Mission: We deliver value to our members and advance the interests of the business community.

A Letter from the Chair of the Board: Looking Forward to 2018 As 2017 draws to a close, I am excited to take a look at what the Chamber has planned for 2018. The Chamber accomplished a lot in 2017 including expanding economic development through the Main Street Hanover program, becoming the first chamber in Pennsylvania to have its apprenticeship program approved by the PA Department of Labor and Industry and graduating 13 local business professionals (including myself) through the Leadership Hanover program. The Chamber additionally grew its membership and hosted successful events such as the Corporate Challenge, Annual Golf Outing, Hanover Dutch Festival and our newest event, the Snack Town Brewfest.

a great way to showcase all our local businesses have to offer to local students as they think about post-graduation employment opportunities.

In 2018, the Chamber will continue its focus on economic development, workforce, leadership and membership. In terms of economic development, the focus will remain on the community and the Main Street Hanover (MSH) program, which will enter into its sixth year in 2018. The Main Street program is vital to the revitalization and continued economic growth of downtown Hanover. The Chamber is proud of its continued economic collaborations with MSH and the Hanover Borough and looks forward to continuing these efforts in the new year.

As always, membership will be a top priority for the Chamber staff and board. The Chamber continually evaluates its programs to provide members with opportunities to grow their businesses. Through workshops, mixers, breakfasts, marketing, advocacy, health benefits and much more, the Chamber can provide a wide range of opportunities to showcase and strengthen member businesses.

Workforce development will also be a key focus in the new year as the Chamber continues to fulfill the needs of local employers. In Feb. 2017, the Hanover Chamber (with Elsner Engineering Works, Inc., KLK Welding, R.H. Sheppard Co., and Utz Quality Foods, LLC.) became the first chamber in the state to submit a Chamber Apprenticeship Model and have it approved by the PA Department of Labor and Industry. In 2018, the Chamber and its partners will continue to expand the capacity of the Apprenticeship Program and model. The manufacturing sector is a vital part of our community and the Apprenticeship Program is

The Leadership Hanover program will also continue to grow in the new year. The 2017-2018 Leadership Hanover class is the largest yet. The Chamber will enhance Leadership Hanover’s role in the community through hands-on experience with local businesses and organizations. In addition to Leadership Hanover, the Chamber will continue to support the growth of the Hanover Area Young Professionals (HAYP), an organization that strives to meet the needs of the younger generation in the business world.

The Chamber would not be able to do all that it does without its signature events: Corporate Challenge, the Annual Golf Outing, the Hanover Dutch Festival and the Snack Town Brewfest. Looking forward, the Chamber staff and I are especially excited about the Second Annual Snack Town Brewfest which will feature more breweries, more tickets and more fun. Thank you for continued support of the Chamber and its programs. I look forward to serving as the Chair of the Board throughout 2018! Sincerely, Kevin Gulden Chair of the Board

Sam's Club Opens in Gateway Hanover Shopping Center

ACNB Bank Shares Community Shred Success

Sam's Club team including store and department managers at their ribbon cutting on Sept. 14 at the Gateway Hanover Shopping Center

(From left to right) ACNB Bank staff members Morgan Stevenson, Nate Fuhrman, Tiffany Faust, Tommy Duck, and Tiffany Lebo, and United Way of Adams County Executive Director Vickie Corbett.

The newest Sam’s Club in Pennsylvania opened its doors on Sept. 14, at 261 Wilson Ave. in Hanover. The Hanover club is one of the first locations in the northeast to offer the fresh new look and feel of Sam’s Club. New features include a fresh island that offers organic and grass-fed beef, an expanded seafood section, and fresh sushi made daily. The focus on fresh carries throughout the dairy and produce departments with large walk-in coolers designed to keep products as fresh as possible. An additional feature members will experience is the café with self-order kiosks, expanded seating with charging stations and an updated menu that includes premium coffee, made-to-order sandwiches, and smoothies. Members can also continue to count on Sam’s Club for their health and wellness needs. The new club will provide pharmacy services as well as a hearing center and optical department.

ACNB Bank held its 11th Annual Community Shred on Saturday, September 16. A project associated with United Way of Adams County’s Day of Caring, Community Shred gives people the chance to get rid of old confidential documents safely. ACNB Bank partnered with the shredding and recycling firm, All-Shred Inc., and welcomed 184 local residents to the event at its Operations Center in Gettysburg. More than 12,900 pounds of documents were shredded at the event this year - which is the most the Bank has ever collected through this community effort. Those who came to Community Shred donated $2 per box to United Way of Adams County. As a result, a total of $1,261 was raised and provided to United Way. Participants also brought 270 pounds of nonperishable food to support the upcoming 11th Annual Bag the Bounty food drive that is coordinated by United Way and held throughout the month of October. ACNB Bank offices with lobbies in Adams County and Hanover will serve as collection sites for Bag the Bounty again this year. To learn more about United Way of Adams County or to make a donation, visit www.uwadams.org.

Sam’s Club also awarded $25,000 in grants to several local nonprofit organizations as part of its ongoing commitment to the Hanover community. For more information about Sam's Club membership, visit www. samsclub.com.

United Way: Building Bridges for York County

Fulton Bank’s York team kicks off their campaign with a special breakfast.

The United Way of York County is in full swing working with companies across the community to raise much needed funds through the 2017 campaign, York's largest annual fundraising event. Did you know that United Way’s annual campaign impacts the lives of 1 in 3 people in York County? Thousands of children and adults rely on the funding from this campaign to support programs that help to provide shelter during times of crisis, to ensure every child has access to a quality education, and that every person receives the care they need to live a healthy life. What can you do to help make this campaign a success for the community? 1. Be a United Way Champion! Help spread the word about the importance of the campaign at your company or organization and encourage everyone to participate. If you can -- make the campaign a fun, team-building experience by incorporating special events and challenges for staff. 2. Give generously. Look at your budget and decide how much you can invest into building a strong community. If possible, increase your pledge from previous years and work towards joining one of the giving societies: Leadership Giving, Women United, and the Emerging Leaders Society. The 2017 campaign runs through December 8th in order to be entered into our prize giveaway. This year’s grand prize is a Harley-Davidson© Street Rod™ motorcycle. A complete prize list is available at www.unitedway-york.org/prize-giveaway. United Way of York County’s promise is to build bridges between people in need and the programs that can help. Please lend your hand along with those of your coworkers and neighbors to help United Way build a strong bridge for the community. Together we can make it happen.

Ring in the Holidays with Christmas on Main Street

“Strings of street lights, even stop lights, blink a bright red and green, as the shoppers rush home with their treasures...” The familiar old Bing Crosby tune will come alive in Hanover again this year, as Main Street Hanover prepares for the holiday season. Gather your family and mark the calendar for the exciting annual events in downtown Hanover. New this year, Tree Lighting Ceremony on Small Business Saturday and a Cookie Stroll! Visit our website for more details!

Dressed in Holiday Style

Several local service organizations will collaborate again this year in the annual ‘hanging of the greens’. Keep your eyes open during November as the familiar decorations appear on lamp posts throughout downtown and Eisenhower Drive. Downtown, the Hanover Exchange Club, Hanover Rotary, Kiwanis Club, and Lions Club will deck the four quadrants in Center Square with holiday cheer. Thanks to these clubs for serving on the Hanover Christmas Committee and decorating downtown year after year.

This is Santa’s Big Scene

The festivities officially kick off on Fri., Nov. 24 with the annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony. Santa will make his arrival to Hanover during the 9 a.m. parade, and set up shop in his cabin on the square for the remainder of the holiday season to greet families and children as he has traditionally done for generations. The Christmas Committee is looking for participants for the parade; scout troops, dance studios, church and civic organizations, service clubs and businesses are invited to take part. Children grades K-6 are invited to enter the bike decorating contest. For information and to enter, contact Janet Black at 6371768 or visit www.hanoverpasantacabin.com After the parade, explore downtown retailers and restaurants before returning at 6 p.m. for the tree lighting ceremony, featuring live musical entertainment. All activities are free and open to the public.

SANTA ARRIVES!

Supported by the Hanover Christmas Committee, the Borough of Hanover is preparing to have Santa’s Cabin ready to celebrate its 80th Anniversary! Come out and see the original Santa’s Cabin one more time before it is replaced with a new log cabin next year.
