank as Senior Mortgage Originator. Baber has over 21 years of experience in Residential Mortgages, most recently as a Senior Mortgage Development Officer for Santander Bank NA. In his new position he will be responsible for mortgage development in the Hanover and Adams County markets.

Baber lives in the Hanover area and is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Finance. He is active in the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, Hanover Lions Club and current director on the Pennsylvania Junior Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation. Jennifer Augustyniak has joined Union Community Bank as Senior Mortgage Originator. She has over 12 years of experience in Residential Mortgages, most recently as a Senior Mortgage Development Officer for Santander Bank NA. In her new position Augustyniak will be responsible for mortgage sales in the York and Lancaster markets. Her office is located at 1770 East Market Street, York. Augustyniak lives in York and attended Pennsylvania State University.. She is a member of Realtors Association of York and Adams Counties, and served as chairperson for the 2013 Parade of Homes.

Stone to Executive Vice President as of Jan.1, 2016. Reporting to James P. Helt, ACNB Bank President, these three officers are based at the Bank’s Operations Center in Gettysburg. Executive Vice President Laurie A. Laub joined ACNB Bank in 2005 as Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer. In her new role, she serves as ACNB Bank’s Chief Credit and Operations Officer, overseeing credit administration, loan and deposit operations, information systems, and special assets. She has more than 14 years of banking experience in management and credit administration, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Accountancy from The Pennsylvania State University. Laub is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and serves on the board of directors of Pennsylvania Interfaith Community Programs, Inc. Executive Vice President Douglas A. Seibel joined ACNB Bank in 2008 as Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending. In his new role, he serves as ACNB Bank’s Chief Lending and Revenue Officer, overseeing all lending teams, treasury management, and sales development. He has more than 33 years of banking experience with 30 years in commercial lending. Seibel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Gettysburg College and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association School of Commercial Lending. Over the years, he has completed numerous American Institute of Banking, Risk Management Association, and Pennsylvania Bankers Association courses.

Executive Vice President Thomas R. Stone joined ACNB Bank in 2009 as Senior Vice President of Retail Banking. In his new role, he serves as ACNB Bank’s Chief Community Banking Officer, overseeing retail banking, human resources, marketing/ branding, and facilities management. He has more than 34 years of experience managing a variety of banking functions with primary expertise in retail banking, instore banking, and operations. Stone earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Millersville State University and Master of Business Administration from The Pennsylvania State University. HEATHCOTE COMPLETES CRUISE COURSE Lori Heathcote, Group Manager at Travel Time Travel York PA office (formerly Bailey Travel), won a 7 night cruise for 2 on the Danube from Viking River Line Cruises. Heathcote completed 7 different Viking River Cruise destination specialty courses over a 6 month period and had the highest score. Over 250 travel agents from the USA and Canada participated, and Heathcote won the cruise as the grand prize for the highest score in all testing. She plans to take her cruise this summer. SCHMUCK LUMBER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT, NEW HIRE Schmuck Lumber Company would like to announce the retirement of Garry “Wally” Watson. Watson joined Schmuck Lumber Company in 1972 as a member of the roofing crew. Over his 43 years with the company, he worked

as the Yard Foreman, Outside Salesman, and finally settling into his role as the Manager of the Installed Sales Division. In 1995, Watson became a partner of the ownership team and the Board of Directors until his retirement on December 31, 2015. Schmuck Lumber Company would like to wish Wally the best of luck in retirement. Mike Ormond joined Schmuck Lumber Company as an Outside Salesman in the Installed Sales Division in October 2015. Ormond is a graduate of Monmouth University in New Jersey where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. WISOTZKEY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF BUILDERS ASSOCIATION Daniel Wisotzkey of Yorktowne Roofing & Siding was elected to serve as the York Builders Association (YBA) president for 2016, and will lead a 20-member board during his yearlong term as President.

Dress to the Nines for Derby Day and Wine Pull out your best hat and dress to the nines on May 7, 2016, 12 to 5 p.m. for Derby Day at Adams County Winery! The event will raise awareness and donations for the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program benefiting injured and retired racehorses. Ron Krajewski, owner of retired painting racehorse sensation Metro Meteor, will be the co-host for this equestrian themed event. This event will be held at Adams County Farm Winery location in Orrtanna, PA. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy live music on the ‘Infield,’ Stick Pony Races on the ‘Track’ and Mint Julip Wine Cocktails in the ‘Outfield’. There will also be several Derby Day contests. The categories will include: a best dressed contest, best gentleman’s hat, best lady’s hat, funniest hat, and best handmade Derby Day hat. A silent auction, games of croquet and specialty derby appetizers will be available for purchase.

The event is free to the general public (seating is not guaranteed) but ticketed reserve seating is available. Reserved seating in the “Grandstand” pavilion is $10.00 per person; the outdoor infield is $5.00 per person. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program. Adams County Winery has been helping to raise funds for the organization since 2014.

Veteran Vault Creates Successful Hire for Utz

by Natalie Neal In May 2015, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce unveiled The Veteran Job Vault program to assist veterans across the greater Hanover region in finding a job within the manufacturing industry. Many manufacturing companies within the area have shown interest in the Vet Vault program. These companies are hoping to hire veterans within the community through this program. Kevin Gulden, a 21year Air Force Veteran and Plant Manager at Utz Quality Foods spoke about the program’s success and his new hire from the Vet Vault applicant list. “The Veteran’s Vault was a great success for Utz Quality Foods, Inc. for our first time using it. We were able to find an awesome candidate for a hard to fill position. Main Street Hanover is again organizing this year’s Downtown Beautification Program. Spring is almost here and we are looking forward to beautifying Hanover’s downtown with professional planters and hanging baskets. 2nd Saturdays

We enter into the third year of having 2nd Saturday events and hope that you will consider joining us downtown to celebrate! The 2nd Saturday idea came about as a way to attract people to the downtown to enjoy the unique events, shopping, food & drink downtown has to offer. The idea of having businesses offer promotions and hold events during the 2nd Saturday of every month was an incentive for people to discover Hanover’s unique downtown. We encourage all of the shops to offer great deals and unique offerings all on the same day, hoping people could be attracted to come downtown and spend the whole day shopping, eating and drinking. This year we are adding some additional events and open houses to our 2nd Saturday offerings. We truly think there is something for everyone in downtown Hanover. Discover downtown and come out shopping with us this 2nd Saturday! March 12 is 2nd Saturday and we’re Hatching Spring! Hoping to see some new baby eaglets, stores will be welcoming spring with sales and special promotions!

PATABS Performance to Benefit MSH We are very excited to share that we are pairing up with Pennsylvania Theatrical Arts by Brittany Stevens as their nonprofit partner for their upcoming shows, Alice in Wonderland Jr. and Into the Woods. As the performance’s partner, Main Street Hanover will receive a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales from all the shows, as well as assist in putting on a special ‘Tea with Alice’ event.

These two shows will be performed at the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center, in their beautiful theater. We are excited to support these performances and the local performing arts center. We hope you will consider attend these shows and not only supporting local theater and children in the arts, but support Main Street Hanover as well!
